Currently reading Ao Ashi for the first time. 100+ chapters in with no hint of stopping the binge and I can officially say that this is in my personal top 3 favorites in sports manga, alongside Eyeshield 21 and Baby Steps. i mentioned doki in my last post and yeah i kinda dont talk about it as much as the other seasons ive completed huh.

despite my incoming hater rant i uh. dont hate it? but i like every other season ive seen better and that includes tropical rouge, which despite being my first season i do find mid now. though thats really not enough credit to doki, its highs are higher, but its lows are waaaaay lower.

(ramble incoming, not important, just my own scuffed opinion, but its under the cut. also spoilers.)

first off, elephant-shaped ira in the room, yes im a self identified card carrying cure ace hater. i can own that, im fine with it, star twinkle madoka is best madoka, but also i feel like that doesnt give the nuace of how i feel enough credit. its sorta like, yes the fake-out was lame, but a fake out like that is supposed to make more sense in hindsight, when you see the rest of the story and know why it happened, but we REALLY didnt get that. was literally a deus ex machina to save the cures from getting washed by fucked up and evil and purple regina, then proceeds to become an even bigger problem than regina by finessing manas lovies while shes sad about losing her blonde villain gf.

i then made jokes about how aguri is homophobic for the rest of the show

proceeds to be a colossal dickhead for the next 10 episodes, then its revealed she cant back it up cus of the whole time limit thing that they discard at the end, and then just. says sowwy and fades into the bg until endgame arc starts. like we see that she was watching the cures beforehand, but then NEVER stepped in until the regina thing, which. why? she didnt know she and regina were split off from ange until way later, what compelled her? that the cures were gonna lose? howd that not get her moving the several times thatd already happened? theres no reasoning behind it, she shows up, acts like a dickhead, and turns endgame into the aguri show and turns makotos whole arc into an afterthought. most we get out of her after that was the brush your teeth episode. imo actively made the show worse off.

not the only one though cus okada joe, fresh from getting his wife killed and losing his homeworld, gets sent to the main world, immediately starts hitting on middle schoolers. its been said that they were gonna go full coco on this dude but one higherup said "ya nah", but its hard to tell if that happened before or after the show started airing, cus it only fully stops once we see him in the armour suit, going "i miss my wife tails makoto. i miss her a lot" when he was trying to rizz her up like 20 episodes ago. bigger danger to children than king selfish at that rate. only good thing about aguri imo is that okada joe vanishes for like 12 episodes since him meeting aguri would advance the plot.

alice is also kinda lame. nothing else for me to say except half of the alice episodes felt like sebastian the butler episodes, except those were actually fun cus he has a personality thats more than a gentrified toothpick

but also the shows highs are REALLY GOOD. rikka is awesome. the first villain trio is excellent. every scene with regina in it is peak, especially the midseason arc (before aguri anyway). they made a line sticker of that one scene where regina and mana sleep in the same bed and thats the most adorable shit ive ever seen. that one pre-endgame episode with regina and rikka gave kira a run for its money with the funny homo factor. speaking of rikka, the first straight ship (not you raquel) ive seen the series push that isnt either basic as fuck or vomit inducing.

also mana is okay you guys are just mean. when yr in the same show as aguri the mary sue allegations kinda just explode into a cloud of steam

but thats not enough for doki to beat the mid allegations imo. which is a huge shame, this show has so much going for it, but it consistently put a focal point on the things that make it worse! and also why i havent posted about it until literally today, it isnt genuinely great like heartcatch or st, it doesnt have dedicated brain worms inside my frontal lobe like mahopre or kira, and it isnt a show thats overall good but then fumbled its main twist in the most personally aggravating to me way possible like tropical rouge.

oh yeah while im here ive also watched go princess, but that shows issues are more in that anything that isnt towa is kinda just fucking boring, (which is also a shame cus towas the best precure character period bar none) but thats a post for another time

honestly yeah I kinda have a similar opinion, I'm upset at Kenny going along with Cartman against Butters too, but I like to headcanon that Kenny felt bad about it and made amends with Butters. I do see Cartman as being the one to influence Kenny's more negative characteristics/morals while people like Butters and Karen bring out Kenny's true empathetic nature.

And yeah as for Kenny being hardworking, yeah I definitely feel like it would be a missed opportunity if they didn't have him get a job at the ice cream place with Butters, it would be a perfect way to both develop Kenny and Butters' friendship more while also helping Kenny make money for his family, it would be a nice change for the McCormicks and an interesting status quo change even if it reverted at some point. And it wouldn't make any sense for Kenny to not pursue that opportunity.

I can also see Kenny having cracks in his usual perseverance and maybe just wanting to take it easy sometimes, if anyone deserves to take advantage of Cartman's lazy work schedule it's Kenny lol, but yeah ultimately Kenny has a very good work ethic like Butters so I see it as Kenny getting swept up in Cartman's schemes and having a taste of riches, losing sight of doing things the right way and how he's affecting Butters, but yeah it would've been nice to see them make amends instead of kinda fading Kenny into the bg at the end; it would've been perfect for Kenny and Butters' resolution of the episode for Kenny to reflect on how he's lost his way and treated Butters unfairly, Butters being like "aw gee its alright Ken, I know you just wanted to not be poor for once" and then Butters offers Kenny to work at the ice cream place with him and Kenny accepts, then they work together, but at least we can headcanon and make AUs about it =^.^= i do hope they develop and utilize Kenny and Butters' potential as a duo more often though, there's literally so much untapped potential between them (especially as Mysterion and Professor Chaos)

I'm sorry but I hate the dikinbaus episode. I just can't understand how Kenny could possibly be so mean to Butters when he should be one of the kids that should understand him a bit more (and that's saying the least after Going Native and the fact that he in SOT preserved the clothing he had from there??? It was indeed important for him and Butters) and the fact that HE from all people was a lazy ass worker? He's hardworking! it's like Trey and Matt forgot they made an episode where Kenny worked at City Wok underpaid bc Lu Kim was broke and all of that effort in order to buy Karen a doll, and the point of him working was to prove to his parents that he won't be like them and make poor excuses like the economy, the society or that is just their reality as poor people. Kenny is the example of someone who will defy his own reality, he WON'T stay poor and he in fact becomes a MILLIONAIRE in PC in BOTH FUTURES, and what do you need to achieve that? HARD WORK

Yes in this part they're using Kenny's poor situation to convince Butters to invest in them and knowing how Cartman is, he told Kenny the plan beforehand (explaining why he says tf at the end because being so harsh about him was not in the plan and it was just Cartman bring Cartman) and that's why he's just there staring at Butters in a mindset of "please I'm just poor you gotta give me a hand" and EVEN if he doesn't actually believe this, it just shows how he will use his situation to his advantage?? Which is not very Kenny like to begin with. I genuinely believe that he wouldn't want anyone to be in his situation with how much he's mocked for it so it doesn't make sense that he will just use it like that. This could lead to an analysis about Kenny's morals tbh but also what puts me off about this is that he won't only use his situation to his advantage but ALSO use it to damage Butters because of course they weren't gen thinking they'd make a business or wtw, they were ACTIVELY screwing over him and that just pisses me off bc this is the first time he ever does this (outside if Princess Kenny). Kenny is known to be loyal to his friends and yeah he and Butters might not be friends you can say but he's not Cartman, he wouldn't just screw over people for his own benefit...

This part also puts me off and you could wonder why. After Cartman says this Kenny just looks around like saying "mmm ur right huh I didn't think about it dude" instead of a more reasonable answer like "of course im sick do you think I like this??" Or could be him masking but I just think this is the creators mistake lol

Kenny never got punished in the episode like Cartman "does" but this definitely cracks the friendship he could possibly have with Butters because unlike everyone, Kenny has never done active harm to him until NOW. And he wasn't just following along like always, he was Cartman's right hand man on this, that's simply different. It's like they forgot they made Going Native smh

Tldr: Kenny should've emphasized with Butters in this one, not taken Cartman's size just because it's "fun". Maybe the creators wanted to reward him because it was his birthday (the release date) but this was not the way imo

Dream from: February 15, 2015

God dang dreams. The heck... why do you do this to me? okay so here is my dream. It's 8:16 am in the morning, Monday, no school. I just woke up. The whole time, this dream felt like a strange real life, Sorry about handwriting, tired. ok here we go because I'm already starting to forget what happened. So basically, I got out/appeared in some random field thing with mountains in the near distance, and there was a small-ish school. It looked like a thrift shop on outside. kind of and it was red. ok so then I went inside/it cutscened to me being inside. And I don't remember what happened then, as this was or must've taken place early on in my slumber... But.. oh yeah apparently I was a boy basically like Malcolm from malcolm in the middle and I was getting... no wait I got framed or something... I was reported by someone that I was in the back of a limo drinking beer or something and throughout this part of the dream it's just me trying to prove I'm innocent. Later on, now me in more real life form - so apparently there's going to be an indoor school carnival or fair thing tomorrow which is irrelevant as I ended up not going but I remember it for some reason... then this is kinda out of order and skipping around but ok: So we (random school people) were in a room (gymnasium?) and there's a huge window in front of where we're standing being lectured or something and then Santa flies past the window and I shout "Santa" loudly. I feel embarassed but I remember my "thing to live by #2 + #1" and soon Santa flies closer to the window and everyone shouts "santa!" so yeah wtf. There was also something about stars at night but I forgot (oh btw 2 nights ago I stargazed again, finally. pretty cloudy. I got a few tears but not much) so later... dang I remember a lot of things but they're too obscure to really remember and soon fade from my mind shoot! Remember - not quite in order!

ok so I guess I decided to go swimming wtf in a locker room pool & it was a small pool like 50 ft deep and oh yeah back up - first I was "spawned" in the next scene already deep underwater in a different pool as I struggled to get up. I think I was in the form of a jellyfish. weird & too blurry from my memory... I remember chucking a jellyfish back down once I reached the surface though. wat. Anyway, so I was at the edge of a pool oh yeah and naked for some reason (maybe it was supposed to be a bath, idk) and I just stood there throwing this pink blob (toy or creature? idk) thing which was squishy into the water, watching it sink and then resurface, springing out of the water, repeat. Few more times then on last time I didn't throw it down hard enough so it resurfaced slowly and didn't pop up so I couldn't reach it and left. Then walking out of the door (oh yea the pools were all in a row like rr stalls.) I didn't have clothes so I used my hands as best as possible. Idk where my clothes went wtf. So I was struggling. There was a person to my left and door leaving the room was open with people walking by in the hallway. A guy comes out too, same thing happened to him, so we're panicing, everywhere we look a person so we run, covering up, Trying to hide or something idk but we're just running down the way, then down to an arcade, I guess it is? Idk bg details. well we pass by Kerstin rae Kelly and she's like "cosette!" as I use the boy's body to cover myself up lol it was freaking weird and felt real... I really didn't want to go onto detail here let me just say I used him to cover up my backside well anyway then we hide underneath a blanket on the ground. There was a "game" under the blanket with animal pic on it and a number next to the animal... So the boy was like pick an animal to represent yourself" I picked a monkey and said because I'm ugly. He said lower numbers = cuter animals and the gibbon monkey thing had a 40. so I picked a lion which was a 300. wtf? So later I was just like "Whatever I can't take it anymore!" and left the hiding spot running super fast out a back door around the school house. I couldn't find my way back to the entry because of the growth everywhere and it looked the same everywhere you turn. ok.

Then cutscene. idk the rest oh yeah, and the boy then chased me (or I think so (I never saw him only heard him) so idk) up the stairs, now apparently a pag and shouted something at me, a pig pun using the word "hog" so wtf ok. Later on... more reality here, and this felt super real. The time of day jumps around a bit but this is the stuff I remember most... but forgetting as we speak so I have to hurry up!!! Now all these characters are from real life but entire school is way different. So... This involves Ms. Kral. I don't remember very beginning of this segment, but I was already in a sad mood because next year, Ms. Kral wasn't going to be my teacher. So hours later I was supposed to go to history class I guess, but apparently Ms. Kral was supposed to be teaching it and I opened the door, late, and take a nearby seat and there's a man in there yelling at Ms. Kral about not doing a good job with her students, some of which were Dominic, Peyton... etc. So he's saying stuff like "This place is worse than a prison cell" "You have our students in a prison!" "What Is wrong with you?" etc. Something about firing her n stuff. Mrs. Gordon is bending town taking to a student & glaring angrily at Mrs. Kral. Ms. Kral has little tears in her eyes. I could tell cause I was seated to the left of where she was standing. So the man (who looked like, or was, this sped teacher who works across the hall from her in real life) and he was just saying a ton of things, really well worded, and it was a yelling volume but the way he said them was under control.

then Ms. Kral just made a straight face and waited for him to finish then angrily tried to defend herself which came out all clumsy and she stumbled over her words and took a step towards him (nothing like real Mrs. Kral, who always has great and well-worded responces and comebacks) So guy got angry and quickened her "removal from students going into 10th grade" for 2 days. Weird punishment but: Dream logic. So later... I don't remember ok quickly back up: When the guy is insulting Kral he insults her brother, whose last name is "line", I think, and that's what caused the little tears. She quietly whispered his name, in a prayer-like manner because he's dead. she had his name written on the inside of her book bag she carries around. "line" wtf. Anyway so later on we're crying, back in her classroom. Or maybe that came later. first I think there was this guy who gave me a poster with Drago from Bakugan on it & I said "wow thanks!" Then wade from real life walks by And the guy gives this sphere thing to wade who was gone so the guy asks me to deliver it to him and I eventually give it to him. I make it to Ms. Kral's room and she's giving wade this space suit made of bones or something so he can float around easier wtf because he has trouble walking, which oddly enough is a recurring object from another dream.

Later... Memory dwindling shoot. Well during lunch I'm somewhere crying and somehow the time goes to 8:00 and I go to Ms Kral's room which looks like a living room and Brian is on the couch and I feel so sad that tomorrow she won't be my teacher (apparently she was my teacher 7 hours a schoolday, unlike real life) and I was so upset, I acted as if she was dying or something and I treated her like she was my own mother. It was just way different in the dream... memory fading... (it's 9:26 morning) well this goes on for a long time, this sorrow & pain feeling, and in real life I slightly come out of the dream and tears are on my eyes, I feel a tear form... back in the dream mode: There is way more to the Ms. Kral scenes than this btw, I just don't remember. So she's trying to comfort her student, telling them (including me) the'll be alright. I'm sobbing. She was the best, kindest, most interesting teacher in the school. We were only being relocated across the hall but it seemed like a big deal. So next morning, early, some ppl and I go into the new room and stuff and apparently there's 1 more day until it officially starts. so I sit down sad. my head just loses senses... idk.. Teacher at chalk board, I don't like him. Btw past night Brian and I just ended up sleeping the night on that couch w/ ms. kral and next morning when we woke, she was crying a lot and there were smashed ceramics and stuff on the floor... she was upset. So anyway, then later ms. kral was at the table with me/us and we were just talking about stuff. she was trying to reassure us it'd be okay. She stayed there for a long time.

Later this girl sitting behind me was looking at a calender or multiplication table and said "I have been counting numbers for hours" or "I can count for hours" and Ms. Kral and dominic were just like... They just accepted the challenge of counting nonstop. Next morning I came back (even tho it was the same day) & Ms. Kral was still siting there counting. I was like "have you been counting all night?" wtf. So later she's helping a student with HW and a book is open and she says "That's the tyrannosaurus constellation" and it's a picture of a carnotaurus. wtf.... then later she must leave back to her own class room  & crying ensued (Dik where the heck the other teacher went. And when she leaves I'm just like on the floor crying on the corner, lifeless, just lying.... Teacher comes back a kid took my spot so I had to sit in front of this big mirror in the room. I was wearing my black jacket. I cross my arms put my head down and sob.... There was way more to the scene than this... but like I said forgetting by the seconds! ugh. Like we had these weird hall pass things or something or he put a lock on our electronics when we asked to go to the BR so we couldn't use them- oh wait that happened the next day. Lots of other things happened when Kral was in the classroom, but all I can really remember was the crying. so next day I'm late and I thought tone was gonna sound any min. so I like slid into the classroom, running in weightless leaps down the hall, I smash the door open, crashing into it, I jump into a chair which apparently is on wheels so I end up slowly spinning around on the chair and moving... It keeps going... I just freeze. I get a look around the classroom while spinning in same position. Everyone is just silent, the teacher has stopped lecturing.

You'd think it'd stop spinning by now. wtf so I end up getting off it and sulk awkwardly to the chair in the farthest back. all eyes on me. The room is packed for some reason, like 40+ students. Haley's there and sitting in the front. The teacher says "That's not your spot" I move over more to a seat with 2 shoes on it (wtf) He says it's taken so I move a spot to the left which only has 1 show on it and sit. My vision is blurry and I don't care about anything. I feel so sad I miss miss kral... And then I wake up. Real life. My cheeks are wet and my eyes are all teary. I remembered reality... dumb old classroom, I only see Kral 1.5 hours a day, but reality... at the end of this year, Kral will never be my teacher again realisation of that fact kicks in and more tears emerge. And here I am. Sorry that dragged on fro so long. It was way different in the actual dream and more dramatic/emotional. It must've been, because I got real life tears!!! I should just start a dream journal I've been having insane dreams lately and have my whole life. I should at least draw the locations & scenes out, sketch then as best as possible. Yes that is what I'll do. okay. the sketching part at least. ok it is 10:00 my wrist hurts!!!

zombie-human relations/relationships were banned until the summer before the events of z1, therefore they met illegally. when they were eventually caught, y/n was already 3yo, and their mom was imprisoned + died, and their dad ran away. y/n was taken in by eliza's family and hidden as no one outside of their parent's friends knew about them.

instead of fully green hair, there's just some obscure streaks, moreso towards the front of their head.

y/n can only partially "zombie out," but only when their z-band is removed and they aren't in control of their emotions

additionally, y/n has visible (although fairly faint) eyebags and y/n's skintone stays normal -- although they turn extra pale when their blood pressure is low (dehydrated, losing blood, lacking nutrients, etc)

§} eliza's dad, zed's mom, and y/n's mom, among multiple other zombies, died to an illness that spread throughout z-town. because of humans neglecting zombies and restricting their access to medical treatment, the zombies were extremely vulnerable -- especially when imprisoned, like how y/n's mom was

he's proud to be a zombie. i never liked how he kept trying to change himself to be likeable and more human, so when i write his character, he'll be more like eliza in the fact that he's fighting for humans to accept zombies for who they are, not for zombies to be more like humans.

wyatt tells them that he's just moved to seabrook and is going to shs, even though he really wasn't he decided on convincing willa to let him go undercover there later

the prophecy never specified that they would be a werewolf - only that whoever it was dressed like one in the prophecy's image, specifically

wyatt knows about the prophecy n everything, so he tries to get closer to y/n. when it's apparent y/n has no idea what/where the moonstone is or could be, he convinces willa to just go to the town as students and do their own research (like in the movie)

i changed it from addison to y/n for "y/n needs to be interesting" purposes and also because addison's character is so bad in the fact they made her the most stereotypical main character ever. she feels like an "i throw my hair into a messy bun and look at my blue orbs" fanfic sterotype main character sometimes im SORRY I HATE IT

i don't like how she (specifically with the wolves) (almost) only cared more about them because she thought they were cool and because she could've been a werewolf. i think it should be a bit deeper than that, and that she should actively fight for integration (for both zombies and wolves) so she will be doing so when i write her :)

Spoiler-FULL Reactions to RWBY Arrowfell~

The thrilling sequel to this post. Most of my emotional investment has already faded by now (as is usually the case with RWBY media...) but, since I said I was gonna do this and I already made notes, why not?

Environments and NPCS -Not much to see in this game...the environments look cute in isolation, but as a gameplay element they’re just too simple (and repetitive...) to be immersive. Especially in Mantle and Atlas-- random stacks of ‘techno-blocks’ are not a real setting and they don’t feel like one. :/

-I just wish it could’ve had a stronger atmosphere...the main show already tends to ruin the little atmosphere it does create with baffling character placement and lackluster/absent color grading (seriously, the BG artists deserve better). And unfortunately it seems like the game just...copied that...

-The new NPCs were cute. A little silly, but cute; much more interesting and better for worldbuilding than the background characters in the show.  And of course the NPCs based on existing characters (Penny, Qrow, Pietro) were nice too. Even the Ace-Ops were kinda fun (Vine Zeki gained a personality trait! o_O)

-I liked how the quests tended to interweave together, like you’d complete one quest and get an item required to complete another quest as a reward-- which incentivizes you to talk to more people if you’re having trouble finding something on your own. It’s smart gameplay design like that that made me rate the game a C+; despite its simplicity you can tell it was made by professionals.

Enemies and Boss Fights -Yeah, the clone-enemies in the Atlas/Mantle portions are pretty embarrassing, but I think the selection of Grimm was nice. They all had different strengths and weaknesses and attack patterns for you to learn to deal with; you certainly can’t say they were lazily implemented. Even the clone-enemies at least invited unique strategies...I know for a fact that redheaded “BANG BANG BANG~” girl was specifically designed to be a rage-quit obstacle, and I love that for her. ^^

-The boss fights were pretty good too; nice selection of attack patterns and usage of space (especially for BRIR). Bram Thornmane wasn’t much of a final boss, all things considered, but at least he had something creative going on with the arrow patterns; there’s a little element of challenge there. Nothing super fun for any sort of mature gamer (even a casual one like myself), but I can see that being engaging for, like, a 5th grader. ^^; I guess.

-BTW: a lot of people in the comments of the release trailer remarked that the combat looks EXTREMELY lackluster for a RWBY game, like a ‘step down from Grimm Eclipse’...and although I do think Arrowfell does an okay job of being the type of game that it is, I also kinda have to agree with those people.^^; I’ve found more action-packed platformers browsing for Flash games in 2008...

Even just more expressive FX animation could have helped (a combo mechanic would’ve worked WONDERS); the act of fighting feels more like a means to an end than something the devs really want you to focus on and enjoy. It’s been said many times that RWBY no longer remembers why most of its fans were originally drawn to it-- unique, creative fight scenes that told stories about their characters through high-intensity action-- and that’s on full display here.

And on that note: if you just want to make a cheap RWBY game, a sidescrolling brawler against hordes of Grimm sprites, or even a simple PVP (put that bloated character roster to good use...) would be a much better fit for the franchise than even a REALLY GOOD version of Arrowfell. :T Just sayin’.

Plot and Characters -The moment we’ve all been waiting for~ ^^ *cracks knuckles*

-In brief: the plot sucks and the plot-relevant characters also suck. :/ WayForward at least did a good job building the game despite clearly not caring; as usual RT did not care about the writing AND did not do a good job. I went into it expecting the plot to be EVEN LESS interesting than those of the show, and I was STILL disappointed...

-Small things first: the repeated “I guess we’re doing this now” apathetic sarcasm from Team RWBY during the cutscenes was kind of...irritating, actually. Especially after we had to watch RWB sit around watching the plot go by for half of Volume 8...it’s bad enough when the audience starts to feel like the protagonists have no real investment in the plot (which has been a thing since V5...); it’s a whole new level of bad when the protagonists themselves all but admit it right to our faces. We’re supposed to assume that team RWBY is still here because ‘it’s the right thing to do’; they ‘don’t [want to] let anyone else die’...but more and more of their chances to actually portray that type of righteous character onscreen keep getting replaced by quirky, disinterested snark or pointless one-liners. And I don’t think RT realizes that if that’s all we’re getting...then the result is a story about characters who have no reason to be in it and don’t even want to. :/

-Re: Fifestone-- I’ve already said much more than I planned to say about him (through responding to those asks, if you remember ^^;) but my original note was as follows: in this day and age when workers’ rights are finally making a long-overdue comeback in the public consciousness, and ESPECIALLY considering the way RT treats its own employees, deciding you need an unnecessarily evil union leader in your fictional story is disgusting, vile and morally reprehensible. I used to think RT’s leadership was just ‘childish-bad’...y’know, selfishness and an unwillingness to compromise or improve making life hell for everyone else. But something like this feels more like ‘evil-bad’-- i.e. deciding that the hell you’re putting other people through is necessary, enough to justify and actively maintain through propaganda/manipulation. I’d...really hate to see RT go down that road. :[

-Let’s end on a lighter note by talking about Bram Thornmane: probably the most pathetic antagonist in the entire franchise. ^^;;; When I heard him admit that he seriously did ALL that just because he wanted to join the Ace-Ops (THE ACE OPS??? THE ACE OPS?!?!!!! o_O) I literally sat at my desk at work and laughed out loud, for like 5 minutes. ^^;

Seriously, though, it’s SO bad...I thought things couldn’t get any worse than Adam ‘my girlfriend left me’ Taurus, but here we are. And at least Adam looked cool (and his character assassination was absolutely hilarious; 50% of the reason I love him is because I spent Volumes 4 through 6 laughing at him constantly XD).

Thornmane, on the other hand, is a nothing character. No cool design, no interesting personality traits, no noteworthy connections to any substantial characters. I don’t even know what his semblance is (he mentions it during his boss fight, so I assume it’s in the game somewhere...does anyone know??).

So yeah, “I’m gonna steal unique technology and kill thousands of people to maybe hopefully make Ironwood look bad because he wouldn’t let me in the special club” is just the icing on the nothing-cake. Even a basic “I wanna take over the world” motivation would be better; it would at least make his actions feel justified...as it is, he just chose the most effortful, overly-convoluted way possible to express his anger over getting passed up for a team of huntsmen SO elite and SO special and perfect that they got washed by four newbie huntresses in 5 minutes. T_T Wowza. Now there’s an experience worth spending 30 bucks and 4 hours of your time...

-Easy Thornmane fix: Actually USE Arrowfell. They mentioned that Arrowfell was like an abandoned laboratory full of never-before-seen technology too dangerous to release to the world...USE that. If Thornmane wants to make Ironwood look bad, let him start handing this stuff out like candy to any thug on the street, and get people speculating about why such terrible weapons were even being made, and demanding that the General take responsibility (insert retroactive foreshadowing for his turn to the dark side in V8 here). Let him convince BRIR, the ‘guardians of Arrowfell’ (whatever that means) that this technology needs to be shared with the public to sort of ‘even the playing field’, let the people take back power from the tyrannical Atlas elites (insert morally-gray actually class-conscious Fifestone character here). Let him hoard some of the more frightening weapons for himself, and try to overthrow Ironwood (insert actually necessary Lt. and, i suppose that's the end. thank you to everyone who read until the end of this post, and an extra thank you to everyone who's been keeping up with my initial thoughts throughout the entire season. it's been a wild ride, and i've enjoyed getting to both highlight the aspects of the show i thought were done well, and discuss the reasons why i found the show lacking when i did.

i don't think i'm going to do initial thoughts for the staff series at least (i only have so much time i can spend on tumblr, and with despair time coming back i'd rather devote my time to that), and we'll see where i'm at with the tomjake series and/or season 4. i had gotten to the point before i started watching DC that consistently posting on tumblr had got to feel like a chore, and while my initial hype for DC was what got me posting more frequently again, i don't want to have the same burnout cycle occur here.

i definitely haven't gotten to the point where i'm going to give up on the show as a whole, though, so i'll probably still be involved in DC stuff for a while to come. best wishes to Disventure Camp moving forward-- may your talent only improve, and your ambition never fade.

... i thought that the point was supposed to be that Jake grew more than anyone here, which is why he was facing down Riya. i mean, i guess you could say that Ally had to grow a new personality for the beginning of the season, and then have that character develop. she is more changed from s2 Ally than Jake is from s1 Jake because Jake had more of a character in s1.

i know that they didn't really have time, but with Alec and Ellie working together (and Alec protecting Ellie, as he did here), i had kind of hoped that we'd get a bit more closure on their relationship. like, does Ellie still hate Alec for betraying her? or is the fact that they were going to be in the villains alliance together mean that they'd cross that bridge? maybe i'm just forgetting, but their relationship feels somewhat unresolved. (i mean relationship platonically btw; no hate to people who ship them but i don't need to know if they're a couple or not because the canon answer is obviously no)

i know i probably would have made fun of this scene for being super corny/moving too fast if Tom had said "i love you," but it's perhaps equally funny that he didn't. like, c'mon bro, you can't even muster the L word in this incredibly dramatic and heroic moment?

y'know, beyond just not having a good time slot in which to do so, i also kinda put off writing these initial thoughts because i just really didn't feel like having to write anything about ONC's choice regarding the winner of the season. everyone online seems to have these really radical opinions-- either saying that this was a brilliantly subversive and poetic choice, or that the entire season (and perhaps even s2 before it) are ruined by the choice to let Riya in. the truth is, i'm incredibly neutral.

on one hand, i'm incredibly disappointed. if you've been keeping up with these initial thoughts throughout the season, or especially my episode-by-episode power rankings, you'll know that i've very firmly believed that Jake was going to be the winner of this season since the beginning of the merge. and it's not because he's my favorite character and i really wanted him to win or anything-- i have a generally favorable opinion on Jake, but it was mostly because i thought that the arcs and messages of the season would be best capped off with a Jake win. therefore, it's saddening to believe that they didn't capitalize on all that potential just for the sake of shock value.

then again, i really appreciate what ONC was trying to do with Riya. i can tell that they must have felt like they had a lot to prove with Riya in DCAS given how mixed her reception was in s2. so, they put in a lot of work to "fix" her character in DCAS, and, on the whole, i think they got a lot better! as much as i was predicting the Jake win, i was also kind of dreading it, just because it was the sort of cheesy, fanservicey ending that could be predicted from a mile away. so i appreciate the boldness to go for an unexpected ending, and the refusal to stagnate in cookie cutter fan-pleasing storylines when your artistic heart is driving you in another direction.

which is why, in the end, i have no strong opinions. i think that the character writing absolutely could have been set up to establish viewer expectations better, but i also don't think that the entire season is unwatchable because Riya wins. the truth of the matter is still that all of the other contestants besides Yul are the real winners of the season, because they made friends and grew as people. if you rewatch the season, you can still see the gang do just that. but the equal truth is that all of the promises those friends made and the goal that drove them to improve might all feel a bit more hopeless with the knowledge that Connor never did get to one-up Riya. People who needed the money more, like Ashley, Alec, or Ellie didn't get a cent of it. and unlike it would be for Jake, who had a lot of connections with a lot of people, many contestants had pretty much no bearing on the winner of the season at all.

i want to believe that the Disventure Camp writing can and will continue to overall get better, but i also can't ignore the obvious signs of growing pains. can't bring myself to get all too mad at them either, though. mostly, i just want to stay out of any drama.

it really shows that Jake hasn't been able to look at social media since the beginning of the show. trust me, buddy, not everyone was rooting for you.

It's theme song analysis time! It's mostly gonna be about Ashe's theme but I will talk about all of the theme songs are perfect under the cut :]

I love ashe’s theme song so much, it’s My Famed Disappearing Act by Thank You Scientist. Not only is it a fucking BANGER but it fits ashe so well, especially knowing what happens to him at the end of season one. From the first time ashe was introduced, music has been a big part of him and this is the kind of music he likes so it has to be a big part of him too. 

The entire song is very reminiscent of ashe’s last scene in the finale, but this part of the song really makes you start thinking about that scene if you’re thinking about ashe. It feels a lot like when he’s already accepted that he’s going to be taken over by the trickster and he’s saying goodbye to the boys. The next verse is along the same lines but its a lot more complex. I didn’t even notice the connection until i was looking at the lyrics just now.

The first two lines are the trickster trying to take control of ashe’s body, the third line is ashe feeling his control fading (a bit of a stretch i know but its fine), and the last line is either dakota wanting to save ashe or its ashe not wanting to let down his new friends who are in danger.

And finally, in the last verse, the lyric “Don’t think you’d notice If i was ever gone.” Ashe was a nobody before he met the prime defenders. No one knew him and he didn’t know anyone. If he disappeared, mark would be the only person to ever know about it. And even after he became a prime defender, I don’t think he really believed them when they shared their appreciation of him. It took him a bit to realize that he was one of them. They cared about him and if he disappeared, they would burn down the world to get him back.

- Next is William’s theme. Yes, William’s theme song is Unravel from Tokyo Ghoul. And while that is kinda funny, that’s actually one of the reasons why its so perfect. You cannot tell me that William isn’t the kind of person to unironically listen to unravel and start crying. He’s so painfully a lame nerdy teen but he also has a lot of serious stuff going on. And tbh unravel and william have a very similar balance of cringe and actual serious, emotional vibes.

- Dakota’s theme is The Day from My Hero Academia aka the first opening theme of the show. First of all, Dakota is basically just a bnha character so thats already fitting. And this song is just really fitting for pd in general cuz its basically about the beginning of the show where school is starting and things go from them just being in school to dealing with things much larger than themselves and, well, that’s a lot of what pd is.

- Vyncent’s theme song is Wayward Daughter from Final Fantasy XIV. Tbh i know close to nothing about final fantasy (which is why it took so much work to even find the name of this song in the first place (tysm zoz)) but it does fit the trend of the theme songs in the sense of it being from an RPG which matches Vynce very well. If you know more about ffxiv and have smth else about why it fits him then pls let me know!

- And finally, the main theme. The song is Hero Too from My Hero Academia. This one is pretty obvious. Not only is pd basically just bnha with a different plot, but the whole point of the song is extremely fitting. The main lyric is “I am a hero too” and well, one of the main struggles of pd is that the heroes won’t treat them like real heroes and just treat them like kids.

note: for anyone who didn't know, yes these are all their official theme songs. bizly likes to choose songs for individual characters to play in the bg when a scene is centered on that character. and no, none of what i talked about in ashe's song was a reason for why that song was chosen for ashe. it was completely coincedence (i think) which i think makes it cooler! a big theme of jrwi is accidental foreshadowing ig

can anybody please explain the appeal of tim drake because ive been into the batfamily for a while now and tbh im really confused on why people like his character so much compared to the other robins. like they all have their own thing going on and he just... doesnt?

Have you read his Robin solo? Because if not and you want to try to like him but just don’t understand why people do, that’s what I’d recommend. That and like, Young Justice 1998. 

Because Tim definitely... does have his own thing going on. Maybe not in the same way as the others, but like, there’s a reason he has a 183 issue long solo comic that ran for like 16 years: he was fun to read about!

But I will give some more specific thoughts on the subject as a Tim Drake Appreciator™ (this got long im sorry)

The appeal of Tim (especially early on Tim) is kinda the fact that he’s this more normal kid. For a while that is his ‘thing’. He was basically designed to be a self-insert (he definitely became more than that along the way, but from the start he was meant to be relatable) in a different way than how Dick and Jason had been before him. 

Like the role of Robin from the start was this way to create a character young readers could identify with more, could see themselves in more. And Dick and Jason did that, but they still had this element to their lives and stories that was more... unattainable for the average reader. Dick was a circus prodigy, Jason was either also a circus prodigy if we remember pre-crisis or if we go with his post-crisis story he’s this street-wise orphaned kid who had a really tough life but still went on to be a hero anyways. Obviously those lives are relatable for some people, but those’re definitely not as broadly recognized as common upbringings especially not by DC trying to market to the ‘average’ kid/young teen.

But the creation of Tim changed the game a bit. Dick and Jason were these aspirations a kid could look to like ‘wow I want to be cool like that!’ but Tim was a Robin designed for kids to look at and go ‘wow, his problems and civilian life are just like mine AND he’s a hero, I want to be cool like that!’, ya know? Tim was... just a clever kid with an average life who managed to connect some dots and had enough drive to want to fix things he saw were a problem, he didn’t have the same kind of heightened drama backstory the others did. The Robins that came after Tim definitely didn’t have this idea of relatability in mind the same way either. Unfortunately Steph’s time as Robin was much more of a marketing ploy than an actual like... decision to make her Robin, so it’s hard to really fit her into this conversation. But Damian from the start was first of all initially created not to be Robin but just as the son of Talia and Bruce back in the 80’s, but when he was later reimagined into the character that would become Robin he had the whole ‘raised by and is the heir to the league of assassins and is the son of batman’ thing going on still. He just was not supposed to be relatable that same way, he was a character designed with different things in mind.

I really think it was more just DC’s 90′s era younger-audience comics in general that tried to push that relatability thing (like in YJ how Cissie even after quitting the team stays a major character as a civilian throughout, and the civilian aspect that’s super present in Bart’s 90s solo too, etc), but later in the 2000’s that idea was definitely pushed to the side in favor of... putting in even more dramatic superhero-y stuff.

And the other thing that’s... such a more normal thing but it actually made him unique here, was that Tim’s dad was still alive until like 2004 (so 15 years into Tim being around as a character). This gave Tim a lot more typical ‘family school girlfriends normal life etc’ problems on top of/in contrast with his superhero problems. These just manifested in very different ways than they could with the other Robins because of that unique situation with a living civilian parent who doesn’t know about hero stuff (until he did find out which lead to that whole Unmasked thing, but there was only the brief time around War Games & Identity Crisis where Jack knew Tim was actively Robin and he was... still alive) Tim also had his life at school expanded way more than most other Robins, like, he had such an extended supporting cast of civilian friends which is a really interesting thing to read about (and the fact that he hasn’t had that stuff since the New 52 I think really hurts his character)

And then related to that loss of his dad... Personally another thing about Tim that really interests me is how a lot of things were more... his choice. if that makes sense. A lot of characters in the Batfamily were struck with tragedy/extreme trauma before they became heroes and that’s what spurred them into this life of becoming heroes. Tim’s situation wasn’t like that at all! When he first got involved in everything during Lonely Place of Dying, the only tragedy he’d experienced was watching Dick’s tragedy happen. Which sure yes traumatic obviously, but that’s not the same as how pretty much all the other Bats had gone through these very personal losses or other sorts of very first-hand personal traumas that served as motivators. Tim didn’t start to experience those things until after he got involved in the hero life, and aside from his Mom’s death which was more of just an unrelated incident (that technically happened before he was officially Robin but it was during his time training to become Robin), pretty much all these other tragedies and things... would not have happened or been experienced by him had he not become Robin. 

That’s not me placing blame on him or anything like that, because god no that’s not how that works, but it’s very interesting because from his point of view he definitely feels that guilt because he knows him being Robin played a role in a lot of it (Thinking specifically about in Adventure Comics #3 when Kon even says “I know what guilt does to you” to him like it’s... it’s a thing with him!). His dad was murdered because he was Robin. He only met Steph and started dating her through being Robin, and thus he would not have experienced the loss of his girlfriend dying like that had he not been Robin. Tim met both Conner and Bart through being Robin, and would not have had a personal connection to them when they died otherwise. The whole Bruce’s death thing after Final Crisis, like. I could go on honestly, that was only talking about losses not even his own experiences nearly getting killed, but yeah, all these personal tragedies were experienced by him specifically because he chose to bring himself into this life, which I think in turn plays into how throughout his comics you see him go from having this really optimistic view on things and being really hopeful to seeing him at that low point he reaches by the time of Red Robin. (thinking about that one post that points out how Tim started out in the 90′s as an optimist and Steph a cynic and by the time they were Red Robin and Batgirl in 2009 they had switched outlooks...) 

I also think that him having had such a great team book with the original Young Justice can help contribute to people liking him. His friendships with the rest of the core four and that team in general are really compelling. (and that’s something like again when looking at the other Robins, while Dick had the Titans ofc, Jason never really found footing with a team outside of like one mission with the Titans and then We All Know How Damian’s Teen Titans Stuff Went. Steph also only ever really worked with a team outside the batfam on very brief occasions) and even though I’m not as big of a fan of the 2003 Teen Titans run that came after YJ, people who read Young Justice and also that could follow and be attached to those same characters over a pretty decently long period of time. 

Idk man, I don’t really have an ultimate point here i’m just rambling. I can definitely understand not seeing the appeal to him right away (honestly i’ve been into Batfam since like 2013/2014 and Tim did not become one of my faves until 2020) especially if like... idk when you say ‘into the batfamily’ that can mean a lot of different things. If you’re reading more like the bigger events with the batfam sure Tim can kinda fade into the bg a bit, if you’re more talking about fanon the fanon version of him is prettyyyyy uhhhhh not really the same as how he was in pre New 52 canon, if you’re mainly reading New 52 era Batfam stuff then that Tim I also don’t understand the appeal of bc thats Not My Boy, if you’re interested in a different member primarily and only familiar with Tim when he shows up in things focused on that other character then it’s easy to not really understand the appeal right away bc he’s more there to support that character rather than shine in his own right. 

I think it’s also worth mentioning he’s just not everybody’s cup of tea, and that’s totally fine. Like, these are fictional characters and sometimes you just will vibe with a character and sometimes you won’t! idk if this helped at all or even made sense. but yeah. I just think he’s neat 😌

-Riley (anxiously?) pulling his sleeves over his hands and him when he gets ‘blessed’ decides without much hesitation shown from him to die by sunlight (but also did they have to traumatize her like that like sure I understand maybe for plot/def. wouldn’t have believed it was real otherwise but still)

-the priest dude inviting Riley to do AA on the island and then flat out admitting he didn’t realize it’d be awkward just the two of them LMAO

-the priest’s voice and how he talks and how he genuinely thought he was doing something right

-Joe Collie and him crying over his dog/his softness and the scene with him and Leeza

-lmao I thought the doctor’s mom looked/sounded like someone young trying to play an older person HAHA

-didn’t mind the monologuing about death but some it went kinda long and my eyes started to glaze over a little fhjghf

-Sheriff Hassan saying he misses praying with his son and at the end the last thing they do together is pray (initiated by his son)

-that one conversation on the boat between Riley and his dad and something about money (idk since there’s usually the whole forgive others unconditionally and then you have his two devout parents and his dad admitting he does love his son or he tries but is resentful of having to pay so much for the bail/laywers etc.)

-Riley’s thoughts on what happens after death liKE YES (got raised in a christian household and I remember throughout highschool just being like...but the whole life in heaven for eternity sounds so tiring can’t I just be left alone/fade into oblivion fhfjjfjfhg) and never really brought that up to anybody but hearing that was weirdly cathartic? validating? aNYWAYS)

-thanks this show made me realize one of the surefire ways to freak me out HAHA (the whole nothing’s out of place in the bg but then something melts away? AWFUL. the fact that something’s been there the whole time watching you? extremely eerie/unsetttling also I hate jumpscares where they add loud sounds but that abrupt discordant violin sound is gOOD and adds to creepiness haha.

-the way the ‘angel’ feeds on victims like he’s holding a lover is interesting and also super unsettling haha

-oh oH I loved that one scene of the big black empty doorway and the man hearing his own voice thrown back at him

-one of Bev’s lackeys (the big dude with the gun) looking after the teen and the man who didn’t know wtf was going on

-sPEAKING OF BEV what a spiteful awful manipulative unkind person I had to pause and take breathers when I was watching hgfhjfj and maybe just a little sad? (pitiable?) thought it was super interesting at the end when she’s on the beach and sees the sheriff and his son praying she almost looked like she was going to copy them but nope she’s just digging into the sand as a last ditch effort. 

-the way Bev talks is interesting too (the rhythm?)

-that reveal when the priest is sitting and confessing gOOD and also how frighteningly easy it was to kinda shift/twist the sermons towards something a bit darker near the end of the show

What were your thoughts on the episodes of this season?

pajama day was an ok start, not very memorable but had a kinda promising plotline that kept it afloat and seeing everyone in pjs was cute! the second ep was enjoyable too, nothing special but the tolkien gag was made stronger by the commitment to the bit (changing online links etc) and my sp parents-loving heart was warmed by steve black being a massive lotr nerd (i wish that he'd done his lotr-themed weed idea in the end tbh)...

still, despite some strong ideas, the writing this season was shockingly bad and at many points it was pretty obvious to me that the season was a low priority for m&t. i have a strong suspicion that it was primarily written by ghost writers, which isn't necessarily a bad thing! i'd love if sp brought in fresh talent to the writing team, but whoever handled these 6 eps seemed to be struggling to find their feet.

city people and back to the cold war were probably the worst eps of the season, with city people being absolutely lacklustre and back to the cold war relying far too heavily on jokes completely empty of substance. it was disappointing and surprising, bc eps with either cartman or butters as a central character are usually really good and i think it's hard to go wrong when playing liane and eric off against each other (or indeed butters and his parents), but they ended up neglecting to properly utilise their strongest characters here. the plot with mr mackey did feel like a suitable commentary on current events and definitely reminiscent of the attitude i have noticed in american adults around me, and was the saving grace of the horse riding episode, which otherwise would have honestly been one of the worst sp episodes in a very long time. i would have liked to have shown in to certain american family members who have been treating the war in ukraine like a personal issue. still, as a european i didn't find it to be anything revolutionary.

the last two eps were the strongest, with the last possibly being my favorite for the season. help, my teenager hates me! was a nice, wholesome main 4 ep, though i thought it felt odd that both eric and randy barely spoke (this has been happening a lot this season though, with certain characters just fading into the bg almost as badly as, historically, kenny has done). eric was forgivable, due to the continuity gag (him being depressed about living in a hot dog), but randy could have had a couple more lines, at least - it's weird to have him there and not talking these days. still, i was really happy to see stuart (!!!) and gerald used, and even jimbo got to make a cool little cameo as eric's stand-in dad. the take on teenagers was pretty funny (them with their heads on the trolleys in the supermarket made me laugh especially - i was totally like that when i was a teenager myself, oh my god, the agony of being taken places you asked to go, the agony of doing literally anything etc etc. also the kid burning himself with the naruto poster behind him... classic).

the "st patrick's day special" was the closest to being "classic sp" levels of enjoyable; it was great to see butters and randy both used well (as a butters fan i hate to say this, but butters is funniest when he's suffering for no reason, and they don't make him suffer enough these days). playing them off each other was a good choice, and something i wish they'd leaned into a bit heavier - they're two of the show's best and most popular characters, but how often do we get to see them interact? the take on st patrick's day itself was kinda unintelligible and the episode wasn't really saying anything that i liked (making light of sexual assault accusations with no clear punchline just felt a bit weird coming from people who hold a lot of power in a notoriously abusive industry... but hey). i have noticed since being in america that americans take to this holiday with a bizarre amount of enthusiasm for people who by and large are about as irish as i am (which is to say: not irish) so the idea that it's secretly a way to celebrate being white felt pretty on the nose to what i've been thinking every time i see all the green shit in stores lol. i liked the thing they did with splicing artstyles at the end for st patrick! i've definitely missed that aspect of the show in recent years.

all in all it was just ok, with some strong moments and a lot more shockingly terrible ones (seriously... some of the writing was just so awful this year that i almost gave up watching halfway through the season). in some ways i do feel like aspects of the show are headed in the right direction, so i'm still excited to see what next season is like, but if it isn't significantly better than this one was, i'm not sure how much longer i'm gonna be bothered to keep watching -_-;;

- I see the KSA building got an upgrade since it was destroyed lol. But yeah the bgs have gotten so much better. Mostly. Rooms tend to not be furnished much still...

Chapter 518 - ...Honestly Frankenstein, your plan sucks. It'd be one thing if you had a group of hackers but there's only Third and Tao.

- So Lukedonia really does have nobles worldwide for scouting. And yet they still alway know nothing. Kinda embarrassing tbh.

- Crombel should have lined up his eradicating humanity plan for 2012/2013. It would be funny.

- So uh. Tillie def has broken up with Aris once the end of the world shtick became obvious, right? Right??? Also imagining all the non murderous Union members trying to prevent this shit but it's a bit hard when your life's work is education... The department heads are mostly modified though, one would think, and should have hackers so they help through that I suppose. Or just by preventing Crombel from accessing their resources.
