Hi! Can I ask you a question about France? How common or uncommon or weird is the use of coucou as a greeting? Especially between adults. Would it be super weird if I went to France and greeted someone like that?

I don't trust the click-baity articles that show up when I google this (I'm not even sure all of them were written by humans), so I'd rather ask someone that, you know, actually lives over there.

Hi! Coucou is a pretty common greeting including between adults (though it's more often used by women as it does sound a bit cutesy), but I think it implies pre-established friendly relations, unlike the neutral Bonjour or Salut. I only use it with family and friends. Friendly acquaintances too—okay now that I think about it, it's hard to say where I draw the coucou line. I use it as a greeting when I enter the library if there's no one in there but the librarian because I know her well, but if there are other people in the room I say bonjour even if they're children. And of course if I knew the librarian very well but didn't like her she wouldn't get a coucou. You kind of have to follow your heart with this greeting.

But definitely don't use it to greet people in a shop or formal context or anyone you don't know well because that would be weird (in my view!) Coucou sounds affectionate, I often use it in writing to set the tone ("Hi I am an informal unthreatening email !") (also if a French person sends you a text that starts with Cc, that's textspeak for coucou)

To me "Salut !" is "Hi!" while "Coucou" is Hi :) <3

My comic is so pretty...

The hiatus is letting me take a little extra time on these episodes, and I'm definitely putting it to good use!!!

#almost done with my 8th episode... which will give me. two weeks. of buffer...#id really like at LEAST a month... but to be more comfortable id like two #which means 2-6 more episodes before I come back!#I've got about 7 weeks so its possible. but i do still have to finish book 4 #so much to do ..........#I decided for my next comic im doing 3 updates a month.#having 10 days instead of 7 to make an episode is such a huge huge huge difference...#difference in quality and in my health!#anyways the comic is really pretty im really happy with the work im doing rn #the environments especially. im getting to spend a nice amount of time on them and theyre turning out so nicely #its nice to be able to write with a lot of different environments and not have to redo panels when I get to them cause of time #cause every time theres a wild angle? you need a new background...#so sometimes. often actually. there just isnt the time to make the backgrounds for those and i have to make them more flat...#which is fine. it doesnt really affect anything narratively. but. idk. it's kinda sad right?#anyways yeah! 10 days will be much better.#36 episodes a year is about what ive been uploading with my hiatuses on the weekly schedule anyways!#so might as well cut out that super stressful middleman and just commit to that #52 a year is just such a huge difference and i have to accept its not possible to me #i will hurt myself trying to do that. and i want to make comics my whole life!#so i cant push myself that hard now and sacrifice my future. we're gonna go slower after this...#anyways yeah cant wait to come back but also time. if I could get an extra week like a secret one just for me #where theres no chores no nothin just me and my work #thatd be great! so go ahead and do what you gotta do to give me a little pocket dimension #me: ugh i want to return right now...#the more logical me: NO we need the time to finish everything!!!!!! what ive noticed with the rise of the anons lately is that it doesn't actually matter to them that you do care about other characters. that you multi-ship, or that you have posts on your blog dedicated to the characters they claim to be pushed to the side. i love all the characters for different reasons and in different ways, i reblog jily content just as much as jegulus and wolfstar, but they're not going to care about that. they see you like jegulus and they come for you, no one's going to win

Nothing like Heartstopper S2E8 removing some of Taylor Swift's "seven" lyrics just so that the singing can specifically come back in at "Or hide in the closet" while Isaac is processing difficult emotions related to the book he's reading (i.e., Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen).

Did I mention "Or hide in the closet" hits just as the camera focus finishes shifting away from Isaac?

#This is not fine #Warning: Long tags ahead (2 topics)#TOPIC 1:#I'm glad Isaac feels safe enough to be reading this book and processing emotions around his friends #That's the positive spin on “he's quietly dealing with a lot while next to his friends and they're not noticing and he's not sharing" right #The contrast of this with the happy friend-bonding montage time feels purposeful and sad (esp. with lyrics about staying in the closet)#but on the bright side this is in the midst of happy friend-bonding montage time so we also see them having happy bonding times together #- showing the friendship is still strong even if right now Isaac isn't wholly known or fully fitting #Hopefully this is leading to Isaac telling his friends what he's going through in S3 and the friendships adapting to fit him better #TOPIC 2:#Also - don't think it's unintentional that where the camera focus shifts to is Nick with his arms around Charlie and then kissing his head #I think we're being purposefully distracted from Isaac with allo 'cuteness'#Because what the other characters often get swept up in - especially as they all couple up in S2 - is alloromantic/allosexual interactions #And that's frequently what the world prioritises or cares more about too #I think the show is intentionally calling everyone - from the characters to us watching them to the whole world - out #So that hopefully we (general) can all be more aware and do better #[In case you were wondering this N&C/Isaac scene is also right after we see short clips of Elle & Tao and Tara & Darcy cuddling -#which also seems very intentional: Isaac - sandwiched in between views of cuddling couples - alone in more ways than one]#CONCLUSION:#I think everything is working together to highlight the contrast between what N&C and Isaac are respectively experiencing in this moment #Did I mention this is not fine?#It is well done though #heartstopper mini moment #isaac henderson #aroace #aromantic asexual #lgbtqia+#queer #taylor swift #seven

I bought the comic! 💖

I have a couple of my usual little minor nitpicks (as I am want to have), but I don’t even want to get into them because there were so few and they didn’t impact my enjoyment of the comic all that much. I thought it was super cute!

I won’t spoil anything in case anyone’s interested in buying it for themselves (which, I would say… yeah, buy it, totally!), but what I appreciated the most– especially since this is the first issue and it’s establishing who the girls are for anyone not super familiar with them– is that the girls end up saving the day together. It shows the importance of them not just being heroes, but also being a team (and also being supportive sisters, which… 🥹🫶) and that makes me feel like, even on a basic level, they get the characters. And that’s reassuring! Yay!

#and GODDDDDD Ms. Bellum being there….. just……. thank you 🙏#there were a couple of things that just made me very very happy #MINI SPOILERS AHEAD =>#I thought Him’s little robot destiny test-y guys were cute and fun but he’s not really a rooobooottt guuuyyyy ehhhhhh but like whatever #the comic was basically Super Zeroes but for a new comic book run for people not familiar with the characters…#…like I said I think that’s totally fine because the characters are being established!#it had a bit of its own twist and it worked!#buttercup’s compliment to blossom at the end… yeah she’s a great loner SHE COULD CARRY A SERIES BY HERSELF SHE IS THAT GREAT 😤#but she must be bubbles and buttercup’s brain cell… so of course it’s imperative that she leads them haha #there were some weird OOC-ish dialogue but again nothing that made me go like ???????#I could complain but I genuinely feel like this was honestly fine and good and cute and you know what?#hooray and good job to everyone involved I like it 👍#I’ll totally get the next issue when it comes out BUT THE DESCRIPTION OF IT WORRIES ME LMAOOOOOO #comic #powerpuff girls #ppg
