Inktober Monsters From Television Day 2: “The Moving Finger” from the final episode of the late 80s/early 90s show Monsters. Before it was filmed for TV, The Moving Finger was a short story penned by Stephen King. It’s about a man who is pushed to his limits when he encounters a single index finger that has impossibly clawed its way up his bathroom sink. The short story, for me, embodies a lot of what horror is about—Fear of the unknown especially. How could a finger snake it’s way up a drain? What is it attached to? What is it feeling around for exactly? The TV episode veers slightly of course from the story it is based on and, sadly, it’s played mostly for laughs.
