Reposting my Ardyn stuff for his birthday.
Here’s most of the Ardyn stuff I have dating back a year+ to the present.
To Die or Not to Die Complete
Did Ardyn see his immortality as a curse?
Did he desire death?
My answer is No. I provide interpretations of his lines and developer interviews. I conclude with my thoughts on Ardyn’s misunderstanding of the Light and Truth (referenced in Magna Insomnia). Perspectives on the Truth (of the True King) include: “You are not alone” , “The Reality of Death-Life”, and “ You are Empty”.
Complete refers to the added page on the Kimya/Ardyn allusion.
I have since had more thoughts on Ardyn’s use of “mottainai”, the “waste” is the lost potential due to Ardyn’s rejection. It’s worse!
Ardyn is Not Saved (Part 1)
The title refers to Terada’s vision of EPA. I have many thoughts about Episode Ardyn and Dawn of the Future. On one hand they are incongruent with Final Fantasy XV, on the other they underline the thrusts of the main story.
Dawn of the Future is not Revelatory, it is Illusory.
This piece covers some observations on the imagery in EPA that work as visual foils with FF15 proper, contrasting Ardyn with Noctis, underlying his villainy— his radical evil. For whatever reason this is ignored.
I conclude again with my thoughts on the Truth of the True King, with an excerpt from Religion and Nothingness (What is Religion?) by Keiji Nishitani. Absolute vs Relative Nothingness::Noctis vs Ardyn.
I’ve since tried working through Kitaro Nishida’s work. The field of bonds, I guess, is like the field of Absolute Nothingness in that contradictory identities are unified there… as is Reality. Removing the contradiction by saying the two are only one or the one are actually two stops short of Reality. The contradiction of many are one and one are many has to remain. I think the image for this is the Night Sky. Nishitani wrote about Overcoming Nihilism by going through it, I visualize Ardyn as stuck in the darkness of the night sky. Like each star is now the one light, one oppressive light, the predicate of King is cruel and cunning and no different from Bahamut - despite the choices of each star... ? Idk. It’s complicated.
But not as complicated as how Dawn of the Future contradicts established FF15 plot while seemingly contradicting FF15 story and themes until you snap out of it— Oracles speak to Messengers not the Crystal given to Lucis. They speak to exchange the Wills of mankind and the Six, necessitating 1.) the existence of both and 2.) a unity. FF15 is the story of the True King not a Prisoner of Fate.
Ardyn Lucis Charlie Complete in 8 Tweets
Commentary of my old Ardyn music video using Charlie Big Potatoes by Skunk Anansie with a bit of Nishida’s Inquiry into the Good and some of my NN Unitary Theory.
Basically, Ardyn’s a hedonist. That’s not good enough.
I still missed actually doing a play-by-play of the scene and shot choice… but I did include a mapping of Axis Memorae! The twitter version has an alternate Turks ending… maybe I’ll upload to YouTube someday…
I see EPA as a 4th wall breaking troll by Ardyn… a bored dream where he tells us what we want to hear… which isn’t what he already told us.

"This doesn't seem like much reward for the work you do."
Ardyn thought at first he had hallucinated the voice, he'd been starting to do that more than he wanted to admit.
The shadows seemed to seep away from the dark corner of the room, the opposite of how daemons sometimes appeared. A figure stepped out, moonlight from the window alighting over a lovely face, perhaps on the cusp of adulthood, with blue eyes that caught the light and almost reflected it.
Despite the ominous arrival, something within Ardyn relaxed for the first time in a very long time. "It's quite rude to enter someone's chambers without permission."
"And if I'm not there at all, but somewhere else, and allowing you to see me?" the figure mused, tone familiar.
Ardyn sat up in bed, staring. Now that he was paying attention, he could feel the power around this stranger, and knew that the comfort he felt was projected from that, somehow. "Are you a god?"
They smiled. "No, I have only ever served gods."
"A messenger, then? Is there something your master wishes from me?" He could not imagine having to bare another burden, another task that an Astral set upon his collapsing shoulders.
"No, nothing like that," the messenger stated, sitting casually on the side of Ardyn's bed as if they knew one another well.
Pale hands reached for him and he held completely still, worried what the messenger might do. He cupped his face and wiped his fingers under Ardyn's eyes, giving the slightest of pouts as if displeased. When he pulled back, Ardyn could see the black ichor painting that skin and flinched at the thought of corrupting a god's servant with the mark of his weakness.
"My name is Noctis." Ardyn tilted his head to the side, not commenting on the name, a soft sound of understanding leaving him after the messenger continued, "my god is Carbuncle."
A messenger named for the night did indeed fit with the God of Dreams and Mischief. But Ardyn didn't think he'd done anything to draw that particular god's attention for many years.
"And why are you here?"
"You have given our charges hope and banished darkness from many of their dreams. I offer companionship to them--I would do the same for you."
***
Noctis appeared without warning, always at night, always when Ardyn was alone. Given his comments during their first meeting, Ardyn realized it was only when he was asleep. They were simply very realistic seeming dreams.
It didn't matter, he realized, because after a night in Noctis' company, he awoke refreshed. He wasn't cured from the Scourge he'd been containing within himself, but it was quietened, as if it, too, had gotten a full night's sleep and wanted nothing more to do than laze about for the day.
He came to pray for Noctis' company, at times, when months had gone with no visit and Ardyn's mind and body were fraying at the edges. Always, Noctis visited him then, soothed him.
Coming to care for him was as inevitable as new cases of Scourge. Noctis was a gentle creature, though he had warned Ardyn time and again that he was a messenger for children and their casual cruelty might be his own. He had even shown Ardyn how he might appear to them, form melting through the years of human development until it reached around Ardyn's own age, hair stained with the beginning of grey, saying it was as old as he ever became.
"I suppose children think thirty is quite old," Ardyn had joked upon seeing it, not resisting the urge to touch and confirm it was as soft as it had been.
Noctis had laughed at that, but there was something brittle to the sound. He realized he did not know how messengers came into being, wondered if Noctis had ever been a mortal, if the lighter hair had been his natural look and it was stained black by the night that was his home now.
"Perhaps someday you will see me look such in the waking world and you may tell me then the differences between our ages," Noctis stated, in that way that made it sound like a prediction more than anything else.
"Is that possible? To see you while awake?"
"It is...draining. I exist safe in the realm of dreams. I can walk in your world, though, but everything I do costs me more."
"I do not wish for you to harm yourself for me."
Again Noctis laughed and again it was uncommonly sharp, like he knew something Ardyn didn't.
"What is it that you're thinking of?"
"I cannot say. There is...so much that I would tell you, if I could. Yet if I even think of doing so, my thoughts fail me, my voice silenced." Noctis shook his head. "That matters not at present. This is what does: I will see you on the morrow, in the sunlight, and allow your fellows to dismiss any doubts you may have of my reality."
He protested, because he knew by now that Noctis was indeed real, but not too much. He wanted to see him.
And he did. In the daylight Noctis went from attractive to stunning, all black hair and blacker shroud, with pale skin peeking through. His eyes seemed all the brighter, flicking between blue and pink as he observed Ardyn dealing with his court, seeming to delight in the little touches Ardyn stole whenever he could.
He was glad it wasn't a day when he was healing. Politics was aggravating, but it didn't give him that bone deep exhaustion, and he could spare Noctis all of his attention whenever there was a free moment. He only wished Aera was there to meet him, Noctis always denying that he could simply go to her and introduce himself.
Somehow Noctis had both Somnus and Gilgamesh friendly with him within moments, regaling them over dinner with what must have been a tale for children of four friends in a flying chariot fighting monsters to bring daylight to a land of eternal darkness. When he told it, their emotions swelled with the story, as though he were a musician and they were his instruments. They could feel the triumphs and heartbreak--the bittersweet ending had Gilgamesh hiding tears.
It was a good day, he thought as he settled into bed that night, having talked Noctis into lying next to him in the last few moments before he lost his physical form, so that he was there already in Ardyn's dreams.
That was the last good day he ever had with Somnus.
***
"Oh Ardyn."
The gasped words were the first new sounds Ardyn had heard in a very long time. Years, perhaps? It was so hard to keep track.
Then there were hands, so gentle. He had forgotten what gentleness felt like. They stroked his hair, so careful of the knots and gore in it, never pulling.
When he managed to open his eyes, the light hurt, but the form before him shifted to block most of it out as soon as he flinched. He shouldn't have had to look to know who it was, but already he was having so much trouble telling reality from hallucinations.
Yet the Scourge was never so quiet, even in his most realistic visions.
"Noctis," he tried to say, but his throat was too dry to speak.
Noctis let go--no, he wanted to say, that's not what he meant--but it was only to retrieve a canteen that he held to Ardyn's lips. He was always so prepared, for a being that needed nothing to survive.
"Noctis," he said again and this time his voice was clear enough, held the desperation within him at just seeing the messenger again.
"I cannot free you. Nor can I stay long. I risk much coming here at all. He will know and even he may command my god in this." There had been no hope within Ardyn that Noctis could free him, so no hope was dashed by that. But he had thought he would stay, at least until Ardyn's thoughts were clearer.
Lips against his brow, soft and smooth, his eyes fluttering shut as he latched onto the moment. He would hold it in mind for his eternity of torture, would not let Bahamut nor the daemons take it from him. Noctis was his, as much as a messenger could belong to any but their master.
"I cannot free you, but I can offer the smallest of solace. A century of dreamless sleep, in hopes that when you awaken, the world will be a kinder place to you."
Ardyn's cheeks were wet with what he feared was ichor, but he felt like he was crying. So kind, his Noctis, to grant him such a reprieve. He knew casting magic on a waking mortal would take much out of him and yet he didn't hesitate. Ardyn could only hope that Bahamut did not punish Noctis for his compassion, the way he had everyone else.
The twilight touch of dream magic seeped into Ardyn's mind, cradling him as Noctis' touches did. And while the sleep was dreamless, he could still feel Noctis all around him.
***
"Who are you?" Verstael demanded, alerting Ardyn of another presence coming into the room.
He reached out with his magic and jerked up immediately, resisting the urge to run a hand through his knotted hair or smooth out his rumpled clothing. That would simply draw more attention to his state. The Scourge settled within him, lulled into calm as though a child whose dreams the messenger had soothed.
"Noctis," he greeted, before he had even come through the door.
Verstael looked between the two of them and Ardyn wanted to push him out and lock the door behind him. He did not deserve to see Noctis, his dissecting looks and speculation were like blasphemy.
"Full glad I am to see you free at last." His eyes glowed pink with delight and he caught Ardyn's hands in his own without hesitation, never shying from the Scourge within him.
Ardyn did not resist the urge to pull one of those hands closer, dipping his head to kiss the knuckles. "And glad am I, to bask in your grace."
A chuckle answered him, Noctis pressing a quick kiss to his cheek. He glanced around, a worried frown creasing his youthful face for just a moment before the gentle mirth that characterized him was back in full force.
"And this is?" Verstael persisted.
"Noctis, messenger to the God of Dreams." Ardyn was succinct, gripping Noctis' waist gently and pulling him closer, away from the mortal who was now too fascinated for his own health.
"God of Dreams? That one exists, too?"
Noctis raised his eyebrows. "Few and far are those who follow my master as they grow, mortal minds slipping away from the unfathomable, preferring answers over questions."
Verstael raised his eyebrows. "A children's god, then? And yet you are here for him?."
"Oft was this one in dreams of our flock, hope incarnate to many a small spark."
With a chuckle, Ardyn clarified, pressing lips against the side of Noctis' head as he spoke before Verstael could become offensive and chase Noctis off. "In the olden days, I was...something of a figure of good dreams to the children of my kingdom. Noctis became curious when he realized I was an actual person and investigated."
"Ah, an old friend, then? You're certainly," Verstael's eyes dragged over them, "close. I had not thought you on amiable terms with any god."
Ardyn's hold on Noctis tightened and he stiffened beneath it, but did not pull away. "I have no quarrel with Noctis or his master. They have very little influence over the waking world."
"But over the unconscious mind?"
Noctis cocked his head to the side, regarding Verstael with a look that was wholly inhuman. In his pretty face, which had previously been so natural at mimicking their expressions, it seemed exceptionally alien, enough to unsettle Verstael, enough to make Ardyn know that it had been on purpose.
"Mortal minds are but gardens, tended at the behest of their owners. Not all are equal."
Ardyn wondered what his own looked like in that metaphor. A dark, desolate place, perhaps, of rotted plants and bare trees.
A hand squeezed his arm and he looked down to meet Noctis' blue eyes. "Some are better," he stated, "some are favorites."
He felt...he wasn't sure how he felt, at the pronouncement.
***
"Is this truly your wish?"
It was a dream, Ardyn knew immediately, as much as it was a scene from earlier that night. He had yearned for comfort and forced himself to some approximation of sleep, caught quickly by Noctis' gentle magic, that pushed away the souls clamoring within him.
"I have much to learn of this modern world," he replied, searching through the shadows for where Noctis might be hiding. "And this suits my purposes."
"As did the Infernian."
He stilled. "I would never do that to you, Noctis. Do not fear me." Anything else from Noctis he would accept, if not the love he craved, then hatred. Just not fear.
Arms wrapped around him from behind, the side of Noctis' head resting on the back of his shoulder. "It is not fear. It is concern. His memories warp you, as do all the others' that you steal."
"You are not in them," he whispered into the nightmare scene of the dream, of the people he had daemonified. "The Infernian's memories do not include you."
"Thankfully."
Ardyn supposed that was true. He had searched through them when he could, wishing to know more of Noctis, and had only found a few memories of Carbuncle. He had little reason to associate with Ifrit, perhaps, or Ifrit had little reason to bother remembering the messenger of an Astral he cared nothing about.
"Will you stay with me?"
Noctis pressed a kiss to his shoulder that he could feel even through the thick layers of his clothing. "I have ever been given leave to do so, until you have no more wish for me."
Forever, then, Ardyn thought, and clung to it.
***
Noctis had little to offer Ardyn to help him adjust to the world, of course, children's dreams were hardly an accurate indicator of what the modern world was like. And he had no interest in Ardyn's work. Yet his presence was enough to make Ardyn forget how little they spoke of what he was doing, the reminder that there was still somebody who seemed to care for Ardyn outside of what he could do for them.
He never again commented on what Ardyn was accomplishing and maybe Ardyn let his guard down too much around him, because of that. Allowed too many plans to slip out that, while he knew Noctis wouldn't (couldn't) interfere, were best not told. Children might be fearful, after all, because of actions Ardyn took and that would make Noctis' master cross.
The sigh that Noctis gave over the latest plot seemed at odds with the youthful look he wore even in the real world, weary and ancient. "I will say this but once: Do not tempt the Draconian. If you step within Insomnia's limits and draw his ire, he will take from you that which you have left to lose."
Ardyn scoffed, wondering why Noctis would sound so upset over an empty threat. "I have nothing left for him to take," he stated, voice cold as he thought of Bahamut's tortures, as he thought of Aera's death and Somnus' betrayal. Unwritten even from history, what could he have?
But Noctis did not respond with comfort or compassion, as he might normally, instead as Ardyn watched his face closed off, displaying the unfeeling expression of a proper messenger. "Very well, Ardyn Lucis Caelum. You have your choice before you."
And then he was gone in the slightest waver of the shadows around him, leaving Ardyn frowning at the wall as Verstael stared at him. "What?" he demanded, scowling as Verstael only shook his head and he wondered what he could be missing.
He went to Insomnia, of course, despite the warning, to tamper with the Wall in prelude to an attack. It was close to fun, playing with the current King and Somnus' spirit, but of course Bahamut had to interrupt.
His mind dwelt on the prophecy whenever he could not keep his thoughts distracted. He waited for Noctis to appear so that he could push for more information, then waited for Noctis to appear at all. Months stretching into years, the longest he'd gone without Noctis' presence outside of Angelgard. His prayers unanswered no matter how fervently he gave them.
"You'll want to see this, I assume," Verstael said one inauspicious day, flopping a report down on his desk.
Ardyn looked it over with a sneer on his face--the newest of Somnus' descendants, most likely the "Chosen One" Bahamut thought would slay him.
Then he saw the rest of the file. The unmistakable blue of the eyes in all of the pictures...and the name.
Finally he realized why Noctis had reacted as he had: Now, whether he fought to win against the Astrals' new Chosen King or not, Noctis would die.
Ardyn had always had one more thing to lose.
XX
Original notes:
Carbuncle is called a messenger once in like one canon-y source, but I honestly like the idea of Carby being an Astral who humans just sort of overlook.
Just in case it's not obvious in the story/from the tags, Carbuncle assists Noctis in going back in time post-FFXV to help Ardyn.

“Ardyn Izunia: Powers and Origins”
Okay so, first of all: this is a post about a theory that’s been on my mind for a long time (I’ve talked about it before, and posted a bit of my thoughts on TW and I think here too) but that I hadn’t been able to finish writing as much completely as I wanted... and I know that it probably makes zero sense to upload my theory now, when Episode Ardyn has just come up online minutes ago where I live... but still, I like my theory and I had fun with it, so, well, there it goes!
Also: as I’m writing this the DLC is downloading and I want to avoid any risk of spoilers, so as soon as I upload this post I’ll retreat to play and just emerge to social media once I finish it.
May you all have a good time playing Episode Ardyn! <3
It’s no secret that Ardyn Izunia, Chancellor of Niflheim, oldest king of Lucis and former savior of those afflicted by the Starscourge, is the most powerful being of Eos. Not even the Astrals, the gods of Eos, can defeat him.
Such power, however, leaves many questions. And while some of them had been answered, there are still others that remain a mystery.
The main question is… why is Ardyn, and only him, able to absorb the Starscourge? It’s stated in the Official Works book that this is a “unique ability” of Ardyn, even though it says his clan had been given power by the gods, so… we can assume two things: either this ability isn’t god-given, or that if it was god-given there had to be a reason why only Ardyn could use it.
In the case that it was god-given (and since no one else had been given said ability), I think there’s a possibility that Ardyn would have been used as a container for the Starscourge unbeknownst to him, probably ordained by the prophecy, and that he didn’t know until he broke free of Angelgard. In theory, having a living “container” for the Starscourge, while very cruel, would’ve made things easier… except it all went wrong.
In the case that it wasn’t god-given, it’s either a special characteristic of Ardyn’s organism, or he somehow acquired it.
Another possibility (although less possible) could be, in the case that Ardyn was alive already by the time Solheim was still there, that he would’ve been experimented on. Given the fact that Ardyn seems to know a lot not only about daemons, but also about machinery from Solheim, and that Niflheim apparently advanced a lot in their experiments when he started “helping them” (for example developing the Wallbreaker Wave, a technology that can inhibit all the magic from the line of Lucis and enfeeble Astrals), I wouldn’t entirely rule out that possibility. Or that Ardyn had some contact with this kind of technology.
Any of the cases above could give reason as to why Ardyn can absorb the Starscourge, so let’s talk a bit about the rest of his abilities…
It’s easy to pinpoint the origin of the majority of Ardyn’s abilities, to categorize them as abilities that come from the Starscourge (like “shadowstepping”, infecting others with the Starscourge) or from the gods (the Armiger, and probably his “regular” healing abilities —that can either come from the gods or be a blessing of the Crystal—).
However… apart from being able to absorb the Starscourge, there’s something that Ardyn shouldn’t be able to perform, but that he can: summon the same kind of Wall that Regis maintained… without using the Ring of the Lucii.
Now, this is something weird and interesting, because the Starscourge can’t grant him that power, and neither can the Astrals. Only a king of Lucis can do this, using the Ring of the Lucii, which is what harnesses and channels the power of the Crystal. An extension of the Crystal.
And, while for some time I thought Ardyn may be able to copy abilities (and still, that’s a possible power of his), there’s no way he could’ve copied the Wall of the Citadel, since the effort of nearly all of the Astrals is needed to bring it down to grant access to Noctis and the others.
So, then… how can Ardyn do this?
Well… another thing that’s no secret, is all of the religious symbology of Final Fantasy XV (specially Christianity), and more specifically, surrounding Ardyn. From his way of dressing in the past and his artworks (a clear allegory to Jesus), his powers and role (the savior that travels healing others and teaching them), to his relationship with others and his destiny (Abel and Cain come to mind with him and his brother for example, and then there’s the fact that he’s fated to die in the end so that the world can be saved), and even one of his hobbies (wine), it’s clear what Square-Enix was aiming for with him.
Now… remember Episode Ignis? That fight in the “Verse 2”, in which you play as Ignis against Ardyn in the Keep of Zegnautus? There’s a moment in which Ardyn basically “mocks” Bahamut’s stance, making the weapons look like wings on his back.
And then, remember when Square-Enix answered in that Q&A video a question about his relationship with Bahamut? They basically said it was a secret, and laughed.
Well… Where am I going with this?
I think that Ardyn is of divine origin, which would go along with the Christian themes of the game.
My thoughts are that Ardyn’s either son of Bahamut, or that he could’ve been “born” from the Crystal. Being a son of Bahamut would further enhance that comparison between God and Jesus, but then again, he has powers that don’t really fit with Bahamut nor any other Astral, nor with the Starscourge. Another idea that’s been in my mind for a long time is that Ardyn could’ve either been born or become a Messenger, as well, but since we know so very little about the Messengers, so it’s much in the air.
Maybe I’m correct about something or maybe I’m not, but regardless of it, I had fun with the theory all along which is what matters (even if it pains me that I couldn’t bring myself to finish writing it properly, as early and detailed as I wanted —the original one, before Episode Ardyn: Prologue, was 5 pages long before even reaching half of the document, and I’d compiled there all the info I could about the Starscourge for example—), and if it’s not correct then I can always make an AU of it (?).

Read under the cut or on the link :)
Noctis is almost asleep when he hears a familiar squeak.  He yawns and grabs his phone, unlocking it and checking the text.
‘He's cute (ᗒᗨᗕ)’
“Both of them are.” Noctis mutters back.
Noctis smiles and looks around for the familiar furry face and finds Carbuncle on the floor, legs too tiny to get him on the bed.
The Prince slowly and carefully frees his arm from around Prompto before carefully helping the tiny fennec fox up onto the bed.
He gets an emoji with heart eyes in response and chuckles quietly.
“Not dating.” Noctis mutters, another message coming through his phone.
‘Shame (╥_╥)’
‘Baby's cute though (* >ω<)’
Noctis nods and gently rubs Solis’ back.
“I feel like I'm texting Iris and not a magic messenger.”
‘Rude ( ︶︿︶)_╭∩╮’
Noctis makes the most inhuman sound a person can ever make at the reply, Ignis even gives him a weird look for that. Gladio meanwhile tries not to laugh.
Noctis chooses to ignore them and reply to Carbuncle instead.
“What the fuck...You actually flipped me off.” He whispers.
‘(◕‿◕✿)’
“...You're a little shit. You know that.”
Noctis sighs and reaches out to touch him. Carbuncle carefully walks closer and sniffs Solis. Solis doesn't even stir.
‘(T⌓T) He's sick
“He's got a cold.” Noctis replies, sighing. “Hopefully he'll be alright in a few days.”
‘(╯°▽°)╯ ┻━┻ it's not fair!’
“Yep exactly.”
‘He's brave.’
“He is?”
‘He crawled over and pet me. When you first met me as a baby, you wailed.’
Noctis blushes and groans. “He takes after Prompto then, rushing off to pet soft animals.”
Carbuncle gently nuzzles Solis and Noctis gently scratches behind Carbuncle’s ear. He yawns and Carbuncle copies him moments later.
Solis slowly wakes up with a tiny yawn. He sniffles, blinking sleepily before he notices Carbuncle. Solis stares and grabs at the fennec fox with a tiny coo. He sneezes and whines before grabbing onto Carbuncle’s ear.
Noctis stares, mouth open slightly as he does. Solis can see Carbuncle. Just like he can. Honestly he doesn’t know if he should feel stressed by this or relieved.
“...I didn’t actually tell you his name.”
‘Nope!’
“Solis.” he replies and glances at his son. “And that’s Carbuncle….You’ll probably not be able to remember that or pronounce that for a while...So Carby for now...And you probably have no idea what I’m saying.”
Solis whines and clings to Noctis with one hand and Carbuncle’s ear with the other. He lets out an excited shriek before he starts coughing, Noctis carefully rubs his back and gently kisses his head.
‘Fatherhood suits you (* >ω<)’
Noctis smiles softly and glances at Solis.
“He’s a little ray of sunshine.”
‘(ᗒᗨᗕ) So pure.’
“Mmm?” a familiar voice groggily speaks up next to him and Carbuncle disappears much to Solis’ dislike as he whines about it.
Prompto yawns and gently reaches up, stroking Solis’ cheek.
“How’s my little soybean?” he yawns as Noctis huffs.
“No bean names.” he grumbles and Prompto tiredly smirks. “He’s not been awake long. Still has a cold.”
Prompto leans up, planting a kiss on Solis’ cheek. “My poor sunbeam.”
Solis whines and the boys attempt to soothe him.
* * *
A week later thankfully the cold is gone and everyone is relieved. Solis had cried a lot during his cold, it had been stressful and honestly heartbreaking at times to see him so miserable but now he was back to normal.
Noctis has put him in a little grey baby grow with “Ready player 3.” wrote across it, controller at the side, along with little cartoon chocobo face socks. Prompto claimed to have died the moment he saw it, the “I saw a cute thing” voice coming out the moment he saw Solis.
Ignis told them about a festival in Altissia, the chocobo moogle festival he’d heard about and Prompto almost yells about having to go as soon as possible. Solis squeals just happy to contribute to the conversation in his own little way.
Noctis looks like he’s not fully awake yet. He’s yawned about four times now, scratched at his stomach/happy trail which Prompto almost short circuited over and complained about the sun asking if it could turn the brightness down.
Ignis actually chuckled and agreed it would be a nice break for them all. Gladio asks if Iris can tag along and Ignis smiles.
“It would be a delight to have her.” the advisor says and Gladio shoots her a text. He gains a reply moments later of keysmashes and crying emojis. He takes that as a positive response.
“She’ll be here in five.” the shield replies, Noctis catches sight of the text and looks confused.
“You understood that?” he asks with a yawn.
“I’ve seen enough of it from Prompto.” Gladio replies.
“Hey! Check the internet, people do it.” Prompto huffs.
“Some of the lgbt youth online do it Gladio. I don’t actually know why.” Ignis says.
“...Iggy you’re twenty two, I’m twenty three. We’re all “youth.” still.” Gladio says putting an arm around him.
Ignis leans into it and rubs an one of his eyes. “I mean younger than us Gladio.”
“Small, bi and ready to try at your service.” Prompto replies, standing up straight. He’d salute if he wasn’t holding his precious sunbeam.
“Small, gay and ready to decay. It’s 6am, I’m practically a zombie.” Noctis mutters. “Small, ace and wielding a mace can work occasionally  too.”
Gladio snorts and rolls his eyes and Ignis sighs.
“Neither of you are small.” Ignis huffs.
* * *
Iris comes in with her luggage and a smile on her face.
She wore a black short sleeved shirt with red roses on it,some rounded sunglasses over her eyes, black shorts and knee high cat socks with her regular boots.
The boys are wearing more casual outfits too. Noctis is the only one wearing his chocobo moogle festival outfit since he’s the only one who has one. Gladio meanwhile has decided today is a shirtless kind of day much to the complaints of Prompto, Noctis and Iris.
She asks if she can get a t-shirt from the festival when they get there and Gladio replies with a simple “We’ll see.” He’ll probably get her one.
Ignis during this decides to pull out his phone and check the weather forecast for the day.
The forecast apparently is set to be a nice hot day. Clear skies and warm temperatures until the evening. Perfect day for a trip.
* * *
They’d packed up and checked out by 7, finally reached Galdin by 9 and quickly headed down to the docks, heading up onto the royal vessel.
Iris stared up at the boat, slowly pushing her shades up onto her head. She wasn’t sure if she’d ever been on a boat before, she moves to step on before Prompto yells, causing her to freeze.
“Wait!” Prompto yells, handing Noctis baby Solis and rushing off leaving everyone except Solis confused.
Solis seems more focused on a seagull flying around. He flails in Noctis’ arms until Gladio speaks up.
Iris unfreezes and glances over, pulling her shades back down and heading over to Ignis.
“He’s starin’ at a seagull, I think he wants you to too. Or he has no idea what it is.” Gladio says.
Noctis looks confused until he spots it, and gently bounces on his feet with Solis in his arms.
“It’s a seagull. Smaller than the other bird at the hotel. Way smaller. These just steal food if they can.”
“One tried stealing my ice cream when I was five.” Iris chirps in.
“I saw one steal chips from a store online.’” Gladio adds making Noctis look back at him sceptical.
“It’s surprisingly real.” Ignis chirps in causing Noctis to whistle.
“Wow.”
Solis bleps, getting a little squirmy in Noctis’ arms.
“Should we go hunt for Prom?”
“Relax. Kid’s probably taking a piss.” Gladio mutters.
“Gladdy!” Iris cries.
“Gladiolus!” Ignis huffs.
“...What?”
“Oh shit! He brought out the first name.” Noctis says with a smirk.
“Noctis!” Ignis huffs. “Infant present. I would prefer you both either watch  your language and not be crass or cover his ears.”
“To be honest I think he’s staring at the tourists...Or like five seconds from needing a change.”
Iris glances over. “Nope...He’s definitely staring.”
* * *
Prompto rushes back five minutes later, tripping up over his own feet on the dock. Luckily Gladio grabs his arm and heaves him up before he faceplants. He blushes and thanks Gladio.
The blonde has a very tiny hat, it seems to have a blue band around it filled with doodles of cartoony fish along with a bottle in his pants pocket.
Iris coos at how cute and small the hat is.
“All they had was fish themed hats.” Prompto says, carefully putting the hat on Solis’ head. “There we go~ Protect you a little from the sun...I got him sunscreen but...Um do we have sunscreen for us?”
“We have some stocked on the boat..” Ignis states and lets Noctis lead the way onto the boat but Noctis lets Iris on first before following her on.
“This is gonna be Sol’s first boat ride.” Gladio says and Prompto in front of him gasps.
“...Do people celebrate that? Would it be weird if I celebrated that?”
“You got excited about his first hotel stay.” Gladio adds. “So maybe not?”
“I’m celebrating it then~” Prompto replies planting a kiss on Solis’ hat.
Solis clings to Prompto and attempts to take off a sock. Noctis heads over and carefully stops him, he boops Solis on the nose and Solis grabs for him.
Prompto smiles and carefully hands Solis over to Noctis. Solis makes a happy squeal loud enough for the rest on the boat to hear him. He earns some smiles and awws from Iris and Prompto.
* * *
Noctis hands Solis back to Prompto so he can steer the boat.
Prompto seems happy enough to sit Solis on his lap and hold him close. Solis meanwhile seems fascinated by Prompto’s glove, he stares at it and attempts to grip onto said glove.
Ignis was sat next to Iris, the duo surprisingly drifting off during their journey and Gladio was reading.
Solis gets whiny the longer they stay on the sea and Prompto decides to lie down on the surprisingly comfortable sofas with Solis. The duo yawn and end up napping together.
Gladio throws a blanket over the sofa to shield them from the sun or try to and neither of the pair stir from this, maybe 6am was too early of a start for them.
Gladio hears Noctis yawn from the captain’s seat and heads in.
“Hey princess.”
“Hey.” Noctis blinks tiredly and glances over at him before his eyes return to the sea.
“Tired?” Gladio asks and Noctis nods.
“I was on baby duty last night. Prom’s stomach was acting up so he slept it off.” Noctis yawns and Gladio places his hand on his shoulder. “Alright stop the boat. Someone else is taking over.”
Noctis doesn’t even protest, he brings the boat to a stop and rubs at his eyes. “...Controls are pretty easy.” he mutters as Gladio scoops him up out of the seat and carries him back to the others.
He’s pretty much asleep in Gladio’s arms by the time Gladio realises there’s nowhere for the prince to lie other than the floor.
So for now he gets put there, near Prompto’s little sofa while Gladio decides to take over controlling the boat, he’s swiftly banned from continuing the moment Ignis wakes up.
Noctis after that is placed where Ignis was. He naps the rest of the trip near Iris.
* * *
They splash out for a more expensive room, they’re on the rare occasion allowed to nap due to the long boat trip and the fact they have a few hours until the festival.
Ignis decides instead to leave the room and browse the sights with Gladio and Iris in tow. Prompto is sure Iris only went to give him, Noctis and Solis some alone time.
Noctis sits on the bed, taking off his boots and putting them at the side of the bed before lying down on said bed.
Prompto smiles at the sight and heads over with Solis in his arms. He bites his lip before speaking up.
“Can you take Sol for a sec?”
Noctis sits up and carefully takes Solis from Prompto. Solis whines and Prompto feels guilty so much so he attempts to explain himself to the baby.
“I’ll be back like super quick ok? Just stay with Noct ok?” Prompto says, planting a kiss on Solis’ head. “Be good for daddy ok?”
Noctis blushes a little and gently soothes their son who honestly doesn’t understand any of this. Prompto is going to kill him one day. He’s only making the crush he has on him much worse at this point.
“You forgot to go pi-Pee before we left huh?” Noctis asks earning a whine from his best friend in the process.
“I thought I could hold it! But I’m dying.” he whines at the Prince who snorts a little. “Go on. We’ll be ok.”
Solis looks at Prompto and whines and Prompto looks conflicted as he heads into the bathroom.
Solis wails and Noctis hears a heartbroken cry of “I’m sorry!” practically yelled from the bathroom.
Noctis tries to get Solis’ attention, trying to distract him until Prompto returns.  He hums to him and gently rubs his back and when that fails, he sings which gets Solis’ attention immediately. It’s something from anime but Solis doesn’t know that.
He smiles when Solis calms down and hears the bathroom door open moments later, a flustered blonde quickly coming out.
“Papa’s here buddy don’t wo-” he pauses and looks over at Solis and Noctis, mouth slightly open. “You’re a baby whisperer too huh?” he mutters.
“He likes singing.” Noctis replies, smiling before sitting up. “Can you take him back for a second? I have to pi-”
“Sure!” Prompto interrupts and blushes, apologising before taking Solis back and sitting on the bed with him.  “You think your dad would have had a bathroom on that boat.”
Noctis gets up and agrees, heading over to the bathroom, opening the door but pausing when Prompto speaks again.
“Blue Exorcist.” the blonde mutters.
“Huh?”
“You were singing something from Blue Exorcist to him.”
“...Oh yeah? What one?” Noctis replies with a smirk. No point in denying it.
“Itteki no Eikyou.” Prompto replies, sticking his tongue out. “We're a magical girl and boy anime house only mister.”
Noctis laughs a little and rolls his eyes before heading into the bathroom. “Like you’ve ever watched one.”
“Hey! I’ve watched-”
“Other than Sailor Moon.” Noctis replies from behind the door.
Prompto covers Solis’ ears before Noctis hears him clearly say “Fuck you.” with a snort which makes Noctis laugh.
* * *
Solis wailed again. It was a fairly short cry as Prompto decided to finish the anime song Noctis previously sang to the baby.
The song seemed to calm Solis and Prompto was so focused on soothing Solis with the song he almost missed Noctis come out of the bathroom.
“You finished the song?” Noctis asks, startling Prompto.
“Dude! Warn a guy first.” Prompto gasps and then makes a sound of confirmation to his question.
Noctis heads over and Prompto scoots up before lying down with Solis. Solis seems happy when Noctis lies next to them. He yawns and smiles a toothless smile.
“Hey sunshine.” Noctis mutters to him and he’s rewarded with their baby flailing. To Noctis it looks like an attempt at dancing honestly. It’s weirdly cute.
Prompting laughs quietly and carefully puts Solis between them. The baby sneezes and looks like an Anak in the headlights, prompting Prompto to blow a raspberry at him wondering how he'll react.
Solis jumps and stares up at Prompto looking utterly confused or as confused as a baby could look.
Prompto blows another raspberry at Solis and Solis rewards him with a burp.
“Nice.” Prompto mutters with a snort making Noctis laugh.
* * *
They undress Solis down to his nappy due to the room being a little warm and worrying the baby might overheat. Said baby attempts to crawl off in the process but the duo manage to keep him in one spot.
Then they decide to undress down themselves to just their boxers. They leave a balcony door open for a breeze, too lazy to put air conditioning on before napping together for a few hours, Solis safely in Prompto's arms.
* * *
Prompto awakes to cooing and yawns, carefully sitting up and gently holding Solis close. Solis naps peacefully, Prompto smiles and kisses his head.
Prompto spots Iris and the boys in the room and yawns wide. Iris at that point notices he's awake and rushes over, not phased by him and Noctis being half naked.
“I got you guys something.” she says with a smile and Prompto feels a chill from the breeze. He seems confused before glancing down and panicking, looking back at Iris with a look of embarrassment on his face.
“Y-You did?...Um...Can I just wake him up and we'll um look more...Presentable?” he nervously asks and Iris laughs a little.
“Sure! Do you want me to take Solis?” she asks and Prompto nods, carefully handing the sleeping baby over.
“H-He'll wake up pretty soon. He's due a feed.” Prompto stutters before elbowing Noctis when Iris heads over to Ignis and Gladio. “Dude wake up!” Prompto whisper yells to the Prince.
Noctis doesn't react.
* * *
It takes several attempts but Prompto manages to wake up Noctis and the duo quickly get re dressed.
The duo head over to the kitchen  where Ignis has set out some sandwiches for the group. Prompto smiles and the duo thank him, grabbing a sandwich each before Iris comes over with Solis.
Solis seems fascinated by her hair, attempting to reach while he clings to her shirt with his other hand.
“Hi buddy~” Prompto coos after he takes his first bite.
Noctis wiggles his fingers at Solis who giggles a little, Prompto nearly chokes over it so much Noctis thumps his back.
“T-That almost k-killed me.” Prompto gasps. “Cuteness overload.”
Noctis rolls his eyes and smiles at Solis. “That's Prompto speak for he's ok just being dramatic.” he mutters to Solis with a smirk, he laughs when he hears a dramatic gasp from Prompto.
“How dare you.” he says in his sassy voice, pulling a face and making Solis giggle harder than before, making Prompto and Noctis start laughing too. “Oh em gee, adorbs.” he mutters, Noctis making a noise of agreement around his sandwich as he takes a bite.
“Gladdy?” Iris looks over at her brother who's currently half way through his second sandwich.
“What?” he asks, mouth full to which Ignis sighs at.
“Can you take this little cutie?” she coos at the baby and Gladio carefully takes him.
Solis clings to him as Iris rushes off, quickly returning with a few bags. She thrusts the tiniest one at Prompto.
“It's for Solis but I got ones for you guys too.” she says with a smile. “I hope you like them.”
Prompto quickly finishes his sandwich and fishes in the little bag. He's weirdly excited as he carefully pulls out a tiny Moogle onesie.
His eyes light up as he looks at it. There's a little hood, with a tiny pom-pom antenna and little purple wings. It's adorable and he can't wait to put Solis in it.
Noctis stares, zoning out trying to imagine the baby in his little onesie. Maybe they can put him in it later, he’ll probably gain a new home screen on his mobile from it.
“Wait...We have ones too?” Noctis asks moments later.
Iris nods and grins, pulling one out identical to Solis’ but adult sized.  Prompto gasps and looks over at Noctis.
“Dude we have to.” he mutters and Noctis can't bring himself to say no.
“Later. After the festival.”  Noctis mutters. “Just no pictures of me.”
Prompto pouts but agrees as he holds his onesie. He smiles at Iris and gives her a hug or a side hug.
“Send me pics later of them.” she whispers to Prompto.
“Will do.” he whispers back.
* * *
They all head out later for the festival, Noctis carrying Solis while Prompto has the nappy bag across his shoulder along with his camera in hand.
The group part ways. Ignis heading off with Gladio and Iris. The duo seemed rather content to be around each other and Iris seemed happy enough to be around that even if her brother had his arm around the chef’s waist.
Prompto meanwhile walked around with Noctis and Solis, practically beaming when someone commented on how cute their son was. Noctis being Noctis had no idea how to respond to such so he awkwardly thanked people and agreed with them.
Solis just sat in the baby carrier on his dad's chest and was plain adorable. The usual honestly. Until they had to take a detour and go hunt for a bathroom to change him. He was grumpy at that time and rightfully so.
The trio after that continued to roam around the festival, Noctis explaining what happened last time he came and watching Prompto's eyes light up. He didn't miss the slightly betrayed look Prompto gave him when chocobo chicks was brought up.
They fell into a comfortable silence after that which only lasted for a few moments before Prompto spoke up again.
“...Do you think Gladio and Iggy seemed glad to like abandon us?” he asks and Noctis sighs before nodding.
“Gladio put his arm around Iggy, Prom.” Noctis replied. “So yeah.”
“Oh em gee! I thought I was seeing things!” Prompto gasps.
“Nope. Totally had his arm around him.” Noctis replies popping the p.  He smirks a little.
“...You think they're…”
“Dating?” Noctis asks and Prompto nods. “They've been close for years. Wouldn't surprise me.”
Prompto grins and pulls out his phone. “I'm totally asking them...What if they're married?”
“Prom, neither have rings.”
“Maybe they're allergic.”
“I think we'd know if they was.” Noctis adds.
Prompto gestures to the baby and his ears, Noctis catching on quickly and covering Solis’ ears much to the baby's dislike.
“...Suddenly all the fuck eyes make sense.” Prompto mutters and Noctis wheezes.
“...What?”  he asks trying not to laugh.
“I'd see them like giving each other bedroom eyes sometimes. Usually when they thought we was asleep or like busy. At first I thought it was just a weird staring contest”
“Gods if they've been keeping a relationship a secret from me I'll be pissed.” Noctis replies. “Like it's not a big deal but I figure they'd like tell us.”
Prompto pouts and agree.
“Anyway let's enjoy the festival.” Noctis says  leading the way. Prompto nods and follows him.
* * *
The trio explore, wandering around as Prompto takes pictures of the sights.
They walk around for a while before Prompto carefully pulls Noctis to a stop, bouncing on his feet a little as he does.
“Hey...I gotta go…” he mutters and Noctis gestures to a nearby bathroom with his head.
“There's one over there Prom.”
Prompto sighs with relief and rushes off.
“Bee are bee!” Prompto yells as he practically sprints off.
Noctis watches him with a smile before looking down at Solis.
“That's your father right there. He's a nerd but I love him..He's my nerd.” Noctis mutters to his baby son. “..Least you can't tell him I said that.”
Solis sneezes and whines, Noctis mutters comfort to him before the duo fall silent as the wait for Prompto. Solis flails on occasion which Noctis finds cute honestly.
He zones out, focusing on the baby. He smiles and gently runs a hand through feathery blonde baby hair. He's so out of it, he misses the mascot coming closer.
He hears a familiar caw and tenses up, eyes widening in fear. Noctis glances up his fears confirmed when he sees Kenny Crow.  He freezes honestly, breaking out in a cold sweat.
“Don't come closer. Don't come closer.” Noctis mutters to himself.
Solis wiggles in the baby carrier on Noctis’ chest. He grumbles and frowns. Noctis can't comfort him, too frozen as he stares at Kenny Crow.
Solis continues to frown and wiggle and Noctis comes to realise this is how Solis expresses anger. Wiggles.  Anger wiggles he calls it in his mind.
The baby continues his anger wiggles which in turn makes Kenny come over not realising what the wiggles mean. Noctis feels sick honestly.
The mascot attempts to talk to the terrified Prince and the baby, unaware he's the source of the Prince's fear.
“Noct?”  a familiar friendly voice speaks up before the person heads over. Prompto. He looks at Noctis, noticing how terrified he looks.
He notices Kenny and it all makes sense.  He also notices that Solis has stopped wiggling but he's managed to notice Kenny. The baby stares looking terrified before he wails loudly and Prompto realises at that point he has to be the knight in shining armour.
He apologises to Kenny Crow and quickly takes Noctis and Solis says far away from the mascot. Far enough for the duo to relax and calm down.
He carefully leads them to a table outside of a food joint and sighs.
“I'm sorry.” Prompto says.
“Why? You got us away from that daemon.” Noctis mutters. “I should be thanking you.”
Prompto smiles softly offering a hand to Noctis to hold. “Don't thank me. My boys was scared, I was just taking you both out of that.”
Noctis grabs his hand and squeezes it. “Can we sit here for a few seconds?”
Prompto nods and looks at Solis.
“It sucks he got scared.”
“Fear is a normal response to Kenny.” Noctis mutters and Prompto smirks.
“I like him.”
“You like birds.” Noctis replies.  “That's why.”
Prompto smiles and sighs.
“I just don't find him scary.” Prompto says, rubbing his thumb against Noctis’ hand. “I'll protect you both from him. Don't worry.”
Noctis smiles softly.
“Thanks.”
* * *
Noctis bottle feeds Solis while they sit there, Solis suckles greedily which prompts Prompto to speak up.
“Dude he'll get gas if you let him suckle so quick. He'll be uncomfortable.”
Noctis repositions Solis and adjusts the bottle, Solis suckles slower much to Noctis and Prompto’s relief.
“There's a Chocobo mascot wandering around. I think you'll like it if you're fine with dancing a Chocobo dance in front of people.”
Prompto blushes but looks excited. Noctis can see a spark in his eyes.
“We'll go find them after I burp him.” Noctis adds, laughing to himself as Prompto does his adorable little victory tune.
* * *
It takes longer than expected to burp Solis. Noctis wonders if the baby is dragging the waiting around process out or if said baby is having a difficult time.
Unfortunately Solis throws up a little during the process. Noctis’ face draining of colour the moment he gets baby vomit on his sleeve.
“Prom..We have an issue here.” Noctis speaks up and Prompto quickly rummages in the nappy bag, pulling out baby wipes.
He winces and opens the pack, carefully heading over and wiping Noctis’ sleeve and Solis’ mouth with wet wipes.
“He’s not sick right?” Prompto asks and Noctis shakes his head.
“He’s not fussing...Still want to see that mascot?”
Prompto practically beams and nods, rushing off the moment Noctis stands. The royal smiles as he watches him and then glances down at Solis who flails excitedly.
“He makes it hard not to get excited huh?” he mutters to his son who squeals in response. Noctis laughs and follows the direction Prompto went.
* * *
They catch up fairly quickly, Prompto having decided to wait for them and the small family head down to the Chocobo mascot.
Prompto beams when said mascot notices them, he beams a little more when the Chocobo mascot waves at them.
Prompto gets called over to do the dance and honestly Noctis has never seen someone so excited.
Solis flails a little as he stares at the sight, he seems fascinated, he squeals and giggles when the dance starts and gets more vocal than he has been before when Prompto copies the dance.
Noctis likes to think that this is a baby version of cheering Prompto on that or Solis is just making noises because he doesn’t know how to deal with emotions. He snaps a few photos off Prompto’s camera, Solis attempting to grab the camera from his little baby carrier.
The mascot hugs Prompto who returns it eagerly and the trio are on their way waving the mascot bye. Or Prompto is, Noctis just says bye awkwardly and prays the mascot wasn’t the same person from his visit previously.
Up next they head to the chocobo races. Noctis deciding his knight in shining armour deserves another treat.
“You sure you don’t want a go?” Prompto asks.
“Nah I’ll stay on baby duty.” Noctis replies. Plus his back is aching a little and last thing he wants is to annoy it further.
Prompto asks if he’s sure it’s ok he just goes and Noctis nods.
“Just go have fun.” he says with a smile , glancing down at Solis who’s looking at one of the nearby Chocobos. He’s not completely sure of the adult ones yet.
Noctis strokes his soft blonde baby hair and smiles making his way over to the course to cheer on Prompto as he’s lead away to pick a Chocobo.
* * *
Prompto had sped through the course in lightning time. Noctis is sure he beat his score from the last time but all that is forgotten the moment he sees Prompto’s bright smile.
Prompto coos over the race Chocobo, giving her a scritch and little cuddle before bidding her goodbye as he hands her back to her owner.
“How was it?” Noctis asks, already knowing the answer.
“Amazing! Noct she’s two and her name is Butterscotch and I would die for her.” the gunner cries.
“Don’t die, I need you for this parenting deal.”
Prompto blushes and smiles.
“No plan to.” he says, biting his lip. “Now let’s go to the prize counter!”
* * *
They get back into their hotel room at seven pm. The baby carrier is quickly removed from Noctis’ chest the moment Solis is out of it with a sigh of relief.
Solis is placed into a cot before Prompto and Noctis begin to undress.  Prompto without hesitation slips into the moogle onesie Iris got him.
“Aah~ Dude it’s so soft and warm~” he gasps and that’s enough to make Noctis change into his.
Prompto grins and grabs his phone, flicking on his camera app.
“Say Kupo!” he says with a grin, he puts an arm around Noct and the prince reluctantly says it as Prompto takes the photo, then sends the selfie to Iris.
After that they quickly change Solis before dressing him in his moogle onesie too. The duo freeze for a second before Prompto takes many photos, some going to Iris.
“Hey can you send one to me? I want one as my lockscreen.” Noctis asks.
Prompto smiles and quickly sends a couple for him to choose from.
* * *
They end up ordering room service. Ignis will kill them when he finds out they’re sure but for now it’s a good idea to have ice cream and catch a film on the hotel room’s tv.
Prompto snuggles up to Noctis’ side and Noctis puts an arm around him to get a little more comfortable. He tells himself it’s fine and Prompto looks comfortable and content at his side so he shouldn’t worry.
Prompto’s texting on the advert break. He’s texting Iris and gushing over the baby with her, among other things.
“She’s calling us old for being in bed at seven.” Prompto mutters.
“Tell her we’re only five years older than her.”
Prompto texts back and stretches against Noctis.
“Should I ask about Gladnis?”
“Glad...Nis?” Noctis asks, confused.
“Yeah...Like a couple name. People combine names together.”  Prompto replies.
“Oh that explains some stuff...Yeah ask.”
Prompto grins and texts back, gasping moments later.
“...What? What is it?” Noctis asks.
“...They’ve been dating since they was in high school.”
“What the fuck...How did I not know?”
“Iris says we’re just oblivious.”
Noctis huffs and carefully gets up, Prompto whines and reaches out for him.
“Noo you were comfy.” he huffs before pouting.
Noctis rolls his eyes and smiles.
“I’ll forgot something. I'll be back.” he says heading over to Solis’ cot. Said baby is wiggling around with a frown. “He’s angry.”
“How do you know?” Prompto asks.
“He wiggles and frowns.” Noctis says reaching over to open a drawer on the nightstand.
Prompto gasps and quickly heads over, he laughs a little at the sight and gently strokes Solis’ cheek.
“Dude...This is adorable.” he mutters. “Gods...Noct he’s too cute.”
Noctis smiles and agrees, pulling out the little Carbuncle statue from the drawer and placing it in Solis’ cot.
“Don’t be too grumpy for Carbuncle ok? He’ll let me know how you were.” Noctis mutters and plants a kiss on Solis’ head.
“Yeah be nice to….Carbuncle???? Why haven’t I seen him?” Prompto mutters, planting a kiss on Solis’ head. The kisses seemed to have quelled the baby’s anger who currently is staring at the statue.
“He’s only appeared to me and Solis. I don’t know why he likes making me look crazy by showing up on photos and not letting others see him.”
“Do they like each other?” Prompto asks.
Noctis nods and smiles. “He made it clear he thinks Sol is cute.”
Prompto beams and looks down at Solis. He holds onto the cot looking at their son, who’s staring up at him sleepily.
“Sleep. You’ll be sleepy and cranky if you don’t.” Prompto mutters.
“Also Carby’s waiting for you.” Noctis adds. Solis coos and yawns, Noctis strokes his cheek. “Yeah he’s waiting.”
Solis drifts off soon after, Prompto and Noctis heading back to curl up on the bed and watch their film. They return to their snuggling position and quietly talk to each other once it ends and a new one starts.
They might end up having a film marathon for hours. It extends past when Gladio, Ignis and Iris return at ten and even well past when the trio call it a night.
The boys are sleepy come the fifth or sixth film. They’ve lost count how many have played. They’re honestly blending together at this point plus they’re kind of stuffed due to the fact they ordered a large pizza and shared it together.
Prompto at this point is sluggishly pressed against Noctis and the royal is on his back, occasionally rubbing his stomach just as sluggish.
Prompto blinks slowly. He yawns and grunts. He wonders if the pizza was too much. Prompto hears a yawn right next to him and decides at that point film night is probably drawing to a close.
Neither have the time to turn the TV off. They just attempt to get comfortable and snuggle more against each other. Prompto’s almost asleep when he feels a kiss against his head. He drifts off with a smile on his face.

Prompto flipped his camera around so he could show everyone his favorite pics from that day. He’d spent almost an hour in the Regalia flipping through dozens of pictures until he’d weeded out all but the best; he needed to save space on his SD card, after all.
Scrolling proudly through the pictures one by one, Prompto grinned widely as his friends provided commentary on all of the particularly memorable moments, including some shots of a daemon in the distance he’d been able to zoom in on. It wasn't exactly well lit, but the eerie glow given off by the Ice Bombs made it more than a little spooky. If they weren't on the run from the Empire, Prompto probably would have posted it online, it was so cool.
A few photos later, not even halfway through his collection, he got to the one pic of Iggy he’d convinced his older friend to pose for; to his disappointment, the lighting hadn't been the best with the new filter he was trying out, but he still wanted his friends opinions on the new filter.
Beside him, Noctis suddenly gasped as he saw the photo. “What.. again? HOW?”
Nonplussed at the exclamation, Prompto side-eyed his friend, knowing the new filter wasn't enough to warrant such a reaction, and that Noctis had actually done this a few times, usually waving it off without an explanation. “What?”
Noctis shook his head, looking as confused as Prompto felt. “No, no, it’s nothing.... just my imagination...?”
But Prompto wasn't going to let it go this time.
“No, seriously dude, what is it? You keep doing this whenever I show you pictures. Look, iIve even started bookmarking the ones you act so weird about!”
And here, Prompto bookmarked the current pic and backed out to the homescreen. Selecting the folder named ‘Noct-is-weird’, he pulled up at least twenty photos and shoved the camera at Noctis’ face, watching as his friend’s eyes widened.
“See! There you go again! What’s so weird about my pictures?” Prompto demanded; every time he scrutinized the photos, he could see nothing out of place, other than that they all seemed to share the theme of his subject being in almost the exact center of the frame; most of these were staged photos, where he’d asked his friends to pose certain ways or under certain lighting, but he could see nothing especially odd about it.
Noctis’ hands were shaking as he finally put his finger on the camera screen, and said, “Right there. Can you see him?”
Prompto ducked his head around so he could see where Noctis was pointing without moving the camera so much. He squinted, but all he saw was sidewalk. “Nope. See who?”
Noctis frowned, looking a little nervous. “...Carbuncle.”
Prompto spluttered out a surprised laugh, but snapped his mouth shut a second later as he regained control. That was a really shitty thing to laugh at, all things considered. “Wait, you mean that little fox guy you said you dreamed about when you were in a coma as a kid?”
Prompto had just thought it was Noctis’ imaginary friend. Lots of kids had them, but Noctis had treasured the memory of his ‘friend’ well into adulthood, and kept the little figurine with him wherever he went, safe in the front left pocket of literally every single pair of pants he wore. Prompto knew this, because Noctis religiously switched it out every time he changed clothes, and could often be spotted patting his pocket to make sure it was still safe, like a security blanket.
“Yeah,” Noctis said defensively, riled slightly by Prompto’s laughter. Prompto felt even worse for his knee-jerk reaction. “He’s right there,” Noctis flipped to the next photo, and pointed to another portion of the screen, “And there,” flipped to the next photo, “And right there. He’s literally in all of these pictures,  and apparently none of you can see him-- even though you guys can see Gentiana just fine!”
That was a good point, Prompto had to concede. The Messenger woman liked to show up on film when they knew for a fact that she had been nowhere (visibly) near when the pictures were taken. It was extremely creepy, to know that they had a Messenger of the gods stalking their every move, even if some of the pictures were unintentionally hilarious from some of the angles. “Okay, good point, but like you said, all of us can see Gentiana in the pics. Why would you be the only one to see Carbuncle in my pics?”
Noctis shrugged, looking frustrated. “I don’t know. But if I was imagining it, why would I see him in multiple pictures? Especially ones that don’t have good lighting or backgrounds he doesn’t blend in with at all. If I was just seeing shapes that look like him, you guys could probably see him too, once I pointed it out. But this isn’t like cloud-watching or constellations-- Carbuncle is literally sitting right next to Ignis in this picture, floating off to the side, but only I can see him.”
“Well, you’re the only royal here, maybe it’s part of your bloodline?” Prompto offered, and only realized he’d put his foot in his mouth after he said it. Why on eos did he think it was a good idea to so casually remind Noct his only remaining family was dead?
Noctis flinched a little bit, and looked away. “Maybe,” He said, voice quiet as his voice shook a bit, “Maybe.”

Noctluna Week Day #2 - Noctis’ Birthday
Fandom: Final Fantasy XV Title: The Best of Presents NOCTLUNA WEEK DAY #2 Rating: G Genre: Romance Summary: It’s Noctis’ birthday coming up, and his fiancee Lunafreya has arranged the best of surprises
Dearest Noctis,
Umbra will probably be early with this, but Happy Birthday! I've managed to arrange for something special for you this year, so I hope you look forward to it! It will arrive on the day! So because of that, I will keep this note short, but I could hardly neglect to wish you well in our notebook. After all, this is where we keep our treasured memories. I love you, my sweet prince, and I hope we can be together soon.
Sincerely Yours Forever
Luna
Noctis smiled at the page in the notebook, his hand lightly touching a large sticker of a cartoon chocobo holding a birthday cake. There was a faint blush to his cheeks at the affection, and his chest felt tight and warm with emotion. He wished he could see her, spend the day with her, but she was so busy with healer's training and managing the town around Fenestala Manor while her mother traveled, that she just so rarely had the time to make it out there.
He had his own responsibilities and trainings keeping him in Insomnia most of the time as well, but he wondered if perhaps he could arrange a trip soon. After all, her birthday came so soon after his. Shaking his head with a chuckle, he set that thought aside for later in the day, and he closed up the notebook to look down at the patient Messenger. "Thank you, Umbra. I'll write back tomorrow night, after all the birthday celebrations are done. Sound good?" He gave a soft bark, and Noctis rubbed his head affectionately, "Thanks. Safe travels, and, tell Luna, I'll find a way to see her soon." Umbra wagged his tail and let out another quiet bark before he trotted away and left Noct alone in his apartment.
Leaning back in his large arm chair, he stretched his arms above his head and yawned without reservation. "Guess I should turn in early. Birthdays are always so busy...," he mumbled to the ceiling, and let out a quiet sigh. He really did wish he could spend the day with his fiancee, but that probably wouldn't be able to happen with any guarantees until they were married and living together. And even then, their duties hardly care what time of the year it was, though if he could spend every day with her, then the 'special' days didn't matter as much. Any day with her was special in its own right.
He laughed at himself and how sappy he was being even as his heart hurt from missing her. It had been too long. Standing up, he set out to turn off the lights and clean up for bed, trying to push his loneliness out of mind so that he could get some decent rest.
She was there in his dreams, as she usually was. Simply spending time together, she sat close beside him, and they talked about their hopes and their fears, but he couldn't remember the specifics in this dream. Then she turned to him, kissed his cheek, whispered in his ear, and the part of him aware that he was dreaming hurt so much at the tenderness he missed so much.
Waking up slowly, he realized he was tilted, that it was why he had felt so off in his dream. Someone was sitting on his bed, and he blinked his eyes awake in confusion, to see her leaning over him, hair appearing far more golden with the morning light behind her. She smiled warmly and her fingers brushed over his temple and tucked stray hairs behind his ear. "Good morning, dear prince."
"...Luna?" he asked, not believing that he had truly woken up after all.
She giggled and nodded, and then she bent over him to kiss his forehead. "Happy birthday. Do you like the surprise I arranged?"
"You're here..."
"I am."
He blinked and stared at her a moment more. Then he moved quick and she yelped happily when he looped an arm around her waist and scooped her up to roll her onto the bed. He grinned down at her then wrapped her up tight in his arms and squished her against the soft mattress. She laughed and patted his back, pleading mercy as he let himself weigh her down with their laughter ringing in the sunlit room. "Best. Birthday present. Ever."
She gave up on her playful struggles, his head resting on her chest as they each settled down. Running fingers through his cool hair, she smiled down at him with her love for him softening every facet of her expression. "I'm very glad. I missed you so very much, dearheart."
"Can we just stay here all day? It's so rare that we have any time together anymore, I just want to keep you to myself, no interruptions..."
"I was thinking we should go out, just the two of us. Dress down and have some fun."
"Lunaaaa," he whined, pouting up at her though she could see in his eyes that he was playing.
"If we stay here, everyone will know where to find us. If you want no interruptions, isn't being someplace unknown and unexpected a better idea?"
"...Good point. So, what did you have in mind?"
"Unfortunately, that was as far as I had gotten in my plans. It's been awhile since I've been in Insomnia, so I'm not sure what to do."
He thought about it a moment, then he sat up with a wide grin. "Let's go to the theme park. I've always wanted to take you, and today seems like the day."
"Yes!" she agreed cheerfully.
With promises to visit a cute cafe on the way, Noctis rolled out of bed at last to take a quick shower and dress for the day. Luna rooted through her things for a loose outfit of bright summer colors, the airy fabric flowing with her graceful movements, and when he finished getting ready much later, he was stopped dead in his tracks the moment he spotted her in the living room.
She smiled and handed him a small box wrapped in the whites and pale golds of Tenebrae and finished with a shocking black ribbon striped in a bold and sparkling gold for Lucis. Rather than take the box from her hand, he reached out and gently gripped her forearm to pull her in for a long and proper hug. When they pulled back, he cupped her face between his hands and kissed her sweetly, leaning into her, feeling her hum softly against his lips, her free hand clenching in his shirt and trembling faintly as their world was reduced to one another and the singing in their hearts that being together once again brought forth.
It seemed to be an eternity that ended too soon when they came apart, a conflicting feeling as they were washed in the glow of their love and the bittersweet knowledge that this time would end again far too soon.
Noctis swallowed past the lump that had formed in his throat and laughed at himself before he finally took the near forgotten box from her. "Thank you...," he mumbled, his voice soft and rough. She simply nodded, and he opened the gift to find an elegant watch inside. It gleamed even in the low light, a truly beautiful piece of work that would match most anything he could ever wear, with its gunmetal black band accented with gold, a face of jet black with ornate designs and gears of the same golden accents. "It's wonderful, thank you..."
"Would you like to wear it today?"
He smiled and nodded, and she took it from the box and slipped the watch on his wrist. It would be plenty easy for him to put on by himself of course, but feeling her fingers tickle his inner wrist, her breath warm against his chest as she stood so very close and looked down to see what she was doing. When the watch was fastened, she picked up his hand and kissed the backs of his fingers, making him grin and tug on her arm to return the gesture.
"Now... To Disneyland!" he declared, and the pair burst out laughing before heading out the door to play hooky from royal responsibilities in celebration of his birthday and being together.

I got sucked into ffxv YouTube videos again and came out the other side with a new theory
Clearly, the Lucis Caelum family members aren't the only people on Eos with magic. One of the vids I watched suggested that Shiva picks the Oracles, and that she was also the first Oracle. So I want to propose that all magic comes from the Astrals, each with a different sort of magic.
So the Oracles magic is Shiva's, and comes with personal instruction from the goddess herself apparently. She's one of the nicest Astrals around, but she only blesses one or two mortals at a time. I think it's hinted that the magic of the havens is tied to the Oracles too, somewhere. So her schtick, ironically, is healing and safety? Remind me to wonder about what that means for Ardyn, sometime.
Dino has the handy ability to imbue his gems and jewelry with protective spells and buffers. And given that Titan literally caught a meteor out of the sky to protect Eos, I'll take that mineral association and run with it. He's a little too busy with leg day to be wandering around finding humans worthy of his gifts though—he's too busy to even answer any of my summonings—so let's say the blessing of Titan runs with bloodlines. I reckon that Lestallum blacksmith's got it too. While Dino can't reliably control what kind of effects his pieces will have because he's still young, well practiced craftmasters can.
Ramuh probably has the most widespread civilian magic, he seems like a cool dude who rewards any attempt at his trials. The participation trophy of Astral magic... as long as you don't mind rain. Everyone knows an acolyte of Ramuh, whether they realize it or not. As for flavor, after episode Gladio I really started wishing berserkers had been a thing in 15, but having so many people prone to uncontrollable rage would be not good. So let's say acolytes of Ramuh are blessed with lighting magic and astounding stamina and vigor. (Hard stares at Ravus, after episode Ignis)
And on the flip side, no one is nuts enough to petition Leviathan for a taste of her power. She doesn't care enough to utilize messengers, so those few who succeed are feared, and the others are probably dead. I think creation would be a good theme for Leviathans power, for all I can't get "dance water, dance" out of my head...
The Caelum family must have two kinds of magic. With the crystal being it's own entity (thank you Episode Ignis for validating my dumb headcanon,) but also under Bahamut's protection, it only makes sense.
Bahamuts magic, I think, is responsible for the Caelums ability to warp and their Armiger. The family serves as his disciples, distributing his Blessing to those they deem worthy; the guard and glaive mainly. In a roundabout way, this could also explain why Aranea seems to be able to summon and dismiss her lance. As a mercinary, she's taken payment in all forms.
So the magic of the crystal would be whatever's left. Elemancy, though some Astrals blessings come with an element, the crystal gives access to all three. Likewise, the potion enchanting magic. No one else in the party can do this, so it's not something noctis can teach them. Plus the magic of the Lucii and the Ring.
The magic of Ifrit is super rare, since he's a fallen Astral and all. It was probably super common with Solheimien engineers, and ran through a few prominent Nif families before they all became deamons. Might be seen as a curse rather than a blessing, by modern times. I say Ardyns illusions are the gift of Ifrit, since he doesn't have the Blessing of the Lucii and no one else we meet can do the things he can.

FFXV: Sexy Dragon Daddy
Originally posted on February 25, 2022 at AO3
Summary: Someday, after Noctis becomes King and continues the family line and passes on, he'll be Bahamut's newest Messenger. Until then, he's seeing how much his friends will put up with before they ritualistically murder him to repent for his sins. Crack fic.
Ships: Bahamut/Noctis (kinda)
Warnings: Mentioned Kinks and Fetishes, Blasphemy, Noctis and Gentiana are trolls, Daddy Kinky, Noctis is maybe a monsterfucker, Dawn of the Future spoilers
XX
When Noctis had his first vision from the Draconian, it was awe inspiring. He was crying when he came back, huddled on the floor of his apartment, overwhelmed by the experience.
By the dozenth, he'd gotten fairly used to it, even though the people around him still acted disturbed by his glowing eyes or the way he apparently flickered in and out of existence as Bahamut spoke to him of famines, or attacks, or which team was going to lose next week.
By the twentieth, it was starting to feel routine. Bahamut was just his manager at a really weird job and he wasn't even that bad once they worked out how best Noctis could handle things he was told. And that was cool, he'd saved a lot of lives and spared his father a lot of stress. And helped Prompto make a good chunk of money through sports betting.
After he'd basically lost count, he had a hard time thinking of Bahamut as a scary authority figure and started to think of him more like he did Cor or Clarus--yeah, sometimes they were in charge, but that didn't mean he couldn't give them shit.
Of course, he'd never jokingly call them "daddy" in front of his friends and then have to continue saying it just because of the result.
"I don't even know if it's technically possible for me to blaspheme," he argued for the umpteenth time when Ignis begged him to stop ("please do not refer to the Draconian as 'sexy dragon daddy' during the Oracle's visit, Noctis, please, I will never try to make you eat a vegetable again").
He, of course, never agreed to anything, and when Lunafreya (who he'd only ever met briefly before, when she first officially took over as Oracle from her mother) and her brother (who he had met a few more times and couldn't stand) arrived, all bets were off. She was so obedient and respectful. Just doing whatever the Astrals and those Messengers that followed her around said.
"I was made to look like a human version of the Draconian," he mused at one point during the visit, when the "younger" crowd had been put together in a room for lunch (Gladio tensed behind him as soon as he started and he wished he could turn around to see the not quite hidden panic in his eyes), "and the Mystic was made to look the same," Lunafreya was watching with wide, fascinated eyes and he smiled, "which makes me wonder: do you think it would count as clonecest if we could hook up?"
The noise Gladio made behind him reminded him of a dying Garula on a nature show. Ravus had dropped his spoon in his soup, which had splattered all over his pretentious white shirt. Ignis had his head in his hands, hiding his face. And Lunafreya, well, she was blushing bright red and confused.
Gentiana, nearby as she always was with the Oracle, leaned closer, opening her eyes to meet Noctis'. "Would these two boys together not be twincest?" she countered, and even though her face was as serene as ever, he couldn't help but think that she totally got it.
"Damn, I really need to ask daddy if Somnus and I were genetically identical."
"Your father?" Lunafreya looked between them in innocent confusion.
Noctis laughed. "No, he's my dad, he's not my daddy." Beside him, Ignis seemed to be trying to slide under the table without anyone noticing, so Noctis made sure to lean closer and draw attention to him. "I mean my sexy dragon daddy." Seeming to give up, Ignis all but jumped away from the table, muttering some excuse under his breath.
"The Bladekeeper," Gentiana explained, nodding sagely.
Lunafreya looked between the two of them in dawning horror. Beside her, Ravus had started to giggle, a tiny, nervous noise that Noctis recognized as the "the gods are going to smite us any second" reaction some people who didn't know the gods at all had.
"You...Prince Noctis...you aren't truly referring to...Bahamut?"
"Yeah, who else? You know, the guy who occasionally makes us mere mortals look like little copies of him (without the sexy tail) because he's that narcissistic."
Gentiana patted Lunafreya's shoulder. "For his own face, the Bladekeeper's affections never stray. This boy, his current interest."
"Both you and the Founder King...look like the Draconian?" Ravus was sobering enough, perhaps thanks to Gentiana's continued calm, to form words.
"Yeah. It's wild, but I'm not going to yuck anyone's yums. Also, it's totally understandable, right? We're hot."
Both Fleurets were staring at his face, coming to terms that they now knew what the Draconian's visage looked like. It had taken some time for that to sink in with his friends, who weren't even that religious, so he didn't know what to expect from the Oracle and he brother.
"How do you even have sex with an Astral?" Lunafreya asked after a moment, seeming to be distracted by pondering the mechanics.
Bahamut was pretty big, even in his smaller form, so Noctis didn't blame her for wondering. And even though this had started as a joke, the longer he went with it, the more he did start to...kind of want to try it. Having sex with his doppleganger (or, he supposed, the other way around) intrigued him. And his tail was sexy.
"Many ways are there to partake in the pleasures divine," Gentiana, the smug little minx, answered.
He raised his eyebrows, she inclined her head, and even though they'd just met, he knew she was offering to talk to him about it later.
With a nod, he turned back to his actual goal for lunch: seeing how long it took until his Shield stepped in to stop him.
"Wait, okay, backtracking. If I managed to get Somnus' spirit out of the ring...would that be necrophilia?"
Behind him, Gladio may have punched the wall.
