My opinion of your jason is just: better than riordan could've ever written him. You write him as a well balanced, believable character and not the mess riordan left him as at the end of BOO. Keep up the good work !!

To ship or not to ship

Okay okay so Leo/Piper:

BROTP all the fucking way okay. I just don’t see them as a romantic couple? I mean I got all sorts of feels and can’t help but agree with that one headcanon i think it was daisy posted about Leo possibly having crushed on her before Jason came along and he and Pipes got together. And I just—ugh okay. I feel like its comfortable. Ya’know? Like they don’t have any weird or crazy expectations of one another and enjoy each other’s company in a way that’s more platonic or sibling like to me than romantic. I know some people do ship the thing but sorry i don’t >

Reyna/Piper:

BROTP (with benefits if the situation arose—). For a while I did ship them romantically but with the whole ‘no demigod will heal your heart’ thing from Aphrodite plus the minimal interaction between Piper and Reyna, my personal thought is brotp—mostly bonding over how big a dork the boys are (and Piper begging Reyna for Jason stories and Reyna agreeing so long as Piper gives her the most recent funny Jason stories). I mean I’m not as stuck on this one with Leo/Piper so if you give me the right fic or thread you could probably change my mind without much hassle.

that was a terrible deflection, but…he deliberatelytwist the meaning of the question. very deliberately.he’s trying to spare her any embarrassment. hebarely understands why piper likes him. trying towork out what light reyna held him in was too…too weird. he was too weird for that kind ofattention. 

so, yeah, he noticed———but not til long after. andregrets ever hurting her with that, though jason’shumility screams for him to not think himself soimportant that he’d be capable of that at all.

it’s not entirely a lie. jason doesn’t think of it as the wound in his soul. jason is of the opinion that all wounds heal over time—if he didn’t have that to believe in, he’d be less hopeful about a lot of things. silver linings, and all that. he has to have hope in his own resilience. 

thinking back on it—only as he’s asked, up front—he remembers that as nothing but a stab through the torso, piper screaming in fear, and annabeth telling he’d been brave when the blistering pain was dying down. wound in his soul? no…that had healed over. he supposes the insecurity part is what makes it so. his insecurities? huh…

           `well…everyone…i mean. everyone’s got a little insecurity somewhere.            again…i don’t—i don’t really dwell on it. it’s easy to fall prey to it…`

now that is a lie. he’s not too proud to admit he’s insecure. he’s just too ashamed of how it plays in his head everytime he thinks of it. it’s such a silly thing, isn’t it? absentmindedly, his hand moves to cover the now healing scar between his stomach and chest. there’s no wince; no flinch. it no longer hurts.

beryl gave you up. thalia ran away after you ‘died’ and tried to forget you completely. when you came to camp jupiter, you found a home. after you vanished at juno’s behest, nobody came to look. nobody but reyna, and she replaced you. piper and leo have fake memories that do them nothing when compared to a shabby, living version of the friend in their dreams. leo’s gone. you won’t be able to prove much to him now. you weren’t able to prove much while he was alive at all. 

there it is—that little twinge of nausea. the hand clenches into his shirt a little. jason chooses not to dwell because if he does, if he really thinks about it, he’s reminded that a lot of him—a lot of his life—is just drfiting between people. and it hurts like he doesn’t want to go through again. no more. please. he could be a hero, he could be a leader, he could be a lover or a best friend til death took him—but he’d be plagued by this thought. nobody stuck around. nobody came back for him. nobody looked at jason and thought the same thing twice, and it—wasn’t a comfort. he chastises himself for being so whiny. if people didn’t care, they wouldn’t be here at all. he just has to keep giving them reason to stay—does he? has to keep being kind, being understanding, being fair and welcoming. if not to soothe his own fears of being a useless piece with too much power, then for their sakes; if they thought they had nobody else, he was there. he would remain so as long as needed. til they had what they needed from him, and went on their way.

damn. that twinge turns into an ache, and he forces a smile that falls flat, not quite meeting eyes now. it’s shameful, it’s weak—but it’s true. maybe he just clings too hard to what he has. who he has. he’s not got much else to be useful for. and it hits hard on some nights, and he’s so close to admitting it. it happens the most around piper. she lost someone closer to her than jason had been before, and they were both faced with this gap between them. an empty space; a seat left vacant. nobody said his name for weeks. he wants to just ask her; what do you want me to be? tell me who you want me to be. what i need to do. i can fix this. give me a chance to, i can do it.

and the empty space between them, that ghost in the chair, shakes its head and says you’re too tired to try anymore, sparky. give it up, man. she doesn’t want you to be anybody. be a nobody. vanish.  

jason is staring intently at his shoes. at his hands. anywhere but upwards. eventually, he speaks. he tries for a lighthearted tone—but his voice falters. too quiet for his usual confident self. too ashamed for it to be played off easily. even the trying smile slips into a pinched look.

           `but…i dunno. ever feel like you’re going to be gathering dust on the ‘lost            and found’ shelf forever? because i—…`

oh. there’s the voice. you are not real if nobody wants you. you are not real, jason grace.

           `n-nevermind.`
