These people are so weird. We can be respectful about Gabby but still point out how women (and men, frankly) of different races, appearances, backgrounds, and statuses are hardly ever brought up like this in the media like she has because sheā€™s white, pretty, upper middle class, and had a YouTube account.
You know what the anon blowback to that post reminded me of? When people clutch their titties in outrage whenever people bring up gun control after a mass shooting.
They claim it isn't the time or place.
That's fucking lie.
You just don't want to talk about it.
If. Not. Now. When?
Gabby's case reflects the same issue. For the past few days, she has had utterly i n s a n e news coverage. I don't even live in the USA and basically all I have been breathing is her case. Why? Because all too often, young, white, pretty, heterosexual, blonde women are the only victims that matter.
They sell.
They are the perfect commodity.
The perfect, innocent victim.
If pointing out that others don't get an inch of comparable coverage gets people mad, they need to take a hard look at themselves. Because, I ask, when do you want to talk about all the other victims no one gives a toss about? Tomorrow? Next week? Ever? Thats the thing. It never ends up happening.
Gabby is likely dead, and that is painfully sad.
But no one is taking away from that by pointing out that now is the perfect time to talk about all the poc/etc you never hear about. Who never become a hashtag or a media darling. Who never get a subreddit named for them on reddit or a half million online sleuths rampaging through every detail to help solve her case and bring her home.
Now is a perfect time. Because the ugly part is, deep down, most people don't care.

I like to think that both Jack and Tenenbaum knew what was happening with the Big Sisters taking little girls from the surface and that Jack wanted to help Brigid by going back to Rapture with her, but she was adamant about him staying on the surface to be there for his daughters that he was able to save.
I agree! I mean I don't know how deeply they knew about Big Sisters and their origins (you'll have to forgive me, my ARG knowledge is surface level so you can correct me on that if it does good deeper into that lol) but with girls disappearing around Atlantic coasts, the sightings of Big Sisters, bundled with Meltzer contacting Tenenbaum they wouldā€™ve had a solid enough picture of the problem to make a plan of action, especially since theyā€™re one of the few people who actually know about Rapture in full on the surface- though I donā€™t think theyā€™d know anything about their enemy in Lamb or her goals.
Of course, Tenenbaum, in her work of atonement for her work on ADAM and Little Sisters, considers saving the stolen children and stopping whoever is behind it her responsibility and burden to bear, and Jack is a morally upstanding person and learning that more children are being forced through the horrors of Rapture that heā€™s experienced, that his daughters had to go through, would want to help and be a part of saving the next generation of little sisters.
Like you said though, Tenenbaum would not allow Jack to come with her. Heā€™ll always be ranked among her little ones, regardless of how grown he is, and after eight years of peace of and healing she wouldnā€™t want to drag him back and expose him to more pain- plus he does have his children that are still dependent on him and need support. The last time he returned the city heā€™d been an object on standby- he didnā€™t have anything to leave behind and thatā€™s not the case now.
I think Jack would try and argue with her about it (theyā€™re both so stubborn sdjkfls) to convince her to let him go in place of her (because he doesnā€™t want anything bad to happen to her either, theyā€™re family). He was designed and built to survive and take Rapture in the first place, heā€™d have a better chance of surviving (Idk if having Ryanā€™s blood would still give him an edge by BS2? I imagine Ryanā€™s genetics would be too built into Rapture to completely get rid of, but I canā€™t remember if there was something in BS2 that implied otherwise).
Of course, none of this logic sits with Tenenbaum at all, and in the end, she goes back alone with the knowledge that Jack and the girls are away and safe for the horrors sheā€™s facing- and knowing that if she never comes back home heā€™ll never forgive her. He made her take his wrench so she canā€™t forget, and maybe for a bit of good luck (if you donā€™t think the wrench she has at the end of Minervaā€™s Den is Jackā€™s idk what to tell you- it IS and in this Ted Talk I will-)
Leaving Jack to hold down the fort on the surface until Tenenbaum comes back home, trying to figure out how to balance the truth of the situation with his daughters while making sure not to let anything slip that might remind them of their pasts. Tenenbaumā€™s absence would be too noticeable to not have a conversation, they all loved her. Together they all have to support each other as they wait for her to come back.

Andy really has the range. He can look like a British noble filled with sonnets to lyrically romanticize someone or an American trucker that raws people in gas stations whenever he chooses.
šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I appreciate your way with words. I completely agree. People can sayĀ ā€œAcTiNGā€ but not every actor/actress has range; thereā€™s a reason people find actors out of place in a modern movie or in a period piece. But Andyā€™s spanned it all. Heā€™s just as natural as Edgar Linton in 18th century Yorkshire as he is as Edgar Cooke in 1990s London. He really has a chameleon ability, change his hair, change his posture, change his facial expressions; heā€™s very physical. He can look like he should be wearing a waistcoast strolling across his sprawling English estate or rolling out of his busted up old pickup truck in the American south. Itā€™s why people pigeonholing him to one role bothers me, heā€™s so much more than whatever random role of his that a person refuses to see beyond. He truly has range and as a fan I appreciate all the different characters heā€™s allowed me to experience because Simon Casey sure as hell isnā€™t anything like Rick Grimes or Hugh Collinson or Edgar Linton.

Antlers is about the Wendigo - a Native American evil spirit that causes cannibalism and violence. Itā€™s based on a short story called The Quiet Boy. Itā€™s literally the scariest short story I ever read. If the movie is anything like it, it will be the scariest movie in years. It was supposed to come out in April 2020, but then delayed to October 2020 and then April 2021 and then now October 2021 due to COVID. I have waited forever and I cannot wait anymore.
Oh nice, I've read a little about Wendigos but that was years ago, it looks really good just from that little bit so I'll be watching for sure ^_^

Are you American or British? Because pretty much everywhere else in the world, kids live with their parents. Even after they get married and have kids, they sometimes still live together. Even in America, a lot of non-white people do that. Americans used to live with their parents until the 1960s, when we became a global and economic superpower. But now that everything sucks again, we're back to living with our parents. Moving out of our parents home is a relatively new and stupid phenomena.
yeah sadly i am caucasian american and we see the wholeĀ ā€œleave when youā€™re 18ā€³ as a law basically

When Isaac is on the tram and he reverses it and says he has to go back on the Ishimura, I refused to go for like 20 minutes. That's how scared I was to go back on. Easily one of the scariest moments in gaming for me.
I know right? I just said hell no Iā€™m not going back in there because I know whatā€™s in there. I think that is the scariest part in the whole trilogy, going back on the Ishimura.

Per your question about the zombie guts thing - it's a last resort. It was shown in Season 7 that the walker guts can you make you incredibly ill if you are not careful - and fatal if it enters your blood stream. Plus it could get washed off or dry and you have to keep on washing it. It's better to do what Michonne did which is get yourself zombie pets.
Oh thank you lol. Yeah I mean I figured itā€™s pretty gross and dangerous and unreliable. Iā€™m only on season 5 but Iā€™m sure ppl getting sick off zombie guts will be super fun to witness in season 7!! lol canā€™t wait. In the meantime Iā€™ll just keep being upset about Beth, as well as rooting for Rick to keep growing out his beard, and hoping hopelessly that no one else I like dies horribly. :ā€™)

I remember playing BioShock 2 for the first time and how in my first playthrough I wanted to save all the Little Sisters - but after 2 hours of Dionysus Park and accidentally harvesting the last Little Sister - I didn't want to backtrack. So I got the sad ending on my first go. Fucked me right up.

I feel like there things you should know. I liked Glenn more than Carl. The reason why I said what I said was because Carl was the protagonist of the comics and ends with him surviving. Glennā€™s death in the comics impacts all the characters. If you were to look back in my posts from 2016 where all of this was happening, I actually wanted Daryl to get Glennā€™s death. I LOVE Glenn way more than Daryl. The post was about me being a comic fan and realizing it was an adaptation.

@thegaymerist I see your point, but the issue of representation is vital in discussions like this.Ā

thegaymerist replied to your post ā€œI honestly donā€™t mind the job search that much. What I really hate is...ā€
i'm going through the same exact thing. i currently have a job at the library that she doesn't see as a real job, and my job here expires next month so i have to find a new job. it's hard, because i don't have a whole lot of marketable skills and i don't want to work in retail againĀ
My parents keep saying stuff likeĀ ā€œif you donā€™t get something, work at McDonaldā€™s or somethingā€ and I absolutely refuse to do that. As if I needed more pressure. And I feel you on the marketable skills thing. Hell, I have a masterā€™s degree and I donā€™t feel like itā€™s helping me at the moment. Still, Iā€™m applying to anything that piques my interest that I have some experience in.
I can tell they think Iā€™ve got some sense of naivety about how the world works, but Iā€™m well aware of how things go. I hate the whole ā€œyou donā€™t know the worldā€ mentality. I might work as a substitute teacher as a fallback, but I really hope one of my applications lands me an interview. Best of luck with your job hunting!

I just saw someone say that when Negan was playing Gears of War 2 he could've been playing online with Carl during that time... my mind is BLOWN. It makes sense too - I was Carl's age (12) when I started playing Gears. I almost wish they got Chandler to do a little voice cameo to make that connection.
If I had a list of things I wish this show did I would have died under it's weight 45 seasons and 56 million disappointments ago, bruv.

@thegaymerist it comes down to some level of interpretation- because not a lot is stated about Jack outside of his physical presence in the main game, but personally I donā€™t think the people he thought of as his parents existed at all, the closest thing being if Fontaine did pay some goons to make sure his weapon didnā€™t die while it was on the surface- but I donā€™t think they wouldā€™ve been pretending to be family (and we donā€™t even know how aware Jack really was during those 2 surface years)
It wasnā€™t particularly prudent to the point of the post so I did leave mentioning Jasmine Ryanā€™s and the farm marketā€™s flashes in the tags- tho the former two I feel are more so the writers trying to give the players a hint since Jack has never interacted with Jasmine and Ryan outside of the events of the game so they wouldnā€™t be familiar to him or trigger any memories. Those two feels more meta foreshadowing to me.
This is BASICALLY saying we agree on Jack thinking about his family because of his history with the spot and Atlas mentioning family there and are just applying the memories to different characters- I just prefer tying it to Tenenbaum and Fontaine since theyā€™re more active and present characters in the story, and with the story already framing them as his parents anyways.
Are we ready to talk about how when Jack enters the Smuggler's Hideout he gets a flash of his family? Given that it was a) the one place we go in BS1 that was completely under Fontaine's control and b) it was likely where Jack was smuggled out of the city by Fontaine and Tenenbaum (since Fontaine cites both of them being there) it was the last place he saw them and that having that memory there means that he considered them his family, considered them his parents?

Hi there. I just wanted to say sorry. I feel like my post was taken out of context. I didnā€™t mean it be about Asian people being ripped from great Asian representation. In fact, if you looked in my past posts in 2016, I wanted Daryl to get Glennā€™s comic death. When Glenn died, I understood why. Because he had the most connections to all the group members. My post was never meant to be about Asians or favoring white characters over POC characters. I loved Glenn more than Carl and Daryl.
Contā€™d As a gay man, Iā€™ve endured too many gay characters dying for Bury Your Gays. When Eric died in the show, I was upset but understood why it happened. But then Jesus died, and he lives in the comics and has a great relationship with Aaron. I absolutely hated that, but I didnā€™t quit the show. So that was my point of view. As a minority, I understand being denied representation. I do apologize for any hurt feelings, the post was never meant to be about race. I would love have more discussions
(In relation to this post.) Hello, thank you for replying. Iā€™m glad that we understand each other, usually that never happens. And yeah, my inbox is always open for discussions. @thegaymerist

Lmao yes! Itā€™s interesting that just last week I read Disney had no plans to fire her and she was apparently even in talks for her own spinoff, and she tweeted out that she wasnā€™t going anywhere, and now after Pedroā€™s sister comes out, she is DONE lol, honestly he must be so relieved she is gone, I donā€™t imagine it was easy being around her.Ā
