found this picture on twitter (new to me, but probably old to all you who've been in the KP fandom since the start) and it makes me laugh so hard, mainly because of Kim/Jeff's suit 😂 It looks like some of the outlandish things Tankhun would wear! meanwhile Tong's dressed in what's probably the most sensible suit of them all??!?!

I am always amazed by writers that come out with small details that give impact to the story. What I meant by this was by making the character to be what number of children they are. Oldest, second, seventh, and youngest, the decision to put the character in any of these roles affect how people view the character and affect the storytelling unconsciously. Especially if the story was about family. This brings me to the reason this post was made.
Kinn Anakinn Theerapanyakul.
I think it was an interesting choice to make Kinn the middle child. Why did I say this? Because it was easy to just put Kinn as the eldest and become the heir from the get-go. We can still get Kinn that was burdened by the responsibility, Kinn that loved his siblings and Kinn who longed for a simple life. It had been made before.
But why did the writers decide that Kinn must be the middle child?
Well, in my opinion, it was because there is this notion that the middle child was always forgotten. Especially if it was between three siblings. The middle child was always stuck in the middle. You are neither babied like the youngest nor given big responsibilities like the eldest.
This was the situation for Kinn. Kinn was never the heir from the start. His father had never intended for Kinn to succeed him, but, with what happened to Khun, he had to. This is what made Kinn a layered character. The responsibility was never his to begin with but he took it upon himself because this is his family. And Kinn loved and cared for his family. Kinn was not made to be a leader because he was never supposed to be one. That was supposed to be Khun.
But, why did the writer create Kim? Why give him a younger brother? In my opinion, having a younger brother made Kinn's position as the heir and eventual leader, not a sure thing. Meaning, in Korn's eyes, if Kinn failed just like Khun, there was still Kim. And let's be honest, out of all the three brothers, Kim suits the position the best. This creates a narrative in which Kinn was desperate to be acknowledged by his father as the best heir, despite competing with no one as both of his rivals had no interest in this race at all.
Another narrative that existed due to the creation of Kim, the younger brother, was the thing Kinn does for his family. As mentioned above, Kinn loves his family. This might be a headcanon, but I would like to believe that Kinn took upon the position so Kim shouldn't. I do think it was easy for Kinn to reject the position because there was Kim, the backup for the backup. With the resources that he had, it would be easy for him to disappear and gain the freedom that he desired, but, he didn't. Instead, he was there, trapped in the role he never wanted while Kim lived Kinn's dream.
I think one of the fascinating things that the writers decided to do with the story was that there was no infighting among the brothers. Instead, we got both Khun and Kim supporting Kinn in their own ways. This is why I was quite sad that we only got one scene of the three brothers at the same place. You may say this fact itself shows the relationship between the brothers, but I wish we got more like a flashback or something like that.

okay maybe this will make no sense but
i'm rewatching kinnporsche again and i'm at the part where after porchay gets kidnapped kim wakes up and the first thing he does is call kinn to ask what happened at the house
and it's pretty hard to pinpoint his exact emotion (at least to me) before the scene cuts off but the way he sets his jaw isn't saying "i need answers right now and my brother isn't giving them to me". it seems like he gets his answer
which means... that after not hearing from kim for who knows how long. the second kinn gets a random call from him asking for information for who knows what reason. kinn just answers. no questions asked.
i don't know... i don't know where i was going with this. maybe i AM wrong and kinn begins by asking why he needs to know but. just made me think

i think tankhun has like major power in the family if he ever bothered to use it. he has arm at his side. tech wiz? the one who takes care of the armory and the entire security system? he also have pete and porsche by his side, and with that comes vegas and kinn (ofc even without porsche kinn would be by his side anyways) and there is also kim. korn isnt choking him by the neck like he does with kinn, too. surely korn has power over him, but he wont have it as hard as kinn who has to play 4D chess with his dad. its interesting how khun is put in the story as comedic relief but he could very very very easily be a darker one

Of all the love stories in KinnPorsche, it's the sibling ones that are wrapped around my heart the most. Three sets of brothers with every reason to hate each other, every reason to be like Korn and Gun, and yet they aren't.
Instead of resenting having to take care of Chay since he was a child himself, Porsche adores him. And he raises him not just as a good kid, but as one so secure in love and support that he tosses his heart onto open waters with merely a blush. Chay could hate Porsche and the life they live, always on the edge. But no, he thinks the sun rises and sets on his hia and is willing to give up his own future to help Porsche achieve his dream.
Vegas and Macau, instead of competing for their father's non-existent love and approval, have each other's back. Macau is willing to go along with whatever scheme his brother is running, no matter how dumb. And despite Gun's posturing, it's Vegas who gets up and takes his injured brother to be seen to.
And of course, the GIF set above which inspired this bubbling over of emotion. We don't get nearly enough interaction between the main family brothers for my greedy tastes, but what's there is 'cherce'. There is so much connection, affection, and protection in every scene they are in. Kinn bearing the weight of the ring to protect his brothers and yet still so loving with Tankhun -Kinn who even thinks he might be faking it and yet is nothing but soft and indulgent with him. Kim who loves his family enough to try and protect them from the outside against the threat within. And Khun whose love for his brothers is his main priority. When it involves Kinn, he's there for every meeting, every decision.
Whatever else Korn and Gun might have succeeded in, they failed in the biggest way.

Bad Habits
Kim has developed a bad habit.
Ever since Mae died, he hasn’t been able to sleep alone. Pa never entertained this weakness, even when Kim went sneaking into his room at night for comfort, for the familiar scent of Mae’s perfume that was steadily fading from their pillows, so he began sleeping with Tankhun, instead. Khun never minded. He always told Kim how nice it was to have his own little heater to keep him warm at night.
It helped that Kim didn’t take up much space; he was small for his age, even smaller when he curled up into a tight little ball for Khun to cuddle, like a bearded dragon around a heat rock.
Kim doesn’t sleep with Khun anymore, though. Not since his brother was kidnapped and came back wrong. Frightened and distant, his body an empty shell for his shattered soul. He can’t stand to be touched. Not by the doctors or the guards or their father. Not by Kim.
The first time Kim sneaks into Khun’s bed after a nightmare, Khun wakes screaming, kicking and clawing to get away, his nails raking stinging welts into Kim’s arms. The guards outside come running in and Kim slips out behind them, an ache in his skin and his eyes and his heart.
Kinn finds him sometime later, after Khun is settled and sedated. Kim is hiding in the music room, beneath the piano, curled up as small as he can with his arms wrapped around his head. One of the scratches is bleeding.
“Khun says he’s sorry,” Kinn says softly, after bringing Kim to his own room, examining the scratches. “He didn’t mean to scare you.”
Kim doesn’t say anything.
***
Kim still doesn’t sleep alone, but he doesn’t sleep with his brothers, either. Khun still can’t stand to be touched and Kinn doesn’t want him around. He’s like Pa, thinks Kim shouldn’t need to sleep with someone else to feel safe, like a baby.

This could fall under regret, and it's certainly one of my favorite platonic/family relationships, but no prompt really.
Just realizing during rewatch how this is the first time Kinn has ever gotten to go out with his brother. How he brings his friends and gets drunk and undignified and just has a good time, savoring the moment. How sweet and heartbreaking it is at the same time.

This is part of the 500k Tankhun lore that lives in my noggin. He has a TBI. It’s from a concussion. Most of his family thinks it happened during his kidnapping. It didn’t. It happened after, when his world was fracturing into thousands of pieces even as the doctors stitched him up. The nightmares and memories got too loud and he just needed it to stop and they had stopped giving him the sedation medication too early (‘we have to keep your mind sharp. You can’t rely on a crutch like this, find a way to push through pain,’ his father had said as the nurse took away the pills) and he just needed it to stop so he stood up and walked over to the wall and slammed his head against it. The thoughts stopped. And when they came back, they were fractured into pieces too, just like the rest of him. They never really stitched themselves back together.
It’s part of the reason Kinn takes over for him. Tankhun is fairly sure that if his father let him attend therapy he could recover from his trauma. Probably not from his paranoia, but a good mafia boss should be paranoid. But Tankhun—always considered to be the smartest of his brothers—couldn’t hold onto details. Timelines were fuzzy. His words got mixed up. He had less control over his emotions. Reading got infinitely harder. A mafia boss could be many things, but sloppy was not one of them. Tankhun could no longer stay organized, and so he could no longer lead the family. So he shut himself into his suite of rooms, a place that he knew from muscle memory so he could never get lost in it, and pivoted his life. He developed his fashion sense and sewing skills. If he couldn’t remember how long it had been since he’d worn this shirt or those pants, he might as well make them all flashy and loud enough that no one noticed if they repeated two days in a row. He blamed any of his balance issues and fine motor skill failures on long flowing sleeves, dragging cape trains, and silky gloves. He watched series (easier than reading) and though each one captivated him fully, he struggled to recall the plot after finishing it. So he would watch them again and again. Even a few years later, when he’d learned tricks and ways around his memory problems, watching and re-watching series was a center point of his life, a way to stabilize himself and carry on. He carved a life out for himself until he could hardly remember what it was like Before. He was certain he had been happy Before. But he was also fairly happy now. It was impossible to say, in the foggy realm of his memory, if he was happier now or then. Probably best not to know, he thinks, and picks out another series to watch.

Why are you in my head???? But also, I totally agree with you and I wanna talk about it. I even added gifs that sort of express my point, because I know so many people get bored of my walls of text.
I touch on this some in my fics and my discussions about my unhinged Season 2. I do see the entirety of the TPK (TPK is how I abbreviate Theerapanyakul) family becoming endeared to Chay quite quickly. Chay is set up as this sweet, very sunshine character, who would not adore him? He's not as guarded as the Family, he's very honest, he has no ulterior motives, he's someone the Family would see as innocent. Because he was not raised in their world, he also someone they would see as needing protection, but where I think the minor family would commit to making sure he could protect himself, the main family would follow Porsche's lead which is to protect Porchay, but keep him as ignorant as possible (which is not a functional long-term strategy and something Chay would resent).
In regards to a Kinn-Porchay relationship...I think it's something that takes time, and doesn't come easily. Part of that is because Kinn will defer to Porsche in regards to decisions that affect Chay, which is understandable, but also because Kinn is someone who has distanced himself from his family pretty severely. Like in the scene after Korn's 'death', he's fully separate from his brothers, the physical distance between Kinn and his brothers alluding to the emotional distance.
And the scene perfectly depicts all three of them. Kim, who's lost a lot of his respect and love for his father is almost unmoved. Tankhun, the only brother who's been regularly allowed to show any extreme emotion (which was allowed only because he's 'mentally disturbed') is incredibly distraught. And Kinn is clearly upset, but as the new leader can't allow himself to give into his grief. Kinn has distanced himself from emotion and his siblings in order to 'better perform' his role as the leader of the Family. Because he's been maintaining that distance for so long, it's not easy for him to create a connection with Porchay. It's not a lack of care or desire to form a bond with Chay, but a lack of knowledge of how to build it from the ground up. Because his bond with his siblings is one that was just there, and while the experiences of their last decade or so would have weakened it, it is something rebuildable with effort. Personally in my fics for interactions with them I try to show Kinn as trying you know, he's consistently and purposefully trying to be conscious of Chay and his feelings. It's awkward, a bit weird sometimes, but there's active effort put in. But I also feel like there's just not much common ground for Kinn and Chay outside of Porsche, and it's reasonable that at least for a while there's resentment on Chay's part. Kinn has brought Porsche into this dangerous world, a world he and his brother had despised. He finds out that Korn and Gun are in some way responsible for the loss of his parents. There's a lot of understandable reasons for Chay to not want to create a positive connection with Kinn, especially in the beginning. I think it's really seeing Porsche happy and the clear love and affection that Kinn has for Porsche that eventually softens him towards Kinn, but again that takes time.
Moving into Chay and Kim interactions with the minor family, as Macau is closest in age with him, and given the very similar situations of the brothers of the minor family and the Kittisawat brothers, it makes so much sense for them to be able to create a bond. You have two sets of brothers that are both approximately the same age, both grew up majority without a maternal figure, and with a less than great paternal figure. Older brother was consistently attempting to shield younger brother from the harsh realities of life, and was only occasionally successful. Like, it would be so simple for them to have a basis of understanding each other. It's why Porsche's assessments of Vegas (and his trustworthiness) are understandable, especially after he sees him interacting with Macau. (Sidenote: I think Tankhun seeing how Vegas cares for his brothers, esp. once Venice enters the picture is what will turn his opinion around as he'll see they have more in common as eldest siblings wanting to protect their brothers.)
In terms of Kim and Vegas...they are also mirrors of each other to a certain extent. Even though one is the oldest and one the youngest in their sibling sets, they are approximately the same age. They both developed a distrust of their fathers they couldn't fully verbalize to anyone. They were both used by their fathers. We see that directly with Vegas, but I don't think it's outside of the realm of possibility that Korn was having Kim perform tasks for him secretly. I personally headcanon that it was part of the agreement to allow Kim to move out and pursue a career as WiK.
In addition to those similarities, let's talk about their roles in the family. Standard mafia hierarchies, you have your head, then you have your right hand man (usually along the lines of an enforcer). Korn leads the family, as the head of the minor family Gun performs that role as enforcer. Moving to the next generation Tankhun would have been trained as heir, with Kinn training to be his right hand up until his final kidnapping and him stepping down as heir. Once Kinn takes over as heir, Kim would be the one expected to become his right hand, and that would have continued until Kim decided to leave. At that point Vegas would be the one brought forward to become Kinn's right hand. Which means that both Kim and Vegas would have spent years training in similar manners with the expectation that they would become essentially weapons at the disposable of Kinn. All of this is to say that Kim and Vegas are set up to have a great deal of common ground, and by the end of season 1 they both trust Korn as far as Chay could throw him, so it's not unlikely that they would be able to create at the very least a neutral relationship, nor unreasonable to think that they could create a friendly one. Especially if you consider that Vegas would have more respect for Kim as someone who clearly distrusts Korn, and also as someone who willingly stepped away from the main family.
One last point, because it's a comparison that's important to the conversation. In regards to Macau and Pete's relationship as in-laws vs. Kinn and Chay's, when you look at it from the younger's perspective Kinn took Porsche away from Chay, but Pete brought Vegas back to Macau. Like if you just look at it from the MOST basic angle. So Macau is starting off reconciling the VegasPete relationship from a place of gratitude. He's also dealing with Pete, who while very circumspect much of the time, is still a very friendly and genuine guy. He doesn't have the standoffish-ness of Kinn. And there would maybe have been some hesitation, since Pete worked for the main family, but Pete is very much a person who shows himself through action. Pete leaving the main family, being allowed to leave (which means a lot), directly saving Vegas's life, and being consistently there for both Vegas and Macau in the month Vegas is unconscious. It would have demonstrated to Macau exactly the type of person Pete is, and how he feels about Vegas. And as a younger brother who truly cares about his older brother, he would of course want Vegas to be with someone who so very clearly cares for him, and TAKES CARE of him. You add to that the fact the Pete not only takes care of Vegas, but also is active in taking care of Macau.
So there you go, 1200 words on interpersonal family relationships among the TPK family. I swear I don't have the ability to keep posts like this under 1000 words. But regardless, I hope you enjoyed my thoughts, and if you like I would enjoy hearing yours.
Also when searching for VegasPeteMacau gifs this came up...
...so here's your reward for reading this whole post, and let me know which cat you think is which member of the minor family.
Maybe its just me but I cant see Kinn and Chay really being close the way I see Pete and Macau. I actually think Chay gets along with Pete and Vegas more. They teach him self defense and are more honest about the things happening around them, keeping him in the loop, etc. Which fits fine with my other headcanons, cause I also think Kim and Vegas get along in a weird way. Once he and Chay get their shit together, Kim fits in easy with Chays ‘new friends’
Anyway this is the first step in what I call the “unifying the Theerapanyakul family” agenda

Idk if this is a controversial opinion but I low-key hate when people make Kim and his brothers distant but decide Kim is besties with Vegas at the same time
Kim had no problem walking into a random warehouse and immediately shooting at Vegas on sight
Like idc if it's just that Vegas and Kim are friends/friendly but it's when they specifically add that they are friends and Kim hates his brothers/does not interact with them but he kept in touch with Vegas?
#I personally feel like in canon Kim is at best neutral on Vegas but more likely has the same#feelings as Kinn and Tankhun and heavily dislikes/hates Vegas/the minor family in general#Like I understand it probably comes from Kim doesn't want to be in the#in the mafia*#then Vegas also gets out of it when his dad dies but it feels forced to me#(forced isnt the right word but i cant think rn)#i really can not see any circumstance where kim is willingly and happily reaching out to vegas to become friends#this extends to when people make chay friends with pete#kim is a reserved person why would he ever reach out to a cousin he has been taught to hate for years#even if theyre family tensions got resolved kim is not going out of his way to be friends#and i can not see vegas doing that either#any reason kim has to not interact with his brothers would surely somewhat extend to vegas?#idk if this is just a me thing but the second i see kim and vegas are best friends it annoys me#kim is not going to vegas over his brothers idc how bad his relationship is with them#if hes too paranoid to trust his brothers why would he trust vegas?#kim theerapanyakul#vegas theerapanyakul#mine
