what i love about this show is how it still has me holding my breath even though i already know what’s going to happen

it was such a great choice to have joyce be the first one to ever give el comfort because she’s such a soft, comforting person and i can’t think of anyone better

made it to the finale! gonna be honest, i didn’t think i’d get here in only two days but this show sucked me in the exact way it did the first time

waiting til this episode to give flashbacks on hop’s daughter was an excellent choice

steve just wanted to apologize to jonathan and now he’s an exasperated mother of seven. life comes at ya quick!!

my love for this show has officially been revived. rewatching this reminded me why i loved this show so much in the first place. the acting is amazing, especially from the kids, the writing was great, and the fucking jumpscares were incredible. i’m so excited to start season 2!!

both minji and seungkwan enjoy girl group songs and spend their free time learning the most popular choreography. mizuki is mostly the one that gets to dance with gg members and comes to seungkwan showing it off. she definitely teases seungkwan the most out of all of them. just like the rest of the members, he dances along with her whenever there’s girl group songs put on!! ❪ cue “ooh-ahh, ooh-ahh” on ttt ❫.

i think these two have such a calming aura to them. part of the american line with shua & most of their dialogue consists of konglish. vernon has stated that he mostly speaks korean rather than english and thanks joshua + minji for allowing him to speak english with them so he doesn’t completely forget about it. minji had the chance to see new york when she was younger and she absolutely loved it ❪ only the tourist places, other than that she thought it was okay ❫. vernon, who grew up around that part of the state, really didn’t see the entire hype about it but still made sure that minji got the full experience whenever seventeen had the chance to visit vernon’s state. 

mizuki doesn’t really baby him in a way that she would with seungkwan or chan but she still looks out for him and makes sure he’s always taking care of himself.

mizuki definitely hugs him the most when shes drunk and rants about how much she hates it when he grows up because it reminds her that she’s also growing up. sad stuff aside they are THEE main dancers along with soonyoung!!! the amount of energy he has is so astonishing and mizuki tries her best to keep up with it. dino was always a firm believer in the jeongmi ship and has always managed to call them mom & dad.. even with seungcheol by their side 🤦. chan & mizuki’s younger brother have a few things in common and spend their free time talking to each other.

Okay i'm sorry this took me so long to get back to- but omg- incantations was so good!!! I love that every dino bias is just !!! over this too! (would have bawled my eyes out worse if it was jun tbh but god you captured dino so well 😭😭))- God I love reading your fics- it's like a little treat after hardwork!! That murder line is just still 🫠🤭 it's so good- I loveddddd the catalyst chapter sm!! I jammed the key into the lock and closed the door behind me, dropping my keys and bag next to Spence's brown satchel on the floor. I had thee most stressful day at work that I could cry. 

If I didn't need this job, I would have marched into the managers office and handed in my resignation letter and never looked back. But I couldn't do that because this job was the only thing keeping me stable in life.

I was so frustrated, I noticed an empty glass sitting on the side table next to the couch, I grabbed it and chucked it against the bookshelf, watching it smash into a million pieces. The glass sort of represented my life, I was fragile as glass and with the right words or actions I could break in an instant.

It broke me too think that I am this breakable. 

I stood there for a couple of seconds before everything became too much. 

"DAMN IT!" I shouted, I fell to the ground, tears streaming down my face. I noticed the living room lights turn on and a blurry figure running towards me. 

"Baby, what's wrong?" Spencer's voice was ringing in my ears. He bent down to my level and wrapped his arms around me, inhaling his vanilla scent mixed with coffee just made me cry harder. "Hey, hey, it's okay." He rubbed my back. I was crying so hard I found it hard to catch my own breathe. "Babe, please breathe." Spencer's whispers into my ear and I try. "It's okay, let it out. I'm here. It's alright." 

I don't know how long Spencer and I stayed on the floor but I pulled back and looked up at him. His golden brown eyes filled with worry. 

"Come on," Spencer and I head into our shared bedroom and I head straight into the washroom for a hot shower. "Take as long as you need, I'll make you something to eat." Spencer handed me a pair of pajamas and kissed my forehead. 

I stood in the shower until the hot water turned cold. I changed into the pair of pajamas and dried my wet hair. Spencer was sitting on the bed, reading a book. He closed it as soon as he realized I was out of the shower. I threw the towel aside and he reached for my hands. 

"Feel a little bit better?" He asked, moving some hair out of my face. I nodded. "Good. Come on." We head into the living room and I sit on the couch, the tv playing a random episode of Doctor Who. 

"I'll be back with your dinner." A few moments later, Spence comes back holding a tray. He places in front of you. 

"Spence you didn't have to do this." The tray consists of Dino chicken nuggets, canned chicken noodle soup and a packet of cheddar goldfish.

"I wanted to do this. Also, I know you love your carbohydrates but we don't have any bread so I couldn't make you favorite night time sandwich." I chuckled. 

"No, this is perfect." I leaned in for a kiss and our lips molded together, before anything could escalate, Spence pulls back. 

"You need to eat." He motioned at the plate, he got up. 

"Where you going?" I grabbed for his hand. 

"I'll be back, continue eating." 

A couple of seconds passed and Spence walked out, holding my favorite royal blue plush blanket, wrapping it around my shoulders. After I finished eating, I discarded the dishes to the kitchen and snuggled closer to Spence. I wrapped my arm around his torso as we both continued watching the episode.

My eyes stated to slowly shut to hearing Spence's heartbeat. 

"Hey, sleepyhead, let's get you to bed. Come on." Spence grabbed for my hand but I lifted my head and sat in place. "What's wrong?" He asked, facing me. 

"I'm sorry." I simply stated. 

"For what?"

"For being really hard to love sometimes." 

"Why would you think your hard to love?" 

"Because I am." 

He shakes his head and intertwines our hands. "No, your not." 

"Oh, but I am." 

"No, loving you is the best thing I've ever decided to do in this lifetime." 

"Your just saying that to make me feel better about myself." I looked away from him. "Hey, hey, look at me." I looked back at him and he cupped my right cheek, I leaned into his hand. 

"I love you because you have such a beautiful smile that makes me happy, I love getting your goofy crazy good night messages from you, when I'm away on a case. I love how you motivate me every single day to be a better me. I love how you understand me, and when you don’t, you do everything you can to try. I love how you always believe in me. I love how you make an effort with my mom when we go to visit her, because you know how much she means to me. Because you make me laugh so hard. I love you because you are always kind to other people, even if they don’t deserve it. I love how you care deeply about my success and my happiness. I love how you never give up on me, even when I’m at my worst. I love how you may not always agree with my decisions but you always trust me to make them. I lov-" 

Spence stopped when he heard me sniffle. 

"Please stop before my heart bursts out of my chest." I say barely above of whisper. 

"There's been a new study that shows that you can get a heart attack from being too happy. Too much any emotion can cause your heart to weaken an-" Before Spencer could finish his sentence, I crack a laugh, avoiding eye contact. 

Spence raises my chin with his hand. 

"I need you to know that as long as you have me you will never be alone. I will be here and I will always love you." My body molds into Spencer's as I tightly hugged him. 

I pulled away and he wiped my tears away. "There's only one thing I don't love about you." 

I looked up, tears forming again at his words. "I don't love your tears." 

"Their happy tears." I playfully smack his chest. 

"Then those are the only tears that should ever be in your eyes." 

"Thank you for taking care of me." 

"I'll always take care of you."

Ash never knew love. Those three words — “I love you” — had been spoken to him a few times throughout his life, but they were lies. Words of filth. Words spoken through the lips of the men forcing him to his knees, laughing, holding him down by the shoulders and getting off as he shut down. They were words spoken by Dino himself, and any words spoken to Ash by Dino made Ash want to curl up into a ball and die.

The first one to say “I love you,” and maybe, actually, mean it, had been Shorter. It had been spoken casually, but Shorter’s tone had been… tender. Ash remembered that night well. It was another night that Shorter and his sister offered him a place of refuge… and neither of them mocked him when he cried.

Ash hadn’t said anything back, but that was all right — Shorter didn’t need him to. He hadn’t said anything back, but he hadn’t run, either, and that was the only acceptance Shorter needed. Ash still remembered the warmth of Shorter’s hand on his back, and he hadn’t flinched away.

He presses another long kiss to Ash’s lips before pulling apart, soft and the gentlest touch Ash has ever known, and whispers, “You make it so easy to love you.”

This is not the first time that Eiji has whispered him love, but, still, Ash’s breath hitches in his throat.

“How?” he gasps.

The first time Eiji confessed him love, Ash had tried to run. So, they were making progress. Baby steps.

Eiji smiles, and he quotes some Shakespearian poem Ash had shown him. “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…”

Ash blushes red to the roots of his hair. “No, wait. Stop.”

Eiji chuckles. “That is one of the poems your brother loved.”

“I can’t believe you’re using Griff’s corny poetry against me.”

“Technically, it is Shakespeare.”

Ash scowls. “You know what I mean.”

Eiji laughs, and his laughter is light and airy, like wind chimes. Ash’s heart swells in his chest. He reaches out, caresses his hand lightly against Eiji’s cheek. Eiji leans into his touch.

“I love you,” Eiji whispers again, just as vehement as before. “Nothing will ever change that.”

Ash chuckles, cupping Eiji’s cheek in his hand. “You’re a fool.”

Eiji’s brow furrows and the corners of his lips turn down. “Not nice.”

“How much?” Ash whispers.

“How much, what?”

“How much do you love me?”

The corners of his lips turn up again and Eiji smiles. “I thought you did not want me to say?”

“I don’t… want you recite corny love poems at me. But, I’d… I’d like to know,” Ash has never been so soft-spoken. His face is tinged pink and his heart thunders in his chest, scared enough that he might throw up if he were standing. “In your own words. Please. If… if you don’t mind.”

Eiji takes his hand, which rests on the pillow between them, and interlaces their fingers. “Are you frightened?”

“A little,” Ash mumbles.

Eiji squeezes his hand. “Then I will put this in words that you understand. I hope they will not scare you.”

Ash waits, holding his breath.

Reaching up, Eiji’s touch is feather-light as he brushes Ash’s blond bangs from his face. “I love you even more than you love your Nirvana band.”

Both their gazes drop down to the black Nirvana t-shirt Ash is wearing. His eyes widen and he looks back up at Eiji.

“That’s a lot,” he whispers.

“I know,” Eiji whispers back.

“Kurt Cobain’s a fucking legend,” Ash mutters.

Chuckling, Eiji says, “I think you are pretty legendary, too, Ash-u.”

A beat of silence.

Then, Ash groans. Loudly.

“Oh, come on!” he whines, sitting up. His blond hair is wild and sticks out all over the place.

“What?!” Eiji demands. He, too, sits up.

“That was bad, Eiji. Worse than that corny poem.”

“You have called poetry corny three times,” Eiji laughs.

“Because it is!”

“Shakespeare was one of greatest writers in the world.”

“Overrated,” Ash deadpans. Eiji laughs harder.

“I love you,” he breathes out in between peals of laughter.

Suddenly, Ash quiets. Eiji quiets, too, and he smiles sadly.

“Someday it will not hurt so bad,” Eiji says, “Hearing that I love you.”

“How do you know that?”

“Because I know you, Ash-u. You have survived so much… being told you are worthy of love will not kill you, either. I promise.”

“I’m sorry,” Ash mumbles.

“Sorry for what?”

“That I haven’t… that I can’t say it back, yet. You deserve love, Eiji. I’m sorry. You’re so much more worthy of love than… than I am. Than I’ll ever be.”

Eiji smiles. He reaches out and gently pulls Ash closer, all but pulling him into his lap, and they sit face-to-face. Combing his fingers through Ash’s hair, he peers into wide green eyes, and gently presses his lips to Ash’s forehead.

“Ash-u,” he mumbles against Ash’s skin, “You are worthy, too.”

A bird that lived alongside dinosaurs may have used its beak to preen its feathers, as modern birds do. But it also had a full mouth of teeth. These let it chew like a dino. The finding provides new clues to how birds evolved from dinosaurs.

Scientists made a new 3-D reconstruction of the skull of Ichthyornis (Ick-thee-OR-nis) dispar. This bird lived during the Late Cretaceous, some 87 million to 82 million years ago. The new reconstruction shows this creature had a small, primitive beak. Its upper jaw would have moved around easily. Such traits would have let the bird use its beak to precisely groom itself and grab things, much as modern birds do. But I. dispar also kept some features from its dino ancestors. These included teeth and strong jaw muscles.

This ancient bird shows up often in textbooks. Paleontologist Othniel C. Marsh first described the animal some 150 years ago. It was a water bird, similar to a tern. Much like a duck, its wings spanned about 60 centimeters (24 inches). The shape of those wings and its breastbone suggested this bird could fly.

Explainer: How a fossil forms

Another famous fossil flyer is Archaeopteryx (Ar-kee-OP-tur-ix). This extinct reptile lived about 70 million years before I. dispar. Archaeopteryx had a more reptilian skull, notes Bhart-Anjan Bhullar. He’s a vertebrate paleontologist at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. With a beak and fairly large head, the skull of I. disparmuch better resembles those in modern birds, he says.

Several skulls of I. dispar existed at various museums. Still, there was much science didn’t know about these birds, Bhullar says. One reason: Fossils dug up in the 19th century had been smashed flat in places. This made it hard to see a lot of important details. Then, in 2014, researchers unearthed a new I. dispar fossil. It contained a nearly perfect skull.

The researchers combined that fossil with three partial skulls from museum collections. They also took a closer look at the skull found 150 years ago. Bhullar’s team input details from all of these skulls into a computer. It helped to recreate a 3-D image of what the ancient bird would have looked like. Those researchers published it May 3, 2018 in Nature.

Amid budget cuts and mergers, streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max have canceled a huge number of animation projects. If you have work in, or have ambitions of working in, animation, the past few months have likely been painful.

In May, as Netflix’s subscriber count flagged, the platform canceled some of its announced animation projects, including Antiracist Baby, Wings of Fire, and Pearl, an animation project from Meghan Markle. In the world of adult animation, Netflix also scrapped a planned adaptation of the acclaimed adult comic Bone, as well as original series Boons and Curses from animator Jaydeep Hasrajani. 

According to animators reacting at the time, Netflix was once seen as a place where their animation projects could flourish, and these cancellations made their livelihoods more precarious. Hasrajani, for instance, told The Hollywood Reporter that they had planned to ship their first episode on the same day that they learned that their show had been canceled. Chris Nee, who was the showrunner on another canceled animation project, Dino Daycare, tweeted that Netflix was on a “killing spree.”

“As soon as the ink is dry on one, they've moved on to the next. Intense environment to be in,” she said on Twitter.

The same fate seems to have befallen animation projects at HBO Max. After Warner Brothers’ merger with Discovery, the streaming platform has been cutting projects left and right. In the past week, animation projects have been hit especially hard. This is further exacerbated by HBO Max not only canceling projects, but removing them from the platform entirely, including animation projects that are original to the service. 

According to Cartoon Brew, 37 titles were removed from HBO Max, including original projects like Infinity Train and Cartoon Network show Uncle Grandpa. It also canceled the upcoming animated movie Driftwood and a Matt Reeves- and Bruce Timm-produced Batman show, Batman: Caped Crusader.

It’s difficult not to catastrophize about the state of American animation in the wake of this news. While Cartoon Network has saved one of the canceled HBO Max shows, Summer Camp Island, the fate of everything else is up in the air. Some projects, like Driftwood, were greenlit just a few months before their cancellations. If Netflix was on a killing spree, then HBO Max has gone scorched earth. 

Making this more—or less, depending on your perspective—puzzling is the popularity of Japanese animation with U.S. audiences. We now live in the age where Goku from Dragon Ball Z is in Fortnite; where the Jujutsu Kaisen movie premiered at the number two spot on the box office; where Megan Thee Stallion performed in a Sailor Moon-inspired outfit at Tokyo’s Summer Sonic festival; and where rival corporation Sony has already acquired two American anime streaming services, Crunchyroll and Funimation. (HBO Max used to have Crunchyroll branding on the streaming service before Crunchyroll was acquired by Sony.) More recently, HBO Max has acquired the acclaimed anime movie Belle, and it already has extremely popular series like the aforementioned Jujutsu Kaisen, Mob Psycho 100, and Tokyo Revengers. It’s probably easier and cheaper to license an animated project than to make a new one—good news for bottom lines, less so for anything else.

AU fic rample to hopefully get things in my head so when I wake up tomorrow I can be more productive

Okay, so like the section I'm stuck on goes something like:

Been in Izumo for three nights two days. The fair solid part is starting at Inasa Beach at sunset and transferring that birthday conversation to this location. The next day they go to a mountain that overlooks the city where they encounter someone who's unsettling briefly. Then things get a bit more ???. I know that the next day after this they go to thee shrine then that evening they end up at Eiji's parents place because this trip kind of happened because Eiji's parents extended an olive branch back at New Years because this is a working towards a happy ending AU kind of fic. Like it's tolerance but you know it's the 90's what can you do.

Anyway, so like somewhere in there I do want to get to a scene in which we can see that Eiji still kind of feels effects of New York. When I started this fic I ran into a canon timeline that claimed the story runs from 1985 to early 1987, but when I watched the anime it really seemed like from the start of the story to rescuing Ash from Dino's it takes more like almost a year, so then I realized that the only way to make this actually work properly is that they must have been holding off and encountering Foxx's group for like a year-ish give or take. So that level of making sure you survive this nonsense has to stick with a person, right? And I want to kind of touch on even though Ash and Eiji have been in Japan for over three years at this point in the fic, Eiji's still got a bit of that to work through though he's getting better about it. So that's a scene floating around too.

As it's looking I think a rough outline where it's all kind of ??? for me is something like:

Izumo shrine (which I don't think will actually be a scene but will be mentioned)

The visit with Eiji's family is nothing unusual. There's no trap, no manipulation, it's just dinner (maybe not really a fleshed out scene with dialogue and such just idek???)

Eiji and his mom have some kind of moment because what perpetuated the whole olive branch thing is that in her heart she knows she's going to lose him again and the next time he goes, they will probably never speak again for everyone's safety or something (this will be an actual proper scene but more of a show more than tell kind of thing)

That night, Eiji wakes up with a gasp and kind of has to make sure everything is indeed safe. Not in like an OCD way but like in the way you do a final check of the house/hotel room before bed way. Kind of a he woke up not expecting to be there and has to just look kind of something something. I wrote this part already it's placing it within the story that's part of this juggling act)

Then they like go home and we resume th fic as is

So I just got to figure out how to put it to words or if I need to rethink certain things or perhaps I'm trying to assign the wrong scene(s) to Ash which is what's also throwing off the Eiji scenes which I think were assigned correctly. I thought putting Eiji's night thing at the end of th trip might work better than where I had it after I moved it to this section, and I still think that's likely the right placement.

Anyway, I just needed to empty my brain so hopefully I'll figure this out. The solution might be anything including different plot points than I've got or even reworking the last scene that functioned properly to see if part of the problem is a flow problem stemming from the way that scene ended. Perhaps upon changing the location of everything in this section from the original draft I have enough material to make plot points out of that the ominous foreshadowing bit can be scrapped for something else. That might be the actual problem. We'll see how it goes

Sunday sermon 11-18-18

Mark 2

A bird that lived alongside dinosaurs may have used its beak to preen its feathers, as modern birds do. But it also had a full mouth of teeth. These let it chew like a dino. The finding provides new clues to how birds evolved from dinosaurs.

Scientists made a new 3-D reconstruction of the skull of Ichthyornis (Ick-thee-OR-nis)dispar. This bird lived during the Late Cretaceous, some 87 million to 82 million years ago. The new reconstruction shows this creature had a small, primitive beak. Its upper jaw would have moved around easily. Such traits would have let the bird use its beak to precisely groom itself and grab things, much as modern birds do. But I. dispar also kept some features from its dino ancestors. These included teeth and strong jaw muscles.

This ancient bird shows up often in textbooks. Paleontologist Othniel C. Marsh first described the animal some 150 years ago. It was a water bird, similar to a tern. Much like a duck, its wings spanned about 60 centimeters (24 inches). The shape of those wings and its breastbone suggested this bird could fly.

Explainer: How a fossil forms

Another famous fossil flyer is Archaeopteryx (Ar-kee-OP-tur-ix). This extinct reptile lived about 70 million years before I. dispar. Archaeopteryx had a more reptilian skull, notes Bhart-Anjan Bhullar. He’s a vertebrate paleontologist at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. With a beak and fairly large head, the skull of I. disparmuch better resembles those in modern birds, he says.

Several skulls of I. dispar existed at various museums. Still, there was much science didn’t know about these birds, Bhullar says. One reason: Fossils dug up in the 19th century had been smashed flat in places. This made it hard to see a lot of important details. Then, in 2014, researchers unearthed a new I. dispar fossil. It contained a nearly perfect skull.

The researchers combined that fossil with three partial skulls from museum collections. They also took a closer look at the skull found 150 years ago. Bhullar’s team input details from all of these skulls into a computer. It helped to recreate a 3-D image of what the ancient bird would have looked like. Those researchers published it May 3 in Nature.

It sat in front of Glenn for an hour- he thanked me- but didn’t eat. So I asked Dino if he wanted it [he was actually sleeping at the table] and he said sure. As we talked- we realized we were both born in the same town- Hoboken. I talked with him some more after I turned off the video.
