When one door closes, another opens. That's why there are so many raccoons living in your house. Welcome to Night Vale.

A group of surprised bedraggled sailors arrives in NV, their boat having been dashed to pieces on the desert floor when the ocean suddenly disappeared from under it. People saw lights and heard the splintering sound of the boat hitting the desert. The SSP make some citizens give their homes to these sailors.

Brandi Lantz (of the Onyx Fist), says she believes there was a mutiny shortly before the crash due to how awkward all the sailors are around each other. Cecil says it might not mean that, pointing to how strange and avoidant of the whole situation that Carlos is still being and how that doesn't mean something is wrong.

Madeleine LeFleur (of the Tourism Board) wants to expand the NV waterfront to capitalise on this phantom ocean despite having no control over, backed up by Annette Mahaka head of the Business Association but opposed by the Marine Biologist Association.

The two groups end up fighting after plans for an aquarium are uncovered and resented by the Marine Biologists. Cecil is visted by the Captain (of the sailors) and also called by Carlos who wishes to meet him on the roof of the community college which greatly relieves Cecil. The Captain seems pretty sure that they're 'doomed'. Cecil sneaks out to meet Carlos, leaving a dummy of himself he crafted to take his place.

Weather: “Source Decay” by Holy Sons

One of Cecil and Carlos' first interactions was when Cecil was lecturing at the community college and Carlos was there talking to some scientists. Carlos took him to the roof to see a pillar of dark smoke that can only be seen from that exact angle. Cecil pointed out he could see his apartment from there too and Carlos' compliments the shingles which is the first compliment he ever gave. Cecil used to think of it often.

A citizen called Tara Arya is mentioned, she's won a nobel prize for her mathmatical poetry.

The sailors are called The Captain (who was staying with Sigrid Borg who keeps requesting for Cecil to stop saying she's part of the Witness Protection Programme), Doctor Shouty, Rebecca (both of those two are staying with the baristas), Old Wood Teeth (staying with the Wallaby family - Megan showed him some submarines but he didn't believe they were real, so they rented Crimson Tide which didn't change his beliefs but did make him boy-crazy for Denzel Washington) and The Really Tall One who is staying with the Palmer-Carlsberg family and has taught them some nautical songs and navigation tricks whilst Janice taught her about some technology. All of them give off a foul odor of ozone, copper and shrimp when they sleep.

Deb tells everyone to check the 'eyeball donation' box on the back of their drivers license which in theory would allow their eyes to be harvested (should they die in an accident) and given to someone who has lost their eyes (in an accident) thus allowing the citizens consciousness to exist still in the new body (consciousness in stored in the back of the eyes). If another accident should occur and the eyes transferred again, both consciousness' would be transferred and so on and so forth creating technical immortality.

6. Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?

Invisible Kingdom by G Willow Wilson and Christian Ward. I love Willow's work on Ms Marvel, and Ward's art is unbelievably beautiful so I'm excited to read their independent work... eventually. I've checked it out from the library like 3 times but just never ended up reading it before my hold expired. Also Hullmetal Girls by Emily Skrutskie. I fell in love with the chapter 1 preview she shared back before it was released and so I pre-ordered it, but I just haven't made time to sit down and read it yet

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

Oh man oh man oh man ok, I have 3 answers to this and they're all Marvel comics by Al Ewing. I've loved Ewing's work in the past (Loki: Agent of Asgard my beloved), but I wasn't expecting much from these 3 for structural reasons and yet they all completely blew me away

Empyre. This was a comic crossover event, which is when a bunch of disparate superheroes get dragged into whatever threat is happening this week. I despise comic events. They're never good, there's too many of them, and they highjack and derail the characters' current story arcs. But oooooooh my god Empyre was so good. It centered one of my favorite characters, which was a delight to see since he's spent the 15 years since he was first introduced basically being a supporting character to his boyfriend. It gave him a ton of development, a great new status quo, and it finally resolved and delivered on major story threads and promises about him that have been laid out over the past 15 years (which in superhero comics is depressingly rare. Too many story threads just get dropped and forgotten, especially when it's been years). We also finally, finally got to see him and his boyfriend get married not once but twice

Guardians of the Galaxy (2020). My only exposure to the GotG was the MCU movies which I disliked so I wasn't expecting to like this but it was unbelievably fantastic. This single comic run gave me: 1) an entire issue of an incredibly traumatized hero getting therapy for the first time and showing it's now a regular thing for him 2) a love triangle with an irl decade of writing behind it and in story years of fighting side by side and shared traumas and victories behind it, resolving in polyamory 3) an entire issue where all of the heroes kill the greek gods off screen and the focus is instead on the two lesbian members of the team fixing their marriage. While also killing a greek god. 4) one of said lesbians has a dragon-themed superpower which is fucking sick 5) Hercules, like the literal greek demigod, being unbelievably emotionally intelligent 6) Zeus wearing a lighting bolt shaped tit window 7) bi Starlord, which hopefully haunts crisp rat's nightmares 8) overall just heaps and heaps of fun, angsty, ridiculous superhero comic nonsense

Marvel 1000. This was an anthology comic Marvel released celebrating their 80th anniversary. Every year from 1939 got a single one page comic by a different author commemorating something notable that happened in Marvel comics that year. I love superhero anthologies, and I adore a few of the individual pages about my favorite characters, but Ewing (who wrote the largest chunk of pages) somehow managed to write in an interesting overarching plot. In a history based anthology with dozens of writers. I'm still flabbergasted that this was possible like how the fuck- that's not- you can't just- how- HOW?

Hey I saw you'd been reading some Maggie Steifvater recently and was wondering if you'd read The Scorpio Races by her, and if so what you thought of it? I haven't read many of her books but I really enjoyed that one ❤️❤️

yes!!! the Scorpio races has been my favorite book since I was a child!!! I got it in the scholastics catalogue when I was like 12 and absolutely fell in love— that book specifically has really shaped me as a writer

like Puck and Sean’s romance is still The romance like, the scene where they wrap Corr’s leg in seaweed, Sean holding Puck’s wrist to feel her pulse, literally everything,

and I love the characters so much— the relationship between Puck and her brothers is So well done, like her protectiveness over Finn to the point where she hasn’t noticed that he’s aging versus the way that she needs Gabe to stay on Thisby bc she needs someone looking out for her… it’s so Good

and don’t get me started on Sean he can be so early 2010s YA but I forgive him bc I Adore him… I literally think about the scene where Mutt takes Corr and Sean is standing w his knuckles pressed against his lips every day of my Life that Scene

I reread it at least once a year but I’ve definitely read it like 20+ times. it is so formative to me as a reader and a writer and I absolutely Adore it

the world always needs more Michelle/Maureen so let's go with that, I think it would be really interesting to explore how Maureen was doing after the year 4 arc with the weird evil puppy? but yeah, there's got to be some lasting trauma from that, and also probably guilt because she almost brought her home to ruin. I feel like that would just be interesting to explore, and would probably make for a good hurt/comfort fic! and you could also simultaneously explore how Maureen and Michelle's relationship went from acquaintances to "dating, or, whatever" and that would be cool too!

I started out on fanfiction.net and fanfiktion.de (a German side, I think it was fanfiktion and not fanfiction 🤔so many years ago!). After finding AO3 ff.net could not really hold me to be honest. The filters were terrible, the the format of the side uncomfortable to read on... Maybe today it's better! Is it true that ff.net has now adds?

Maybe I will take a look at it for Unca and Alice 😊

Kili/Tauriel was cute and I really like them together, maybe I am just a heavy non-canon shipper 🤔 I do have my canon ships too, naturally, but a lot of my ships were never canon. What I like about Fili/Sigrid, at least what is put out in ff work: differences in dwarf and human culture actually both were poor and both got rich again, but Sigrid never thought she would be rich and Fili knew that he is the heir to the throne and actually rich as soon as the dragon is gone family dynamics (her dad his uncle/kinda dad do not really like each other 🤣) all the possible misunderstandings 😍 and still coming out on top of it being happy together 😍😍 For me Kili/Tauriel were the secondary ship 🤣 But always a must! 😤

In regards to your statment of not judging ships, we are on the same page. It is important to understand that fiction is not reality. Naturally fiction can most likley will always be inspired by reality and that fiction can help to form opinions that can reach reality, that's why you have to be aware of this and always reflect on the media one consumes. But it's hard work and tiresome and a lot of times very painful.

In regards to uncomfortable, that reminds me somewhat of the genre Horror. I would guess, I would hope, that people enjoy the thrill and everything of Horror but would not want the stories they consume to happen to them in real life. Does this mental jump make sense? 😅 Just because you enjoy some media does not mean you want it to happen IRL. Like Zombie apocalypse, or any apocalypse, I hope nobody wants that to happen for real... To "live" in these worlds while reading/watching etc. in exciting but you are happy to not live in them at the end of the day IRL.

My credo is "live and let live" and "tag your posts/stories on AO3 or whatever right, so people can at least enjoy their experience on a side that should be enjoyable, reality sucks enough".

Oh, I never really followed Once Upon A Time TV show to be honest, I just know some of the characters but not really in depth.

Sansa/Sandor are actually my OTP, my main pairing I read about in the fandom. But Arya/Gendry, Shireen/Rickon, Brienne/Jaime I love too. There are some characters I do not really care about, like Bran or Jon. They can do whatever they want 😁 But I am not a Sansa/Jon shipper, that never peaked my interest.

Star Trek Voyager is acutally MY Star Trek. I love 7 of 9 very very much, and Icheb 💜💜💜💜 If you enjoy Borg there are a lot of episodes with them in Voyager, in the later season.

I do not have a lot of hope for George Martin to finish the books for A song of ice and fire 😤🙄😒😑 At least the fandom is still writing for the characters and there so much material out there that one can read for a long long time 💜💜💜

Oh! Ginny and Draco! That sound quite interesting. I don't know why but Ginny was never a character I thought I need to read more about. Maybe I like Hermione more because of her interest in knowledge and am not really interested in sports/Quidditch like Ginny is. 🤷‍♀️ But I do love Ginny as a side character NOT being with Harry anymore! All the options all the Slytherins 🤣 Same goes for Luna and Neville, or even Harry. I just like to pair them with the following Slytherins: Theodore Nott Blaise Zabini Astoria Greengrass Pansy Parkinson Daphne Greengrass I like a redemption arc after character saw the truth, especially if they were "evil" children. I do not think that any child or teenager is born evil, I think their "parents" are the actuall problem. The power dynamic between parents and children is extremly off balance. In fiction and reality.

OMG! YES! Darcy get's shipped with all the people in the Marvel unvierse. I kinda like it! But for me she always with Bucky, it's kinda a niche ship I know 🤣 I just really like that she does not take shit from anybody and says it like she sees it. But without being an acutall asshole. At least that's how I see her. 🤷‍♀️

(Cotton Candy is actually my favorite ice cream flavor, so kudos to you) This isn’t really something I think about a lot, but some kinda neat (and v random) places off the top of my head might be Seattle, London/England, Seattle, and Chicago. (I’ve been to Chicago before, but it would be cool to go back.)

cookie dough: do you play any instruments? No, but I really wish I could! It would be cool to learn something like guitar or piano, but it would take a lot of work, especially since I can’t even read sheet music

1. What is your favourite food/beverage? favourite food is atm I would say is probably beef stew that my mum made <3 she usually makes lamb stew in the slowcooker but this time it was beef in the dutch oven on the stove is was really yummy

favourite beverage would be tea (english/ melbourne breakfast) but coming into spring i think my fav drink this summer will be lemon lime and bitters :-)

2. What is your favourite fandom [currently]? I'm not really into fandom spaces that much anymore, but until mystery skulls animated updates again the one that I'm following the closest is the owl house, not that I actually watch it 😅 I just love the fanart

3. What shows are you watching [currently]? Gravity Falls rewatch!! I also want to start re watching Bones but I don't think it's worth the amazon prime subscription.....

4. What’s your strength? Hmmmm I wanna say my ability to not give a fuck about what people think about me, like just wearing what I want even if it might look a bit weird

5. What’s your weakness? over thinking and not being able to do anything anymore without having music or a youtube video or a movie on in the background

Pet peeves? idk if it counts if it's only at work, but people who drive way too fast in the basement and almost hit me, people who don't breakup their cardboard boxes in the cardboard bin, people who block the bin chutes with cardboard (i have to unblock them) and people who just dump hard rubbish in the little cupboard where the bin chutes are on their floor, or who dump big pieces of hard rubbish on B1 at the bin room (last week was a whole fridge, and I bet it's still there because my manager couldn't give less than two fucks about it).

How To Make Your Own Clown Doll ! (A Guide)

Hello good people !!

I have made a few clown dolls before, and someone submitted a question asking if I followed any guide for them or had a guide myself. I sorta made it up as I went for the first doll, but I have learned better methods of doing things since then!

Here is my guide on how to make some dudes for yourself!

You will need:

Fabric for the body - I used an off-white fleece for the torso and limbs for this one, but have previously used a thin off-white sorta cotton fabric, which works better if you want floppier/thinner limbs!

Fabric for the clothes - Use whatever you want, honestly! I used some cool stretchy silver-metallic fabric for mine but have previously used cotton and polyester patterned fabrics !

Polymer clay - I used Sculpey III for this one, but for my previous two I used some other kind of Sculpey that was very very light and airy, which made it hard to sculpt properly without squishing it! If you want to add any detail to the face shape, use some firm polymer clay !

Posca pens (optional) and acrylic paints - Acrylics are used for the base coat on the head. I used the paints for the details too previously, but used posca pens on this one which was much easier to do the face details with! Either works just fine, though : )

Faux fur - for hair! If you want a bald clown or one with just a hat without hair, you don't need this!

Decorative trims and such - I used some pink frilly elastic trim, blue dotted non-elastic trim, white elastic frilly mesh, buttons, a silver bell and some blue velvet ribbon for this guy! You can literally use whatever you want (ribbons, bows, pom-poms, lace, etc) to make your clown look cute!!

Varnish - Use spray varnish if you can! It'll help prevent the face paint from smudging (all 3 of mine have had this happen using varnish with a brush). It is possible to use varnish with a brush on them but be careful with it! I used sculpey gloss varnish.

Tin/aluminium foil

Basic sewing supplies (needles, thread, pins, scissors)

Steps

1. Make a ball out of the foil, a little smaller than the size you want the finished head.

2. Cover it in a layer of Sculpey and sculpt the face shape you want. Include a pretty thick neck with the base at the bottom WIDER than the rest of the neck. This will be how the head is anchored to the body!

3. Bake the clay, let it cool, and sand it down so that it is nice and even without any finger-prints!

4. Paint a base coat on it with acrylic paints!

5. Paint/draw on whatever face details you want using acrylics or posca pens! Let your creativity flow!!

6. Varnish it!

7. Draw out the body pieces (torso and limbs) on your body fabric. You'll need two torso pieces, four leg pieces and four arm pieces. Honestly there's no method to what shape to draw, just draw what shapes you want them to be! (Remember to reverse each second piece though so that they match up when sewing them together). I used a rounded rectangle for the torso, and chose to make the legs on mine very long!

8. Cut out all the pieces and sew them together with the CORRECT sides facing INWARDS and the WRONG sides facing outwards. Once sewn, flip them inside out. MAKE SURE TO LEAVE THE TOP SIDE OF THE TORSO UN-SEWN TO INSERT THE HEAD!

9. Almost fully fill the body with plastic pellets, and only partially fill the limbs (I filled them about 1/4 full)! If you don't have those, use dry rice like I did (or dry lentils) or sand! If you use sand, ensure sure you make your stitches REALLY close together so sand doesn't come out of any gaps! If you want the limbs to be chunkier, fill them with more pellets OR stuff the rest of them with poly-fill or cotton wool!

10. Insert the neck into the torso and sew the opening tight around it, like this! The wide base of the neck stops the head from coming out : )

11. Sew on the limbs! The stitching doesn't have to be perfect here since the clothes will hide it!

12. Make the clothes! You can make whatever kind of clothing you like; I just made a baggy little jumpsuit sorta thing for my guy! To do this, I laid the clown out on the fabric and roughly drew the shape for clothes around him based on what I wanted! Flip it, lay it down in the fabric again and then trace this to get the second jumpsuit piece!

13. Use the same method of sewing the pieces together with the CORRECT sides facing each other so the WRONG sides are facing outwards. Then turn the clothes inside-out so that the right sides are now facing outwards! MAKE SURE TO LEAVE OPENINGS FOR THE HEAD AND LIMBS TO COME OUT THROUGH!

14. Put the clothes on the clown!!

15. (Optional) Glue fake fur on the top of the head in the style you want it! I used hot glue because I didn't have anything else, but fabric glues and all-purpose glues would be good too! If you don't want hair, just skip this step!

16. (Optional) Hat!! Cut out a wide triangle shape, sew the opposite sides together and then sew a circle to the base if you want a pointy hat like my dude's one (I don't have photos of this sadly but I'm sure there's a tutorial out there of how to sew a cone)! Then glue the base to the top of the head.

16. And finally, add all the trims and extra bits you want to make them look super cute !!! I just sewed on some ribbon to the base of the hat and around the ankles, sewed some frilly elastic trims around the neck, added a little silver bell to the hat, sewed frilly trim around the wrists and ankles and then sewed two buttons onto the front of his clothes!

And then, your little clown is done !!!
