God must have cursed the blood in your veins for you to have caught the attention of three violent, scary, men like Soap, Ghost and König. Whether you think they could share is up to your personal wants, but once an outsider comes in view, especially someone as lowly as a rookie recruit? Their plans are now on hold until this problem is taken care of.
Soap is the most vocal of his distaste at first. It comes off of a casual jealousy, and it can even be seen as cute or silly. Yet, the pure hatred in his eyes tell a whole different story then what he lets on.
König tends to let it boil inside. Honestly, if you didn't see how intense his stare was when you were talking to them, you wouldn't know at all how he was feeling. That's how he wants it.
Ghost understands, he really does. Being on base so long and seeing someone as attractive as you? He can't fault them at all. But his tightly closed fists hovering over his knife when the recruit gets a little too close reminds them that it doesn't matter if he understands.
Now, the recruit still proceeds. Does he really think he can go up agist them? That he actually has a chance? Or is he just stupid. It really doesn't matter, because they take it as a threat.

The night is dark, and the chilly air slowly seeps into the building, leaving a draft. The hallway is dim, and most people have already left. You would have left too if the new recruit, Kevin, hadn't stopped you.
"Sorry, you're probably in a hurry to get back," he chuckles softly.
You shake your head. "It's okay, what did you need?"
"Well, I just wanted to..." His eyes raise up and he notices someone behind you. Before you can look, he continues in a much more confident manner. "Would you like to go out this Saturday?"
You pause to think about it. "Yeah, okay, sounds like fun!"
He glances back behind you, a prideful look in his eyes.
"Great! I'll text you the information!" He grabs your hand and places a kiss on your knuckle. "Until then, love." He leaves, giving a wink to the person behind you.
You turn to leave, realizing that Simon was behind you.
"Sorry! Didn't see you there!" You give a polite smile and head on your way.
Simon stays there for a while, his dark eyes lacking any emotion.
Ah, so not only is he an idiot, but he also thinks he has a chance and wants to brag about it.
Simon waits for a moment more before pulling out his phone.

Kevin awakes at the loud bang at his door. Slowly, he walks to the door. He knows who it is. You can't flirt with Ghost's interest and get away with it, but he knew that. Kevin almost laughs at how predictable Ghost is.
"I was wondering when you were going to show-" His words were knocked out of his mouth as soon as his door was opened. He didn't predict that Soap and König would be on the other side.
Blood leaked out of his mouth where soap had hit him, and he wondered if he really did fuck up.
"What happened to your smugness? Thought you were askin' for a fight?" Soap stepped into his room. "I've been wantin' to do this for a long while." Soap says, stretching out the word long.
"Pathetic." König's voice rung out, rattling Kevins body. "You thought you were actually good enough for them? You aren't even good enough to feed the worms that live underneath the soil they stand on."
"Are you seriously doing this because of one person? You're fucking crazy." Kevin spits out some blood, "Listen I'm sorry, I was just trying to bang a hot-" His voice was cut off once again by soap's fist, sending him lying on the floor.
"Maybe you only hang around sleezy people, but they aren't somethin' you just bang." Soap sends another punch, this time sending two teeth down Kevin's throat. "Scum."
His scream rings out as König's heavy boot comes down on his leg, a sicking snap following. "It's also unforgivable if you say that you just want to fool her and break her heart."
The sheer force of König's stomp had broken his leg in half.
A new voice appears, as loud footsteps enter the room.
"You learn your lesson?" Simon questions, his eyes holding that same look as before.
"Yes! Please stop, please!" Kevin cries out.
"Good." Simon reaches a hand for Kevin to take. He grabs it, hoping to be pulled up and brought to get help, but his hope is crushed when Ghost yanks him, twisting his arm and swiftly breaking it too.
"Stay the fuck away from them."

You were feeling sour as Sunday arrived. Kevin had gotten into a fight with another new recruit and ended up with a broken arm and leg. On top of that, he would rather run away than admit that he completely ignored you all week.
Your mood shifted when Soap suggested hanging out with Ghost, König, and him. That sounded better than spending time with someone like Kevin. Besides, you always felt safer when you were with them.
At least that's what they wanted you to think.

Bumps in the night always spooked you as a kid. Paired with the silent and dark room you were supposed to be kept in, the only comfort you sought was the cold chill that came to your side.
You called him Cubby. Mostly because your visions of him were that of a lion cub's head upon a boy's body. He was just fine with his nickname, even if at first he insisted to be called Benji.
As you grew, you merely assumed your imaginary friend would go away. You'd move, know new friends, even try new activities. And yet, Cubby was always there with you. Even if you'd forgotten to talk to him or even look his way.
It wasn't until you brought your first real boyfriend over at 19 that Cubby lost his innocent feelings for you.
Oh, but this wasn't a case of love lost... This was a case of passion.
Whenever your partner would start anything sexual with you, Benji would throw something breakable or flicker the lights. If that didn't happen to work, well... A few nightmares are more than effective at destroying the sexual tension.
The absolute last straw was when he appeared himself as a shadowy figure watching you two. Your partner's lips were caressing your neck, though they stopped in horror upon seeing his form.
"What the FUCK is that?!" "What? There's nothing there, love! I-" "Nonono, I've HAD IT!"
Just like that, they're pulling up their pants and shuffling out of the apartment. "I am NEVER coming over again (Y/N), do you hear me?! Every time I come to fuck you, some freaky ass shit happens and I'm tired of it! Some fuckin' curse is cockblocking me and you know what? You can live with that! I'm not gonna deal with all that!"
The next few hours were spent crying on your soft bed. You couldn't bear the thought of having your first shot at losing your first time being cursed to fail.
When familiar cold hands hold yours, you look up to see... A man? A lion mask laid right next to him, with a kind green within his eyes. "Did your date not go well, (N/N)?"
"...I know you chased them off, Benji."
"I did you a favor! If anything, you should thank me for chasing off someone only after your body!"
"You didn't know them... How could you-"
"Because I've known you since we were kids. You're a stunning lady now... Men and women are going to want to take what you have and leave you to die. But..." He pulled you into an embrace, "I would never chase someone who truly loved you away."
And he does keep to his word! It's just too bad that every partner you've had didn't love you enough into his eyes. Your last partner really irked him...
The only one who earned enough of his ire to have him killed.
Taking control of their body, he walks them all the way to a nearby zoo. Slipping through the safeguards and bars, Benji slips back out of their body and leaves them within the exhibit's cage.
"Man found mauled inside of the Sea Lion attraction!" The headline reads from your notifications. You couldn't believe it when your partner's face was paired next to the famed sea lions of the zoo.
"Why would they do it... They love animals, but they'd never..." Benji's hand holds your shoulder, "Some people just get way too comfortable messing with animals, (N/N)..."

Do you think that one of the things that attracted YWS to SQ is also SQ’s quiet confidence? Throughout the story, I don’t think SQ ever doubts his own abilities or feels sorry for himself. He appears to simply accept his injuries and a and just…adjusts to accommodate them and moves onward. Where YWS is all arrogance and showy confidence (and with the firepower to actually back it up), SQ is more like “I really don’t want to fight you but I will wipe the floor with you if you persist”. They are flip sides of the same coin. I think despite what he tells SQ about not qualifying as a rival, YWS did respect SQ’s abilities and tenacity, because he repeatedly tests SQ and chooses to stalk-…ahem, spend time with him. YWS strikes me as someone who loses interest in people quickly, and wouldn’t waste his time on anyone whom he thought was anything less than worthy (scientific experiment or otherwise). I also have cursed thoughts about how Lao Yan hasn’t had sex in a decade when he first encounters this intriguingly resilient and pretty guy. Just sayin’…LMAO
ahaha the hilarious thing is that Yan Wushi explains to Shen Qiao multiple times why he likes him, but the problem is, The Betrayal happened so Shen Qiao is like "hilarious. okay Yan-zongzhu why are you REALLY here" until Yan Wushi is just like 说了你都不信 / I TOLD you and you don't believe me
off the top of my head, there's this moment time in chapter... 78? 79?
...晏无师笑道:“食色性也,人人如此,我的确喜欢你的容貌,却更爱你对我爱答不理的冷淡,这又有什么不好承认的?..."
Yan Wushi laughed and said, "Food and sex are human nature--all people are so. While I am quite fond of your appearance, I love your aloof coolness more. Why shouldn't I admit this?..."
there's definitely another time when Shen Qiao is like 贫道何德何能得到晏宗主如此青睐 / What great virtue or ability does this lowly Daoist have to earn sect leader Yan's favor? but like, in that particular brand of Shen Qiao Deadpan (TM) and Yan Wushi just smiles and goes 你既有德又有能 / On the contrary, you are in possession of both great virtue and ability and it's like okay, okay sir, we get it you're in love but very understandably, Shen Qiao does not get it then
so like, yes, Yan Wushi is rather taken with both Shen Qiao's capability and virtue, determination and persistence, but I think that, despite his occasional lines to the contrary, Yan Wushi is most intrigued by the fact that Shen Qiao is--okay hear me out--a worthy opponent from day one
like you said anon, I think Yan Wushi is absolutely the kind of person who would lose interest in other people quickly, which is precisely why Shen Qiao is so intriguing
he starts out as a science experiment, right? Yan Wushi is on a walk and happens across Shen Qiao's body and is like "oh free sect leader? I'll take him, and see if I can turn him evil and/or drive him mad," because in Yan Wushi's worldview, those are the only two possible roads that Shen Qiao can take after Shen Qiao has lost so much
and what does Shen Qiao immediately do? prove Yan Wushi wrong
Shen Qiao, even while amnesiac, is locked in constant battle with Yan Wushi, except this isn't a contest of martial skill--the two of them are engaged in an ideological battle. Yan Wushi believes in the inevitable corruptibility of human nature. Shen Qiao plans to prove him wrong simply by being himself. Yan Wushi plans to prove Shen Qiao wrong by doing his literal worst. Shen Qiao, when he hears news of the impending attempt on Yan Wushi's life, decides to go back and save him not just for the greater political picture, but also because he wants to prove Yan Wushi wrong. literally, Shen Qiao says:
“我没有你想的那么伟大,我只是希望能再见那个人一面,看一看他的脸上失望的样子,让他知道,我没有被种下魔心,我也没有被魔心控制,我还是我。”
"I'm not as noble as you think. I just want to see that person one more time, to see the disappointed expression on his face and let him know that the demonic core didn't take in my heart, that I have not been controlled by the demonic core, that I am still me."
(not to say that Shen Qiao was like "I'm gonna go save this man's life out of SPITE" but like. he kinda did say that)
what's one of the first things we learn about Yan Wushi? it's that he's obsessed with the battle, the fight, the contest. the improvement of oneself and the triumphing over the other. he'll take risks, break taboos, invent new paths of cultivation to climb higher in martial achievement. he's really goddamn competitive, so it should come as no surprise that when Shen Qiao continually defeats him on the level of the ideological simply by refusing to roll over and die, of course Yan Wushi is going to pay attention. when was the last time someone had the audacity to remain stubbornly undefeated like this out of sheer will?
I do think that the Ruoqiang arc in general, and specifically the fall-out from the ambush is an extremely important tipping point in Yan Wushi's character development. it's one thing for Shen Qiao to save Yan Wushi's life--a life for a life, they're pretty much even now--but Shen Qiao continues to go above and beyond in protecting Yan Wushi. Shen Qiao himself doesn't think much of it, just considers it the logical thing to do (救人救到底,送佛送到西), but this is Yan Wushi we're talking about. when was the last time someone took care of Yan Wushi, tended his wounds, defended him ferociously, fought to bring him to safety? Yan Wushi cannot deny that Shen Qiao has shown Yan Wushi--heck, not just Yan Wushi, but also Xie Ling, the weakest and least worthy form of Yan Wushi--an unutterable amount of kindness, tenderness, and care, that I'm willing to bet Yan Wushi hasn't seen in decades
tl;dr despite all of his protests to the contrary, Yan Wushi never stood a goddamn chance

manic moves and drowsy dreams
warnings: final arc spoilers, proceed at your own risk
He was dying. Draken could tell, he was dying. He tried not to think about what was happening to him, it was obviously a lot more terrifying when you were actually perishing. But he had more important things to think about.
You’re out of touch
Sano Manjirou, a boy of whom was in need of a smack in the face and a good old wake up call. To be taken back to reality, out of this poison fairyland he was being held captive in. Even so, he was also needing a tight, comforting hug that could last lifetimes, and a whisper of comfort, something to assure him that he would be fine, that things will some day go back to normal, that all he needed to do is smile. You see, this boy was drowning. Drowning in pain for losing some of those who he had loved and treated him best, just as he did towards them. Drowning in fury for not being able to save them, to hold their hand even if they didn’t understand. Because of this, the fine line between right and wrong had blurred together, causing Mikey to make choices of which he would never even think about with a clear head. He was hurting and confused, and Draken was determined to help him.
Was; is the key word.
I’m out of time
Now, he was dying. He had been shot three times in his torso in an attempt to protect Takemichi and Senju, thus sacrificing his life for their’s. It was worth it though, he knew Senju would take care of Takemichi when he was gone. And Takemichi can save Mikey for him. Even though he would blame it all on himself, he knew Hanagaki could persist. But god, it was so frustrating. He didn’t want to die, it was bone chilling. Leaving your family and friends without even saying goodbye. Not being able to see his current boyfriend, Inui Seishu, and their bike shop ever again.
“Fuck.” He cursed at himself, eyes beginning to sting with tears. “I don’t wanna go yet.”
But I’m out of my head
Ever since Mikey had abandoned Toman and never spoke to them ever again, things had actually began brightening up for Draken. Because of Toman’s disband, he was allowed to live his life, his real life. He was given the chance to finally open his dream bike shop with the help of Inui, who he later grew a liking to and ended up asking him out. He knew it was still unfair to Inupi though, even if he was the one kissing Draken, the latter really was thinking of someone else. Seishu seemed to have the tendency of attracting people who could use him. Still, it wasn’t just Draken’s life that was turning around.
Pah-chin and Peh-yan for example, those idiots were kick starting a well paying business now. A business. It still felt like a distant dream imagining Pah-chin, the supposed dumbass third division captain of Toman, and Peh-yan, the other half of the former’s brain, helping people find a place to stay in and call a home.
And Chifuyu. Well, it really wasn’t that surprising. Sure, he practically owned the exact same and shared brain cells with Takemichi, but he was a pretty smart kid. Now look at him, going well for his first year in senior high while part timing in a pet shop after school. Draken was sure to cheer him further on in the afterlife.
But don’t get him started on Mitsuya. He could go on and on, bragging about how successful the other Twin Dragon had been so far with his dream career as a fashion designer. He was already looking for a place to call an office with the help of Pah and Peh. He couldn’t wait to hear his name being spoken of as famous designer in the near future.
Life was actually going really well, even without the presence of Mikey, of who still had Draken’s heart in his hand and forever would.
That really would be the only downfall of Draken’s life: not being able to share it with his best friend or lover or enemy, but whatever he was to Mikey, he’d accept it. If he at least was able to even speak or look at him in person, then he’d take any title the boy could give him. He would throw away his whole life for him, well maybe not all of it, in a heart beat just for Mikey. If he could even steal at least a glance, a single stare, that would allow him set for the rest of his life.
But if he was greedy? If he could drop his mask of wisdom and knowledge for a moment with Mikey and got to choose how it happened? He would meet him at the front of Shibuya shrine. Just as he did that night, they would be facing each other, the wind blowing their hair around the place, yet not enough to distract them from the sight of the other. And they would just look at each other. It could last hours.
It drove him mad, how much he desired Mikey.
When you’re not around
Even so, there was nothing he could do about it anymore. Everything was going dark now, blank. All the voices were going softer and softer, until he couldn’t hear them at all. The tear that had been forming was finally rolling down his cheek, just as his soul drifted away slowly from the world. This world was cruel, but boy was it rewarding too. He prayed a silent thanks to any god that was listening for introducing all the people he knew into his life. From his once crush, Sano Emma, to his father figure, Masaway. Draken was sure he’d see them all again one day.
The gates to the after life were opening for him, he was growing tired now, his eyelids feeling heavier than ever before. And as he lived his final breathe, it shared his final thought, “Live long, Manjirou.”

Whumptober Day 29: I Think I Need A Doctor Prompt: Reluctant Bedrest
Illinois is stuck in the clinic recovering from his concussion, but he's not the only injured ego in the clinic. Yandere is there too, and both he and Lio are anxious to leave the clinic, but for different reasons. (cont. from “Fall From Grace”)

Illinois isn’t the only one in the clinic right now, but as much as he hates being injured and stuck in bed, he understands he’s the one better off.
After all, he only has a concussion to push through, though it is a pretty bad one. One bed over, though, is Yandere, who has a couple fractured vertebrae, a broken shoulder, a gunshot wound to the stomach, and a concussion nearly as bad as Lio’s.
Lio had heard the story in pieces as Dr. Iplier treated Yandere and got him settled; the walls of the clinic rooms are thin, and Lio overhears almost everything without even trying. Apparently, Wilford accidentally shot Yandere while he was in the catwalks of the studio, causing him to fall and land right on his back. Lio may curse his bad luck, but maybe it was good that he fell on his head. At least he was still able to walk out of that cave.
But he won’t be doing any walking for a while. Dr. Iplier had taken one look at him and pretty much demanded he rest and stay in the clinic for further monitoring. “Rest” includes physical rest, but also cognitive rest.
“No reading, no screens, limited social interactions and only the lightest of activity,” Dr. Iplier had stressed, “And that’s for the next four or five days, maybe longer if I feel like you need it.”
Lio hates it, but there’s one person who doesn’t.
“Lio, doll, you almost died!” Yancy exclaims the first time Lio complains, “Youse got any idea how worried I was about you!? I call ya, you sound real fuckin’ weird, you tell me ya fell and hit your head, and then you stop talkin’ and won’t answer no matter what I say to youse!! I half-thought youse was dead, Lio!”
“I feel like I’m gonna die,” Lio mutters, “Of boredom. There’s nothing to do! I can’t even listen to an audiobook or stretch my legs out of this bed.”
“It’s so ya don’t get brain damage, doofus,” Yancy scolds him, pouting in a way that makes Lio want to kiss him, though he knows it isn’t the time. “Besides, hon, you could be worse. I just got done talkin’ to Yandere.”
Right, Yandere.
As much as Lio pities himself right about now, he can’t help but feel bad for Yandere. To be injured so grievously is one thing, but to be injured, even accidentally, by someone you love? He can’t imagine how it would feel, mainly because he can’t imagine Yancy or Magnum ever hurting him. Somehow Magnum is even more doting than Yancy when he visits.
“How are ye feeling, lad?” Magnum asks fretfully, puttering over Lio with his huge brows drawn together with worry. “Ye need a pillow, or another blanket, maybe yer hungry–”
“Mags, relax,” Lio tells him, unable to keep from chuckling, “I’m fine, all I need is to get outta here and back to adventuring again.” He sighs. “No chance of that yet, though.”
“Afraid not,” Magnum agrees, “I’ll warn ye now that if ye try leavin’ the clinic before Doc wants ye to, I’ll be puttin’ ye back to bed meself.”
“I don’t doubt it,” Lio admits. There’s not a single person in this building that Magnum couldn’t toss over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and carry wherever he pleases – except maybe the Googles, but even then, Lio bets Magnum could do it.
Yandere gets visitors, too. Yancy, of course, whenever he visits Lio. Chrome too, mostly to entertain Yandere by the sound of their conversations. Dr. Iplier probably checks on Yandere more than is strictly necessary, certainly more than he checks on Lio. Dark comes by too, and while it makes Lio uneasy to be around him, he’s not nearly as intimidating when he’s asking Yandere how he feels for the third time that day.
The only person close to Yandere who doesn’t visit him is Wilford.
Lio knows Wilford to be devil-may-care, unperturbed by blood and injury, even when it hurts those he loves. He’s heard stories from Bim about the times Wilford has gotten Bim shot or stabbed by accident, and according to Bim, Wilford never cared much about those. Half the time he didn’t even apologize, and he was never scared away from visiting Bim while he was healing. But hurting Yandere so gravely must’ve managed to give Wilford some guilt, enough to keep him away from Yandere’s bedside.
“Did you ask onii-san to visit?” Yandere asks Dark for the dozenth time.
“I did, love,” Dark replies for the dozenth time, “He always tells me he will, and then when I ask him why he hasn’t, he says he will this time, and so on.” He sighs. “I know from experience that getting Wilford to do something he doesn’t want to do is…challenging, to say the least.”
Lio can imagine.
“But why not??” Yandere whines, “I miss him, and I know he feels bad, but…I thought you said he was okay.”
“He certainly acts like it,” Dark says, “But there’s no way he isn’t still thinking about it. At this point, though, trying to talk to him about it will only make him worse.”
“I guess,” Yandere mutters. No, sniffles, Lio realizes.
“There now, love,” Dark soothes, “No need for tears. Just because Wilford isn’t visiting doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. You know as well as I do how much he loves you.”
“I know,” Yandere says, quiet and sad, “I just…I want to talk to him, and I want him to stop blaming himself.”
After a couple days of this, Lio wakes up in the middle of the night to soft weeping.
He immediately feels awkward; he shouldn’t be hearing Yandere’s private grief. He debates pressing his call button to attract Dr. Iplier, so he can notice Yandere’s tears and comfort him. But that feels too weird, too underhanded. But he also can’t just lay there and listen to Yandere cry. It’s true that he and Yandere don’t get along the best – well, more like Yandere doesn’t get along with him. He still hasn’t forgiven Lio for breaking Yancy’s heart all that time ago, even though Yancy has. He’s civil enough to Lio for Yancy’s sake, but you’d never catch him alone with Lio if he can’t help it. Still, Lio can’t help but feel bad for Yandere, not to mention how tired he is of lying here doing nothing. That’s what makes him speak up.
“Um, hey…” he says, not sure how else to begin.
Yandere keeps crying. Either he can’t hear Lio or doesn’t know he’s being spoken to.
“Hey, Yandere,” Lio tries again, louder this time, “You alright?”
A dumb question, but Lio doesn’t know what else to ask. Yandere hears him that time, and his weeping stutters as he prepares to speak.
“No, y-yarou,” Yandere mutters, “The hell are you listening f-for anyway?”
Lio doesn’t know what “yarou” means, but he doubts it’s kind.
“I wasn’t trying to listen,” Lio says, “But you woke me up. It’s pretty to hear what’s going on in your room, even if I try not to.”
“How m-much have you heard?” Yandere asks warily.
“Most of it, I think,” Lio admits.
There’s a pause.
“Great,” Yandere mutters, annoyed enough that his tears are petering off. “If that’s true, what the hell are you asking me if I’m okay for? You already know what’s going on.”
“I’m trying to be nice,” Lio says, a little annoyed himself, “I didn’t want you to cry, and now you’re not crying anymore, so you’re welcome.”
“Ugh,” Yandere says, and Lio can practically hear the way his lip curls in irritation, “Whatever.”
Another pause.
“Sorry about…everything with Wilford,” Lio finally says, “Sounds tough.”
“I guess,” Yandere says, quiet. He thinks for a moment. “What happened, it…it reminded him of something. Have you seen the “Who Killed Markiplier” series yet?”
“No,” Lio answers truthfully. He hasn’t watched much of Mark’s videos, though he’s heard that particular series mentioned by the other egos before.
“Well, you’d understand if you had,” Yandere scoffs. “I just…” He sighs. “I just wish I could talk to him myself, get out of this stupid bed and find him.”
“You’re telling me,” Lio groans, staring at the ceiling. “I’ve wanted to get out of here for four days already.”
“Didn’t you get here four days ago?”
“Exactly.”
Yandere snorts despite himself, and Lio chuckles as Yandere quiets himself.
“You know, I think Yan-kun can tell how thin these walls are,” Yandere sighs, “Maybe not consciously, but he always seemed worried about getting overheard in here. Guess I should’ve taken the hint.”
“Sounds like Yancy,” Lio laughs, “But why would he be worried about getting overheard? I’m the only one here to listen.”
“Because,” Yandere replies, “He feels like you aren’t taking what happened to you seriously enough.”
“I mean, I knew that,” Lio says.
“Do you, though?” Yandere asks. A pause. “I was there when he called you, you know. He thought you were going to die. When you stopped answering him he thought he’d heard your last words. I had to tell Yami and Wil what was going on because he was crying too hard.”
Lio’s heart twists over itself. He had known Yancy was scared and worried, Yancy had said so himself, but he hadn’t known how bad it’d been for him.
“Really?” he can’t help but ask.
“Yeah,” Yandere says, “When you got brought to the clinic, Kaizoku-kun had to drag him out so Shishi could actually look him over. And now that you’re getting better, he’s still worried about you because he’s afraid you’re gonna go out and get hurt again, and it’ll be even worse this time.”
The worst part is that Lio can imagine it. He can imagine Magnum having to scoop up a screaming, sobbing Yancy and carry him away so Dr. Iplier could do his job. He can imagine that every time he complained about being cooped up, every time he wished he could go back to adventuring, every time he wanted to get out of bed and back into the wilderness stabbed Yancy in the heart to hear it. That all those wishes to go back to normal made Yancy fear what could happen to Lio next, made him fear that Lio had learned nothing and would go out and get himself killed. Lio hates that he couldn’t see it, hates that it took someone pointing out to him how distraught he made his boyfriend feel.
“Fuck,” Lio mumbles, “I guess I better apologize for worrying him.”
“Yeah, you should,” Yandere affirms, a tiny bit of smugness in his voice. Lio barely cares.
“I’ll fix my thing in the morning,” Lio says, “I hope your thing gets fixed soon, too.”
A pause, the longest one yet.
“Um, thanks,” Yandere mumbles, “You too, I guess.”
It takes Lio a while to fall back asleep as he tries to think of what to say to Yancy. It occurs to him that Wilford might be feeling similarly; wrestling with the knowledge that he hurt someone he loves so much and fearing that an apology isn’t enough.

Yancy doesn’t visit Lio until the afternoon, but Lio still hasn’t come up with an apology that feels right. It all feels too out of nowhere or not good enough, or like he’s apologizing for getting hurt more than he is for not taking it seriously. He knows Yancy wouldn’t blame him for a freak accident, apologizing for that piece of it feels wrong. But even just apologizing doesn’t feel like enough. This wouldn’t be the first time Lio hurt Yancy, and he wonders with some bitter sadness why Yancy still puts up with the pain Lio causes him.
So when Yancy comes in to talk to Lio, he acts like everything’s normal. He doesn’t complain about being stuck this time, but he can’t find the words to apologize – until Yancy starts to leave.
“Alright, I’ll letcha go,” Yancy says, getting up from the chair he’s sitting in, “But maybe I’ll come back later if Doc lets me.”
“Wait,” Lio says, internally cursing himself, “I have something I need to tell you.”
“Youse coulda said it anytime these past ten minutes, doll,” Yancy says teasingly, “I’m gettin’ outta here before Doc yells at me for makin’ ya use your brain too much.”
“Yancy, hold on!” Lio insists, reaching out and taking Yancy’s wrist, stopping him from walking away, “It’s important, babe, I don’t want to wait anymore.”
“Look, Lio, I know youse hate being bored,” Yancy says, and Lio can see the tired sadness in Yancy’s eyes now that he’s looking for it. “But youse gotta sit tight until Doc says you’re okay.”
“That’s just it, Yance, I…” Lio sighs, deciding it’s best to just be plain about it. “I’m sorry.”
“Sorry?” Yancy asks, confused enough that he doesn’t try to pull his arm out of Lio’s hand.
“You’ve been worried about me,” Lio says, “Even after I got rescued, you’ve been worried, and…and I’m sorry I haven’t been taking that worry seriously, or taking my recovery seriously.”
As he talks, Yancy’s expression goes from confusion to shock to holding back emotion, especially when Lio pulls Yancy back to his bedside, hand moving from his arm to clasp his hand in his own.
“I shouldn’t have kept blowing you off,” Lio murmurs, “And I should’ve been more focused on getting better instead of just getting out of here.”
Yancy sits back down in the chair by Lio’s bed, looking down.
“I said I half-thought youse was dead before,” Yancy mumbles, voice thick, “But that ain’t true. I fully thought you were dead, or about to be. I was such a mess I could barely tell Dark what was happening. I worry every time you travel, and it just…” Yancy chokes a little. “It was my worst fear come true. And hearin’ youse complain about every little thing, about having to stay here and heal, just…made me wanna scream sometimes. Made me feel like youse didn’t care, about me or about yourself.”
“Jailbird,” Lio murmurs, reaching out his free hand to cup Yancy’s cheek. The action makes Yancy finally look up, and Lio isn’t surprised to see and feel tears on his cheeks, but it still breaks his heart. “I do love you, and I sure do care about getting better. I’m so sorry I made you feel that way.” He strokes Yancy’s cheek, catching tears. “I’m thinking I’ll stay home for a while once I heal. Maybe take you on one of the local hiking trails, one where the worst that could happen to me is a sprained ankle, but otherwise just chill out.”
“Is that just to make me feel better?” Yancy asks, managing a grin, “It’s workin’, for the record.”
“Kinda,” Lio admits, “But I’d also rather not go out and get myself hurt again.”
“Good answer,” Yancy chuckles, leaning forward to kiss Lio. Lio meets him partway, tastes salt on his lips.
“I love you,” Lio murmurs as they pull away.
“Youse said that already,” Yancy teases, “But I love youse too.” After a quiet moment, Yancy sighs. “Now I really gotta go, before Doc realizes I’m still here.”
“Alright, alright,” Lio laughs, letting go of Yancy’s hand. “I might get to leave tomorrow, though; he told me this morning. I’ll finally be able to talk to you longer than ten minutes at a time.”
“We’ll see,” Yancy says, though he’s still smiling. “See youse, freebird.”
“Bye, angel,” Lio replies as Yancy leaves the room.
Lio expects Yandere to say something after Yancy leaves, but surprisingly, he doesn’t. Maybe he’s sleeping, or too engrossed in whatever he’s doing to eavesdrop. Either way, Lio is glad Yandere brought the problem to his attention, even if it was just to have something to be smug about.
Lio can only hope Yandere’s problem can be solved soon.

That night, Lio is once again woken by the sound of Yandere crying. But before he can think to talk to him again, he hears another, much deeper voice soothing him.
“I thought you were waiting for me to visit,” playfully chides the accented voice of Wilford, “What are all these tears for?”
“Y-You wouldn’t visit,” Yandere whimpers, “I started th-thinking that maybe, maybe it was m-me…”
“It wasn’t you,” Wilford says, “It…it wasn’t you at all.” His voice sounds far away.
“Yami said what h-happened reminded you of…back then,” Yandere murmurs carefully, still sniffling a little. “I guess it makes s-sense.”
“I still feel bad,” Wilford admits, “You’d gotten hurt, by me no less, and all I did was stand there.” A pause. “I was too wrapped up in myself to worry about you.”
Lio is shocked. To call Wilford “self-involved” is an understatement, at least as far as Lio knew. He knew Wilford was feeling guilty, but for him to have such self-awareness is unexpected. Now Lio feels bad about eavesdropping, but it’s not like he can’t not hear what’s happening. Wilford’s voice carries even without him trying.
“It wasn’t your fault!” Yandere exclaims, “You didn’t mean to hurt me, and I’m fine now! Or I will be soon, Shishi said I only have to be here for a few more days.”
“I know,” Wilford sighs, “But then I went and made you upset while you were trying to get better. I knew I should see you, and I wanted to, I just…wasn’t sure if I could…manage.”
“I get it,” Yandere says softly, so quiet that Lio almost doesn’t hear it. “I have my own stuff. Not like you, but…we both have weird stuff in our brains.”
“That’s a way to describe it,” Wilford chuckles.
“I’m glad you came, though,” Yandere adds, “Even though it’s so late at night. Why now, anyway?”
“Figured I’d already waited too long,” Wilford says flippantly, “And besides, I knew you wouldn’t expect it! Was it a fun surprise?”
“Hai!” Yandere laughs, “But not so loud, Wil, if Shishi hears you and comes in he’ll get mad at you for visiting so late!”
“Oh, let Dr. Crabbypants get mad at me,” Wilford scoffs, “It wouldn’t be the first time.”
Ah, now he’s starting to sound like the Wilford that Lio is more familiar with.
“I’m also tired,” Yandere giggles, “And if I try to stay up all night, Shishi’ll definitely notice in the morning. And if I’m really tired, I won’t be able to cover for you!”
“Well, if you insist, I suppose I’ll let you get some sleep,” Wilford chuckles, “But I’ll be back to bother you again tomorrow.”
“Promise?” Yandere asks earnestly.
“Of course, otouto,” Wilford answers, gentle and fond.
“Good,” Yandere says, audibly relieved. “I love you, onii-san.”
“Love you too, kid,” Wilford replies, before the signature poof of him teleporting away sounds from Yandere’s room.
The last sound Lio hears from Yandere’s room is a happy sigh and the rustling of Yandere settling into bed for sleep.
Lio does the same, feeling much better at heart than he did the night before.

Summary: Kay goes with some of the guys to a haunted house, one of those Halloween attraction ones.

With Halloween so close, Egoton was in a bit of a mood and there were more than a couple attractions and haunted houses we’re going up.
The plan was for Ethan and Randall to take Eric but one thing led to another and the two were with Eric, and Illinois, and King. The latter had heard Illinois had tagged along with Eric and wanted to be there “just in case”.
The five of them were standing in front of what Ethan had found was the best rated haunted house in town.
Eric was hiding behind Illinois, looking up at it nervously, he was clutching his hand.
“What’s wrong, leoncito, you’ve faced scarier,” Illinois smiled at him.
“There’s people in there,” Eric complained into Illinois’s back.
Illinois’s smile fell and he wrapped and arm around Eric, “You don’t have to go in. We can stay outside, try to win some prizes or something.”
“You make out in the bushes and I’m getting a crow to throw food at you Ills,” King warned.
“Hey, come on, what did I do to you?” Illinois demanded.
“Really?” King stared at him. “I’ve been keeping track. You want my list, asshat?”
Illinois rolled his eyes, and quickly bent down to carry Eric over his shoulder, but Eric went about as straight as a board so the result was Eric bracing his hands on Illinois’s shoulders. Eric’s face went beet red and Illinois had this huge smile on his face.
“What’ll it be dulcito? The fake haunted house or do I get a head start on that huge stuffed unicorn at the front?”
Eric went impossibly redder, just staring at Illinois.
Illinois chuckled.
“I think his brain shut down,” Ethan teased.
“Yeah?” Illinois carefully put Eric back on his feet, “fine, I’ll put the pretty boy down.”
He bent his knees a little and inclined his head so that their eyes were level. “Let those thoughts in that pretty head come back up.” Then he winked.
“Oi, we’re still here,” King shouted at him. “How about you do that away from me.”
“Illy!” Eric squeaked out, covering his face.
“Okay, okay,” Illinois stood up straight again. “I’ll stop. So what’ll it be sweetheart. Haunted house or cute games?”
“Y-Y-ou wa-nna go,” Eric looked away, still flustered but clearly uncomfortable.
“Any fun I could have isn’t worth it if you’re not okay,” Illinois reminded. “So are we going to counter-scam a carnie or go into the haunted house?”
Eric was quiet for a long time, looking uneasy and playing with his hands a bit. Illinois just waited trying to look as calm and patient as possible.
It took a bit but Eric worried his lower lips with his teeth, looking away. “We . . . uh, um . . . can go into the h-ouse.”
“You sure?” Illinois asked. “We don’t have to.”
“I-I w-want to,” Eric looked more determined.
Illinois kissed Eric’s cheek, “If you ever want to leave, just give me a sign and I’ll take you back out, even if we’re about to finish.”
“I wi-ll,” Eric promised.
“Okay,” Illinois kissed Eric’s forehead and passed him a couple twenties. “Go with the boys get us three tickets.”
“I can pay for myself,” King told him.
“아빠 would never let me hear the end of it,” Illinois told King.
Eric nodded and walked off with Ethan and Randall to a ticket stall outside the haunted house. Leaving Illinois and King standing away from them.
“So, you tell the Old Man yet?” King asked as the two of them just watched the former apprentices getting tickets.
“He knows I’ve got a new travel partner,” Illinois admitted. “The invoices show there are two people on his bills so I could just lie about that.”
“Why not tell him?” King said. “You’re obviously over the moon about him.”
“Don’t want my luck to run out,” Illinois defended, looking at Eric. “The long I wait, the longer my luck holds out.”
King frowned, “Haven’t you found some amulet that counteracts it by now?”
Illinois sighed, “There is no counter-curse, no spell, no lucky charm that is enough when my luck finally runs out. I can only hope that when it runs out again that Eric isn’t with me.”
“Do you think it ran out when I was sent to watch Artie?” King voiced a question he had for a while now.
“Dark and Host don’t blame me, but I do,” Illinois answered.
King was quiet for a second or two before tugging on his arm, “It wasn’t, your fault. There was nothing you could have done.”
Then before Illinois could argue further, King shoved him a bit, “Come on, let’s catch up with the guys, before they get themselves into trouble.”
Illinois smiled and they walked over to the others.
“Keep taking care of Eric and we won’t have any problems,” King told Illinois, “he’s a nice kid.”
“Huh, what was that?” Ethan said, looking over them.
“I said Illy’s a piece of shit,” King corrected. “Long may he reign, the prince of assholes.”
Illinois chuckled, rolling his eyes. The adventurer wrapped an arm around Eric’s back and leaned in. “Had fun at the ticket booth, dulcito?”
Eric just shrugged, staring at Illinois.
They headed into the haunted house, the result was that Eric stayed clutched to Illinois’s side for most of the time, almost stumbling as he was startled. Illinois asking if he wanted to leave a couple of times, but Eric just clung to him and insisted on continuing. Illinois did wind up picking him and carrying him halfway through, promising to protect him.
Ethan and Randall were having fun, giggling and chuckling the whole way through. King was the only one who didn’t have a noticeable reaction for most of it. He occasionally jumped and there was a room that Illinois and King stared into the room in surprise and with a bit of trepidation. It was a room with a mad doctor and slabs of meat and realistic fake skeletons. They glanced between each other and just sprinted into the next room.
But the group walked out the other side and Illinois raced for a bench to put Eric down, trying to calm him down. Thankfully he wasn’t in a panic attack. The two were talking between each other quietly and there was a gentle promise that Eric would not go to another haunted house.
They went to go get some corn dogs after Eric felt like walking again.
“Sorry you didn’t have fun,” Ethan apologized to King.
“What?” King asked in confusion, munching on the contents of a bag of popcorn.
“At the haunted house,” Ethan clarified.
“Oh,” King realized. “Nah, I had fun, it was alright.”
“Yeah, but yah didn’t get scared,” Randall reminded.
King shrugged, “There’s nothing really scary about a fake haunted house. Yeah I got startled a couple of times, and that effect with the fake organs did make me do a double take but it’s all cobwebs and cardboard.”
“We technically lived in a haunted house anyways,” Illinois told them, tipping his hat up.
“Wait you lived in the Manor, man?” Randall asked.
“Yep,” Illinois popped the “p” on the end. “It got freaky at night. Never had to have a curfew.”
“How bad was it?” Ethan asked leaning forward.
King glared at Illinois, “Usually nothing happened except for the changing hallways, it took forever for me to find the bathroom at night when I first got there. It’s really easy to find the back porch, impossible to find anything else.”
Illinois tapped King’s arm with the back of his hand, “What about that time in the attic?”
“Which time in the attic?” King asked.
“You know when you and Yan came crying down the stairs?” Illinois told him.
“Ohhhh,” King remembered, and smiled. “Huddle up.”
Randall dropped his elbows on the table, Ethan had a huge smile on his face.
“Okay, how old were we, Ills,” King started.
“It must have been about a year and some change since we were adopted,” Illinois waived his hand. Eric was halfway onto his lap, trying to cuddle up next to Illinois.
“So I was about six, Yan was about five, and it was hot as balls in the middle of the summer. It was that one year with the heat wave and it was so hot that even the Manor was overheating. So Yan and I were up in attic, because we can’t go in the basement.”
“Why?” Eric managed to ask.
King sighed, “Because Dark kills people down there, it’s like Wil’s set couch, we just don’t go there unless you’re helping kill people, so I never went in the basement. Anyways we’re we’re fucking around in the attic and Yan was in Bim’s old crib and I was checking out this broken cursed looking mirror when I look over and I see Dark standing in a corner of the attic watching us. He’s in this nice red tux and he’s smiling at me. Except his smile is kinda freaking me out.”
King’s smile faded. “So I call out, ‘Mr. Dark?’ ‘Cause I used to be formal with him. And down the stairs I hear footsteps and Dark calls out, ‘What is it Kay?’ I look back at ‘Dark’ and he’s gone. The real Dark is walking up the stairs. After I asked him about it, we’re taken out of the attic and he locked us out of the attic for a month. He spent the rest of the day watching us like a hawk and the next time I went up with Illy, the attic is clear of ghosts”
“So what was it?” Randall asked.
King shrugged.
“Yanc called him ‘the Shadow Man’ cause he has all this black smoke around him,” Illinois answered. “Dark always got super protective when he was around so we always assumed he was one of those bad spirits.”
“Like Dark?” Ethan asked.
Illinois made a scoffing sound, “Dark’s a demon, big difference. Spirits can’t affect their environments, demons are way more dangerous. Either way whenever the Shadow Man was in a part of the house Dark would throw a barrier up and we couldn’t go in that part of the house until Dark deemed it safe. Once we were barred from going outside without him watching over us for a month. Artie and Bim went insane, it was fun to watch.”
“For you,” King grumbled.
“So is that thing still around the Manor?” Ethan asked.
“Don’t know why he wouldn’t be,” King answered. “Maybe Dark pissed him off and he’s haunting Dark. I don’t know, I’ve tried looking into him and so far I’ve found nothing. But that doesn’t mean I’ve given up.”
“So has he done anything to you guys, stood over your bed as you slept, or fucked with the lights?” Ethan asked.
“Not to us,” King reported. “I haven’t seen or heard anything to suggest it’s a demon or a poltergeist. Glad I moved out, that mess is your problem.” He nudged Illinois.
“No,” Illinois smiled. “I don’t get the cursed mansion, I get the cursed lake house. Big difference. The Shadow Man doesn’t live there. Bim gets to deal with the cursed mansion, I don’t want anything to do with that cursed house besides my stuff. Bim can have the house.”
“B-im in-herits the M-Manor?” Eric asked. “But Da-rk can’t die?”
Illinois shrugged, “Didn’t stop him from making a will, I think he does it to make himself feel better, or maybe the Old Man’s gonna skip town for a hundred years to add some pizazz to his life, I don’t know.”
“Weird,” Ethan commented.
“That will isn’t getting used anytime soon,” Illinois excused. He stood up and held out an elbow for Eric. “Now if you’ll excuse us, boys, we have some carnival games to win.”
Eric blush returned as he grabbed onto Illinois’s arm. Illinois helped him up and they walked away.
The other three watched them walk away. Ethan getting up, “Well I’m gonna have fun on some of those rides.”
“Wanna go stalk an’ torment the lovebirds?” Randall smiled at King.
“Why do you think I’m here?” King smiled, they split ways to enjoy the rest of the festivities.

Allen Ren was soooo good in this entire scene, from not speaking a single word while staring at the rattle drum Li Chu bought for his son yet to be born, but conveying volumes through the emotion in his eyes, to the tear falling from his eyes after he passed the rattle drum to the advisor to pass to his manor in case something should happen to him, to the resolve and determination in his eyes as he turned to walk out of the tent to prepare for war. SO MUCH FEELSSSS ;_;

Omg, this scene, where Zhenzhu has a hallucination of Li Chu after giving birth to Li Kuo. The comments on bilibili reminded me that in the hallucination, Li Chu’s outfit was that of the first time they met at the poetry event/searching for Wan Shi Tong. ohmygosh I couldn’t ;_______; somehow inexplicably that just adds a whole new level of emo to it!!!!!!!!! “人生若只如初见” ahhhhh ;___;

This scene, where An Lu Shan’s hearty (?) laughter reverberates and is layered over interspersed scenes of his troops looting and murdering in Chang An was so so creepy and anger-inducing.

Throughout the whole Anshi Rebellion arc, seeing Yang Guozhong mislead the emperor and cause Tang forces to lose ground really made my blood pressure rise omg hahahaha. But surprisingly I teared up at the death of Yang Guifei, sigh, ultimately it was Xuanzong who chose to indulge himself in music and dance and in her all day long, yet in the end it’s she alone who has to pay the price. And when she asked Gao Lishi if Xuanzong wasn’t going to come and send her off.... 哎......
(it’s really interesting (though your blood boils too) watching how the Tang royalty cling on to the remnants of opulence and decadence they were used to, even as they are reduced to fleeing for their lives. Like having one whole carriage for a cat, like Xuanzong getting angry over how the temporary residential quarters weren’t well-prepped enough, like Xuanzong reminiscing to Li Chu about the times when 70 vassal states all came to pay tribute to Tang. Yet at the same time, this power counts for nothing in a chaotic world, as seen when Xuanzong had to accede to the generals’ and military’s demands (though thankfully he did, in the context of war) for them to continue protecting him.)
And for Yang Guozhong’s death, well... At least he was kind enough to illuminate Li Chu on He 01′s shady background, though Li Chu didn’t really believe him. And I almost got swayed by his words haha, about how Li Chu can’t hold anything against him because all this plotting and backstabbing is just a 你来我往/mutual exchange. But well that may be the case, but his intentions (to gain power and to gain wealth) and the consequences of his actions (causing Tang to lose foothold certain areas, causing the masses of citizens to suffer) are what differentiates him from Li Chu.
(Speaking of Yang Guozhong’s death, this cut of this scene on bilibili is a MUST-WATCH hahahaha, skip to 04:10 onwards to watch Li Chu strangling Yang Guozhong to the BGM of JJ Lin’s 我们背对背拥抱~~~~~ I laughed out loud HAHA the lyrics are inexplicably suitable)

Nuo’er (whom I used to ff through her scenes, but now I quite like her) trained up a female army of servant girls! Even though they kind of caused trouble in the end.... But ahhhh so cute and cool! And the banter between the three siblings was so so sooooo cute, but every time I think about how it’s not going to last I just ;______; *sobs*

I fell in love completely with Zhenzhu these few eps hehe, because of her bravery + wits + priorities + general awesomeness and kickass-ness despite not knowing a single bit of martial arts :) I like how even though physically she’s weak and needs to be saved by people it doesn’t at all diminish her image as a strong lady in the drama, because her strength that captivates the people around her stems from her conviction and her mind. I loved this line from her when talking to Dugu Jingyao - “Even though I am a female, I too have my own things I hold fast to and moral integrity.”

I heard about what went down in the original novel after Li Chu was drugged with the aphrodisiac... All I can say is, the scriptwriter is really good to Li Chu and is really committed to building up his image in the drama hahaha (so far at least), for which I’m glad. Proud of you Li Chu for staying strong!!!

The youtube comments supporting An Qingxu, saying that they don’t understand why Zhenzhu doesn’t accept him/if they were her they would have long married him/comparing him to Li Chu and saying that Li Chu would give up Zhenzhu for the kingdom while for An nothing is more important than Zhenzhu.... make me want to vomit endless blood... Even when you don’t consider his manic killing tendencies, his love for Zhenzhu is more like an endless torment, and it feels more like a deranged desire to possess her heart more than anything (though of course we have to thank him for saving Zhenzhu’s lives a couple of times). So what if his ultimate priority is Zhenzhu and he’s willing to give up everything for her? That’s never been what Zhenzhu wants, as can be seen from the multiple times she told Li Chu to put the country over her, and from the sacrifices she makes.
I guess it’s just kind of frustrating because why are drama watchers always more lenient to the second male lead compared to females?? Cross-refer to Cui Caiping, where even though towards the end there were some comments pitying her, ultimately most of the comments I saw kept on cursing her etc, when to me her level of terribleness/mania/the lows she would stoop to for her beloved is wayyyyyy below that of An Qingxu. Sigh ):

Lastly, shall end off with some random outfits of Li Chu that I found really good-looking hehe. 1st being his blue outfit when out on the streets and buying the rattle drum for Kuo’er (ALSO: appreciation for how he is always wearing the scent pouch Zhenzhu made for him whenever he is in casual wear!!)

2nd: I just really like this visage of him standing by the ledge on the 2nd floor of a teahouse, holding a tea-cup in his hand. It’s really attractive HAHA it has such a wuxia vibe~

3rd: perhaps my 审美 has gone completely wacky because I thought he -disguised as a musician in the Yan empire with that fake mustache- was really really handsome here...... (till I read a comment calling that hat on his head a rubbish bin... HAHA)
