Iron Crow and Laser Weapons
I'm just straight up going to be out here making up the schematics and blueprints of the Iron Crow planes for this chapter, so I can extrapolate later, huh?
I know nothing about planes, but here I am reading manuals and blueprints since these planes will probably feature heavily throughout The Rod That Blocks the Lightning. After all, a good portion of the plot of S2 was Geumseagi trying to find out what they were, and how they could be used against Flower Hill.
Especially since laser based weapons are apparently in development already? Like the HELIOS 60-plus-K-Class laser used by the USS Preble, used to blind optics and supposedly can destroy small targets.
I think it is a similar version of the AN/SEQ-3 Laser Weapon System or XN-1 LaWS already in use by the US Navy to take down small targets.
(USS Ponce). Tumblr won't let me upload the video I have of it in action.
So, obviously, I now have to research these far more in depth, in order to figure out how the Iron Crows can take out entire tank units like they do.
Actually, the beam is comparable to what we have now, it just seems to have a wider effect. I could see the Wolf Unit coming up with something like this, since they are supposed to be based on the US from what I understand, and these types of lasers have been researched since the 1930s. So why does Dr. Huinjogjebi have this type of technology in S1, if not for espionage and such? There must be a reason why the Wolf Unit hates the Weasel Unit.
The shape of the lasers is comparable to real life. I can see how the weight is distributed for the most part, so the shape of the plane should be sound.
Although, they mostly seem to need something much more larger, like one of those large Navy Boats, to provide a stable base and energy support. The ships they are attached to don't seem to be using nuclear energy or anything like that. In fact, it appears to be good for ground attacks and boats anyway, since it can burn through aircraft wiring surprisingly easily.
Anyway, things to get you on an FBI watch-list part 8.
#gives me the Seto Kaiba Blue Eyes White Dragon Jet vibes#I suppose maybe the shape is so they actually look like birds from afar#since it seems the wolves are the ones with radar technology to tell the difference#squirrel and hedgehog#this is a real thing!#that sure is interesting#sah#SaH#but what is up with the tanks?#how did they get that footage who was attacked?#now to hunt for more schematics and blueprints#The Rod That Blocks the Lightning#lasers#us navy#USS Ponce#USS Preble#Dr. Huinjogjebi#AN/SEQ-3 Laser Weapon System#HELIOS 60-plus-K-Class#any navy or weapons people out there want to discuss this?#navy#iron crow#LaWs

More than 30 wildlife conservation groups today urged the U.S. Forest Service to prohibit Idaho from paying private contractors to shoot wolves from aircraft in national forests in central and southeastern Idaho. The Idaho Wolf Depredation Control Board recently approved the controversial predator control measure.
Specifically, today’s letter asked the Forest Service to grant a 2023 petition from the Center for Biological Diversity. The petition explained that gunning down wolves from helicopters risks harm to other wildlife like grizzly bears and Canada lynx, as well as public safety and wilderness values.
If the Forest Service fails to promptly grant the petition, the groups may consider legal action in federal court.
“Recreationists should not have to worry about their safety while enjoying our public lands,” said Christine Gertschen, co-director of the Conservation Connection Foundation.
“Aerial gunning is dangerous for all concerned, especially for our native wildlife.”
The Idaho Wolf Depredation Control Board is funded primarily by tax dollars. The proposals approved for funding could allow aerial gunning across much of Idaho, including lands in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, Boise National Forest, Salmon-Challis National Forest, Sawtooth National Forest and Payette National Forest.
“Aerial gunning prioritizes wolf killings over the health and safety of our shared forests,” said Sasha Truax, presidents of Teens Restoring Earth’s Environment. “It is a twisted abuse of public funding and its continuance exposes the brutality of wolf management on public lands. It must be stopped.”

Kinda do hate the puppy-fication of werewolves ngl
#like wolves are real animals they are turning into wolves not dogs#and as much as i support reminding people that wolves arent evil monsters that we should eradicate#uhhhh man theyre not fuckin dogs either#they ARE still dangerous actually#also werewolves are a sublimation of multiple fears that puppyfication strips them of#one: wolves as terrifying animals that can ruin your life as a rural farmer#two: someone in your midst is a danger and you dont know who#and i GET that in the US the first led to disastrous consequences that we've overcorrected for in how some of us speak of wolves#(particularly folks from the city who have never seen one in person)#and i GET that the second fear is relatable to queer folks who have potentially felt kinship with the hunted werewolf#but idk i have too much fondness for them as a horror monster#i find more to relate to in the monster of horror stories than the uwu puppy werewolf who chews furniture

Mundane sort of ‘magical creature AU’ thought but- a sad notion.
Y’know how urban wildlife is typically viewed? Like… seagulls. “Trash birds”, heavily loathed, often chased away despite the fact that they are only trying to adapt to a human, urban world. Or coyotes, widely hated and hunted when they encroach upon human settlements for the risks they pose- despite the fact that they were there first.
Idk. That happening with mythical creatures- again, it falls back into that idea of something that was once respected or revered (moreso in the case of magical creatures than true wildlife, but still) now being reviled and ‘common’ for the crime of being simply inconvenient.
#disclaimer: this is not to downplay the damage that something like a coyote can do don’t get me wrong but their public perception is so sad#- to me. it just is. like… this is the niche the US has created by eradicating wolves it’s not their fault.#angsty shit#<- as that is the ultimate thought behind this.#sirens being treated like alligators or sharks and being hunted/removed from water systems that they naturally belong in.#gorgon roundups instead of rattlesnake roundups. tiny fairies being viewed as house/garden pests like mice and rats or caterpillars.#you know that spiky shit that businesses put on their buildings/even actual fucking trees sometimes to keep birds from landing on them? shit#- like that.

You know what is criminally underused in fantasy?
Dinosaurs/prehistoric creatures.
The most I've ever seen are like, Dire Wolves (yes, this is a real, prehistoric animal), probably b/c 'big wolf cool'. But you know what else is cool?
Saber-toothed cats, giant bears, Woolly Mammoth/Mastodon, DINOSAURS.
If you can have giant fire-breathing dragons, and magic and various sentient humanoid species, you can totally just go 'you know what, I want some dinosaurs here too'.
Plus it could make for fun worldbuilding.
#large docile ones used as beasts of burden/mounts#tiny ones that run around cities ala rats or wild animals#tame small ones for use in hunting like we do small dogs#screw realism this is fantasy#if you can excuse dire wolves then you can excuse large sabre toothed cats or dinosaurs#hell they could just be like#weird cousins to dragons

Fox is about to get her butt handed to her ^^
She managed to convince Kaidan to play, saying it would be good for her to begin learning strategy and command (the real reason is just because she likes games). But he is absolutely going to show her no mercy.
Eventually Lucien teams up with Fox to try and help her, but to no avail.
Kaidan doesn’t stop smiling to himself for the rest of the week. Fox and Lucien begin to spend a lot of time in the library researching military strategy to prepare for next game night <3

omg omg i wish i was more comfortable with reading gore stuff because whenever you post i know im missing out on great fics 😭
BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I CAN'T FAUN OVER IT
NO its ok!! im glad you arent pushing yourself for some silly deer demon man and sillier writings! unfortunately the nature of coming up with ideas on my own also entails the problem of writing whatever batshit insane things i got in my head that day 😭
(also ty still! knowing you enjoy any of my work at all is enough of a compliment!!)
#/kbask#i have less insane fics idea in the work but theyre pretty much interaction based#most of them are just “will alastor leave you alone to do what you want without annoying you until you give in”#(answer is no)#inside me there are two wolves#one wants me to write about cute stuff but i cant write it and the other screams for flesh and blood#can you tell i was a techno fan#but gen vry vry happy youre keeping yourself safe#lord knows what ive put myelf thru in the first days of twst where everyone hated rook hunt#im sort of just praying someone will throw a normal idea at me but im also so used to only writing about insane things

Sometimes I'm surprised that monster hunter isn't more popular among the creature design and spec evo corners of tumblr, at least the portions that also play video games, and then I remember that it's just about as hard as soulsborne games (I'd argue some specific entries are even harder) but doesn't have any of the atmospheric or story elements to attract people. It gets by on sheer gameplay alone and isn't a pvp game either. There is no way to make the game easier besides picking one of the less mechanically complex weapons and git gud. If it wasn't for the neat dinosaurs I couldn't think of a game less alluring to the average tumblr user
#a lot of other games it's a combination of escaping into another world with stuff like immersion and story#monster hunter as an ip adamantly refuses to elaborate about the world it takes place in#there is no overarching story and there's basically no lore with few exceptions e.g. fatalis but even that's really barebones#mh is just like. you're a hunter. now go kick the shit out of dinosaurs with your giant guts sword#there have been a lot of memes over the years about how it also doesn't have a tutorial it just expects you to figure it out#it has extensive ''explain how this works'' popups but they only exist for certain mechanics#and somehow half the time manage to communicate nothing of use#but actually important stuff like ''how do i use this weapon'' are not explained ANYWHERE within the game itself#and it has some of the most complicated mechanics i've ever seen in a real-time combat game i.e. charge blade and hunting horn pre rise#it just does the equivalent of giving you a gun you need a master's degree to operate at full potential and throws you to the wolves#and if you try to naively look up how some of the weapons work you get multi-page hard-to-parse essays#i STILL don't know how hunting horn works pre-rise because every time i try to read a guide my eyes glaze over#like there are perhaps few other franchises more unfriendly to an ''easy mode my beloved''-type person#not to rag on those people. there's nothing wrong with that but some games are just NOT going to work with you in that way#i pretty much only like it because i'm unfortunately a Tryhard Gamer#and the feeling of being a small human killing a dragon god by sheer skill and willpower is like crack cocaine to me#i would be more frustrated by mh's lack of any lore to speak of if it weren't for the gameplay injecting dopamine straight into my brain

As a society we need to be more sympathetic to the plight of the werewolf fan who knows enough about basic wolves for every piece of werewolf media to be ruined for them.
#I KNOW it's a fantasy creature I KNOW it doesn't matter#But wolves don't have sharp claws and they do not use them to hunt or fight with#And they don't have backwards knees stop fucking snapping legs backwards every transformation scene

#category five american moment#saw a post that was like 'it is absolutely SHOCKING that england has no predators. the british are barbaric for having hunted them out'#like. okay????#a tiny island with a big population and a whole lot more history than america has no wolves. big deal#like what are we supposed to do about it? die?#plus britain's been around a lot longer than the US and is a lot smaller. there's only so many places we can live man#would u have preferred it if we let the big bad wolves kill us all and run rampant across the entire country?#an american really assigning a moral value to another country's history is INSANELY funny to me#like babygirl. look at your own country first
