if you’re willing to label any of them as evil/irredeemable you missed the point of the entire book
what does this have to do with the tea

LITERALLY BEATS CHILDREN????????#ok and?#there’s so many people who claim to like shen jiu but can’t even fathom the possibility that he’s still just a guy#he’s petty and insecure and spiteful#and takes it out on lbh in a way that is harsh but not quite past the point of what is socially acceptable#certainly not acceptable by modern standards but *gestures at the entire book* obviously that’s not the setting#quite frankly i think lbh’s trauma from that time was far more centered around emotional rejection and isolation than being beaten#the point is: sj is not uniquely bad. he is not evil. he is not irredeemable.#he is not a Villain. he is a traumatized man who was never offered compassion/understanding/support or a chance to become better.#the whole POINT is that bingge became EXACTLY like sj. even worse in fact!#traumatized and scared and the only way they knew how to cope was to exert power over others.#the ONLY reason binghe turned out marginally better is because sy—an outsider with near omniscient understanding of lbh—reached out.#if we understand that binghe is not evil/irredeemable/whatever#then neither is shen jiu#but again: this post was about the fact that people just MAKE UP extra ‘crimes’ to pin on sj because they WANT him to be evil/irredeemable#even when the things they make up are stupid at best#if not complete and total nonsense#(like the idea that lbh boiled TEA. and then tried to serve BOILING TEA. which causes SEVERE BURNS. to his new shizun.)#(like if lbh HAD done that im pretty sure that would constitute attempted murder? in which case sj would be justified in dumping it on him)#i get really tired in general of takes like ‘all abusers are irredeemable!! they’re evil!!!’#like yes we all agree abuse is bad. but to stick a permanent label like ‘evil’ or ‘irredeemable’ is just saying#‘you are bad. and you will never be anything else but bad.’#not only does that absolve any responsibility of becoming better it also means if they DO want to be better…who will help a lost cause?#(this is part of the problem w sj—he was Assigned Bad At Birth. he believed it. and nobody even once tried to challenge that notion.)#‘don’t go around saying stuff that’s blatantly untrue’ babe what do you think this post was about. if not people saying stuff#that is blatantly untrue. for the sole purpose of making shen jiu out to be a monster.
