Uh, so I'mma request something because I really like your writing and want more of your wonderful Aragorn fics in my life. So, I was thinking some headcannons about what it would be like to date/be in a relationship with Aragorn before, during and/or after the fellowship? Thanks man, and take as long as you need!💕
A/N: I am STRUGGLING with sleepover requests, my own series (PS and DAKT) and some new stuff so I turned to my stack of ‘normal’ requests to try and write something different. Et voilà!
@katethewriter I took a lot longer than I should have with these and I’m so sorry! I’m leaning more towards the Hobbit era lately (I’m really turning into a Dwarf simp here), and I’m neglecting the fellowship members. Unforgivable!
I interpreted this as how your relationship would develop while on the quest to destroy the ring and you’re not actually together at the start of it. Also maybe slightly OOC Aragorn.
A/N 2: It has some nsfw hints (not much), I couldn’t help myself and it’s very unlike Aragorn I think but I’m not sorry. Also this turned out really long, I am sorry for that.
A/N 3: Just like my other headcanons, this doesn’t make much sense so best to simply ignore this. I really don’t know what this is... :)
Being In a Relationship With Aragorn On The Quest Would Go Like This:
Tumblr media
Aragorn had met you in some seedy pub
Not his first choice to take shelter from the weather but after days and days of endless rain and trudging through mud it was almost nice to be there
at least he was able to dry his clothes and have a warm meal
he was surprised to see someone like you there
surprised but concerned too
for your wellbeing that is
every single person in that bar had his eyes on you the minute you moved
Aragorn had too but for entirely different reasons
at least that’s what he told himself
so the minute one of those drunk lads laid a hand on you he was on his feet
knight in shining armor ranger clothes
before he got to you, you had floored and knocked out your assailant, threatening the others they would suffer the same fate if they tried something similar
Aragorn stood frozen in place, completely mesmerized by you
and maybe a tad bit aroused too
the life of a ranger is very lonely after all
you winked at him and left the bar shortly after
Aragorn couldn’t get you out of his head
but what were the odds he would ever run into you again
he even returned to that godawful place a few times
a guy can hope right
you can imagine his surprise when he saw you in Rivendell
attending the secret council
he was jaw on the floor surprised
he couldn’t tear his eyes away from you
on the outside he was the cool ranger of the north, bringer of Hobbits, inventor of the Sexy But Still Rough Around The Edges Stare™
while on the inside he was  f r e a k i n g  o u t
because there you were, finally within reach
but then Frodo had to sacrifice himself
and Aragorn could not not go with him
he absolutely lost it when you volunteered as well
there was no way you were going to put your life on the line like that
you scoffed at his remark
wait did he said that out loud?
“I can handle myself just fine.”
Oh he knew that
Flashes of the bar fight filled his mind
it filled something else too 😏
so Aragorn had set himself a second goal
besides getting Frodo and the ring to Mordor he now vowed to keep you safe as well
and to make you his by the time you would arrive at Mordor
but we all know how smooth that will go do we
the first few days and weeks it went reasonably well
you have to read that as ‘he didn’t embarass himself in front of you’
because there was no progress at all on any other front
you seemed to prefer the company of the Hobbits over him or any other member of the fellowship
he tried to make conversation with you every time you walked near him
A+ for effort
when the Crebain flew over his instinct was to make sure Frodo (and Sam because those two were attached at the hip) was out of sight
after that he searched for you, but Legolas had already pulled you under the bushes with him
surely the feeling in his stomach was the fault of the Lembas bread
because Aragorn doesn’t get jealous
but then the same thing happened in Moria
you weren’t a fan of the dark and claustrophobic mines so he let you walk up front with Gandalf and Frodo near the light of Gandalf’s staff
with him right behind you of course
when the Orcs and Troll attacked, he tried to stay near you
keep an extra eye out for you, driving the Orcs away who were trying to get to you
it was you together with Legolas who defeated the troll, high fiving each other over a job well done
okay fine maybe Aragorn did get jealous this time
like he had done his best to protect you but did you notice?
then when Gandalf fell you surprisingly turned to him for comfort
leaving Legolas, Gimli and Boromir to comfort the Hobbits
take that Leaf Boi
even though it felt really good to hold you, he knew you couldn’t stay there
so he ordered everyone to get going, taking the lead
and then Lothlorien happened
a forest that was both magical and romantic
perfect setting for a love confession right
when he finally got you alone he chickened out at the last moment
because OF cOUrsE
luckily for him you did not
you almost knocked him over in your attempt to kiss him
he eagerly reciprocated the kiss though
no complaints there
but he also explained that even though he wanted this, the quest and Frodo had to come first
which you respected and understood, but you were also willing to test his resolve 👀
you didn’t tell the others
but they didn’t need an explanation, it’s not like you two were subtle
he held your hand whenever he could
Gimli couldn’t help but commenting on it, Aragorn explaining it was to prevent you from falling or tripping
“Lad, you’re sitting down in a boat...”
cue roaring laughter and flushed cheeks on Aragorn
although the fellowship supported your relationship they couldn’t help but tease Aragorn relentlessly
lots of sneaky forehead kisses
during the rest of the quest Aragorn did his best to keep you out of harm’s way
to your own frustration of course, you weren’t helpless or as fragile as he made you seem
you fought alongside Boromir when Uglúk shot him
they took Merry and Pippin and dragged you away from Boromir’s body
the one time Aragorn wasn’t at your side and you got kidnapped
you weren’t going to hear the end of this
needless to say Aragorn was indeed beside himself with worry
he couldn’t get a break
first Frodo gone, then Boromir shot and now it seemed he failed his promise to himself
enter brooding Aragorn
but he knew you were brave and could take care of yourself - you had repeated that countless times - so he was sure he was going to find you
AND HE DID
after three days of running with a dartling Elf and a wheezing Dwarf they bumped into Éomer and his horse gang
before he could ask Éomer if he saw you or the Hobbits, one of his riders jumped off their horse and made a beeline for him
Legolas notched an arrow and Gimli raised his axe but you simply shoved them aside and threw your arms around Aragorn
relieved kisses
the hug lasted several minutes until Legolas cleared his throat
oh right... audience
you shared a horse with Aragorn on the way to Edoras
while with King Théoden Aragorn kept an arm around your waist or a hand on the small of your back the entire time
as if he had to make sure you were still there
Éowyn who?
The Battle of Helm’s Deep was torture for Aragorn
he wanted to stay with you but you both knew you would be too distracted by each other
it took him a while to find you after the battle was won
few years of his life were lost in panic
but of course you were alright, already helping with the wounded
now it was his turn to sweep you off your feet
quite literally too
as the quest progressed, it became clear to Aragorn that he had to take up his rightful place as the King of Gondor when the time came
so during the victory feast after Helm’s Deep he took you outside for a walk
cue comments and whistling from Gimli
but Aragorn only wanted to talk to you
to make sure you knew what you were getting yourself into if you stayed with him
were you ready to be the spouse of a King?
of course he made it seem as if he was going to ditch you
because that man is angst embodied
everything to keep you safe right?
luckily as soon as it was clear that no, he wasn’t going to ditch you and yes, this was kind of a hastily thrown together proposal in a way, you kissed him saying that as long as you were at his side you were ready for anything
as long as you were together

A List of My Absolute Favorite Fictional Men
Seriously. I want to marry each and every one of them (not that I’m advocating polygamy, of course). Now, in no particular order...
(Warning: Spoilers)
Tumblr media
1. Inspector Rycroft Philostrate (Carnival Row)
This man. THIS MAN. I love him with my whole heart. He’s a bit rough around the edges, but he’s incredibly kind, compassionate, empathetic, and just, not to mention selfless to the point of stupidity. I have a thing for self-sacrificing heroes; you will notice a pattern. Philo takes responsibility for his own actions, from the huge, life-changing ones down to the little, trivial ones, and that is HOT. He’s a tortured, haunted soul, and yet all he seeks to do is save others from pain, despite his own hardship.
Favorite Moment: In episode two when he hears that Vignette’s employers want her arrested for breach of contract and he goes to the Spurnroses to buy her contract, thus freeing her. He never tells her what he did, never expecting any reward. He does it simply because he loves her—and because it’s right.
Tumblr media
2. Commodore James Norrington (Pirates of the Caribbean)
James is literally a Jane Austen hero in a Disney movie. Enough said. He is one of the most underrated characters in the entire series. He’s a man of duty, of honor, of justice, but that never stops him from being a good (and very sassy!) human being. He loves Elizabeth Swann with all his heart and goes well out of his way, even risking his life, for her. When she chooses another man, he accepts it with grace and wishes them well, but he never stops protecting her even while expecting nothing in return. This man respects women and their decisions. Need I say more?
Favorite Moment: The deleted scene from TCotBP where he takes Elizabeth aside and tells her that she doesn’t have to marry him just to save Will, and that if she marries him, he wants it to be because she truly wants to. It establishes that he doesn’t want to force her into anything and that her opinions and feelings matter a great deal to him. The fact that this was deleted is a crime.
Tumblr media
3. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars)
Ah, my middle school obsession. Those were the days. Sense of duty? Check. Honorable? Check. Responsible? Check. Compassionate? Check. Selfless? Check. Sassy? Check. Cinnamon roll with a tortured soul? Check. Beginning to notice what traits I value yet? Obi-Wan is such a genuinely good man who endures so much undeserved pain but never lets it steal his kindness. It triggers my Mama Bear instincts. Precious baby. Get him some tea and some therapy. He also never wavers from what is noble and good, even when faced with great pain and temptation. He’s quite possibly the greatest Jedi of all time.
Favorite Moment: Literally any time he’s being snarky. It’s glorious.
Tumblr media
4. Aragorn (Lord of the Rings)
In truth, I could list almost every single male character in LOTR, but I shall refrain. If you don’t think Aragorn is perfect, you have questionable taste. Honestly. He’s kind, compassionate, humble, courageous, determined, responsible, loyal, and completely willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good. He’s the ideal leaders should seek to uphold. He always does what’s right, always resisting temptation, always doing what he believes to be best for others.
Favorite Moment: In the ROTK book when his true identity as Heir of Isildur is revealed to the people of Minas Tirith in the Houses of Healing because “the hands of the king are the hands of a healer.” That’s right—he’s an amazing warrior and brilliant military commander, but what’s most important, most definitive, is not warfare, but healing. That is absolutely beautiful.
Tumblr media
5. Will Turner (Pirates of the Caribbean)
How can you NOT love this beautiful cinnamon roll? Look at him! Look at those puppy eyes! Will’s character development is both brilliant and heartbreaking—he goes from a shy, eager young man who can’t keep his heart out of his big brown eyes to a reserved and haunted man who’s lost almost everything he’s ever loved. Love—that’s Will’s defining trait. He can be a clueless idiot sometimes (the most lovable of clueless idiots), but all he does, he does for those he loves. Every choice he makes and action he takes is for those he loves and what he believes to be their best interests. Did I mention that he’s also kind, gentle, fearless, clever, and selfless? Much like James Norrington, even when he believes Elizabeth loves another man, his #1 priority is her happiness—even if it’s not with him. Again, respecting women’s choices is sexy!
Favorite Moment: If I HAD to narrow it down, I’d be a complete liar if I didn’t say the end of TCotBP when he finally confesses his love to Elizabeth, stands up for what he believes is right, and then they share a kiss as the sun sets behind them. PEAK ROMANCE TM.
Tumblr media
6. Professor Remus Lupin (Harry Potter)
Remus doesn’t do much for me in the movies, but I am head-over-heels in love with him in the books. He’s such a genuinely kind person who’s always patient, gentle, caring, and understanding toward others, specifically students. More than that, he’s very level-headed, always the mediator in tense or difficult situations and always the one to comfort others. (Also, his solution to everything is chocolate, and that works for me). The fact that he sees himself as such a monster that he believes himself unfit to be a husband and father just breaks my heart. He’s such a wonderful human being and his death BROKE ME.
Favorite Moment: In the HBP book when Tonks confesses her feelings for him, insisting that she doesn’t care that he’s a werewolf, and he argues that he’s “too old for her, too poor ... too dangerous...” No trope gets me like the “older man thinks he’s too broken to be loved but younger woman breaks through his defenses and shows him he can be loved” trope. Self-sacrificing hero, much?
Tumblr media
7. Colonel Brandon (Sense and Sensibility)
Honestly, I could list every single Jane Austen hero on here, but Colonel Brandon is my favorite. His quiet adoration of Marianne and steadfast devotion to her get me every time. The most wonderful thing is that he never presses her, never imposes his feelings upon her or asks her to do something she doesn’t want to do. She prefers Willoughby, and he accepts that but continues to help her when he can, never requiring anything in return. He does it all because he loves her, because her merest smile is reward enough. He never pushes her, but he also never gives up on her; when she ends up heartbroken, he supports her and helps her heal. Hmmm, have I mentioned that respecting women’s choices is pretty dang hot yet?
Favorite Moment: When Marianne goes out walking in the rain after Willoughby breaks her heart, and Brandon carries her unconscious, fevered body back to the house, subsequently dashing across the country to bring her mother to her.
Tumblr media
8. Samwise Gamgee (Lord of the Rings)
So, I know I said I wouldn’t include any more LOTR characters, but as it is, I lied. How can I NOT include Sam? Wonderful, darling Sam! A lowly, humble gardener who ends up on a quest to save the world and is in fact (arguably) the true hero. His friendship, loyalty, and determination never waver, despite all the immense hardships he endures along the way. He is called Samwise the Brave, but Steadfast would serve just as well. He’s the kindest, sweetest, most courageous and unlikely of heroes. He rarely has a bad word about anyone (unless it’s 100% true) and he never gives up, even when all seems lost. He understands that love is the most important thing of all.
Favorite Moment: In ROTK when they’re almost to Mount Doom and Frodo has no more strength to continue, so Sam declares, “I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you!” and he hoists Frodo onto his shoulders, even though he himself has little strength left, and carries him to the mountain. My heart! Makes me cry every time.

Alright, I'm about to tell you guys what I told @thoresque in private.
Apparently some people have expressed the opinion that the Endgame movie was hastily written and produced, which resulted in plot holes and mistreatment of overarching character arcs and stories. That certain things happened because those involved did not use the proper respect and care with the material, and didnt have a solid outline of what would be good for the STORY and the CHARACTERS, instead of what was good for their pocketbooks. Because of this opinion, there has been pushback from others who enjoyed the movie without the same gripping disappointments, saying that we should be GRATEFUL for what was given, because a movie this big and this complicated is practically impossible, was never meant to be perfect, and you cant please everyone.
The problem that I have with this is, that the directors did exactly the opposite. They didnt try to please ANYONE. They wrote their own story that has little to no connection to the previous stories. It's like they hadnt watched the previous 10 films and picked up the characters halfway. I feel the same way about Ragnarok, and how it mutilated my favorite characters. And I LIKED Endgame. Despite liking it, I have some serious problems.
To make my point more clearly, let me shift focus. I am a die hard Lord of the Rings fan. I read The Hobbit in 5th grade, and never looked back. I've read all the books, I could give you all the meta. I know as much about Tolkien as I can, because I adore and respect him as a person and his works are a gift to my life. Fast forward to 2001 when the movies came out. Peter Jackson was told making the movies was an impossible task. Yes, impossible. That it couldn't be done in three movies, there was too much content in the book, and it would fall flat. Yet what happened, you ask? They made three incredible, timeless movies that snatched up no less than 11 awards, sweeping everything else into the dust. It was written and produced with respect and care to the original material, even though they cut a lot of it out. Is the Lord of the Rings trilogy perfect? No. Do some of us fans have some problems with the choices made? Yes. Leaving out Tom Bombadil hurt, but it made directing sense. So we came to terms with it. Giving lines from one character to another irritated me, but overall I can accept it. The characters were real, the story was gripping, and they didnt sacrifice quality for special affects. Every character, and there was a lot, was treated with respect and given closure by the end. High fantasy, impossible to produce, plenty of problems, but God i love those movies so much. Tolkien would be proud.
What Marvel did in this movie sucked ass. The ending they gave Steve would be the equivalent to Aragorn saying at the end of Return of the King, "Nevermind, I dont want to marry Arwen, whom I have loved all my life and is my elf princess and stood by me and helped me through the most difficult journey to overthrow an evil overlord. I'm going to wank off back to Numenor (which is gone and he cant go back to bc it was destroyed) and spend my days with that one chick I kissed that one time. Boromir? Who is Boromir?" This is no disrespect to Peggy Carter, i love her, but it made no gd sense. It also broke the few rules of time travel that the movie set in place. So you make your own rules, and then you break them.
And Thor just... leaving with the Guardians?? Wtf?? After all the talk in Ragnarok about Asgard being a PEOPLE, and how much his people have LOST, and are kind of hopeless? They need stability and leadership, and Thor just... doesnt care??? Not my Thor. If he had told Valkyrie, "hey, I have to go on a quest to find my brother who is very likely no longer dead because of choices made in the past" then I would have accepted it. Even a "I'm going to find a better place for our people now that Earth has all its citizens back" would make sense. Not this "I care more about myself than about the people I was raised to guard, protect, and lead." Wow. Who is this guy? Call it his depression, call it being low, call it self discovery, whatever. To me it rang very false and shallow. When Valkyrie asked when he would be back, he could have said "I will return when I am ready to be the king they deserve". THAT would have been acceptable.
Thors ending would be like Sam completely abandoning Frodo after the ring had been destroyed, deciding not to go back to the Shire to help rebuild (in the book the Shire was destroyed by Saruman), and not caring that his friends and family needed his help. Because he needed to work on himself and eat a salad. Yes, I went there.
So while I enjoyed Endgame, and the shock, and the plot, and the ending, I take serious issue with the way some of the characters were sidelined and completely reduced to something that they werent. I got into Marvel for the relationships. For the heartache and joy that the actors and actresses brought onscreen. Dont tell people to get over it. We were emotionally invested in these movies and this blatant disrespect feels like a betrayal.
