Machine Head Announce Slaughter The Martour North American Tour With Fear Factory as Direct Support.
In an electrifying announcement that will cause anticipatory convulsions through the world of metal, Bay Area icons MACHINE HEAD have announced the first leg of their 'Slaughter The Martøur Nørth America 2024’ tour. Forgoing their “An Evening With…” format for the first time in a decade, MACHINE HEAD will have LA’s cyber-metal masters FEAR FACTORY, Sweden’s ORBIT CULTURE, and Louisville, KY’s GATES TO HELL in tow guaranteeing your 2024 starts off as heavy as humanly possible!
'Slaughter The Martøur Nørth America 2024’ will kick off with a “hometown” show for MACHINE HEAD, their first since 2020 in San Francisco on January 19th. Then the tour heads north with shows in the Pacific Northwest as well as eight shows in Canada. Other stops include Chicago, Orlando, and Houston before concluding in Los Angeles on February 24th at The Bellwether.
MACHINE HEAD’s founder Robb Flynn states, "Head Cases! This will be the greatest metal tour on earth! So stoked to be getting back on the road in America/Canada with 4 masters of soul-crushing heaviness and an absolutely earth-shattering bill. Fear Factory has long been our brothers-in-arms, pioneers, and innovators of a sound that had yet to exist. Orbit Culture are the fast-rising Swedish modern metal maniacs bringing their unique spin to the world, and Gates To Hell absolutely blew my mind at Milwaukee Metalfest with their sheer savage brutality. North America, we’re ready to crush skulls, crush beers, and crush everything in our path!

Idles obliterated us at The Warfield!! OMFG!!!!! Hands down, one of the best performances this year. The crowd went absolutely nuts!! I stayed for the whole show, and I feel like I was hit by a freight train, and I wasn't even in the pit. It was a solid two hour set of twenty-four songs, and the sold-out crowd soaked up every ounce of sweat. 🔥🔥🔥💥

William Caesar Warfield (January 22, 1920 – August 25, 2002), was a concert bass-baritone singer and actor. One of his earliest professional engagements was in Marc Blitzstein's Broadway opera, Regina. His breakthrough came when he gave his recital debut in New York's Town Hall in 1950. He went on to produce a highly acclaimed album of selections from Porgy and Bess with Leontyne Price in 1963. He was born in West Helena, Arkansas, the oldest of five sons of a Baptist minister. He grew up in Rochester, New York. In 1938, as a senior at Washington High School in Rochester, he won the Music Educators National Song Competition in St. Louis and expressed an interest in pursuing a career on the concert stage. Inducted into the Army in November 1942, a senior at the Eastman School of Music, presented his graduation recital before an overflow audience at Kilbourn Hall, Eastman Theater. He graduated in 1942 and served in the military, he returned to the Eastman School to complete a MA in 1946. He gave his recital debut in New York's Town Hall on March 19, 1950. He was quickly invited by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation to tour Australia and give 35 concerts. In 1952, He performed in Porgy and Bess during a tour of Europe sponsored by the US State Department (he made six separate tours for the Department of State, more than any other American solo artist.) In this production, he played opposite the opera star Leontyne Price, whom he soon married, but the demands of two separate careers left them little time together. They divorced in 1972 but were featured together in a 1963 studio recording of excerpts from Porgy and Bess. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnt8expL-sK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

i was making a post about how it made no sense to me that mcr was playing the fox theater in oakland in 2011 because that place is tiny & before posting i decided to see where they played in the bay area on the black parade tour and they did two nights at the warfield ?? which is smaller??? i feel like . maybe i have been massively overestimating how big mcr was in the 2000s but also this just does not make sense to me

we always somebody else
"While these men sold out stadiums, however, women comedians, still combating the social construction of humor as a masculine practice, remained largely excluded from comedy-club main stages and cable network specials, and were hindered from exercising the expanded expressive possibilities of stand-up comedy (Zoglin 2008, 183)."
"In the comedy-club circuit, [Danitra] Vance recognized a “tradition” of performers yielding to audience expectations to secure laughs (Vance 1994, 383). Unwilling to let audiences remain “who they were when they came in,” she made the decision to “say to hell with the audience,” in part by pivoting to performance art and theater (Vance 1994, 384)"
"I use the metaphor to illustrate the challenges of eliciting laughter from an audience whose referents for the performer are girded in a gaze that Toni Morrison assails in The Bluest Eye. In the novel’s afterword, Morrison frames her writing in relationship to an “immutable inferiority originating in an outside gaze” ([1970] 2004, 210)"
"Misogynoir speaks to how the great distances between the somebody elses’ invented by “a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity” and the self, are a distinct conundrum for Black women comedians (Du Bois 1903, 3)."
on pg 193 talks about warfield wanting to be as close to herself onstage as possible

Okean Elzy, Travis Barker and Goo Goo Dolls (John Rzeznik) presents: Lighthouse
Ukraine's most beloved and enduring band Okean Elzy will release their first-ever English-language studio album, Lighthouse, on October 11 via Elektra.
The group herald the record’s announcement with the title track and new single “Lighthouse” featuring John Rzeznik of Goo Goo Dolls out on all streaming platforms now.
Produced by John Feldmann (Blink 182, Avril Lavigne, 5 Seconds of Summer), and co-written by Slava, Feldmann and Eva Arnby Busacker (5 Seconds of Summer, Landon Barker), the track also features Travis Barker on drums.
A portion of the proceeds from the song will be donated to United24, an initiative launched by the president of Ukraine in support of the country during the ongoing war.
The video uplif the song.
youtube
About the song, Okean Elzy’s lead vocalist Sviastoslav ‘Slava’ Vakarchuk says, "The creative process was a unique experience for me. Working alongside Feldy and Evey was both fun and inspirational. The song came together in a matter of minutes. Having Travis on drums took the vibe up to a whole other level, and is yet another example of how special the human camaraderie and support is on this track.”
"Lighthouse is a very powerful metaphor for me," Slava continues. "As a Ukrainian I couldn't think of a better metaphor to express our hope for the future, which is part of why the song and album bear that name." About collaborating with John Rzeznik, Slava adds, "I am extremely honored to have John Rzeznik sing in this song. His performance makes the song feel wider. As a legendary artist he takes this collaboration beyond just music. Thank you for your support of Ukraine, John.”
