14:00 - phil interrupting dan while he was playing piano and telling him to continue playing, which dan does while phil’s watches.

1:08 - dan has the camera pointed toward himself but he isn’t speaking to it, he is looking at phil and talking directly to phil when telling him how on their agenda for the day, they will be putting up their christmas tree.

1:16 - phil’s so hungry and he asks dan if he’s had breakfast yet, dan says ‘no, not yet’. then dan smiles as he explains that they’ve been waiting for each other to wake up to have breakfast, so they can have breakfast together and watch anime.

1:38 - dan sings the circle of life as phil talks about his cereal rotation, phil joins in but instead of singing whatever the proper words are he adds his own cereal themed spin on the lyrics. dan is attempting to look over it, done with him, but instead he looks incredibly fond.

1:51 - dan asks what phil’s doing sitting next to the fireplace, phil’s warming himself up and they have a laugh about it. then dan in a softer voice warns phil not to lean back too far, as not to get burned.

2:31 - dan telling phil that he got a package with new shoes and proceeds to put them on the table, phil has a genuine mini freak out because of the superstition that putting shoes on a table will bring serious misfortune, dan doesn’t let phil’s anxiety rise for even a second before telling phil it’s actually a coat.

3:01 - leaning into each other and posing while showing off their christmas jumpers.

3:24 - dan asks phil if he’s blown out the candle he lit earlier and goes on to explain that he asked because phil constantly leaves lit candles unattended, phil is a little embarrassed and tells dan that he doesn’t and that he’s editing that out of the video (which he doesn’t)

3:40 - both of them checking themselves out in the mirror and fixing their hair.

3:49 - dan asks phil if there’s a spider on his head and phil tries to prank (their version of a ‘prank’) dan by telling him there is a spider, and poking his hair, dan can tell phil’s not being serious and gives him that fond i’m so done look and phil makes himself giggle at his own joke.

4:31 - dan offers phil £100 to lick his hand that’s touching the rail on the train, phil goes to do it before laughing and stopping. they do that to each other all the time, make little dares to do silly stupid things that they don’t actually expect the other to do.

4:57 - they’re walking to their intended destination and they come across a starbucks, phil wants to go inside and try their christmas drinks, dan questions this, but ultimately they make a spontaneous pitstop so phil can try the drinks. what phil wants, phil gets.

5:11 - another little dare, this time from phil, daring dan to lick the window.

5:15 - phil tells dan his christmas tree drawing on the window is festive in a singsongy voice, dan lets out a breathy laugh as he smiles the biggest smile while looking directly at phil.

5:32 - dan calls phil out, without any bitterness or frustration in his voice, for abandoning conversation during their lunch (at the place phil wanted to stop at) to play phone games. knowing that phil is a phone game fiend, this is probably a recurring issue.

6:00 - dan gets phil’s attention and points out a bus that says penguins, then they both say penguins to each other in a silly voice. pointing things out to each other and being silly :) probably something they do all day long :)

6:23 - phil shows a comic called terrible lizard and says that in a silly voice, dan lets out a quiet laugh from behind the camera and when phil turns the camera to him, he makes a dinosaur face, which makes phil laugh. the silly voices and doing things to make each other laugh :)) <3

7:35 - dan asks phil to tell him what just happened, phil says a man came up to him and woofed in his ear, which dan laughed at and then turned the camera around to say that he thinks phil dramatizes his weird experiences and mimicked phil dramatizing an experience.

8:11 - they poke fun at astrology and come up with very generic horoscopes, phil tells dan that he’s going to have dreams, dan tells phil that he’s going to have sex. and dan would know.

8:28 - dan shares that he wants to take up running as they pass a running shop and they both laugh about it, seems as if phil didn’t want to go into the running shop and waits for dan outside.

9:18 - phil makes dan stop and points out the moomin shop, dan’s curious and phil tells dan that they’re going in there and starts walking without waiting. he won’t go into a running shop with dan, but he will Tell dan to go into a shop with him, and dan Will follow. simp.

9:28 - phil points out a vendor selling mulled wine and says that he wants it and wants to feel more festive, dan asks phil if they should ask for some, and phil jokes that they’re not going to just steal it. dan simping again, if phil wants something then he will have it.

10:13 - they pass kings cross and phil asks dan if he wants to go to hogwarts, dan says that they’d hit the wall, phil tells dan that he doesn’t believe in the magic, and dan lets out a breathy laugh and smiles widely. not even a funny joke, not even really a joke, but everything about phil makes dan laugh and smile.

10:42 - dan carrying the tree into the lounge. obviously. because phil doesn’t like heavy things.

11:10 - the tiniest mini spat over phil sitting where the tree needs to go, trying to defend his seating placement, and dan gesturing wildly as he’s suggesting phil move.

12:01 - phil carrying something heavy, something he Can lift on his own (as he did lift it from their storage cupboard to the living room) but asking dan for help as soon as he’s close, and dan immediately going to help him set the container of christmas decorations down. phil gets what he wants always.

12:06 - dan suggesting phil does a christmas face and phil makes a weird face, causing dan to let out a hearty laugh. phil suggests dan do the same, dan makes a weird face, and phil laughs. they are so fond of each other.

14:02 - dan singing pizza when phil retrieves the pizza, which scares phil because phil wasn’t expecting dan to be there, dan continuing his pizza song, and phil joining in.

14:35 - phil singing the spiderman theme instrumental as he pulls the blinds tassel with a spiderman on it down, and giving dan the biggest smile ever.

14:47 - dan looking at phil as he retells the story of them having a little argument over disagreeing on wrapping paper etiquette.

15:18 - phil showing that he got his mother a cookbook and dan whining because ‘i thought that was for us’.

15:37 - dan filming phil’s ass as phil’s bent over and saying ‘butt’, then continuing on in conversation like that was a totally normal thing to do.

16:11 - dan raising his eyebrows as phil starts explaining how to wrap presents, and as we know, he does not like how phil wraps presents.

16:14 - phil biting the tape to rip it and then sticking it on his nose, and dan laughing loudly when the tape falls off.

16:35 - phil showing dan the present he wrapped, and dan’s exasperated ‘phil!’ when he sees the paper is folded in odd places and there are flaps hanging out.

17:06 - them randomly doing impressions of their favorite vines. just making each other laugh.

17:24 - dan singing ‘under the tree’ to the tune of under the sea, pointing to phil to finish the lyric, and phil doing little crab hands.

17:34 - dan explaining that they were going to work on something for the gaming channel and then showing phil sitting in bed reading a book.

18:50 - phil sharing that after gaming videos he gets stupidly hungry and looking around in the cupboards for food, when they had already looked for food before ordering dinner, knowing they have no food, which is what led them to order pizza.

I'm writing a fic based on the DBHC au (Detroit Become Hermitcraft au) story/comics by Shepscapades here on Tumblr! If you're not familiar with it, I highly recommend you check it out! I have SUCH brainrot and the storyline and art are so compelling.

I also want to stress this isn't my au - only the explanation and snippets of my little story is my own work. :) All credit goes to Shepscapades for all that and the brainrot

- DBHC spans Hermitcraft (seasons 8 and onwards) and the Life Series (note that all androids were absent from Third Life due to not being created yet)

- It makes use of the android mechanics from the video game Detroit Become Human <- don't worry about that part just yet though :)

- Most major post-Season 7 events seem to still be canon here, and there's a lot of other things going on in each of the androids' - and hermits' - lives (and trauma. </3. yeah. Etho and so many others are Going Through It), often as a consequence of those events.

Anyone new to the au should probably have a look at this illustrated guide post You don't have to read all of it, but I strongly suggest at least checking out the "Guide to Androids", "Deviancy" and even the "Interfacing" sections for proper context!

BASICALLY At some point around Season 8, Xisuma designs androids (like Mumbo, Etho, Impulse and Doc) to assign to some of the hermits (Grian, Bdubs, Pearl and Ren to name a few) for help with everything from building to terraforming. Everything goes relatively smoothly, up until... the androids begin to deviate. <- hence why I linked this post earlier!

This isn't entirely necessary for anything other than understanding the characters and the overarching narrative a bit more, but if you do want further context + cool art + a small break from my rambles, here (1), here (2) and here (3) are really good comics that sorta explain how DBHC Ethubs' relationship starts, and here (4) is the first part of Etho's first deviancy! uh. So like things happened here. Don’t worry about that being labelled first. Or it not being at all normal for an android to deviate twice. Or what situation caused it. Uh. Yeah. :’)

I'm writing an incredibly fluffy (and there's angst now too hehe) oneshot on the two of them.

They've been planting saplings for Bdubs’ Season 10 forest (Etho was originally designed to help with terraforming and that, after all) and it's late afternoon, so, Bdubs being Bdubs, he's tired.

And tired people are clingy, they let their guard down a bit, they start giving in slightly to things they don't have enough energy to fight.

Like the urge to reach out and go hey, come back, I actually want you to play with my hair, I want you to lie with me in the sunshine, I want to listen to the sound of your android heart (thirium pump) because it's a reassurance that even though my eyes are closed you're still nearby, I want you here, and I'm going to hang on to you because I don't ever want you to leave again.

I half-wrote that little summary of my fic a little while back as a proof of concept but. Yeah.

What are your tips on making textposts?

For EE and most shows, getting screenshots is a pretty simple matter of screenshotting it. (If you’re on a computer, there’s extensions to get screenshots off youtube) Games can be more tricky but youtube videos playing the game can make it easier. You can try googling for screenshots but that. Doesn’t always work. Character sprites also can work! Do not use fanart without the artist’s permission and proper credit.

Find your text post, screenshot, plop background-colored-squares or highlighting over anything you want to remove (usernames, follow buttons, etc)

Grab a software that lets you edit photos (I’ve used tons. I’ve used mspaint and google docs before. For my phone i use ibispaint or picsart for most of my meme making, and firealpaca for my computer), plop down the screenshot, then the text, save as one layer, and voila! Text post

Image IDs are incredibly important. Tumblr is not a functioning website so don’t trust the image id feature, it doesnt always save and has limited space. You can find tons of guides on writing descriptions with a quick search for “image id guide”. Some general rules I’ve picked up are don’t put it under a readmore unless it’s insanely long (as it is extra clicks for those who need to use screenreaders and if someone’s tumblr isnt gonna load the image, it might not load the page with the id, and if your blog deactivates the id will be lost), try to make reading the id take about the same amount of time as looking at the picture to grasp the joke, which means don’t go into absurdly long detail. Try to be faithful to the text in the meme, but understand the limits of screen readers. They don’t have autocorrect, they won’t understand that “shluod” is a mispelled “should”. They can struggle with words put together likethisandthis. Ellipses and spaced out words like “t h i s” take incredibly long for the screen reader to read. If needs be, substitute with (ellipses) or (the following words have spaces between letters). Be sure to mark it with Image ID and End ID, especially if there’s added text to the post that’s not in the photos.

Let’s Get Distracted! 

Part One

When it comes to dealing with things that we can’t actually change or improve, distraction is key. Going over things again and again is distressing, because there’s no actual problem to solve, no solution that’s going to appear the more that we think about it.

Distraction doesn’t mean that we’re ignoring things, or that we’re choosing to be uninformed. Distraction is a good way to stay sane in the middle of devastating anxiety, because panic isn’t going to help anyone at all. It is perfectly fine to find something to get obsessed with, to use this time to learn a new skill, or even just work on getting through the day without losing your mind in the barrage of awful news that keeps happening.

So here are some fun things to do that are free (at least for a little bit) to hopefully help you kill some time and try not to get bogged down with anxiety. For this first list, I tried to grab a variety of things that people may not have known about. Later, I’ll be putting together lists that might require supplies (for crafts), or may lead you to links to cheap entertainment. This one, though, I’ve tried to keep free for you - or at least stuff with a good free trial!

Most of these are for use in the browser or on your laptop. A couple of things also have phone apps (but I’ll be doing a list of games/apps later specifically for phones). I personally have a Chromebook, so I’m not the person to talk to about software for games and such, but if anyone wants a list of fun free/cheap games on the Switch or PS4 or Steam, let me know and I’m happy to make recommendations!

Some Things to Get Distracted By

Neopets - Yes, they still exist! They’re still pretty fun, too. Plenty of flash games, plenty of light-hearted stuff. Clearly aimed for children, but just as enjoyable for adults too, especially if you’re looking to kill some time and bask in some nostalgia.

Flight Rising - Pet site where you breed dragons! Older audience than Neopets, with a heavy creative side.

HexRPG - Incredibly in-depth Harry Potter fan-roleplay site. Attend classes, roleplay on the frankly insane amount of forums, enjoy the events and contests. Great for writers and artists, honestly just plain fun.

4theWords - A browser-based game for writers! It’s the one that I use, and I really enjoy it. Defeat monsters with your word count, participate in events, post on forums, and play through the game. First month is a free trial, and after that it’s around $4 a month! (My referral code is: MVLRL19774)

Duolingo - Okay, everyone knows about the app, yes. Free language-learning. But the browser site is also amazing, and this is an excellent time to dig into learning that language you’ve always wanted to know. I’m using it to brush up on my Japanese so I can talk to my extended family without as much of a language barrier.

CrunchyRoll - A lot of the anime is actually free-to-watch with ads, and they have a mobile app! You can sign up for free, make your watchlist, get really into a great anime (the new Fruits Basket is pretty good), or even take a trip down memory lane and watch something like Rurouni Kenshin or Cardcaptor Sakura!

Good Mythical Morning - A YouTube series by a couple of best friends that is, frankly, utterly hilarious. If you’re looking for hilarity that isn’t completely wrapped up in video game streams or a specific niche, GMM is a great place to find some laughs. I highly recommend the Post Malone nursery rhyme video!

Libby - This one is US-centered, I believe - sorry! Libby is a free ebook/audiobook library operated by Overdrive that works with your library. You can loan out ebooks and audiobooks based on what your library has available, and a library card is required. You can hook the app to your Kindle and send books to read from your phone, or read them directly in your Libby app. A lot of the most recent, popular books have holds that can last a while, but there are plenty of things to read all the same. Right now, I have Gideon the Ninth and The Babysitters Coven checked out! *this is an app, I’m not sure about a browser edition

Pixlr - Free image editing! I lost Photoshop CS5 when my last laptop bit the dust, but I love using Pixlr to make graphics like phone wallpapers, icons, tumblr headers, and more. Pick a classic book and a color palette, or some stills from your favorite Disney movie, and get creative. Also great for moodboards.

NotAlwaysRight - This website is all about dumb customers. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that if you’ve worked with people at all, there’s something here to laugh about. On top of that, they’ve been operating for years, so there’s a bunch of material, as well as sister sites like NotAlwaysWorking, NotAlwaysRomantic, and NotAlwaysLearning, among others.

Rob Zombie; "Why it's time to step outside the confinements of his own box."

For close to four decades,

 Rob Zombie has brought nonstop psychedelic grooves and a rockstar presence while gracing his own music and the silver screen with gut-churning, drug-tripping visuals. He not only commands quite the presence in films (whether his own successes or others’), but also makes appearances within many other horror soundtracks. There’s no denying that Zombie is a bloodied savant who has stayed incredibly consistent.

Let’s take a dive into his music before getting into his film library. From 1985-1997, White Zombie released six albums (between studio and compilations). La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One didn’t break into the Billboard 200 chart until a year after its 1992 release. Shortly thereafter, it became the hot and groovy bong success of the band, going on to sell two million copies. Astro Creep 2000, their final and fourth studio release, was their first and only album to chart within the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 in 1995. Up to this day in 2020, “White Zombie” has been featured in 47 TV, film, and video game soundtracks, from Beavis & Butthead to Pen15 to Bride Of Chucky (which includes a personal favorite moment of mine), amongst many others.

After the disbandment and separation, Zombie continued on his solo journey. He has gone on to release six studio albums, with a seventh on the way in March 2021, titled The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy. A multitude of hits—eight to be exact—sat within the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 records.

Zombie’s extensive film career is a “Super Beast” on its own. 

He has been very vocal about gaining inspiration from 1920s-1980s horror culture. In many interviews, he’s cited Stan Lee, Bella Lugosi, Alice Cooper, and Steven Speilberg as being responsible for molding the brain that we know today. 

Some of his influences include:

George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1978)

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

In 2000, Rob made his directorial and (very memorable) screen debut with House Of 1000 Corpses. 

It took three years to be released because of quarrels with major production companies regarding the film’s majorly aggressive themes of torture, blood, violence, sex—not to mention his arrogance with MGM, fighting to get rights back from Universal. Eventually, Lionsgate bit the bullet, albeit with the major stipulation of having Rob edit it down much further so House could pass with a “tame” R rating.

In 2005 and 2019, the franchise’s next two installments—Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell—were released. The franchise is heavily influenced by the shocking, sickening, and unforgettable ’70s classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It follows a family of psychotic, sadistic, and bloodthirsty (if I’m being honest) necrophiliacs. They kidnap, kill, torture and brutalize anyone who gets in their way. At the end of Devil’s Rejects, they somehow manage to survive a police shootout, escape prison, and waltz on into Mexico (as seen in the franchise finale 3 from Hell).

Look, it’s all complicated.

Look, this is a remake that you either adore or hate with a burning passion. If you’re a horror fanatic, you know what’s up with the original.

I personally adore Zombie’s take. The fact alone that he gave us an entire background story as to why Michael became the psychotic slasher that we’ve come to know and love. Plus, with an increased suspense and gore factor? Worked incredibly well and did justice (in my opinion).

The film made me feel bad for Michael, with moments of child Myers in therapy, particularly his love for making masks to pass the time while he was locked up and the touching family moments between him and his mother Deborah (Sheri Moon).

Add in the supporting cast of Michael McDowell (Loomis), Brad Douriff (Sheriff Leigh), Scout Taylor-Compton (Laurie Strode), etc., and I honestly think that it came together very well as a remake.

The films rated relatively low, but they did gross higher than the budgets that they originally had to film on. Again, I’m not going to give much attention to the higher-ups of critical perception—it all comes down to personal taste.

“Lords of Salem” (2013)

A film that’s centered within Salem, Massachusetts, 

this film—you guessed it—tackles witches, occultism, possession, Satan, and all the usual topics. Heidi (Sherri Moon) is a radio DJ who gets sent a mysterious record that’s labeled as being from “The Lords.” From then on out, shit gets a little dicey and admittedly, very disjointed. You can’t fault the cast here, and I loved the visuals that they were going for. However, with set schedule conflicts and multiple rewrites, which led to essentially running out of time to film? As a whole, what looked great on paper just couldn’t be done justice.

My FAVORITE sequence within the film (SPOILERS): 

I can forgive the disjointedness solely because of how mind-boggling and brilliant the film’s history and proper visuals were. Also, we got to see Dee Wallace, Judy Geeson, and Patricia Quinn as creepy and badass witches who moonlight as Heidi’s landlords. Also Meg Foster who leads their coven? Can we talk about what a femme-fueled power cast that is?!

Like I said prior, the film gets a little wild. If you’re...well, buzzed prior to watching, it may make a little more sense.

“31” (2016)

[Synopsis from IMDB; “Five carnival workers are kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned, hellish compound where they are forced to participate in a violent game, the goal of which is to survive twelve hours against a gang of sadistic clowns.”]

Here, we clearly see that Zombie is invoking his childhood growing up within carnivals. In a 2013 interview with LA Weekly, Zombie divulged more about it:

“When we were kids, my parents would [work at the carnivals], and me and my brother would get dragged along to these things all the time and have to work.”

He went further on to say;

 “Yeah, and it's not the nicest world. As a kid, you get exposed to the crazier underworld of the carnival. Me and my brother, when we were very little, we'd be inside the haunted house playing all day. So, already, what people are paying money to be scared [of], we're just playing in because it's fun. We saw the inner workings behind the machines.”

Set in 1976, Zombie stays true to his nods. Again, depending on taste, this is a huge hit or a wild miss with mindless homicidal violence, campiness, and climbs across the monkey bar of standards that we’re used to seeing from him.

So at this point, you’re probably wondering why I think that it’s time for Rob Zombie to step out of the confinements of his own box...

It’s no secret that Zombie sticks to only a small group of tropes: 

Slashers, families or groups of homicidals that lack remorse, the occult, etc. There’s no shame in sticking to what you know. Hell, Zombie has seemingly cracked the code over the past two decades that he’s been in the film industry that so many directors still don’t seem to get.

IMO, despite whatever you personally feel about the films mentioned above- I feel like we’re living a freaky groundhog day repeat within Zombie’s filmography.

Now, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? Look, I’m not saying that Zombie has to change anything. However, I would love to see him tackle some other nuances that we’ve already seen from him in small doses.

- Children: We haven’t seen Zombie exactly take on what horror films depict kids as. Sure, he made a breakout and impeccable choice with young Michael Myers (Daeg Faerch) back in 2007. I personally would adore to see a reimagined (NOT remade) Children of the Corn on acid, one we all know Zombie can tackle and turn every existing view on its head.

- Witchcraft, The Occult, Satan, Voodoo:  Zombie genuinely had a phenomenal concept (on paper) for 2012’s Lords of Salem. It was unfortunate that they ran out of resources and ran into unfortunate circumstances on set while filming. 

The film wasn’t a total tank, though, given how inspiring and insane all the visuals were throughout the 1 hr, 41min film. I am absolutely positive that, given a full-force opportunity, Rob could rectify the mess that was out of his control. We completely saw that he provided visuals that left quite the impression, and he could take those taboo subjects by the goat horns.

- Animals (not the human form): It’s no secret that Rob and his wife Sherri are ethical vegetarians. It would be so tongue and cheek to see them take on such topics as animals getting their revenge, or even vegetarians torturing carnivores. This twist on the formula would make for an interesting viewing.

2.) In regard to time periods, 

Zombie stays within—and pays homage to—the 1970s and 1980s quite a bit. Obviously, those are the eras that Zombie personally loves the most when it comes to filmmaking. However, it would be very interesting to see him take on current day settings. 

Zombie has such a unique viewpoint. Given changing climates in politics, human decline/growth, the economy, etc., he would do work that could easily put Ryan Murphy to shame.

3.) He could also do with some different casting every now and then.

Let me preface this by saying that I adore every repeat casting choice that Zombie has made for his films. 

Of course chemistry is a huge thing, and sticking to his friends is a very smart choice. However, he also has the potential to make new stars, boosting the power of those that may be under the radar. He can support those new stars with cameos from classic actors that we haven’t seen in awhile. I can’t begin to even fictionally cast those who fit the bill, but I do believe that with the “Zombie Touch,” he can bring so much more fresh air to the usual casting.

There’s no doubting what Rob Zombie is clearly very good at. Despite mixed reviews from the horror world and critics, it’s time that his fans open their eyes to new possibilities. Of course, there are die-hards, but digging your feet in further doesn’t allow the growth of horror and its ever evolving themes.

Still, it never hurts to challenge the set standards and ways.

Tumblr asked if I had a question for "The Boyz" and I have no actual clue who they are, so I'm asking you one instead. What kind of media would you NOT consider covering for HYHA (like books, full movies, events, social media accounts, comics, etc)?

Great question actually! Get ready for a LONG ANSWER lol

For the most part, I see any sort of media as fair game, however some formats work better than others. Stuff that I’ve personally found to be the best are: -Old movies/TV specials -Strange YouTube channels -Social Media Accounts -And Fanfiction (Fan comics)

Meanwhile, stuff like books or comics can be incredibly hard. While yes they CAN work, some are far too long and I like having visuals that are engaging so I have to put in some extra effort for editing and animation.

Also, a big NO NO is stuff made by big well known companies that might be obscure, like a TV Show currently airing or something. Not only does that defeat the purpose of “HYHA”, but it could possibly anger the almighty YouTube copyright system!

And while we’re on the topic of stuff that works and stuff that doesn’t, I may as well also talk about recommendations, and my dream topics!

Many people always recommend me stuff with millions of views, or stuff that has been covered to death by other YouTubers (an example being the animated film series “Killer Bean”). I will NEVER want to make a video on those types of things because they already have MASSIVE exposure, it sort of defeats the purpose of asking “Have you heard about” in the first place. There will be times I break this rule, but I am pretty firm on it. I want to get a hold of really niche stuff, the “Spongebob Beyond” video is a golden example of what I’m looking for in HYHA. -Only around 1k subs or under -Insanely well made yet strange with almost nearly no info written up online about what it is or who makes it -Fun to speculate about or show off to viewers

In memory of Cris

Today I learned that Cris, AKA @crisontumblr​, passed away on 10/10/2018.

I tried to go back on tumblr to see when we first became friends.  That info isn’t even available anymore.  The best guess is 4-5 years ago, sometime when we were both very into Bioshock Infinite and writing down all of our angsty feelings about it.  Turns out talk about ripping holes in space time and messed up bastards drowning their sorrow in whiskey makes for fast friends.

Cris was an awesome one.  She was always happy to talk long into the night about theories and story ideas, character treatises both serious and silly.  We didn’t always go for the same characters, or if we did sometimes it was for different reasons, which could make for fascinating conversation.  She was funny and sarcastic, but also deeply supportive and kind.

Cris was a great penpal.  Seriously, I don’t know where some of it came from but she sent me some bitchin’ swag.  I have a homemade splicer mask and ADAM and EVE vials she sent me, an Agents of SHIELD lanyard, Cullen art.  And of course, we enjoyed the occasional fic exchange with forays into each others’ universes.  

She was a gamer, through and through.  Her gaming interests were varied and wide.  She streamed and shared her videos of a multitude of games, but ultimately I think she most loved games that you could hang a story on, which she did with aplomb.

Cris was a cosplayer of epic proportions.  You have only to see how she utilized her wheelchair in some incredible cosplays to be impressed -- I mean, who else could cosplay the Mother from Dragon Age: Awakening, or the Dollar Bill vending machine from Bioshock Infinite?  She took joy in others’ cosplay, too, and one of her sweetest posts was justifiably bragging about her mom’s insanely good Maleficent cosplay.  

Cris was a fantastic writer.  Just see her Tabristair Masterpost if you don’t believe me, or her AO3 account.  Her stories featured deft characterization, biting humor, gentle romance, realistic passion, enthusiastic consent, and gripping action.  She also used her work in fandom to touch on real-life issues of race, language politics, otherness, sexuality, and mental health, but never in a way that felt preachy or forced.  Instead, her examination of those topics arose naturally by staying true to her characters and their journeys.  She also showed some incredible worldbuilding in her work on the politics and structuring of the Grey Wardens, and I know she must have had notebooks full of her ideas that didn’t all make it onto tumblr.

She was a cheerleader in the best sense of the word -- if she knew you were hard at work on a story, she was happy to edit it for you for maximum effect and emotion.  She wasn’t shy about telling a person what she liked about a story.  Her reviews were so honest, so specific, and so absolutely lovely they often reduced me to giddy blushing.  It’s rare to receive good feedback in the fanfiction world, and knowing that, Cris would make her appreciation of your work beautifully plain.  She was extremely encouraging.

Cris was also a great dog mom.  Her little fella, Delta Sinclair, is the handsomest, goodest Chihuahua mix and obviously was her treasured companion from day 1.  He brought her immeasurable joy and I’m so glad she got to love on him during their time together.

Cris was disabled.  She fought vociferously against stereotypes about disabled people, smacking down both well-meaning ignorance and straight-up maliciousness.  She cheerfully explained how her wheelchair was awesome because it allowed her to explore the world; she shared her medical stories to help demystify aspects of her life that were unknown to most abled people.  She advocated for the disabled community, and advocated for herself to be thought of as valued, present, and real, which she was, every day.

Cris, I’m going to miss you a great deal.  I’m sure you are PISSED right now that you didn’t punch Death in the throat this time around.  You’d already cheated him several times, though, which is still extremely impressive.  If there’s an afterlife, I hope you are cussing Death the fuck out because goddammit, this isn’t fair.  

I’m going to miss you, Cris, and all the stories from you I’ll never get to read.  But I’m glad to have known you.  You were a badass, you do realize?  Still are, in my book.

What if...

Okay, so bear with me here! This is just a theory that came to my mind a minute ago, and I'm delving WAY too deep into it to not go ahead and share it with you all. I don't necessarily have any evidence to prove it, but hey, it's just a fun theory so relax!

Alright, so I came back from my third viewing of "IT" and all I could keep thinking about was what Jack had said in his "YOU'LL FLOAT TOO | IT VR Experience" video, about how he'd possibly take inspiration from Pennywise for Anti in later videos, who knows? So it got me thinking about what Pennywise - or IT - is capable of doing, and one of the first things that came to mind was the ability of playing with people's heads and making them see things that aren't there. Example of this - Spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen either of the movies! - is when a girl (Beverly) hears voices come from the bathroom sink, only for an insane amount of blood to burst out of the drain and drench both her and the entire bathroom. She screams and her dad immediately comes running in to check on her. The thing is, he can't see any of the blood at all, and as such, basically thinks his daughter is freaking out over nothing. She can see the blood, but he can't.

Where I'm going with this is this: What if Anti had the ability to manipulate what we're seeing and hearing? What if he could make us see and hear things that he wants us to see and hear? What if all this time, since he first showed up in October, everything we've been seeing and led to believe in has been one big mind game? What if Jack is perfectly fine and Anti is only making himself known to us and not Jack? What if Anti's screwing with our heads and making us see things that aren't really there? Going with the theory that he can tamper with and control technology, he could EASILY do that.

Just hear me out. Think about this for a moment, alright?

We leave comments and such about Anti all the time and ask Jack what's going on with Anti, and we'll see his replies regarding the glitch. But what if they're all lies? What if those aren't Jack's actual replies? What if the real Jack is confused and has absolutely no IDEA what we're talking about? Anti - who's that? He's not showing up in any of Jack's videos.

The "Say Goodbye" video is just a perfectly fine, murder-free pumpkin-carving video.

"Always Watching" was only an introduction to the panel at PAX, there is no "Anti" involved.

And "Kill Jack" was just a regular Bio Inc video.

Basically, what if Anti has made us all unknowingly go totally insane and paranoid, and here's Jack - the REAL Jack - off to the side, unbeknownst to us, watching his community lose their minds over some non-existent character he's never once heard of before. Anti would make us look like completely raving lunatics! We're obsessing over an entity that looks exactly like Jack - an evil unstable version of him. We're making fanart, fanfiction, edits, and theories, and practically worshipping this person. We're paranoid about when he'll return, we're making theories about how Anti has been in control of Jack since Halloween. Could you imagine how that would all look and sound to Jack - the REAL Jack, the Jack we have been kept from seeing for so long? I don't know about anyone else, but that would be incredibly unnerving and disconcerting.

Again, I have absolutely no evidence to support this theory, but how could I gather evidence when the theory is of how everything we've been seeing and hearing has been a lie?

Think about it! There'd be no way for us to know the truth! After all, we watch Jack online. Everything dealing with him we do online. YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter - all of it! We see him through pictures and videos - Anti could EASILY manipulate all of that to make us see what he wants us to see. Seriously, what if this entire time we've been played? How would we ever know what was real and what wasn't? We'd have no idea!

And what about Jack - the REAL Jack? Is he actually in danger or not? Is he fine? Is he dead? Is Anti actually possessing him? If Anti showed up in October and he's been manipulating everything we see and hear, how the FUCK would we ever be able to tell what was real or not?

I'm sorry. It's late and all of this just suddenly burst in my head; I had to share my completely absurd theory. Again, it's just a fun ol' theory! I don't think this is really what's going on (although man, if it was, could you imagine? O_O).

How to Create a Content Marketing System That Runs on Autopilot

I think we can all agree that content marketing is both practical and potent.

It’s the ultimate form of inbound marketing and makes total sense when you need to reach 21st century consumers.

I could even spout off a laundry list of stats that prove just how big of an impact content marketing can have.

There’s the insane volume of leads, minimal financial investment, increased audience engagement, high ROI, and so on.

But if there’s any area where content marketers run into trouble, it’s the inherently time-consuming nature of the process.

Creating epic content takes time and energy. And not everyone has the time to devote to this marketing strategy.

And this doesn’t even include the additional effort needed to manage a campaign.

In many cases, it can take so much time that it hinders your ability to oversee other areas of business. Not good.

Here are some stats that put some perspective on just how time-consuming content marketing can be.

“72 percent of marketers are producing more content than they did the previous year.”

“Most B2B marketers use at least 13 content marketing tactics.”

“60 percent of marketers create at least one piece of content each day.”

“76 percent of B2B marketers will create more content in 2016 versus 2015.”

If these trends continue, the time investment required for content marketing will keep growing and growing.

And of course you have to consider that competition levels will continue to rise as well.

With more brands catching wind of the potential of this technique, it will become increasingly difficult to make your campaign stand out from the masses, requiring even more of your time.

What’s the solution?

As a person who’s incredibly busy myself, I’ve figured out some effective ways to run a content marketing campaign that requires the least amount of time but still achieves maximum results.

The content quality remains stellar, but I don’t have to perpetually “stoke the fire” to keep things running smoothly.

In other words, my campaign requires less time (and stress), but everything still operates at a high level.

Here’s how to create a content marketing system that runs on autopilot.

Campaign structuring and organization

In my opinion, a well built campaign starts at the top and trickles down.

You need to keep chaos at bay by having a clear game plan and making sure that all of your team members are on the same page at all times.

How do you do this?

I recommend using an online collaborative content calendar.

Although your basic spreadsheet can be helpful, I’ve found it’s seldom sufficient to meet my needs.

However, an online collaborative content calendar allows you and your team to:

Systematically plan and coordinate your content

Make edits that can be viewed in real time

Keep track of deadlines

Monitor progress each step of the way from conception to completion

I also prefer this to a spreadsheet because of the visual element. I just find it easier to keep my ducks in a row when I can visually see what’s happening and what needs to get done.

By staying organized, you can streamline collaboration, spend a lot less time scrambling to find information, and reduce your mistakes.

Some tools I recommend include CoSchedule, Buffer, and HubSpot.

Brainstorming

I’ve found that half of the battle of content marketing is simply coming up with new ideas for blog posts, white papers, videos, etc.

There never seems to be enough new ideas to “feed the hungry content monster.”

One way you can expedite the brainstorming process is to have a handful of idea-generating resources at your disposal.

I personally love BuzzSumo because it’s perfect for pointing me to articles on practically any topic under the sun.

Take content marketing for example.

By entering “content marketing” into the search bar, I instantly get access to a long list of articles written on this subject.

As you can see, BuzzSumo also shows you how well each article has performed based on social shares so you can see which topics are clicking the most with readers.

Some other content aggregators and helpful resources I recommend include:

Quora

You may also want to create a spreadsheet of all relevant industry blogs that you can quickly reference when you need to brainstorm.

Content creation

This is without a doubt the more laborious part of the content marketing process.

You’ve got to actually sit down and consistently pound out quality content. Or do you?

While I definitely write a lot of the content myself, there’s just no way to keep up with the demand while juggling everything else that’s involved with running a business.

That’s why I recommend outsourcing at least part of it to freelance writers.

In fact, “64 percent of B2B marketers outsource writing.”

Some may only outsource a small fraction of it, while others outsource nearly everything.

It really just depends on your budget and content needs.

If content marketing is your go-to marketing strategy (or writing just isn’t your forte), you’ll probably want to outsource a significant portion of your content creation.

I’ve found outsourcing to freelance writers to be a positive thing, and many other brands feel the same way.

In fact, a big reason for the success of KISSmetrics was skilled writers we hired.

I even wrote an article on how KISSmetrics grew to 793,858 visitors a month by using this formula.

However, you don’t want to leave your content and brand reputation to just anyone.

You need to be sure you hire writers who are highly skilled, understand your brand/style/tone, and create quality content that resonates with your audience.

That’s why you need to make sure a writer has these six skills before you hire them.

Content curation

This term is defined as “the process of sorting through the vast amounts of content on the web and presenting it in a meaningful and organized way around a specific theme. The work involves sifting, sorting, arranging and publishing information.”

As you can tell, this sounds incredibly arduous. And it often is.

But it’s a staple of most content marketing campaigns.

Studies have even found that 95 percent of marketers share other organization’s content in some capacity.

The problem is it’s like panning for gold. You have to sift through all the dirt and debris just to find something of value that you can share with your audience.

If you’re just blindly curating content without some type of a game plan, it’s going to be a massive time-drain.

But the way I look at it, there are two main options to streamline this process:

Hire someone else to do it

Utilize a tool to make it quicker

The first choice is good because it can save time, but you lose a bit of control.

The second choice gives you maximum control and still saves time.

No matter what approach you choose, it’s still going to be much more efficient than manually sifting through piles of content just to find the diamond in the rough.
