So many people relate to different aspects of this fucked up sibilings trauma and at the end after everything they have managed to do and heal and work with each other and themselves , the final message we want to send out is “the problem was actually them all along so now it’s time to die”???

I finally had the heart (or a long plane ride) to watch The Umbrella Academy season 4 after being told by everyone I knew that the ending was awful and I have to say…

The ending wasn’t even close to the worst part for me!!!

What works in TUA formula is the characters all either do solo or paired up missions where they all find info and meetup in the end. This time, Klaus’ plot did nothing, not even for his character development. And Alison? Like her whole plot was just looking for Klaus???? Ray who?

Then don’t even get me started on the awful Lila and Five scenes. I had to skip through them. The beginning of the season where it was a gag “haha Diego thinks Lila is cheating on him with Fives” was great. There was no reason for them to do that to Diego.

That brings me to the victims of season 4: Diego and Luther. Let’s just make Diego suffer without any payoff. And Luther is a stripper who lost the love of his life who barely gets a mention. He also just lives in the abandoned academy!

Victor was (thankfully) given a solid plot line with closure from Reggie. And even the concept of this cleanse back to the original timeline was cool, in theory.

But Jennifer was not explained, who she was, how she got the Durango, how she was in a squid??? And the connection with Ben? Shouldn’t all the Hargreaves be drawn to her because of the marigold?

There were so many holes and the ending was the only thing that made sense. Which is surprising, because the ending barely made sense.

to me, the ending makes sense but doesn't at the same time. since s2 we kinda knew that the hargreeves were always going to cause the apocalypse. so them having to die to make that never ending cycle of apocalypse end? makes sense.

but them accepting that? so easily? makes no sense to me. yeah Five is tired of saving the world, but he loves his family more than anything (not that they remembered that about him while writing him this season anyway). Lila, Diego and Allison have kids and they just accept it? when they don't even know if those kids are going to survive??? (it makes no sense that they're still here at the end btw)

so yes, it's logical that it ended up here. but it makes no sense that they accepted it and did not fight. the whole point of the show is them fighting to be happy, so for them to just give up? what's the point of the show then?

She holds up an action figure of Reginald and crushes it in her bare hands. Marigold lights emerge from it. Golden light envelops everything

Hard cut to Klaus waking up in bed. He is wearing pajamas covered in marigolds.Street noise can be heard from outside.

(From offscreen) “You okay, Hon?”

Klaus looks over and Dave is cooking breakfast in their flat

Klaus: “Yeah, just had a weird dream.”

Looks out the window and sees an empty lot where the Hargreeves mansion should be.

Klaus: “Wasn’t there a building there?”

(Naïve Melody by the Talking Heads begins to play over a montage)

Diego and Lila Are wrangling their kids into the camper van. One of the kids gives Lila a picture of her family in a field of bunch of orange flowers (marigolds)

Luther is stripping and the obsessed lady in the crowd is Sloan. He has a marigold in his mouth. He takes it out and gives it to her.

Viktor is playing the violin with Harlon. Sissy is setting the table. She sets a bouquet of marigold into a center vase.

Allison is gardening while Clare and Ray play in the yard. She is planting Marigolds.

Five is teaching at some university. An older woman comes in. “Dolores” he says as she kisses him. He has a Marigold in the lapel of his suit jacket.

Jennifer serves Ben at the dinner. Closeup on her pouring coffee. He has a Durango flower tattoo that says “Jennifer” and she had a marigold tattoo that says “Ben”

Cut back to Klaus staring out the Window

Dave: No, been an empty lot as long as I can remember

Klaus, smiles: Yeah, I don’t know why I thought that

Camera Zooms out from the window as music continues

Reginald, voiceover: And that is how our unlikely heroes manage to create one timeline where everything was fine.

“i felt that five had to have a love story” okay steve !! fine. i’ll humour you. picture this : lila and five in the subway. they’re travelling to different timelines, loosing hope, trying to find a way home. then they get to a timeline and five sees dolores. but she’s a human, not a mannequin. he falls for her. loves her. wants to stay with her in her timeline. and that’s why lila has to force him to come home. she has kids, a husband, a life. five wants to stay with dolores more than anything. but he goes home, back to his timeline, because he knows he has to save his family. because he loves them more.

As I’m trying to come to terms with whatever the fuck that was, I’ve decided that:

Seasons 1 and 2 are peak. Absolute masterpieces. Canon.

Season 3 can be taken or left. Has its moments, but overall not as good as the first two. Canon, but only if you want it to be.

Season 4 is a fucking crack fic written at 2am that the author rereads at a later date and decides to delete. Absolutely not canon.
