Just watched Saw X in theatres and omg i have to rant. Spoilers under the cut! (ive never used the read more function hopefully this works)

I invited my friend to watch the movie with me and was so hyped to see it, but then at the theatre they asked for an ID which makes sense in retrospect cause its rated R bUT. MY FRIEND DOESN'T HAVE A LICENSE OR ANY FORM OF ID. So he couldn't see it and insisted I go alone. I did because. I'd been waiting so long and he was so insistent I go.

But that aside, the actual movie.

I think it might've just been my already anxious and stressed mindset but I felt very iffy about this movie. The best part was definitely the traps, because they were genuinely amazing. Gabrielas was so fucking good. I do feel like they deserved more time tho, because they were so close and used almost all their time effectively for people scared out of their mind.

As for the plot, I think my appreciation for John and Amanda's character development is definitely gonna come in eventually, but for now I'm just SO PISSED MARK WASN'T THERE. THAT FIC I WAS GONNA WRITE? GONE. Like John calling and asking for his help was so misleading, not to mention how misleading the trailer was. Why show two things from the fucking end credit scene??

Genuinely I thought Mark was going to come in when Amanda and John were in the trap but nope- I kept waiting and nothing 😭 I think thats what ruined the movie for me, is just how misleading everything was. But I'll probably come to appreciate it.

This is really weird for me because I never don't love a saw movie. Like, even the controversial ones. I loved 3 (albeit less than others), I loved 3D, I loved Jigsaw and Spiral, but this one is just... Eh? It'll probably grow on me tho

Anyway that's the rant thanks for your time. I still might write a saw fic tho (maybe a what if Mark *was* in Mexico with them)

I've once again had 6 hours to process everything I saw in season 4 so I'm just gonna say my thoughts on it (hold onto your fedoras again folks)

first off, WE FOUND OUT GRAY'S LAST NAME?? I was so shocked and happy at the same time I love how everyone asked for player's real name and we ended up with gray's surname for some reason shsjsj. NOBODY ASKED FOR THAT BUT THEY DELIVERED ANYWAY

gray's ending was... kinda weird I understood the parallel of him not wanting to complicate carmen's life like she said about him in season 2 but it was still kinda strange that they didn't have one more conversation or get any closure

I'm obviously kinda upset that carulia wasn't canon they had so much potential imo and the show isn't about romance anyway BUT I'm happy with the content we got and THEY FLIRTED SO MUCH THEY'RE CANON IN MY HEART

wishing carmen and jules could have hugged or had a scene together where they talked about stockholm but I won't complain it wouldn't have really made sense anyway considering they were cool with each other at the university

so glad the trailer was misleading about the coach brunt situation I really didn't want her to get a last minute redemption

another honorable mention: cleo snapping at julia "DON'T YOU DARE IMPLY THAT I AM COMMON" sent me djdjs she was just stood there like "I am but a humble history lesbian leave me be"

The Responder- What we know so far

Yes, I am REALLY excited about this show. I can’t wait to see it and January still seems SO. FAR. AWAY. (or even worse: ‘spring’ as a possible release date which I saw being thrown around on Twitter, but Martin said January and I want to believe him. lol)

Anyway, the official(?) synopsis tells us that Chris (Martin Freeman) is “a crisis-stricken, morally compromised, unconventional urgent response officer tackling a series of night shifts on the beat in Liverpool. Whilst trying to keep his head above water both personally and professionally, Chris is forced to take on a new rookie partner Rachel (Adelayo Adedayo). Both soon discover that survival in this high pressure, relentless, night-time world will depend on them either helping or destroying each other. “

With the trailer being released now we can speculate a bit more about Chris as a character and a possible plot.

We know that trailers can be misleading sometimes, so all of this is highly speculative on my part.

Chris seems to take 2 different types of medication. I tried to make out what kind of medication they are, but I couldn’t figure it out. My best guess would be some sort of antidepressant or anti- anxiety meds. Or just caffeine pills to stay awake during the nights, who knows.

Chris has a family: a wife (?) and a daughter. They seem happy here, but appearances are deceptive. More about that later.

Being a police officer has taken a toll on Chris. Too much violence, too much death, too much corruption. And who knows what else.

Rachel: “Look at the state of him. He’s a mess.” Chris: “The job has ruined me.”

He also seems to be in therapy (maybe), talking about how he wants to be “a good bobby” and “normal”.

Chris is/ was involved with some bad people, one of them being ‘Carl Sweeney’ (that’s what the girl calls him) who may have have done  some favors for Chris in the past. (”After all I’ve done for you? You don’t have a choice!”) He now asks Chris to pick someone up, a girl named Casey. Chris really doesn’t want to, but he picks her up anyway because he does not want to piss off the bad guys.

Casey: “You’re working for Carl Sweeney, aren’t ya?” Chris: “Why is he so angry with you?” Casey: “ ‘Cos I robbed his cocaine.” Chris: “You what?”

Chris realises that delivering Casey to Carl will be a possible death sentence for her, because she stole some cocaine from him. He decides to help her and pisses off the bad guys in the process. Oh oh.

Carl: “You are dead, lad!”

Chris and his new rookie partner Rachel don’t get along very well.

Rachel: “You’re a car crash of a human being.”

Their relationship might change during the run of the series, even tho the trailer doesn’t indicate it at all. That’s just me speculating.

Things aren’t going too well between Chris and his wife, either.

Wife: “I thought I could help you, but you won’t let me in.”

So yea, more trouble ahead for poor Chris for whom I will be rooting, no matter what, I know that much already. xD

Will Elita die in WFC Kingdom?

Though the cliffhanger of Earthrise and trailer for Kingdom kind of give me hope, actually? You don’t know if she’s alive or not by the end of Earthrise, and the trailer has this afterlife vibe to her - so if she does die, that would kind of be a spoiler right there. So I’m hoping the trailer is just trying to mislead us on purpose. Somebody mentioned she might be using her time-stopping powers which almost (i repeat: ALMOST) killed her in G1, which I think would be really cool, especially if we get to see Optimus have to break out the jumper cables again lol.

Edit: Yup they killed her off 😭 But at least she died with her team which made it less explicitly a "fridging" (I couldn't believe they got rid of Jetfire too as he's a fan favourite). WFC is far from my favourite TF show (honestly I had more fun even with RID15's first season lol), so the Elita 1 version that came out of WFC is the best thing about the show as far as I'm concerned. I hope we'll see a similar iteration of her in the future (tho I won't hold my breath lol), but at least I got a great new female Autobot to play with in fanon.

Ah yes, another show, another speculation on whether a female character will die for the man-pain. I really wish this trope wasn’t so wide-spread that we need to keep thinking about it constantly, but here we are. What I can say, is that I hope Elita-1 doesn’t die. She’s been the most prominent and central female character - and effectively the main character for the post-season1-cybertron storyline - so killing her off would really feel like she was only brought back from the G1 backseat and built up just so we could have a main character that can die but is not in the main nostalgia-bait clique. What a waste of a great character.

Anyway, TF shows don’t have a great track record when it comes to writing female characters (there are exceptions, but not many), so I really hope Elita gets to stay a good example. And on a more cynical note, given the flack Netflix got for killing off Allura in Voltron for no other reason than “iT’s So DeEp YoU gUyS”, I hope they don’t make the same mistake again.

P.S. Dear mutuals, feel free to send a message spoiling if Elita or Optimus die in WFC Kingdom, I am seriously not gonna watch it before I find out 😁

my stranger things 4 volume 2 theories (?) that no one asked for -

• enzo dies to get murray, hopper, and joyce out. murray might die too? (i don’t want him to but anything can happen). the scene in the trailer w hopper being attacked by a demo dog he’s looking sideways and i think he might be witnessing enzo’s death

• out of the teenage group i think eddie is the most likely to die which breaks my heart, but idk what it is i just have a lil feeling. i’m worried for steve tho. i think nancy makes it out based on some of the trailer footage and i think robin saying “i don’t think it’ll work out for us this time” is misleading but idk man

• will has GOT to be connected to eleven & the upside down somehow. how does he know about vecna when he’s talking to mike???? that’s the part i’m super interested in. so many questions about will’s part in this. why was he targeted in the first place? how did he survive in the upside down so long? why the visions? i think he has something to do. powers maybe? unlikely but could be possible.

• also what is eight’s deal. did she escape the lab before we see eleven’s memories?? i hope we get to see her again. how did eleven run into her in chicago? why wasn’t she in any of the memories? my memory is v shaky on s2 to be fair so i might not be remembering something. as far as we know they are the only two still around from the lab. eight might have something to do??? like help eleven out? idk man

• i don’t think they defeat vecna at the end of the season. i think it’ll continue into next season, and then the rest of it will be dealing w trying to completely get rid of the upside down??? if vecna does die at the end of this season what’s the play for next season? they bring in ANOTHER new monster and expect them to defeat it within the season? i should rewatch at least the end of s3 but did the mind flayer actually die??? that would be the only thing i could see coming back next season if dustin is right about the mind flayer being the overall big bad.

Im curious as to why you hate Makoto for ripping of p3pfemc's looks but consent to Royal-chan for the same thing? ( I know you hate Makoto for a lot of other reasons, like her personality and such, but it seemed like you disliked her since prereveal/release?) If Royal chan ended up being a completely unrelated character to femc, will your opinion of her change ? (no hate really, i jst wanna know. \V/m )

It's no prob! In all honesty I didn't even think about this kind of question, but the answer came right away, so I guess time for a not so deep reflection.

So like full stop, if Poniko isn't connected to the FeMC and it's just Atlus messing with me, yeah I'mma be PISSED. Will I rip on her looks like no tomorrow? Maybe, depends on how it’s handled (like how bad they burn me, and even then I might wait for a spinoff cause they might go into the connection there rather than Royal). I think it's obvious I went harder on Makoto because I don't like her for other reasons, and so any small thing about her annoys me (tbh Yusuke's design annoys me too, but not as bad cause....I kinda just don’t care about him and who he’s copying as much, but I'll get to that in a bit)

Anyway I think we need some historical context, because I think it’s important. When Makoto (and Yusuke) where first shown......FeMC had been ignored for A LONG time. We had a non-canon play (which no one really talked about), and that was it. No game related stuff, not even featured in the game where people were getting ripped out of timelines. FeMC were BURNED. I’ll be honest, when Yusuke appeared......While the parallels between P2 were obvious (not just with him) he reminded me of Minato as well. It annoyed me we had to have the token blue hair character since the rule had been made since the P3 era (kinda enforced with some black haired characters from P1/2, combining P2 games together that is, if you want to include them), Atlus said they’d be trying new things..... but like....whateves. But my association with him as Minato increased....when Makoto came along. 

Ngl I wasn’t pleased with the reveal of the last three girls (even didn’t like Haru, for ironically now what I love as an alt rewrite for her as, as I thought she’d be a mean and person full of herself due to calling herself ‘beauty thief’....Yeah all types of crazy here, I do love sweet Haru tho. And the reason for my opinion changing on the alt non-canon personality rewrite is just I.....see the appeal in it for the group dynamic now, while at the time I was afraid of disliking any of the characters or having them be disliked by the fandom.....which big laugh now haha :’D .....I want my happy P5 self back ;w;). Anyway back to the three girls, ngl one of the reasons I wasn’t happy was how they just dumped 3 more characters on us (too big a cast so can they handle it?, silly has to do more VA videos, I want the smaller cast back oh god don’t screw this up, and so on and so on). As for the characters, while Haru’s appearance in the trailer mislead me on her personality (for whatever reason)..... I just.....there was something about Futaba and Makoto I didn’t like. Futaba just rubs me all the wrong ways for reasons I can’t describe for back then (maybe the fact she looked like she’d be a troll and she kinda is), but Makoto it was clear...... She was ripping off FeMC’s look. The brown hair and red eyes.....the fact that Yusuke looked like Minato.....it felt like they were trying to draw them as expies of the P3MCs. And it pissed me off. I didn’t want an unrelated character look and remind me of the FeMC, I wanted FeMC herself! Why are you stealing her look????? And while some FeMC saw this and rolled with it as a joke (Hamu/Minty/Shin dressing up as Makoto/Yusuke/Goro to get into P5), other’s didn’t know who the FeMC was and thus.....didn’t see the blatant expy/rip off design. Seeing people be like “her character design is so original and cute and blah blah blah”.....it annoyed me....obviously (it didn’t help she grew in popularity doing absolutely nothing too, so initially it was all about her looks, and then I’ve been told a lot of her fans, at least male, has been mostly them saying the like her design and her hair and her eyes, and no everyone who likes Makoto is an FeMC fan so....yeah.....I mostly hear how it’s just about her design so I’m very focused on that in regards to her specifically BECAUSE of the fans). And yeah I know it was a bit petty/shallow reason, but I didn’t outright hate her atm, she was stepping on my toes badly but I was holding out till the game (where it finally cemented my hate for her, and now I legit hate her for petty, shallow, deep, and complex reasons). And lordy lord lord, it did not help Makoto’s name was Makoto, because that was a name some FeMC fans gave Hamuko (cause Makoto Yuki was the closest ‘canon’ name we’d get to P3MCs, and some people adopted it for both MCs cause it was gender neutral, so Niijima coming along and taking THAT away sucked ass, and I know different kanji, it still sucked tho). It just....felt like Atlus was spitting in FeMC fan’s face..... But anyway, I kept it in....for about....2ish years. Even when I was trying to stay positive.......and even when I was slowly starting to come out with negative opinions. I tried to keep it in. 

Finally I decided to make it framed as a joke, because I started to see Makoto ripping off more characters than just FeMC (FeMC, Aika, and Naoto in the detective novel to be precise, but what got the ball rolling was realizing that it was Aika who Makoto ripped the hair and motor vehicle from with the FeMC’s color scheme). That’s where my brain started going other places than just being restricted to FeMC, and I started being more critical of Makoto’s design outside the FeMC (tho that still burned me). Because, imo, it’s not original, it annoyed me people would say she was original when she was really just a Frankenstein rip off of other characters (other loved characters, FeMC and Aika were pretty popular in their own right). It only continued to cement in my mind that....anything ‘original’ about Makoto was a farce, she just copies while the original gets left behind.

Tldr; FeMC had been snubbed for years, along comes two design expies that remind you of P3MCs (3 if you wanna include Goro/Ken but Goro looks different enough imo), Makoto is named Makoto (a name some used for FeMC), and Makoto is praised for her design for being original and blah blah blah when it’s not (for multiple reasons besides the FeMC, kinda more the fans reactions fault but I was already having design issues so it just bugged me more when they’d say these things). So yeah it felt like Makoto stole aspects of the FeMC, and it’s not like FeMC has a lot for herself, which really just stepped on my toes. Combined that with legit hating the character when I finally get to see her in action (and it’s because of her actions and writing that I hate-hate the character, but prior to that it was just her stepping on my toes while trying to keep an open mind into liking her), the stuff said before gets amplified more than before.

But months later, after the first post of me ripping on Makoto for taking FeMC and Aika’s design (tho my later posts were in drafts I just didn’t post them till later), something amazing happened on Aug 4th. FeMC finally came back to us. And holy shit obviously I was happy, but it doesn’t dismiss the fact I was aware of how much of design rip off/expy Makoto was, and it wasn’t just FeMC anymore. But gdi if the fact that the FeMC wasn’t being ignored anymore didn’t change the outlook for me as an FeMC fan. FeMC was back, she’s loved, care was put into her character in PQ2, just.....skdfalf;a so happy ;w; But also so hopeful, she was acknowledged again, she had been cut from the 20th anniversary event in official art, and that hurt us, but now she’s back back. And she was a main character in PQ2.....which leads to you questioning, what next? 

Which brings us to Poniko, the one post hopeful outlook. Obviously she’s not starting in the same place as Makoto. Poniko has been revealed post-PQ2 FeMC....which means Atlus isn’t ignoring Hamuko (in fact a lot of the creators were stating they WANTED her back), we know the creators do love Hamuko. There’s also the fact.....Poniko looks less like an expy like Makoto (who imo looks like Soejima trying to emulate Kaneko’s art style, esp the eye shape, same with Yusuke too). Poniko? It goes beyond ripping off a design, she looks like she’s almost fully lifted from Hamuko, it just looks like Hamuko wearing a different outfit. Just straight up copy and paste. And would I have been pissed if she was revealed alongside Makoto? Maybe, or I might be theorizing that she is Hamuko herself like now (tho I think it’d get more push back due to Hamu being in Atlus’ basement for so long so it just being claimed as delusional and unlikely), or both (and then pissed when it’s revealed it’s not Hamuko). It’s just....she looks SO MUCH like Hamuko it can’t be a coincidence, and after PQ2 it feels less like one as well. Just.....the posture, the cinematic parallels, the hair color, the eye color, the eye shape, the eyelashes, the face structure, the way she stands.....Poniko just screams “I AM Hamuko” not “I just look like her because.” And it helps that other people in the fandom also see this too, some are hoping she’s a new person, but it seems people at least acknowledge that very obvious similarities between Hamuko and Poniko (while that didn’t really happen with P5 with Hamuko/Makoto). 

And....tbh I feel like I might sound like I’m splitting hairs (at least with the words I’m using). And it might sound weird that I think Makoto ripped off enough Hamuko it pissed me off, but Poniko just.....is a copy and paste of Hamuko, just straight up Hamuko in a different outfit and hairstyle but it doesn’t. But it’s the historical context I think that sheds that light. And the fact Poniko might just BE Hamuko, and so it’d make sense if that was the case for them to look like each other (while it doesn’t make sense for Makoto to look like Poniko). 

I guess it also helps that I personally had the headcanon Hamuko and Minato weren’t related (just strangers on the bridge in two separate cars), and they both survived the bridge accident but one became the leader of SEES and the other went on to live and do their own thing (until maybe a spinoff game pulls them back in). And while I.....well recalling it now I considered a reincarnation once in a hc scenario (opted for time travel forward cause that makes sense 8U I won’t go into it I had my reasons 8U), but looking at the 1st year symbol on Poniko (and reincarnation in other MegaTen works, I mean c’mon reincarnation is in the title) it feels plausible. And it works for Poniko because of the time the incident and the time to be reincarnated takes place (1999 being the accident and April 1 2000-April 2 2001 being the time frame she was born), which wouldn’t ever work for Makoto because she was born in 1998 (so even if I HAD considered Makoto it wouldn’t have worked, esp since they never tell us she jumped grades, it’s not possible....and while I’m all for hc and grey areas, this is something that WOULD be explicitly told because it’s not common in Japan and Atlus has been explicit about characters not in the ‘right’ grades before, just an fyi there 8U). 

I dunno I feel like there’s distinct clear reasons that I can fit them into separate categories. And yeah if Poniko isn’t Hamuko I’mma be burned too, BUT I’mma wait till a spinoff post-Royal before I get pissy.....cause I don’t expect clear answers to other past games in another game’s mainline entry (I only expect shallow shoutouts tbh). So yeah, just so you know where the deadline for my expectations are.

• some flaws

- the inconsistency of art/kong’s relationship was at times jarring. like, i can definitely buy how arthit expresses his care for kongphob in different ways, and that his stubbornness is just to tease, but i felt that some instances of his resistance felt like a bit of a reach. but overall, i think they’re characterizing arthit as someone who is very in his own head and needs space when his brain is going a mile a minute, so the distancing of himself is valid though frustrating

- this is just a tiny thing, the promos for s2 were very misleading in the way that they presented conflict. thankfully, this means that pretty much all conflicts were resolved reasonably and within the episode they were introduced in, as opposed to being convoluted and dragged out like the trailers suggested. thank god it was jus false advertising lol

- i wish we saw a little bit more of the og cast in the second half of s2, especially tew’s storyline and prae and maprang!! but the heart of the story was based at ocean electric then and it worked well. thank Lord for prae’s gf tho.

• what i liked

- the sotus s special scenes were everything. like they gave so much context to artkong’s relationship over the years and were the natural anchor to their story. their portrayal in these short clips felt a little more in character than the main storyline at times

- daytew’s scenes, though few and far between at the end, were just everything. they showed a natural progression of closeness that we didn’t even have to question. both characters came to understand each other and put down their pride, and getting glimpses of their bonding over time was touching. although i would have liked to see more of them, i thought they handled the development well. and thank god they were actually dating :) fuc k gay baiting thanks

- p’earth is everything. sotus is a gem for being one of the very few primarily bl-focused dramas that has strong female characters! earth was the light of my life thx. i rlly appreciated that though they were kinda implied at the end, her decision to reject tod was respected by him and there wasn’t any determination to change her mind, though they remained close. love her.

- the world feels more real. no idea how to explain, but it has a sense of authenticity that sotus s1 seemed to lack. maybe it’s the multiple locations, maybe it’s the diversity and complexity of characters idk

- key lines and character choices. communication was so emphasized here in dialogue between characters and i appreciate that. especially kong’s straightforward “don’t worry, i won’t cheat on you” line. lmao they coulda took a cheap shot for drama on the many admirers kong has but they shot it down so fast!! thanks. also arthit saying “if i say it too often, you might not believe me. saying or not, i love you anyway.” basically explains his entire character arc throughout the series. it’s just how arthit is, teasing and showing he cares (numerous times btw) without explicitly saying it all the time. also the “you might not believe me,” is a good insight in the insecurity arthit had in believing kong’s overt affections. also body language, just the way characters interacted. everything

• what i wish!

so ik it’s not super likely that sotus will return for a s3, but i can’t help but wonder about some things, like everything going on in the hazer girls’ lives, and artkong’s long-distance, and the whole arthit’s father in law thing (the “are you ready for our future” bc obviously in this universe of dramas this couple is finna get married). i would love to see more of day too, as the fact that he was danai’s son seems like a setup for something but idk could b an easter egg. tbh i feel satisfied enough with the conclusion of this season and lowkey fear what the conflicts of a future drama would b that i don’t really want an s3, but it would be nice to get a miniseries or something to fill in the blanks. all in all, i liked sotus s despite it’s questionable writing and just (!!?)!!) whatever the hell is up w arthit and the rest of the gang acting like they didnt have any chance to mature over the past 2 yrs lmao (a trend w sotus tbh) and i’m glad i finished it. ahh, to the support of constantly improving mlm and wlw representation! let’s always move for positive progress :)

lmao okay so i read simon vs the homosapian agender years ago and was... underwhelmed. like, there was some plot stuff i didnt care for, but mostly i didnt think the prose was written well. that said, it was years ago. i might feel differently if i re-read it, who knows, i barely remember what happens in it now. anyway.

what i REALLY dont get tho is how this film, which is a cheesy teen comedy, is getting more shit for being “problematic” when everyone basically let call me by your name, you know, the one that romanticizes pedophelia, go by unchallenged. even when it won oscars & shit.

this is an important film, because it is what determines how and whether gay films are targeted at children/teens, and what kind of budgets they get for the next few years, if not the next decade.

if you don’t understand the difference: every gay film you’ve seen, even as a teen, Was Not Targeted At You. they were indie, adult, etc. they were probably dark. if they werent, they CERTAINLY were not mainstream (films like moonlight or brokeback mountain were not expected to be as acclaimed as they were, & they were definitely not box office breakers). or they were garbage (fuckin GBF). they did not get advertiserd on billboards. the did not have big studio budgets. and personally, this is the first time i wont have to drive an hour to go to an independent cinema to see a queer film, like i did for moonlight and countless others.

and i get it! there are better books to adapt! books you prefer! books written by queer authors! and they deserve movies too! but you know what? They Will Not Get Them If This Movie Flops.

plus, for all those ppl like me who are desperate for gay ppl in films not About their sexuality, the film/book industry treats YA as a genre, not a demographic. so. this is actually a huge step towards getting the blockbuster astronaut/pirate/wizard gays you want.

also, ive seen the film being accused of being a “white gay” thing before anyones even seen it. i cant really argue one way or another on its supposed racism, im white, im not american, its not my decision. however: the main mystery of the plot is who Blue actually is, and im super grateful that the advertising hasnt undercut the film by giving it away (im looking at you, MJ in spiderman: homecoming). but he’s not white. and id also just in general suggest watching a film BEFORE u decided its ideologies. trailers can be misleading, sometimes intentionally.

plus from watching the trailer, the plot i disliked from the book seems to have been minimised or taken out of this film entirely so. theres that too.

....anyway, it could totally end up to be a “problematic” movie anyway, or just crap, but can we at least not jump the gun on it???
