listen. listen. they had character development in different directions. Odysseus learned to be the monster and avoid risk by being ruthless to enemies and his own crew, while Eurylochus gained some trust in their ability to win against impossible odds (he wanted to fight Scylla instead of sacrificing people to her) and he spares Odysseus and bandages him after mutinying. which end up costing him everything. i'm gonna be sick

I am convinced that Ody was hallucinating Penelope in Thunder Bringer. his wife was not there. no one was trying to trick him. she did not reach out from across the sea. he just needed to hear her say that she'd still love him after he chose. he needed her permission.

Scylla in the myths: Pretty lady in a tall rock spire with her dog heads dangling from there to snatch sailors.
Scylla in Epic, at least how it came across to me: A stealthy predator swimming in the dark waters, hearing the prey make sounds, but unable to hear her until she wants them to with a smile before devouring them.

Random realization when listening to Scylla
I've heard that in the original Oddysey, Polites is supposed to die under Scylla.
In the EPIC lore, Eurylochus was assigned death by Oddyseus because he opened the bag. This is concluded by how Oddy asked Eury to light up the torches, thus making him a visible target.
Joining the two dots together: If Polites survived Polyphemus, would that mean that Polites would be the one who opened the bag in Eury's place?

i was the first to defend Eurylochus and say it wasn't him who opened the bag but now i can't even be mad that i was wrong. he probably had his reasons. he's not that stupid. i am making apologist headcanons as we speak. the winions might have told him a different lie and made him believe keeping the bag closed is more dangerous than opening it

The danger motif in the harmonies when Odysseus first wakes up on the beach in Mutiny. They were screwed well before the cow was slaughtered.

"she's my everything, my Penelope"
I feel stupid for not seeing it earlier
"who do you live for?" "Penelope." "what do you try for?" "Telemachus"
Odysseus lies about everything, all the time
"deep down I would trade the world to see my son and wife"
but he never lied about this
"I have to see her" "but we'll die" "I know"

So now that the thunder saga is out we can reflect on the foreshadowing Tiresias shared in No Longer You
"I see a song of past romance (siren song) I see the sacrifice of men (scylla), I see portrayals of betrayal and a brother’s final stand (mutiny). I see you on the brink of death (the end of Thunderbringer), I see you draw your final breath, I see a man who gets to make it home alive. But it's no longer you."
Jorge also revealed part of the chorus at the end of No Longer You: “siren song, Scylla throat, mutiny, lightning bolt” The rest also contains spoilers so he hasn’t revealed that yet!
