i think the biggest appeal of kaebedo to me is the parallels between them. both are from khaenri'ah and were abandoned by a parent figure with an unclear mission on their shoulders and ended up finding a home in a place they fear they will have to betray one day. even without a romantic lens there is SO much potential here!!! they must know of each other's secret to some degree, there's no way they don't. they could form such a deep connection based on these shared origins. let them bond hoyoverse!!!!

its insane to me that kaeya and albedo have never exchanged more than five words in game when theres so much material to work with here.. especially because they DO know each other! the game tells us that! kaeya has an "about albedo" voiceline (Albedo, eh? Calm, collected, and incredibly talented. He's the type everybody likes, some even more so than others. What, you into him as well?), albedo doesnt have an "about kaeya" voiceline but he does mention him in one of his "more about albedo" ones (The time required to sketch portraits closely correlates with one's mood. I could spend half a day sketching Huffman, while I might only need three strokes of the pencil to sketch Kaeya — one for the face, one for the eyepatch string... and one for the eyepatch.) and, actually, pairing that with this

from a past event i think we can say it's implied that albedo draws kaeya fairly often. kaeya seems to babysit klee frequently, which is all the more chance for them to get to know each other more..... they live in the same region and have so many themes in common LET THEM TALK! LET THEM TALK!! kaebedo as a ship is kind of built from the ground up with just minimal canon content and our wild imaginations but hey. the potential is right there. also i think they look cute together. anyway, fanfic recs, you say? i have some<3

Albedo comes knocking at Kaeya's office door, and asks Kaeya to kill him. All in all, it's the worst falling-in-love experience that Kaeya has ever had. (Albedo fears a lot of things. He's never reached out for help with any of them, but he's also never had anyone see him and reach out first.)

this is genuinely one of the best fics ive ever read in my life it's SO good. i kept rotating it inside my mind for days afterwards. and the kaebedo dynamic here is one of my favorite renditions of it too!!!!! like they cannot live through a normal love story it has to be weird when they are both involved. and this fic executes the brand of weirdness i expect from kaebedo perfectly. the characterization for both of them was really good. warning for some body horror but if you're okay with that it's part of the charm in this fic i really enjoyed reading those parts

i just reread this while searching through recs on my bookmarks and!!!!!!!!! this is THE kaebedo relationship study EVER. it's so good. its more focused on kaeya since it's from his point of view but albedo is a central crucial part of it. it explores their connection to khaenri'ah and the connection they could have with each other because of it SO well it's really amazing! the angst is delightful i love this one.

and you should check out this author's other works!! seriously the way they write kaebedo is like the best ever. i havent read all of them but the ones i have read were immediate favorites. untunedviola if youre out there

a lighter, fluffier work to make up for the angst of the previous recs. so sweet youll get cavities honestly. works to read while giggling about how much you love these silly little characters. bonus ragbros and other mond characters. really nice read!!!!

i wish i had more recs but i really dont. i need to read more about them honestly.

Weekend Update 04/07/2024

Nerdie! You haven't done one of these since the middle of March!

Yes 👀 I took some time off of work and was out of the country on a boat. A cruise to be exact. The locations were tropical and fun. the sea days (the time you spend on the ship in between each stop) were not. Personally, I wouldn't go on the cruise line again. I prefer more activities, music and a more lively environment. Overall the trip was wonderful, just those sea days. Ugh, silver lining though, so much writing. 🤣

Q: How in the world do you have so many ideas?

A: I truly don’t know. I can only say that I live in my head a lot so to speak so imagining what I would like to say, think or do is a lot easier than actually doing it. Then I just write it. Also I enjoy making myself and others laugh so the more insane a scenario is, the more likely it is to make it into a fic somehow.

Q: How do you write so much?

A: I stick my ideas in notes. Sometimes bullet point, sometimes just start writing. Usually if I use these focus things you can use in discord called “Sprints” I can channel the idea onto a page. It’s not always the same idea I had in mind, but usually it’s pretty good. Then I actually finish things to a good soundtrack or playlist. There is also tea involved.

Q: Which idea is next Nerdie?

A: Marcus Pike in therapy for an incident involving a gun and Mr. And Mrs. Hot Dog Water (if you know, you know.) Dieter as your sperm donor except he said “bun making appointments” because he has his reasons he doesn’t feel like telling you until the bun is in that oven and Ezra or Javi P in an AU as a sex worker because…again reasons 👀 It could be any of these or that Din and fairy warrior idea I had. 🤣 All of these are…very me. lol 😂

2021 Year-End Fic Review

How many stories did you complete?

Three. Ring of Fire, Half-Life, and The Golden Knight. Definitely better than 2020 where I’m pretty sure I only finished 1. 

What is your total word count for the year?

I totaled up the count for the chapters I published this year on AO3 in my various ongoing and completed stories and came out to 82123. That’s rather more than I feel like I wrote.

That’s not counting the zombie chapters I posted here on Tumblr only.

What fandoms did you write in this year?

Only ASOIAF. I watch, read, and enjoy many things, but I only do one fandom at a time. 

(I do poke around in The Locked Tomb fandom, but I’ve stayed out of fic for now.)

Did you write more, less, or roughly about what you expected?

Always less than I would like. Although looking back at that word count I was more productive than I thought I was. 

What’s your own favourite story of the year?

I was proud of Ring of Fire. Some quibbles here and there, I’d like to take a hatchet to that last chapter, but it did what I wanted it to do. I set out to write a story I had never seen before in J/B fic and I think I did that - started off in a different place, created several unique plot points, and had an ending for J/B that I’m pretty sure no one else had used yet at the time.

What is your most underappreciated story of the year?

Also Ring of Fire. Statistics-wise it had less hits, less kudos, less comments, and I’ve never seen it recced anywhere. Honestly my productivity hit a brick wall at full speed when I finished that story and had less engagement than I did before. But that’s nobody’s fault but mine, I’m easily discouraged.

Biggest fanfic-related disappointment of 2021

We need a ASOIAF announcement to get the fandom excited and engaged again. Any announcement. Even if it’s bad. It’s the limbo that’s killing us.

Biggest fanfic-related surprise of 2021?

SeeThemFlying has a lovely series going based on one of my prompts from the fic exchange, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to read and couldn’t bring myself to write. I’m so grateful. 

Something you’re looking forward to working on in 2022?

Getting to the end of each of my ongoing fics. I have some passages I am very excited about for A Simple Twist of Fate, and A Man For All Seasons. The plotting’s all done. I just have to get myself in order and stitch the last chapters together. I’ll feel a lot better with all the ongoings finished.

I also will transplant the modern zombie fic to AO3. I posted two chapters here and then quickly decided it was stupid and a waste of time, because I have issues. But I do have a lot more done (like, a lot) and when I talk myself into it I’ll get it all up on AO3, because even if I feel weird about it I can’t just throw away a story. It’s still my baby. My ugly, stupid baby.

Also I have NOT forgotten about the prompts people sent me, which inspired The Golden Knight last year, and have also inspired a quickly-flying-out-of-my-control Lady Stoneheart Groundhog Day fic and a few other fills that I can’t even describe without spoiling. They will all emerge at some point. 

In short: I am still writing, though in fits and starts right now due to lack of confidence. But now that I’m getting my stupid frozen shoulder treated I can type again, and my job has finally become much more manageable, so I fully expect to be much more productive in 2022.

zoe m (assuming it’s her and not wtf’s zoe lol):

- zoe is THE postergirl for “pretending you’re famous in the shower and being interviewed”, which is cool, we all do it, except zoe doesn’t limit herself to the shower, nor is she silent. many times ava has come home to find zoe in the kitchen telling an invisible oprah a highly exaggerated version of her life: something about kieu my once being SO lovesick zoe thought she had a fever and had to carry her to the hospital, bridal-style, and also there were zombies. it’s an easy way to make nora laugh too, but on her worst days, zoe will hold her and when she’s calm, give an “off the record interview” where she details why she loves her sister, the strongest person she knows

- she writes fan-fiction. it used to be self-insert type stuff, you know, “my mom sold me to one direction” and the like, but actually...really really good? she had a solid wattpad fan-base for a reason. nora used to make her story covers on photoshop. she sticks to ao3 now, posting devastatingly gorgeous 30k pieces once every six months or so that garner their own mini fandoms. i’m not going to say what medias she’s writing for, but i’m not ruling out a certain cursed never-ending CW show, nor something completely different and wild like....RPF about the buzzfeed unsolved guys or whatever. or maybe less famous, very niche buzzfeed people which makes it better/worse (she gets her own ‘10 Lines In This Fanfic About Our Employees That Will Make You Cry Into A Pillow And Demand We Start A Union’ article)

- when the instas went on their social media detox / camping retreat / whatever the fuck it was, zoe enjoyed herself more than she thought she would. they were there to help constantin, yes, but it was healing for her, too. she, kieu my, and finn shared a tent, and on the last night, she stayed awake far longer than she should’ve, listening to their breathing, listening to the trees. if she concentrated hard enough, she could make everything fade away until she felt, for a strange, single moment, that she was the only person in the entire world. it was honestly comforting, all that peace and quiet and numbness, and yet, when asked about her exhaustion the next day, she says she stayed up on guard to protect them from any bears or serial killers; ismail immediately pretends to stab finn (“i was the killer all along!”), and amidst all the ensuing dramatic chaos, zoe thinks: i am very glad to not be alone. i am very glad to be alive.

sékou:

- with an older brother and two older sisters, sékou���s the ‘baby’ of the family but they don’t baby or other him at all. they’re all close, despite the miles between them: his parents came with him to canada, though his dad, a doctor (and his son’s biggest defender, especially when it came to getting diagnosed within an ableist, racist healthcare system) had to stay in paris a little longer to sort out work stuff with the pandemic, meaning he and his mom spent the first few months alone - “but not lonely!” she says every morning over breakfast; she doesn’t mind cooking it because she loves him and he helps with dinner anyways, as that’s how he unwinds after school. dealing with numbers in recipes helps him stay sharp whilst allowing him to relax and have fun

- other unwinding techniques include IT-related commissions, video editing, art history, philosophy, and, of course, urbex. since it’s canon that la mif are too depressed to urbex now that he’s gone, i’ll say it’s the opposite for him. he does urbex in canada, and it’s nice to finally be with people who follow maps and put safety first and are rather clinical - though not necessarily boring - about their approach. he becomes the president of his uni’s urbex club, the quickest anyone’s ever risen through the ranks. still, sometimes down in those tunnels it’s dark enough that it’s easy to pretend he’s back in paris, the indecipherable shapes around him his old friends. he tags their initials on a wall, and never tells them, his own little secret

- determined to not fall out of touch to an irreparable degree though, sékou sends la mif letters/packages, often very personalized: it starts with, like, memes for jo, film recs for max, political articles for maya, positive affirmations for lola etc, before becoming an international small gifts exchange because everyone involved is extra. noticing two new guys on the group insta, sekou thinks it’d be rude to exclude them, figuring there’s no harm in sending a tiny boxing glove keychain he saw at the store the other day, or some sewing tips his eldest sister, a fashion designer, passes along. bc skamfr is often an unintentional comedy (eg: the car), everybody in la mif assumes they’re the only one getting sent stuff bc nobody talks about it out of guilt (“what if he’s not sending them things...”). so it’s quite a shock when sékou flies back home for summer and he and redouane are like, immediately going in for a hug, the first to do so, and bilal presents sékou with a homemade bowtie. max is very pouty about it but max is pouty about most things so jo elbows him in the ribs and they all hash it out at maya’s that night; sékou takes one look at the place and thinks: i’m glad your taste in decor is better than your wardrobe, and then thinks: i’m not sure where i want to live, there are so many things i want to do and discover and become, but there’s no where else i’d rather call home right now (is he talking about the city or his friends?? you decide!)

personal struggles, the fate of this and other blogs and apologies.

This year so far has been strange and not good for me and this blog. Some of you know my long history with hate in this fandom and while it’s always nice to hear your kind words, the hate I get is every day worse to the point I had to take off the anonymous option on this blog, my personal, the Library, the writing events and even the damn porn blog.

A few months ago I said I was gonna delete all blogs, and as promised I also deleted my twitter account, passed the instagram account to someone else (who hasn’t done anything with it yet), deleted other b*zzf*ed related blogs I ran, and left others I helped in.

I answered to every and all asks on this blog and the porn blog (most asks now on queue or drafts, waiting to be posted slowly to not spam), finished the event that didn’t went as good as it seemed and passed the administration of the Library to my personal account to never left it die down.

During this time, something happened in my personal life and I found myself in a very dark place I never thought I would go back to after it happened to me many years ago. But it did, and I had to dealt with it all over again, but this time there was a difference, this time I knew were to start and it helped me because I was able to ask for what I needed and get help.

I’m on meds again. I’m not proud of it and it... makes me angry that I’m ashamed to admit it. I’m making less money, lost a person, stopped writing, entered a rehab therapy for two weeks for depression (I didn’t tell anyone but my family, which won me a very long fight with my best friend and two of my best friends online), ended in the hospital last month. 

That long period I spent away from this blog, forgetting to answer replies I got e-mails for and the days of check-in and whatnot for the Exchange, god they were so good even with all that mess going on. I watched and read so many things, even if suffered not writing and other physical things. But I felt good, I really did. Which I think it’s why I was happy to get back here, just to find hate on my inbox yet again (from the same person as always, by the way. This woman really is the saddest person on the planet. Yes, it’s about you. I know you are reading this), and I really thought “why do I keep doing this to myself?”

And then weeks ago I finally realized why. And it’s because I like this show so much. I like the pictures and the stories, the chat group I’m in even if sometimes I feel like they don’t like me, and most important, in spite of all the hate we get here, I love the stories I write for this fandom, and my ship. I’ve never wrote this good, gotten the chance to improve and learn better english too.

I love the writer I am in this fandom and I have wrote so much these past few weeks, and all because I started to write shy*n again. 

So what do I do?

There are days when I forget this blog exists. It’s been so boring, this hiatus and how things have changed, the lack of content makes things dry and easier to forget. I just forget it exists, but then when I get in, it’s fun when there’s no hate. I find it entertaining to go into my blogs and tag everything properly, organize tag pages and make lists of films based on things, make edits, answer old asks I didn’t have time for before.

Since now that anonymous is off I don’t get any asks, I had have the chance to answer in depth so many things I had left behind before, it’s been fun. Like it used to be, January-July of 2018 came again to remind me of how things were before The Change. I enjoyed preparing this blog for my deperture, and I found myself not wanting to go.

My first thought after that revelation? “People is going to hate on me on anonymous for changing my mind”. Isn’t that fucking sad? That I have to condition everything I do so people won’t hate me on anonymous and say horrible things just because I complain bout things, then calm down and change my mind like any other normal person does on a daily basic... on my own, personal blog? 

So, so far, this is what will happen:

The blog reminds, since it’s also kind of an archive for this fandom with how much has been posted that I know it’s resourceful to people for all kinds of things.

Anonymous will perpeturally be off in all my blogs. The Library’s inbox will remain closed.

I’m still going to take my long periods of ignoring this blog, so I’m sorry if you sent me any qs and I don’t answer right away.

It will be on perpetual semi-hiatus, since I will come back once a week to answer things, tag stuff, stock the Library’s queue and the one on this blog.

About the updates, I’m just going to post things I would like to archive myself.

New fanfics/chapters of fics coming every Saturday until I’m done posting everything I wrote these weeks. I’m still writing, so I guess my day of the week to check replies, messages and asks will be on Saturday.

I don’t think I will be around for the new season, not the way I used to. I’m so gonna watch it, but no posts from me anymore. This is a big maybe, since I’m not sure of many things right now, especially with my health as fragile as it is right at the moment.

There’s, so far, 131 original posts on queue. These are: lists that were requested on this blog on such things like all episode Shane called Ryan ‘baby’, personal favorite shyan moments with links (I worked so much in this one, I ended up hating it), etc., edits from many things, included shoots found in old articles and so on, the ongoing ‘fave insta pics’ series of Ryan, Shane, TJ, Sara, Kelsey and the boys in other people’s instagrams, more favorite fanfic edits, and more buzzships edits. Also, a few headcanons, rec lists and solo recs.

Queue will post three posts a day, one original text, one reblog, one original edit. Texts are less than the edits, so when they are over, it will be two edits and one reblog. I will be stocking the queue during my weekly visit, so I don’t know if it will eventually run off original posts or not. 

Library reminds what it is, inbox closed until further notice.

Writing Events is over, though. I’m too tired for that. At least for a long break.

This really all depends on my health and how things are once the show is back. I miss the interaction a lot, so having lost the anonymous option it’s really a big bummer for me, and maybe to the people who did like to interact with me and the blog’s content in a positive way via this option. We’ll see.

And finally, I want to apologize not only for the long of this but for my negative reactions months ago. It was wrong, childish at times and out of character. I didn’t realize I was getting bad, and when I did it had already gotten worse. I can now look at all those desperate posts and see how bad I really was at keeping it together and how desperate I was to be okay. 

While I still believe I didn’t deserve the harassment I was getting, I should had never given onto it and answer back. I shouldn’t. It was not only bad for me, but to the people who followed/follows this blog and engaged into the negativity too. 

I caused that by acting exactly how the hateful people wanted me to, and instead of showing myself as the imperfect human being I am, all people saw was a crying girl asking to be appreciated and loved back. And the reality is that forcing those things to happen won’t make it any better, on the contrary, it makes it worse.

All those times I said, “why does people have to insult me for you to care about me?”, it was because I made it happen. I decided to posts those answers and reply to the hate, and it made people, worried by my answers and the tone of them (yeah, I was pretty suicidal and paranoid, I didn’t realize until recently), send their support. It made it look like that was the case, that I needed to be hurt for people to appreciate me.

But now, I don’t post those things. Had to shut down anonymous asks. And last week I got one ask, just one, of someone saying they love this blog. There was no reason for it, just someone who saw me online and send in their positivity. And it was the best thing in the world, those short words, the best ones.

So yes. My sincere and deepest apologies to everyone, involved or not, for having acted, well, toxic in the past months. Hopefully, it won’t happen again. Meds, no anon and semi-hiatus will make a difference, I hope. And things will be fine.

favorite fic you wrote this year: Okay, so looking up my works on Ao3 and holy shit 2019 felt like a LONG year writing-wise. I felt like I finished Double the Trouble years ago. Also, I’m having a hard time choosing between my babies but I’m most proud of Through the Night and Three Robins Rose Has Kissed and the One Who Kissed Back for finally writing down the headcanons I’ve had in my head for YEARS, but hands down Watch Your Back is the hottest thing I’ve written ever sooo.

least favorite fic you wrote this year: John and Jane Shepard’s First Day is okay at what it’s meant for: setting up the Kord Center crossover mallverse au. But it’s rather bland.

favorite line/scene you wrote this year: Dangit. The first one that comes to mind is from a JayRose fic that hasn’t been published yet. But oof. I just skimmed all the things and this passage definitely takes the prize:

His scaled hand cradles the back of her head as Thane looks into her eyes, or perhaps someone else's. “There are two things death cannot take away--memory, and belief.”

Shepard hasn’t been to church in a long time, not since she was living on the streets of Vancouver, but something about Thane’s breath on her skin feels like benediction--his hands on her body like prayer. She’s never considered herself very spiritual, but if there’s a heaven--Shepard imagines it feels like this.

“Like martyrs, you mean?”

Anime but with Thomas and the Sides.

What it says on the tin.

It’s late, I’m tired, I’m not in my house, it’s dark, and I just finished rewatching Pretear with my siblings for the fiftieth time in my life after going to a GAAM anime event.

So I’m thinking about anime and I’m(always)thinking about the sides and Thomas.

So now I’m gonna talk about all of my crap ideas cus my sister doesn’t use her AC, we live in Florida, and I can’t sleep when I’m sweating buckets.

I wasn’t gonna make a post about this originally because I figured no one would care but someone recently mentioned it and I gave Andy some shoujo recs recently and Thomas has made videos about anime so I realized that I was being dumb and could literally just talk about this without worrying too much.

I also figured I wouldn’t make a post about it cus my ideas are crap.

But now it’s late and I don’t really care and I really wanna talk about this, even if it’s just to myself via text format, so I’m making this post while trying to ignore the sounds of my drunk sister doing terrible things in the room next to mine.

So, starting from what I literally just thought of because of what I literally just watched.

Pretear

It’s a terrible but great old anime about a girl who has to save the world by “fusing” with these handsome guys who are sworn to save the world from, basically, an evil witch.

I would recommend it if you like classic anime and/or magical girl stuff and/or reverse harems.

I watched it as a kid with my sisters so many times that I have the entire opening and ending sequences memorized and can give you an exact play by play of what happens in the entire series.

And, honestly, I find a lot of the premises within it pretty interesting.

The fusing thing is pretty neat.

Although it doesn’t change the appearance of the girl who “Pretes” with the guy, it conjures up a pretty cool, in my opinion, outfit and, sometimes, a weapon for her to use.

Also, the way that the “Knights”(that’s what the guys are called) work is actually quite fascinating and makes me wish there was more stuff written and animated for them.

For one, there is a sort of system of recreating the Knights when one of them dies.

For another, their abilities are quite cool, when you get past some of the weaker parts.

And there are just so many cool things you can do with them as a storyteller.

So here’s what I was thinking.

All of the sides are knights while Thomas is the Pretear.

One thing about Pretear is that it says the Pretear must be female.

But, as is the case with most rules in anime, this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case.

What if a Pretear turned out to be male.

Specifically, what if the Pretear was Thomas, who’s just trying to live his best life as a youtuber/ex-viner.

And what if the handsome guys who showed up to turn him into the Pretear where the sides we all know and love but Thomas had never met before.

And there are seven of them guys!

Seven Knights and, eventually, seven sides!

That’s an awesome coincidence.

But, without worrying about that, I’m mostly just thinking of what it would be like for Thomas to be the Pretear with all of the current sides as the Knights.

We could keep it with something more along the lines of the main elements, taking away the original extras of light and ice.

So each of the sides would be either fire, wind, earth, water, or sound.(because sound is an awesome element and you probably already know who I want to give it to.(especially because Sasame’s voice from the anime dub was hecking gorgeous and I absolutely love Virgil’s voice and want him to have this.))

Roman would be fire, of course.

Patton would be earth, because there are some abilities that Shin has as the Knight of Earth that make me think of Patton’s usual role as the sort of father and caregiver and stuff.

And the earth element is portrayed as something very soft and gentle in the series and it really feels appropriate for Patton.

Logan would be water, because I feel like it suits him in a way and I imagine that he would have something like a combination of water and ice since they’re so close and I took out the element.

Deceit would be wind, because he suits the sharpness of the element as it’s portrayed in the anime and he also suits Hayate because Hayate is a lying tsundere who lies so yeah.

And Virgil would, of course, be sound, because there are so many parallels between him and Sasame that it’s kind of ridiculous.

And I am going to list them now so, spoiler alert, I guess.

Their voices can make people faint from their beauty, I’m not kidding.

Sasame acts all cool and calm and okay with things but is internally filled with turmoil.

He has a tendency to be the voice of reason within the Knights, and I think Virgil has a tendency to be the same with Thomas and the sides.

Sasame is riddled with guilt from his past mistakes and is determined to make up for them.

But he makes up for them by doing the absolute worst thing possible and ends up breaking everyone’s hearts by trying to leave them. I’m not kidding about this either. This is a thing both of them did.

But then he gets his redemption at the end and everyone accepts him for who he really is.

Seriously, they are uncannily similar.

It’s kind of hilarious.

So, yeah.

Those are my basic thoughts on this.

Go watch Pretear.

It’s terrible and great and kind of dumb.

But I love it anyways.

Even tho, of course, it would be better if it where gayer.

Moving on!

Natsume's Book of Friends/Natsume Yuujinchou

This is my all time favorite anime.

I have watched the entire first four seasons over ten times now and all six seasons together three times since the new seasons came out.

I love this series more than anything in the world and would absolutely die for Natsume Takashi.(Just like Tanuma.(And literally everyone else.))

In it, a high school boy moves into the home of his new foster parents who happen to live in the town his grandmother used to live in.

He can see yokai while most people cannot and that leads to him being attacked by a bunch of them who think he’s actually his grandmother, who could also see yokai.

He finds out from them that his grandmother used to take the names of yokai she defeated in battle, which would turn them into her servants, and put them in a book she called “The Book of Friends”.

Natsume realizes that he has the book and decides to try and return all of the names in it to all of the yokai they belong to.

The yokai who told him about the book, and whom attacked him in order to get it from him before Natsume punched him and made him stop, decides to help him with this task by becoming his bodyguard and teaching him about yokai and the book in exchange for Natsume giving him the book should he die before emptying it.

Basically, a troubled boy tries to make up for the mistakes of his long dead grandmother, with the help of a very strong yokai disguised as a Maneki Neko/Lucky Cat, and ends up developing as a person over time as he makes friends with both humans and yokai alike and learns what it feels like to actually be a part of a family.

I will recommend it to anyone who likes supernatural slice of life’s and/or really good character development being the focus and/or lots of platonic love and/or just anyone who’s willing to listen to me because it’s hecking beautiful and I want everyone to know about it because it deserves the acknowledgement.

So, I was thinking about this recently while rewatching it once again.

What if Thomas was in Natsume’s place.

What if Thomas could see yokai but couldn’t tell anyone about it.

What if Thomas had a grandmother(His aunt Patty or something just cus that’s hilarious.)who could also see them.

What if Natsume inherited the book she filled with the names of yokai.

And what if he ended up deciding to return them with the help of a yokai bodyguard.

I’m very happy to have this thought.

The two are both the sweetest of beans and I love them dearly.

So I think it’s pretty appropriate.

Also, because I’m a sucker for it, a protective Virgil as a giant yokai dog disguised as a cat figurine is something that I would hecking live for.

Protective Virgil is basically my aesthetic at this point so this idea is perfect for me.

But then, also consider this.

Talyn and Joan as Kitamoto and Nishimura, respectively.(The best friends that don’t know about Natsume’s ability to see yokai but love him and all of his weird quirks anyways.)

Logan as Tanuma.(The friend who can’t see yokai but can still sense them and is, as such, allowed to know about Natsume’s secrets involving them and even help out when Natsume needs it.)

Patton as Taki.(The friend who can’t see or sense yokai but knows a lot about them and can basically use spells and equipment to deal with them and help out Natsume as well.)

Deceit as Natori.(The exorcist who can also see yokai but hates them and befriends Natsume while also trying to trick him into becoming an exorcist as well.)

Roman as one of the Dog’s Circle,(A group of yokai who befriended Natsume and are determined to help him whenever he needs them to.(He’d probably be someone like Hinoe, but with different abilities and things. I’d rather not be as specific with his role because I think he’d be better as his own sort of mythical being who befriends Thomas.))

And, because this needs repeating, Virgil as hecking Nyanko-Sensei.(The strong wolf/dog yokai sealed within the body of a cat figurine who becomes Natsume’s bodyguard because he wants the Book of Friends but eventually just protects him to the point of FACING LITERAL GODS because he cares about him.(Even tho he refuses to acknowledge it.))

Oh my god!

You guys have no idea how much I personally love this!

This entire thought process gives me life!

Especially when I think about all the fun stuff you can do with different mythologies and stuff!

As a fanfic or something this doesn’t have to take place in Japan.

This could just be in a nondescript universe where all the world, and it’s mythologies, are mixed.

So Thomas could meet greek and roman gods or old legends, like the headless horseman, and new legends, like slender man.

There could be crossovers from completely different fandoms that involve mythology.

It could be amazing!

I love this idea, so hecking much!

You guys seriously have no idea.

So, yeah, those are a couple of my anime rambles involving Thomas and the Sides.

I have more.

I have many many many more.

But I’m gonna stop here cus I’m quickly losing the fight to stay awake, which is a good thing cus I’m tired and should sleep so that I can stay awake for all of the stuff happening tomorrow, so I’m gonna go ahead and let myself rest.

2017 Fic (and things) in Review

Total number of completed stories (and things): 11 stories (although three were technically written during earlier years), 2 podfics and 1 vid.

Total word count: 57K words, which to my surprise is very much in keeping with previous years. (During 2014-2017 inclusive -- the period I’ve been ficcing in earnest -- I’ve been running a very steady 55K-60K/year. Right now I’m at 32K for 2018, right on track to continue the trend.)

Fandoms written in: Elementary, My Dearly Beloved Detective, New Russian Holmes, Whitehead Holmes, Sherlock Ferret, ACD Holmes, Professor Challenger, Yuri!! on Ice, Doctor Who, and Wonder Woman. And I vidded in Noah’s Arc, and podficced for Elementary and BBC Sherlock.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? I was struggling with mental health stuff that came to a head in October, after which I spent far less time writing than I used to. Consequently, I ended the year thinking I had written less than usual? And yet my published total for the year is right in keeping with previous years. Brains, they lie sometimes.

What’s your own favorite story of the year? Perhaps Mr. Green and the Adventure of the Ten-Gallon Hat. It hits exactly the tone I was aiming for -- melancholy and humorous, poignant and absurd -- and is likewise exactly the fix-it that I wanted for the film. (Of course Jane ran away from a conventional humdrum marriage to join the circus, and of course she came back to Shirley after.) It is a small story, but my pleasure in it is quite uncomplicated, which is a rarity for me.

Did you take any writing risks this year? Well, trying to finish a 21K story for an exchange (while simultaneously modding the exchange!) felt hella risky: there were a couple of weeks there when I was typing hell-for-leather, hoping I’d be able to wrassle the thing into some sort of finished state before that last, immovable deadline. (We the mods have a bad habit of not holding ourselves to the official due dates, and thus leaving ourselves no margin for error later on. It’s just a smidge more adrenaline-inducing than I quite enjoy.)

And in a different kind of risky, Upon a Ring was an intensely personal story, such that publishing it left me feeling hideously exposed and vulnerable, ugh. Happily, the fandom gave it a kind, thoughtful reception -- ACD fandom is a really lovely group of people.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? Due to a combination of issues, I wasn’t writing at all at the end of 2017; my major goal for 2018 was to see if I could get the creative engine restarted somehow. So far, I seem to be having trouble generating new story or vid ideas, and instead have been digging into my Dispatch Box of Unfinished Drafts (as @educatedinyellow called it) and working on those instead. Which has been productive, sure, but fucking challenging, I tell you. Everything that’s been left mouldering in there has been left so for a reason; none of it has been straightforward to finish. But the effort has been satisfying, too: stories and vids that had once upon a time caught me strongly enough to begin them, now slowly, one by one, coming to see the light of day. And presumably I’ll have levelled up by the time I’m ready to move on to new, fresh ideas (should they ever come).

And further, goal-wise: I was trying to outwrite my misery during 2016 and 2017; I’d like to find a new balance for myself here in 2018, one in which I’m still writing, but for happier reasons.

Best story of the year? Perhaps Nostoi, despite all its faults. I wrote it in a mad hell-for-leather dash, as mentioned above, and so it has ungainly bits, themes that could have been better brought into harness, and in many ways it feels like a retread of Holocene Park -- in subject matter, in scope, in themes and dynamics... Yet in terms of a satisfying, sink-your-teeth-into-it, story-story, it is perhaps the best of what I produced last year.

Assuming, of course, that what you want is a swashbuckling romp underpinned with earnest Holmes-and-Watson feelings! But if you instead want a delicately crafted, profoundly intimate story, Upon a Ring would be the best; if you want open and easy humor with a side of deep affection, The Case of the Six Marmalades would be the best. If you want some uncomplicatedly fun-and-sexy femslash, it’d be Etta Candy’s Last Stand. “Best” really, really depends on what you want from a story, you know?

Most popular story of the year? Etta Candy’s Last Stand -- it single-handedly earned over half of last year’s total kudos.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Honestly, I mostly try not to think like this, for the sake of my own sanity. I write a lot of gen and rarepairs in tiny or inactive fandoms, and unless such a story is an I-gotta-rec-this-right-now powerhouse that earns itself some champions, its readership will never extend beyond its initial circle of my subscribers. If one is going to write stories like that -- and I write a goodly number of them -- one has to be okay with light readership that doesn’t reflect the story’s quality.

Last year, I wrote three stories that fit that description: Sherlock Ferret & the Amnesiac Admiral, The Spanking Ghosts, and Mr. Green and the Adventure of the Ten-Gallon Hat. They’re all three gen or rarepairs in tiny fandoms, and their readership has been low, low, exactly as I expected. But while they haven’t had many readers, their readers have been warm and generous, which is always lovely.

Most fun story to write: The Case of the Six Marmalades! It was such fun dreaming up new ways for Holmes to lovingly and obliviously torture Watson, and for Watson to be grimly polite about it. :-D

Most unintentionally telling story: Eh, I knew exactly what I was doing with the personally telling ones. Etta Candy’s Last Stand is underwritten by that horrible summer of lovelorn pining when I first fell for @grrlpup and every last thing she did made me want to die of incoherent want. Nostoi has a whole lot of homesickness for my childhood, a good portion of which was spent on boats. Spanking Ghosts is rooted in personal experiences with homophobes-I-called-friends, topped with some earnest wish fulfillment. And so on. I put my life on the page a lot, and I very much recognize when I’m doing it.

Biggest disappointment: Those several months at the end of the year when tho words and ideas just... stopped.

Biggest surprise: How much I enjoyed recording As Romeo to Juliet. Beeblock and I haven’t gotten along for a while now, unfortunately, and I discovered while doing canon review for the voices that taking a break from the show hasn’t really lessened my antipathy. :-/ But @iwantthatbelstaffanditsoccupant’s story is tender and lovely, and it was a real pleasure trying to do well by it, to give it the same earnest, heartfelt treatment that the author did. Plus I enjoyed the fiddliness of the sound engineering, trying to get the violin’s voice just so... I’m rather pleased by the result.

First ship you ever read fic for: Is it weird that I’m having trouble remembering this? I know the first fandoms I dipped my toes into fanfic-wise were LOTR and Stargate SG-1, but I never really shipped anything from either of those. I guess the first pairing that got me invested enough to read fic was Stargate Atlantis’ Weir and Sheppard (not to be confused with Shepard from Mass Effect; why is that such a popular fictional surname?)

First ship you ever wrote fic for: I think that was also Sheppard/Weir from Atlantis. I didn’t write more than a fic or two in that fandom, but it was enough to get the ball rolling. 

Ship you write the most now: Currently I have fanfic largely on the backburner while I work on original writing. It may be a stretch goal at best, but I’d like to get my novel finished and semi-polished in time to enter the Pitch Wars writing mentorship contest, which has a late-August deadline. Sadly that doesn’t leave much time for fanfic. But prior to this original writing push, the pairings I wrote the most were Jyn/Cassian (in my multichapter fic which I will finish eventually) and, taking a glance through my writing tag on Tumblr, Aloy/Erend in prompt-fics. That makes me quite happy, because how can you not love a ship whose canon dialogue includes 

Him: “All the way to Meridian just to see me?”

Her: “Have you been drinking?!”

(spoiler alert: yes. he has.)

Ship you read the most now: I haven’t had much fic-reading time either for the previously mentioned reason. But one fic I have been working my way through as time permits is Equivalent Exchange, an epic length *mumble mumble mumble* Theron Shan/F!Imperial Agent fic. I blame @thievinghippo for reccing it. :p 

Newest ship: *sulkily points to above answer* Two months ago I didn’t like any characters Troy Baker had voiced, and everything made sense. Then I fell head over heels in love with his character in The Last of Us, and my whole world did a 180. I learned to love Theron Shan, who previously annoyed the hell out of me, and started shipping him with my Consular. I picked up Uncharted 4 (which came free with my PS4 when I bought it two years ago and had been sitting untouched in my living room ever since) and went googly-eyed over TB’s character in that too (Sam Drake). Then I played Uncharted: The Lost Legacy--which is awesome btw, basically all about two WoC and their friendship--and started shipping Sam and Nadine hardcore, because hellooo enemies to grudging colleagues to...risking their own lives to save each other? GIMME THAT UST. So yeah, my newest ship is pretty much Troy Baker’s characters/everyone. Except Kai Leng. Kai Leng can still rot in hell.

Rare ship you wanna read more of: Obviously Nathaniel/Velanna, my classic answer to this question. Also Sam/Nadine, which at ten fics on AO3 is even rarer than Nate/Velanna. Probably just means I’m going to have to write my own. Sigh. 

Your taboo ship: I don’t think I have one. My ship tastes tend to be pretty vanilla, honestly.

They never met in canon ship: Not romantic, because one of them is underage, but I think it would have been cool if Bodhi Rook and Sabine Wren had ever met, since they were both Imperial defectors who played significant parts in the Rebellion. Also they both have four-letter last names that refer to a type of bird. Not that that means anything. 

Your unexpected ship: *sighs loudly* YES THERON, I LIKE YOU NOW. Doesn’t mean I forgive you for always giving Lana a hard time, though.

The ship you always forget to give love to: Most of my Old Republic ships in general, really. For example, I love the Trooper/Jorgan romance, but I’ve never written a single thing about them. I’ve barely written anything for Bounty Hunter/Torian either, which is another of my faves.

Ship your OC with a canon character: Do my BioWare ships count?

A ship you’re embarrassed to ship: I don’t think I have any. Ship and let ship, man. 

Your most romantic ship:  I think it’s Shepard/Garrus, really. Not much compares to the scope of their journey across three games, topped off with how satisfying their scenes were in ME 3 and Citadel. For all BioWare’s faults, I will forever be grateful to them for giving all us weirdo xenophiles the love interest we asked (and asked, and asked) for. 

Your sexiest ship: It may sound weird to say Jyn/Cassian given that they never even kissed. (Stupid canon.) But the way that they looked at each other. The eyesex was real. So was the utter lack of personal space.

Your most tragic ship: Also Jyn/Cassian. It doesn’t get much more tragic than dying in each other’s arms. (I reiterate: stupid canon. Thank goodness for fic.)

A ship you want more content for: All of them.

What is your total word count on AO3?

337,965 which... huh. That’s definitely a number??? Huh.

How often do you write?

At least once a week I’ll write SOMETHING (whether it makes it to publishing or not is another thing altogether), but I definitely get creativity, inspiration, and energy in bursts. So some weeks I’ll be writing every single day, some weeks not so much, but yeah on average probably at least once a week.

Do you have a routine for writing?

L O L  N O P E because the minute I try to establish a routine then I get into this mindset of like “oh the circumstances are not *right* for writing, the stars aren’t aligned, it’s not the right time of day, I’m not in the right place” etc. I do a lot of guerrilla writing, like I’ll have a gmail doc open on my phone on transit and I’ll be writing in rough dialogue and exposition while it’s fresh in my head. I have notes for different stories EVERYWHERE - on my phone, on my computer, in the backs of notebook, on scrap paper, it’s a mess. 

Do you have a favourite fic of yours?

Oh gosh that’s hard. Uh. THEY’RE LiKE MY CHILDREN I LOVE THEM ALL FOR DIFFERENT REASONS.

Heart Says Go is near and dear to me because of everything it represents and how long I’ve been working on it and how much of ME has gone into it. I feel like the Child, the Darkness Will Rise series (which I really need to continue) had some of my best dialogue and creative moments (like, the entire exchange between Fenris and Solas in this chapter I consider some of my best writing quite honestly). Also the entire gra-dilseacht-cairdeas series is just sweet because I love Mahanon so much.

You’ll Remember Me makes me cry every goddamn time so there’s that??

Your fic with the most kudos?

Heart Says Go only juuuuust beats out You’ll Remember Me, which I mean... it’s a long fic, so makes sense!

Anything you don’t like about your writing?

The phrase “undeniable heat.” More specifically, “(they) looked at (them) with undeniable heat.” I didn’t realize how often I used it until I reread things and I feel like that’s a phrase that should only be used ONCE (1) in anyone’s body of work.

On the whole I’m really critical of my writing - I think I get repetitive and my dialogue is noticeably stronger than my exposition. I’m also much better at writing emotion-based story arcs than like... plot-based story arcs if that makes sense. I also have a tendency of boiling down characters if I’ve been writing them for a while and missing nuances - way too easy to turn fully-fleshed and complex characters into stock characters if I’m not paying attention. Oh, and I keep writing my own life into shit which isn’t necessarily bad but I can definitely get way too self-indulgent at times and that’s when I do big block editing and cut a bunch of shit out.

Now something you do like (about your writing)?

I make emotions happen? That’s why I make anything, writing or music or otherwise. If I make people feel things then I’m happy, and sometimes the comments I get - especially ones from people who kind of get the place I’m writing from sometimes and say that I’ve helped them feel a thing that helps them (I’m not very coherent with all this sorry), then I’m happy. I get really excited when I come up to certain story beats that I feel strongly about, the ones that make me tear up to sad music on the SkyTrain because of the characters and what they’re going through, because I love seeing other people feel things about it too.

Also, sometimes I’m REALLY GOOD about planting and payoff. Sometimes. Not always.

What are your favourite kinks/tropes/pairing?

GONNA PUT THE REST UNDER A CUT FOR NSFW SO QUICKLY: IMMA TAG @therealmnemo, @lunaahawke, @motherfuckingnazgul, and ANY OTHER WRITERS WHO WANT TO DO THIS THING TO DO THE THING

Kinks: ........a lot. I mean a lot of the classics, with one or two less commonly seen in fanfic sadly (I mean I write Iron Bull ffs that should cover most of them) (also is it just me or is admitting having a bit of a tickling kink way more embarrassing than being like “bruh please rec me a good bdsm tease/denial fic with vibrating EVERYTHING and lots of ropes and chains” like idk maybe that’s just me). For writing, I love writing any semi-public “we gotta be quiet” scenario especially if it’s one just being a major dick to their definitely enjoying life but oh god why here why now partner (see: that one under-the-desk dorian/lavellan smut fic I wrote). 

Tropes: Is trauma recovery a trope??? Also MAJOR fan of hurt/comfort, friends waiting on the sidelines with popcorn while the idiots dance around their feelings, sentinel/guide (I’m legit writing a video essay on it because I love it so much and find the history FASCINATING), cuddling, sweet slightly naive sunshine folks and the people who’ll kill to protect them, head and the heart, all that fun shit. Also, frat!aus.

Pairing: Have You Heard The Good News About FenHawke? 

Though for real one of my favourite pairings to write for has been Marian and Isabela in HSG, i feel like I kind of Trojan Horse’d a complex and kind of personal love story about a relationship between two damaged people scared to really commit but trying their damnedest into a FenHawke coffeeshop au. Of all the pairings I’ve written, those two have felt the realest to me. 

Also, my fucking HEART for Bull, Dorian, and Mahanon - especially Bull and Mahanon, because I actually romanced Bull on my first run through DAI and I find their dynamic fucking fascinating?? But it’s just not complete without Dorian, I love him to death. All three of them. I could (and have) go on for DAYS.

what is erised?

OMG! Hello, nonnie, first of all I want to thank you for bestowing me with the honor of introducing you to Erised!!! This is so exciting! And I’m so excited for you!!!@hd-erised​ is one of the most amazing fests in the HP fandom! It’s a winter gift exchange for fic and art that posts amazing pieces throughout December and reveals the creators in January. It’s a fest that has been running every year since 2013 and evolved to fill the void left by HD Holidays, the original winter holiday exchange fest from ye olden days of fandom (yours truly participated in three of those rounds with some of my first fanfics and boy howdy were they bad when I found them again recently hahaha!). It’s hosted by three amazing people, @gracerene09, @sassy-cissa, and @capipuff and each year they do a brilliant job of corralling creators, organizing the whole fest, lovingly and carefully matching gifters and giftees, and providing us with fun bonuses like a guessing poll and fun facts at the end of each round. As with most of the established fandom fest events, it’s home base is on LJ and can be found here. However, as I was mentioning in a post the other day, most of the popular fests also have a tumblr presence to promote the revealed works, so as long as you’re following the fest’s tumblr you’ll be in the loop for when posting starts on December 1, 2017! Six weaknesses

World building and complex plot. I’m all about the character-driven stories and have enormous respect for people who can do intricate plotting and world building.

Writing sex? Sometimes I think I’m good at it, sometimes it feels clunky and formulaic. It’s the emotions around the physical stuff I like writing best.

Waffling on. Ha. Case in point.

I’m crap at deadlines. Sorry mods!! 

Taking on too much. LOL. This reminds me of interviews ‘my biggest weakness is that I work too hard’ :D - it is something I need to balance though, otherwise I get burnout and can’t produce anything at all.

Not always leaving comments even when I’ve adored a fic and know how much comments mean to me as a writer.

Seven loves

My fandom friends. The best thing about fandom ever. I adore you all, you supportive, talented, creative, smart, wonderful people you <3

Fest mods. I love taking part in fests and I know from my own modding experiences how much energy it takes. I appreciate you all enormously, particularly exchange fest mods, because that is A LOT of work.

When someone is excited to chat about a fic I’ve written with me, that gives me the warm and fuzzies.

The support, talent and generosity that you find in fandom communities. People giving freely of their time to make cool things for people to enjoy or supporting others in those endeavours. 

Conventions and meet ups. Getting to go to Vegas, dressing as a wizard and participating in panels at Leviosa will forever be in my heart. I properly got into fandom through a HP convention and I still love meeting people. I loved some of the meets I hosted in London and some of my favourite fandom moments of 2017 involved meeting fandom friends. 

Anything that makes me feel inspired creatively.

Those comments that make you want to dive back into writing all over again. Readers, reccers and commenters, you make such a difference and you are wonderful, wonderful people <3
