A Beginner's Guide to Youtube.

Hey there! If you don't know much about me, here's a small introduction: I am a 19-year-old college student who wanted to be an artist but took Political science honours and now is a Youtuber and Small Business owner in the niche "Art". In the past two years, I've learnt social media management skills, photography and video editing, SEO techniques and so much more on a moderate skill level. So, Why am I writing this and what possibly a 19-year-old beginner with moderate skills could teach you? It's how you can have a right start by not making the same mistakes that I made.

I'll be telling, how you should start with Youtube. If you're looking for "easy to go make money in one-week ideas" this is not for you but if you're dedicated and want to earn passive income in upcoming future or if you have a personality, a talent that you want to get some benefit from because you believe in "if you're good at something never do it for free" then you are at the right place. I'll be making this as easy as possible and breaking this into points so you can always come back and look into it whenever needed. The points are as follows:

1. KNOW YOURSELF AND YOUR PLATFORM:-

First things first, whenever you have to start something not just YouTube you have to know yourself, only then you'll be able to explain yourself or your brand, niche to your audience. Here are a few questions that you should ask yourself to know what you or your brand would be displaying to the audience:

⦁ What it is that you do the best? ⦁ How you can portray what you do? ⦁ How can this be relatable/entertainment to others?

Once you've answered all of the above questions and you know what content you'll be making, It's time you learn about your platform. Get your stalking and searching skills ready and learn every little detail about YouTube and it's algorithm. There are thousands of videos and blogs out there that tell you about the YouTube algorithm and monetization. So, go out there and learn everything about it.

2. GEAR:-

Chances are that you're here looking for money earning Ideas and Don't want to spend much on shooting equipment. Well, you'll be happy to know that everything that you need to make a video and edit a video is free or you either have it. So, Here's the list of things that you'll need and their alternatives.

⦁ Camera: Just use your Smartphone. There is an app on the PlayStore that you should use instead of your phone built-in camera. The name of the app is "Open Camera". It enhances your video quality and you can search for a video that shows what settings you should change in the app.

⦁ Camera Stand: You can either get one camera stand of Amazon for cheap or just use a books stand. Though, You should buy a camera stand because you'll be needing it for quite a long time and books stand is just a temporary Idea and It's only Ideal for the 'On-top perspective' videos. The Camera stand on Amazon and Flipkart starts from 150 Rupees.

⦁ Editing Softwares and Apps: There are only a few software and apps out there which are free and have no watermark. Firstly, those who don't have access to PC or Laptop, Don't worry. There are apps out there on phone that works well like VLLO, Kine master mod (it's a cracked version, download it through torrent). Learn how to use these apps on YouTube. Now, for those who have access to laptop and PC. I currently use "Filmora". It's free and easy to edit on but if you're looking for something advance then you can get any software that you want, all you need is the right torrent site. But, If you're a beginner, I'd suggest you start with something easy and which tutorials could be easily found on YouTube or for free.

3. PLANNING:-

Before shooting your first video, you should do plenty of planning. Here are the following things that you should definitely plan:

⦁ Content: Always think beforehand about the content of the video. Once you have the content of the video in mind, write it down. From the content, make your description of the video and a script.

⦁ SEO Techniques: You should add the most searched keywords to your description. Search YouTube videos related to your content, choose the title of the video that's on top of the search result. Also, use apps like Tubebuddy. It helps you in finding the right keywords and much more.

4. GET TO MAKING:-

⦁ Filming: My tips for you in the filming part is always try to make your video clear and simple. Don't put filters while you're filming the video, you can put the LUTs/filters while you're editing the video. Sunlight is your Best friend. This is the best source of light which is free and gives your videos the perfect golden hour look.

⦁ Editing: You don't have to do extraordinary editing to get your videos more views and likes. Always keep your editing simple and easy. This doesn't mean you shouldn't put any effort into it. Experiment with tools like chroma key, LUTs and transitions. Best format for your videos is 1080p (1920×1080 pixels; also known as Full HD) but it's better to choose the format that is compatible with your camera.

⦁ Thumbnail: Thumbnail is the graphical representation of the video. This is probably the most important key in getting people to watch a video without even asking them to. Suspense-filled thumbnail makes people wonder what happens in the video so they eventually give in and watches the video. It is also called "clickbait". But we need loyal subscribers not just views, so, don't go overboard with clickbait. The quality of the thumbnail matters too. If you're adding in a text in your thumbnail then make it large and visible. The best app to edit your thumbnail is PicsArt and for adding fonts in the thumbnail is Phonto.

⦁ Uploading: After you have your video, title, description and thumbnail edited and ready. Go on your Youtube app or Youtube studio site on any of your device and upload it.

⦁ End screen and Info cards: Always add End screen and Info cards in your videos. You can learn how to add these through Youtube videos.

5. SHARING IS CARING:-

The main part is now. Share your video with your family members, relatives, friends, friend's friends, your every social media account. It is even better if you have a separate social media account related to your content on YouTube. This enables you to learn more about your followers and their likes and you can make your content according to their likes.

It is not a one-sided road to success. You have to walk together with your supporters to your goal. In the long run, your supporters and the ones who are the same creators as you are is going to help you. So, make sure you are sharing their stuff and interacting with them as much as possible. You look out for them and they will look out for you.

6. CONSISTENCY:-

This is the most important key in beating the YouTube algorithm. Be consistent with your videos. If you are uploading once a week or twice a month, make sure you keep it that way. It's okay to upload more vids but never okay to miss uploading a video. This doesn't mean you should do this at the cost of your physical or mental health. That's why start your uploading schedule as twice a month.

7. FRIENDLY TIPS:-

⦁ Best app recommendation: Tubebuddy, Youtube studio app, Phonto, PicsArt, Vllo, KineMaster mod and Open Camera.

⦁ Always add something in your video that is trending or is relatable to the general audience.

⦁ Make 10 min long videos. It will help you complete your watch hour time a little faster.

⦁ Change angles in the video. At least take 2-3 different angles.

⦁ No shame Self-Promo. You're working hard on your content and your videos so don't be ashamed to share it.

⦁ Sometimes it's a bit tough to accept your voice in the video and that is okay everyone goes through it. Remember, no one is really paying that much attention to it. Ease up on yourself.

⦁ Always remind your audience to subscribe and like the video.

8. DON'T GET DISCOURAGED:-

Lastly, as I said in the starting this is not an "easy to get rich" kinda scheme. It takes a lot of work and patience. You're not just going to get millions of views just in one day unless the video meme material or cats and dogs. So, gird up your loins and don't get discouraged. It does take a lot of time but in the end, it's worth it.
