WOTN: The Sword of Surtur by C.L. Werner (Marvel Novels)
The Sword of Surtur: A New Adventure from the Legends of Asgard The Marvel world continues to move on in book format, thanks to The Sword of Sutur. It’s the latest (but far from the last) Marvel book to hit the shelves. It’s also part of the Legends of Asgard and provides a different view of the world and the characters we’ve learned so well. Unlike the comics (or movies), this Asgard novel is…

Can you please make incorrect quotes on Team Loki (Classic Loki, Kid Loki, Boastful Loki,Crocki (Alligator Loki) , Sylvie and Loki) + He Who Remains seeing scene that resembles Loki's deat at the hands of Thanos exept here Y/N uses Twilight Sword (one that Surtur uses) to cut off Thanos's hands and incenerate him and Black Order with words " Hands Of My Wife" ??
Here Loki is female variant of Boastful Loki exept she has similar history to our Loki (Yeah that means she doesn't have Mjölnir) exept for the fact that she's married to Y/N
He Who Remains: Hands off my Wife?
Loki: what does that mean?
Y/N wraps Fem!Loki in a hug…
Y/N: it means no one hurts my queen
Fem!Loki giggles and nuzzles her lover…
Classic Loki: it means he’s whipped
Sylvie: that’s actually very sweet
Kid Loki: if this is what loves turns us into, I wanna stay single
Loki!Gator snickers…

if everyone in ragnarok had been in character
*Surtur scene*
Thor: Wait, is this a thing I do? Talk to myself? Have I always done this? It seems rather unhealthy.
Peter Parker: WOW, that’s judgey.
************************* *The Tragedy of Loki scene*
Loki as Odin, lounging around eating grapes: And that, my subjects, is how a total dipshit would impersonate me. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have actual ruling to do.
**************************
*Tragedy of Loki Part 2*
Thor: Nothing will stop Mjolnir, even your face.
Loki as Odin: That would be terrifying if I didn’t know how to do this *fucking vanishes*
Thor: Fuck, I forgot he can do that.
**********************
Sidewalk scene:
*portal opens up underneath Loki*
Loki: *turns into a bird and flies above said portal*
Dr. Strange: Fuck, I forgot he can do that.
***********************
*Odin’s death scene*
Odin: I love you, my sons.
Thor: ....are you telling me, Father, that you made no plans in the event of your death? Which was inevitable, because as you yourself once said, “We are not gods. We are born, we live, we die.”????
Odin: *fucks off into glitter no that is seriously what happened*
Thor: That’s very pretty, Father, but I’m still angry.
Loki: Now I’m REALLY not sorry I sent him to Shady Pines.
**************************
*after elevator scene*
Thor: Hey, what’s that on your back?
Loki: Oh come on, that’s the oldest trick in the---
Thor: Never mind, it’s just your hair. *picks it off Loki’s shoulder*
Loki: For a moment I thought you were going to attach an obedience disc to my back and leave me convulsing for the Grandmaster to find and presumably melt.
Thor: That greatly offends me! Only a complete ass would do such a thing! The only way it could be worse is if I made a self-aggrandizing speech about heroism and change while engaging in an act of torture!
Loki: That would indeed be nonsensical. Nearly as bad as me plotting to betray you for mere coin. And confessing to it, before I am safely out of the way of your inevitable counterattack.
*both stare at the camera like on The Office*
**************************
*Hulk turns back into Bruce*
Bruce Banner: *completely freaking the fuck out* Wait, what do you mean I’ve been murdering slaves for the past to years? The whole reason I left Earth was to keep from hurting anyone else! Are we going to address this at all? At any point? Ever?
Thor: No, apparently we are to engage in ten minutes’ worth of jokes about the anal cavity of one called the Devil.
Bruce: .....wHAT?
****************************
*after being promoted to Executioner* Skurge: Um, my queen?
Hela: Yes?
Skurge: Why does the Goddess of Death need an Executioner? I mean, you can pretty much kill with a touch, right? You rule over the realm of the dead?
Hela: ...you know what? I’m honestly not sure.
Skurge: I mean, if having a fuckton of swords makes you the Goddess of Death, does that mean that if I go to CostCo and get a cartload of drain cleaner, I’m the God of Death?
Hela: .....
*********************************
*Surtur destroys Asgard*
Korg: Whoops there goes your foundation.
Asgardians: Who the fuck is this asshole can we just grieve for our entire civilization in peace for ten seconds

I watched Thor: Ragnarok again on Sunday. And I realized that Sargeras looks a lot like Surtur (and they both stab planets with giant swords). Why did I put so much work into the lighting and shading on this one? I usually don't with my comics, because it takes forever.

I really hope the MCU doesn't try to do Beta Ray Bill
Honestly, at this point, they can't do him justice. He story is entwined with Thor and Asgard's so much that if the MCU tried to adapt Beta Ray Bill, he'd end up a different character.
In the three origin stories for him I've seen (comic, Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and The Super Hero Squad Show) he enters the story by kicking Thor's ass, before doing the impossible and being the first person (other than Thor) to lift Mjolnir. He then goes on to earn himself a new hammer (given by Odin in both the comic and Earth's Mightiest Heroes versions, and by Mjolnir is Super Hero Squad) named Stormbreaker, and become Thor's sworn brother.
Bill is also thoroughly connected to Marvel's version of Ragnarök. Surtur destroyed Korbin, Bill's homeworld, (except in The Super Hero Squad Show continuity) and Thor meets Bill on a ship full of Korbinite refugees who are in stasis. Later on, Bill fights alongside the Asgardians during Ragnarök, before Thor teleports him away, as he doesn't wish to see Bill die and believes Bill should be with his people.
In the current comics, Stormbreaker has been destroyed and Bill wields Surtur's sword, Twilight. However even if the MCU gave Bill this weapon, I don't think it will work, as most of Bill's character development and story, happed with or alongside Thor's. I wish we could have gotten the "Ballad of Beta Ray Bill" storyline in Thor: Ragnarök instead of the "Planet Hulk" lite stuff we did get.

Avengers #61
Cover Date: February 1969 On-Sale Date: December 12, 1968
The Saga of The Sons of Satannish ends, not in Doc's own magazine, but in the Avengers mag. Oddly this was released in the same month as Doc #177. The conclusion was published before the penultimate episode. Doc enlists the Avengers aid against the giant Norse demons Surtur and Ymir, released by Asmodeus. Let's see how they do.
While this is Doc's story, it's the Avengers book. After two giant pages to reveal the story's name we start in what I presume is Avengers Mansion. Vision is hungry and T'Challa gets the task of feeding him. And Roy is especially generous with the exclamation points and super bold words.
Vision, Black Panther and Hawkeye exchange some meaningless banter about the rock on Vision's head when Black Panther senses a presence.
After overreacting to Doc's ghost image they appear to be impressed. After Hawkeye calls Doc paleface, not realizing he's being racist, Doc enlists their aid to save the planet. They, of course, agree. Doc leads them to the Sons of Satannish graveyard and Doc's ghost goes back into his body. They all go into the mausoleum where they see The Black Knight laying on the ground, motionless.
It's a wonderfully cinematic image. Doc then recounts the events of Doc #178, not yet on sale. Finally, we find out how the Knight wound up in this state.
Despite having rescued the cult from the clutches of Tiboro, the ungrateful a**hole, Marduk, decided to show their appreciation by blasting the Knight with the crystal of conquest. Not nice! Doc blasts the crap out of Marduk and "encourages" him to tell them all they need to know. After seeing Marduk lying on the floor, Doc assures his companions that he's still alive. Black Panther re-enters the chamber carrying the Knight reminding them they must save his life before anything else.
The Knight needs surgery and the only Doctor nearby is Doc. What's a magician to do. Apparently pick up a scalpel and get to cutting. Oddly, no matter how many times Doc's background gets brought up this bit of potential medical malpractice never gets mentioned again.
The Vision bursts in to tell the group the stuff is really hitting the fan. Volcanoes are popping up in Antarctica while Wakanda is freezing over. The plan is thus. Doc will stay behind, contemplate the crystal of conquest and hopefully discern a way to fix the problem. Meanwhile, Hawkeye and The Black Knight head to Antarctica to shoot arrows in to a volcano while Vision and The Black Panther head to Wakanda to do something.
Vision and T'Challa arrive in Wakanda and see Ymir right away. They aim the Quinjet at Ymir's dead center and he bursts into millions of little ice shards. "That was easy!" the pair think. But Ymir has other plans. He puts himself back together.
Hawkeye and the Knight are now in Antarctica so Hawkeye and shoot his trick arrows into Surtur. They have no effect. The Knight swoops down and tries out his blade which goes right through the demon. Surtur then says "My sword is better than your sword!" and blasts the pair out of the sky. The Knight's horse, Aragorn, manages to save The Knight while he then makes a dramatic rescue of the archer.
Back in Wakanda, Vision attempts to melt Ymir with his solar powers. That does nothing and Ymir throws rocks at Vision, burying him. Black Panther then throws rocks back at Ymir while Vision extricates himself from the pile of boulders.
Back at Avengers Mansion (I think), Doc has figured out the crystal of conquest. The two teams continue to battle their prospective demons and Doc casts the spell. The two demons disappear from Wakanda and Antarctica. The reappear somewhere else face-to-face. Conveniently, the Avengers have gone with them.
The two demons pound on each other and cancel each other out. Doc arrives in astral form to close out the deal. Thus closes the Saga of the Sons of Satannish.
I think it's a good thing that they've started to include Doc in the larger Marvel Universe. This is the first time that a Doc story has reached out to another title. While Doc has previously crossed over to other titles, it was as a guest star and he was mostly a plot device. This is Doc's story and the Avengers are living in it. While Roy Thomas wrote both series at the time, we do miss out on Gene Colan drawing this crazy-weird chapter. Gene's rendition of Surtur and Ymir were quite impressive. While John Buscema's more traditional style works, it would have been nice to see Gene close out the arc. Like the last few installments, the story is a bit thin. Battles are stretched out to fill the allotted pages. Doc talks for nearly a page when he's conquering the crystal of conquest. The solution of having the demons defeat each other was still somewhat unique at the time and was a change from the Avengers physically beating their foes into submission.

currently going through my fic folder again. i just finished another ragnarok fix-it fic and like, i'm just wondering what the deal is with the tesseract. seriously, was loki just supposed to leave it to float in space, ripe for the taking? it's such a non-issue to me, the only problem here is the horrible timing with thanos' arrival- i will forever hate thor for calling loki 'the worst' over that and letting it be the last thing he ever tells loki. that was fucked up.
i feel like since the planet was about to blow up (see: literally be engulfed in flames and explode via giant sword) taking the Tesseract was... the most easily accessible choice for escape. Unless someone wanted Loki to die causing Surtur to happen there shouldn't be much of a moral argument about taking the Tesseract.
You can't blame him for Thanos showing up because there's no indication that Loki having the Tesseract caused Thanos to show up. Thanos has been after the stones for years anyway.
Thor seeing it that way I can accept, because he has the right to be upset and unreasonable, but Loki taking the Tesseract was fine and made sense. Acting like he was being sneaky and conniving about it makes less sense because what other option was there?
#like what did you want him to do?? DIE??#Language!#L!#MCU messed up with their narrative and it's not like it was a superb cinematic universe before that point anyway#IW and EG possibly tried being meaningful but didn't really get there#and yeah the entire opening scene was unfortunate :/#i still think if they'd followed up from IW as foreshadowing for EG it would have at least had some symbolism but nah#we always hate the mouse here

much like her father , eisa wields a sword similar to surtur’s. just not nearly as large . while surtur’s sword was called the “ twilight “ sword , eisa’s is called “ gramr “ which means ‘ fierce ‘ . it’s flames are only activated when her hand grips the hilt . the sword itself is composed of a metal known as scabrite ( a god like metal ) which can only be found in the mines of muspelheim while also being created by surtur himself with the 'burning galaxy' .
concerning all of this, she is exceptionally skilled in swordsmanship. her blade has the ability to destroy barriers between dimensions and cut through anything she wishes, shield from other magical objects/powers and works in some ways like a bifrost.

Have you watched the Hulk vs Thor DTV movie?
I've tried multiple times and I can try again if you'd like to talk about it more. Besides some of the Loki scenes (specifically the scenes where Loki is Monologue-ing to Banner, using Magic to control Hulk and fighting with Thor to defeat Soulless Hulk) I find to be a bit dry and lacking IMO. I have watched the Thor Tales of Asgard Movie and I loved Loki and Thor going to Jotenheim to find the big sword.
In Hulk vs Thor, I liked that Loki and Thor have pretty fun chemistry with Loki just Hating Thor, and some of the Evil Hulk v Thor is also great, and of course the team up at the end is fun. But, a lot of the side character feel like they are just there, I know it's her gimmic but the Fact that Amora 'Loves Thor and doesn't realize the Loki is trying to Kill him' I found to be a tad annoying, and the story feels fairly basic. Like, I'm not quite sure who the main character. I think my main problem with the film is that the direction is really lacking (a lot of marvel Cartoons were at this time) and the story is a bit bland. Somehow it could have been more epic, Like adapting the Ragnorak Comic and Had Loki be a complete bastard using Double Team, Fly and Tri Beam while working with and then stopping Surtur with Thor uses Smash and Thunder to stop/ help him (Seriously read the Issue Mighty Thor 353 it's might more exciting that Taika's Ragnorak IMO).
I also have with how Thor vs Hulk and with Earth's Mightest Heroes portray Loki's personality, but I think one of the biggest issues with how Loki is portrayed is honestly he doesn't his characteristic Sass. A more comic Accurate interpretation of Loki can be seen in Marvel's Original Marvel Ultimate Alliance. He loves the Spot Light and Loves the excitement and hates the responsibility. Both 'Thor vs Hulk' and 'Earth's Mightest heroes' at least respect Loki unlike Modern MCU, however in exchange they seemed to have made him more of a generic Villain when he had a little more personality in the comics.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Cute story. Young Thor and young Loki went with the warriors 3 on a quest. Loki was barely learning magic. Thor was a hot head. Sif was training to be a Valkyrie. Young Loki and Thor found the sword of Surtur. One of the dark elves blamed the allfather Odin for his people death. Loki found out he was a frost giant. But Loki never felt cold going to the Frost Giant land. But Thor did.

Output: 1914.
Part 3: "Teuton's Battle Song" Continues -
Cries of pain (&) roars of... rage,
One vast symphony (my) ears engage.
Strike down... whoever bars your way;
Let each (man) kill,
(Before) he dies today!
Ride over the weak;
Accomplish what you can;
Gods are kind... to the strongest man!
Why should we fear?
What greater joy than this?
Asgard alone... gives (a) sweeter bliss!
My strength is waning;
Dimly I see
Valkyries close to me.
How strange the thought of fear,
With Woden's... messengers near!
Darkness comes (&) my spirit rise(s);
Kind Valkyrie bear me (up) to the sk(y).
Conscience clear,
I quit the earth below,
Woden's hall (will I) know.
Grove of Glasir¹... shall I behold,
On Valhalla's tablets be enrolled:
There til Heimdall's² horn shall sound,
And Ragnarok creation (sur)round,
Bifrost³ breaks beneath... Surtur's⁴ horde,
Gods & men fall beneath the sword;
The sun shall die,
And sea devour (all) land,
Stars decend & chaos stand(s).
Then, Alfadur makes his realm anew,
(To) Gods & men
(A) purer life is due.
In that country shall Abundance reign,
Nor shall... vice or woe... remain.
Then shall battle cease
And happiness prevail
(For) evermore.
Notes:
1. Glasir (gleaming) is a tree grove with golden red leaves that lies just outside of Valhalla.
2. Heimdall (illuminator of the world), the main watch guard of Asgard, has keen senses of sight & sound.
Himinbjorg (mountain castle), his home, is located where Bifrost meets the sky.
3. Bifrost (shimmering path) is the rainbow 'bridge' that connects Earth with the heavens.
However, this rainbow only has 3 colors! The red in the bridge is actually fires meant to keep the Jotnar (giants) away.
But, that defense will fail against Surtur's army...
Scholars think that it represents the Milky Way.
4. Surtur (swarty or black one) is a fire Jotunn (man? eaters) who wields a flaming sword.
He guards Muspellheim's (world wreckers) frontier & will lead an army to destroy Asgard - after personally defeating Freyr.
The flames from Asgard's destruction spread out & engulf the whole world!!
Flames that only go out when the Earth sinks in the sea...
PS: Commentary to follow in Part 4.
(Anybody else feel the Tri-State quake?)
Pics: "Teuton's Battle-Song."
1 & 2. A modern look at Anglo-Saxon warriors. These are based on what has been found by archaeologists.
Info comes in from A-S writings, art & what survived to be excavated.
Still, some 'educated' guesses help fill in for what is missing...
3. Shows the gradual withdrawal of Roman forces from Britain.
Also, early raiding by armed groups from around the island & from foreign ports in Europe.
4. Where the mass migrations came - mostly from Germanic tribes.
Successful early attacks became mass migrations of whole 'nations.'
These landings quickly spread out & took control of the southern & middle of the island.
This was early "England" (land of the Anglos)...
The whole island wouldn't be united until after the Norman conquest...
5 & 6. Modern (digital?) versions of Surtur, whose fiery sword closes out the Norse divine era.
For writers out there, this story needs to be continued - in the Balder Era.
Jack Kirby took a swing at it in his New God's storyline.
Anybody else?
7 thru 9. Surtur's horde of demon warriors - from the "Thor: Ragnarok" movie.
Marvel changed the original Norse stories - but, I think it worked out...
Spectacularly.
Next: Part 4 - Commentary.
