Sirius' Moon

In honor of the December full moon, here is a Remus themed excerpt for you to enjoy!

James POV, summer before third year Rating: Teen 750 words

But the July full moon had been the first moon where Sirius and Remus had been apart since last September. And Sirius was a hot mess for roughly forty-eight hours. 

It was so bad, Effie became seriously concerned and asked Sirius if he needed to go to St Mungo’s. Sirius would not eat anything. He was alternating between frantically pacing around the house and lying lifeless in bed. He refused to fall asleep, telling James to wake him up if he did. But they both eventually drifted off; Sirius was even more distraught when they awoke to sunlight streaming in through the windows. 

“Machi, Remus dealt with his transformations for six years before coming to Hogwarts. He is with his mum. His dad built him an amazing cellar to transform in. Just calm down.”

But Sirius would not calm down. “You don’t understand James. What if the magic of the cellar has worn off? What if he hurt himself and Madam Pomfrey isn’t there to heal him? What if —” Sirius let a sob slip through and dropped his head into his hands. 

“Sirius,” James said quietly, sitting down next to his friend and rubbing circles on his back. “Sirius, take a deep breath.” Sirius was sobbing hysterically into his hands. James was honestly unsure about what to do. But he figured sitting with Sirius and helping him regain control over his breathing was where he should start. 

“Moony is fine machi. He is tougher than any of us. And his parents know how to take care of him. Look, let’s ask Am’mā if we can floo call him later ok. It is eight in the morning, we need to give him some time to recover.”

Sirius nodded and his crying ebbed. It was slightly awkward—James and Sirius had decided it was best to not tell Effie and Monty what they knew about Remus’ lycanthropy—but when James asked to floo call, Effie did not protest in the slightest. 

She had them kneel on the hearth rug side by side with their heads stuck into the fireplace to speak to Remus, who was wrapped in several thick blankets and sipping a cup of tea. Sirius had practically melted when Remus had given them a weak smile. And James kept his thoughts to himself. Though he was also glad to see Remus in one piece. 

“Madam Pomfrey sent as much dittany tincture, dreamless sleep, calming draught, and pepper-up potion as she could home with me,” Remus told them in a scratchy voice. “It’s only one more full moon and we will be back at Hogwarts.”

“Where is your mum?” Sirius had asked. 

“She has been with me since dad got me out of the cellar. She is giving me some privacy,” Remus smiled again, though it looked strained. 

“We miss you,” Sirius had said. 

“Yeah, I miss you guys too.”

James was about to ask Remus if he also wanted to come stay for a week, when Sirius said abruptly, “well we’ve got to run. We’ll floo you again in August after the full moon, yeah?”

Remus nodded. “Banging. Keep sending me letters, I like knowing what you two get up to.”

“It’s not the same without you and Pete,”said  Sirius. 

“Still, the letters are entertaining. Mam thinks you two are clinically insane.”

“You show our letters to your mum!” gasped Sirius, as if nothing could ever be so scandalous.

Remus nodded again. “She’s a muggle. She loves anything to do with the magical world and she thinks your perspective of muggle life is hilarious.”

“Glad we could be so entertaining,” Sirius grumbled. 

“Hey, just because you have a terrible relationship with your mam, doesn’t mean we all do.” Remus was actually looking at Sirius with narrowed eyes and a scowl. 

“I’m sorry Moony. You are right. I’m sure your mum is lovely. We’ll write you soon, yeah? We’ll write you tonight!”

They had ended the call and scooted back out of the fireplace. 

“Blimey, my kneecaps feel like they are about to crack in half,” James had said, rubbing his knees. 

“Thank you,” was all Sirius said quietly, to no one in particular. He was significantly calmer for the remainder of the day. 

But as James lay in his bed next to a deeply breathing Sirius, he wondered if there wasn’t something he could do to make the next full moon slightly less intense for his best friend. Unfortunately, he had not come up with anything before he fell asleep himself.

I will never make this because it would be for an audience of one (me) but ever since reading "If we Were Villains" (story about serious drama kids in college who perform shakespeare and deal with a murder) I have been entertaining the thought of a crack fic crossover with High School Musical The Musical The Series where the staff decides they will no longer put on shakespeare after the tragic accident that happened at Thanksgiving, because Shakespeare plays would only increase the tension and drama. So they hire Ms. Jen who decides their spring play will actually be High School Musical (which exists in the 90s in this universe) and it ruins the vibe so much that everyone gives up on being dark and mysterious because they're universally pissed at Ms Jen for making them learn choreoraphed basketball dancing.

Presumably not going to happen for six different reasons, but Rogue!Master as a full companion, treated like one, and them both being scared of his death, because unspoken they both know the second he regenerates their game will be over. No other shoe ever drops, even by the end when there’s been no true reveal but the audience all know, and we’ve played with the tension of exactly when he’s going to break, but he makes it all the way to the end, choosing the in-character decision to die a hero mirroring the scene with Ruby from the beginning but this time it’s real, and we have to go on with zero acknowledgment of what actually just happened between them.

tumblr algorithm stop feeding me takes that this show is just a silly goofy comedy that shouldn’t include death or that Izzy is the token disabled elder queer on the show where an actual disabled elder queer is literally the romantic lead or that Lucius and Pete being called “mateys” is diluting their gayness because it’s not “husbands” or that it’s sexist that Zheng lost her fleet and later prioritized her love for a man or that Ed is Izzy’s abuser because we conveniently forgot all of season 1 or that trauma is never followed through with because sometimes actions are used instead of words or that Ed learned nothing because the inn was apparently a whim as if he hasn’t been obsessing over retirement from day 1 I swear did we even watch the same show?? I literally feel like I’m in backwards land?

I have a really novel concept for y’all complaining about character’s arcs not being fully resolved or healed and that’s called there is supposed to be another season of this show

I also have another really novel concept as to why every single character did not have a one on one trauma apology session and so much time was spent on Ed and Stede and that is because this is literally the Ed and Stede show and also sometimes parallels are meant to be inferred and extrapolated because that is what efficient storytelling does instead of spoonfeeding you

And my most novel concept of all as to why some beloved characters had less screen time is because Max is a massive jerk and cut the budget

Y’all this wasn’t personal and maybe this show was never about Izzy maybe the show called our flag means death is actually about death maybe sad does not equal homophobic letdown maybe the brown gay character introduced as the love interest from day 1 gets to outlive the angry white guy that had a redemption arc after actively bullying and trying to break up every gay couple for a season I don’t know what to tell you just can you please let non-white people have this arc for once without assuming it’s an attack on you I’m BEGGING y’all

so, i’m new to berserk. and i’m just shook at how blatant the homoerotic subtext is? like why did no one tell me about this? I would've read it a lot sooner. I have this very clear memory of me having just read a fanfiction where a guy had just given another guy a blowjob. then I switched off to reading the beginning of the golden age arc, and their duel made me think “this was the gayest shit I’ve ever seen” (much gayer than the literal sex scene that I had just read!!) (2/2) And then it somehow got even queerer as time went on? HOW. The romantic subtext is so obvious that I don’t understand how others can miss it. Pretending these two aren’t down bad for each other is like denying that the sky is blue. No wonder this fandom has such trash takes and bad reading comprehension, they refuse to see the obvious and it’s maddening

lmao yeah if you look at most sites people get information about a canon, like the wiki or tv tropes, you'd never know how gay it is. Even I was totally blindsided by the homoeroticism when I read the manga in 2017, and that was technically a re-read - it's just that the sites where I'd read up on it before diving back in downplayed griffguts so much that I assumed it wasn't nearly as gay as I remembered. And yeah no, turns out it's much gayer.

The day has arrived! The Heir and The Spare (first three chapters because the first two barely count) are live on Ao3.

I've been looking forward to sharing this story for months. For anyone finding it for the first time, check out my pinned post for tons of information. I'm usually pretty chill with keeping shipping separate from canon AND I'm usually more pissed off then not with the vague deniable gay romances in visual media but it's so bewildering to me that anyone would deny Victor and Jayce Arcane being portrayed as romantic.

Like, in their final scene Jayce literally states his commitment to Victor and hands the rune - an unambiguous symbol of victors exclusive affection for him, that victor handed over 3 times before - back to Victor. And that provokes a reaction so intense that they have to physically fight to contain it. And we see their glowing naked bodies thrashing around as they struggle to stay together. And as they finally reconnect they share a look full of vulnerability and almost fear of what's to come, but choose to embrace anyways. And they comfort and hold each other tenderly through the culmination, the final act of total merging and mutual destruction. What brotherhood are we fucking talking about. this is like, the mythical endpoint of all eroticism???

i haven't seen it but i've been meaning to watch it for like 2 years now haha so maybe i will finally get around to it one of these days! and i know exactly what you mean, i remember i once saw a gifset from this movie that instantly made me shout MODERN AU CAUTHOR, right down to the fact that josha's character was wearing some emo black jacket and was being very serious and the other guy had on like a wild floral shirt and was kissing him to make him laugh, but for the life of me i can't find that gifset again and i'm very sad!

but i did find a picture of i think the same outfits from the gifset, at least, so instead, may i present:
