Standells Co-founder Larry Tamblyn Dies at 82

Larry Tamblyn, co-founder of the Standells and decades-long keeper of the band’s flame, has died at 82, the group announced.

No cause was given for the keyboardist and singer’s March 21 death.

“In life, we are given two dates … in the middle there is a dash,” the Standells said in a statement. “Judging from the overwhelming show of love and support to Larry’s memory and that of his family, Larry made the very most of his dash. RIP, Boss.”

The band hit it big with “Dirty Water” in 1966 and in its wake, the Standells opened for the Rolling Stones and appeared in an episode of “the Munsters.” The song, with its Boston, you’re my home refrain, is now a staple at Red Sox and Bruins home games.

“Rock on, Larry, thank you for the music,” the Striped Bananas said.
