God if they’ve fucked up this season by mashing the best (s&s) and the worst (r&r) books in the shadow and bone trilogy together to speed run to Six of Crows only for the show to get potentially cancelled before they even fully get to the SoC plot I will laugh so fucking hard

the small detail in the book that darry checks ponys math hw every night because he's really good at math always makes me emo bc even in their personalities it makes sense that darry is analytical/math and ponyboy is really good at english/ writing. and even that darry was waiting next to his bedside when pony was unconscious in bed like ahhghgd luckily all the bway actors totally embody the characters or i would rly miss those details in the musical. what are ur hc about paul and darrys friendship? bc any "which could mean nothing" relationship is sacred to me!!
WHICH COULD MEAN NOTHING!!!! god paul and darry where do i even begin. all of my thoughts for them can be summed up by this:
Tumblr media
anyways.
•clear path- the front bottoms core friendship
•they are very art donaldson/patrick zweig coded to Me. in the sense that their shared interest (a sport) brought them together and they never really examined their relationship outside of that context. "we're not talking about tennis" "what the fuck else do i have to talk to you about?" but make it football
•their friendship was never very emotionally deep. toxic masculinity and all, discussions of feelings/worries/anything too personal were super rare
•paul’s love language is gift giving but he plays it off like he has too much junk and doesn't need it so darry doesn't feel bad about taking it. darry's love language is quality time- practice, studying, lounging around, anything.
•^ the one exception is the madras shirt. that was originally given out of pity because paul noticed that darry acted like a soc, but his style gave him away as a greaser and paul didn't really wanna be seen with him like that (he got over it tho because darry cant just wear that one shirt every day)
•darry had a crush on him. he didn't know it and always interpreted those feelings as being irrationally jealous of paul. do i wanna be him or be with him stuff. was it reciprocated? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
•that being said, they are chronically envious of each other. darry is jealous of paul economically (he hates being poor) and paul is jealous of darry socially (he want to be as well liked as darry is)
•they begin falling out of touch after graduating. when paul goes to college he pretty much gets a whole new friend group, all but cutting darry out and replacing him
•nail on the coffin (no pun intended) is when he doesn't come to the curtis parents' funeral. that's when darry decides to hate paul because being angry at him is easier than mourning his best friend alongside everything else he's lost
•paul, who is kinda oblivious does not recognize this as the consequences of his own actions, resents darry for unilaterally deciding their friendship is over
• all that being said, i think an eventual reconciliation is possible. it'd definitely take many years post canon, but maybe one day when they're older and wiser they can work it out in the remix <3
(also that detail of darry checking pony’s homework is one of my favorite things EVER i've written about it at length: shameless plug)

actually making two-bit more relevant in the musical was the best choice they EVER MADE, like I love steve I do but he just isn’t the one who checked pony’s forehead to see if he had a fever in the book. the story is about brothers and two-bit mathews has big brother syndrome same as darry, just less serious because keeping his little sister alive isn’t his legal responsibility because their mom’s still around unlike in darry’s situation, and I think about this fact every waking hour of my life
god bless thank u for this fr. i don’t think steve hates pony even half as much as pony thinks he did but at the end of the day. why the hell would pony choose to highlight someone he truly thinks hates him and sees him as a burden. (context being different from darry. obviously.) also idk soda and two bits personalities just jive better to #me like they’re both goofballs bffs in love with pretty best friend soc girls…. cmon. sorry im just kinda a steve hater idk i think his movie actor is ugly i cant get past it

Just saw your chapter titles on instagram. LOVE. Which was the easiest to name? Which was the most difficult? Do you have a favorite? Does it coincide with your favorite chapter?
thank god someone finally asked me about the chapter titles, i’m erecting the Church of Our Lady She Gets It in your honor as soon as i’m done talking A Lot about this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
easiest:
(8) “anatomy of a porn title” came to me before i even had the concept of this book. milo’s experiences working at the store are almost 100% my own, and one of my most memorable days was when i had to process 200+ dvds (this involved a lot of scanning, stickers, and organization). so i’d had this one in my back pocket for a while.
when i finally had a grasp on the story i wanted to tell around my personal sex shop chronicles, (1) “a crisis of sexual identity” was the easy-breeziest chapter title, because it captured the Point i wanted to make.
writing a demisexual romance, even being demi myself, is… not super easy? especially because i wanted to play with the idea of love at first sight, which is so often conflated with lust, and that just doesn’t work the same when you’re on the asexual spectrum.
so much of this book is about being queer and how our labels, however liberating, can also be suffocating, because—particularly in the age of social media expectations—we become so preoccupied with being queer The Right Way. and there is no goddamn Right Way, but we’re pressured into these kinds of performances, and then before you know it your priority is appeasing some dickweed on the internet who says m/f relationships can’t be queer, instead of your own happiness.
so, we start with milos crisis and we follow him through the journey of realizing that, hey, actually, this ain’t so bad.
hardest:
(4) “sick of dating apps, just gonna pygmalion myself a boyfriend” and (9) “the epic highs and lows of grocery store music” both went through several iterations, none of which i can remember now because mostly they were Fine, but they just didn’t pop.
when i landed on (4)’s, honestly i was a little miffed at myself for taking so long because that’s a phrase i made up and use a lot, so i should’ve had the chapter title from the get-go.
stevie’s story starts off with agitation with her dating app experience, which she worries is coloring her first impression of milo because he was nice to her and easy to talk to in ways that app matches aren’t—and then, BAM, he shows up to the bar where she’s sitting there thinking about him and proves her first impression right, as if she manifested him into existence.
now if only i could do the same thing for myself… that’s the dream, babyyyy.
favorite title vs favorite chapter:
i think both have to be (5) “how many degrees of separation are there between kevin bacon and your love life?”
there are several sociological concepts that have stuck with me since college (probably because the head of the department, who was the best dude but also the most notoriously ruthless grader, wanted me to major in soc, and i’m a sucker for a compliment). “six degrees of separation”—the idea that every person is connected to every person through no more than six other people—has a celebrity counterpart, “six degrees of kevin bacon,” which posits that you can trace every actor to kevin bacon.
i am a little bit obsessed with this, because the separation/kevin bacon rhyme alone is so deliciously SERENDIPITOUS, it blows my mind.
for milo and stevie, (5) is the moment where they realize the friends they’ve had in common for ~2 years, and it’s really only been timing that’s kept them from meeting until now (and the timing was a little tricky for me to sort out, too, but i’m happy with how i got there).
sometimes you just keep missing people until it’s Meant for you to run into each other, and i think there’s something deeply romantic about those prior missed connections. there’s a sense of “i could have been loving you longer, but maybe, this way, i get to love you better.”
and, even though milo doesn’t Love stevie yet at this point in the story, his pov in this chapter is circling this conclusion.
thank you SO MUCH for this ask, may love and light bless you for all time, forever and ever and etc. amen 💞✨
(if you’ve happened across this little ditty and want to know more about what’s your vibe?, here’s a link!)

Finally done with sab, and what a roller coaster that was.It wasn't a complete dumpster fire, there were some things I genuinely liked, but its still worth some criticism. So here we go
Lets start with what we are all here for: the crows
I wouldn't call the writing good, at least regarding them.First season was all fun and games bc it was clearly an AU high budget fic of "what if the crows had had their paths entwined with Alina's". My honest to god opinion? It still would've been better to either improve the sab trilogy plot and stick to that, and leave the crows be, or just skip the whole affair and focus on the crows (I'd vote for that one). That's what their public wants to watch, and the rest of the audience wouldn't even know.
Regardless of that questionable decision, it wasn't bad, but actually very enjoyable. At least until it started to fuck with the crow's story,or more especifically, crooked kingdom.I sincerely don't know how they intend to make a good six of crows spin off key word being good, when they used so many elements of Ck poorly, without it being repetitive.I actually flinched with what I assume was meant to be their version of the bathroom scene, and for sure hope it gets a redo next season. The "I will have you without your armor" scene was literal chills tho.Congrats to Freddy and amita
On that note, the actors are great, all of them. They all have the right energy and have clearly put in the work to understand their characters,I commend them for that, especially Freddy Carter. That man delivered.Although there are some things that bothered me, and I chalk it up to bad writing, he put one hell of a performance, it was phenomenal.I had to actually press pause for a second after watching him looking at inej as if she were his whole world, and then saying he wanted to die buried under the weight of his gold, I was laughing too hard. That's the embodiment of Kaz brekker
He's so good that I don't even mind that he doesnt look like book Kaz all that much, and that's something that usually bothers me
On the things I didn't like, this season could be called the death of nina zenik.Nina is one of my favourite characters ever and yet she was reduced to a matthias fan girl in the most outrageous case of instalove/character butchering that I've seen in a good while. They missed the Mark so bad on that one.
Her friendships with Jesper and, most importantly, inej, were completely erased, and so were the principles that make Nina who she is.My jaw dropped at her pratically saying Ravka could go fuck itself. The dynamic with Kaz was good, very book esque, but he seemed the most attached to her and that's odd and ooc, hence what I meant with bad writing.
My greatest wtf moment was the shadow monster getting to her, and that having zero consequences.Nikolai was "infected", genya scarred, David DIED, but nina was left unscathed? Just knocked out behind a rock? It was such a cheap way for her not to be there to help Mal, they could've handled it better or just not have her in the scene at all
The internet is either loving this version of wesper, or raging over it.I, however, dont have much of an opinion regarding them, or at least an extreme one.It was a sweet albeit rushed take on their romance. Yes, it had nothing of the beautiful, heart-wrenching slowburn Leigh built, but it is good in itself, and worked well with this story they were telling, which had nothing to with soc to begin with
This is getting too long, so to wrap it up
Malina tire me beyond words with their drama and non existent chemistry.Apparently that's a constant in all forms of media, which is a feature in itself, I'll give them that.
Its such a soggy romance. The idea of them being the main couple we're supposed to root for is laughable Does anyone ship them besides leigh? That's precisely why I was OVERJOYED with the show making such a drastic change and them not ending up together
While I remember very little of the books, I do remember barely being able to stand Alina. But the thing is, I actually like show Alina as an individual. Not mal tho, if I had it my way he would've died in the fold The only times she annoyed me he was involved.Whether bc she was making stupid decisions in an sttempt to save him, or their dragged on relationship drama, he's always the root of my dislike. She wants to be proactive, mend her country, embrace her role, and all this pain in the ass of a dude has done, besides the sacrifice, is hold her back
I shit you not, her three scenes with nikolai had 110% more chemistry than two seasons and a sex scene with mal.I think this brother they made up for inej will be Zoya's love interest and nikolai and Alina will be end game in this "time line".And you know what? I dig it. Nothing against book zoyalai, they slay, but based on what was presented in the show, this works and has a lot of potential for being good
I could say a few more things, but lets leave it at that for now.I definitely will watch the next season if they make one, I'm curious to see how this is gonna play out

Shadow and bone s2 thoughts:
-the finale was like super boring? Everything happened in the first 10 mins
- for the most part, I liked the liberties they took with the Crows storylines but not the liberties they took with the SAB storyline. Idk where they’re going to go from here. I really don’t want Alina to get in the way of a good zoya/Nikolai story and I’m not sure how I feel about Mal as sturmhond…seemed a little forced and ridiculous
-genya’s scars were really downplayed. She had some on her face and that’s it?
-David and Genya were the best part of the whole season tbh and they killed him off way to early. RIP David.
-I loveeeedddd Tolya and Tamar. Tamar especially was just perfectly casted.
- if there’s one thing the creators do perfectly it’s casting. Everyone fits roles in such a great way.
- I was hesitant of Nikolai’s casting at first but at the end, he was perfect. I’m excited to see what they do with his story.
- I’m really bitter that Alina won’t have white hair????
-if that look flirty look tolya gave inej at the end means anything I swear I’ll puke. No thank you.
-this is more a problem with a line and this is going to be controversial but here we go. I don’t like the “I’ll have you without your armor kaz brekker” line. There I said it. I think both actors did an AMAZING job but I have problems with the line itself. She’s admonishing that they don’t touch. But literally it’s an aversion for him? To feel the skin of others gives him flashbacks and makes him want to puke. And instead of sort of making him feel bad about it, idk maybe try helping him? At the same time, I am glad Inej stands up for what she wants though. Because her agency was taken away (we didn’t get to see this of course in the show) and she is standing up for what she needs.
-that being said, I’m really not sure how I feel about a lot of crooked kingdom lines being used before they’re really effective. Crooked kingdom was absolutely my favorite and so much of it was just slammed into a little amount of time.
-getting Matthias back will be so good, I can feel it already
-wesper was amazing as usual.
-I have to say, kit really brought a lot to the Jesper. I felt sort of meh about Jesper in the books but in the show? I loveeeeee him.
- did I mention I’m bitter about Alina not having white hair? 😂
-OH MY GOD, the tide maker girl who was Kirigans second in command was sooooooooo irritating. Hated her.
-overall it was good. Definitely liked s1 better because it followed the books. I’m excited about a SOC show and about Nikolai and zoyas story but less about the actual SAB plot.
-but also, I love Jessie mei li

shadow and bone s2 time, ep 1+2
-yeah i smacked 'skip recap' i know where we are, netflix
-kaz gave alina and mal forged papers........my beloved -I STILL STAND BY 'KAZ INEJ JESPER ALINA MAL ZOYA WOULD'VE BEEN A SQUAD DAMMIT'
-JUST FLINGING OUT THE SEA WHIP??? OKAY -I DO NOT IN FACT REMEMBER IF THE SEA WHIP HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP YET. SHOULD I HAVE WATCHED THE RECAP. WELL TOO LATE NOW -i'm gonna let that go a lot bc of the desire for power thing going on. it's fine, bring it
-oh we're just pekka rollins flashbacking now????? wow. okay. well -I mean. I............guess...................
-I LOVE Nikolai but idk what it is this actor doesn't do it for me. At all -he should be......sharper? Funnier? something.
-FOR REAL???? HELEEN???????????? -YOU KILLED OFF HELEEN????????????????????? -just like. Ignoring there's a reason heleen is there. Why heleen lives and gets away with it. How inej getting any revenge on heleen is so important and pivotal to the actual plot in soc/ck that doesn't even EXIST here
-is wylan supposed to be blonde or did I imagine that. i thought for sure the books said he was blonde. However I do look at him and go 'baby boy. Baby.' So alright sure
-Matthias I actually forgot about you. My apologies. Or not idk
-heyyyyyy Tamar and tolyaaaaaaaa
-so genya got captured, okay whatever
-HEY. WHERE'S ZOYA. W H E R E IS ZOYA
-the darkling's dialogue. I'm giggling -sometimes. It just REALLY sounds silly as fuck. for everyone, actually.
-I've never been so. Not enthused to see the crows together. I'm just like. God idk I'm not buying that these are my children. Kaz and inej and jesper are fine. But Nina and Matthias and wylan....... -Nina's been through a lot but I always at all times thought of her as so much more expressive.
-I AM intrigued by the turns alina and mal's plot is taking though. Like that I'm very interested in. Keeping the Spooky Magic Dreams between Alina and the darkling but them being separate during the sea whip and seeing what he's up to as well. I like it. -......for now
-if course there had to be consequences for the crows returning without alina, but.......idk. it's vibing weird
-no dunyasha????? No shadow???? Just some fucker????? -since s1 inej's plot points have been CONSTANTLY downgraded. and that's not okay

dear god though this is a mess if you were already a six of crows fan
like i wanna be excited about these moments but just. everything about the writing comes across as "let's cram the entirety of crooked kingdom into the first half of s2 so we can get that out of the way and then the crows can be our convenient puppets for our made up story. don't worry about anything that we don't have time for we don't need it"
and like why even tell it, at that point? they've said they're doing this as a soc prequel so they can tell the crows' story properly later when there's time to devote to it
but what's left? you've done all the big moments, and just taken out every little moment that made the big moments worth something
i believe that the actors all care about doing justice to their book characters in the best way they can, but the writing resembles a high school play of crooked kingdom directed by someone who read the book once three years ago
like, something i love about leigh bardugo's writing for six of crows specifically (and why i love that series a lot more than shadow and bone), is that both books are each a perfect puzzle. every single bit of information learned, every tool at kaz's disposal, every person he meets, even the things that previously worked against them, they will end up as a crucial piece of the final solution.
like the books really use everything, my favourite part of reading them is when you see a piece get pulled in that you totally forgot was even a thing, but kaz didn't. either ironically or fittingly given his background, kaz will risk every single asset he has, down to the last penny or a tiny rumor someone told him about someone else, to make sure he and his crew make it out alive and with everything they're owed. even his own trauma (and nina's) becomes a vital puzzle piece in the original plague plan
(and for much more complicated reasons than just shutting down pekka's businesses or preventing access to fifth harbor - the fake plague does all those things but it also creates the circumstances necessary to get kuwei out alive and free in the middle of an auction where quite literally the entire world wants to buy him)
on both a meta level and an in universe one, every detail is important (something kaz stresses when matthias fails to tell him about the tree in the white island, which then becomes vital to their escape plan)
not even just with kaz, like. jesper saving himself from the kherguud, can only happen because he has the wyvil in his pocket, because he picked it up half a book earlier when it was left on the table and he needed something to fiddle with because he couldn't look his dad in the eye. everything will be used. chekov's goddamn firework show, and it's so satisfying to read
this is the exact opposite. it's like the writers aren't even aware of what pieces are up in the air most of the time. i was losing track of what the crows were even after at several moments. they know some of these pieces should go in here somewhere, but they're doing a jigsaw blindfolded. this isn't an artfully crafted narrative. this is like 6 pieces stacked up in a tower bc they got bored of trying to solve it
and like maybe i'd enjoy it if i hadn't read the books? but every time a book moment has come up in episodes 3 and 4 all i've been able to feel is just sinking disappointment in the massive holes all over it
me watching sab season 2, just mentally repeating to myself: it's not an adaptation it's high budget fanfiction, it's not an adaptation it's high budget fanfiction

“Black Panther Wakanda Forever” has a supporting cast of actors and actresses, without whom the story may not have been as effective. Sure, our main leads and the secondary characters are cool and awesome, and the story is amazing, but it’s people like the ones above who play small but very important roles in the story.
Having a young boy witness the trauma of his people be subject to horrors no child should be privy to, and hold on to that fear and rage with a grip so tight it transforms into vengeance that burns within a god-king hell-bent on protecting his people… little Manuel Chavez may not have been onscreen long, but his presence very much informed the charismatic K’uk’ulkan who is both filled with rage and kindness in equal measure.
Like Manuel, Irma-Estel LaGuerre and María Mercedes Coroy may not have been onscreen much, but their portrayal of a mother who, for the sake of her unborn son, must ingest a concoction to save both her and her people from the raging fires of colonialism resonates with many. In the film, K’uk’ulkan wonders what it is like to be a people in a pristine land who never have to leave. His mother loved him, cared for him, and wished for him to bury her in the land she loved so much, even if it was being desecrated by people who most certainly did not belong there to begin with. LaGuerre and Coroy portrayed a woman who had so much love to give, yet lost so much; it is to nobody’s surprise that her son adopted the name “Namor”, itself shortened from “el niño sin amor”, the child without love.
Without Josué Maychi, there may well not have been the inclusion of the Yucatec Mayan language in the film. Maychi’s role as the shaman who was guided by a god to retrieve a plant grown in Vibranium-rich soil to heal his smallpox-afflicted people is very important to the story, as without him, Talokan is as good as nonexistent. It is thanks to the shaman that Talokan was able to thrive as we see it do in the film.
María Telón Soc portrays a Mayan elder in the film. Her role, though small, is crucial as she is one of the guiding forces who help convince K’uk’ulkan mother to ingest the herbal drink to save her and her unborn son. Like the other actors and actresses mentioned above, she may not have been onscreen for long, but her presence informs the decisions we see the other Mayan-Talokanil make.

the ending of Pushing Daisies. so heres the catch,
never maintain the status quo when you're exploring cinema to end the worldview of the spoiled brat. so there is no spectrum to explain it but your worldview disaster catastrophe outcome of lying to get what you want, so there is actors rights (fame is beauty for the best reason which produces the GOLDDIGGER)
an actor has a wife: Mummy's boy is too beautiful to exist alone so the mother gets a stroke from living (married life of her own is not there to complete her anymore except the one 'housewife' who never stops working at her own home (broadway syndrome) since her son takes charge elsewhere (curtain call) but there is always the one succubus (tits and personality of a baby) sabotaging his career on his way home so her plan is to make sure the show is not fed to the world cord of the leader of the chat (mother of the bride) by endless fascination but no hope to lead to 'the cure' which means the world to the waitress (hate lead in a drama of her own accord) so there is no fascination anymore but a world at loss for the wonder to take place (MIL has a kid next to her that would love the life of... and then she's yet to know her name because she does not feel the joy til she feels it and it officially ends)
so heres how a succubus works:
the sleeper:
Neurodevelopmental disorders: autism spectrum disorder
she will make everybody know the ending before her, so she is actually okay with being casted with the most dangerous role on the planet even if a baby's life is to be held at stake, she will never feel the need as long as she got her sisters husband (succubus's are sincerely attached to the sister's husband to be one)
2. Neurodevelopmental disorders: motor disorder
she will then claim she has rights to cancel out everything she has with her sister to maintain a fear that she is going to die, so she will set up her sacrifice on the date she dreams of will be her last
3. Neurodevelopmental disorders: communication disorders
she will trap her in her own world (her life) in a play in which she practices in her own terms with magic pens she writes backwards to keep her sisters true society at bay (separation marriage because the victim sister does not know what the sister already knows so she intends to take away her language by mastering her role to no point so her happiness is sincerely depended on the organ donor (my sisters keeper - Jodi Picoult)
the final word:
Trauma- and stressor-related disorder: Unspecified Trauma- and stressor-related disorders (virgin battery)
she will allow the fusion to connect to every body the victim sister has to maintain her status quo (hypocrisy)
2. Trauma- and stressor-related disorder: Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder
in every single way the victim sister has a verbal calamity limit (usually the succubus's sister has a mental disorder from birth that limited her) and in growth, the more aware she is to social value, the more aware she is to growth by heart (God consciousness) so she will attain to value by originating her religious values by her own damaged past as she is by letting her complain (gratitude) and order (possessed as mother) to easily manipulate the victim's social life to her interest by depression (sister as the victim sister's true relative of heart of convention without her being used: family values)
3. Trauma- and stressor-related disorder: Acute Stress disorder
she rapes the men of the victim sister's interest for 'attention' so she has them all taped for 'such reason she survives with her getting killed by her own mother (which is where she says 'traitor' to finalise her role as crowned Queen of West End)
Crown Queen of England:
Personality disorders: paranoid personality disorder
her cum inside of the men will possess them to go against the victim sister's life as her role as 'leading Hollywood lady' which she arrogantly possesses as her role as God and they all will follow it knowing what she did was against social treason (Wizard of OZ is what she sincerely follows til the end: the victim sister's (neuro-divergents) life as a collective) follow her command by slavery induced tactics to lead everybody into her own plans of forgetting the 'worst kind' by commanding the Neuro-divergents into self-destructive honour against God (hate pain becomes normalised for witches of the worst kind to open all doors of evil)
2. Personality disorders: histrionic personality disorder
she will make everybody go after her in hate which is how the circuit body of her life is now electronic for everybody to use the victim sister's life as nothing without gratitude or she physically dies (devil's plan succeeded)
3. Personality disorders: OCD
she now has the lifeblood of the victim sister's world in her view (personal slave til world physically dies out of her immaturity to logic - Simpson's reference all the way through)

Wylan tailored as Kuwei adaptation thoughts
I just realized that for end of six of crows/ck that the character Wylan will be tailored to look like Kuwei. And I'm wondering how the shadow and bone show or the possible spin-off? show will deal with this. Honestly, I felt like this part of the book was my least favorite aspect. Also, because it was a bit awkward. Like I won't go as far to say that it was "yellowface" because it was something done for Wylan's safety. And Wylan was not appropriating anyone's culture. But it's not nothing. it still is a white character taking on an asian appearance when holds the implication of a white character putting on asianness like "makeup" which I feel would be different than a white character tailored to look like another white character. Idk I 'm just trying to say that there is different implications depending on the historical cultural relations between the races that are swapping appearances when the races have historically different levels of privelage and power. Okay I'm probably reading into it too much. It was basically just another character taking on another appearance in a fantasy novel, but I feel there was more to it still in some way.
I think it was one of the more clumsy things that Bardugo wrote. I know Bardugo is not racist and is sensitive to racial issues and that's reflected in the casting of Jessie Mei Li. But this particular part of soc/ck kind of shows that she was not exactly well-versed on the racial implications of Wylan looking like Kuwei. I will excuse her. It is clumsy. Okay, honestly, as an asian-american, I wasn't that bothered by the fact Wylan is taking on asian appearance, because I knew it was for plot purposes. I was mostly irritated like of why Wylan had to be tailored for such a long period?? Bardugo left that plot point hanging a while haha unneccesarily. He could have been tailored earlier! Lol I just felt bad for Jesper. He wants his boyfriend back lol. Ohhh wait I was pretty irritated about the way Wylan was treated looking like Kuwei by other characters. They would be like "ugh I got confused between you two" It must have made Kuwei feel sad like he's probably like "hey that's my face. I'm sorry it's covering Wylan's face and confusing everyone. I just tryna survive"
Okay mostly little sad about the fact that I will see Jack Wolfe's performance leave us if they go the route of replacing the actor with the Kuwei actor. Like I'm sure the casting of Kuwei will be great and amazing because the casting directors are gods. Like maybe the Kuwei actor will be awesome at imitating Jack Wolfe's Wylan like how Helena Bonham Carter pretended to be Emma Watson's Hermione when Hermione was pretending to be Bellatrix. But dang that's a lot to ask for an actor. Lol i'm too skeptical. I'm sure it will be amazing. Maybe they'll have Jack voice and Kuwei mouth the lines. i have no idea. Maybe other people have insight into how movies and shows deal with an appearance switch haha. I'm thinking maybe... they'll forgo this plot point of Wylan looking like Kuwei. Or make him tailored only for a while. It sounds inconvenient show-wise. My prediction is they'll probably be some "yellowface" complaints... and the show-runners wouldn't want to risk that. I know Wylan looking like Kuwei is not exactly "yellow face" but I sure in our current political environment, it could be read that way. I personally feel like it would be fine if they did show Kuwei as Wylan in the show, because I understand it's a plot point. But I just wonder how audiences would react?
Okay lol I worry too much. I'm getting ahead of myself. I haven't even seen Wylan yet. and I'm pretty sure the coming season will be all Jack Wolfe looking Wylan since there's no Kuwei. But I wonder of the future future season

i feel so ill about shadow and bone but not even just about the situation with amita and her stunt double. six of crows has been one of the most important books to me since i was SO YOUNG (i got it as a gift for my 12th birthday) and to see the producers and even some of the cast ignore the nuances of the crows specifically just shows that they really do not care about artistic integrity or respect six of crows as a piece of art.
and oh my god it hurts!! i wanted so so badly to enjoy this show because i love the duology but there are just too many problems. like first they disrespected kaz, nina, and jesper by casting people who should not be playing those characters. and like sure i thought i could look past that but not only does the casting disrespect intrinsic parts of those characters’ identities like kaz’s disability, jesper being dark skinned, and nina being fat, but it also takes away such an important element of the series which is how trauma manifests itself in teenagers. actors who are well into their twenties cannot properly portray these characters because they are so defined by how young they are.
and like sure i guess you could say that i’m nitpicking but there are still so many other issues. they made a mockery of inej’s story of being stolen from her family and sold into child sex trafficking and for what? so they could get rid of per haskell and use tante heleen as a funny side character? also not to mention the portrayals of bisexuality (particularly with jesper) are so grossly reminiscent of stereotypes that bisexual people are more promiscuous than others. like if i didn’t read the books and if they hadn’t included the sex scene i wouldn’t have known that jesper was bi and that alone says something about the quality of the representation.
there are other things i have gripes with but that’s all i have the energy for tonight lmao. also please don’t come at me and saying that i’m hating on the show because i promise you i’m not. it literally hurts me to have to say these things because i love soc so much and wanted so much from s&b but honestly i just can’t ignore these things any longer. it makes me so sad because soc and its characters have been with me for so long and to see them reduced to what they were on screen is just. painful. anyways i’m not saying you can’t enjoy the show because you absolutely can. but i encourage you to think critically and call it out when it needs to because this shit is unacceptable and a complete slap in the face to the masterpiece that is six of crows.

the ideal six of crows tv adaptation would be either a 12-episode miniseries or a 2 season show and would contain the following:
- all crow actors are 22 or younger. you know, so that they actually look like teenagers. lockwood and co did it, skam spain did it, it’s not that hard
- per haskell!!! so much of the worldbuilding in soc revolved around the idea that while teens were the ones doing most of the heavy lifting for the Dregs (and all the Barrel gangs), they weren’t the ones in charge. they didn’t have the opportunity to keep the money they made from their crime, it all went straight to the bosses, hence why kaz takes the ice court job in the first place. they were being actively exploited by adults looking to keep their hands clean, and it’s horrifying. make kaz have to explain himself to his shitty boss 2kforever
- 1910s and early 1920s aesthetics. this one is a personal preference but i wasn’t a huge fan of the whole 1870s-1880s thing the show had going on, i think it’s overdone. 1910s also works for the sudden development of insane new military technology, iykyk
- ketterdam will actually look like amsterdam or utrecht instead of just some generic fantasy european city
- jesper will wear ACTUALLY BRIGHT COLORS (and not be lightwashed lmao). i want this man to look like a traffic light. like stromae in the tous les mêmes music video if he was on amphetamines
- adding on to that, the barrel as a whole needs to be 100000 times more gaudy. leigh bardugo didn’t write those insane place descriptions in soc just for the barrel in the show to be shown in various shades of black, grey, and brown
- challenge mode: have the entire show be in dutch. if it’s english, make sure none of the characters have british accents. idc if they’re aussie, american, canadian, kiwi, south african, nigerian, just no more british accent fantasy worlds please god
i think that shadow and bone netflix improved a lot on the sab trilogy and its many many flaws, but i will NEVER forgive it for what it did to the six of crows duology. who are these grad students and what have you done to mg traumatized teenagers
