Writing Character Accents in Fiction
Hey there, thanks for the question! I speak English as a second language; most English speakers I encounter aren’t native (yes, including fictional people); thus, this is a concern I’ve explored personally when I write.
I think the core principle regarding accent writing is this: it shouldn’t be distracting.
For the same reasons why Stephen King prescribes the basic dialogue tag “said” rather than fancier alternatives like “whispered”, “shouted” or “screeched”, dialogue must be first and foremost easy to read. It must flow like a real conversation – the pace and tone are a lot more important than how specific words are being pronounced by the character.
Focus on what effect the accent has:
Using adjectives to describe their voice in general. Different types of English (American, British, Australian, etc.) will give off a different vibe, also partly dependent on how your character speaks in general:
Lilting: Having a smooth rise and falling quality; sing-song like. Welsh accent is often described as singing.
Posh: from a high social class. This is the term generally used to describe the upper-class British accent.
Nasal: this happens when the sound goes through somebody’s nose when they’re speaking. North American accents are more nasal than, say, British pronunciations.
Brash: harsh, loud, indicative of sounding a little rude.
Slur: speaking indistinctly; words merging into one another.
Using metaphors.
Her voice was cotton and fluffy clouds.
When he spoke, the ‘r’s scratched the insides of his throat.
Mentioning their accent with a brief example(s).
“Would you like to drink some wine?” she said, though her Indian accent gave extra vibration to her ‘w’s and ‘r’s, making the words sound more like ‘vould you like to drrrink some vine’.
“I want some chocolate.” His syllables were choppy and ‘l’s rather flat, saying ‘cho-ko-lit’.
Some Tips:
Don’t phonically spell out everything. Perhaps give a few examples in the beginning, but stick to standard English spellings.
Pay attention to word choice, slang, and colloquialisms.
An Australian person would say “tram”, not “trolley; “runners” instead of “sneakers”
A Canadian may refer to a “fire hall” – what Americans call a firehouse or fire station
If your character comes from a non-Enligsh background:
Use vocabulary from other languages.
“What time was the exam, ah? Two o’clock? Jiayou!” → putting “ah” or “la” at the end of sentences + Jiayou means “break a leg” in Singlish.
“I can’t believe that 4-year-olds have their own SNS accounts now.” → “SNS” is short for “social networking service”, a term used to refer to social media in Korea. This would a subtle difference – even though it isn’t technically Korean at all!
Transpose grammar from different languages.
For example, in French, plural nouns take plural adjectives (whereas in English, you would speak of ‘white cars’, not ‘whites cars’).

Who is This?: Chapter 1
Pairings: Bucky Barnes x reader
Summary: Bucky had a wife during the 40s, she was left heartbroken after the telegram arrived (missing, presumed dead). It's surprising when 80 years later, she was working behind a bar in Madripoor of all places!
Masterlist | Series Masterlist
Bucky followed Sam and Zemo into a loud bar, he immediately wanted to turn around and go home, why had Zemo demanded he go back to being the Winter Soldier (even if it was one night)?
The sound of heavy drums and guitars also deafened his hearing, a song he had come to learn was The Wild Boy by a band called Duran Duran. A few bartenders and waitresses were walking around, there was only one who stuck out to him - a dark-haired young woman who reminded him too much of his departed wife.
His heart breaks even more, thinking of the woman he had left behind, his girl. The love of his life. Bucky doesn't think he will ever 'get over' her.
The way the young woman walked, carrying a tray of empty glasses (before being tossed an empty bottle by a patron), was so similar to the way his girl walked in the hole-in-the-wall diner she worked in.
She wasn't quick enough to duck under the bar before they got to the door leading upstairs (which was coincidentally next to the bar), Zemo was talking to the bouncer. "Excuse me, gentlemen," the young woman said, squeezing between the back of Zemo and the front of Bucky. Which is when he got a good look at her face.
There she was.
His girl. His wife.
He couldn't even say anything to her, as he was taken upstairs and away from his girl. He could only hope he would be allowed back in at the end of the night to see her.
Y/N Barnes made her way behind the bar, glancing up at the TV where the Kansas City Chiefs were currently playing the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium, then down at her phone which showed the live score of the Dodgers game against the San Francisco Giants.
She had been a long-time Dodgers girl, even after she found out they had moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles.
"Did you see the way he was looking at you?" Yasmine asked, pushing a dry Martini in front of a 26-year-old woman.
Y/N looked up from the glasses she was putting in the dishwasher. "Huh? What are you talking about?"
"One of the men who went upstairs. The way he was looking at you," Yasmine fans her hand for dramatic effect. "I would drop my panties for him in a millisecond."
"Like you don't do that every night."
Yasmine rolled her eyes and served the next half-drunk who had come to the bar.
"Don't listen to her," Anastasia told her, rolling her eyes as Yasmine flirted with her current flavour of the week.
"It's not often I do, darling," Y/N replied, fiddling with Anastasia's curls for a second, before spotting a patron. "What can I get for you, darling?"
He hung off the bar, obviously far too drunk to understand what was going on. "Another beer and your phone number," he slurred.
She shook her head, reaching over and grabbing him another beer. As far as the boss of the bar (whoever that was) was concerned unless they were unconscious- why should you stop serving them? Y/N thought it wasn't right, but no matter how often she voiced this - she was shut down.
She set the beer in front of him and then went to the register to add it to his bill (good thing she currently has his credit card behind the bar).
"Oi, sweet cheeks!" He calls, but Y/N doesn't pay attention looking over at Yasmine and Anastasia with a raised eyebrow. "Sweet cheeks! I asked for your number."
Y/N replied by simply raising her hand proudly displaying her engagement and wedding rings to the drunk. It was only a small diamond (given Bucky worked on the docks before he was deployed), and the plain band she inherited from her great-grandmother.
"What's the matter with that 'un?" He hiccups. "He got you costume jewellery or somethin'?"
Y/N shook her head. "I'm going into the back for a moment," she tells Aidan.
Little did the drunk patron know, all those years ago, this was the date she was handed the telegraph - putting in such blunt words. Her James was missing, they presumed him to be dead. It breaks her heart that they never got to have a proper funeral.
"You alright, honey?" Elizabeth (another one of the waitresses) asked, she had been outside on her break. Elizabeth was the only one who knew her true age and about her James.
"It's the day I found out James was missing," Y/N said, before bursting into more tears.
Elizabeth wrapped Y/N up in a hug, everyone oblivious to the fact that Y/N's presumed dead husband was now running through the bar, flocked by Sam and Zemo, and into the alley behind the bar.
When Bucky was sure Zemo, Sam and Sharon were asleep, he slipped out of the safe house and into the night - determined to find out if the woman he saw in the bar was that of his (presumably? should be?) dead wife.
He eventually made his way to the front door of the bar, the bouncers had long since gone home. He could see lights on in the building and just about make out words being spoken thanks to the Super Soldier serum running through his veins.
He grasped the handle and gave it a push, the door hadn't been locked, as it gave beneath the slight push.
He could see three young women sitting on the bar, a man who was counting the money from the register and another man who was dancing.
The young woman sitting closest to the bar, had golden curls hanging around her head. "Mark, you didn't lock the door!"
The man dancing, Mark, looked over at Bucky, eyes widening when he saw the size of Bucky. "I say we just serve him, then lock the door behind him."
As the bartenders and waitress argued amongst themselves, Bucky's eyes never left the woman in the middle. It looked as if she had been crying. "Babydoll?"
The woman stopped giggling, tipping her head back to normal and looked at him, before dropping her glass as tears welled up in her eyes. "James?"
The curly-haired woman gasped, setting her glass down and giving Y/N a push off the bar.
Bucky held his arms out to catch her as her feet landed on the floor. He couldn't stop looking at her big eyes, he'd always loved her big expressive eyes. He always knew how she was feeling by just a look in her eyes.
"James? Is that you?" Her hand came out slowly, and shakily, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing in front of her.
"Hi, babydoll," Bucky smiled, tears starting to fall down his cheeks, a heavy sob held tightly in his chest at the moment in time. As soon as her fingers met his skin, Bucky let out a heavy sigh of relief, reaching over and pulling her into his arms. Y/N's arms dug themselves away from his chest and up around his neck before her hand soon started fiddling with his hair.
The couple stood there for a moment, finally finding their slice of peace. Some came barging into the bar, and the dark-haired woman who had been sitting on the other side of Y/N practically demanded Mark lock the door before the Hounds of Baskerville came in.
Y/N was so happy to finally have her James back in her arms, but there was a whirling sound she couldn't let go. "What's that noise?"
Bucky looked from his wife to his arm and back to his bride. "I'll explain everything to you later, but... I lost my arm, and I now have a prosthetic one," he tells her, letting go of her for a moment so he could take his glove off and show her the black and gold Vibranium one he had made.
"Ok, James. It's a good thing you gave me this," she reached beneath her top and pulled a ring out from beneath, hanging from a chain. "Before you were deployed."
Bucky smiled, cupping her face so he could kiss her. Bucky pulled away chuckling a little. "Babydoll, will you please put my ring back on?"
She reached behind her to unclasp the chain, and slid Bucky's band off, "if it doesn't fit we'll get it resized."
"I don't care what size it is, as long as you put my ring back where it belongs," Bucky almost growled, a piece of him falling back into place with the ring back on his finger.
The next morning - Sam, Zemo and Sharon came into the living room, seeing Bucky sleeping on the sofa (Sam was expecting this, after being told by Steve), however, there was a lump lying next to Bucky they didn't recognise.
Sam slowly makes his way over, gently easing down the thick blanket lying over Bucky and the lump.
Lying there, practically on top of the 'bionic staring machine' was a young woman.
"Did he somehow pick up a girl?" Sam whispered. Sam and Sharon were trying to be quiet - however, Zemo (who didn't care) started clattering around the kitchen, causing Bucky to wake up in a start, which then caused the young woman to look up with tired owl-like eyes.
"What the hell is going on?" Bucky nearly demanded, keeping his arms wrapped around his companion.
Sam raised his eyebrow. "I could ask you the same question, Barnes?" Sam looked at the young woman in Bucky's arms. "Who is this?"
Bucky looked down at her, Sam watched as a smile grew on his face. "This is Y/N. Y/N Barnes. My wife."

Paring: Oliver Quick x Fem!Reader
Word count: 3520
Summary: After your last night with Oliver you question if things were even real, did you want them to be? Or are things better left unsaid.
Warnings: SMUT (ONLY READ IF YOU ARE 18+) unprotected sex, oral sex (male receiving), dub con, drowning (kind of, their in a bath it’s more of like a forced breath play thing no one actually dies), sex in a bath, generally fucked up smut overall again
Read part 1 here (this can be read as a one shot too)
You didn’t wake up until nearing noon, up to this point you didn’t realise that had even been an option. Moments after you realised that something must have woken you up in the first place, there was a light knock on the door from one of the maids, a welcome change to the usual bursting in and blinding you with light pouring in from the freshly opened curtain you thought for a few seconds before she did exactly that.
‘Good morning miss, did you sleep well?’ She questions, her voice cheerful as she opens the curtains letting the sunlight flood into the room. Your eyes still adjusting to the dawn, the memories of last night rushing back into your mind. Your ripped night dress and falling asleep naked must have looked suspicious enough but to add to this you were certain your hair must have been a mess. It was only upon looking down towards yourself to cover up that you found yourself wearing a different night dress, one you can’t remember ever having seen before, your hair felt as if it was tied back and your torn nightwear was nowhere to be found.
‘I slept fabulously, thank you for asking’ you reply, feeling like your speech was slurred from drowsiness.
‘Breakfast is ready downstairs’ she replied before exiting the room, the second the door closed you rushed out of bed and almost sprinted towards the mirror. Was any of it real? You were now dressed where you remember sleeping naked, your hair was tied back and brushed where you remember it being down. Your mirror was against the wall like usual and as much as you may try the damn thing wouldn’t budge an inch. The only thing remaining from the night before was the faint swell between your legs and a suspiciously red mark left around your neck, if it hadn’t been for this you would be questioning if the night previous had been real at all or if you’d finally become so delusional from tiredness that you’d hallucinated the entire thing.
You traveled through your day in a haze, you’d like to say that you hadn’t made an extra effort to seek out Oliver but you had once again wandered into every room, down every hall and through every garden, apparently after everything that had happened he was now conveniently a difficult man to find. Was he ever really there? All of those words he said and everything he did was it actually real? He did seem out of character, the Oliver you knew, albeit very vaguely, would never have come into your room, stripped you naked and fucked you like that. You weren’t even convinced he’d ever actually had sex before last night let alone was as depraved as you’d found him to be. Last night he asked you to come to him at 10pm sharp, to meet him in the bathroom that he and Felix shared, but should you go? If you doubted it was even real in the first place wouldn’t just turning up in their bath seem at the very least a little bit unhinged? You weren’t sure what to make or do with any of it, but if one thing was for certain you were going to find out.
The day hurried by and promptly turned to night, surely you’d see Oliver at dinner you thought to yourself, your little hunt that consumed your day proving fruitless. As always you dressed for dinner, this time opting for a white bias cut silk dress which clung to every curve. It somewhat resembled your torn (and now missing) night dress, the main differences being in the wider straps and being longer in length as the hem delicately brushed the floor.
You tried your best to keep your literal and metaphorical cool through the warm air of the summer night, strolling with ease through the door of the large dining room. Your eyes scanned the room for mere seconds before you found him, sitting silently in his usual seat cross from yours, eating and avoiding eye contact at all costs. Taking your seat the usual chit chat continued around you with food placed elegantly in front of you, your eyes beaming forward burning a hole into the forehead of the man across from you in the hopes that your gaze would force his hand in some way. You’d searched for him all day, where could he have been? He looked almost angry. Summoning up your last ounce of bravery you decided, the only way to fight the bull is to grab him by the horns.
‘So Oliver, how did you sleep?’ You asked loudly across the table, loud enough for the rest of the dinner guests to hear, placing a pause over all the other conversations happening in your vicinity. Out of the corner of your eye you could just about make out the puzzled faces of the rest of the table, everyone now wondering how often they’d actually heard you address each other previously to this.
‘Fine, thank you Y/N’ he replied bluntly, his gaze finally meeting yours. You’d hoped opening up some kind of conversation with him would confirm your beliefs in some way, but instead he just looked angry. Maybe that was conformation enough in itself?
‘I thought I heard something from your side of the house’ you muttered out as the conversations around you slowly begin again. His blue eyes becoming black with anger almost daring you to say more as he sat unspoken.
‘Oh did you now?’ He questions. Definitely daring, you thought to yourself. You felt almost as if you were staring out a wild animal waiting to see just how long it would take for you to blink and for him to attack.
‘Yes, I thought I heard someone walking around near my room coming from your direction’ you continue, one hand playing nervously with the soft fabric of your dress underneath the table as the other shuffles food around your plate with your fork.
‘It’s an old house, all sorts of noises’ he replies, his head tilted slightly to the side as if to work out where you were going with this line of questioning. ‘Why, was there something you needed during the night?’ He ponders. Was he still daring you or was he just as confused about this whole situation as you were? Maybe you really had imagined the whole thing. He wouldn’t be asking you that if he had something to hide surely, you knew Felix had a temper with a hairpin trigger and absolutely no one wanted to provoke that. Or maybe that was exactly the point.
‘Oh no, it’s nothing really. Don’t worry, it just woke me up is all’ you reply, trying your best to sweep this entire conversation under the rug as much as humanly possible. You wanted to shrink away and become one with your chair, hiding in plain sight almost as if to disappear completely into a puddle of your own embarrassment. With a shrug Oliver went back to eating and ignoring you again, occasionally joining in with the others conversations as you pushed your food around your plate, taking anxious mouthfuls until the plate was almost entirely emptied.
‘Please may I be excused? I’m awfully tired’ you asked, your question pointed towards Elsbeth at the head of the table.
‘Of course my darling, sleep well’ she says as you hurry off, granting the room a brief Goodnight and a polite smile before making your way down the corridor.
Despite all of this, at 10pm you found yourself pacing your room, if any of it had been real you were well aware that you were late by now, your pacing only increasing as the clock ticks to 10:01pm, 10:02pm and before you knew it 10:05pm.
‘Fuck it’ you whispered to yourself, heading out of your room and down the corridor in the direction of Oliver’s room. Taking off your shoes to be as quiet as possible, your dress swung at your ankles as you almost stormed your way towards the bathroom, your feet padding cautiously but quickly against the wooden floor.
Finally arriving after what felt like hours of walking you found the bath freshly drawn yet the room suspiciously empty. At least this partially confirmed that you hadn’t manufactured this entire situation in your haze of exhaustion. The lights dimmed to their lowest setting you can barely see into the corners of the room, you make your way over to the mirror to take in your reflection standing in front of the sink. Resting your hands against it you check the room again, still no one to be found or so you thought. Letting out a frustrated sigh you concluded that if someone was watching you, as you hoped they were, you’d give them a show.
Sliding the first silk strap down your shoulder you glide your hand across your chest, down to your shoulder and off of your arm. You follow the same with your other arm, still holding the dress to your body as you take one last look around the room before dropping your dress to the floor the white fabric pooling at your feet, a stark contrast to the darkness of the rest of the room. Your movements continued as you slipped your bra off, once released massaging your own shoulder softly to relieve yourself from the stress of the day. Your hands slipping lower you step out of your white, matching silk panties, the collection of fabrics joining your dress on the floor.
You turn away from the mirror, facing towards the bath, slowly stepping in and submerging your body in the water, the shine of the golden tub reflecting off of your skin. Dipping your hair in the water you look around the room full of hopefulness again, still, finding nothing. He had to be here, you were sure of it and if he wouldn’t come to you of his own free will, you’d make him just like he made you. Your hand begins to travel south, lowering between your legs rubbing soft circles into your clit. You feel the tension release from your body almost immediately as your pace increases, letting out a stream of breathy moans, the sound reverberating off of the tiles. Your eyes fall closed and your face begins to contort with pleasure as you feel your climax rapidly build, your mind replaying the previous night tempting your pleasure to reach its peak.
Just as quickly as your orgasm built, it was ripped away from you harshly. Your eyes still clenched shut in ecstasy you feel your wet hair being grasped firmly, pulling you under in the water. You try to hold your breath as you’re pushed under but the shock of it almost causes you to breathe the water in. Being held there for a couple of seconds your pulled up just as aggressively.
‘You think your such a clever girl, calling me out like that’ he growls, climbing on top of you still dressed in a white shirt and boxers. His body caging you in underneath him he puts his other hand around your face, squishing your jaw so that your mouth falls open, spitting into your mouth before pushing your head under water once more. You wish that you could have kept the taste of him on your tongue for a few seconds more, a thought that crossed your mind very briefly until you were filled with the panic of being drowned once again before being pulled to the surface once more.
‘Tell me why I shouldn’t just drown you now little one? You know that’s been my plan all along, fucking you and feeling you completely submissive underneath me, nothing you can do to stop me’ he growls, grinding his hard cock into the flesh of your thigh. ‘But you had to be a disobedient little whore, just like the rest of your fucking Catton family’ he continues, you open your mouth to reply but just as you breathe in to speak he plunges you under again, this time pulling your up faster, allowing you to cough up water and look up to him in fear. ‘There’s my good girl’ he sneers, this is exactly how he wanted you completely obedient and pliable underneath him. He wanted the power over you, to make you fear him and love him all at once, something that he was very much achieving. Almost as quickly as he had turned on you, his touch became soft almost loving and his words followed suit.
‘You looked so pretty in that dress, almost like an angel. You wear that for me sweetheart?’ He asks, releasing your hair to press one hand against the roll top of the bath near your head while still holding your cheeks softly in his other hand. You were almost wordless, the contrast in his actions totally throwing you off in a way you would have never expected. You thought you’d seen the darkest parts of him last night, but this was like you’d found another cavern in his soul filled with nothing but hatred for you and everyone around you.
‘Y-yes’ you stutter out, still catching your breath from being held under water, your eyes locked on his as he leans in closer, his face almost touching yours.
‘Yes, what?’ He asks, your eyes scanning his face rapidly to give him the answer he craves, the answer you wish with all your heart and mind to give him.
‘Yes.. sir’ you reply, your words coming out shakily, your body trembling in the gradually cooling water.
‘Such a good girl for me’ he says letting go of your face, his hand sliding down your curves, pulling your legs around his hips your heat pressing into his fully hardened length. He got off on drowning you, that was the first thing that sprung to mind when you felt him between your legs, he wanted your submission and my god did he have it. ‘Fuck’ he groans to himself as he grinds into you, it was almost as if he saw you as an object, just there for his ego.. and other things. Pulling his shirt over his head he discards the wet fabric to the floor beside the bath, pushing his boxers down and gliding the thick head of his cock through your folds.
‘Do you want me to fuck you angel? You’ve been such a good girl, you deserve a reward’ he asks as softly as he could in the given situation. You knew he didn’t really care what you said, if you refused he’d still take what he wanted from you but he knew you’d never turn him down not when he was the only person granting you the lustful excitement that you so craved.
‘Please sir, please fuck me’ you ask looking into his eyes in desperation.
‘Ah, that’s not quite good enough little one. Show me how much you want me’ he demands, pulling you up towards him, leaning back on his heels as he kneels in front of you, his hips lifted to your face height. Tentatively you licked down his shaft, your gaze held by his as you take more of him in your mouth. For the first time, he was letting you take control, his hands gripping the sides of the bath firmly, his knuckles whitening as his fists tighten. You knew not to break eye contact from your last time with him, he liked you to look at him, he loved the power it gave him over you as he moaned unashamed above you. Wouldn’t Felix hear? Wouldn’t you be in trouble? You thought. You’d suspected earlier today that this may be exactly what Oliver was betting on but right in this moment you didn’t care, you’d do anything to please him.
Your hands join your mouth wrapped around Oliver’s length, pumping him as his cheeks flush and one of his hands entangle in your hair gripping it and pushing his cock deeper into your mouth. ‘Fuck angel’ he almost whispers, as you feel him throbbing under your grip, he was close and you knew it. Your fists quickened their pace and you sucked his tip a little bit stronger until his eyes left yours, his head falling back against his shoulders as his eyes close and his face contorts in pleasure, pushing his tip right to the back of your throat causing you to choke as he empties himself into your windpipe, fucking your face as he rides out his orgasm. Just as his climax subsides he pulls his still hard length out of your mouth.
‘Open’ he demands, no other words. You thought he wanted to see that you’d swallowed but you hadn’t, his spend trickling out around the corners of your mouth. ‘Jesus, look at you’ his tone mixed between an insult and genuine concern. Just as you tried to swallow his load again, you were stopped feeling his mouth on yours, his tongue exploring your mouth immediately making your kiss a mixture of both of your saliva and his cum emptying your mouth of it as he pushes you back against the bath, wrapping your legs around his hips once more. The image of you like this seeming to have triggered something in him again, he immediately lines his cock up with your entrance and thrusts up into you making you let out a light scream in a mixture pleasure and pain as he splits you open.
His pace was fast, way faster than you expected as the remaining water in the bath splashes over the edges as he fucks you landing on the floor beside the tub. His eyes baring into yours once again he holds you up above the water line, the blood rushing throughout your body almost deafeningly as all of your senses heighten zoning in on Oliver. Your ruined orgasm returning almost as quickly as it left you feel yourself begin to clamp down on him, you know he can feel it, his hips grinding into yours forcing your orgasm from you almost violently.
‘Cum for me’ he asks, his tone almost begging at this point. ‘Let me hear it’ He demands, another contrast with last night, this time he wants to hear you. ‘Let them all hear it, let them know who you belong to, who fucks you like this’ his words faltering as you clamp down on him, riding out your orgasm loudly just ask he asked, the sound bouncing off the walls you were certain that they must have been able to hear you in the next village over let alone just in the house.
‘Fuck, you really are an angel, look at you’ he says, guiding your gaze to the mirrors over the sink to the side of you as you come down from your orgasm, still continuing at his blistering pace. Watching him fuck you was almost other worldly, the way the dim light reflected off of his almost translucent white skin. You could see his length thrust in and out of you as your eyes met his in the mirror. Pulling you out of your post orgasm haze he doubles down on his pace, one hand on the bath above you the other on your hip as his nails dig into your soft skin. Without warning he emptied himself inside you, pressing his lips to yours as he came within you his moans almost as loud as yours had just been.
Regaining your breaths he pulls out of you, sliding behind you in the bath washing your body clean with the remaining water as your back is pushed against his chest. You wanted to say something, to ask him what all of this meant or if it really meant anything to him at all. You knew you had feelings for him, feelings that grew stronger every time something like this happened between you. You had a need, a desperate want to make him happy, to impress him and to make him need you the way you needed him.
‘Did you enjoy your little lie in?’ He asks, some what out of context with the rest of what had just happened.
‘Uh.. yes’ you replied ‘I wasn’t aware the staff would let anyone sleep in after 8am’ you continued with a giggle.
‘That’s because they don’t. I told them to leave you be a little longer after your somewhat strenuous night’ he replies pressing kisses into your neck as he continues to clean you.
‘And they listened to you?’ You asked, partially amazed that the house staff would ever listen to the wishes of anyone other than the core members of the family.
‘They will’ He says, his voice sterner as his actions continue, pulling you in for one last kiss while running his fingers through your hair. ‘Oh they will my angel’ his words ring in your ear as you begin to fall asleep on his chest ignoring the rest of his sentence, you were his angel.

she looked heavenly by the pool today, irresistible to the point where my heart ached. i knew i couldn’t have her, i’ve only been reminding myself everyday for the past 6 years and it’s agonising.
the way the droplets of water fell off her golden skin, the bikini that accentuated her curves, oh so perfectly. and knowing i chose it for her was like the cherry on top of the cake. blue- my favourite colour - and hell she knew it when she bought it, she even told me. “i wonder why you picked this one” i remember her slight giggle after she said it, voice like silk, one that plays in my head at night.
she drags her hand through her hair, shaking it a little to get rid of the water, and boy do i wish it was me doing that. for me to be the one to look after her, to do the small things that weren’t so small to me. her eyes are closed and even though she’s been in the water, her makeup remained flawless - not that she needed it, she was absolutely gorgeous with and without.
she didn’t think this however, always telling me how she wishes she looked like anybody else. if she could only see what i see, just for a second, she’d never think that again. she’s better than any supermodel, the ‘prettiest of girls’ according to society weren’t a touch on her. plus, they didn’t come with her personality- she’s a real life angel and i’ve been blessed with even being in her presence.
i would spend every minute and every hour of my day telling her every little thing i love about her from the colour of her nails to the shape of her lips, i don’t care about the dents in her thighs or the stretch marks on her stomach, she’s perfect.
she’s walking closer to me with an arm outstretched, my eyes landing on the matching tattoo she has with me and i smile. i sometimes forget we had that done, which almost instantly brings me back to reality that she is and always will just be my best friend. i cannot afford to lose someone as special as her which is why i have to push those feelings to the side, as much as we want to be free.
her being so close to me and looking at me with those eyes, dark eyes that could mean so many things, made my cheeks blush the slightest red and i become desperate to hide this. what kind of friend blushes like a crazed guy in love when they look at them? it’s just a look, god.
“you got a towel?” there was that voice again, a voice i wish was in my ear forever. it wasn’t high - pitched nor was it deep, it was just in the middle, soothing. reminds me of the times where she held me whilst i cried, the bestest friend there is. reminds me of when she was so utterly drunk and slurring over her words, what was it again?
 ╭┈┈┈┈╮
“matt” she prods at my arm, waking me up.
“wassup” she frowns looking at my tired state, moving her hand to push hair out of my eyes.
“i’ve got a secret” i frown now, it’s 3am goddamn.
“what’s that”
“you promise you won’t tell anyone?” those little doe eyes drive me crazy, keep looking at me like that and i’ll have an accident.
“i promise” she leans in closer to my ear, her hot breath on my skin.
“i had a dream about you the other day” now i’ve piped up. i don’t care about the time or the sleep in my eyes, she fucking dreamt about me, i’m wide awake.
“oh yeah? good or bad?”
“depends”
“what’d you mean, depends?” once again, driving me crazy. she just knows how to do it.
“well, it depends how you take it.”
“go on.” i’m begging for this now, i need to know what the fuck happened, it’s killing me.
“well, we were doing something,” she twirls my hair in her hand, not looking me in the eyes yet all i can focus on is her and her words. “something best friends don’t do.”
“like what?”
“fucking.”
╰┈┈┈┈╯
held a chokehold over me. every night when i got in to bed i imagined her sleepy self, squirming about in her sheets to the idea of me pounding into her. suddenly i didn’t feel so bad about the hundreds of wet dreams i’ve had ‘bout her, we’re even.
but it only made me more delusional that we could actually be something. she was drunk and it was a dream, i was being dramatic if i thought it was actually something.
“yeah, it’s just there.” i say, pointing to the floor. she bends down to pick it up and i get the best sight of her boobs, pressed against the fabric of her bikini, pushed together ever so slightly. they looked so smooth, so pretty. something i just couldn’t take my eyes off..
“hello? matt?” she swipes her hand in front of my face and i’m so utterly embarrassed, knowing i’d been fixated on her tits. what an assy thing to do, how do i even begin to explain something like that?
“i- uh- i’m sorry! i wasn’t-“ she smiles at me and reaches out to scruff my hair, once again her boobs being directly in my face. is she doing this on purpose? because i’m about to cum in my pants.
“i take it you just really like your choice of bikini, hm?” she laughs, moving the towel to rest it on her hip as she turns around and struts off towards our house. she fucking knows what she does, not just to me but everyone.
i’ve been ignoring the poking in my pants for a while but it’s more prominent then ever now and i need to do something about it or i’m gonna come undone right here right now. it might be pervy but i quite literally cannot be around her when she’s close to naked, my mind travels to the dirtiest of places and to be honest, i’m careless.
if she’s going to act so calm about riling me up like that, then i’m gonna embrace the way she makes me feel. how she makes my cheeks hot and the wet patch that forms in my boxers when she whispers in my ear or now, shoving her boobs in my face.
praying that my jeans cover my painfully obvious hard-on, i quickly walk into the house, making a bee line for my bedroom, desperate to do something about what was happening in my pants.
“you okay, matt?” shes looking at me with a frown, the towel in her hair now as she begins to dry it, still wearing that flattering bikini that is just about to tip me over the edge.
“mhm, i- um, just need to do something.” i look around to see if my brothers are anywhere to be seen, something to distract me from this conversation, i so desperately need to get to that bedroom.
“oh? why’d you look so flustered?” she says with a smug, little smile.
“no reason. i just- i just need a second.” i go to walk away. as much as i would love to stay and talk, right now that is not what i need.
“need my help?”

who did this to you. part 3
🤍🌷 read part 1 here | read part 2 here pre-s4, steve whump, protective (but scared) eddie. now with robin!
The number rings in his head, echoing off the inside of his skull and sinking lower and lower until his heart strings join the symphony that leaves him shaking as the memory of Harrington’s slurred voice is drowned out by the dial tone that feels harrowingly like a flatline right now.
Said I’ll go blind. Or deaf. Or just… die.
Eddie doesn’t really feel like his body belongs to him anymore, or like there’s anything left inside him other than panic and fear and that stupid, stupid shaking that he can’t suppress even as he bites his knuckles. Hard.
The pain helps a little not to startle too much when the dial tone stops and a female voice begins speaking to him. Still he almost drops the phone, cursing under his breath as he pulls his hair to collect himself and get his voice to work.
“H— Hi, hello, Mrs Buckley? This is, uh. I. I’m. A friend of Robin’s, could you, uh—“
“Oh, of course, dear,” the woman says, and Eddie feels his eyes beginning to prick with how nice she sounds even through the phone.
Does she know Steve, too? Would she worry if she knew? Would she curse Eddie for not taking him to the hospital right away? Would she blame him if anything happened?
“I’m sorry? What did you say your name was?” she asks, repeating herself by the sound of it.
He blanks, for a whole five seconds, before he spots a note stuck to the fridge saying Don’t forget to eat, Eddie :-)
“Eddie,” he croaks. “Uh, Eddie Munson.”
“Alright, Eddie Munson, I’ll see if I can grab Robin for you. You have a good day, dear, yes?”
No. “Thanks.”
The hand clenched in his hair pulls tighter and tighter until the tears fall and he can pretend it’s from pain and not from— whatever the fuck is happening.
He waits, phone pressed to his ear with a kind of desperation he’s never really felt, and never wants to feel again. He doesn’t even know what to tell Robin; what to say. It’s not like they ever hang out or have anything to say to each other, so why would she—
“Munson?” Robin’s voice appears on the other end, a little too loud for Eddie’s certain state, and he does drop the phone this time, scrambling to catch it and only making the situation worse as it dangles by his knees.
He drops to the floor, pulling his knees to his chest and reaching for the phone again.
“Hi.”
“What do you want? How’d you even get this number? I swear, if you—“
“It’s Blue. I mean, Steve. Harrington.”
That shuts her right up, and Eddie clenches his eyes shut for a moment, hoping to keep the tremor out of his voice if only he takes a moment to breathe.
The moment stretches. And Robin’s voice is wary and quiet when she speaks again.
“What about Steve.”
Eddie rubs his face, leaving more dirt and grime to fill the tear tracks, and clenches his fist before his mouth.
“Eddie,” Robin demands, dangerous now. Nothing left of the rambling, bubbling mess he knows her to be on the school hallways. “What. About. Steve.”
“He… He’s hurt.”
There’s a bit of a commotion on the other end, before Robin declares, “I’m coming over. You tell me everything.”
“You— I mean, he’s in the hospital with my uncle, so—“
“I am. Coming. Over,” she says, enunciating every word as though she were making a threat. Maybe she is. But the certainty in her voice helps a little, anchors him the same way that Wayne’s calmness did. “And you tell me everything.”
Eddie finds himself nodding along, knowing intuitively that there is nothing that could stop her now. Knowing that he doesn’t want to stop her.
“‘Kay.” It’s a pathetic little sound, all choked up and tiny. She doesn’t comment on it.
One second he hears her determined exhale, the next she’s hung up on him and Eddie is greeted by the flatline again. He lets out a shuddering breath and leans his head back against the wall.
Breathing is hard again, but it’s all he has to do now, all that’s left to do, so he focuses. Inhale. Hold. Exhale. Hold. His lungs are burning and there’s something wrong about the way he pulls in air and keeps it there, desperately latching onto it until the very last second, his exhales more of a gasping cough than calm and controlled.
It takes a while. Longer than it should. But with Harrington’s blood still on his hands, with his heartbeat in his ears so loud he can’t even hear the words Wayne used to say about breathing in through the mouth or the nose or… or something, he—
He’s fine. He’s home. Wayne’s got Blue, and Buckley is on her way, and… He’s fine.
People don’t just die.
They don’t.
He’s fine.
Eventually, Eddie manages to breathe steadily, the air no longer shuddering and his hands no longer shaking. It’s stupid, really, being so worked up over someone he doesn’t even really know. Sure, everyone knows Steve fucking Harrington, and everyone sees Steve fucking Harrington — whether they want it or not. He has a way of drawing eyes toward him even if all he does is walk the halls with his dorky smile and that stupidly charming swagger he’s got going on. Always matching his shoes to his outfit.
Eddie can relate.
Always reaching out to touch the person he’s talking to; clapping their back or shoulder, lightly shoving them in jest, ruffling their hair or chasing them through the halls, moving and holding himself like teenage angst can’t reach him. Like he belongs wherever he goes. Like he’s so, so comfortable in his own skin. Like the clothes he wears aren’t armour but just a part of him; a means of self-expression.
Again, Eddie can relate. He can relate to all of this.
It’s almost like the two of them aren’t so different after all. Just going about it differently.
And now he’s… Bleeding. Slurring his speech. Wheezing his breath. And Eddie feels protective. Eddie feels responsible. Like he should be there, like he should get to know more about him. About Steve. About Blue.
But he can’t. And he won’t. So he gets up with a groan that expresses his frustration and the need to make a sound, to fight the oppressive silence that only encourages his thoughts to run in obsessive little circles, and he hangs up the phone that’s been dangling beside him all this time.
He needs a smoke.
He needs a smoke and a blunt and a drink and for this day to be over and for time to revert and to leave him out of whatever business he stumbled into by opening the door to the boathouse and, apparently, Steve Harrington’s life.
But unfortunately, the universe doesn’t seem to care about what he needs, because just as he steps outside and goes to light his cig, he catches sight of a harried looking Robin Buckley, standing on the pedals of her bike as she kicks them, her hair blowing in the wind to reveal a frown between her brows. A wave of unease overcomes Eddie, an unease he can’t really place. Maybe it’s the set of her jaw, or the tension in her shoulders, or maybe it’s the worry and anger she exudes.
It never occurred to him before that Robin Buckley might not be a person you’d want to set off. And not because of her uncontrollable rambles.
“Munson!” she calls over, carelessly dropping her bike in the driveway and stalking toward him.
Almost as if summoning a shield, Eddie does light the cigarette. Pretends like the smoke can protect him.
She doesn’t stop at the foot of the steps, though, climbs them in two leaps and gets all up in his space with that unwavering look of determination — so unwavering, in fact, that it almost looks like wrath. Cold. Eddie wants to shrink away from it, not at all daring to wonder what could make her look like that upon hearing that Steve’s hurt.
I don’t wanna die, Munson. I never… I didn’t. With the monsters or the torture.
But those are the words of a semi-conscious teenage boy beat to a pulp, they can’t— There’s no way. Eddie misheard him, or Steve was talking about some kind of inside joke, using the wrong terminology with the wrong guy. It happens. It happens when you’re out of it, really! The shit he’s said when he was shot up, canned up, all strung out and high as a kite… He’d be talking of monsters, too, and mean some benign shit.
But the way Harrington looked, none of that was benign. The bruising all over his face, the blood still dripping from the wound by his temple or his nose, the way he held himself, breath rattling in his lungs, or—
“Hey!” Buckley demands his attention, giving him a light shove; just enough to catch his attention, really, and just what he needed to snap out of it. Still the smoke hits his lungs wrong and he coughs up a lung, further cementing his role of the pathetic little guy today.
“Hey,” he says lamely, his voice still croaking as he crushes the half-smoked cigarette under his boot. “Sorry.” He doesn’t know for what. But it feels appropriate.
She shakes her head, rolling her eyes at him as she crosses her arms in front of her chest.
“Tell me,” she says at last, and even though there is a tremor in her voice, she sounds nothing short of demanding. “I want the whole story, and I want it now.”
And so he does. He tells her everything, bidding her inside because he needs the relative safety of the trailer even though the air in here is stuffy and still faintly smells blue. He pours them both some coffee and some tea, because asking what she wants doesn’t feel right in the middle of telling her how he found her supposed best friend beat to shit in the boathouse he went to to forget about the world for a while.
She stills as she listens to him, staring ahead into the middle distance somewhere beneath the floor and the walls, her hands wrapped around the steaming mug of coffee. Eddie stumbles over his words a lot, unsettled by her stillness, her lack of reaction. She doesn’t even react to his fuck-ups. People usually do.
He wants to ask. Where are you right now? What have you seen? What’s on your mind? What the fuck is happening?
But he doesn’t ask, instead he tells her more about Steve. About how he seemed to forget where he was. About the pain he was in. About the smiles nonetheless. The way he reassured Eddie.
That one finally gets a choked little huff from her, somewhere between a sob and a laugh.
“Yeah, that sounds like him alright. He’s such a dingus.”
There is so much affection in her voice as she says it that Eddie can’t help but smile into his mug.
“Dingus?” he asks, hoping for some lightness, hoping to keep it.
But the light fades, and her eyes get distant again. Eddie wants to kick himself.
“Just a stupid little nickname. An insult, really.”
“Oh.” He doesn’t know what to do with that. If he should ask more or if he should say that he has a feeling Steve might appreciate stupid little nicknames. Especially if they’re unique. Especially if they’re for him. But what right does he have to say that now? What knowledge does he have about Steve Harrington that Robin doesn’t?
So he bites his tongue and drinks his coffee, cursing the silence that falls over them as Robin mirrors him, albeit slow and stilted, like she doesn’t know what to do either. Or where to put her limbs.
“Wayne’s got him now. I took him here, after the boathouse, because I didn’t know what to do. He said he didn’t want the hospital, said there’s…” He trails off.
Robin looks at him, her eyes wary but alert. “Said there’s what?”
It’s stupid. Don’t say it.
“Eddie?”
With a sigh, he puts his mug on the counter and stuffs his hands into his pockets. “He said there’s monsters. In the hospital, I mean. He said that.”
Instead of scoffing or at least frowning, Robin clenches her jaw and nods imperceptibly, her eyes going distant again. Eddie blinks, the urge to just fucking ask overcoming him again, but with every passing second he realises that he doesn’t actually want to ask. He doesn’t want to know, let alone find out.
He just… He just wants to go to bed. Forget any of this ever happened. But he can’t do that, so he continues.
“Brought him here and Wayne took one look at him and convinced him he needed a doctor. And, Jesus H Christ, he was right. I’ve never… I mean, those things don’t happen,” he urges, balling his hands into fists even in the confined space of his pockets. “Right? I mean… Shit, man.” He bumps his shoe into the kitchen counter; gently, so as not to startle Buckley out of her fugue like state.
“You’d be surprised,” she rasps, staring into the middle distance again and slowly sinking to the floor. There is a tremor in her shoulders now, barely noticeable, but Eddie knows where to look. Without really thinking about it, he grabs two of his hoodies he’d haphazardly thrown over the kitchen chairs this morning while deciding on his outfit and realising that it was altogether too warm for long sleeves today. But now, right here in this kitchen, the air tinged with blue, they’re both freezing.
Because fear and worry will take all the warmth right from inside of you and leave you freezing even on the hottest day of the year.
She barely looks at him when he holds out his all-black Iron Maiden hoodie to her, freshly washed and all that, but she takes it nonetheless, immediately pulling it on. It’s way too large on her, her hands not showing through the sleeves, her balled fists safe and warm inside the fabric. It would make him smile if only it didn’t highlight her stillness, her faraway stare, and the years he has on her. She’s, what, two years younger than him? Three?
It seems surreal. Everything, everything does.
Robin Buckley in his home, sitting on his kitchen floor, swallowed by a hoodie that is a size too large even for him, but it was the last one they had in the store and he doesn’t mind oversized clothes, can just cut them shorter when the need arises or layer them or declare them comfort sweaters for when he wants to just have his hands not slip through the sleeves on some days. And now Robin is wearing his comfort hoodie because her best friend was bleeding in his car earlier and then on his couch and now in his uncle’s car, and they never even talk, but he knows that Robin’s favourite colour is blue, but not morning hour blue because that makes her sad; only deep, dark blues.
Her favourite colour. Her favourite person.
It’s so fucking surreal.
He drops down beside her, leaving enough space between them so neither of them feels caged, and mirrors her position: knees to his chest, chin on his forearms. Staring ahead.
And silence reigns.
“Your uncle,” she says at last, finally breaking the silence that’s been grating on Eddie’s nerves and looking at him, really looking as she rests her cheek on her forearms crossed over her knees. “Tell me about him.”
There is a gentleness to her voice now despite how hoarse it is. Maybe she’s just tired, too. And scared. At least the shivering has stopped.
Still Eddie frowns, confused as to why she should be breaking the silence to ask about Wayne when everything today has been about Harrington. About Steve. About deep and dark blues.
“Uncle Wayne?” he asks. “Why?”
“Because,” she begins, and sighs deeply, works to get the air back in her lungs. Eddie wants to reach out, but instead he just clenches his fingers a little deeper into the fabric of his hoodie. “My best friend is hurt very badly and the only person with him is your uncle, and I need to know that he’s in good hands. Or I swear to whatever god you may or may not believe in, and granted, it’s probably the latter, but still I swear I’ll give into my arsonist tendencies and burn down this city, starting with your trailer if you don’t tell me that your uncle is a good man who will do anything in his power to make sure that boy gets the help and care he needs. And deserves.”
Her jaw is set and her bottom lip trembles, but it doesn’t take away from the absolute sincerity in her threat.
“So, please,” she continues, her voice breaking just a little bit. “Tell me. Tell me about your uncle.”
Tell me about your favourite person.
Eddie swallows, and mirrors her position once more, so she can see his eyes and know he’s sincere. Because he’s learned something about eyes today, about how much in the world can change if only you have a pair of eyes to look into.
And he nods, looking for somewhere to start. “He’s the best man I know. He’s the best man you’ll ever meet.”
She clings to his eyes. Searches them for the truth, beseeching them not to lie. He lets her.
“Took me in when I was ten, because my dad’s a fuck-up and my mom’s a goner. Took me in again when I was twelve after I ran away. Makes me breakfast and I pretends the dinner I make him is more than edible.” He smiles a little, because how could he not? “He’s my uncle, but still he’s the best parent anyone could wish for. Writes those little notes that he sticks to the fridge, y’know, the one with the smiley face? Tells me to eat, because I forget sometimes. I tell him to drink water, because he forgets. First few years, he’d read to me. And the man’s a shit reader, has some kind of disability I think, and at some point I learned that he wasn’t reading at all. He was telling me stories all the time, conning me into thinking that the books were magic, and that every time I’d try to read the book for myself, the story would change.”
There’s a lump in his throat now, and his eyes sting again. But Robin doesn’t seem to fare any better than him if her wavering smile is any indication.
“There’s no one,” Eddie continues, “who will make you believe in magic quite like uncle Wayne. Or in good things. And d’you wanna know what he told Blue when he said he was scared of going to the hospital?”
Sniffling, Robin shakes her head.
“He said, Okay. Then we do it scared. And all of that after he just… with that patience he has, told him everything that was gonna happen. And that he’d be there with him through it all. That he knew the doc and wouldn’t let anyone else near him, and that there’s no need to be scared at all.”
He sighs, breathes, stills. Swallows, before looking back at Robin.
“So, if there’s one person who’ll make sure that boy gets the help and care he needs and deserves…”
“It’s uncle Wayne,” Robin finishes his sentence, her voice still hoarse, but Eddie likes to think it’s for a different reason now.
“It’s uncle Wayne,” Eddie says, nodding along as he does.
There is something like understanding in Robin’s eyes now, and Eddie hopes it’s enough. Enough to calm the spiking of her nerves, enough to settle the coil of freezing nausea that must reside in the pit of her stomach, enough to let the next breath she takes feel a little more like it’s supposed to be there.
He wants to say something more, wants to reach out and reassure her that everything will be okay, but he can’t know that. He doesn’t feel like it’s entirely true, let alone appropriate right now.
There’s something in Robin’s eyes, in the way she holds herself, like she’s waiting for the other shoe to drop. Like she accepts his words at face value but doesn’t really believe them. Like she’ll only rest when she’s got her best friend back in her arms and hears the story — the whole story — from him.
And Eddie doesn’t fault her, because the thing is, he doesn’t know what happened. Steve said that Hagan came at him, but that’s really all he got out of him before he started talking about death and shit, and Eddie really didn’t want to ask any more questions then.
So they sit there for a while, the silence oppressive and unwelcome, clumsy and awkward; Robin’s mouth opening and closing a lot, like she wants to ask questions but doesn’t dare to ask them — and Eddie doesn’t know if he’s glad about it or not. Doesn’t know if he wants to hear the kind of questions asked with that kind of stare.
It is only after a long while, when Robin’s shoulders start shaking again and she buries deeper into the hoodie and her own spiralling thoughts, that Eddie breaks the silence again, replaying in his head the last moment between him and Steve.
“He’s not gonna break,” he tells her, aiming for gentle and reassuring.
What he doesn’t expect is the minute flinch, the jolt shooting through her body and the pained expression it leaves her with. What he doesn’t expect is what she says next.
“You know,” she begins, her voice as far away as her eyes, and it’s like she doesn’t even know she’s speaking. “Sometimes I wish he would.”
What?
Eddie blinks, swallowing hard.
“Just for, just for a break. Just so he can rest. Let the rest take over for a while.”
That… He doesn’t— What the hell does that even mean?
“Like maybe then the world would… snap back.” She snaps her fingers, just once. This time it’s Eddie who flinches. “And everything bad would disappear. But it won’t. And he won’t.” She swallows. Then quietly, almost inaudible, “He won’t break.”
And the way she says it… It was reassuring before. And now it feels like a burden. A curse.
Who the fuck are you, Steve Harrington? And you, Robin Buckley.
Eddie shudders, knowing he doesn’t want the answer to that anymore. He doesn’t want the questions either. So he buries his face in his hands, closes his eyes, and breathes. The adrenaline has worn off by now, the repeated panicking that added fuse to the fire has ceased now, leaving him worn out and strung out, tired and exhausted. He pulls up the hood, burrowing into the warmth.
And then he stills. His usually twitching, fumbling, fiddling body falling entirely still beside Buckley.
It’s like time stops for a while there, even though Eddie knows that it’s dragging ever on and on. He’s inclined to let it, though. He’s too tired, too exhausted to really care about what time may or may not be doing.
“Why’d you call me?”
It takes a while for Eddie to realise that Robin’s spoken again, asked him a question out loud, the cadence of it different to the endless circles of questions Eddie’s got stuck in his head since the early afternoon tinged in blue against crimson.
He lifts his head, tucking his hands underneath his chin, and looks over at Buckley. Her hair is dishevelled now, her mascara smudged and crusty. Her lipstick is almost all gone, with the way he sees her biting and chewing on her lips.
“I… It seemed like the right thing to do, y’know? He kept repeating your number. In the car, it was like… Sounds dramatic, but it was like his lifeline, almost. Repeated it so often it kinda got stuck.” He shrugs. “Seemed important, too.”
Robin frowns; a careful little thing. “How’d you know it was me?”
“Well, he just talked about you. Y’know. Tell me about your favourite person, I told him, because that’s the thing you gotta do to keep people, like, talking to you. Not shit about what day it is, or what. Just, y’know. Let them talk about things they like. Things they’ll wanna tell you about. ’N’ he talked about you.”
She’s quiet for a while, letting his words sink in. And Eddie wonders if she knew. That she’s his favourite person. If he ever told her. If maybe he took that from him now. It’s a stupid thing to worry about, really; the boy was bloodied and bruised on his couch just an hour ago, there are worse things at hand for Eddie to worry about. But now he wonders if he just spilled some sort of secret. Some sort of love confession.
“Did you, I mean… Are you guys, like, dating? Did I just steal his moment?”
Robin huffs, but it’s more like a smile that needs a little more space in the room, a little more air to really bloom. It’s fond. She shakes her head, her eyes far away again, but closer somehow.
“Nah,” she says, and the smile is in her voice, too. Eddie kind of likes her voice like that. “We’re platonic. Which is something I’d never thought I’d say. Not about Steve Harrington, y’know?”
And the way she drags out his name… Eddie can relate. Like it means something, but like what it means is nowhere close to reality. Nowhere close to what it really means. Nowhere close to Blue.
Robin sighs, the sound more gentle than it should be, and leans her head against the cabinet behind her. “We worked together over summer break. Scoops Ahoy.” Her voice does a funny thing, and her eyes glaze over as she pauses. Eddie waits, his lips tipped up into a little smile, too; to match hers.
“What, the ice cream parlour?”
Robin hums, her smile widening at what Eddie guesses must be memories of chaos and ridiculousness. “I wanted to hate him,” she continues. “But try as I might, he wouldn’t let me. Or, he did. He did let me. Just, it turns out, there’s no use hating Steve Harrington, not when he’s so… So endlessly genuine. There’s nothing to hate, y’know? And then he…”
She stops, her mouth clicking shut as her eyes tear up a little. The Starcourt fire. Eddie remembers the news, remembers the self-satisfied smirk when he’d heard about it, remembers sticking it to the Man and to capitalism and to the idea of malls over supporting your friendly neighbourhood businesses.
Guilt and shame overcome him as he realises that they must have been in there when it happened.
“He saved your life?”
Robin’s eyes snap toward him, wide and caught, and Eddie raises his hands in placation.
“In the fire? Were you there?”
“Y—yeah.” She swallows hard, avoiding his eyes. “The fire. He saved me. Yeah.”
Eddie nods, deciding to drop that topic right there; to lay it on the ground as gently as he can and cover it with bright red colours so he never steps on it ever again.
“He must be your favourite person, too, then, hm?” he steers the conversation back away into safer waters.
“He is,” she says, sure and genuine and true. “It’s just. I don’t think I’ve ever been anyone’s favourite. He has a lot of people who care about him, you know? A lot of people he cares about. Even more numbers memorised in that stupidly smart head of his.” She huffs again, burrowing deeper into Eddie’s hoodie, pulling the sleeves over her hands some more. “It’s stupid, to be so hung up on this. Is it stupid?”
“I don’t think it is,” Eddie says, scooting a little closer to Robin. “Like, I don’t even know that boy, right? But even I know that he’s got some ways to shift your focus or something. Give you a silver lining, or something to take the pain away even when he’s the one who… I don’t know, that’s probably stupid, too.”
“Nah,” Robin says, scooting closer to him, too, until their sides are pressed together and she can lay her head on his shoulder. “It’s not stupid. You’re right; that’s Steve for you. ’S just who he is.”
It is, isn’t it?
You’re so blue, Stevie.
She’ll say something corny when, when you ask her, jus’ to fuck with you. Sunset gold or rose, jus’ to mess with… But is blue.
Blue. ‘S nice.
Yeah. Yeah, he is.
Eddie lets his thoughts roam the endless possibilities and realities that is Steve Harrington, the depths he hides — or won’t hide, maybe, if you know how to ask. Where to look.
Maybe he’ll find out, one of these days. Not about the terrible things that leave him scared of the hospital, not about the horrible things that have him speaking of death and dying like he’s accepted them as a possibility a long time ago.
He swallows hard and shakes off these thoughts, because things like that just. They don’t happen. They don’t happen to blue-smiled boys who trust you to be kind even when they’re beaten straight to hell. And they sure as hell don’t happen when uncle Wayne’s around.
Nothing bad has ever happened when uncle Wayne was around.
And he wants to tell Robin, wants to make that promise. But part of him can’t bear the thought of being wrong. So he keeps his mouth shut and just sits with her, their heads as heavy as their hearts as they wait.
The sun is long gone when the phone above him rings again, spooking and startling them out of their timeless existence.
“Yeah?” he answers, his heart hammering in his chest. “Wayne?”
“Hey, Ed,” Wayne’s voice comes through the phone like a melody. Calm and steady. Robin is scooting closer, and Eddie shifts the phone to accommodate her so they can both listen. Somehow, they ended up holding hands — and holding on hard. “We’re coming home now.”

REBLOG MY WORK! I WORK HARD & IT'S APPRECIATED!!
Music bumped in the room on the other side of the wall that supported the upper cabinet that held your head. The smell of sweat, alcohol and cigarettes filled up the small kitchen to the brim while a few people laughed and chugged the concoction in the punch bowl that sat on the corner countertop.
Other than the patrons drinking themselves into a very horrible morning that was soon to come, there was a couple making out against the fridge. Bothering anyone that wanted to drink something other than what the party host called, 'the ultimate punch to the gut' that the college boys were frothing over.
You decided on something else that you'd scavenged from the liquor cabinet that had been broken into earlier in the night. The liquid a pink color, bubbling from the continued sloshing in your red solo cup that was lazily hanging from your hand.
Your head felt dizzy at all the uproar in the room, the only thing keeping your two feet flat on the ground was the girl in front of you. Chasing your gaze with her head that way with each direction you looked, her eyes weren't far behind to follow.
"I told you I'm done, Ellie. I'm sick of your shit." You slurred slightly, having swayed your hips on far too many people and had too many drinks to care about how you currently sounded.
Or looked for that matter, lipstick smudged across your lips and even had made its way off your mouth. Eye makeup mirroring the appearance of the lower half of your face and all the while your dress was halfway up your thighs from her prying and your continuous attempts to stop yourself from making a decision you'd regret.
"You're a fakeass bitch, y'know that?" You pointed at her, the manicure that she had in fact paid for practically mocking her as she grabbed your hand and pushed it down, holding it in her own.
"Don't be like that, babe." You rolled your eyes at just the sound of her voice, suddenly hearing it and comparing it to the biggest annoyance in the world. "You were like that first, or did you already discard the lap warmer you were entertaining when I walked in?"
Right, the bottle blonde with the bad roots.
"Y/n..." She dragged out your name with that excruciating tone that made you feel like you'd done something bad. "Answer me Ellie."
She opened and closed her mouth for a second, not meeting your eyes before shrugging her shoulders. The black fabric of her long sleeve button up going with, pissing you off even more as the realization set in that she'd worn your favorite of her nice shirts and even undone the top few buttons you always undid for her.
"She's one of Abby's friends, fuck Y/n, I don't even know her name I promise." You scoffed, leaning your head back on the cupboard, looking over at the drunk guys challenging each other to drink a full cup of the punch once again.
"You piss me off." You rubbed your eyes, not caring of the slight burn that your lashes caused on your irises. "I know. C'mon, I said sorry." She said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"You sent me fifty-eight text messages, I don't remember there being a 'sorry' in there though." "Babe-" Ellie stopped when she realized you were in fact not paying any attention to her now, looking out the kitchen window, but it was too dark to actually see anything past the glass.
"C'mon... let's just go home, I'll give you the best apology fucking ever." The alcohol really boosted her confidence as she said this, Ellie moving to kiss up your neck as you thought, her thumb coming to wipe the smeared lipstick away.
"I promise, babe." You wanted to fall against her and give in, just how you wanted when you seen her earlier eye-fucking you from across the room. Fucking hell you were such a gullible mess.
"Ellie..." "Can't tell me you don't miss my fingers..." "Shh!"
You tried covering her mouth but it was no use as she just laughed, looking down at your pretty eyes while you tried to shut her up.
"I don't, mine work just fine, actually." Such fakeness followed those syllables, even you cringed slightly on the inside as you spoke them.
"Huh, so you're lying to me now too?"
"No..." Yes.
"You're a bad liar." She then whispered, impossible to hear her if you had not been so close to her mouth. "You're a dickhead." You then replied, giving her a smile while pulling back.
That was nothing to her, leaning forward despite your unwillingness just earlier, but something about the way you met her lips wondered if you changed your mind.
She tasted like the shitty alcohol mix those dudes were chugging along with soaked in Chapstick and the two combined creating a rush of memories that came trickling back. Those pictures soon invading your mind all the same, fingers wrapping around her belt loops before you got a chance to stop them.
And in the haze of the smoky kitchen you broke your promise to each of your friends promising you wouldn't go back. Tugging her closer and allowing her to rest her hands beneath your ass, holding the backs of your thighs to get impossibly closer.
She was your everything and nothing, the mess stuck between your floorboards that you could never fully get rid of. Ellie knew she wasn't going anywhere, she couldn't and wouldn't be replaced and it was comforting, smirking as she began pushing herself against you and hitting your hips against the counter.
"M'not-" A kiss. "-gonna fuck you-" Another kiss. "-here." You finished, her tongue invading your mouth as soon as the final breath passed your lips. "Why not?" "Seriously?" Ellie rested her forehead against your own, huffing like a child until you tapped her phone that was in her back pocket.
"You can start your apology by buying the ride home, 'kay?"
God, the things she did to see you as you were now, laid back on the bed with your dress pulled up and your head resting against her pillows. Thighs spread all for her while you stared up and watched her unbuckle her belt and unzip her jeans. Wanting nothing more than to have her between your thighs
You just looked so gorgeous in the lamplight, the yellow glow kissing your skin and she moved to kiss it as well. Wanting just as much as the inanimate object had gotten in the past few moments.
"M'gonna be so mad at myself in the morning." You grumbled playfully, Ellie watching you grin at your own prediction, returning the smile while throwing her shirt away and exposing her torso for you to run your eyes over. "But I don't even care." You concluded.
Your nail ran along the light bulge her muscles created on her arms, eyes fluttering shut while her lips made their home on your neck. Jaw becoming her favorite place to hover, smirking against your flesh when you giggled that it had tickled. Looking at the way her boxers met her lower back, little dimples just barely shadowed.
"Ellie?" She pulled back to look at you, cradling your face in her hands.
"Yeah?"
"Unzip me, I wanna feel you."
She didn't have to be told twice, helping you from your dress before tossing it to find the next morning. Your undergarments going with, swept away like they were stolen by the ocean. Your body running against hers as if you were the waves and she were the rocks, though less jagged then you'd like to admit out loud.
Her curves were softer than you remembered despite feeling them just days ago, along with her freckled skin.
"I want you." She whispered, mouth brushing against the shell of your ear.
Your friends were so gonna put you in time out.
Her boxers fell down her legs and yours wrapped around her hips, waiting for the agonizing thumping of your arousal to be put at ease. The discomfort growing while her fingers ran along your nipple, warm breath fanning your face as you both watched her hand run along your boob.
It was like the air paused along with your movements, sucking in a gasp as she played with your breast. Hand trickling down between your legs just to barely tease you.
"You wanna feel me?" You nodded at her question, moving your head up and down again and again while she lined herself up with you. Fingers lightly, just barely, brushing against your little, yet swollen, clit.
"Need to hear you say it again, Y/n."
"I wanna feel you, Ellie."
And before you knew it she was humping herself against you, not even attempting to muffle your sounds which you'd given up caring about. Grabbing at her back and holding her as close to you as possible while her clit bumped and rubbed against your own.
It felt like fireworks, despite having done this just over a million times. Burying your face in her neck while she fucked into you over and over, promising her love silently while whispering things that would make a catholic mother weep.
"Missed you so much..." You turned your head, meeting her eyes as your lips did the same. "Me or this?" You asked, a choked whimper following when she became rougher at the sound of your falsely innocent question. Her hand trapping your leg on the bed as she spread you apart.
"Both, but mainly you." She played off, her other hand softly wrapping around your neck. "I would hope." You giggled, mouth dropping agape as her pace picked up. The whole bed rocking back and forth while simultaneous creaks that were sure to piss off her neighbors for the next however long she spent on top of you.
"Oh fuck, El... fuck please..." You squeezed and clawed at her, sure to leave red marks on her pale skin for her to be teased about when she went to the gym. Cunts grinding back and forth creating a heavenly feeling you just couldn't describe, choking out noise after noise.
"El... m'gonna- fuck I- fuck..." She kissed along the column of your throat, squeezing just the slightest. "I know." From your hole to your bundle of nerves, in your slightly inebriated state it felt like too much.
Sounds you weren't aware you could make falling from your mouth, and you were sure you heard her lightly grunt. Hips stuttering as you'd begun to jerk against her pussy, letting out a yelp while you trickled into your orgasm.
A mix of both you and her dripping down your ass, but it didn't stop you from trying to meet her thrusts. Crying a bit when she slammed you back down, kissing you and then down your chest.
"Leah's gonna be so pissed at me." You huffed, staring up at the ceiling as she peeled herself off of you and fell to the side. Giving you the option of moving to lay with her or finding your way the hell out of here.
"Who cares? Come ride me." She said, sitting up against her pillows that laid against her headboard. "Seriously?' You tilted your head up to glance at her, giving her your best unimpressed expression.
"What? Can't take it back anyway."
This was a bad idea, right?
"Will you eat me out after?" You asked, tilting your head and then rolling over to make your way up to her. "If you do a good job." She said, setting her hands on your hips.
Fuck it, it's fine.

And Yet..
Paring(s): jj maybank x fem!reader
Summary: two people who should be together simply can't find their way. In other words, JJ can't let himself be loved and can't let her go.
Author's note: This one is brutal so prepare yourselves. Realistically, JJ would totally self sabotage any chance of happiness because he can't handle how it makes him feel so that's exactly what this is. Thank you for all the feedback on 3 seconds! If you like when it hurts, then this is for you!
Part 1: Three Seconds
-------------------
He left.
It’d been hours and none of us knew where JJ went, only that he left. While JJ storming off was a normal feat, he always came back.
Now normally, I would have been looking for him, knowing exactly where to look. I’d find him and we’d avoid everyone until he felt like he was ready. This time was different. He never looked at me the way he did today.
A look of pure betrayal.
John B had gone MIA with Sarah while Pope and Kie were handling everything we needed to look for the gold. Me? I was trying to find a way to cope with the sudden JJ sized gap in my life.
It was brutal trying to get through the entire day without collapsing. Everything felt dull. I decided going home and hiding out in my room was the only option. It spared me the looks of concern from our friends and gave me the freedom to cry.
My room felt abnormally empty and cold. My stomach rolled as JJ’s words played in a brutal loop. I crawled into my bed where I curled into myself tightly, hugging my knees to my chest to create some type of pressure.
He’ll come back. He always comes back.
I jolted awake to pounding on my window.
“-wake up. He needs you. It’s bad oh my god it’s really bad.”
Scrambling off the bed, I pushed the curtains aside to see Kie’s panicked face. “Kie, what’s going on?”
Her face filled with relief as she pulled me into her. “We need to get to the chateau now. He’s not making any sense and bought all of this stuff.”
Nausea rolled in my stomach.
“JJ-“
She cuts me off. “He needs you.”
I left the house in seconds, hopped into the Hayward truck and we took off. I nibbled on my nails, glancing at Kiara in the drivers seat. Her face was painted with worry and her leg bopped up and down displaying her nervous energy.
Kie moved one hand from the steering wheel and threaded our hands together, squeezing tightly.
Pulling up to the chateau, I see LED lights tangled up on the trees, shining lights reflecting on the yard. How was there power? The hurricane had taken everything out.
Before I could figure it out, I heard a commotion that drifted up the drive way.
“Where is she? You said Kie was getting her.”
My heart jumped to my throat. I hold onto Kiara tighter as we move toward the raised voices.
Something twisted in my chest as I took in the hot tub and lights suddenly decorating John B’s yard.
JJ is shouting at Pope now, slurring his words slightly, before taking a pull of the champagne he clutched in his hand.
“Look man, she’s here. She’s here, JJ. Calm down.” Pope announced, pointing in our direction, before placing his hands around his head and taking a deep breath.
Awareness ran through me. JJ turned his body to face me, his gaze flicked to mine.
He said nothing yet his eyes said everything. There was an openness that seemed to make him vulnerable.
“You came.”
A tug deep in my chest urged me to move closer. “You asked.”
“Okay, now that she’s here. What did you do, JJ? Where did all this come from?” Pope asked, but we all knew the answer.
“I got a jet going straight in my butt right now. Y’all should get in immediately, ya hear?” JJ laughed, the aviator sunglasses slipping down slightly. His blonde hair slick with water stuck to his forehead as he messily poured champagne into a glass. “Salud!”
Pope let out a noise of disbelief, “How much did this cost?”
“Uh, pretty much all of it.”
I moved around, taking in the inflatable floaties that filled up the yard, while biting the inside of my cheek. He spent all of the money.
“Kie, what? Can’t a man have a little luxury in life?”
I tuned out their arguing. There was a reason he acted out and bought all of this pointless shit but I couldn’t figure out what it was. He knew. He knew he needed to pay for restitution.
A blanket of dread covered my body like an old blanket as the consequences of JJ’s actions finally settled in. Another sense of dread hit when I knew I wouldn’t leave him.
“You could have paid for restitution or better yet, helped us buy supplies.” Pope said, shaking his head in clear frustration.
They weren’t seeing this for what it was. Something was wrong. Yes, he was reckless and rash but like I said before, most of the time he does those things because something happened.
“Okay Pope. Well, I didn’t do that. I got a hot tub for my friends,” JJ choked out, “I got a hot tub for my friends. Screw that, I got a hot tub for my family.”
“JJ, what the hell?” Kie whispered.
Something in her voice made me turn back around quickly and that’s when I saw it.
JJ stood at the center of the hot tub, one hand clutching the champagne bottle while the other hung loosely at his side. His gold necklace moving back and forth shining under the lights, but that’s not what caught my eye.
What caught my eye was the purple and blue bruises that littered his chest and ribs. A high pitched ringing filled my ears as my body felt like it began to float.
This. This was the reason he spent all the money.
My hand covers my mouth as I let out a choked sound.
Hearing the noise, JJ turns to me, his face entirely shattered, tears causing the crystal blue orbs to shine.
“Do you see what I did? Look what I did for you,” He cried out as he held out his arms, staring at me with such vulnerability I could feel my knees start to buckle.
Tears freely began to fall from my face as I took inventory of just how many bruises covered his body.
“No, stop being so emotional. It’s fine, everything’s fine.”
My feet moved on their own accord. Fully dressed, I threw one leg over then the other ignoring the burning from the heat of the water.
He reached for me the moment my body hit the water just as my arms circled around his neck. JJ curled his body into me, the champagne bottle forgotten, his arms circling around my waist digging into my lower back, clutching me like a life line.
My legs knocked together as the adrenaline and helplessness kicked in. I began counting in my head my breaths because I knew in this moment, I couldn’t afford to break down.
Not when he was broken beyond belief.
My fingers threaded themselves into his sun-kissed locks, brushing from the nape of his neck to the top of his head and back again. I pressed my lips onto his head, not letting my grip loosen for one second.
“I love you.” I murmured over and over again as sobs wracked his body, his head in my chest soaking my shirt with his tears. “I got you, it’s okay. I’m here, Jayj.”
I glanced up helplessly and see Pope and Kie staring at us, both of them clearly distraught.
I beckon them over with a nod in my head and instantly JJ and I are covered in warmth. Their arms wrapping around us both, whispering words of love to him.
We stayed like that until our skin got pruny, not wanting to move until he was ready.
When the time did come, I could tell by the way his grip on my waist loosened and his sobs quieted down. Brushing the hair out of his face, I brought my face close to his, “You ready to get out now?”
JJ nodded.
“Kie, can you set out some of John b’s clothes?” I asked her, moving to get out. She nodded and pope followed her inside.
JJ followed closely behind me. His fingers laced with mine, trembling slightly as the night air bit at our soaked bodies.
Shuffling into the chateau, our friends were sprawled out on the couch with Kie strumming away at the ukulele.
“I left the clothes in the spare.” Pope said, his eyes locked on JJ.
I shot him a thankful smile, “Thanks, Pope.”
Once we were in the room, I shut the door as JJ shimmed out of his shorts. Ignoring the heat in my cheeks, I grabbed the towel from the bed and began to dry him.
I could feel his intense gaze on my face the entire time. Biting back a smile, I whispered, “Can I tell you something?”
“Please.”
“I really like the hot tub.”
JJ tilted his head back and let out a surprised laugh. The sound of his familiar laugh caused a wave of warmth to crash over me, causing a zoo of butterflies to swarm my stomach.
“It is a pretty sick tub, isn’t it?” He smiled.
“It is. Very kooky of you.”
He narrowed his red rimmed eyes at me, “Take that back.”
I couldn’t have his my grin even if I tried.
“JJ the kook? I could see that.”
He sends me a cheeky smile in return. Bringing my attention back to the task at hand, I drag the towel along his shoulders before heading towards his chest. My hand stalled slightly as I saw how angry the bruises were, the hue of the purple and blue causing my stomach to churn.
My head moved carefully as I pressed my lips softly along each bruise, fluttering my eyes shut. I feel familiar rough hands tangling themselves in my hair and he lets out a sharp breath.
Opening my eyes, he tilted my head back with his fingers gripped the nape of my neck. A storm brewed in the crystal blue eyes, flicking between every emotion.
His thumb slowly drew my bottom lip down causing his eyes to darken with each passing second,” Thank you.”
Tremors wracked my body at how close we were, our breaths intertwined filtering into my bloodstream.
JJ shifted forward allowing his lips to softly brush mine. The moment my lips parted, he pressed his again almost like he was inhaling my every breath.
Pulling back, he rested his forehead on mine and repeated, “Thank you.”
“I got you. I’ll let you change-“ My words got cut off as he grabbed my arm to stop me in my tracks.
“Stay.”
And so I did.
_______________
I blinked at the alarm clock that read 3 a.m and slowly rubbed the sleepiness from my eyes. I could hear the sound of the skeeters buzzing outside the chateau and felt a strange sense of calm at the quiet.
Reaching toward the other side of the bed , my hands were met with empty cold sheets. He was gone.
I closed my eyes tightly and took in a deep breath as I willed for this nightmare to go away. We still had a lot to work through, but I thought after last night, he finally understood how fucking in deep I was. I was all in, completely and utterly in love with him. It’s always been him.
Pushing my body up, I slowly bring the sheet up to my chest covering my naked body from the cold. A sharp tinge of fear hit my chest as I noticed a presence at the end of the bed that was quickly replaced with an immense sense of relief.
JJ sat on the edge of the bed with his bare back facing me, his elbows on his knees, and head in his hands. A small smile played my lips as I shuffled over, my hands slowly trailing themselves over his shoulders and pressed my lips softly against his shoulder blade.
“Can’t sleep?”
His shoulders tensed the minute my lips touched his body. “I didn’t think you’d still be here.”
Confusion filled every fiber of my being as I finally took him in. I could feel the weak stitches that held my heart together suddenly begin to tear.
I opened my mouth and closed it. The backs of my eyes burned as I stared at the side of his face, the face that I spent hours admiring, that refused to even look at me.
“I thought after last night-“
JJ shook his head in disgust and let out a dry breath, roughly tugging at the messy strands on his head.
“We fucked. It’s not like that’s something we’ve never done before. It doesn’t change anything.”
Like I said before, I understand him. I know him and I know exactly what he’s doing. That doesn’t stop every part of me from feeling like I had just gotten kicked in the chest.
“JJ, please don’t do this.” I inhaled a shaky breath as I clutched the sheer tighter to my chest, almost like it was an armor against his cruel words, words that I knew came from a place of panic. Yet, it hurt just the same.
“Do what,” JJ said, getting up from the bed to face me, arms crossed tightly against his chest. “You made it clear what side you were on and it wasn’t mine.”
“Stop twisting what happened. You forget that I know you, JJ. I know you,” I stood on my shaky feet, the sheets wrapped around my body. “You think I dont know why your treating me this way. You’re dad doesn’t decide who you are.”
Desperation burned in my blood as I once again tried to grasp at straws. He was always finding excuses to run from me and each and every time, JJ took a piece of me with him.
“Shut up. I’m not doing this shit with you.”
“You have no idea how special you are do you? How easy you are to love?” It was an honest question, one that seemed to anger him if the clenching of his fists was any indication.
“Stop-“
I cut him off. “Because you are. Special, I mean.”
JJ said nothing. His gaze met mine, and the blue eyes I thought matched the ocean perfectly, showed a battle of emotions.
I took the opportunity to move closer to him, fighting the urge to curl up and cry at the look of utter confusion on his face.
Luke had successfully beat it into him that he was worthless, useless, and would never amount to anything. This, this look on his face was why I stayed.
He didn’t know. He really didn’t know the effect he had on people, on me.
My fingers trembled slightly as I reached to touch the bracelets that decorated his wrist. All of them being gifts from me.
“You’re fiercely loyal to the people you love. The family that you chose for yourself. It’s almost frustrating how you don’t see it,” I muttered, tilting my head up to search his eyes. “I mean, fuck JJ, you took the fall for Pope because you didn’t want his future to be ruined. You went to jail and now you’re on probation.”
“Please, stop.” His plead was weak at best.
My fingers danced along his jaw, my voice wavering slightly at the tightness in my chest. “You sat with my everyday during summer school so I wouldn’t be myself. No one does that, JJ. Especially not here.”
He had to know I was telling the truth.
“So please, listen to me when I tell you that loving you has been the easy thing I’ve ever done.”
Despite the immense beating my poor heart has taken, it still beats with a naive sense of hope.
Hope that sky rocketed when JJ reached forward to twirl a strand of my hair in between his fingers, almost as though he was memorizing how it felt.
“Such pretty little words.” He hummed. “How many other guys have you told that too?”
I recoiled back in shock.
“Pretty little words won’t get you anywhere. You wanna fuck, I’m down. But that’s not gonna stop me from mackin’ on other chicks.”
Then he dropped the strand of my hair, along with every hope that he could love me.
I chose to then focus on my anger that slowly began to bubble to the surface.
“Like who? Your gonna start mackin’ on Kie?” I launched the question at him, my voice raising an octave in disbelief.
“Maybe. At least she knows when to leave.”
“Stop talking to me like that,” My voice broke at the end, the burning in my eyes getting too hard to ignore. “You’re hurting me.”
All I could do was stare.
Here I stood, heart bleeding, begging a broken boy to love me back. And maybe that wasn’t fair for me to ask, maybe it was too much but a large part of me thought he felt something. Even if it was a fraction of what I felt for him because at least it was something.
Anything.
“You’re never going to let me love you, are you?” I ignored the sharp stab in my stomach as I finally said the question I already knew the answer to.
JJ’s head snapped up in shock at my question. “I never asked for you to love me.”
“You showed up to my window every night because you didn’t want to go home. You hold my hand, you kiss me, you fuck me. You come to me when you can’t fucking sleep. You sleep in my bed. You teach me to surf and take me everywhere with you. You ask for my advice and god forbid I don’t answer the phone, you have a melt down.” I was shouting at that point, my voice loud enough to wake up our friends who were sleeping in the living room but I couldn’t bring myself to care.
“You need me, I’m there. You got arrested, I bail you out. You get in a fight, I clean you up. JJ, you showed up in my life and surrounded me. You’re fucking everywhere. How could you not expect me to fall in love with you when you do these things?”
The laugh I let out was one of a broken girl, one who had completely lost herself in a wave of chaos known as JJ Maybank.
The door was right there. And yet, I couldn't get my feet to move.
“Because I don’t fucking understand it, okay? Because I’ve never had the luxury of someone looking at me the way you do and it makes me physically fucking sick.” JJ took several strides until he was pressed up firmly against me, his fingers threading themselves into the nape of my neck.
“The way you look at me makes me feel like I’m suffocating, don’t you get that? And yet, I can’t fucking thinking straight when you’re not by me.” He choked out, his face was white with panic.
I could feel myself start to crumble at his words. Welcome to the club. “Yesterday, you said I wasn't enough for you.”
JJ nodded, his eyes staring straight into me with such intensity I had to swallow.
“You know why I said it. You know how I get. The way you look at me,” He swears pounding his hand against the wall,” Fuck the way you look at me. You make me feel like I can be a better person, that I have the potential to do something great.”
“Because you can-“
“No I fucking can’t. You give me this hope that I can be better and then something happens to remind me that I can’t and it crushes me. It fucking wrecks me.”
I roughly wiped the tears that blurred my vision and asked, “So what are you saying?”
The silence caused the anticipation of his answer to intensify, making breathing almost impossible.
“Sometimes, being with you is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
Can you hear that? It’s the sound of my heart shattering for the last time.
“Then you have to let me go.”
He shook his head,”Thats not what I want.”
“Let me go, JJ. If not for you, then for me because loving you is the easiest thing I’ve ever done. You haven’t even been able to say it back. You completely own me, every thought I have is about you.”
“You own ME.” JJ shouted, his hands in his hair tugging it in anger. “And it completely terrifies me and then I say the first thing I can to make the fear go away just so I can get a moment of peace. I don’t want to feel like this anymore.”
In a way, I couldn’t really be angry with him.
No one’s every really described just how dangerous loving someone can be. How they consume every part of you until there’s nothing left. Until suddenly, you can only breathe when you’re around them. When your very mood depends on the expression of their face. The pure feeling of ecstasy that covers your body in a layer of electricity the moment you’re around them and they look at you.
“You love me,” At my words, JJ looked almost relieved, like he finally understood why he felt so many things at once,” but you can’t let yourself love me.”
And yet, despite this revelation, I still couldn’t bring myself to leave.
A tortured look passed his face as he pressed his back against the wall and slowly slid down.
“You need to let me go because I love you to the point that I cant bring myself to leave. So if you don’t want me, if you can’t be with me then do this for me. If you don’t, I’m going to keep giving you every piece of me until there’s nothing left. “
I guess you never truly understand until it happens. Until you get physically ill when they’re upset or filled with warmth when you see them tilt their head back and laugh. When you see them and suddenly the world is just a little less overwhelming, bearable even.
When every fiber of your being is tuned into one person.
Gripping the sheet tighter, I moved in between his legs and settle myself on the floor. The moment I did, JJ engulfed me in his embrace. His presence soaked through my skin leaving the intoxicated feeling in its wake.
“I can’t,” He shook his head fervently, “ I can’t do that.”
I understood him, because I couldn’t either.
“What are we going to do, Jayj?”
JJ pressed his face against my throat, “I don’t know.”
We weren’t okay, it didn’t take a genius to figure it out. Nothing had been solved and yet, we sat on the floor wrapped in each others embrace.
So I said the only thing I knew to be true and give him yet another piece of me, “I love you.”
“I know.”
There we were. Two souls irrevocably intertwined in a mass of love and hate that were broken beyond recognition. Neither of us being able to leave the other.
And yet, all I could focus on was his inability to say he loved me back.

Speeding Car - Matt Sturniolo Part 3

Pairing : y/n x Matt Sturniolo
Summary : After six years with your boyfriend Alex, you start to mentally check out. At a UCLA party, Alex reconnects with his childhood friend Emily, who proposes a double date with her boyfriend Matt. Your attraction to Matt grows as he pays you the first real attention you've had in years, sparking a complicated emotional journey.
Warning : MDNI, drinking, slight swearing, unhappy relationship
“Emily just messaged me” Alex said. Suddenly I was all ears. “She said Matt and his brothers are throwing a bit of a party in his place tonight if we’d like to come” A party. In Matt’s house. Matt. I hesitated for a moment before replying with an enthusiastic but a not so enthusiastic yes. It was another excuse to see Matt, and despite my better judgment, I couldn’t resist the pull.
I jumped off the sofa and rushed into our shared bedroom to get ready, making sure I looked better than I did last night. Alex replied to Emily to let her know we would make it there after 9pm and she sent over the address.
Alex drove to Matt’s house, making the decision early that he wasn’t drinking since football practice was starting back on Tuesday. It seemed the place was already buzzing with atmosphere when we got there, we could hear the laughter and music spilling out onto their neighbourhood. Matt’s house was a 3 story, modern build with large windows.
Emily greeted us at the door, a drink already in her hand. "Heyyyyy guys! Come in, come in!" She said, her hands motioning us to walk her way, her words slightly slurred. She wrapped me in a tight hug, then did the same to Alex.
We stepped inside and walked up the stairs. Matt appeared almost immediately, a welcoming smile on his face. "Glad you could make it," He said, his eyes lingering on mine for a fraction of a second longer than necessary. "I want you both to meet my brothers."
He led us through the crowd, introducing us to Nick and Chris. My disbelief when I noticed they all look the same. “He’s a triplet?!” I thought to myself. This made me even more intrigued by him. They stood next to eachother, with the same chiseled features and warm, engaging smiles. Yet, the more I spoke to them, it became clear that while they looked alike, their personalities were distinct. Chris was outgoing and carefree, the life of the party, while Nick was quieter, but god did he have rapid comebacks.
“Do you want me to put your jacket somewhere safe?” Nick asked me. “Uh, yeah sure that’d be great” I replied, giving him a soft smile. “Follow me” Nick gestures to me as we weave through the crowd of people.
We walked up another flight of stairs and and into a room that appears to be Nick’s “You can leave it here on my bedside locker, I would put it in my closet but the rails fell off a few months ago and I don’t want that mother fucker to do it again” Nick exclaims.
I gave him a slight laugh over his closet concerns and placed my jacket down. “Oh what brand is this?” I say picking up one of the several lip balms displayed next to me.
“Oh it’s my brand, Space Camp, you can take one if you like!” Nick gestures. I picked up a pineapple lip balm and put it in my purse. “Good choice, that one is actually Matt’s favourite.”
I felt flustered by the mention of his name, so flustered I couldn’t even get words out, the only response Nick got from me was a shocked nod. We left his room and walked back down the stairs to the main living area. I caught a glance of Matt sitting out on their balcony from the corner of my eye. I walk in his direction and push open the sliding door to step out to join him.
"Are you enjoying your night?" Matt asked as he looked back at me, his voice low as we stood out on the balcony connected to the living room, away from the main group of guests.
"It’s great," I replied, my heart beating faster in his presence, pulling out the chair next to him to sit down. "Your brothers seem really nice, you kept quiet about being a triplet."
"They are," he said, smiling. "We’re extremely close, though we each have our own lives. I think it’s important for us to be all treated like individuals and not as a buy 1 get 2 free type deal" We both laughed in unison at his joke. The sound of the balcony door opening cut the conversation short. “Babe do you want a drink?” asked Alex. Babe? When has he ever called me babe? “Uh yeah that would be great, thank you” I said with slight annoyance in my voice. Realistically, I should be thrilled that he’s even thinking of me right now. I just wish it hadn't been mid conversation with Matt. I tried to focus on him, on our relationship, but my mind kept drifting back to Matt, his kindness, his attention. It was intoxicating, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was on the edge of something I couldn’t control. I stood up and walked back into the party with Alex, leaving Matt alone.
As the party progressed, I noticed a change in Emily's behavior. She drank more and more, her demeanor shifting from affectionate to dismissive at an alarming rate. At one point, she staggered over to us, her face flushed. "Matt, why didn't you bring me another drink? I asked you agessss ago!"
Matt sighed, his patience wearing thin. "I was just about to, Emily. You need to slow down a bit."
"Don't tell me what to do!" she snapped, shoving his shoulder. "Just get me the damn drink."
I watched the exchange, a bit taken back. My heart aching for Matt. He forced a smile, his jaw tight. "Okay, I'll get it."
As he walked away, Emily turned to me, her expression softening slightly. "Men, right? Always sooooo slooooow."
I nodded, exhaling a forced laugh, unsure how to respond. The way she treated Matt was unsettling, a stark contrast to the kind, patient man I had come to admire. When Matt returned with her drink, she barely acknowledged him, turning her attention to a group of friends. I couldn't help but notice more of these small outbursts from that moment on. She snapped at Matt for the smallest things, her words cutting and cruel. He took it all with a resigned patience, but the strain was evident in his eyes. At one point, she spilled her drink on Matt and blamed him, causing a scene that left him visibly embarrassed.
Hours pass and the party was winding down and I could feel the exhaustion setting in. Guests were starting to leave, their laughter fading into the night as they said their goodbyes. I found Matt alone in the kitchen, staring into his drink. I approached cautiously, not wanting to intrude.
"Hey," I said softly. "You okay?"
He looked up, his expression weary. "Yeah, just.. tired, I guess."
"Emily's really drunk," I ventured. "She’s not herself tonight."
He looked at me, his eyes dark and stormy. "Yeah, it’s just... Emily, you know? She can be difficult sometimes."
I nodded, unsure of what to say. "She’s lucky to have you," I finally said. "You’re a really good guy."
"Thanks," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "That means a lot."
For a moment, we stood in silence, the noise of the party a distant hum. I wanted to reach out, to offer more than just words, but I knew the boundaries were still there.
Eventually, we rejoined the party, but the night had lost its luster. Emily continued to drink, her behavior growing more erratic. "I think we should go." Alex said, appearing beside me. He looked concerned, having witnessed Emily's outburst.
"Yeah, I think that's a good idea," I agreed, glancing at Matt one last time.
Alex walked down the stairs to the front door while I followed Nick upstairs to retrieve my jacket.
As I walked back down the stairs to the open living area, I couldn't help but overhear snippets of their conversation. Emily's voice was sharper now, her words laced with irritation.
"Matt, why are you being so boring tonight?" She slurred, swaying slightly. "You’re supposed to be having fun, not sulking in the corner."
"I’m not sulking, Emily. I'm just tired," Matt replied, his tone patient but strained. "And you’ve had a lot to drink. Maybe it’s time to call it a night."
"Don’t tell me what to do," Emily snapped, her eyes flashing with anger. "Just because you’re the host doesn’t mean you get to control everything."
Matt sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "I’m not trying to control you. I just don’t want you to embarrass yourself or get hurt."
Emily rolled her eyes dramatically. "Oh, please. You’re always so worried about appearances. Maybe if you loosened up a bit, people would actually enjoy being around you."
I hovered on the last step of the stairs, not wanting to intrude further. I caught eye contact with Emily, who started to walk toward me with her arms out, stumbling over her own two feet in the process. “Thank you sooooo much for coming” she slurred as she pulled me in for a big hug.
Matt walked me to the front door where Alex was waiting. "Sorry about tonight," he said quietly. "It’s not usually like this."
"Don't apologize," I said, lightly brushing off his arm. "You did nothing wrong."
He gave me a grateful half smile. "Thanks. Drive safe."
As Alex and I left the party, I glanced back at Matt one last time. Our eyes met, and in that brief moment, I felt a connection that was deeper and more profound than anything I had experienced in years. That half smile felt like it slowed down time. It made me wonder if he also felt the same.
a/n: next part you’ll get matts pov for the first time, i’m on holidays in America for the first time so the difference in time zones has me messed up. I’m hoping to get part 4 out in next few days, it is done it just needs a bit of tweaking <3

Wedding Daze (Pt. 1)
Bambi!Wanda x Reader
Why did you and Wanda agree to a one week engagement period? The planning. The venue. The cakes. You could laugh or you could cry.
Luckily all of your friends and family were close by anyway. So it wasn’t a problem with travel or time for you and your amazing doe Wanda.
You and Wanda spent the days leading up to your nuptials finalizing everything. Natasha, your wolf hybrid pal, took the maid of honor duty extremely serious. Well except she also had recently spent a lot of time with your future in law Pietro.
The wedding was less than three days away. You had just finalized a deal with a charity, a media marketing push with Tony, and then picked up the cake with the boys.
You were about to go into your office when Pietro ran up and took a hold of you.
“Listen bratok,” he said so slick and cool, “tonight is the infamous ritual for both parties.”
“The bachelor/bachelorette parties? Piet no stag clubs!”
“Done,” he huffed, “Nattie told me I couldn’t do that. Besides it’s just you, me and the boys”
Billy and Tommy came running up to you excited as could be. “Guys night!!!” They shouted excitedly.
You gave a chuckle and shake of your head.
What you didn’t notice was Wanda, peering out of her own office. She loved that the guys in her life got along so well. And then Natasha came running up and took a hold of her, “come on bride to be”
“Where are we going?”
“To a little night on the town for just us!” The wolf pal responded before letting out a playful little howl.
Wanda, Natasha and Yelena went out to a local karaoke bar. Yelena brought her best friend and Labrador hybrid Kate Bishop with her. Wanda found herself having a blast. Singing along to old karaoke songs and getting a little drunk with friends old and new was amazing to her.
“You have no idea how free I feel right now!” Wanda giggles as she settles down in a booth with her gal pals.
“I think we got an idea, Bambi” Natasha giggles, taking another sip of her drink.
“I think we all know how Natasha feels free” Yelena giggles.
“Shut up, sestra!” Natasha retorts.
“What are Wanda and I missing here?” Kate asks with a drunken giggle.
Yelena smirks, “I saw Pietro sneaking out of her den the last few nights”
Wanda shrieks a little, maybe it was the alcohol or the fact that her best friend was hooking up with her brother.
“What?! Are you kidding me?!” Wanda asks, lightly punching her wolf pal in the arm.
“He treats me right” Natasha gives a little wink.
“Trust me. I can tell” Yelena snorts.
Meanwhile across town, you and Pietro decided to have your stag party at the local bowling alley. Billy and Tommy were having a blast.
“I would’ve hired you a dancer,” Pietro admits, “but you got kids now”
“I’d rather go bowling with you and my boys anyway” you smile.
“Your boys.” Pietro smiles, “I like the sound of that.” He takes a sip of his drink, “thank you for being their poppa”
You give your boys a kiss on their antlers, “that’s my privilege.”
Pietro chuckles, “Wanda chose well”
You give your brother in law a gentle smile. Yeah you considered yourself so blessed that out of all the people in the entire world, Wanda chose you.
The night was beginning to wind down as you got Pietro back to his condo on the sanctuary grounds and got the boys to bed in the comfort of your home.
You couldn’t help but think that in less than twenty four hours you’d be marrying the doe of your dreams. The one who gave you strength to keep going as much as you encouraged her to do the same. Where was your doe anyway?
Your question was answered a second later as you heard your door open. Natasha carried a tipsy Wanda in.
“Your princess awaits you,” Natasha gave you a slurred smile.
“Princess? I’m a queen” Wanda giggles as she falls into your arms.
“Yes you are” you kiss the top of her head, “need a place to stay, Nat?”
“Nope. Kate’s our designated driver”
You look outside and see Kate waving to you and Wanda. Yelena stands next to her, offering you a salute.
“Thanks Nat” you hug your wolf bestie before helping to guide Wanda to your bedroom.
Wanda giggles as she passes her old room, “we’ll have to redecorate that one of these days”
“Why’d that?”
“Cause some day I wanna little teeny baby girl” she slurs her words a little. You let out a little laugh.
You lay Wanda gently down on your bed and grab a couple bottles of water for her. You give her a kiss to the forehead.
“Good night, my doe”
“Good night my buck” she mumbles back. “Until tomorrow”
And with that you grab your pillow and head to the couch.
Tomorrow. You couldn’t help but smile. Tomorrow couldn’t get here fast enough.

Timeless Love part two

“I made a promise didn’t I?”
~~~
True to his word - nearly eighty years later - Bucky got down on one knee by the lake near the tower and asked her to marry him and of course she said yes.
Six months after he proposed, a year after she woke up, Tony had the large room that was normally used for his luxurious parties transformed into a magical, picture perfect wedding venue.
Bucky’s eyes welled up with tears as he watched the love of his long life walk down the aisle towards him, Steve and Sam stood next to him with soft smiles on their lips, Nat and Wanda standing on opposite sides of them with the same expression on their faces, Tony’s arm was wrapped around hers as they walked closer to her happiness.
Their hearts beating as one once they were announced as man and wife, both had tears running down their faces as they shared a passionate kiss.
In the year they’ve been married everything was perfect by day, full of laughter, happiness and love but by night as the compound grows completely silent Bucky would flinch as her cries would wake him up, he knew better than to touch her when she’s having a nightmare since the first time - and only time - he did, she had him pinned faced down on his stomach and his right arm put behind him painfully, his heart had pounded violently against his chest not because he was scared of her but for her, his calming soft voice finally managed to wake her up; for the rest of the night she clung on to him as her tears wet his naked chest.
That night was no different.
He watched in agony as she tossed and turned from her side of the bed, her eyes moving frantically behind her closed eyelids, mumbling quietly but what he could pick up was ‘no’, ‘I’ve been good’, ‘please stop’.
“Doll, sweetheart. Doll come back to me, you’re safe I promise.” He said softly. “Come on my love, wake up.” After over five minutes of him trying to coax her back awake it worked.
“B-Bucky?”
“I’m here darling, you’re okay I promise.” He sat there watching as she came to her senses, hearing her heart beat settle he knew she realised where she was and that she was safe. “C-Can I hold you?”
She doesn’t answer verbally, instead she crawls over towards him and climbs on to his lap and into his welcoming embrace. “I-I’m sorry.”
“Why are you sorry doll?”
“I… I woke you up didn’t I?”
“It’s okay.” Running his fingers up and down her naked back feeling the scars as he does, Bucky places kisses to her forehead and hairline. “Do you want to try and get some more sleep?”
“Can I stay here?”
“Of course my love.” He shifts them both whilst he pulled up the pillows to be behind his back, then grabbing the covers and pulling it over her. “Goodnight doll, I love you.”
“I love you too Buck, please don’t forget that.”
Having a medical degree really came in handy when someone was injured on a mission. Sam had just been shot down out of the sky landing hard on the ground, as Nat and Steve covered Y/n she cut Sam’s suit to get to his side where she made a hole to drain the blood that was filling his lungs. “Steve we need to get him back to the tower and quickly.”
“Let’s move him.”
“Y/n… are-are you carrying me?” Sam’s voice stuttered with a slur.
“I am.”
“I’m never going to live this down.” Nat couldn’t help but laugh and nod in agreement. “Y/n?”
“Yeah?” She replied as she laid him gently on the table in the jet.
“P-please don’t let me die.”
“You’re not going anywhere, I promise.”
Y/n let Steve carry Sam out once they landed back at home just so no one teased him about being carried by a woman who was smaller than him. But it was too late Tony and Bucky teased him the second they were allowed to see him.
“If Y/n didn’t do what she did Sam wouldn’t be here right now.” Helen Cho stated once she had finished giving the team an update on Sam’s condition. “Y/n can I speak to you privately?”
Once they were in an empty room, Y/n grew anxious thinking she did something wrong and that Helen was going to tell Fury which meant Fury would kick her off the team and she would be send to the Raft and she would never see Bucky again and he would move on and forget all about her and she would be alone an-and-
“Y/n breath! Deep breath in, slowly exhale.”
“I-I’m sorry, I-I didn’t mean to hurt him-“
“You saved his life. You did an amazing job and that’s what I want to talk to you about.”
“I’m sorry?”
“I want to offer you a job in the medical bay.”
“Bu-but will Fury allow that?”
“I don’t see what the problem will be, I’ll speak with him but whatever he says just know the offer is still there.”
“I’ll do it, unless he says no.”
When she told Bucky that she was potentially going to be a nurse again he beamed with pride, picking her up and spinning them around, telling her how proud he was of her. Two days later Fury called her into the office he had at the tower to discuss how she would split her time between missions and working in medical bay. Bucky didn’t think it was fair that she would still have to go on missions but she didn’t care, she was just happy she could be a nurse again and help people.
For six months she had been separating her time between missions and working in the medical bay Bucky had to admit that he was missing his wife and he understood that she was busy, but that didn’t mean he didn’t miss her nonetheless.
He had gone down to the med bay to see if he could grab lunch with her, Helen shook her head at him and told him that Y/n had gone up to their apartment, the place he was now standing outside of. Slowly opening the door - just as he and the team did in order not to scare her and send her into a panic attack - he stood leaning against the doorframe and it felt like he had been transported back in time at seeing her sitting at her small desk hunched over it with paperwork in front of her, he couldn’t help but smile.
“I can feel your eyes on me” her whispered voice snapped him out of his memory.
“Are you alright doll?”
“I’m okay just tired, how are- what’s wrong?”
“Stand up.”
“What?” Crossing over to where she was sat he took her hands in his and helped her stand, his eyes squinting as he looked her up and down. “Buck? What… are you doing?”
He gets down on his knees and presses his ear against her stomach, a soft gasp falling from his lips, one hand on her waist the other holding the back of her thigh. A chuckle falls from his lips as he pushes his ear further into her stomach.
“Buck?”
“Doll” he looks up at her with tears glistening his eyes making the blue even brighter. “Baby you’re pregnant.”
“What? I-I can’t- are you sure?”
“There’s a heartbeat! I can hear it! Strong, a very strong heartbeat, doll.”
“We’re… are we having a baby?” Bucky looked up seeing tears fall from her eyes, he nodded with a huge smile on his lips before he goes back to listening to the heartbeat of their unborn baby.
When Helen confirmed that there was indeed a baby in Y/n’s stomach Bucky wrapped his arms around the love of his life and all but took the air out of her lungs by kissing her and telling her how much he loves her.
“I have some more news for you.” Helen’s voice made them pull apart.
“What? Is it okay? Is something wrong?” The panic in Bucky’s voice was clear as his eyes bounced from Y/n’s stomach to Helen.
“Everything is fine, they are both healthy.” She smiles.
“B-Both? As in-“
“Twins?”
“Congratulations James and Y/n, you’re having twins.”
Bucky passed out.
As the months passed by the bigger Y/n’s stomach grew, at seven months pregnant she looked like she was carrying five babies - as she put it. Bucky loved it though. Watching as her belly swelled with not one but two of his babies did something to him, he was already protective of her as it was but now it increased a thousand times over. And now he never let her do anything for herself, if she needed food? He got it, needed a drink? He got it, hell even if she needed to go to the bathroom? He took her.
And when Bucky wasn’t there and on a mission he had someone else running around for her.
“Hey doll, I’m just finishing off my run and I’ll be right home. How are you?“ He panted lightly down the phone, rolling his eyes at Sam as he runs around him in circles.
“I’m okay, my waters broke, how are you?”
“I’m good- wait, what did you just say?” Bucky’s eyes widen hearing her words.
“I’m o-“
“No not that bit, doll did you just say your waters broke?”
“Oh yeah, I’m on my way to Helen now.”
Bucky ran as fast as his legs would carry him back to the compound with Steve and Sam right behind him. His heart was pounding in his chest the closer he got to his world.
“I’m here! They aren’t here yet are they?” He panted as he got around the corner.
“No Buck, not yet.” Sighing a breath of relief that he hadn’t missed the birth of his children, he leaned his head against her shoulder.
Seven hours after her waters broke she was gripping onto Bucky’s and Steve’s - they had asked him to be there after they announced to the team that she was pregnant, Steve cried whilst saying ‘yes’ - hands for dear life as she pushed the first baby out, followed a few minutes by the second baby.
“Boys. Two healthy boys.” Helen beamed as she handed the crying babies to their momma.
*four years later*
Tony had surprised the married couple with giving them their own floor in the tower, it was quickly transformed into a perfect family home for the four of them. Bucky was currently walking through the door that led him to his family, a smile instantly lighting up his face as he heard the excited squeals coming from the twins, no doubt causing chaos.
“Dada!”
“Hey little man.” Picking up his son, placing a kiss on his forehead. “Been good for momma?”
“Yes!” Liar he thought to himself.
“Buck?”
“I’m here doll.” He smiled at hearing his other trouble maker come running towards him.
With his two sons in each arm he walked towards the kitchen where his better half was cooking dinner, his eyes never leaving her form even when the twins wiggled to get out of his arms.
“I can feel your eyes on me.”
“I’m just admiring my view.” Wrapping his arms around her, his hands going straight to her deflated bump - which he missed so much - he places a kiss to her neck. “Where’s my little princess?”
“She’s asleep, but she needs to wake up now so she can sleep through the night.”
“I’ll go and wake up our little grumpy pants.”
As he walks out of the bedroom, he stands in the doorway watching as Y/n gets the boys into their chairs, both of their attention focused on the food in front of them, he smiles softly. His family was completed by the newest addition which he currently had in his arms, their three month old baby girl.
He made a promise so many years ago, a promise he made sure he kept to.
Drive me home | Simon "Ghost" Riley | 1
fem!reader | In this story, a young woman mistakenly texts Simon "Ghost" Riley, thinking he's her Uber driver after a wild night out. Despite his gruff, reserved nature, Simon shows up. Contains fake screenshots with texts messages and calls!!!!
Part two here.
It hadn’t been a bad night—she danced, drank, laughed with her friends... But now, she was alone outside the club, searching for that Uber contact her friend had sent, fingers shaking as she tried to type the number correctly.
She nearly let out a dramatic little cry when she checked the time; it was freezing.
The vibrations of her phone in her hand came like a lifeline in the disorienting haze of neon lights, loud music, and a few too many cocktails. She blinked as a new text popped up from “Uber???” Well, that’s what she had saved him as anyway.
She squinted at the message, trying to process the details in her tipsy state. A mask? What kind of Uber driver wore a mask? She brushed it off, assuming he was just another eccentric in this city full of them. But a masked, mysterious stranger in a black truck? Right now, that sounded way better than the alley she was stuck in. Besides, she could take care of herself. Probably.
And then she saw it—a figure lurking across the street, watching her from the shadows, eyes flicking from her to his phone, and then back again. She swallowed, nerves prickling. She tried to ignore the feeling, but it lingered, crawling up her spine.
Suddenly, her fingers flew across the screen.
No reply.
She clenched her phone tighter, looking up and down the empty street, then glanced back at her screen. She could feel the rising urge to text him again and again, each message tinged with a touch more urgency.
Somewhere miles away, Simon glanced at his phone, his thumb hovering over the steering wheel. He’d put himself through hell and back in countless battlefields, facing down horrors most men would never imagine, but this? Being spammed by a random, drunk girl with a barrage of panicked messages? It was almost… comical.
What am I doing? he thought, irritation flickering under his mask. He was almost 40, practically ancient by some standards, and here he was, playing the knight in black armor for some stranger who probably didn’t even know her own last name right now.
Yet there he was, pressing down harder on the gas pedal.
The next text buzzed as he turned a corner.
The words ignited something in him, a familiar protective instinct that refused to let up. He gritted his teeth, eyes narrowing as he watched the road blur past. When he’d agreed to pick her up, it was because he didn’t trust her to make it home in one piece. He could tell she’d been drinking, and he had no patience for the kinds of creeps that lingered around clubs at this hour. But now…now it felt like a mission.
The final turn brought her into view—a small, unsteady figure with her back against a wall, clutching her phone like it was the only thing keeping her tethered to safety. And standing just a few feet away from her was the guy. Tall, with a slick smile and hands shoved in his pockets, like he had all the time in the world to wait her out.
Simon’s truck screeched to a halt, the dark engine purring like a beast as he glared through the windshield. He didn’t even need to get out; the guy’s eyes widened the moment the headlights hit him, and he took a few steps back, muttering something before disappearing into the shadows.
Simon killed the engine and got out, his towering figure partially hidden by the black mask over his face, and for a second, she stared at him, wide-eyed.
“Uh…Uber?” she said with a drunken giggle, half-nervous, half-relieved.
“Get in,” he muttered, shooting her a look as he opened the passenger door.
She clambered in, her expression melting from shock into something warm, a little playful as she buckled herself up. “Mr. Uber Driver… you’re my hero,” she slurred.
He grunted, barely acknowledging her. “Text me like that again, and I might just leave you next time.”
She smiled, eyes heavy-lidded, safe and sound in the passenger seat of his big, black truck.
Chapter 1
[Next]
It was hard to convince yourself that you weren’t just the slightest bit tipsy as you kept your head lowered and channeled all of your focus into making sure your feet walked in a linear path. How many bars had you gone to again? Four? Five, maybe? Your body swayed slightly with your gait as your mind scrambled to catch up with the last drink that you had. It was only a cocktail, as all your other drinks from your bar crawl were. Was it mango-flavored? What street were you even on now? You blindly followed the two women in front of you whose voices were gleefully mocking the words you had said some hours before the sun had gone down.
“‘I’m not a lightweight, never have been!’” chided Ikkaku, eyes crinkled in a smile as she poked fun at your previous confident statement. She tossed a glance over her shoulder where you walked only a few steps behind.
“I’m not a lightweight! My voice isn’t even slurring yet!” you fought back, increasing your speed to keep pace with your best friends.
“And what was the last drink you had?” Nami asked, pulling her phone out of her bra to check her map.
“A mango margarita,” you confirmed. “With a little lime wedge and a mint leaf for a garnish. The place was called Elgia Lounge and it was on–”
“Okay, okay, you’re not drunk! We surrender!” laughed Ikkaku. “I’m glad you’re not, though, because this next place apparently has some of the best pineapple daiquiris in the entire city.”
Your mouth started watering immediately at the thought. You were always a sucker for sweet cocktails, arguably some of the most dangerous drinks due to the way the tangy, sour mixers completely blocked the taste of any alcohol added. Sometimes, it was impossible to tell if there even was alcohol in the glass, but with the way you walked, there was obviously more than enough from your previous locations. You hadn’t quite passed the threshold into drunk territory yet, but the image of a sweet and tart pineapple daiquiri might just be the thing to completely inebriate you.
Nami stopped dead in her tracks and looked towards the congested buildings immediately to your right side, scanning the signposts in the dark and looking for a specific one. Tucked in between two sports bars, with absolutely zero signage on the graffiti-covered door, the red-head nodded her head toward the unmarked entrance. “This is it.”
“Nami, you’re going to get us killed,” Ikkaku murmured, eyes squinting at the door to spot any indication that this was indeed a speakeasy and not a hidden trap house.
“Am not, I swear this is the place!”
The three of you approached the steel door, Nami confidently being the one to ring the doorbell that was attached to a small intercom system. It took a few breathless moments of mild worry before a voice filled with static came through the speaker.
“Password?”
You and Ikkaku were both blindsided as Nami crossed her arms over her chest and loudly proclaimed, “Suck my big, fat cock.”
Another few seconds of silence followed before the lock on the door clicked open and the same voice from before spoke, “Come in.”
“What the fuck,” you muttered in shock.
“Told you it was legit!” Nami chided with a giggle.
“A place that makes you say, ‘Suck my big, fat cock,’ as a password doesn’t seem very legit to me, but I’ll take your word for it,” Ikkaku mused as she followed Nami through the door and down a flight of stairs only illuminated with blue and pink fluorescent lights.
Graffiti completely covered the entire interior of the stairwell, leaving no part of concrete untouched from colorful ink. Even the ceiling above you was marked in elaborate, incomprehensible swirls and zags of paint of all different colors, made even more colorful in the odd lighting. The stairwell seemed to last forever as you followed your two friends down into the underground, clutching the steel railing for dear life as your tipsy vertigo fought with your ability to walk down a flight of steps. You finally reached the bottom to another door, this time lined with a soft, cushiony leather fabric. Nami pulled open the door and greeted a black-clad man standing in the small room directly behind it.
“IDs,” he grumbled. Straight to the point.
The three of you fumbled through your purses for your driver’s licenses before handing each of them over to the man for a review. He clicked on a pocket flashlight, scanning each card, handing them back to you with a hum. “Enjoy the night, ladies.” His large hand pushed open another door that was hidden in the wall itself.
The room that was opened to you was unlike any of the other bars you had entered, both during your current crawl and in your entire adult life previous. The room was cloaked in a sexy blue and pink lighting, decorative art of pin-up models framed on the walls along with retro-inspired neon signs and liquor branding. Groups of people filled the tables nearby, laughing and drinking through the booming music that flowed freely through the space. It was crowded, almost overwhelmingly so, but you squeezed close to Ikkaku’s back as you pushed your way through the other patrons to get to the bar. Your hand accidentally grabbed Ikkaku’s ass as her shoulder bumped into your breast, both of you wheezing out surprised laughter.
You popped through the stream of people to the bar which was, unsurprisingly, completely filled with every seat taken. Two men worked tirelessly behind the counter, filling shakers with liquor and mixers, bitters and juices. A bin of assorted fruits sat open in front of patrons, allowing the bartenders to grab their garnishes quickly and decorate their glasses with expert precision before passing them off to elated, tipsy customers. You, Nami, and Ikkaku squeezed yourselves into the far corner of the bar, between the counter and a booth of patrons.
“At least we can stand here! It’s a bit crowded but it’ll do for now,” the red-head yelled through the shaking stereo that sat nearby.
One of the two bartenders waved his hand in the air to attract your attention. Long, spikey auburn hair framed a sharp face and crooked nose. You were confused at the angular sunglasses that covered his eyes, but paid no mind in the end. His voice cut through the music, but was clearly worn after a long night of screaming at people because of the volume. “What can I get for you, ladies?”
Nami handed the man her credit card, explaining that she was going to close out after one drink for each of them, which he gladly accepted and placed in a secure box by the register. Your eyes frantically scanned the illuminated menu above the bar, the raunchy, debauched names of the signature cocktails revealing absolutely nothing about their ingredients.
“What the hell is a ‘Fuck Me Sideways?’” you shouted towards your friends.
The man behind the counter cackled. “That’s a pineapple daiquiri! It’s sour as fuck, hence the name!”
Your mind flashed back to your conversation from the street, mouth once again salivating at the thought of the tangy, delicious concoction. “I’ll get that please!”
The man memorized your three orders and immediately got to work. You watched idly as he nudged his coworker’s shoulder and alerted him of the order so he could help with making your drinks. It was then that your eyes trailed to said coworker.
All sound in the room faded into a muffled nothingness as your eyes narrowed on the other bartender, pupils dilating. Toned, tanned arms and hands were littered in elaborate, grungy tattoos, and you could tell with the way his worn t-shirt dipped below his collarbones that he had another large piece on his chest, defining his pectorals even from beneath his clothing. His jawline was sharp, a small goatee defining his chin, black sideburns framing his perfect face as intense, golden eyes focused on his work. His tongue poked out from his thick lips slightly, revealing a tiny glimpse of a stud pierced through the muscle, and giving his intimidating appearance a sudden adorable qualm as long, deft fingers poured shots of liquor into his metal shaker cup.
You barely noticed the fingers snapping in your face.
“Hey, Earth to Apollo! Can you read me?” Ikkaku hollered directly in your ear, shaking you out of your trance.
You jumped in surprise, music fading back into your consciousness as the sound of Nami’s laughter brought you firmly back to reality.
“Looks like someone’s got the hots for the emo bartender over there!” sang the red-head, leaning against the wall and making a very lewd gesture with her hands.
You grumbled. “Do not!”
“Whatever you say, princess,” Ikkaku chuckled in response. “He is pretty cute… if you don’t make a move I might.”
“Don’t you fucking dare,” you growled, making your best friends roar in laughter. A rush of blood filled your face with an embarrassed heat. “He probably already has a partner, a guy as hot as him can’t possibly be single.”
“There’s only one way to find that out, and it’s to talk to him,” lectured Nami. “Come on, you’re on a bar crawl, you’re drunk, you’re hot, your pants make your ass look fucking amazing. I would look the other way if you dragged that hunk to the bathrooms.”
“Nami! Shut up!” you screamed, thoroughly embarrassed now. It’s not like anyone could hear your conversation amongst the intense volume of the room, but the subject matter still made you flush from your tailbone to the crown of your head.
The conversation dissipated into enthusiasm about the location, the three of you taking note of the sex-positive decor and how good the playlist was. Every once in a while, your eyes would dart back to the raven-haired man with his eyebrows furrowed in deep concentration as he filtered a cocktail through the metal strainer and into a slim, iced glass. He reached forward into his box of garnishes, procuring a thin lime wedge and expertly slicing it down the middle to perch it on the rim of the glass. As you were staring at him, his eyes darted up directly meeting yours. Your face flushed red hot with embarrassment, but before you could yank your gaze away, he flashed you a grin that had your legs quivering. He held up the drink. It was your’s.
You pulled away from Nami and Ikkaku who hardly noticed your movement as you approached the bar and reached between two peoples’ shoulders to grab your cocktail from the man who kept his deep, golden eyes on your form the entire time. An elated, cold sweat ran up your spine and you flashed him as good of a smile as you could through your ceaseless embarrassment that he had caught you staring.
Once the drink was in your hands, he tossed you a wink.
You hobbled back toward Nami and Ikkaku who were already holding their own orders, sipping idly through their conversation.
“You look like you got spooked by a ghost or something!” giggled Ikkaku, squeezing your left cheek with her fingers.
“Ikka, that hot emo bartender gave her her daiquiri!” Nami replied for you, making the curly-haired girl gasp in excitement.
“Did he say anything? Did you say anything?” The questions rolled off of her tongue faster than your heart rate.
“He just winked at me, and smiled, I guess,” you stated through nervous breaths.
Your best friends dragged you into the conversation that had developed in the short time you were away getting your drink, but when you tossed another glance over your shoulder, you once again locked with golden eyes that froze your feet to the ground.
—
You weren’t exactly sure how much time had passed over all, but it couldn’t have been more than an hour. You and your friends finished your drinks, closed out your tab, and proceeded to the dance floor to burn off energy under the neon disco lights and pounding music. You let your mind stray away from the bartender’s piercing glare while you moved your hips against Nami’s, the two of you poking fun at Ikkaku from afar as she found herself in an awkward dance with a random man who was far from her type (that is to say: not a woman). The room was dipping slightly around you, the sweet pineapple daiquiri definitely making you tipsier than you wanted to be. You didn’t have to pee at that moment, but you figured it would be worth a shot to sober you up even just slightly. With a nudge against Nami’s shoulder, you pointed to the bathroom, mouthing your intentions, and waved to her as you walked toward the back of the room through the sea of happy, alcohol-fueled patrons.
The bathroom was situated behind the bar past a few rows of small booth tables, and the further you walked from the center of the lounge the more the music faded to a much more tolerable volume. The walls remained lined with graffiti, which you trailed with your eyes as you walked, marveling at the tantalizing swirls of colors and personalized messages and names memorialized forever on the concrete. You finally rounded the corner into the small corridor where the two single bathrooms were found, along with a single broom closet that was kept closed with a padlock. Your feet blindly led you towards one of the bathroom doors that was cracked open.
“You know, those pants make your ass look phenomenal.”
A husky voice stopped you in your tracks. A million thoughts rushed through your mind within an instant. Who was talking to you? Did you get followed to the bathroom? Were you being watched? Were you in danger? Should you have brought your purse with you instead of leaving it with Nami? Were you going to make a run for it?
Fighting against your flight, you turned around to face the voice that cut through the muffled music.
Intense, golden eyes, raven-black hair, and a sly, toothy smirk.
“Sorry if I scared you, I promise I didn’t follow you back here,” he added, his face morphing from a flirtatious, mischievous expression into a more apologetic one. “I had to take a piss, too.”
“Oh, it’s no problem, really!” you replied, inwardly wincing at how your voice involuntarily quivered with excited anxiety. The Hot Emo Bartender was standing in front of you. Had he just complimented your ass? “And, uhm, thank you! For my ass. I mean, for saying I look good. Or, phenomenal, I think?” You pinched your lips shut forcing yourself to cease your drunken rambling, but your reaction only made the man’s mouth curl into a grin as a laugh bubbled out of his throat.
“Go sober up in there, princess, then we’ll talk. I’ll wait for you out here.” The man ended his sentence by entering the second unoccupied bathroom, closing and locking the door behind him.
You quickly did the same. The bathroom had the exact same aesthetic and lighting as the rest of the establishment, the mirror completely covered in graffiti and leaving little room to view your current appearance after you finished your business. You gazed through the dried ink, fixing your hair with your fingers and pushing your boobs into place under your top, blowing an encouraging huff out of your mouth before washing your hands, drying them, and exiting the bathroom into the corridor once more.
The man had indeed waited for you, leaning nonchalantly against the wall with one leg up checking his phone. He was tall, much taller than you, and his legs were long and skinny, complemented beautifully by his tight, bespeckled jeans. The spots were definitely an odd aesthetic choice in your mind, but you couldn’t complain. Somehow, they suited his vibe perfectly. He picked his head up and looked you up and down, that charming, mischievous grin once again returning to his lips.
“Feel better?”
“Absolutely, I didn’t think you’d actually wait out here,” you confirmed. Somehow, your voice had evened out from the anxious drunken stupor you sported before. Maybe pissing out the alcohol did have its merits.
“Good, I wanted to talk to you but needed to see if you were too drunk first. Those pineapple daiquiris are really something,” he explained.
You were very quickly gaining more comfort in his presence, isolated from the club beyond the corridor in the dim lighting that accentuated his cheekbones and gave him the sexiest aura you had ever seen. You swallowed your pounding heart and returned his grin.
“Talk to me? Out of everyone here?” you questioned, putting on your charm.
“I don’t just talk to any random bar patron,” he responded. “In fact, I barely talk to anyone here at all. But how could I pass up such an alluring face?” He stepped across the corridor to you, reaching out a hand that smelled like the generic brand soap in the bathroom. His callouses tickled the fine hairs of your cheek and chin.
“And ass?” you asked innocently, clearly enjoying the little game you two had initiated.
“And ass,” he repeated. “Though…” his eyes trailed up and down your body from his closer angle, eating you up through your clothes. “You’re definitely the most stunning girl I’ve ever seen, all around.” His golden eyes met yours once more. “You have beautiful eyes.”
He had done it now. You were beyond flustered, convinced that your entire body was glowing red and steaming like a geyser from your anticipation and embarrassment at his tender compliments. A part of you still wasn’t convinced that he wasn’t the type to talk up every woman at the bar, but Nami’s words from prior bounced through your skull. You were drunk, you were hot, and damn it, your pants did make your ass look good! You only live once, right?
With alcohol and adrenaline fueled courage you never experienced before, you closed the narrow gap between your bodies and pressed your lips against his, standing on your toes and grasping his shoulders to steady yourself. The anxious voice in your head told you he was going to push you away, call you some horrible slur and leave you in the dust to regret every choice you made leading up to that moment.
You were very pleasantly surprised when his lanky arms looped around your waist, clutching you close to his sturdy form as he moved his lips against yours. You weren’t an expert kisser by any means, but something about the way his mouth moved told you that he wasn’t actually used to doing this, more of a smooth-talker than a do-er. He was reluctant to open his mouth to allocate for your tongue, instead simply pursing and unpursing his lips against yours. The feeling made you pull away, failing to suppress the giggle that followed.
Before you had the chance to make any snide, lighthearted comment, however, a tattooed hand traveled down your arm and gripped your hand, dragging you toward the broom closet. He fiddled with the padlock on the door without letting you go, shoving open the entrance with his shoulder and pulling you inside. The door slammed behind you, now almost completely muffling the music blaring from within the club. The two of you were now free from prying eyes that might wander into the corridor to use the bathroom, completely unaware of the actions taking place just one door away.
In the stark darkness of the closet, the man’s hands found the collar of your shirt and pulled it down as best as he could, encouraging you to slip your arms out and pull it over your head. His lips pecked at your jaw, your chin, your neck, and the dip of your breast as you unhooked your bra and let it flop to the floor. Your own hands grasped his ratty t-shirt and yanked it over his head, its loose fit making undressing his torso much easier. Your fingers now had access to his bare skin, your breath hitching in your throat as you blindly felt around firm abdominal muscles that met a lean yet supple chest and broad shoulders. Even through the lack of light you could tell just how attractive this man was. A smattering of coarse hairs covered his chest and stomach, but for the most part he was well trimmed, save for the patch of hair that you felt at his naval. You heard his breath catch in his throat as your fingers followed the dip of his pelvic bone and trailed along the belt of his jeans.
“Wait,” his airy voice muttered. “I need to know your name.”
You laughed, divulging your information. You felt his lips smile against the skin of your neck.
“I’m Law,” he added.
“Law…” you exhaled his name on your soft, aroused breath. “Can you fuck me, Law?”
A low groan rumbled through Laws throat as his hands now played at your own waistband. “Anything for you, princess.”
the drunkenness scale ✿ k.m.
pairing: katie mccabe x reader, arsenal wfc x reader
summary: celebrations allow your teammates to finally meet 10-drink-y/n.
warning: none, i think :)
word count: 3.3k
a/n: this was a request from anon, i hope you like it <3
1 drink (the normal one)
Booming music mixed with flashing lights and ecstatic shouts filled the room, as the Arsenal girls celebrated their win of the WSL. The dance floor was packed with swaying bodies that slurred the wrong words to every song that was playing.
Across the room, you were sat in a booth along with Leah, Beth, Viv, and Katie. The five of you having arrived not too long ago, you each got your first drinks from the bar, clinking your glasses with elated grins taking over your faces.
Feeling eyes on you, you turned to your right after taking a big gulp of your beer, “What?”
“Oh, nothing,” Katie replied, trying to suppress her sigh and send you a reassuring look, as her mind already went over what would most likely happen during the course of this evening. Don’t get her wrong, she loved you. She really did, but when you started drinking - well let’s just say you could be a handful, and that would be the understatement of the century in Katie’s opinion.
As the booth conversed, the Irish woman decided not to worry about you too much, wanting to celebrate the win and knowing that you wouldn’t really be troublesome until much later into the night.
2 drinks (the ‘funny’ one)
Finishing your second drink, you already felt much lighter, the sight of your happy teammates filling you with delight.
Your face lit up, as a thought crossed your mind, excitedly looking at the girls in the booth, you questioned, “Why didn’t the melons get married?”
Confused looks were thrown your way at the abrupt topic change, the girl next to you realising that they had officially reached two-drink-Y/N.
When you didn’t get an answer you let out a little chuckle, “Because they cantaloupe.”
Viv covered her mouth with her hand after she accidentally let out a little snort, Beth hitting her shoulder, her eyes rolling, “God, that was awful.”
“Oh, don’t worry, I’ve got more,” you said smiling proudly as you put your arms on the table leaning further towards the others, “What’s a funny mountain called?”
Actually finding the display of your horrible jokes amusing, Leah entertained you, “I don’t know.”
“Hill-arious,” you giggled, hitting Katie’s leg as your body shook with laughter.
Ten jokes later, Leah realised her mistake. While tears were escaping the corners of your eyes as your cheeks started aching, the other girls were sipping their drinks with shaking heads, wondering if you’d be done soon.
“You know, I just realised,” hopeful gazes met yours as they thought that you were finally about to tell them something that wasn’t another joke, “I tell dad jokes but I don’t have any kids,” you paused, the hope in the other’s eyes diminishing, “I’m a faux pa,” you cackled.
Groans followed your words, everyone slumping into the booth defeatedly before Beth groaned, “Katie, please do something about that. If I listen to her any longer, my brain will burst.”
Nodding her head, the brunette got up and quickly came back with another drink, setting it down in front of you, “Let’s say goodbye to two-drink-Y/N, everyone!”
3 drinks (the dancey one)
After downing the last sip, you stood up, taking Katie’s hand and eagerly tugging her onto the dance floor, “Let’s dance!”
Sending you a lopsided grin, the slightly tipsy girl followed close behind, already feeling the bass flowing through her body as you two reached your destination.
She couldn’t help but admire your dancing form. The way you carelessly moved your body with a bright smile on your face, the strobing lights giving you an ethereal glow.
Almost taking you straight home when you started grinding your ass into her, she tried to control herself in front of her teammates, wrapping her arms around your waist and pressing light kisses against your neck.
As soon as you heard the beginning of Dua Lipa’s ‘Dance The Night’ you pulled away from her with a gasp and prepared for your rehearsed dance moves. With the way you constantly talked about the movie, it was no surprise to Katie when you started doing the dance from ‘Barbie’.
Finishing your choreography with a playful bow after not missing a single step, you turned to your girlfriend breathlessly, “Whew,” you blew a strand of hair that landed in your eye away, “dancing makes you thirsty.”
4 drinks (the philosophical one)
Needing a moment to catch your breath after your (in your opinion incredible) performance, you took a seat next to Alessia, who was chatting animatedly with Lotte.
Katie pressed a kiss to your cheek, telling you she’d hang out with Leah for a bit before you watched her walk across the room. Turning your head back to the two girls in front of you, who had seemingly finished their conversation, you scooted your chair closer.
“I’ve always wondered why we use toothpaste that dentists recommend when they make their money from bad teeth,” you tell them conspiratorially.
Feeling like her eyes had been opened, an intoxicated Alessia exclaimed, “Oh my god, you’re totally right!” leaning down towards the table she motioned you to come down to her level before whispering, which was actually just her normal speaking voice with a bit more breath, “They probably put really bad stuff in there so we have to come back again.”
Nodding your head frantically, you whispered back, “Exactly,” when you suddenly had an idea and gasped, “We could blackmail all the dentists in the world with this and get a ton of money!”
“We’re geniuses,” the blonde proclaimed, raising her hand for a high five, before whispering again, ignoring the laughter coming from Lotte, “We should probably discuss our master plan in private cause there are too many people here that could steal our idea.”
Agreeing with the girl, you replied, “Yeah, you’re right, we need to talk about something else now, we’re already being way too suspicious!”
Both of them sat upright again, pretending as if nothing happened, searching for a topic they could talk about as the brunette shot them an amused glance.
“Hm, I just thought, like, if a pregnant woman goes underwater, is she like a human submarine?” you questioned with furrowed eyebrows, Lotte choking on her wine at your words.
Letting the questions run through her brain for a moment, the blonde stated, “That’s a great question! I think we’d need the definition of a submarine for that,” Alessia pondered with a finger on her chin, “Wait a second, I’ll google it.”
Taking her phone out of her pocket, she opened Safari and was about to type in her question, when she suddenly stopped, forgetting what she was about to do. She thought about it for a moment before her train of thought was interrupted by another declaration from you, “I don’t understand how cows are that calm.”
This time, Lotte immersed herself in this absurd conversation between you two, “What do you mean?”
“Well, if the whole floor was food, I’d be the happiest woman alive!”
Puffing out a breath of air, the brunette held her forehead, being done with your bizarre thoughts, as she got up, “I think it’s time for five-drink-Y/N now.”
5 drinks (the confident one)
Downing the shot Lotte had given you, you strutted over to your girlfriend, who was in the middle of a very intense game of beer pong with her blonde friend.
When you finally reached her, you threw your arms around her neck, pressing a sloppy kiss to her cheek as you whispered in her ear, “Missed me, baby?”
You only got a distracted ‘mhm’ as a response and turned your attention to the thing that had captured your girlfriend’s, only now seeing the ongoing game, “Oh, can I play? I literally won’t miss a single shot, trust me.”
Not even waiting for permission, you took the ball out of Katie’s hand and closed one eye, trying to find the right angle before throwing it.
“In your face,” you shouted as the ball landed in the red plastic cup and you jumped up and down, your exuberant celebration making Leah think that you had just won the World Cup.
When the blonde missed and looked up to find your pouting face with the words ‘aw tough luck’ directed towards her, her eyes rolled into the back of her head, Katie just shaking her head.
Your ball flying perfectly into the cup again and the defender missing once more rewarded her with more of your wise words, “Don’t be sad, pookie bear. I bet I could play against every person in this room and kick every single one of their asses.”
The blonde grumbled under her breath, throwing another ball and finally hitting the inside of the cup, as you noticed Beth finishing her interesting rendition of Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’, the only words actually understandable being ‘mom’s spaghetti’, and abruptly exclaimed, “Oh my god, Katie let’s do karaoke! I’m gonna end you with my heavenly riffs.”
Knowing she wouldn’t be able to talk you out of it, the brunette sighed amusedly before nudging the blue cup into your hands, “All right then, you need to drink this first though.”
6 drinks (the sad one)
You pulled your girlfriend along with you, as you made your way onto the stage, leaving her in the middle of it while you went to pick out a song, your eyes lighting up as you chose one.
Handing Katie the second mic, the first few notes started playing, making you squeal delightedly as the Irish woman face palmed.
“You’re insecure,” you hollered into the mic, pointing to the girl next to you, waiting for her to finish the line. She begrudgingly uttered, “Don’t know what for,” as the other girls started screaming the lyrics along with you.
Dancing around the stage with your favourite girl, whose face lit up with a smile while singing with you, you had the time of your life. When you reached the chorus though, things took an astronomical turn, as your grin faded and your voice began quivering.
“The way that you,” you took a staggering breath as tears filled your eyes, “get- gets me overwhelmed,” you struggled to get out when a sob broke through.
Katie’s eyes widened, she stopped singing (most of the crowd being too inebriated to notice that they were the only ones continuing) and turned to you, wrapping her arms around your waist to get you to face her, “What’s wrong, love?”
“I just…,” tears streaming down your face and inhaling a big, shaky breath interrupted your cries, “I just realised that if they get back together, they’ll be old and wrinkly and grey and I’ve never seen them live and then I’ll always remember them as these crinkly grandpas,” you sank down to the ground, your whining never stopping as Katie tried to calm you down.
“Hey, I’m sure there’ll be a reunion soon and you’ll get to see One Direction in their prime time,” she rubbed a comforting hand down your back, hoping to ease your sobs.
That only seemed to make it worse, as your hand shot up in front of your mouth while gasping and letting out an even bigger wail, “There won’t even be a reunion! They said- they- they said it’d be an 18-month-long break but it’s been 7 years now!”
Dropping her head in defeat, the Irish woman tried to figure out how to calm you down, not knowing how to help you. When she heard the song still playing in the background, an idea popped into her head as she cupped your face, slowly rubbing her thumb along your cheekbones and handing you the mic with her other hand, “Maybe you can convince them to get back together with your amazing voice, honey.”
Your breathing slowly turned back to normal, almost causing Katie to punch the air. She smiled at you when you got back onto your feet and nudged your shoulder gently, “Oh, isn’t Niall’s part coming up? He was always your favourite, wasn’t he?”
The brunette’s body went frigid with alarm as your head sank to her shoulder, your cries filling the air once again. After she felt something wet hit her skin, she wanted to cry herself, exasperated that her victory only lasted a few seconds.
“He doesn’t even have a part in this song,” you wept into the crook of her neck, your left hand tightly gripping her shirt as the tears continued streaming down your face, “They were all so mean to him! Those pigs always said that he couldn’t sing and, and wouldn’t give him any lines in, in the songs. But the worst thing was that they,” you paused to take in a trembling breath, much like an outraged child crying over not getting a toy at the store, “they turned off his mic during the concerts!”
Katie didn’t know how else to help herself, so she picked you up and carried you towards a free table, muttering about how proud of Niall you were for not letting them bring him down and starting his own amazing career accompanying her.
Grabbing a random shot that stood on the table, you raised it with a ‘To my second Irish spouse’ before shooting the liquid down your throat, making Katie choke on her spit.
7 drinks (the multilingual one)
Feeling a pair of arms around her waist, Katie looked to the left to be met with your dopey smile, “Bonjour Mademoiselle.”
Across from her, impressed looks were sent your way, “Wow, I didn’t know you could speak French,” stated Steph.
“Oui oui, baguette bouquet de camouflage duvet et french fries,” you confidently retorted, fully convinced you’d just said a sentence in French.
Hearing the snorts coming from both Steph and Katie, you frowned and crossed your arms, “I actually know Spanish though!”
“Oh, really? Knock us out then,” the Aussie motioned to you with her glass and an amused grin.
You puffed out your chest, standing taller before clearing your throat and starting, “Putellas es guijarro mucho bonmati gracias! Qué bien, no?”
Steph realised too late that she shouldn’t have taken a sip before you started, as her drink went down the wrong way, Katie slapping her back gently as she chuckled, “Honey, now you’re just naming Spanish football players.”
You stomped your feet, not believing how they couldn’t appreciate your (in your words) multilingualness as their laughter reached your ears.
8 drinks (the confused one)
While Katie knew it wasn’t a good idea when Alessia pulled you from your seat, stating that you just had to take shots with her, she was glad she didn’t stop her when she was able to witness this truly hilarious scene.
Watching you from her spot next to Leah, she had a clear view of the two of you as you ordered two shots of tequila, already having slices of lime in hand and the salt on the counter.
When the bartender put the drinks in front of you, the two of you sent him an intoxicated smile and got to work. While Alessia was able to go through the procedure as usual, you took a different approach.
The Irish woman’s eyes widened when you rubbed the lime on the back of your hand before you poured a bit of the tequila over it and licked your hand. She couldn’t hold in her laughter as you bit into the lime, downed the shot and then bit into it again.
“Jesus, she’s hammered,” chuckled Leah from beside her. The brunette just shook her head, got up and walked towards you, pulling your stumbling form towards her previous seat.
“You’ve had a bit to drink tonight, haven’t you?” questioned the blonde teasingly as you two reached her, making you shake your head.
“’m not even drunk,” you declared, trying to stop yourself from slurring your words.
Reaching into her pocket and taking out her phone, Leah turned it towards you, “Can you tell the time?”
You frowned a bit, finding her request weird before you shrugged your shoulders and put your arms on the table, leaning forward until your nose was touching her phone screen, “I’m not drunk.”
Cackles roared from the girls around you, as Leah hit the table, tears escaping the corners of her eyes while Katie rolled her eyes, trying to stop her chuckles as you shrugged, not understanding what they were laughing about, and downed the rest of your girlfriend’s beer.
9 drinks (the clumsy one)
9-drink-Y/N had always been the last one of the night, seeing as she wasn’t even able to drink anything.
Tonight though, Caitlin wouldn’t stop until she got you to drink one more beverage, wanting to use this special night as a debut for 10-drink-Y/N.
She had to admit that it wasn’t as easy as she thought it’d be. She already struggled with getting you to sit down somewhere as you tripped over your own feet every two steps, so she didn’t know how she’d be able to get you to drink something.
But when you finally sat down (after missing the chair multiple times) she had hope again.
Quickly fetching a beer, she sat down next to you, handing you the bottle. She watched as you raised it to your lips, the excited smile on her face only getting bigger.
Then you tipped the bottle and instead of the liquid going into your mouth, it went straight onto the table, not even touching your skin.
Caitlin jumped and hastily turned the beer upright again before helping you and calling out triumphantly when you took a few sips, “Guys, I did it! We’re gonna see 10-drink-Y/N!”
10 drinks (the flirty one)
Katie hurriedly strode over to you wanting to witness 10-drink-Y/N be there for her girlfriend as almost the whole team gathered around you, curiously watching your every move.
When you felt the warm body next to you, you turned to her and started playing with her hair before you spoke, “You must be the reason for global warming cause you’re hot.”
The Irish woman swatted your hand which was messing up her hair as she registered your slurred words, rolling her eyes when chatter about what they were expecting you to act like broke out between her teammates.
You didn’t care though and leaned towards Katie again, “I’m not into watching sunsets,” you paused for a second, a frown forming on your face as you rushed out in a whisper, “Actually, I am but just pretend I’m not so I can impress you with my amazing flirting skills.”
“So, I’m not into watching sunsets, but I’d love to see you go down,” you declared, trying to send her a wink, but actually just blinking slowly.
Your girlfriend laughed, thinking you would just continue to tell her horrible pickup lines.
After a while, she realised that she had underestimated 10-drink-Y/N. You started nibbling on her neck and trailing your hand up and down her thigh, making her squirm in her seat.
Katie stood up to go to the restroom when you grabbed her arm and turned her around, “Did you sit in a pile of sugar?”
Her eyebrows furrowed at your question but then her eyes widened as you continued, “Cause you have a pretty sweet ass!”
Accompanying your words with a squeeze of her ass, you sent her another wink blink.
Knowing that if you continued this, your teammates would be scarred for life, Katie quickly called a cab and made sure to carry you from your seat to the taxi and from the taxi to your bed, wanting to avoid any more trouble with your inebriated self.
Masterlist
Chapter 1
Somewhere after the second hour, Alicent called Criston Cole, her new husband, to bring over blankets, books and Aegon’s Nintendo Switch. He had work later that evening so he wasn’t able to stay. Between the books and the game console, you, Helaena, and Aegon were thoroughly distracted. Cozied up in your blankets, you passed the time talking, reading, and watching Aegon play his game. The hardest thing for Aegon was to watch his mouth. Alicent chastised him when he swore the first time.
Two hours passed. Then three. Then four.
“Ughhh what's taking so long?” Aegon complained.
“The doctors said they had to go in and do an emergency surgery since it was his eye that got cut,” explained Alicent. “I don't know exactly how long the surgery is going to take but I don't want to leave. I'm sure Criston wouldn't mind picking you up and taking you home. We've been here a long time.”
Aegon twiddled his thumbs. “No, it's okay. I wanna stay here.”
“You can always take a nap,” Alicent offered to her son.
He shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe.” He looked over at you and Helaena. “Do you want to go home?”
You shook your head. “Absolutely not. I'm waiting for Aemond.”
“I'd like to stay, too,” said Helaena.
Alicent nodded her head as she looked at all of you. “It's settled then. We'll stay here.”
Four hours later, Alicent was called to the back to get Aemond. She rolled him out on a wheelchair and brought him to you, Helaena, and Aegon. Even though the white gauze over his left eye covered most of the stitches, you could still see a few poking out.
“Hey, brother,” Aegon was the first to approach him. “How are you feeling?”
“I feel weird,” Aemond slurred out.
Alicent put a hand on Aemond’s shoulder. “The anesthesia is still in his system so he's not feeling one hundred percent.”
“Luke cut me, mother,” Aemond whispered.
Alicent tried to hold back her sob but you heard it. You still couldn't believe that Luke cut him like that. No one was actually supposed to get really hurt. A few bruises here and there maybe. A small cut and a splinter, too. Surgery, though? That never should have happened.
“It's my fault,” Aegon croaked out. There were silent tears streaming down his face. “I was the one who suggested we play stick fight.”
“No, it's not your fault, Aegon,” you tried to reassure him. “It was Luke. All the blame is on him.”
“I hate them,” whispered Helaena. “I'll never forgive them.”
Alicent stepped in. “Now, now. Let's wait until we get home to talk about this. We shouldn't be discussing this here.”
The three of you nodded while Aemond still sat there quietly. Alicent rolled out Aemond in front of the rest of you while you all followed behind. When you got to the car, you and Aegon helped Alicent get Aemond out of the wheelchair and into the car.
“I'll be right back. I need to return this,” said Alicent.
For a few moments it was just you and your best friends in the car.
“I'll get them back one day, brother,” Aegon told you all.
“And I will never love them,” you added. “No one hurts my friends.”
All Aemond could do was hum. His head lolled slightly to the side as he listened to the three of you talk. Slowly, he pulled down the sun visor and opened it to reveal the small mirror. He used it to look at you guys and smile every now and then since he couldn't turn around to quite hold a conversation.
When Alicent returned to the car, silence fell amongst you all. It was a tense ride back to the house. You all knew that the ones to blame were Luke and Jace but you couldn't help but feel somewhat responsible. Guilt settled in your stomach. Maybe if you had a better relationship with your brothers everything would be fine. Maybe if you weren’t so close to Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond he wouldn't have gotten hurt.
When you arrived at the house, all of you piled out to help Aemond. He was still woozy from the anesthesia and couldn't walk straight. Carefully, the group of you led him to his room. After Alicent tucked him in, each of you wished him goodnight.
“Can I stay here?” You asked Alicent once you were back in the living room. The implication you'd stay with them forever. You were curled up next to her. She had always been a mother figure for you.
“I'm not so sure, sweetie,” she admitted.
“Can I at least stay the night?”
Alicent sighed and gave you a small squeeze. “Yes, but you have to go back tomorrow. I'm not going to steal you from your parents.”
“They wouldn’t notice if you did.”
“I think they'd take legal action, sweetie.”
“That's stupid. They don't even care about me.”
“Don't say that,” Alicent tucked a stray hair behind your ear. “They do love and care for you, just in their own way.”
You sighed, not wanting to fight. “Okay.”
“Come, let's get you tucked in for bed. I’ll get your extra clothes.”
Alicent helped you get up from the couch and gave you a quick hug before going to get your things. Because you spent a lot of time here, Alicent asked your mother to send over extra clothes. It took a while for her to bring them but she did so eventually.
“Mrs. Alicent?” You asked her as she brought in your clothes into the extra room you were sleeping in. “Do you know why my mother treats me like this?”
“She’s…” Alicent struggled to find the right word. “...Jealous. We were very close when we were younger. Very close. But when we stopped talking to each other it was a bad falling out. I can only assume that your mother is jealous of you fitting in perfectly with our family.”
“She's told me she's only wanted boys before.”
“Your mother always dreamed of having boys. Why? I don't know.” She sat down on the bed and patted the spot next to her. “Our friendship had already crumbled a bit when she had Jace and Luke but I remember her being absolutely in love with them.”
“Do you remember me?”
Alicent paused. She didn't want to tell you but knew you deserved to know the truth. “Your mother held you and cared for you well when you were a baby but I could tell she put in less effort with you.”
You settled yourself under the blankets of the bed and curled up.
“I'm so sorry, sweetie.”
“I never did anything to her.”
“No,” Alicent agreed. “You didn't.” She sighed. “But know that I love you and I will take care of you as much as I can. You are always welcome here, my dear.”
A lump formed in your throat and tears began to track down your face. You couldn't find the right words to fully explain how much that meant to you. How much this family meant to you. So, instead of words, you hugged Alicent with all your might. When she began to rub your back you let out a sob and soon found yourself crying into her chest.
After a few minutes, you were able to calm down. Sniffling, you looked up at Alicent with bloodshot eyes.
“I think I'm going to sleep now,” you told her.
“That's a very good idea, sweetie.” She leaned down and kissed the top of your head. “Sleep tight, my dear.” And with that, she left.
In your dream, you re-lived Aemond losing his eye over and over again. Each time you were frozen. Each time you couldn't do anything. All you could do was watch as Luke carved into his face. Even your screams didn't work in your dreams. Jace would be there sometimes, too. He'd be next to Luke and laugh.
“See what you did to your friend?” Dream Jace spat out. “It’s your fault he lost an eye.”
Aegon and Helaena appeared next to Jace. They spoke in unison. “Leave us alone,” they said. “We don't want you anymore.”
Your brothers and Aegon and Helaena laughed at you as they turned around and faded into a mist. All that was left was you and Aemond.
“I hate you,” he said.
Then you woke up.
Cold sweat covered your body. Something told you it wasn’t even morning; you just didn’t sleep long. You couldn’t. Even after you had woken up, you just stayed under the covers for what felt like hours. You couldn’t face the possibility of your dream coming true. It terrified you. If Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond left you, you would have no one. You’d be all alone.
There was a quiet knock on the door.
“Are you awake?” It was Aemond.
At the sound of his voice, you immediately crossed to the door. “You should be resting,” you told him.
The gauze over his eye shone brightly against the moonlight. He shuffled around a bit. “Once I started feeling more awake I couldn’t go back to sleep.”
You nodded your head. For a while the two of you stood there in the doorway, not quite knowing what to do.
“Is anyone else awake?” you asked him.
Aemond shook his head. “I don’t think so.”
Again, the two of you just stared at each other.
“Wanna come in since we both can’t sleep?” you offered.
A smile ghosted his face. “I’d like that.”
Moving out of the doorway, you let Aemond in. You hopped on the bed and waited for Aemond. He was moving slowly. His hands were outstretched to feel around his surroundings. For a moment you had forgotten the loss of his eye.
“Aemond, I’m so sorry! Let me help you!” You quickly hopped off the bed and went over to him. You turned on the light to make it easier for him to see.
The light was bright but your eyes quickly adjusted. Taking one of Aemond’s hands, you led him to the bed, careful to guide him along the way. When you got to the bed, you placed both of his hands on the sheets. From there he was able to guide himself and sit on it. Once Aemond was seated you plopped down next to him.
“How do you feel?” you asked quietly.
“I…I don’t know. Weird, I guess,” he replied. “It feels like my eye is just covered up. When I blink I can tell there’s nothing there to move. It’s all just unreal, I guess.”
“I hate that this happened to you.” You moved a hand to cover his. “I will never forgive my brothers for this.”
“You shouldn’t do that. They’re family.”
“They may be family but they don’t treat me like I’m part of it. You guys treat me better than mine ever has.”
Aemond sighed. “I wish you didn’t have to go through that.”
“Don’t pity me, Aemond.”
“And don’t pity me. I fought for your honor and I think I honored you well.”
You chuckled. “You sound like some fancy knight.”
He bumped your shoulder with his. “Maybe I am.”
You removed your hand from his and placed it over your heart. “Oh, Aemond. Having you as my knight in shining armor would be a dream come true,” you dramatically said.
He looked you straight in the eye the best he could. “I’m serious. I don’t want anyone to hurt you like your brothers and parents do.”
Your hand dropped from your chest. “Oh, Aemond.”
He suddenly flinched and covered the gauze with a hand. “It hurts,” he whined.
As soon as those words left his lips you wrapped your arms around him. “It’s okay, I’m here.”
You weren’t sure what the future held for both of you but you know you wanted Aemond by your side. Together, you could get through this thing called life.
Over the next few months, you had designated yourself as Aemond’s personal assistant. You spent even more time at their house, much to your parents’ dismay. Luckily, they were unbothered enough not to stop you. Whenever you’d tell them you were going to see Aemond they’d either roll their eyes or make a snide comment about how you’ve changed families. It stung, especially when they’d say something instead of saying nothing. At least with the lack of response you could pretend that maybe they do care. When they opened their mouths, however, it was clear that wasn’t the case.
Even with Aemond needing a lot of help, your positivity and support for him never wavered. Some days it was as though nothing had happened. You would crack jokes, watch tv, and play games just like you used to. Well, almost like you used to. Simple things became hard for Aemond to do on his own but you both adapted well. You were always quick to help him figure out how to do something. Arguably, you helped him more than his mother and step father did. Not that they didn’t care, of course. You just were always first in line to help him. One thing that was really hard, though, was the pain.
“On a scale of one to ten, how are you feeling?” you asked Aemond on a particularly rough day. You sat across from him on his bed.
“...Five,” he said.
“I can tell when you’re lying, Aemond. Your tell is when you pick at your fingernails.”
Aemond sighed. “Seven.”
“That sounds about right. You’ve been holding your left side more and your face hasn’t been so good at hiding the pain.”
“Maybe for you, but I can hide it from other people,” he argued.
“And why would you want that?”
“So they don’t pity me.”
You crossed your arms and scooted closer to him. “It’s not a bad thing for people to pity you.”
“Well, I don’t want it - agh!” He clutched his left side again.
“I’m going to get you some of those pain pills,” you said as you hopped off the bed.
“No! I’m fine,” Aemond insisted.
“No, you’re not. Just lay down while I go grab them.” As you left the room, you heard some grumbling but soon the soft flop of someone laying down.
As you made your way downstairs, you bumped into Helaena.
“How’s he doing?” she asked you.
“He’s hurting a little more than usual.”
Helaena began wringing her hands. “I just wish I could do more. You’re already doing most of the work.”
“It’s okay, Helaena. I like helping him.”
A sly smile spread across her face. “It doesn’t have to do with that little crush you have, does it?”
“No! I mean yes! I mean, ugh. I want to help him because I care about him, crush or no crush.” You sighed and looked down. “But I do like being around him,” you mumbled.
“Ha! I knew it!”
You shushed Helaena. “I’m just trying to get his medicine.”
“Okay, okay, okay.” She led you to the cupboard that held all his medicine.
When he had first gotten out of surgery and you talked to Alicent, she told you that Aemond would most likely be in pain the rest of his life. It broke your heart to hear that. It was then that you made the decision to be as helpful as you could. Because you were in their home more often than usual, Alicent asked that more of your things be kept at the house. Rhaenyra was more than happy to hand everything over.
“It’s like you’re moving out,” she told you. “I didn’t think the day would come so soon but here we are.”
“I’m not leaving forever, mother,” you said. “I just want to help Aemond more.”
“Yes, yes. You want to take care of your other family,” she waved you away. “Just don’t be loud whenever you come back.”
Despite knowing why your mother treated you the way she did, it still hurt when she dismissed you. All you ever wanted was to be loved. You still didn't quite understand why she would put the blame on her only daughter. Daemon wasn't much better either. He followed after Rhaenyra in treating you. He focused more on Jace and Luke. He even took them under his wing when it came to dog training. Daemon would take them out for agility and obedience training; something you wished you were included in. One thing you've always resented was how your mother never got you your own dog. Jace had Vermax and Luke had Arrax. You were the only one in your family without a dog. It was another reason to keep you ostracized.
Walking back up to Aemond’s room, which has been moved downstairs, you thought all about your family. It didn't make sense to you so you did your best to replace them with this family you were with now.
“Aemond, I have the pain meds!” You called from outside the door.
Once you heard a small “come in,” you pushed your way inside the room. Aemond was laying down with a pillow over his face.
“Is it hurting more?” You asked him as you stepped closer to him.
“It aches,” he told you. He sounded weak.
“Here, I have your pain meds and then you can take a nap, okay?”
Aemond pushed the pillow off his face and sat up. “But that means you'll go back home.”
“I won't, I promise. I'll hang out with Helaena and Aegon.”
He gave you a bit of a side eye but took the medicine from you eventually. After tucking him back in his bed, you kept your promise and didn’t leave. You sat there at his bedside as he fell asleep and even lingered after he had. There was always a tug when it came to Aemond. Something that kept you from leaving him. Whatever it was, you followed and trusted it.
------
A year and a half had passed. While Aemond has improved significantly, he struggled every now and then with day to day life. Pain still pestered him, but not as badly as it was when he was first injured. But the bouts of pain that came randomly caused great pain. Now, he wore an eye patch. His mother suggested getting a prosthetic eye but Aemond said he didn’t want to scare anyone with an off-looking eye. Instead, he chose his simple eye patch.
“I want to give him something, Hel. I really do. Something that is important; meaningful, even.” You told your friend as you walked downtown.
Walking up and down the streets of downtown King’s Landing has always been a favorite pastime of yours, especially with your friends. Looking around at the products of various artisans brought you joy. The art was always so beautiful.
“What about a little thing to say you love him?” Joked Helaena.
You blushed. “Shut up.”
“I’m only half joking.”
Your crush on Aemond hadn’t phased out, even though you thought it would. If anything, your feelings for him were even stronger. His smile, something that seemed to be reserved for you, made your heart flutter. His touch sent butterflies to your stomach. His laugh was contagious , always encouraging you to join in. Just the thought of it was enough to make color rise to your cheeks.
As you and Helaena browsed the works of art, a beautiful sapphire caught your eye. “Hel, look at this.”
The beautiful velvet blue gem sparkled in the sunlight. It even had a companion necklace.
“It wouldn’t match his eye,” you said, “but he would look dazzling.”
“You want to get him something for his eye? You know he doesn’t mind wearing the eye patch.”
“It doesn’t have to be for his eye. Maybe just for him to keep,” you shrugged. You liked the thought of giving him something as priceless as this. “How much is this?” you asked the vendor.
The vendor was an old woman with a kind smile. “And what do you plan on doing with this gem and necklace? You seem a little young to be purchasing priceless jewels.”
“I, um,” you became flustered. “It’s for a friend.”
The old woman hummed. “You must care for this friend a lot.”
“She does!” interrupted Helaena. She coughed and lowered her voice to a regular speaking tone. “I mean yes, she does. Very much.”
“Oh, young love,” the old woman sighed. “What bliss.”
You prompted the old woman again. “How much is this?”
“For you, dear, ten copper pennies.”
You sighed in relief. Ten copper pennies you could do. As you began to pull out the money, Helaena stopped you.
“Let me pay for half.”
“Helaena, I can’t let you do that. I have the money to pay for this, I promise.”
“I insist. Please, you’ve done so much for him, for us. Let me pay half.”
You looked at Helaena, trying to find some sort of reason not to take her offer yet you found none. “Okay.”
Helaena squealed as she pulled out five copper pennies and put them in your hand. You took the money and passed it to the old woman. She had already wrapped up the necklace and gem carefully in some paper and put them in a cushioned box just to be safe.
“I hope he likes it, my dear,” she said.
You gave her a smile as you took the gift from her. “Thank you.”
As you and Helaena made your way back to the house, you couldn’t help but flush at the thought of giving the gem to him.
“Are you getting nervous?” Helaena asked you.
“I mean, a little bit.” You flexed and unflexed the hand that wasn’t holding the gems.
Helaena bumped your shoulder with hers. “You’ll be fine, I promise.”
Entering the house, you went your separate ways; Helaena to her room and you to Aemond’s.
Arriving at Aemond’s door, you hesitantly knocked on it. “Aemond? Can I come in?”
Aemond’s door opened, revealing him with a slight grimace on his face.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, just a little bit of pain. Nothing new, you know?”
You gave him a small smile and held out the bag. “I got you something. Well, I got us something.”
“You didn’t have to do that.” His eye went wide.
“But I wanted to. Now, are you going to open it?”
He gently took the bag from you. “I guess I will.” He moved over to his bed and invited you to sit next to him.
Nervousness jumped up your throat and your hands became slightly clammy. What if he didn’t like it?
As Aemond went to open one of the boxes you stopped him. “Wait! Yours is the other one.”
He laughed. “Does it matter?”
“Yes, because you need to see mine after you see yours.”
“Okay, okay.” Aemond moved to the other box and began to unwrap it.
“Be careful, it’s very delicate.”
“Relax, I’m not Aegon,” he joked.
As he finished unwrapping the gift, he revealed the shining blue sapphire. His eye went big upon seeing it; his mouth agape. “You got me a gem?”
“A sapphire,” you corrected him. “I know you didn’t want a prosthetic eye so I figured why not something better. Now open the other one.”
Aemond smiled at you as he began to open the other gift. “A necklace?”
“For me, of course. We can match.” Your heart began to flutter.
“We can match,” he echoed in a soft voice. “This is…this is beautiful.” He put down the necklace next to the gem and tackled you in a hug. “This is the best thing anyone has ever given me.”
“We’re friends forever, right?” you said to him once you pulled out of the hug.
Aemond’s face fell a tiny bit but he immediately brought it back up again. It was quick, you almost missed it, but you knew him better than anyone else.
You tilted your head. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, I’m still in shock.” He gave you a hesitant smile.
“Will you put the necklace on me?” you asked him.
A blush began to color his face. “Yeah, yeah, of course.”
You turned around and let Aemond bring the necklace over your head and hook it behind your neck. It was almost intimate. After he had secured the necklace, you turned around and wrapped your arms around his neck.
“Forever, Aemond. I promise I’m with you forever.”
Aemond buried his face in your neck. “Forever.”
⭒to the rescue⭒
⭒summary. rafe comes to your rescue when drunk.
⭒warnings. fem!reader, drinking, cursing, slight angst if you squint, fluff, protective rafe
⭒word count. 654
you were attending one of topper’s parties, usually with rafe but this time with sarah, getting drunk and dancing your worries away.
she had persuaded you to come along, labeling it as a girls night, but you knew the real reason why she wanted to come.
and plus rafe was doing work for his father, so why not?
but things had started going downhill once you downed three…four? shots. the alcohol running through your veins as you felt your confidence shoot through the roof.
all was fine, dancing with sarah and making friends with the random girls around you, until some touren decided to test his limits with you.
“i s-said stop,” you slurred, shoving him against his chest in a weak attempt to get this random boy away from you, sarah backing you up by shoving him in the side.
“topper!” sarah yelled, trying to grab the kook’s attention while keeping an eye on you, your eyes fluttering shut as your body swayed.
“cmon, i’ll show you a good time.”
you tried not to vomit, the smell of beer and whatever god awful musk he was wearing suffocating your scent.
“i-i have a boyfriend,” you mumbled, body relaxing at seeing topper and kelce approach the situation. kelce quickly grabbed the guy before sarah dragged topper over.
“leave her the fuck alone, bro” kelce spat, shoving the guy as topper quickly took out his phone to dial your boyfriend.
rafe let out a groan at the sound of his phone going off, his attention taken away from the scattered papers covering his desk.
“what, topper?” he snapped, annoyance clear in his voice.
“u-uh, we have a problem,” topper started off, moving away from the phone for a second to yell something in the background, only ticking off rafe more.
“spit it out, topper. i don’t have time for this-”
“y/n is like- wasted. and some touren won’t leave her alone.”
that was all rafe needed to know for him to leave tannyhill, forgetting about the piles of paper work ward was forcing on him.
when he arrived, it wasn’t hard to miss his girlfriend who was drunkenly fighting with kelce and topper.
“you said he was coming!” you whined, throwing your head back as you leaned into sarah.
“y/n he is-”
“hey, baby,” rafe called, grabbing your attention as your eyes shot in his direction, a drunk smile making its way on your face.
“rafe!” you gasped, stumbling to him before throwing your arms around him, “i-i’ve missed you!”
“i’ve missed you too, baby,” he chuckled, pulling you away to fix your messy hair, strands sticking to your forehead.
“i heard there was a boy problem here?”
your eyes went wide as you gave him a pout, tears threatening to spill, “i didn’t d-do anything!”
“oh i know, shh it’s okay,” he whispers, frown on his face as he runs the pad of his thumb over your cheek.
“i’m just here to get you home.”
your frown was quickly replaced by a smile, letting rafe bring your figure closer to his.
he felt warm and smelled good, bringing immediate comfort to the situation.
“thanks top for calling,” he said, grabbing the boy’s attention, “and kelce for helping. you too i guess, sarah.”
sarah gave her brother the finger before letting you two head back, rafe’s arm wrapped firmly around your body as he fished for his keys.
“can we get food?” you mumbled, rafe helping you into the passenger seat before buckling you in.
“it’s 1 in the morning, gorgeous.”
“pleeeaaaasssseee,” you whined, giving him your best puppy dog eyes. he let out a sigh before tucking a piece of hair behind your ear.
“i’ll make you some pasta, how does that sound?”
you gave him a peck on the lips, your smile making him melt on the spot.
“i love when you cook for me,” you sighed, rafe rolling his eyes before shutting his door and joining you a few seconds later.
“oh! what about milkshakes?”
“don’t push it, sweetheart.”
