Random Doctor Who Facts You Might Not Know, Part 50: 50 Facts for 50 Parts
How the hell did I get to part 50?!?!?! This is insanity.
The Eleventh Doctor once got hit with an electromagnetic pulse that left him needing to rebuild his mind, during which time he lived as Mr. Foreman. Valarie would sell her cybernetic enhancements to Mr. Foreman in exchange for money and the chance to check on the TARDIS, often telling him stories about the Doctor as she did so. Mr. Foreman used so many of her enhancements that she lost herself. (Audio: Curiosity Shop)
The Fifth Doctor has been tied up in strappado before. (Audio: The Church and the Crown)
The Ninth Doctor has lost or forgotten the ability to play the spoons. (Audio: Station to Station)
Aspirin is fatal to Time Lords. (Novel: The Left-Handed Hummingbird; Burning Heart; Audio: The Condemned)
The Brigadier lost his virginity as a Second Lieutenant when he was 21 years old. (Novel: Deadly Reunion)
The Thirteenth Doctor has introduced herself as "Sarah Jane Smith" before. (Short story: Mission of the KaaDok)
The Third Doctor was able to sense that he was near the end of his life before being irradiated. (Audio: The Children of the Future)
Mozart got cloned in the future many times because they were inspired by his creativity. This made one clone travel to the past to make Mozart immortal with the intention of draining him of that creativity, which would make sure those clones were never made. The Sixth Doctor traveled to Mozart's deathbed to convince him not to trust the clone, and Mozart eventually dies very confused by what was going on. (Audio: My Own Private Wolfgang)
Ace once tried to use the Seventh Doctor's "look me in the eye, pull the trigger" manipulation tactics, but because she's not a hypnotist or psychic like him, she ends up shot anyway. (Audio: The Fearmonger)
Hannah Bartholomew stowed away on the TARDIS, looking for an adventure. She ended up being instrumental in saving the day on the God-King's Tomb Ship and joined Nyssa and the Fifth Doctor more officially. (Audio: Tomb Ship)
Iris Wildthyme has her own version of the Valeyard called Bianca. She rebuilt her TARDIS as a nightclub and tried to steal Iris's regenerations. (Audio: The Wormery)
The Thirteenth Doctor and the Master, locked together in a psychic link, once talked about their issues. They talked about their pasts, but the Master refused to tell her about the "mystery" he was keeping from her. (Short story: The Doctor vs the Master)
After being irradiated, the Third Doctor wandered the time vortex for an entire decade, his body breaking down the entire time. It got to a point where he could not reach the console and was left drifting until the TARDIS finally landed herself. (Novel/Audio: Love and War)
The Thirteenth Doctor once tried to celebrate Yaz's birthday with a tea party in Boston, 1773. (Comic: The Forest Bride)
The Eighth Doctor was separated into his three different sides once. One side was sensible. The other was quite bouncy and excitable, and it was a wonder he didn't get killed while being distracted by something. The third side was incredibly nasty and could be quite violent without the other two sides there to balance him out. (Audio: Caerdroia)
The Fifth Doctor is so good with a bow and arrow that he could shoot an arrow with a piece of parchment attached to it through a window in a tower and snuff out the flame of the candle he was aiming at. (Audio: Son of the Dragon)
The Ninth Doctor once invited a woman named Adriana to travel with him in the TARDIS, only for her to almost immediately die. (Audio: The Bleeding Heart)
When taking into account the battered appearance of his TARDIS console, the Second Doctor realized that the Time Lords had been sending him on missions for a long time, using him as a pawn. Unfortunately, every time he realized this, they erased his memory. (Short story: Save Yourself)
The Twelfth Doctor recalled pulling the Sword from the Stone, becoming King of England for a day, and then abdicating to King Arthur. (Novel: Silhouette)
The Eleventh Doctor used the alias Jean Valjean to infiltrate Alcatraz. (Comic: Escape into Alcatrax)
The Toymaker once turned the Eighth Doctor into a ventriloquist's doll, and he was unable to move or speak unless Charley was holding him. When he did speak, he would shout and protest desperately against the situation. (Audio: Solitaire)
About six hours after the events of The Tomb of the Cybermen, Captain Hopper and his crew ran into the Fifth Doctor, Tegan, and Nyssa, and Hopper was killed by two cyber-converted crewmembers. (Audio: Secrets of Telos)
The Third Doctor became a British citizen at some point. (Audio: The Doll of Death)
After leaving the Eighth Doctor, Zagreus became Perfection, who was a huge flirt towards the Doctor. (Audio: The Next Life)
William Shakespeare once spiked the Fifth Doctor's drink with ginger, leading to the predictable drunken effects. (Audio: The Kingmaker)
The Thirteenth Doctor also really likes ginger nuts, garibaldis, and fig rolls and gets them from the biscuit dispenser in her TARDIS. (Comic: The Forest Bride)
The Sixth Doctor considers Braxiatel condescending and doesn't really like him, but he still trusts him. (Audio: The 100 Days of the Doctor)
When the Fifth Doctor was stabbed in the chest, he was able to survive due to his characteristic heart anatomy, but he was still out for the count for a while. (Audio: Son of the Dragon)
The Sixth Doctor had been known to play with swivel chairs, even going "wheeeee!" while gliding around in them. (Audio: The Sandman)
The Ninth Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to seal the Compassionate away in the rift. He also rigged the sonic to explode. However, this sonic screwdriver was the model commonly used by the War Doctor, not the one from the first series of nuwho. (Audio: The Bleeding Heart)
The Twelfth Doctor thought he might regenerate when he was infected with the Venusian flu, but he also worried that the flu would take such a toll on him that he wouldn't be able to regenerate. (Audio: The Lost Flame)
Kwundaar looks so terrifying that the Doctor screamed after merely looking at him. (Audio: Primeval)
Erimem - a companion of the Fifth Doctor - brought her cat Antranak on board the TARDIS, whom the Doctor despised. There were several reasons for this, including that the Doctor was occasionally unable to set the controls because Antranak was lying on top of them. (Audio: The Church and the Crown)
C'rizz's father almost drowned him once as punishment for deviating from the Church of the Foundation. (Audio: The Next Life)
The Twelfth Doctor's sonic sunglasses have a Telepathic Emergency Beacon, which allows him to take control of another person's body. (Short story: My Dad, The Doctor)
There was a murderer in a place called the Needle, which should be impossible since everyone there has a chip inside of them stopping them from being violent. This killer traveled from person to person, something referred to as "redlining." The Seventh Doctor immediately redlined after being chipped. This whole situation began because a time traveller came to the needle, and the time travel mechanism was organic and a part of her, which made the computer go mad. The Doctor was drawn there and was sensitive to redlining due to his time sensitive nature and his biology. (Audio: Red)
Simon and Joanne, two characters in Lant Land, thought that Tegan and Turlough's names were unbelievable and proposed they change them to Yvonne and Derek. (Audio: Lant Land)
The Eleventh Doctor once gave the name Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart as a pseudonym. (Novel: Shroud of Sorrow)
Gemma, one of the Eighth Doctor’s companions, has called him Dad before, but the Doctor preferred to be called a cool uncle. (Audio: Terror Firma)
Turlough hates the cold and will complain if put in it. (Audio: Singularity)
The Sixth Doctor and Evelyn once thought they had accidentally cockblocked Julius Caesar's parents on the night of his conception. This meant that instead a baby girl named Julia was born, which Evelyn thought would be a brilliant chance to revolutionize the world. She kept trying to stop the Doctor from convincing Julius Caesar Sr. and Aurelia from hooking up at the proper time. Eventually, the two realize that 101 BC is before 100 BC and that they were doing this for no reason at all. (Audio: 100 BC)
The Spriggan was an alternate universe version of the Doctor, who terrorized a planet and used their youth to power his TARDIS. He even created an new Leela, but she fought him to protect the Tenth Doctor and threw him into the vortex. (Audio: Splinters)
The Galyari are a species of 8-foot tall reptiles that had extraordinary eyesight. Because of their exceptional vision, they found the Sixth Doctor to be literally painful to look at because of his coat. They were afraid of him and called him "the Sandman." (Audio: The Sandman)
The Tenth Doctor referred to the Seventh as the mysterious and manipulative type, the sort of rebellious phase someone goes through when they turn 1000 years old. (Novel: Legends of Camelot)
Joshua Douglas was a companion of the Third Doctor but stopped traveling with him after a disagreement. He was later killed while with the Fourth Doctor and Leela. (Audio: The Catalyst)
Mandy Litherland was incredibly fond of and sweet on the Ninth Doctor. After traveling to the past, she kissed the Doctor. The Doctor almost invited her to travel with him but didn't because he knew she probably wouldn't accept. (Audio: Auld Lang Syne)
Sometimes, when the Sixth Doctor is distressed and going off the deep end of his emotions, he has been known to break down in Evelyn's presence and cuddle with her. (Audio: Arrangements for War)
The Veil left the Twelfth Doctor a spade made of duralinum and a dwarf star alloy, which would have been strong enough to break the azbantium wall. The Doctor was wary of it, assuming it was a trap, and he used his fists on the wall instead. (Short story: The Veil)
Missy once saved the life of a young girl whose sister had asked her for help. She had stopped to rescue the child stuck high up while being chased by an assassin, without further witness, and without reward. The Doctor does not know of this. (Audio: The Chaos Cascade)
A young version of the Fifth Doctor post-Four to Doomsday once got displaced in time. Experiencing time slippage, he swapped places with his future selves and learned that Adric had died far too early. Eventually, he ended up in the body of an Auton duplicate the Master had made of the Doctor. He eventually faded away and died as the time slippage unraveled his past and his memories to an extent where he was running on his most basic desire: to save Adric. He had been convinced that if he was put back in his own time he could save him, and for that reason, the older Fifth Doctor refused to return him. (Audio: The Auton Infinity)

The Doctor's incarnations have fears associated to what caused their regenerations Two acting childlike and whimsical because he's afraid of growing old again. He's scared of becoming a crotchety old man that will die alone. He surrounds himself with friends just as he much with surrogates, to help him feel like he isn't too old to be running about having adventures. Three having a lot of complex and mixed feelings about the Time Lords. He resents them for what they did to him and his companions, but also very scared of facing that fate again should cross their path once more. Four can't stand spiders. They didn't directly kill him, but damn did they play a big part leading up to his regeneration. They give him the willies and Sarah Jane and Romana always have to take care of invading arachnids while he is perched safely on the center console. Five hating heights might actually be canon, he's shown freaking out on a cliff in Castrovalva and hating every minute of a plane ride in Time Flight. Boy likes to keep his feet firmly where he doesn't risk falling. He'll get vertigo if too close to a ledge. Six being scared of getting sick. While this one is more vague, it was the fever of Spectrox Toxemia that kills, so I could see him being panicky and over compensating when it comes to illnesses. Pulls manflu pity every time: bed rest, tea, soup, hot waterbottle on the forehead, reciting rhetoric about his woes. Poor Peri and Mel has to tend to his drama. I can also see him hating bats but in a "why can't you fuckers make more than a tiny vial of milk, asshole???" kind of way. I think Seven's might also be canon (in the books at least) with the way he mentally locked away his Sixth self in fear of the Valeyard. Though he wasn't really a cause for regeneration, he certainly set the Doctor on the path to it. Eight terrified of medicine and hospitals. Aspirin is already deadly to Time Lords, anesthesia fucked up his regeneration. This boy won't go to a medical professional unless he's dragged in unconscious. He will look at broken leg twisted out of shape and claim he can walk it off. The Warrior/War Doctor scared of failing people the way he did Cass. His spirit for hope and brighter ending to the war broken when he regenerated. He became the one that got his hands dirty because he was too scared to let anyone else die under his care.
Nine scared of war. War Doctor held off his regeneration for years to keep fighting, and Nine clearly does his best to step away from the incarnation he hated being more than anything. Like he said, "Coward, any day." Ten is a bit tricky. He's scared of Daleks, losing companions. He's scared that people around him will be willing to sacrifice themselves for him. Scared of the heart of the Tardis, the very soul of time itself ripping away what/who he loves. After Rose is safe from it he was very careful to never let anyone open it again. Eleven scared to see another Time Lord again. He's heartbroken about being the last of his kind. Romana, Brax, Damon all gone. The Master's plans had gotten so much more violent and destructive and insane than they used to be. The other Time Lords so desperate to escape the Time Locked war that they'd destroy time to do it. He's scared of everything ending if the Time Lords return. I haven't really seen enough of Twelve or past that to give proper interpretations on them, but I'm pretty sure Twelve is determined not to be seen as an old man. It's like he sees this new cycle as starting over so he's trying to act like he's the young, rebellious first incarnation? idk

What is the Best Doctor Who Story Ever Told?
Hello everybody and welcome to this, frankly ridiculously sized, tournament between not only every televised Doctor Who story, not only the spinoffs, not only a large number of minisodes, but over a 100 audios and dozens of other stories from other corners of the EU.
Now we will have to whittle over 600 stories down to jusst one, that is a lot of matches, a lot of rounds, just a lot, until very late in the game, rounds will be posted across several days. Right now the goal is to post (up to) new matches daily from Sunday to Thursday, with Friday's a day off for my own sake, which in my current plan places the final on the 18th of December (thats right, this'll be out of date before its even over, during round 2 in fact)
You can use this form to submit propaganda for your favourite stories (or anti propaganda for ones you hate). there is a more checkable list of nominations here if you want to know what you can submit propaganda for
without further ado
ROUND 1 (Group Stage)
earlier in the year I ran some polls between televised Doctor Who stories, the top 50% for each Doctor have automatically advanced to Round 2, which is why (a) there are stories missing, and (b) the groups between the remaing stories are a lot deadlier

Ranking Companions I've Seen So Far
(Because I can)
(Purely from memory so is possible I forgot someone)
(They are bulleted instead of numbered because there's a character limit for blocks and it restarted the numbering when I broke it up. They are, however, in order from favorite to least favorite)
Sarah Jane: She hides it under professional veneer, but she is autistic chaos personified. She has the most chances of anyone to just go home, and even when she claims to be fed up she always gets back in the tardis. She is high on adventure. She thinks the Doctor has died at least once per story, and for the first 3/4 of her run they never actually get to take a fun break from constant danger, and she is hooked. She eats an orange without peeling it. She met the Doctor because she snuck into a scientific conference to investigate disappearances and then walked right into the tardis to look for him. She had no trouble believing she'd moved in space and it took only the barest evidence to have her fully on board with time travel; I think she always half believed in magic. She's excellent at bluffing but only for very short periods. She's very much about the ends justifying the means and always a little confused when people are mad since everything turned out fine, which is very Doctor of her. And their dynamic really was silly best friends.
Leela: Everyone else was either kidnapped or invited along. She pushed the Doctor aside to invite herself, because she didn't want to have to stay home and be a leader (and she too craves adventure). She never completely understands what's happening, but she jumps into every situation fully anyway. And asks a ton of questions. And, once she's been taught about something, she maintains a good understanding of it (no one in-show acknowledges how smart she is and how hard she works to catch up from not having the same education as every other character). I enjoy how ready to stab and shoot people she is, and how often she winds up with guns no matter what the Doctor says. But she's also so genuine and protective and their bickering is sweet and she's best friends with the dog even before she's left alone on Gallifrey with no one who respects her but the dog. (The whole noble savage trope is problematic but I still enjoy a great deal of her character)
Donna: She's outspoken and best friends with the Doctor and no one has ever thought he was less hot. With her the dynamic really is just we're flying through time and space playing dress up. Her fear response is indignant anger. She's a temp who has been told by her mother her whole life that she's a failure, and she's the most important person in the universe. She has terrible self esteem but never lets that get in the way of speaking her mind. She loves and supports her trans daughter. She forgot it all for 15 years and then, married with a teenager, casually moved in with her old best friend.
Bill: Even when she couldn't go to college, she was so determined to learn that she just appeared in the Doctor's lectures and was excited when she didn't initially understand things. She was his student, and his friend, and once or twice his protector, but she never did the Clara thing of putting all her time into keeping track of the Doctor and protecting him from himself. On her first alien planet, robots that spoke emoji tried to kill her, and she still kept traveling. But she never gave up her life at home or her education, either. She had a gay crush in her first episode that she never even got to go on a date with, and then ended up spending eternity together as noncorporeal beings by the end. She helped rehabilitate the most evil Time Lord. She's iconic.
Romana I: She is the sheltered excellent grades autistic. She's so baby and innocent, but also knows more about what the Doctor is talking about than any other companion (and sometimes the Doctor). She can fly the tardis, because she read the manual. She plays dress up constantly but rarely in any sort of context appropriate to where they're going. She wanted to be called Fred. She literally can't lie to save either of their lives. She's charming and beautiful and capable, but might think she's even more capable than she actually is. She was horrified by what a failure of a Time Lord the Doctor was until she realized he was happy, and that that was an option.
Yaz: I love how she seems so normal and together, got involved by chance doing her job, but slowly it becomes clear that she was never ok and somehow this was the best thing that could have happened to her. She was kidnapped into this but instead of missing home she fell in love. She gets stuck on Earth without the Doctor twice and spent both times (1) pining and (2) taking charge to save the world. She talks like she knows what to do better than any other human in the room (and often does), but still works well on a team. She ran into a kid she'd vaguely known in elementary school and his step-grandfather and then ended up traveling with them for years and becoming best friends. She should not have been a cop, however, and would have made a better social worker.
Ryan: He can't ride a bike at 19 but has yet to give up trying. It doesn't come up as much as I'd like, but he is casually disabled. He has a temper, which sort of led to him allowing a murderous alien onto Earth, but he is also so full of compassion for every random person in need they meet. He actually had a life at home and, though he stayed willingly (after getting kidnapped), he struggled with missing his friends and the normality and comfort they represented. It took running around saving worlds to make him admit he should forge a familial bond with his dead grandma's husband. He also made up with his dad (he really did the opposite arc of starting with a strong family and pulling them apart when he left). He got to leave when he chose and be safe and happy, but never stopped trying to protect his world.
Jamie: He also never understands what is happening, but he's mostly fine with that. He's just happy to be along for the ride with the Doctor, being gay and Scottish throughout time and space, ready to stab people (he would have gotten along with Leela tbh). He's good at drawing connections between things he has no context for and the closest thing he understands, and I love it because my brain does that thing too of drawing comparisons to things I've seen. If the Time Lords didn't take his memories, he would have stayed with the Doctor until eventually dying for him.
Susan: She is sensitive and autistic and not cut out for so much drama. Sure, she understands what the Doctor is talking about, and she wasn't technically kidnapped, but she was happy pretending to be a human girl in 1963 and I don't think she ever particularly wanted to keep going adventuring. But she's still enthusiastic and outgoing and just doing her best. She sort of adopted Barbara as her weird protective aunt.
Clara: She was never a normal person. She is naturally manipulative, bossy, controlling, and a bit ruthless. She didn't use most of these traits overmuch until she met the Doctor, but they were there. Luckily, she also has a fairly strong moral compass, so she isn't really a horrible person. But watching a human person surprise the Doctor by out-Doctoring him is delightful. She is also addicted to the thrill and adventure of it all, and no matter how much she likes the idea of having a normal life on the side it could never compare. I don't think she'd have survived going back to a normal human existence like Sarah had to.
Zoe: "The Doctor is almost as smart as me." She is somehow a teenager and a space librarian with a perfectly normal education level for her time that makes her a genius nearly everywhere she goes. Important to note, she is also an actual genius. She helped fend off cybermen one time and got adopted by a gay alien and his historical boyfriend, both of whom are determined to protect her but both of whom are also considerably less competent than she is. She would never have gone home if she wasn't forced to.
Martha: She is one of the most normal people on this list: a hardworking medical student with a loving but mildly dysfunctional family. Her choice of one trip in the tardis after the hospital situation is actually a pretty normal one even: who would say no to a chance to time travel? But she makes herself extraordinary through pure kindness and determination. She's so full of caring, but won't put up with people walking all over her or allow any sort of cruelty. She is one of the only ones with the strength to leave when she needs to, to take care of herself, but even so she can't forget what she knows and abandon people and quickly ends up working for UNIT and then on her own to save and protect people.
Barbara: Omg she's so weird. She's a history teacher who gets to travel through history, and is understandably delighted and horrified by this. But her response to being concerned for a student and unable to contact her family was to stalk this child to her home and then into a police box in a junkyard; it's kind of her own fault she got kidnapped, though the throughout time and space part was unpredictable. She saw an autistic alien teenager and realized no one else was going to parent her, so took that responsibility upon herself. Despite never stopping trying to get home (and eventually taking a great risk to do so), she really was delighted by so much of what they ran across. She is one of four people who know that the Doctor's manipulative curiosity is responsible for the daleks threatening the universe. She's so great.
Jo: Assigned companion because no one knew what to do with her, not even really liked by the Doctor at first, but threw her entire self enthusiastically into the job. She did not believe the Doctor could travel through time and space and really thought it was just a quirk that he was always trying to fix his time machine, but she liked him anyway. I'm not convinced she believed he was an alien, either, or knew enough about science to realize (at first) that his was more advanced than it should have been. But she was happy to help, and to learn, and just generally be along for the ride.
Liz: Thought she was too smart to be working as the Doctor's assistant, and she was right. A proper scientist who absolutely understood that his science was alien and advanced, but also how ridiculous these situations were and wasn't afraid to challenge the science that shouldn't have made sense or refuse to believe something until she saw proof. Left, of her own choice, without anything horrible happening to her; a minor miracle! Also counts as a historical queer icon, even though technically that didn't come up in the show. It is canon and I like to imagine between the lines her life as a queer lady in the 70's.
Vicki: Not a genius by her time's standards, but her standard education makes her one almost wherever she goes. Left to her own devices stranded on a planet and orphaned, she adopted a giant alien creature as a pet and set up a routine for survival. Tried to go on a relaxing Roman vacation once and ended up poisoning Nero. Adventurous, clever, and easily bored: no wonder the Doctor liked her.
Victoria: The daughter of a scientist who couldn't care less about science. Orphaned by the daleks and immediately adopted by the weird gay alien and his boyfriend who was historical even to her. Later more permanently adopted by a very nice couple in a century she's not even from. She taught Jamie to read.
Ian: Ok, so stalking a teenager into a junkyard wasn't his idea, but he did go along with it. A science teacher who got to see futuristic space science, though I don't think he enjoyed a lot of it as much as Barbara did. He was a good practical balance for everyone else in the tardis, though.
Graham: He's so ordinary, in the best way. I love how consistently his job as a bus driver is plot relevant. He brings sandwiches because the Doctor can't be bothered to feed them regularly. He's down for adventure but also practical about it.
Ruby: She has such a fairytale quality. She loves her mom, she isn't running away from anything, but she sure is running. She's running around the universe playing dress up. And I suspect that with more time separation, she will start to seem less normal and well adjusted and weirder in her own way.
Dodo: I actually only saw her in like 2 serials because so many are missing, and her departure felt sort of forced, but I liked her. She was SO enthusiastic about everything, and had no intention of listening to anyone who told her what to do.
Dan: I like him fine, and although it wasn't for fun he did sort of choose to stay and then to leave when he was ready. He's not the most interesting, though.
Rose: She is my line between companions I like and companions I don't. She's both caring and imperfect in ways that can be fun, but she was a little too consistently mean to Mickey (and her mom) for my taste, and had a habit of worrying about her own enjoyment above all other concerns, at least when people weren't actively being killed. Was definitely addicted to the adventure. There's nothing strictly wrong with a character with any of these traits (except for writing in Mickey just to have him bullied constantly), but she's not really my thing. Still, she's mainly THIS low on the list because I'm tired of the fandom focus on shipping her with ten constantly and also smoothing out all of her flaws.
Steven: His backstory and initial appearance were so cool, and then his actual character was kind of a wet noodle.
Amy: Yes her backstory was interesting too, but she mostly could have bee replaced by a lamp and it would have made no difference.
Rory: Like Amy but worse; he could have been replaced by a hat on the lamp.
Harry: He did have a personality, and it was the wrong one. I don't even usually include him in my companion lists because I disliked him so much. 50% of his personality was being sexist to Sarah while she coped more competently than him, and the rest was just being annoying.

I note that I don't, and I never, was much of a fan of doctor-and-rose as romance, but that I -- rather than get annoyed at the romantic-coded scenes -- had a tendency to simply read them from a totally different perspective, and really maybe should have been a sign of sooomething different about me, that I continuously felt that the doctor's concepts of connection must be so alien, that to call it romance would be to diminish the actual Thing that they had, which was presented as such onscreen (to my mind then, now I realise what was happening, but I prefer what I had going on), which is basically that the doctor was a shell of a person, hurtling towards destruction (he would have died without rose in ep1), desperately lonely and sad and traumatised, and she retaught nine -- and by extension ten -- how to love the universe, at the same time as nine and ten taught her the same. (I think about the scene in father's day, where while they're arguing, rose says that she knows how sad he is, and he'll just hang around the tardis waiting for her -- she knew!)
and then on top of that with sarah-jane (which, I never watched the classics as a kid, so I didn't have that context for her beyond what the episode presented) it felt like that was sort of confirmed and made even more canon through this idea that the doctor is constantly mourning the inevitable deaths of their companions and would rather simply leave them behind at some point than watch that happen (and they've seen that happen before, although dying for a cause versus just... dying, because you die, while they don't, they just continue on and on, always seeking connection, always knowing that time will take them away, that's a whole other thing)
and then of course there's ten's... I would call it "sex appeal" because it's david tennant and with his performance there's immediately a bit of a focus on oh he's quite pretty and he faints/is knocked unconscious in both of his first episodes, and a lot more flirting, and the people want to see sparks or what have you... but the doctor as portrayed and written is still... not coming at it that way. yes yes girl in the fireplace but also, once again, doesn't work for me, because I find it soooo much more interesting that the doctor would imprint on A Life - and a life that they admire -- and speedrun the exact thing that they're most afraid of with their companions... that she ages and dies and it's the one thing that the doctor simply cannot stop
meanwhile rose is quite young and swept up in this whole massive adventure and very much reads the doctor not as an alien (frequently surprised by their alien-ness) and gets jealous of sarah-jane as if she's an ex, and renette as if she's... a replacement? but really it's more that the doctor met her at the point when she was about to accept her life as it was. not an exciting life, not a bad life, but always having to ignore the idea that there must be more to it than this. and the idea that she might be unceremoniously dumped back in that after seeing just how This the this could be, of course that's terrifying. and of course she's simultaneously taken with the dashing doctor and the jetset life, and worried she could be replaced, because to her the doctor saved her at 19 years old. in some ways the doctor created her (considering who she becomes after dooms day)
contrasted to martha who initially has a similar kind of experience, but the doctor doesn't meet her at the space she's in with them -- ten is leaning on her, like they did with rose, but not giving anything back unless kicking and screaming and traumatising her whole family. martha's trajectory is so so tragic, because she barely gets a taste of the splendor versus the horrors and the latter marks her for life. but she also knows to walk away from those overwhelming feelings, rather than give into them, she knows they'll never be rewarded and she also grows beyond wanting to be a crutch for the doctor (the fact that she then ends up as a soldier, well... ouch)
and then of course donna, who never has those fucking awe-feelings to begin with and whose connection with the doctor is explicitly de-romanticised but never placed on a lesser pedestal as if there's a hierarchy of alloromanticism. topples those pillars, never sees the doctor as anything but what the doctor is. good old donna. (sobs.) (but also... cautious hope for the specials.) (but also sobs.)
my point being. just don't buy alloromantic doctor, they're a near-immortal alien. it's such a dull simplistic way of reading their relationships to other beings. other point being. all those women who were making heart-eyes at ten, wish they'd met thirteen and had a... "yeah, this still works for me," moment. their horizons, too, are broadened by seeing More. (that or they realise they were never actually "in love" but just thought ten was a sexy skinny little snack and it blinded them.) (although jodie whittaker, too, is a snack.)
and lastly lastly ofc, is that if the doctor has a longterm (by doctor time measurement) intense relationship with anyone, whatever that might be called, it's the tardis. and that relationship is also so alien it cannot be quantified by human words for concepts
#im rewatching doctor who#doctor who#dw#aroace doctor#look im rewatching into 13 and beyond i am willing to entertain yaz and 13 because we enjoy a good bit of lesbianism#however will wait and see because the doctor in my head is so so aroace in every incarnation#they just manifest it in different ways#i could go into the whole eleven-and-river and how i feel about that#i am perhaps in the minority in that river's arc just doesn't work for me and often neither does her character#i kind of want to listen to the audio adventures because ive heard she's got much more to do there#than be a flirty enigma/sexy lady/moffat fantasy#but i can say that one of my least favourite things about moffat's run was how 'sexy' he tried to make everything#by literally just having people use the word sexy all the time and talk about bad girls and what have you#it's like sexiness as written by a straight teenage boy#and not a supposedly grown man writing for grown people#other minority opinion perhaps but eleven just isn't my cup of tea#am interested in how i'll feel going back into that run#dont like matt smith much dont like moffat much and dont like what they envisioned for the doctor and how they directed/acted the doctor#feel like capaldi had to claw the character back into some semblance of thematic coherency#i was never too much into especially ten getting a bit high and mighty with lonely god and the like titles BUT#waters of mars places that in a very particular context that makes it so so gooood#(another post for another day about companion opinions)

For the trope ask: Crack Fiction and Science Fiction or Fantasy AUs.
Tumblr media
So this is in reference to:
put a fanfic trope in my inbox, and I will tell you: - how likely I am to write it - what character(s) or pairing I’d most likely write it for
Crack Fiction?
I assume you mean crack-fics, as in like the absurd kind for absurd sake.
I would say that I write a few crack concepts - but then take them too seriously that they are no longer crack. I like to take something that really makes no sense and make it make sense, like Lavender Letters, where Hinata is Hidan's prison pen pal, and he breaks out of prison to help her. Sounds absurd, but I take it seriously, and it becomes really cute.
I love doing that and will take any opportunity I can to do it.
Most fun with rare pairs like HidaHina.
Tumblr media
Science Fiction?
I have kicked around a SasoHina that revolved around robots a few times. Like either Sasori is a robot that he himself made, or he makes a robot and is watching through it, OR Hinata is a robot and doesn't know it. - So SasoHina for pairing.
I am open to ideas for this or something similar.
I will probably never do space/spaceship (though I love me some OG and Next Gen Star Trek), but I did once write the beginnings of a Doctor Who fic that I never went back to because it was a crossover between Doctor Who and the less watched spin-off of The Sarah Jane Adventures and was just a little too niche. Where the story was about Jenny (the doctor's clone daughter) and Luke Smith (Sarah Jane's adoptive son) having adventures.
Tumblr media
Fantasy AUs?
I have done a few Fantasy AUs.
Death Wishes has grim reapers and ghosts. The Witch and The Scarecrow has magic.
But there are MANY more in my concepts list. I like playing with Fantasy AUs probably the most.
This year, I am putting out a few rare pairs that I haven't before, and a few of those stories are planned to be Fantasy AUs.
In no specific order, these are all fantasy ideas in my concepts list (and some of these - won't tell you which - are upcoming soon)
Demon contracts (in a few forms), wish-granting fairies, modern witches, ghosts, book characters coming to life, mermaids, Beauty and the Beast Aus, luck transfer, being forgotten by everyone but one person daily loop, deity meddling, and dimension swaps
and pairings? Across my roster.

15(ish) prompts for the 14th Doctor
1.  The long awaited return of Bessie
1a. The Doctor starts insisting on Driving Kate everywhere in Bessie while reminiscing about her dad.  ("Good old Brigadier. Always could recognize me no matter what face I had, and absolutely nothing could fluster him. He once met me in my Sixth face, the one with that incredibly colorful coat (not sure what I was thinking back then), when I was traveling with Evelyn, and without missing a beat, said (switches to an impression of him) “To judge by the clothes, the unexpected arrival, and the manner of your greeting, I can only conclude that I know exactly who you are. I take it there’s a police box somewhere in the vicinity.")*
2.  Rose getting to see the Tardis wardrobe Room (it’s like Narnia in here!)
3. Rose (and eventually Donna) trying to get the Doctor to teach them a little Gallifreyan, so he could have someone to actually speak his native language with
3a. Donna and Rose trying to get him to talk about Gallifrey, in general (Because Timeless Child or not, The person we know as the Doctor did actually grow up on Gallifrey, looked into the Untempered Schism, graduated the Academy (if by the skin of his teeth), and earned the title of Time Lord)
4.  Rose introducing her friends to her weird alien uncle
5. The Doctor slowly taking apart every electrical appliance in the house in an attempt to “improve” it
6. The Doctor telling the Nobels about so many of his old friends   (Have I ever told you about Romana?  She was a time lord like me, and she was remarkable lady. She traveled with me in my fourth face.  Eventually became Madam President of Gallifrey, etc)
7. Rose and Shawn realizing the TARDIS is alive
8. More Companion reunions!
9. The Doctor vs nosy neighbors
10. The doctor talks about that one time he got to actually talk to his oldest, most loyal, best friend in the universe, the TARDIS. Bonus points if they also learn that the doctor stole the TARDIS.  (Or was it the other way around?)
11. General Sarah Jane Adventures level alien shenanigans
12. Helping befuddled alien tourists navigate the strange customs of earth
13. Rose and her alien uncle getting into shenanigans
14. The Aliens have invaded Rose’s school.  They are actually pretty cool
15. A scene from the companion support group
* From the Spectre of Layton Moor audio drama.  Seriously, go listen to six and Evelyn stories, they are great.

Russell T Davies just announced Doctor Who spin-offs are incoming. The cinematic Whoniverse is coming!
“I thought the streaming platforms are ready, the spin-offs are ready; I always believed in spin-offs when I was there. I did Torchwood as a spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures as a spin-off.
"Those spin-offs declined when I left, and I can see why. And I very much left after 2008, when the money became scarce. I think that's fair enough for the public service broadcaster that the money is spent on other things." - Russell T Davies
Now that Disney is backing the budget, he plans to expand once again. (X)

AO3 Tag Game!
Tagged by @mvshortcut :) I did it here as well but now I'm doing it for this fandom/account bc I CAN (a lot of this will be directly copy/pasted if applicable im sowwy)
How many works do you have on AO3?
116. (Including snippet collections.) For this fandom/account. Far more if you count others,
What’s your total AO3 word count?
Okay this one it won't let me separate by pseud or fandom so you're just gonna have to live with being lumped in with all my MBS and a few other misc fics at "653,461". Didn't get the other accounts though. Man, I'm a mess
How many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
Okay, well, this one by nature is also not solely for this fandom,

timeline? i don't know her (68)
That's actually 6 bc I made a mistake but I've already color coded them so whatever
Do you respond to comments?
I really try to, but then I get all in my head about it and/or am really really tired and put it off so long it then feels like it would be weird to respond because it's been forever. However, if there's a direct question or something I want to address/respond to, as in, I have something particularly unique to say or a question to answer, then I'll usually respond really fast.
And this fandom's smaller so if I'm slightly more likely to respond 😭
Also when I know who's commenting personally which is al ot more likely
What’s the fic with the angstiest ending you’ve ever written?
Honestly, I'm not a huge unhappy ending person, but. uhhh
solo
bring me home (in a blinding dream)
hollowed
seasalt
checkmate
dark side of the moon
wretched clarity
cruel kindness
green-eyed monster
the naming of cats
curled & crushed
oops
I didn't even look at the snippet collections lkgfhjh
Do you write crossovers?
Not often, but I rotate them in my brain. Honestly, though, I'm more inclined to write a fusion than a crossover proper. And even so, I tend to just be thinking about it rather than actually writing it. I've only written one crossover in recent memory (recently, that is) and it was mostly a joke about a shared actress made into actual angst. :)
Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
Yeah lmao
Do you write smut?
😏 ......not for this fandom. That I'd post anyway
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
👁️👁️ not. Directly in this fandom
Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes!! also not in this fandom
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
In this fandom? Nicholas/Milligan. Overall, ever? Recency bias/hyperfixationitis says whatever I'm into the most at the moment. But generally for MBS I prefer gen (although I've written a lot of Nicholas/Milligan, that's partially because it's blissfully easier to find gen already)
What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
:(
SO many
Particularly minotaur, the dearly departed, and the "paralyzed" series. Oh and the hanahaki AU
What are your writing strengths?
I think I can write a really funny string of dialogue, and I'm also fond of fun metaphors, both in the elegant poetic way and in the more Douglas Adams/Terry Pratchett way (which is to say, still potentially elegant but also comedic as hell)
What are your writing weaknesses?
Motivating myself to write anything; being overly self-indulgent
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?
I'm extremely bad at linguistics in general, so if I must include someone talking in another language in my fic, I think I'd tend to cheat and do italics or some other indication that this is 'in another language' (ie "Where are you going?" she asked in Russian), but that's admittedly a lazy approach. But I also think it's probably better than butchering it with an auto-translator? Also, when people just include the translation in the end notes, even with a link (although that makes it marginally better) it breaks the flow of the story and makes it hard to read. Making an effort to at least match grammar is good (which I would do if it was for longer than a single scene, probably) but I think the best solution is when people know what they're doing and like, have an actual translation with a little html code so you can click on it and it reveals what it means? Or if you're clever, revealing what it means using context around it, but that has its own limitations. So that both like, uses the actual language and doesn't break up the flow. It balances accessibility, flow, and respect for the other language in question well. But you've got to both know what you're doing with the language (either asking someone/hiring someone/knowing the language yourself) and the html (although there are guides for that you'd have to spend time figuring it out + know it exists in the first place to look). And this is fanfiction, something we ultimately do for free in our spare time, so the lazy approach, I think, can be understandable. Maybe not in every context, but it's not worth stressing a lot over in a few random lines or anything, you know? It is really cool when people do know a language well enough to include it properly in a fic, though, it can say a lot about a character or dynamic; and their background(s) and like. it's neat :)
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Ever? Doctor Who. In a shitty little notebook in middle school. Then there was some Star Trek (both TNG and TOS) and Avatar: the Last Airbender and Marvel and such, and then Supernatural (my first smut? extremely terrible Destiel smut. rip) and I think the first thing I ever posted was Welcome to Night Vale? Not sure.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written so far?
Oh, man. I have no idea. Here's a few favorites from this fandom:
cain's lament
minotaur
shades of green
a hope in hell

Disclaimer: This post is going to be Anti Moffat for anyone who’s reading and is a fan you’ve been warned.
“The Wedding of River Song” is the thirteenth episode and aside from being a boring episode it was, unfortunately, also my least favorite season finale.
The Good: I haven’t watched Classic Who, but I do know the Brigadier is a very important person in the Doctor’s life and I saw his character in one of the episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures. Having his death in the show to reflect that of the actor’s was incredibly beautiful, and I liked that it seemed to be the moment the Doctor realized it was his time reminding me a lot of Ten and Wilf. The different settings where time is happening all at once looked really cool, and there were some funny jokes especially with Emperor Churchill.
The Bad: I think the reason I feel like I don’t know Amy and Rory that well is b/c instead of developing them as characters for two seasons now we keep getting fake/different versions of them, there’s always a plot twist of “oh actually that wasn’t the real version of them” and frankly it’s tiring. This finale felt like a rehashed poorly done version of previous concepts. All the “voices” saying they’ll help reminded me of everyone thinking of the Doctor at the end of S3, and the different realities reminded me of the end of S5. The Doctor leaving Dorium’s head again in that place was horrible, why not take him to his home or at least some fancy hotel?
The River storyline being the absolute worst:  That comment about how River spends her days in prison and her nights with him was disgusting, if she didn’t really kill him why on earth is the Doctor making sure she’s serving time?? The fact that we’ve seen her slip in and out of prison easily so many times leads to the horrifying implication that the Doctor just takes her out whenever he pleases like she’s some sort of...idk but that was awful. I genuinely did go into Moffat’s era trying to keep an open mind when it came to her character b/c I was under the impression it was going to be an interesting love story with their timelines not matching. But this has fallen apart in the most horrible ways with everything regarding River seemingly being tacked on w/o any actual thought. How in the world did River convince Ten to trust her in the library? He said that she knew his name, but here he didn’t actually tell her his name...unless later he tells her to fulfill that paradox. But even then I really thought that he would grow to love her in his own way, but the way he treated her here was awful “I don’t want to marry you” and “you embarrass me”. The fact that she loves him when he acts like that with her is probably my least favorite thing Moffat could have ever done. On that same note River saying no one loves the Doctor more than her would feel far more impactful if we actually saw them interacting more in a healthy way, instead we’re just constantly told that they are going on trips and we’re to assume they enjoy spending time with each other when on screen I’ve never once gotten the sense that he actually cares for her. She wanted to rewrite time itself instead of killing him which I suppose I could understand her doing if they’d had a more believable love story, but her relationship with him seems more obsessive and toxic than anything. She knew them touching would cause time to move forward and fix itself, but she wouldn’t allow it until he married her essentially blackmailing him. And Eleven only marrying her to whisper his escape plan seemed horribly manipulative as well, it’s obvious it matters far more to her than him and for him to play into that obsession seems really dark. And I’m not even sure if that counts as their wedding if he didn’t tell her his name? I don’t know enough about the lore, but I was under the impression from the library episode that it was a requirement.
The Unresolved: Apparently there’s a bigger story to tell with the Trenzalore stuff.
Overall I feel disappointed, I have now watched six series of DW and my biggest concern is that I was so unbelievably bored during this episode and several others in this series. The Doctor telling Churchill how everything played out felt like someone was reading the script out to me instead of me watching things play out on screen. I had a really rough time getting through these episodes, but I’m still staying optimistic that it was a dud and next series is better. I think the thing I feel the saddest about is that I don’t find myself loving the characters as much as I used to in the past, Amy has really grown on me, but even then I don’t feel the same attachment I do to the other companions I’ve seen.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Forty-eight. But I have a lot more fic on other archives, such as Ff.net and a Teaspoon and an Open Mind.
2. What's your total AO3 wordcount?
1,075,804
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I don’t write for all of them at the same time, but I have over the years written fic for Doctor Who, Hornblower, Sherlock Holmes and Phantom of the Opera.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Shafts of Light (160, Phantom of the Opera)
TLC (106, Doctor Who)
Despatches (100, Hornblower)
Blood on the Snow (99, Phantom of the Opera)
Here Comes The Rain Again (91, Phantom of the Opera)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes; if someone has taken the time to comment it’s only polite to acknowledge it, though sometimes it takes me a while to work out what to say.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Possibly Hello, Goodbye. The Eighth Doctor briefly escapes the Time War when the TARDIS leaves him in San Francisco with Grace, but they both know he has to go back.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Define a happy ending. A lot of my stuff is missing scenes and what ifs; I tend to leave things hanging on an upbeat note or with a lead-in to something else.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not so far, thank goodness.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No. Suggestiveness on occasion, but nothing more.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Sometimes, though I don’t think I’ve ever written one I’d call crazy. I’ve crossed Doctor Who with Hornblower a couple of times for logical reasons (Paul McGann having been in both), and also with Sherlock Holmes, Ashes to Ashes and Phantom of the Opera. Let’s face it, you can cross Doctor Who with anything! I did once have Sherlock Holmes turn up in Sarah’s attic in The Sarah Jane Adventures as well.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I’m aware, no.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not to my knowledge.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Never. I’m honestly not sure I could work with someone else.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
I don’t have one.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don’t have what I’d call WIPs that I work on for a long time as I invariably finish one thing before I start the next. I’ve got a lot of odd scenes and aborted drafts but that’s all they are; they’re unlikely to ever be worked into anything more as I’ve either run out of steam or changed tack completely.
16. What are your writing strengths?
A good grasp of grammar so I’m told, dialogue, and also apparently a decent ear for voices.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Repetition of the same phrases from one fic to another, the occasional tortuous sentence and I do lack the desire to take risks. Also plotting; I usually only have a vague idea of where I’m going and rarely write anything down so when I write longer fic I’m always flying by the seat of my pants.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I try to avoid it if I can as it would involve using Google translate and that’s never a good idea.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Doctor Who, online at least. And I’m still doing it 20 years later!
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
I honestly don’t think I could choose. It varies all the time.

Tagged by @restlesshush - thank you!
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway!
1. stay with me (Endeavour)
The world spins.
2. fireworks (Cabin Pressure)
The fireworks erupted over Fitton, and Carolyn, in the rather fresh absence of a husband to watch them with, looked round for Arthur.
3. birthdays (Cabin Pressure)
“Mum, did you know—”
4. mismatch (Cabin Pressure)
Carolyn had phoned her mother afterwards, having as she did the vague notions that a) one phoned one’s mother in times of great change, and b) getting divorced from one’s husband of six years more or less constituted a time of great change.
5. the past (Cabin Pressure)
“If I’d found you sooner,” Herc began.
6. the skill, the wit (Cabin Pressure/ROTE Fusion)
Once Carolyn had grudgingly agreed that the strange little man could scrub the deck for his passage, and Arthur had shown him to what passed for a hammock, Douglas waited wearily for the storm to rain down on him.
7. five letters (Cabin Pressure)
Herc was clearly waiting for her to say something, so Carolyn had a lovely time, making herself a coffee, slow as you like - studiously not asking anything, staring pleasantly back into the questioning eyes that lifted to see her over his mug of green tea.
8. Peace Treaty (Cabin Pressure)
“I hear there’s been a peace treaty,” said Noor, eyes glittering.
9. known for it (Cabin Pressure)
“If only I could transplant it,” Martin said, mock-ruefully, contemplating the reflection of his chin in the tiniest mirror of the tiniest bathroom in the tiniest cottage in all the South Tyrol.
10. Left (Cabin Pressure)
It wasn’t that her father had died when she was dreadfully young, but what he had been was dreadfully busy – and so Theresa’s actual memories of him were fleeting, and had taken the form of either bona fide formal occasions, or domestic scenes made to seem so by the king’s sheer unfamiliarity with his children.
+Bonus because I really thought this batch would have more fandom variety 🤣
11. mutual friends (Sarah Jane Adventures)
From the moment her mother set eyes on Sanjay Ramakrishnan, across the room at Sarah Jane’s New Year’s Eve party, Rani resigned herself to her fate: not a permanent one, of course, but the temporary fate of having to have a very awkward conversation with Luke’s university roommate at some point in the near future.
Tagging: @sircarolyn, @biancaicaras, @linguini17, @merlinsearsarebeloved, @gold-from-straw, @unionjackpillow, @turnedherbrain, @rocknvaughn, @accal1a, @elvendorkinfinity
(It turns out I am very bad at remembering who writes, but I made it to 10😂)

-͟͟͞☆ I ship you with Elijah! Literally, the first person I thought of when I was reading your chart was Elijah. You're looking for a secure relationship and put a lot of thought into the people you care about. Elijah exemplifies the principles of a gentleman. He will always respect you and show you love when you don't feel it yourself. When you decide to open up, he'll welcome it with open arms.
-͟͟͞☆ Headcanons:
Sometimes you guys go on dates and you spend the whole time talking about your hyperfixations, and Elijah absolutely loves it (he loves anything you care about).
He mentioned wanting to learn about a specific thing once, so you got him a book all about it with all your notes scribbled in the margins. He almost cried (but he didn't bc it's Elijah and he never shows emotions smh. btw you should work with him on that)
-͟͟͞☆ Tropes:
doesn't talk to anyone (him) x talks to everyone (you)
responsible parents
-͟͟͞☆ Playlist:

-͟͟͞☆ I ship you with Allison Argent! At first, you might find Allison abrasive because of her strong beliefs and courageous attitude, but you'll learn to appreciate it as you respect the fact that she stands up for what she believes in. She's an incredibly welcoming person though, and enjoys hearing about your hobbies and seeing the art you create. You'll feel wholly protected with her around.
-͟͟͞☆ Headcanons:
You introduced Allison to some of your favorite video games, but she got way too competitive and everybody agreed it was best if she didn't play them again.
If you go to a party, you guys have a secret code for when you feel overwhelmed and want to leave. It makes you feel welcome.
-͟͟͞☆ Tropes:
"you annoy me but also i kinda want to kiss you"
you fell first, but they fell harder
-͟͟͞☆ Playlist:

-͟͟͞☆ I ship you with the Tenth Doctor! Literally so perfect for each other. Oh, you want to both go back and forth sharing whatever trivia is in your heads? You bet your ass you're doing it for hours on end. On adventures, you're always finishing each other's sentences, and getting excited over things no one seems to care about. That's okay though! Truly the only thing that matters is you have each other.
-͟͟͞☆ Headcanons:
You didn't realize how much all you wanted was for someone to hold you until you had the worst nightmare of your life and woke him up for comfort (peep my fic hehe)
You meet Sarah Jane Smith and the first thing she does is turn to the Doctor and say, "you did it. you found your perfect match."
-͟͟͞☆ Tropes:

Genuine Question. Why are you and so many other people deeply upset when TV shows and movies kill off characters when their long-standing actors die. I have always thought that is the most respectful thing that can be done. Honoring an actor by retiring a character. Am I wrong to think that way?
If the shows or movies were to handle it respectfully and not copy the actors cause of death for the characters, I would agree with you that its respectful, speaking as someone who while I have issues with Farewell Sarah Jane, I will acknowledge they handled Sarah's death respectfully and never once mentioned how she died, just giving us her funeral and how many people whose life's she's impacted in a positive way.
But sadly nowadays, shows and movies really seem to vary in how they handle the characters deaths, sometimes just seeming to copy the actors cause of death. MCU is the biggest example as look, I get it, Wakanda Forever was always going to be difficult with Chadwick's death, but quick question: when killing off T'Challa, why did he have to die from some incurable disease that not many knew he was suffering from, disturbingly similar to Chadwick dying from cancer which sadly has no cure yet but was confirmed to have not told many non-family friends he had it??? Why couldn't it be any other cause of death??? Like yes the movie handles the funeral and grief well, but the cause of death being similar to Chadwick is just gross in my opinion. And then you got Descendants where...honestly, it just came off as them wanting to get Carlos out of the way so they can have no shame in continuing to milk a franchise that should have ended at the third film. Like yes, I'll give them this: they didn't outright say his cause of death so hey they didn't copy Cameron Boyce's cause of passing....but the fact that in Royal Wedding, a set up for future Descendants stuff, implies Carlos', Cameron's character who was alive last we saw in Descendants 3 (as it was one of last few projects Cameron had filmed), is now somehow dead cause leaving Descendants finished was just hard for Disney. And now you got Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Once & Always where...so far from the specials description Minh, Trini's daughter, seems to be out for revenge after a tragedy took place and in behind the scenes photos, Minh along with Billy and Zack seem to be at a cemetery and on a hiking trails website, someone in their review, uploaded a photo of a upturned car while confirming Power Rangers was filming it in that area....I'm sorry, but if they not only proceed to kill Trini but also proceed to kill her in a similar way to Thuy Trang's cause of death, it is beyond disrespectful and feels gross of Power Rangers to do as up until this point it had been clear for them to avoid associating Trini with cars, but now its worrying if they just stopped caring about that.
And I really need to ask this: even if the actor is dead, why does the character need to die with them??? Sarah Jane Adventures ended on Sarah Jane still being alive with a later Doctor Who comic confirming she was alive still, it was only in 2020 lockdown adventures they confirmed she was dead. And this is really only something I learnt from a lost media video, but Father Ted when Ted's actor sadly died during production of the finale, still ended with Ted being alive. Hell, let's go back to Power Rangers quickly: Rita's Japanese actress, Machiko Soga, had sadly passed away during production of Power Rangers: Mystic Force, so what did Power Rangers do? They confirmed Rita since being turned good at the end of Zordon era, had become the Mystic Mother who appears in Mystic Force, keeping the character alive even with the actress's death.
Like, I do get sometimes killing the character off (Princess Leia coming to mind....even if her death was still badly done), but at the same time, it wouldn't hurt sometimes to leave the character alive and if you must kill them off, do it in a respectful manner and for the love of all things holy, please don't copy the actors cause of death. That's just gross to do and only serves to upset already mourning fans of the actors.

...I literally have zero explanation for this concept design beyond new Doctor Who trailer equals me remembering my companions au where I imagine my various OCs travelling with the doctor, and remembering Malachi in the AU and imagining him appearing in the 60th specials as well and result is this concept design for him in the specials.
"...Doctor?"
Having travelled with the Doctor ever since an adventure with the time lord and Rose, Malachi spent a-lot of his teenage years running and running with the Doctor, Rose, Martha and Donna from various threats as they saved the day, and while he enjoyed a-lot of it (though some of it such as dealing with the Master he would not recommend) and saw the Doctor, Rose, Martha and Donna as family, Malachi at sixteen, would ultimately leave the Doctor after stopping the Dalek's attempt to destroy reality, taking up Sarah Jane's offer to come find her and as a result, would become Malachi Smith. And sure, even if he did still have to deal with aliens with Sarah, Luke, Rani, Clyde and eventually Sky, he at least had a normalish life finally, and as an adult, would go into Art.
But while Malachi had believed he'd seen his Doctor's face for the last time when the Doctor saved Luke from being hit by a car, a familiar face shows up again when while Malachi is looking into alien activity, and he soon finds himself on another adventure with the Doctor and Donna once more as they face an immortal who may just outdo the Trickster in Malachi's list of worst enemies to face.

The Sarah Jane Adventures, S01E05-06: The Warriors of Kudlak (2007)
Uhhh warning I got super carried away screencapping this. It would be worthy of giffing if I had the capability, there’s a lot of campy gurning.
---
This is some....CBBC Doctor Who spin-off?
The 'Mistress' in a laser-quest style game is getting some alien bug guy to abduct children for her. Sjsjssjjddkffff OH my god, Mark Grantham owns the premises and is......seeking out kids on the street to come and play Mr Kudlak's game.
HEY KIDS. I'm a huge East End geezer brandishing a pair of pliers, come play my laser quest game!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blimey he's had more to say in the first few minutes than he had in like. All seven episodes of Doctors? Mr Kudlak the bug alien guy has already told him to shut up :') Dork.
All the children in this speak like aliens what is going on
Shsjskjsffff.
He needs to find better grade children and stop mocking the mistress! No one is irreplaceable!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sarah Jane and her weird child friend have made a Cloudbuster that makes it rain jelly beans. Wilhelm Reich would be impressed!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Making creepy sounds of appreciation about the 'mummy's boy' doing well! And apparently Mr Kudlak smells bad when he's happy, hence the chewing gum addiction?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfazed by the Star Wars reference, oily greasy awful vibes, but god we're all having such fun here :')
"Mr Grantham and his partner Mr Kudlak" THIS IS PUNISHMENT FOR ME AND ME ALONE FOR SUGGESTING BRASSO FUCKS ALIENS
"The ultimate warrior of the future is always on guard...for surprise attacks!" *wink* 💀💀💀
He catches Sarah Jane and her young assistant sneaking round his office:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"D'you know why people come to Combat 3000? They come for the GUNS."
Tumblr media
Absolute mentalist. Love him and his alien bug boyfriend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's impressed that she's seen an alien gun before.
"Children. Adore. Wargames."
Tumblr media
"A conscience is like a stone in your shoe. You cannot begin to imagine the relief once you get rid of it."
Tumblr media
Unhinged. Fantastic.
Too unhinged to remember to...shoot Sarah Jane when she reaches for her lippy as a 'last request'. Oopsie, that's a sonic screwdriver! His little link to Kudlak is broken...
Part II
Episode preview looked mad I can't wait.
Uhhhh Mr Kudlak is unhappy. Screenshotted this moment entirely by accident:
Tumblr media
Oh dear Mr Kudlak has turned rather mean. He thinks killing the useless Mr Grantham would do honour to both their species :')
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luckily for Mr Grantham, Mistress cares more about getting more children, and he seems to think he has a solution to their security problems....
Tumblr media
It involves going to Sarah Jane’s house with his gun to kill her? Sarah Jane is happy for the opportunity to study new forms of human low-life - and he's into that.
"You are a cool old bird, I'll give you that."
Tumblr media
Apparently trafficking children to warzones is what makes the galaxy go round :') who hurt you, Mr Grantham?
Tumblr media
Outwitted by a child! How fitting.
Sarah Jane saying how Mr Grantham's going to help them: *brandishes cable ties with glee*
Tumblr media
Uhhhhh why did they strip his jacket off, untuck his shirt and muss up his hair again?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why does he enjoy the experience of being cable-cuffed and held at gunpoint so much?
"So you're going to tell the police that I helped some butt-ugly alien send kids to war in a galaxy far, far away?" He finds this very amusing.
"I don't think a man like you will fare too well in prison." Sarah Jane what's THAT meant to mean???!! This is a kids’ show??
Tumblr media
Apparently that was enough to change his mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wish you could all here the gleeful chuckle he makes when he promises to get Sarah Jane and her assistant up to the alien ship - "Why wouldn't I? You're never going to come back?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The amount of fun this man is having should be illegal my god :')
Final analysis: "Worse than Kudlak" "He'll get what's coming to him. Eventually."
And we'll never know what that is! I had been hoping Kudlak was going to beam him up and recruit him into getting back all the child soldiers he’d already sent away, but I guess that’s another one for the fanfic I am not going to write.
Rating:
Dead? Probably not?
Evil? SO EVIL. Child trafficking. To a warzone. Fun FUNSIES.
Affects the plot? Well yeah, he’s abducting all those children!
Solid 4/5 again. I might have upped it if he’d had an epilogue. Awful man. Delightful. Keep doing those silly things with your face. Why are you so tall and such a pathetic meow meow all at once?
