#the same object (mapicc)

my reading of lifesteal season 4 is so personal and involved at this point that even if i was going to post more character analysis i would not know where to start. it would require footnotes to documents that don't exist. listen to luddites and lambs by everything everything and you'll get half of it though
#m#lifesteal#there is just such a compelling and clear thematic line between like. okay#first you need to just accept for me the idea that zam as a character is defined by being trapped running both towards and away from#the same object (mapicc)#and then you have to take mapicc as interchangeable with pain in general but specifically an inescapable normalcy of pain#which is caught up in something zam wants and knows he wants which is the “pure/natural” idyllic version of lifesteal#where every fight is fair competition#and what mapicc has done to hurt him more than the actual stalking and murder and all of that is that mapicc refused to fight him on even#ground (by literally invading and destroying his home so that everything becomes battlefield) in a way that offends his most deeply#held values. AND THEN he reads vitalasy's use of the exploits as trying to take that same thing he fundamentally values about lifesteal#away and he gets incredibly angry with vitalasy for hurting the server itself (pvp becomes functionally obsolete for a while there)#so he plays out the eclipse betrayal framing it in his own mind as another situation where he is the victim and vitalasy is the#manipulator/aggressor and falls back into the kind of jumpy paranoid behavior we as the viewer haven't actually seen from him in a very#long time now (late into eclipse when mapicc isn't an active threat anymore he really does stop jumping at shadows the way he used to)#and seems comforted by the familiarity of it if anything. because what vitalasy was asking of him that made him panic and reject it so#badly was to create a new pattern and step out onto unknown ground but he can't do it#and he retreats back to what he knows. so vitalasy isn't WRONG to read what zam does as victimizing himself#and forcing vitalasy into a villain role that is literally what he is doing#but vitalasy on the other end still has his own entire set of things he is not dealing with#and so the relationship created by these two people is doomed by their inability to look themselves in the eye more than any of the actual#facts of the relationship itself#and the thing zam wants lifesteal to be is not and has never been real. the thing vitalasy wants lifesteal to be is also antithetical to#its nature they are both wrong#but zam is wrong in that he wants to return to an idealized imagined past that does not actually exist#(see also vague historical allusions in his castle and his name and him trying after vi's death to cast off violence completely and return#to the land somehow. and the association created incidentally between stone tools and rudimentary technology)#and vitalasy is wrong in that he's trying to create something entirely new that nobody but him actually wants via the exploit#(see the way that once the exploit is 'out of the box' it can't be put back in and the course of the season is set in motion and any attemp#s to fight it and change that course are futile as allegorical to sudden technological advancement being met with violent opposition)

Transferring hearts is an extremely painful process, even if a Lifestealer chooses to withdraw it themself. Different members treat this pain a different way:
-Ash absolutely refuses to withdraw any of his hearts. Not for deals, not for allies, nothing. The only person he would ever think to put himself through that pain for is Red, and he would do it without hesitation. Luckily, that issue has never come up.
-Both Parrot and Spoke refuse to withdraw hearts in front of anyone. If they need to do it for a deal they’ll have the hearts withdrawn beforehand, and if an ally needs them the hearts will discreetly show up in a chest somewhere at their base.
-Zam and FlameFrags will try to exaggerate the pain so that their allies feel bad about asking them for hearts. Most of the time it’s sure to get them their hearts back, and if it doesn’t, they’ll yell at the person they gave them to about “You’re not going to repay me when I went through so much pain for you?”
-Clown and Kab will show the pain it causes them, not for the same reasons as Zam and Flame, but because they’re human too. Pain is human, and there’s nothing embarrassing about showing that. It makes people more scared of them because they not only have to be physically strong to handle the pain, but mentally strong to show that pain and not be embarrassed by it.
-Spepticle, Red, and 4C all go full slime mode. They will literally melt.
-Mapicc will throw the nearest object. He’s thrown his sword, shield, even a bucket of lava (that one did not turn out well) in any given direction, and it’s gotten to the point where he keeps snowballs and slimeballs on him at all times so that he doesn’t accidentally damage something important.
-Jumper will clench her fists to the point where her nails dig into her palms and draw blood. The pain in her palms distracts here from the rest of the pain.
-Branzy doesn’t flinch, which you wouldn’t expect from the “weakest” member of Lifesteal. However, he’s gotten killed/had to withdraw hearts so often that it just doesn’t phase him anymore.
-🧷 anon

funny thing about how i view the conflict in todays stream is that i view flame and wemmbu in very separate ways despite them doing essentially the same thing
in flames case:
i view his betrayal as ultimately a tragedy, their history all thrown aside due to a combination of wounded pride and genuine upset
if yall didnt see his chat for this stream it was actually really, really bad, like his chat is genuinely so fucking annoying oh my god and is a really good demonstration of why i think streamers should be mean to their chatters sometimes to so i actually wasnt at all surprised that he was so upset but i thought hed log off instead of acting out like this
he wanted respect but literally ruined the months long work of one of the few ppl that were willing to trust him over something that couldve been resolved if he just waited until september, but at the same time i can kinda understand why he was being so impulsive considering again his chat is Really bad, but at the end of the day that really shouldnt have been something you took out on one of your few allies like???? bruh even mocked zams storytelling as if he didnt do thee same shit as well 😭
honestly one of the reasons i was sad about his betrayal is cause it kinda sounded to me like he was genuinely about to cry at first??? maybe im just making shit up tho and he def stopped sounding like he was gonna cry after blowing up the spacewaffles tower lol
in wemmbus case:
i feel no pity for this man, he wanted conflict wherever he can get it and he got it! i think hes a lot like zam in that he just wants some attention and most importantly something to do but whatever happens to him next is his own fault lmao, i respect his honesty tho like hey he sucks but he knows what hes about at least lol
the fact that he still kept trying to get a commission from zam (or at least guilttripping him about it for lack of a better word) like bro i know you wanted to do a capitalism morality dilemma arc with zam but read the room my guy 😭
maybe hes at least a little mad that zam kept turning him away despite the fact he accepted a commission from mapicc of all ppl but like. bro. theres a reason zam called him a nightmare customer lmao
that being said you can tell hes not used to going this overboard considering he offered to help repair the tree when zam got upset lmao
idk i just thought his evilness was kinda funny, still hope he gets his shit kicked in spectacularly tho!
its funny, despite being acting like the shitty no reading comprehension version of abyss he gives me the exact same feeling of schadenfreude i did for minute back in s5 and i believe part of it is his mockery of lore and weird complicated dismissal of moral conflict particularly regarding zam
by weird complicated dismissal of moral conflict i mean both he and minute both tried to convince zam to see ''their side'' and ''reason'' but coming at it from an angle that completely misunderstands zam and when zam points it out they dismiss it and act like it means nothing because of their ''objective'' view of reality, spoiler alert! its not objective at all and they refuse to understand things from zams perspective cause they think hes just being unreasonable or something
idk overall i think their motivations for doing things are just kinda... shit lol
like ik theres some pretty obvious parallels that can be made with s5 here but the difference between the og players and flamebu aside from the lack of style and drama is that the og players waited several months before they started acting out the way they did and when they did start acting out tgey always made sure evryone who wanted to get involved Actually got involved rather than doing it while everyone was away plus their opps werent their own allies (except maybe pangi depending on how you look at it)

I have this au that’s kinda corrupt world + outlast trials twisted, centered around Mapicc
This guy goes through the motions of fighting for his life with limited stuff, adapting to new areas, completing unnecessary tasks, letting his rage and adrenaline fuel him to get out of being murdered and then at the same time being able to recognize when his sanity is slipping
Mapicc is quick to catch thing being able to do runs without many problems but he’s not going to let himself die to save a teammate he had gotten close with on the current run
He gets teammates a bunch of times when he runs through infested/twisted areas and he watches his teammates most of the time get trapped and if it is possible that doesn’t tax him, he saves them
He goes through losing many people but he also knows the closest ones to him aren’t dead. He picked to be close to the ones who even if they didn’t know what they were doing, still managed to live.
Once he had to run through an infected underground railway with Zam. He had met Zam before during a night run, apparently Zams sanity had fallen so fast with no way to restore it that Mapicc thought he would die from it until he escaped and the only other person who lived it was Zam.
Zam is completely used to insanity and when Mapicc offered his last disinfectant spray to him, he denied it and made Mapicc use it on himself instead. Zam lives on the border of complete insanity and it’s saved him many times, from him reacting to specific things and seeing real threats as insignificant enough to not stagger at them.
Mapicc learns a lot while travelling about. He bumps into Spoke at an abandoned lab who constantly has a stock of sprays to keep himself sane and healed. Spoke doesn’t care if he gets stabbed, as long as he’s still able to think clearly, he will live and Mapicc has seen it first hand. Spoke successfully gets his team through tough situations and Mapicc does not see him dying any time soon.
There are many pairs who function well together, relying on each other but Mapicc has seen the panic that rises when one gets too close to death. The other isn’t rational and loses themselves resulting in both of them dying. Mapicc learned to stop searching for a well matched pair, plus he is more intrigued by the solos.
Solos still care for whoever is with them that isn’t trying to hurt them but they still truly only trust themselves. Knowing themselves well enough to either help or abandon a team for an objective. Every solo Mapicc meets always has a memorable personality, he silently wishes to meet them again down the line.
Mapicc met Parrot, a guy who loves waiting games, in one of his worst runs. His night vision wasn’t working and most of his teammates did not know how to stop making noise. One of his teammates at the time was shoved towards him, making him fall back, breaking the wooden floor and falling straight into the basement.
Parrot had grabbed his leg and pulled him in a corner behind a shelf, saving him from whatever monsters/ brutal murderers that proceeded to jump down into the basement to follow the noise.
Mapicc knows he’s good at what he does cause he ends up in situations where some of his teammates should really leave him to rot but they still come back for him. He was told by a guy named Bacon that it was not out of pity or simply being teammates that he spent all his equipment on him but because he had a feeling that if Mapicc died there, the whole team wouldn’t be able to leave the place even after the objective.
It’s startling how many people Mapiccs met, he’s been doing this way too long but when he bumps into those solos, he learns something new every time.

Give. Also I’m not going to be able to read it tell like next week but I still want. (A mcyt and or beeduo fic would be preferred.)
:D
I dont have any bee duo fic ideas written down that I havent already made a fic for, but i have plenty of lifesteal ideas(I'm really into lifesteal rn, sue me)
"Fic about when ro was destroying the end island and he needs Terry to give him food. Hes sleep deprived and starved and paranoid, and that's the last straw. Hes panicky and thinks hes going to die, but he does get the food, and he just fucking breaks down.
Hurt/no comfort"
The hunger gnawing at his stomach barely surpassed his paranoia of death.
He hadn't slept in days, he couldn't really, and by now he fully ran out of food. He knew he didn't have any other option, Mapicc couldn't come back through and he couldn't die of hunger.
His only choice was to contact someone else -- he couldn't, he couldn't let anyone know his plan -- to give him food. He didn't think that was possible.
The rumble in his stomach pushed him to pull out his comm. Mapicc said Terry was an ally, but who could he really trust? Still, he didn't have another choice.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing thoughts, and started typing.
His heart raced and he found it harder to steady his breaths. He barely fumbled to press enter, and he instantly regretted it.
Sure, he was hungry and needed food, but was it worth the risk? Was it worth the risk to not do it? Cancelling would be more suspicious, and might even be worse.
The chances of Terrain going through the portal and killing him were likely -- he knew he was vulnerable, that was a mistake, no one can know that. Every second waiting on the obsidian made his heart beat faster and louder and everything was blurry and he felt so so dizzy.
The noise of the void was loud, the gentle fizzling that you adapt to now felt like it was tearing through him. The enderman shifting around nearby were too close and too much and he couldn't stand it.
He crumpled down to his knees, everything feeling so weak and dull -- he was a sitting duck to anybody coming -- he felt almost nauseous. His ragged breaths were loud and his sobs were worse, he doesn't remember when he started crying.
It was so much -- too much. He was going to die, he just knew it. He wasn't getting the food and he was gonna get a sword through his back and everyone would know what he was doing.
The next thing he knew he heard the sound of objects hitting obsidian. He immediately jolted up, though he was pretty much defenseless at this point -- it's not like he could regenerate health anyway -- but he didnt want to just let himself get killed. He glanced up to try and find someone, but he only found food.
Sacks of golden carrots were right in front of him, spilling over to the edge. He wasn't gonna die. He didn't die. Somehow his heart still beat and his lungs still were breathing in and out.
He wanted to laugh as he reached for them, but his throat was too dry and wet at the same time. And even as he took a bite out of the carrot he could hardly breathe, but he was alive and that was all that mattered.
#wow. writing.#didnt expect that.#garlic's writing snippets#ill probably post this to ao3 soon#lifesteal smp#roshambo beats creative blocks#roshambogames#panic attack#fanfiction

me like three days ago: wow, 85 pages of annotated vod links? that's too much to even look into much, oh well -- me now: does the 105 page version still exist on google's servers and can i see it, -- thank u for ur service, do you ever think about vitalsay accidentally giving planet zam's book (after psychologically torturing him for 1/2 hour) which he starts reading out, aloud, on the call! and gets halfway through before vitalasy stops him!and demands it back!! and 😭
AHAH! THIS IS HOW I GET YOU....! you're welcome :3> this is wonderful this is the best possible outcome.
and YES! i think about that stream in general all the time because it is vitalasy at possibly his weirdest ever, but specifically the way he approaches planet and planet's influence on zam is so interesting....
like, vitalasy has two conflicting responses to zam's betrayal in the immediate aftermath of it. he bounces between the idea that zam is doing this because he Likes to be victimized, where he's suddenly, briefly empathizing with ro & mapicc for the first time ever in questioning whether zam was "right" in that situation either, or just stuck putting himself in the same position over and over because he wants to feel like the persecuted underdog. and at the same time, before he gets mad, his first response to the betrayal was to ask who influenced zam. and that pops up again when he's arguing with planet going "this is Your fault. if you hadn't interfered we would have been FINE, he would have stayed with me!"
so in vitalasy's mind, zam is simultaneously a manipulative figure acting maliciously towards him, And someone incredibly easily influenced by other people, Being manipulated to act against him... he jumps through so many hoops to absolve himself of blame AND to absolve ZAM of blame, situationally ?
and that book is like ... it's zam lying to him. not maliciously, but it's zam lying about how he Felt. it's a weird object. it can just as easily be read as zam being manipulated into acting that way BY vitalasy, offering all of these "but i trust you! i trust you!" reassurances because of some pressure that has been put on him, in contrast to how it can also stand as proof of how hard zam tried to get vitalasy to stop questioning what he wanted, to just force him to cooperate already. they're so weird. i don't really have a larger point here i just like to talk about their problems.
#you aren't missing out on much with the longer version i promise you#all the vods/clips are still there it's just notes and stuff i deemed too embarrassing or analysis that got developed further#in my blog post#and like. screenshots and stuff#all of which would have hindered the utility of it i think#m#asks#lifesteal
