Many musicians who were possible thanks to their eras had their genres. For instance, vaporwave could've only prospered during the previous decade, yet I'm not going to mention a musician that did good work in that period alone. You see, Cat System Corp. – be honest that you already checked the link, before you read this post – continues to establish himself as one of the better players here, since he does interrogate what the genre actually suggests. News At 11, his most famous work, imagines that faithful day in September as being completely normal without the event we are familiar with. Of course, the idiom always stands in the shadow of 9/11, though very few in the brand tackle the latter.

Okay I’m about to make you go DEEP into those archives.

Who’s the first ever character you drew and how did they evolve as you started drawing more? 👀👀👀

First character was a Lock named Rippington. I eventually changed his name to Xahvin, because he was named after one of my fav smooth jazz bands at the time. Used to draw him frequently and he hasn't changed much. He is large for a lesser will and is a barely tempered, seething ball of outrage. He acts as diplomat to a particularly contentious empire that alternatively keeps trying to assassinate him and bury him in unnecessary paperwork. He's scarred up for reasons, half probably from the murder attempts and half because he's combative and has tussled with other Locks in the past. Riker (Archaeon) is one of his agents, the hate is mutual.

He also dislikes Scott, the Team, and all Traders. Kitra is still his Bonded Companion and about the only peaceful thing in his existence. Outside of her, he has a fairly agreeable relationship with Vel, a human that was lent to him by Movallo (diplomat to another empire) to help with diplomat duties. Vel earns his respect and they get along OK.

I used to lowkey be a smooth jazz hater (For typical jazzhead reasons. Didn't help that my initial exposure was Ken*ny G lmao) but I've come around as the years have gone on.

7/21/23.

The Five Year Plan were a Bristol, England band whose members went onto bands like Heavenly, The Beatnik Filmstars among others. It's always interesting to listen to the pre-bands of indie semi-gods. Rob Pursey (Heavenly, Swansea Sound) and Tim Rippington (The Beatnik Filmstars, The Charlie Tipper Rebellion) founded the band as teens. It's the classic story of learning to play instruments together and finding a sound.

The band wrote and recorded "1985" but it never released. A couple of years ago they reformed and "properly" re-recorded the album, but added no new sounds. We posted their 2014 compilation CD release "Peacetime Broadcast" back in 2016. A lot of the comparisons remain - The June Brides, Orange Juice, Monochrome Set. This has a decided C86 sound.
