COMMA BUT.#rewatching this episode i thought this was way better than i remembered#like for a season opener it's still low- but i'd rank is similarly to welcome to the hellmouth or when she was bad#so it's a decent buffy episode.#i thought the reopening of SD high works better in this episode than for the rest of the entire season#and after the events of 'grave' this episode gives me exactly what i wanted in terms of the dawn/buffy dynamic#it's very unfortunate that the rest of the season doesn't really carry on buffy's promise to show dawn the world#but this premiere really captures that essence#rewatching this episode did lure me into a false thought that i had possibly misjudged s7. then i watched beneath you right after and went.#no. still bad.

like take a look at this goofy alien guy: hes an alc//h//lic, he has traits of a multiple personality disorder, hes an addict, he has very clear abandonment issues and went on a family bender, he smokes; all those things right there are DEFINITELY trauma responses like he clearly has LOTS of trauma he isnt properly dealing with
he even keeps his dad in the smiths freezer and takes a bite of it every year on his bday for gods sake like he aint right in the head

Thinking about how EP 5 was so Stizzy Coded
#izzy hands#and 1-3 was edizzy#but honestly why did they give izzy so better moments with stede and ed than gb had with eachother#like there were a few decent moments#but none of them beat izzy and stede with the cursed suit and the ed and izzy gun scene#honestly 1-3 & 5 are my only valid eps of s2#4 & 6 had good moments that unfortunately went nowhere/came out of nowhere and thus fall flat for me#ep 5 lives in its own imaginary universe where the rest of the season never happens#and we have a stede and izzy training plot as well as an ed reconnects with the crew plot for the rest of the show#and those happening together builds a strong crew that stops ricky / whatever villain#everytime I see that gifset of izzy giving the 😉👌 to stede and stede gives a big smile my heart grows

the problem with choosing the templars vs mages in daos circle quest is like... if u do everything right, the templars are objectively wrong (as they always are), the mages are perfectly fine and there are no consequences to saving them sbbshs
#the rest of the main quests do a decent job with making the outcome of the big choices have pros and cons#not that one#showing they didnt know how to write their main worldbuilding detail from day one shshshs
