i saw someone point out the frequency with which liberals back social justice movements... how, for instance, when ferguson happened under obama it was not popular and there were many, many liberals who found the blm movement, in a sense, "in violation of [liberal] sensibilities" (when liberalism as a rule does not challenge the status quo, only maintains it and sees any call for revolution or real change as disruptive or 'bad for optics' and therefore not acceptable) but then when trump became president and he opposed blm a lot more liberals decided that the blm movement had merit because they viewed it from a team-sports perspective rather than a worldview based on morals and an understanding of the systems in place in the U.S. - that it was more comfortable for them to operate from a "trump bad" basis rather than "the american justice system and the police are inherently white supremacist, which are inherently, automatically, and always violent"

+ that, if trump was president while israel is carrying out its genocide, liberals would have NO problem denouncing israel and demanding for a ceasefire because they're comfortable operating from the 2-party system basis, NOT from a framework based on material conditions or factors or any acknowledgement or analysis of imperialism, colonialism, or capitalism. but because biden is a democrat, and democrats are supposed to be "the decent party" "the lesser evil" "more respectable" when, in functionality - in real practice, they don't want to disrupt the status quo. (which is not to say you should vote for republicans; that's not what i'm saying. none of us have said it.) we're pretty much already there. it's 2003 all over again, with the patriot act and all. the american war machine is pumping out racist, orientalist, pro-colonial, pro-genocide propaganda on behalf of the ethno-state america and its allies have backed since the so-called state's inception. people are being doxxed, fired, harassed, and attacked for visibly supporting palestine/opposing israel. islamophobic hate crimes are on the rise; a 6 year old boy was murdered not one month ago, an arab doctor in texas was stabbed to death. antisemitism is on the rise as well, thanks to the conflation of antisemitism with anti-zionism (which nazis have and will attempt to co-op in order to 'justify' + then act on their antisemitism, racism, and genocidal worldviews). our government is silencing people, brutalizing protestors, and arming and funding an ethno-state committing genocide - everything that would have been called fascist if it was under trump. but because it's a *democrat* liberals place "vote blue no matter who" and "optics" over the extremely basic moral stance that "genocide is wrong and people have the right to self-determination, autonomy, and life". arabs and muslims are already so dehumanized in the west that liberals (whether they consider themselves liberals or not) consider it an inconvenience to talk about the ongoing genocide that is happening with the blessing of OUR government. in this they expose their selfishness, the shallowness of their morals, their chauvinism, and their racism/orientalism/islamophobia/et cetera.

for example, if you see israeli troops waving a gay pride flag and the israeli state touting its support of gay people while said iof soldiers are murdering men, women, and children en masse every single day and you somehow????? think that because gay people are the ones doing the killing or a state claims to support gay people is doing the killing is ok then 1) you have fallen for pinkwashing propaganda and 2) that you find the murder of palestinians, or any people, permissible by a colonial force that uses causes liberals may genuinely care about in order to disguise, whitewash, or "lessen" the severity of the injustices it does unto usually black and brown people outside of the U.S., then you are just as bloodthirsty and depraved as anyone you would personally assign those descriptors of.

once again, it goes back to resorting to a team-sport understanding of the world rather than approaching it from a material one.

i think draco is in part a product of his incredibly privileged upbringing, the views of his parents, and up until a certain point having had absolutely zero consequences for his actions. he's spoiled! he parrots his father to a ridiculous degree! he's racist, classist, fascist, etc etc etc but this is not the aspect of his character that i care about tbh bc jkr was so bad at addressing any of these things in a meaningful way that there's no point in it for me. no one except hermione gives a fuck about house elves. lmao. yk

basically im not here in h/d wanting to make draco "good enough" for harry. i'm not big on draco-needs-redeeming stories, especially if this is a precursor to the relationship. i would like to be shown what he's like as an adult, what changes in him and what doesn't, but i want to see that over the course of them falling in love.

the draco i'm interested in has fucked around and found out, pretty much. in the process of understanding himself he's lost his understanding of his parents. he struggles to reconcile loving people who have failed him. he struggles to unlearn. he's prideful, he's jealous, he's a coward. he's arrogant, he's insecure. he's still a product of the society he's in, as are they all, as are we all. he's still prejudiced bc that's a lifelong thing. you don't reach a goal post with this stuff, but i'm interested in him trying. you can fall in love with someone who's trying.

but i don't want that to be the whole of why harry loves him. i think there's a lot to fall in love with and i want to be shown that. and if it takes time, good. if it's not easy, good. if they're not perfect, good.

truly. i have closely observed this situation and listened to both sides and theres a lot of different opinions that can co exist and theres a lot of complexity to them.

one particular thing that has bothered me and made me uncomfortable is the projection of quackity as this scheming conniving figure. its gross. him having to explain that hes had previous experiences like this where he keeps any sort of bad situation with another creator private and that in turn has made him perceived as more manipulative is so sad. and this isnt surprising obviously since this is something ive witnessed. but overall i think with the internet nowadays theres a large mindset that everything needs to be public information and shared with the audience while they preach to solve things in the dms. people only care for a show and to watch creators destroy themselves. thats what twitter is and what a lot of people actively strive to do on that platform. specifically in regards to leak communities.

everyone should be aware enough that theyre allowed to criticize quackity and the decisions he’s made that people may not agree with. he acknowledges that himself. but to paint him as anything other then human and someone who has deeply fucked up reaches that level where it is racism. i dont think many people quite realize micro aggressions when they see them. so theres that. and then theres obviously the extremes of the situation when it came to the doxxing and death threats. people actively celebrating and saying it surely is an okay thing to spread because well he fucked up right? hypocrisy. this goes the same way for any admin or worker involved the situation that has been sent and told the same.

this entire situation has proved to me that nobody knows how to properly handle anything or how to properly react to anything and choosing instead to immediately jump to those extremes mentioned in the name of activism and moral superiority.

anyways support the admins. listen to their stories. criticize media you consume in a constructive manner. call out xenophobia and racism when you see it. and treat people like the humans they are. they will all make mistakes each side has made a mistake. yes this also applies to the people in the community. think for more than a second before you post anything for fucks sake.

Sticking it to the Government: “Drive,” Antisemitism, and the Antiauthoritarianism of Fools (3166 words)

Buckle up and put it into high gear, folks! This is a post analyzing Season 6 Episode 2 “Drive” and its current popularity on my dash as of writing this post. Spoiler alert: This is one of my least favorite episodes (up there with “First Person Shooter” and “En Ami”) and I am very skeptical of its resurgence right now. This post will include an analysis of the episode, placing it within the larger meta-textual context of the show’s treatment of conspiracy and how Mulder in particular is sopping wet with antisemitic tropes. Then I will move on to evaluate the current popularity of one line in particular on Tumblr (“You’ve got to stay alive if you want to stick it to the government”), what that line is responding to in the current American context, and why we should be critical of its application in this moment. Please don’t reply telling me that it’s my fault for reading into this and that it’s not that deep! It is.

The Episode (with Analysis)

Im going to only briefly mention pretty much every Scully scene, not because I don’t love our girl, but because the point of the episode and my problem with it lies entirely in Crump’s scenes. In fact, many of Scully’s scenes are wonderfully atmospheric and show off what a badass she is. They are the best parts of the episode and for that they will be sidelined. This post is already going to be way too long so I need to be economical where I can be.

We open on a broadcast chase scene, which is a very nice moment of realism. Thank you, Vince. Crump is driving with his wife (Vicky) in the backseat of a stolen car. They think she has been kidnapped and intercept him. He gets arrested. Vickys’s head explodes. Cut to Mulder and Scully are doing some grunt work following up on fertilizer purchases. Mulder is grumpy, Scully is very professional. Mulder’s interest is piqued by the news story playing in the background of the house they are at. He convinces Scully to take a detour to investigate the case.

Cut to Crump in his cell, with his head ringing, crying for help. The local law enforcement officer says that he is accusing them of killing his wife. Scully decides to look at Vickys body while Mulder says he will try to talk to Crump. The scene where Scully and the ME examine Vicky’s remains is very good, very atmospheric and viscerally gross. Mulder follows Crumps ambulance as they take him to the hospital. We notice that he does better the faster the ambulance driver drives. When they arrive at a stop sign, Crump jumps out with a gun and takes Mulder hostage. Scully calls Mulder and informs him that there may be a contagion at play, but Mulder is already trapped in close quarters with Crump. Scully tries to coordinate with local law enforcement to intercept them, but Crump threatens to kill Mulder if they don’t back off. Its at this point that we get the first crucial hint of Crumps animus for Mulder. He picks up Mulder’s badge, scoffs, and says, “It’s you people. Figures.”

Now this has some plausible deniability to it. Perhaps he is seeing that Mulder works for the federal government, and being that he evidently thinks government officials are out to get him, he must be reluctant to trust Mulder as he is an officer of the law. However, that is not the reason he tosses the badge aside in contempt.

The tension amps up when Mulder stops at a traffic light and Crump screams for him to go. Mulder puts together that he has to keep the car in motion to keep Crump alive. He then starts calling Mulder “boy” and yells that “you people put me here.” I think the decision to have Crump insist on calling Mulder “boy” is to me more indicative of how I’ve seen white people write anti-Black racism than it is indicative of how antisemitic interactions go, but your opinions may vary. Mulder and Crump avoid the roadblock that local law enforcement set up. Meanwhile Kersch contacts Scully and makes it apparent that the jig is up. They aren’t getting away with doing this under the radar.

Mulder tries to get more information from Crump, who insists Mulder address him as Mr. Crump. Crump then asks Mulder if his last name is Jewish. Mulder neither confirms nor denies this, only insisting that he also be addressed as Mr. Mulder. I think from Mulder’s reaction he is not particularly taken aback at Crump’s statement. We have seen him experience being profiled by antisemites before, which obviously happens during “Kaddish.” Less obvious but still relevant is when he gets tortured by a skinhead in “The Pine Bluff Variant,” but that episode is not the subject of this post.

Cut to Scully investigating the Crump residence, being a thorough badass as per usual. They find a dog who Scully thinks is exhibiting the same pathology, whose head also explodes. Cut back to Mulder and Crump. Mulder is trying to get more information out of Crump to figure out what has been done to him. Crump explains how his wife grew sick and how the faster he drove when taking her to the hospital, the better she seemed to do. Mulder expresses his condolences to which Crump replies “Sure you are. You and your Jew FBI.”

Ding a ling a ling. That’s a bell. There is an element of irony here. Mulder is not a part of some shadowy conspiracy to torture Crump, but he was born into the elite globalist cabal based in New York City. More on that later.

Crump then rants about how he knows what’s really going on and that he is a government guinea pig. He backs up this feeling by listing different negative reporting on real actions of the US government, such as Agent Orange exposure. He says he’s seen government agents sneaking around the woods near his house at night. It is here that Mulder gives us the immortal quip, “On behalf of the international Jewish conspiracy, I just need to inform you that we are almost out of gas.”

Cut to Scully doing her investigative science things and barging into the home of an old deaf woman. Again, this scene is very atmospheric and enjoyable. Mulder and Crump have to stop for gas. Things go wrong such that they eventually just steal another car and hit the road again. He leaves a message to call Dana Scully at the FBI. Scully is puzzling over why the deaf woman has been fine when everyone else is ill. She puts together that this isn’t a pathogen. Scully receives Mulder’s message that if they stop, Crump will die.

Mulder and Crump realize they need to go faster and faster to keep Crump well. Crump mumbles a very half assed apology about “the Jew stuff” stating that Mulder “cant help who he’s born to.” This is, and I cannot state this strongly enough, not an actual apology. Mulder even sarcastically jokes about how he can’t see the road because he is tearing up. Crump then asks what I wonder every time I watch this episode— why the fuck is Mulder helping him? (Because this is a fantasy written by a white Gentile of a minority helping their oppressor despite it compromising their safety but I digress.) Mulder replies that Crump shouldn’t make him question that right now. Crump expresses skepticism that Mulder is actually helping him, fearing that he may just be playing into the hands of the grand Jewish conspiracy. Crump wishes he were dead instead, to which Mulder replies “Hey, you gotta stay alive if you want to stick it to the government.” More on this line later.

Scully goes to investigate the Navy’s Project Seafarer. She pretends she is part of the FCC. Apparently there was a brief power surge in the ground conduction system. She gets little information. Cut to Crump and Mulder. He is still insisting on being called Mr. Crump, although we have now turned a corner and he has begun to call Mulder, Mr. Mulder. Cops on motorcycles hand Mulder a phone so he can talk to Scully. (Codependent besties cant go a day without talking lol). She fills Mulder in on the ground conduction from Project Seafarer going underneath Crump’s property and how that impacted Crump. Upon hanging up with Scully, Mulder says to Crump, “Whether they did this intentionally or not, you were right. They did it to you.” Here we have no actual condemnation of the antisemitism that Crump is espousing. In fact, Crump is pretty much spot on. Mulder is literally affirming that the government did this to him, with no clarification that this in no way reflects on Jewry.

Mulder relays the plan to Crump. The plan is for Scully to intercept them, using a large needle to relieve the pressure in Crumps ear without anesthetic. Mulder ultimately runs into Scully at the end of the highway, a dead Crump in his backseat, crushed at his failure. He looks pensively out at the ocean, removing his tie.

Cut to DC. Kersch bitches at them for going off without permission and for running up a giant bill that Scully, poor girl, is now responsible for. Scully stands by Mulder’s decisions and the fact that the DOD shut down Project Seafarer due to their work. Kersch is a dick about it. End of the episode.

Hopefully the next one isn’t also radically out of touch, with like, for instance, campy Nazis trying to kill a time traveling Mulder. That would form a concerning pattern!

The Problem with the Episode

The thing about this episode that really gets to me is there is no definitive condemnation of Crump’s version of events. We are meant to read from Mulder’s use of humor, and the truism that Mulder is Always Right, that the crimes of the government in this episode have nothing to do with the ethnoreligion of its suspected members. But the episode does not actively state this. Crump’s bias isn’t actually checked beyond the fact that he seems to think he has met One of The Good Ones in the form of Mulder. The X Files does not actively condemn the antisemitism that infects the show, aside from the episode “Kaddish,” which has its own problems, as do all of the Very Special Episodes of the show. Really, if you were watching this episode as a one off, without the context that we are typically supposed to agree with whatever social or political statement Mulder is making, you could walk away from this thinking that The Jews in fact did this to Crump!

But let’s go with the assumption that almost every episode asks us to go with— that Mulder is right. Mulder doesn’t seem to believe in any antisemitic characterizations of the government he is working from within to fight. At least part of the reason for this seems to be that he is actively, repeatedly under threat from these antisemitic bozos, regardless of his whatever his ethnic affiliation is supposed to be. He is a Jew in the eyes of the people who would do him harm because of that, and he, being aware of this, seems to take a dim view of antisemites.

Why did the writers bother to give him a personal stake in the fight? I think the writers knew they were playing with fire by writing a show about how conspiracy theories are true, and they wanted to distance themselves from the accusations of antisemitism that would inevitably follow. The significant thing to me, here, is that I am fairly certain this was a cynical attempt to distance themselves from allegations of how they were utilizing tropes around Jews in their conspiracy plotlines, rather than an attempt to actually distance themselves from the tropes in question. But why wouldn’t it be enough to just have Mulder condemn antisemitism, as he does by his lines in “Kaddish”?

My cynical interpretation that I have no evidence for beyond my gut feeling, is that they just couldn’t help themselves upon seeing David Duchovny. My more serious, text-based interpretation is that Mulder, while not canonically Jewish, is on a meta-textual level, representative of The Jew. What do I mean by this? I have written elsewhere about the mostly negative Jewish stereotypes embedded in Fox Mulder as a character.

Here is a quick rundown for people who didn’t see that post:

1. He is a rich cheapskate.

2. He is born into the elite globalist cabal based in New York City, which specifically

helped Nazis escape justice after the Holocaust.

3. He dislikes his own appearance, to the point of wanting a nose job, specifically.

4, He knows some Yiddish.

5. He inexplicably hits it off well with sketchy Jewish-coded characters like Saperstein.

6. He died in the Holocaust. (Deep sigh)

7. He consistently faces antisemitism, often to the point of violence being done to him or at the very least threatened.

Bonus round: He is anti-Christianity specifically, and “Revelations” implies that God does not show up in Mulder’s life as a test of Scully’s faith.

In essence, he is a fetishized, and in these cases helpless, victim of antisemitism, while being simultaneously from a very malevolent and powerful background. He stands in opposition to the canonically existing Christian God of the show, and is peppered with these little tiny culturally Jewish moments. All this amounts to him taking the role that is attributed to The Jew as a figure in the non-Jewish imagination, with the various contradictions that that role entails around power, victimhood and privilege. He is not canonically Jewish, yet he’s pretty much beat for beat how these writers would have written a Jewish character, sans some obligatory circumcision jokes.

The show’s treatment of conspiracy cannot be pulled apart from the fact that a character laden with negative tropes around Judaism is explicitly born into the group pulling the strings of this elaborate global conspiracy. Judaism would already be associated with that group given the broader context of how virtually all conspiracy theories around globalist cabals eventually get to an antisemitic place in mainstream American culture. This association is just all the more apparent in the context of The X Files having a character connected to the cabal who has these tropes and experiences attached to him.

The Antiauthoritarianism of Fools

The fact that this goes largely unaddressed within the show and within the fandom leads me to characterize this as “the antiauthoritarianism of fools.” This is a play on the concept of “the socialism of fools,” which is basically the idea that people who have criticisms of capitalism fall for antisemitic conspiracy theories instead of actually thinking critically about capitalism and arriving at a more principled criticism that doesn’t target Jewish people. The antiauthoritarianism of fools, then, would be an antiauthoritarianism that falls into convenient and lazy beliefs around antisemitic conspiracy theories, rather than a principled antiauthoritarianism that targets the actual powers that be.

The government that Crump is trying to to survive to stick it to is, in his head, The Jews. Mulder, in all his Jew-coded glory, is the emissary of that government, simultaneously canonically complicit in what has been done to Crump, and working against the powers that are trying to harm him. Mulder is as paradoxical in the episode as is The Jew is in the non-Jewish imagination. I don’t think Mulder is literally endorsing Crump’s antisemitic worldview when he encourages Crump to stay alive. Mulder is pretty canonically An Ally, if not straight up One of Us depending on your interpretation. But in the narrative of the episode, we are never actually refuting Crump’s assertion that the government he needs to stick it to are The Jews. For all we know, he dies believing that, and believing that he just happened to run into a Good Jew, who couldn’t help the fact that he was born Jewish. This does not actually lessen his antisemitism. He is a very sympathetic villain despite the values dissonance I think the episode is trying and failing to lead us towards. It isn’t enough to lightly imply that he is wrong about what he believes about Jewish people by having Mulder disagree with him; we needed the writers to actually, unequivocally condemn him like they did the Nazis in “Kaddish.” Leaving this open to interpretation just reinforces the tropes they are playing with. Really the entirety of The X Files has a superficial politics, a kind of reflexive paranoia that falls very easily into the antiauthoritarianism of fools.

Why This Matters Here and Now

Okay, so some people are reblogging a gifset on Tumblr with a line I don’t like. Whomp whomp. Who cares?

This matters because this is a popularization of a moment that is the antiauthoritarianism of fools. We are in a context where many, many people in the United States live in terror and rage due to the recent election of Donald Trump. I am one of these people. In that sense, the sentiment that one should stay alive out of spite to such an evil government can be empowering.

We also live in a moment where the richest man in the world did two Nazi Salutes back to back at the presidential inauguration. If you disagree with that characterization of his gesture, block me please. And the ADL, ostensibly made for the protection of Jews in the United States, failed to condemn him. This is a moment of a radical mainstreaming of antisemitism along with every other hateful -ism under the sun. In this moment, we should not promote an uncritical antiauthoritarianism of fools, because that uncritical thinking will bite us all in the collective ass. When people reblog that gifset or images, they are promoting a moment where the context is that The Jews are the evil government that one should resist. Thinking critically about art is essential when fascism is on the rise.

Am I going to block people who post that quote? No. Because I also believe in freedom of speech. I get why the vibe of that quotation is something people are going for when shit is so rough and scary right now, but I think we need to be critical of the context of the quotation if we are going to build communities and spaces strong enough to resist.

you know i find it mildly infuriating that tim had time to address the karaoke scene debacle bc of twitter fans, but he doesn’t have time to addresss the fact that since the start of s7 there have been fans who have been spouting hateful rhetoric about poc cast/characters and sending death threats to other fans, crew members, and journalists for not supporting their lukewarm ship, and he also for some reason is trying to remain on this high horse of “representation” when that is probably one of the weakest character sexuality storylines i’ve seen, and not only that but he decided to make the entire second half of the season practically dedicated to the pain of poc, as well as exploiting racial stereotypes for cheap drama….. all of this while these fans are acting like this guy who came out of nowhere (something that has literally been admitted by tim) is somehow this holy grail of a character when his emotional range is less than the “😐🧍” emojis, and tim is simultaneously ignoring the hate and blatant racism from the fans, but also promoting and giving a storyline to a racist character— even going as far as to brush that racism under the rug narratively, as well as allowing the actor to rile up controversy and division amongst fans

this is why it is so hard for me to trust tim anymore because that man has not shown to ke that he actually cares about good storytelling, he just cares about money going into his pocket.

now, no i don’t believe he is out here DM-ing fans s8 spoilers because the man is a moneymaker not an idiot, so before you try to say anything about me saying i believe bree, i most certainly do not— but unfortunately i don’t trust tim to handle any of the storylines he’s set up for s8 well until i see it.

and most of all i feel awful from ryan and oliver who want nothing more than to tell such a beautiful story but they are constantly being mowed over by tim, by the network, and now by the fans… oliver really wanted to do something with buck’s story, and all it’s done is caused a group of batshit fans to spread hate to other fans for not jumping ship after 6 years. ryan is so exhausted of having to rehash the shannon shit every season even though we’ve been given plenty of evidence to show that he has moved on from her— this storyline wasn’t necessary (and especially not the way they chose to tell it).

and lastly— oliver and ryan have wanted the fans to be happy. they want buck and eddie to be happy. and right now, neither of them are in a narratively satisfying spot, and until the show actually cuts the bullshit and starts doing something with their storyline and not just exploiting it, I’m not gonna support it by watching. they’ve shown they don’t care about queer rep by making half of a popular ship canon by bringing back a former character who was literally racist and misogynistic just to serve a character arc, and haven’t gotten rid of him despite having an entire half of a season to do so. they’ve shown they don’t care about queer rep by giving the bisexual main character a sexuality arc that lasted 0.2 seconds narratively and had him end up with the first guy who kissed him, despite there being zero chemistry or build up to imply there were ever actually any feelings of interest. they’ve shown they don’t care about queer rep by once again putting the show’s two black queer women through the same storyline they’ve had before, rehashing their trauma once again in an arc that didn’t even carry over because it was mostly resolved after 3 episodes. they’ve shown they don’t care about queer rep by saying that they wanna “do the story naturally” if they make eddie queer, yet they ignore every opportunity they have to do do by (literally) digging up his ex wife at every turn despite having written numerous lines of dialogue in which he blatantly admits to not actually loving her romantically, and stating that their marriage only happened because she got pregnant.

season 7 had the potential to be something great. it turned out to be mid.

season 8 also has the potential to be something great. until it starts looking like it im not gonna waste my time, energy, or sanity forcing myself to watch- especially if they’re just going to continue the blatant fan service bullshit after telling buddie fans for 6 years that they “don’t wanna do fanservice”….. well what the fuck do you call this dumpster fire, tim?

we may get some more information once filming starts that will change my mind, but right now it’s really not worth it after spending 7 year watching this show to just continue to be spat on and slapped in the face by the creators.

By all accounts the lupin fandom has always prided itself as a drama free ship war free open to polyamory and wildly different headcanons fandom. And I can name a few people that have worked hard to keep this place very friendly. And I really started in this fandom in a friendly place. I even managed to make friends that Liked Luzeni maybe even just as much as me. I was ecstasic. I really loved those people so much, I talked to them daily. Some of them I respected so much for their craft. Great.

Id always been upfront and very clear that they were befriending someone who was fucked in the head. And i dont mean seasonal depression type I mean Bipolar and Bpd and all the symptoms it entails. Im not even going to mention the upbringing and the life ive had. All of it was a complete and violently abusive catastrophy.

Last year I exhibited symptoms that were intense. TOXIC. It didnt mean that I was toxic to my friend, because I was rational enough to know about boundaries. I was at the end of my rope. For undisclosed reasons I had to be interned. Great. During the ultimate time that lead me to become crazy, not a single person i thought was my friend gave me a hand. I received a message from one friend while I was litteraly perched on the windowsill about to jump telling me about their life. Not asking abt me. I sent some Hey thats cool but im about to kill myself and they didnt reply. Days after I was interned they told me that my message triggered them so they had to have an emergency meeting with their psychiatrist. Cool. Nothing abt me still. Sorry ? Fallout 1

During yhat whole shitstorm and despite everything a friend became my like. favorite person in bpd terms. Just really fucking embarassing shit really. I tried to prevent it, i tried to pull out not to make it worse, which not only was making it worse but was making it toxic. I aparently blew out, which of course my memory conveniently forgot. I said something ahout their partner. They never explained what. Again, after internment I apologized. They told me they needed time. They bsolutely deserved it. I was probably horrible to warrant that reaction. I might even have been toxic. Again, I do not remember what I even said. Im not a demonic entity it couldnt have been like I desacrated them and insulted them beyond repair. Even in my anger I have always been limited. But all i can do is speculate. They never explained, just took my apology. And then They never came back. That friend I liked so much that despite everything I did to control myself became a person i liked beyond wat was normal. During that blow out one friend meddled, asking that other friend for information ? I asked to pass along a message to friend B. which friend A refused. Like it was not their business, even tho they were clearly invested in the business enough to talk to both of us about it lol. No problem. 4 days ago thou i confronted a group of friends that were friends As friend, for kicking them out of an rp group for no reason, even bordering on racism. My friend feels hurt about that event, has always hinted at it. it even stopped them from rping, something they did for 12 years. They had no closure and so I tried to bring it to them. Asshole move or empathic ? Thinking back i may have been taking the situation personnaly because i was already on my way out menrally. I dont know. All i know is that four days later, after i talked for hours to that group and the reason why they treated my friend so poorly that they still had scars over it, i was experiencing a mental crisis and that friend refused a request. The last friend litteraly stood by and said nothing. Not before the fallout and not after. I dont even know'if that counts as a fallout. This girl was so cute, so fun, so talented, so FUNNY. And when it came to a heed she said nothing. No side taking. Neutrality. Okay

At this point I no longer had anyone to talk to I think. I was documenting my attempt and the horrible conditions of the psych ward on twitter for everyone of my "friends" to see. One i particularly loved so much because they genuinely were on the same level of insanity related to luzeni made a tweet about the late hystix, a person i did not know but a lot of the lupin fandom did. A beautiful soul that was always supportive and kind. Everyone was mourning her. It was truly heartbreaking. I hope she is in peace. Our attempts matched in timing, it was actually mindblowing. Mine just fucking failed because of nosy neighbors. I feel so close to her in spirit still. That we both struggled so much that we came to the conclusion that nothing could save us. She did not have the nosy neighbors. That friend mourned her publicly.. on twitter. Ok. Logical, its a depressing, horrible and sad situation all around. All we can do is mourn. Still, it was a friend I was genuinely close to. That never showed the empathy they did to me. Hey dude so im kind of facing the exact same issues but you never reached out ? While my torment was there and documented on twitter because again. I did not fucking know wat was going on. I was in a strict mental ward under a lot of dosage from nurses who refused to give me insulin even thou i was type 1. Friend said that they tweeted at me. No mention of the years and years of discussions we had on discord and me checking up on them everytime they pulled out for severe family matters and i was genuinely concerned. after that I stopped friends all together. The fact that friends I was talking nigh on everyday to each revealed their lack of concern for me during an extreme mental health crisis was abyssmal to say the least.

Fallout 5 came with Sheen. I was managing a charity zine for Palestine, and the lack of investment from so many artists brought me to the edge. I took it out on Sheen in the softest way possible. I told them I was disapointed in their piece and that it looked low effory. Sheen, a person I had knwon for the entirety of my investment in the lupin fandom, decided that an offense was enough to block me and never speak again. Once again i was on the verge of yet another blow out. And it happened. Lol. Its just so funny in retrospect that everytime I start acting weird alluding to a breakdown people shun me out despite, you know. me being clear abt my medical record. I realized that I was rude to Sheen and it was uncalled for. Apologized publicly not in the attempt that Sheen sees it but just so that everyone knows that if they hear abt the story, at least they know its all been my fault. Online friendships are so cool because it just takes the block button to burn bridges without coming back. With no chance of mending or at least a genuine apology. so Fallout 5

Is there a reason that all of these issues happened within one fandom ? I do think so. Unless i am incredibly unlucky. Or an abusive piece of shit unbeknownst to me. I think that the lupin fandom is surface level niceties. If they dont like you you will know. It will be passive but you will be muted and eventually just ostracized. You will not be invited in fandom events, or group discussions. It did not help that my mental health was constantly deteriorating and I started developping a persecution complex, thinking that people were making secret discords where they were telling others to avoid me or something. Ive endured all of this for one thing. One Humiliating thing : i love luzeni. I love it so much I want a tatto of it. I love it so much that after years before sleep I pick a random fic and then imagine their discussions. I love their dynamic so much. I love their romance I love how fucking inhinged they are i love that they hurt and love each other the same, i love that they cant live without the other, that they genuinely complete each other in a really ugly but complete patchwork of mental illness and really elaborate kinks.

I gave up thou. Another depression, I blew out, attempted again with the window, got caught and sent to the hospital. It pulled me back from the fandom. I realized i was allocating so much of my thoughts to it and how I could be better perceived, how I could make friends again to talk about the fictional thing i loved the most in the world. And I realized that in giving up and keeping to myself, that I could be more stable. That the damage was done and I cant really enjoy this fandom anymore, but Im still attached to the hip to luzeni and so in the words of a really brilliant man... Nah... Ill do my own thing.

U might be wondering why the hell is this bitch airing their laundry publicly. Its therapeutic. You dont have to read or care. If those friends see it, and make a comment of their own about how the events did NOT happen like I told, I would love to hear how they perceived it. I do not give my friendship freely and easily and these people have done profound damage to my abilty to trust. And most of all, I never had any closure. I kept rethinking, blaming them, then myself, then miscommunication, then them and then myself again. To this day I dont know why all of this happend. Did I act like an unfathomable monster, or did my friend simply not give a shit enough to help me through this. I dont fucking know and I cant deny either options. Maybe I am talking through a completely selfish wrapped sens of perception that is not to be trusted. I wouldnt be surprised. I have a very hard time relying on my own brain lately. My health is deteriorating very fast, and shit is getting worse.

The second reason is that I am going to be interned for psychiatric issues for the next 3 months. For the first time in my life I think Ill finally get all the professional support i need, available and close. Im not going to be investing any time in the fandom, if simply talking to the psychiatrist abt this catastrophic strings of fallouts. I might be posting some luzenis, but frankly i doubt it. I only make fanart when I am happy, or sad enough but still capable. Im neither right now. You are not entitled to any of these informations, but I just wanted to write them out of my mind because I have a LOT of baggage to go on through and this is an extra bag I dont need so im throwing it out.

You cannot gauge an entire fandom from your perspective, the same way you cannot gauge an entire userbase. No, tiktokers are not the worst people in humanity. Neither are reddit users. Being on tumblr is cool, but it doesnt make u better than being on twitter. And so this is only my opinion of the lupin fandom. I met some amazing persons that i wish the best for, for ever and ever, but in all the niceties and welcoming you might see, I dont think that extends to a person with mental illnesses that are villified, or out of their control. I can fairly say that my experience was disapointing, and I dont intend to rekindle anything. Ill just be on the fringe maintaining the spirit of luzeni alive because fuck you monkey punch these are my characters now by law.

i sorry for saying this but i have to be honest, i dont understand why the LnDs MC having a gender is a problem, i mean, i understand you making a gn OC for some kind of support or representation but not why the MC, who already have a female body (and with that i mean biologically, the old fashion way everyone would visualise in their minds at first when they hear "female body", after all even if we young ones think this patter is wrong it still a pattern old ppl and from different cultures, and almost everyone understand and learned at first at a very young age) and if im not wrong also refered as "she" im the game, cant be described with anything that isnt gender neutral, i also have no idea why someone would be offended or feel not included reading about a MC with a gender, we all are different and is impossible to include everyone, ppl can feel not included for things you cant even imagine would be a problem, and not being able to see yourself on a story once isnt a big problem, you can ignore or jump to the next one, or just see the character like a character or another person that isnt youself.

I understand what you’re trying to say, nonnie, but I have to point out a few things first. First off, I shouldn’t have to explain my own boundaries because at the end of the day, they are boundaries and should not be discussed. When something makes me uncomfortable, I shouldn’t be negotiating why people should respect that and stick to it without questioning my motives.

However, I understand you have no ill intentions, so I will be answering you—not because I’m obligated to, but because I want to point out where your line of thinking comes to harm marginalized communities.

The very simple answer is this: Because I’m a fanfic writer.

I’m not creating the MC in a game where she physically has a body and an appearance. Otome games were initially made as fantasies for their players to picture themselves in romantic situations. But since most Otome games have female MCs with very stereotypical appearances, most people who do NOT look like that end up having to imagine an OC/someone else in their place. It’s a shitty feeling; to feel left out because game producers can’t be assed to create more diverse options.

Second of all, the “old fashioned way” was already fucked up from the start, because even female bodied people are much less likely to look like Otome game MCs—who are almost dauntingly pretty, have virtually no physical blemishes, have straight hair, big eyes, and are incredibly thin. Now think of all the people who do NOT fit that physical description and are almost always excluded. When I visualize a female body like you say, I don’t instantly picture a perfect-looking skinny fair-skinned girl who looks not a day past 18. Because female bodies aren’t just one thing or the other. It’s a beautiful spectrum.

Third of all, leaving “old fashioned thinking” as it is is already a harmful concept. Should we ignore white people’s racism because it’s how they were brought up in the old-fashioned way? Should we allow sexism & misogyny in our communities because it’s how they were brought up back in the day? Should we encourage fatphobia by not silencing people because being thin and encouraging EDs was acceptable? Should we let homophobic hate crimes keep occurring because that’s what used to happen?

The number one goal of our new generations should be to reconstruct society and dismantle all the harmful practices that were done by our predecessors. Ending the cycle is our responsibility and no one else’s, and to do that, we have to take active measures to undo what they’ve done and erase what is “the norm.” Just thinking it’s wrong isn’t enough; we must take action to cut that shit out.

And because these were the “old-fashioned ways” it’s still the default for almost every writer to create for a female audience. Imagine a fandom has 200 writers. 190 would write for female MCs, and only 10 writers would write for more diverse MCs. Should everyone else that is not female (and, by the way, gender-queer people represent a massive percentage of fandoms online, and males do exist within our fandom spaces) just keep living their lives having to picture other people instead of themselves, because not enough people care enough to include them in their writing?

Here’s a realistic representation of what you’re saying: let’s say there are 2 million LNDS players around the world. 1 million are female. 1 million are not. The second 1 million will never get to see themselves as the MC. Now they can’t even picture themselves in fiction? Should the second 1 million be forced to feel left out in their own fandom space?

The same also happens with race representation in fandoms. Less than 50% of the world population is white. Yet we don’t see except very few people in fandoms writing for Black people, Latinos, Arabs, South-Asians, South-East Asians, Inuits, Native Americans, etc. Why is that? It’s because fandoms are catered towards white people. So should we just let the entire half of the globe never feel included in the art/writing fandom creators make? Do they not deserve representation and comfort too?

So when I write, I write for everyone. And when I say everyone, I mean EVERYONE. Because I think everyone deserves to see themselves loved and cared for by their favorite characters. Because everyone needs that sort of comfort. Because I myself have spent my entire life looking for that comfort in fandom spaces and never finding it. Even if the game doesn’t allow them to do that, I’m giving everyone a chance to enjoy the game through their own eyes, without having to be a stereotypical skinny girl with sleek straight hair and a dainty face. Because we want representation, and if the canon content can’t give us that (even though they claim it’s supposed to be “us”), then at the very least our fandom spaces should provide this. I hope you understand why my rules are there now. They’re a protection for both myself and everyone else in this fandom.

Fanfiction was created by the people, for the people—not just for a certain demographic that fits beauty standards and “old fashioned thinking”—and it should always be for ALL the people.

Being as inclusive as is humanly possible is never a bad thing. Refusing to see why consistently excluding others is wrong IS a bad thing, though.

im a zutara multishipper though i often feel like a fake cause im not as hardcore as most of em.. i forgot all about that scarf scene its not as memorable as I'll save you from the pirates is that probalmatic imeaniguess but it was a fun scene in the cartoon ..

im begging shippers not to bully gordon over shipping and it is interting to note how uncomfortable zutara makes the actors prob cause they recognize Kia is a teenager and Dallas is 22 year old.. theres hooplah over how the age gap is fine cause she' ll be 18 and theres a difference with 11/14 vs 15/ year old met guy when he was 20. of course kia is uncomforatble with zutara she met dallas aas a child. but here we got people treating her like she's an adult already.

Hi!! Honestly it's fine if you ship even if things for the ship are considered 'problematic'. I mean I ship Zukka and both of them have genuinely wanted each other dead or gone for a good chunk of the show lol.

I think, and I'm not going to generalize and say EVERY Zutara shipper, but one thing I've encountered as a pattern of difference between Zutara shippers and every other ATLA ship shipper, is canonicity. Zukaang, Zukka, Jetko, MaiLee, TyZula, Tokka, Taang, none of them are of the mindset that their ship will be canon so no one has any real problems with these ships. But a lot of Zutara shippers I've seen on twitter at least are convinced that Zutara was meant to be canon, and this inability keep fanon and canon separate is what's getting people's hopes up. And when it's made clear that these ARE separate, there's upset. I've seen the same thing happen with multiple other shippers and ships across fandoms.

You're so right on the way people act about and treat Kia. Dallas has on interview said Kia is like a little sister to him, and yeah people keep forgetting that these two met when Kia was a child and he was an adult. It's why Dallas and Ian are fine when they talk about Zukka or can joke about "shipping" them.

I've noticed that people are doing the thing again(in 2024 dear GOD), where they keep waiting for young girls to be "legal" to be fucking creeps. People did it with Billie Eilish, the Olsen twins and a bunch of other female celebs and artists. I just feel terrible for her and Gordon, and I wish people would stop being weird about the actors and take a hint because Kia, Dallas, Gordon- none of them are being subtle about being uncomfortable about zutara. The only way they can be more obvious is plaster it on their foreheads. I didn't know about people talking about...ugh I can't even say it, Kia and Dallas like a ship GROSS. Leave Kia and Dallas out of it gosh. I got an ask a while back basically saying people will stop being mean to Gordon if Zutara becomes canon and I was flabbergasted. Like, you won't treat a child, with respect and dignity, because your 20 year old ship isn't real???

I've said this before, but people are just jumping to make Kia out to be more...older? People saying she looks like Gordon's mom(I will hunt these people on sight she looks like a child). And it's this, intermixing of sexism and racism and colourism (I've seen people be extremely disgusting about Dallas and Gordon too about their appearance. Pretty much everyone who doesn't fit into Western beauty standards are receiving awful hate- Thalia Tran playing Mai, Elizabeth Yu playing Azula).

People seriously need to get a grip and start learning to differentiate between fiction and real human beings or this is going to hurt EVERYONE involved, but especially Kia and Gordon. first off w how curly was portrayed in the movie, ion like it, especially in the beginning where he jumped m&m and he sang fucking jingle bells, I DONT MIND CURLY DOING THAT I GUESS, but it knocked down his cool points a bit</3333, but towards the end I LIKED HOW HE WAS ACTUALLY

when it comes to others outside his family: id want him to be a bit more erratic, not in a “laughing hahahah im so crazy #joker” era way, nonono, i mean in a “do what i say, anything u say or do can set me off, ill get real up close and personal” kinda guy, he looks up to tim, and wants to mimic him in the way of how he thinks tim acts!!! hes got this façade up so he could come off as more intimidating

when it comes to being near friends/family but hes around strangers as well: hes more open to telling crude jokes to get the others around him to laugh or entertained, a people pleaser in an odd way, still trying to act like tim but more obviously cruel in his own way, his own personality is sticking out a bit!!(this is the version of curly most ppl would see)

when it comes to just being around close friends/family: NOW hes more like a goofball, still up to his stupid antics and cruel, but way more way smiley, hes a family guy what can i say, this is when hes more caring (hes caring through his actions, however, when it comes to words of affection, he only rlly resorts to that when someone he loves is all down and beaten mentally, like angela bawling out her eyes, tim at the dinner table drinking, and he feels like they NEED it)

and considering this is like 60s or 70s era, OBVIOUSLY id want to focus on racism and how to relates to the justice/police system, but also bc i hc my shepards as haitian id want to focus on a bittttt of pan africanism and specifically noirisme (black movement from haiti)
