like honestly just give your non binary characters traditionally "gendered" features. just do it. it's not like being androgynous ever stopped non binary characters from being misgendered.
frisk undertale and kris deltarune were androgynous and are only ever referred to by "they/them" and ppl are still arguing over how the "main character is not the player but their own person" message didn't apply to their genders bc they refuse to wrap their head around different pronouns. raine owlhouse was paraded around as "disney's first ever nb representation" by everyone and their mother but bc they have short hair other countries dub them as male. this also happens to most anime nb characters bc of how japanese pronouns work. halara raincode literally has the color scheme of the non binary flag AND their in-game profile says that they, and i quote "have no specified gender" AND several characters remark on it in the actual game but bc theyre voiced by a female voice actor ppl still call them a woman.
like literally at this point just give your nb characters huge tits and a massive beard. if ppl refuse to accept the existence of non binary characters in media, then there is no way to make a character non binary "enough" to convince them otherwise. no matter how much you hammer in their androgyny in an attempt to detach them from "male" and "female," there will be people determined to assign gender roles to any trait you give your character.
creators being hesitant to give their non binary characters traits that could be associated with a binary gender is why every goddamn genderqueer character that the creator wants you to take seriously in popular media has shoulder length hair and a board-flat figure and a perfectly neutrally pitched voice. like. just do what you want at this point. the character is non binary because your story said so and people who misgender them would have done that no matter how androgynous they look.

Sorry to everyone who followed for my analysis a year and change ago. The rot has consumed me and I can only post about drama now.
Anyway I saw the post by @worm-fanon-polls and wanted to try it with the worst candidates I know of, thank you for the idea and sorry for the existence of this.
Pictures of each entry below cut. Names censored to prevent harrassment, most of the time there will not be direct links. These are very bad, and your day may be significantly worse for seeing them. CW Racism, Pedophilia, Sexism, and more.
Infinite period. I think this is the tamest on the list. A terrible fanfic all around, one excerpt doesn't do it justice. Its entirely Taylor getting revenge on the trio, Madison is forced to have her period constantly as a punishment and the story is not normal about it, shockingly.
2. Bonesaw Hornyposting. Right what it says on the tin. Halfway through a worm liveblog, OP got horny on main about Bonesaw. Y'know, the 12 year old. Amy/Riley kinkposting by the same person not pictured due to image limit.

3. A collection of moodboards made for shipping Taylor with various villains from Worm, almost all of which are turned into airbrushed white boys for this. Villains moodboarded include Kaiser, Alabaster, Uber, Scion, Jack Slash, Ash Beast, and so many more. Here's Uber and the compilaton as a whole.
4. Gaylor's Ship Name Spreadsheet. A popular queer-focused discord server for worm fanfic made a spreadsheet to get ship names for rare character pairings, with plenty of people around the server participating. The names range from mediocre jokes to very poor taste to incredibly racist. Some examples:
Aisha x Purity: Kay Kay Kougar Bakuda x Greg: Yellow Fever Shatterbird x Miss Militia: Ambiguously Brown
Link to a copy
5. Ebony Steel. Speaking of bad ships! I'm just sending the ao3 tags, that's enough to make the point.
6. Ziz's Worm Fanfic Inspired Flowchart. Ziz is the name of a real life murderer and cult leader, name chosen because of the worm character. While her blog doesn't actually focus on Worm much beyond quoting it a few times, this flowchart detailing her mindset puts "Escalation..." as the final step, and with her being somewhat active in the worm fandom and the flowchart also having an Undertale reference there's a good chance this is referencing the common fanon of Taylor as the Queen of Escalation. This one is speculatory, if you want just think of this as a section for Ziz's murder cult as a whole.
7. Bakuda: Cornell's Own Resident Hamasian. OP (who is generally incomprehensible) posted this to r/Cornell, as if those people would know who Worm was. As a friend has said, maybe he just thinks Bakuda is real?

8. Victoria Comment Compilation. A collection of comments about Victoria on fanfics, Worm, and Ward. This is getting dangerously close to Amy discourse. Here's one of the very normal comments as an example to give a taste of the horrors.

9. Sophia crushing on Hookwolf. Someone on Reddit listed their favorite ships, which were massively racist in multiple ways. Shocking, the Worm fandom has never had a racism problem aside from this.

10. Ack's Deleted Works. If you don't know, Ack is one of, if not THE most prolific and popular fanfic author in the fandom. Everything he writes gets massively popular, and I will withhold from commenting about the quality of the works. I think it's okay to name names when it's the most known person in the fanfic scene. Anyway before he wrote generic power fantasy, he wrote a whole lot of Danny x Taylor smut, and although these have been deleted they can still be found and often leak into his 'normal' fics like Security. I will not link them or show an image because uhhh I actually do not want to put underage erotica on this post, so here is a moderator of r/Wormfanfic driven to insanity by them.

Anyway yeah this fandom is hell. If you know another terrible post please add it on.
#worm#parahumans#poll#wormblr#there were so many other posts I wanted to add on omg but I can only do 10#that's a blessing for all of us though

I've been uh
Cooking up some
Stuff...
For Splits lore and i came up with some uh
Pretty good stuff but it's um
Analog horror type stuff
Did I ever mention that split is an amalgam and not an actual sans?
Yea.
TW/ analog horror/body horror
These are only concepts so they're very likely to change or be scrapped

Translation: "SOON, DEAR CHILD..."

Translation: "YOU'LL BE DEAD WHERE YOU STAND."
This is a reference to the quote sans makes in undertale: "if it weren't for me, you'd be dead where you stand"

Translation: "WE KNOW WHAT YOU'VE DONE..."
Inspired from an old broken musicbox ice cream truck tune my friend showed me

I hate this one's mouth, nothing makes my fight or flight response kick in more than an empty toothless gaping mouth and I don't know why but this is cool nonetheless

I thought of this while listening to music, it's their first time outside in years after being in Gasters lab, yea that's right, Gaster

I thought of this one this morning, I feel so bad for them, they just wanna see Toriel again
These are all just ideas, but I'm going to go more in depth for this in the future, probably soon
Amalgam Split/Shiro/Kuro, Split Alphys, Split Toriel, and Split Gaster belong to me

Chara undertale how I hate you (affectionate). The fandom has endless arguments about your nature and purpose to the story of undertale. I am going to regurgitate information I have stewing in my mind and put down my theory/interpretation.
You are Chara, or rather Chara is the actual player character of Undertale.
I'll start with simply listing out information that points to this:
Chara's fall date is marked as 201X, with the X being a stand-in for the game's release year of 2015 (alternatively, the demo's release year of 2013).
The player names them, and most players will name them after themselves for the first playthrough, this seems to be intended and expected. The demo's manual describes this as naming "your character."
"CHARA" is the default name, and using it or in the naming screen results in the response "The True Name." The term "True Name" has various definitions that could apply to this situation, but the one that seems the most accurate is "the name of a thing or being that expresses, or is somehow identical with, its true nature." Chara is short for "Character," which would mean Chara's true nature is that of a character of some kind. The variable "Truename" is also used to control when Flowey refers to Frisk as Chara in aborted genocide routes and subsequent neutrals. In Deltarune, the "truename" variable also stores the player name.
Similar to Gaster for Deltarune, when Undertale came out, messages from Flowey were posted by the official Undertale Twitter account. They're directed at "you," which in this case appears to be Chara. Here's the transcription: "Hee hee hee...I've been waiting for you to get here. How long has it been...? How many years...? ... It doesn't matter. I KNEW you would come back. ... So. What do you say? Won't you play with me again? =)"
Chara's name appears on Frisk's stats/save menu and the battle screen. In Deltarune, we see something similar, but it only occurs on Kris' save file with the player name.
Throughout the game, you will occasionally see some of Chara's memories. This occurs in the intro and when Frisk dies, falls asleep under specific circumstances in Toriel's home in the ruins, or falls into the garbage dump. Something similar happens in Asriel's boss fight, but we know that comes from Asriel himself due to the name of the code and Temmie's FAQ describing it as Asriel regaining his memories.
Here's some quotes from Flowey/Asriel describing his motivations:
"If you leave the underground satisfied, you'll "win" the game. If you "win," you won't want to "play" with me anymore. [...] But this game between us will NEVER end."
"I just want to reset everything. All your progress... Everyone's memories. I'll bring them all back to zero! Then we can do everything ALL over again."
"Do you know why I'm doing this...? Why I keep fighting to keep you around...? I'm doing this... Because you're special, [Name]. You're the only one that understands me. You're the only one who's any fun to play with anymore. I'm not ready for this to end. I'm not ready for you to leave. I'm not ready to say goodbye to someone like you again..."
Asriel's motivations are very odd to read from an in-universe perspective. If he broke the barrier, he could still play with Frisk (who he thinks is Chara), but instead, he seems to think that if they leave the Underground satisfied (if the game is won), he'll have to say goodbye to them again. To stop "the game" from ending, he wants to reset it and force you to do it again.
Toby seems to see and portray the relationship between the player character and the player as the two being mostly one and the same entity. This goes all the way back to his Earthbound Halloween Hack days, and you can see it in his statements all of the time, such as here when he refers to Kris' room and family using second person pronouns. But I think you can see it most clearly in Skies Forever Blue's lyrics (which were written by Toby), in which the singer conflates the player character "Two friends started just as neighbors" and the player "When you made my name the same just as the one you love, then I knew. Maybe to your view, I'm just a faintly colored hue, that's alright," and falls in love with them.
Flowey's post pacifist monologue reveals a lot. It is directed at the one being with control of the Save/Load system, which means he became aware of them and their presence at some point. He begs the being in question to not reset and describes it as "the power you were fighting to stop [...] The power that I wanted to use," referring to his plan as Asriel to keep the game going. He begs this being to let Frisk and the monsters live out their lives, separating this being and Frisk. The speech places extra emphasis on the word "you" twice by fully capitalizing it. Flowey addresses the being he's talking to as the name you gave Chara. An extra note to add here is after this scene and before true resetting, the menu theme is replaced with an extremely slowed down version of the regular menu theme (extremely slowed down music is associated with Chara by the genocide route).
Why does Chara share a name with the player? Because they are our character.
Now, to restate the theory: You are Chara, or rather Chara is the actual player character of Undertale. This leads to a nesting doll situation with Frisk.
Why did Chara fall down in a year that is a stand-in date for the game's release? Because that's the first year the player could have played Undertale.
Why is Chara's name on Frisk's save file? Because Chara/you are the being who is actually in control of it.
Why is Chara's name in Frisk's stats? Because you're not directly playing as Frisk, you're playing as Chara, who is then playing as/controlling Frisk. This may also be the real reason we see their memories constantly, it's a POV flashback. We're not even entirely sure Frisk sees these memories. The True Lab phone call could imply they don't, as the Asriel voice used for that also appears in the Waterfall fall down flashback scene.
Why does Asriel not want the barrier to be broken/not want the game to be beaten? Because if the game ends in a satisfying way, you will stop playing it, and so Asriel will have to say goodbye to you (Chara) as you can't exist in Undertale's world when the game is over.
Just from the evidence in neutral/pacifist, this seems to be what Toby was trying to portray. While the genocide route does complicate this, I think it also reinforces it a lot too.
Chara's enhanced presence in the genocide route is first made known when the kill counter in the ruins is exhausted. Dialogue/narration from them then appears in Toriel's house. "Where are the knives?" in the kitchen and "It's me, [Name]" in the mirror.
As a pre-emptive note, I do not believe in NarraChara and think it is not intentional. As such I do not take it into account. To me, there is a general narrator that Chara occasionally speaks over in the genocide route. Chara consistently speaks in a very contrasting tone with regular narration and always in first person. The closest to normal narration they speak is the "Strongly felt [x] left. Shouldn't proceed yet" waterfall geno-abort prevention dialogue, which dodges any pronouns and is still likely Chara describing their own emotions in first person perspective. The genocide route takes many ques from classic video game creepypasta tropes. The player character speaking directly to the player is one of them, and it is purposefully portrayed in contrast to be eerie.
The second line, in particular, begins a running trend throughout the route, Chara claiming ownership of Frisk's body/actions and speaking as if they ARE Frisk. The second case of this is actually during Glad Dummy, which despite using second person pronouns, is clearly directed at the Dummy itself which would make sense if they were facing her personally "Wipe that smile off your face." The third case is when facing Monster Kid, with their encounter text, "In my way." The line "It's me, [Name]" reappears in both the lab camera and Asgore's mirrors. The Hotland Guards have their check text "I see two lovers [...] I couldn't stop laughing." The final notable instance is "(I unlocked the chain)."
That last one, in particular, is by itself actually an indication we are playing as Chara anyway. We are the one who presses interact on the keychain, and Chara unlocks the chain as a result. Is that not playing as Chara?
Chara's monologues are often the subject of the debate of "Who is Chara talking to?" I personally think its pretty clear that they're talking to the player. Nothing they say makes sense in-universe. The idea that they're talking to Frisk also runs into a problem when they suggest doing a different route if you recreate the world again. Frisk, just like Flowey, does not remember True Resets or completed genocide routes (unlike Chara who on the steam release can technically remember things from other installs of Undertale which further ties them and the player together, as Flowey/Asriel's dialogue implies that True Resets erase the memories/deja vu of everyone besides the one preforming them). Also, why would you be talking as if you were equals to a person you've been controlling the entire time? That feels a bit odd to me.
The behavior of out-of-player-control actions starting in Snowdin is vastly different in this route, and the implication is that this is Chara's doing. Rushing through introductions/cutscenes with Sans and Papyrus and refusing to do puzzles. Starting in Waterfall, the surprised encounter icon is replaced with a smile (associated with them by that being their sprite's default expression). Threatening Monster Kid & Flowey (with a "creepy face" associated with them by the True lab tapes). Slashing Sans and Asgore. Mercilessly & Sadistically cutting down Flowey. They are controlling or heavily influencing Frisk.
Chara controlling Frisk and claiming ownership of Frisk's body/action seems very similar to how Toby portrays the relationship between a player character and their player. While Chara is OUR player character, Frisk would basically be Chara's player character. Chara is controlling Frisk and claiming ownership of the actions they make Frisk do, exactly like a player would. They act as both player and player character. Your player character, and the player of Frisk.
To cite a funny quote (from a video) that boils down my arguments surrounding the genocide route quite well: "Because really, the concept of an entity bearing the player name possessing the player avatar to do evil stuff is so blatantly on the nose that you need to do some intense eyesight contortionism to not see what the game is telling you."
They call themself "the demon that comes when you call it's name," a direct reference to the naming screen of the game. They refer to themself as the feeling you get when stats increase. They ask you to "erase this pointless world" (delete Undertale) and "move onto the next" (play another video game). If you choose erase, they call you a great partner and say that you and them will be "together forever." This seems to imply that as you go through the genocide route, they start embodying an aspect of you that relates to grinding in video games, beating them, and erasing them to move onto others. This is another thing that makes them and the player inseperable.
Even with those two lines, I think this interpretation is extremely strong and seems to at least be close to Toby's intent. It also keeps getting reinforced:
Chara's monologues do contain lines that present a problem to this theory/interpretation. The first one is "Since when were you the one in control?" The second one is "But. You and I are not the same, are we?" The second happens directly after Chara calls themself an emotion you feel while leveling up in games (basically saying they're a part of you) and in context refers to how you keep playing through Undertale's genocide route instead of doing anything else. Chara stopped being able to understand you outside of your drive for power and completion they claim to represent, but I don't think this actually necessarily causes any problems for the rest of this theory.
The Important person shirt is in both Undertale and Deltarune's sections on fangamer's merch site, and while it is clearly Kris' shirt in design, its description should also apply to Chara because it's being sold as a shirt for them as well. This description of it from the newsletter is what added the "It will make you look like someone with an important connection to you." The "You" also gets replaced by whatever name you subscribed to the newsletter with.
This Twitter thread by Wandydoodles is where I got the Flowey/Asriel motivations from. Additionally, despite not agreeing with Oblivion theory's conclusions regarding Deltarune, I think its Undertale/Chara analysis is really great and deserves a read.
While the shirt has been used to argue about Kris' DR counterpart, I don't think the description is referring to that topic at all, as it focuses on specifically the connection the shirt's bearers share with the player. The only connection I can think of is that both Chara and Kris are player characters. If you think Frisk is the player character of Undertale and Chara is a third party, they don't really have any connection to the player at all. We also don't name Kris, unlike Chara. I would actually like to see other interpretations of this because I genuinely cannot think of any other possible "important connection" Kris and Chara could both individually share with the player.
---
This Youtube video by Grim Dreamer was a inspiration. While it is primarily a NarraChara debunk video, the creator proposes the same theory this post is about as a part of the analysis.

Quote 1: "Ah. Your prejudice made my bluff too effective, I see. … besides, even IF I threw him, he would just… Bounce. My son… is… A bouncy little pumpkin." - Spade King, Deltarune
Quote 2: “To my people, I am a hero… to you? I’m the bad guy!” - Spade King, Deltarune
Propaganda under cut
Quote 1: i like this quote because in chapter 1 it felt like the game was distinguishing itself from undertale by featuring an antagonist who really was just evil, and the scene he's referring to here was a big part of that, but this comment totally recontextualizes it. it's still kind of a dick move, but at least he wasn't actually putting his son in any danger
Quote 2: Spade King is an awesome guy, and this quote is probably the coolest part of the chapter. It’s a direct callback to Lancer’s fight at the start of the game, but with a completely different tone. Spade King is the first person to be a true threat to you and this quote shows that well, and it just generally fucks hard. Spade King is a cooler villain than people give him credit for and i will die on this hill

Undertale Alphys theory
HOLY CRAP I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING!!!
Everyone always points to the code in undertale for evidence about gaster.
(ex: the placeholder quote that directly describes the mystery man sprite)
But to my knowledge NO ONE and I mean
No one
To my knowledge ever references one well known main undertale character who also has a message in the code of undertale.
Alphys....

At the bottom of this screenshot there is a message that you see if you attempt to look in undertales files to find out who alphys crush is...
Not a lot of people mention this quote and when they do they write it off as a joke.
BUT THINK ABOUT THE WHAT THIS QUOTE IMPLIES!!
The text says "WHO I HAVE A CRUSH ON" meaning it is confirmed that Alphys is the one writing this message.
To my knowledge their is no other MAIN characters leaving messages in undertales code besides Alphys and gaster.
(and possible Chara but I may be thinking about something found in deltarunes code and I don't think toby fox's message about spoilers has any lore implications)
However entry 17 is only a part of a conversation that Gaster was having while talking to Two other people. It is not gaster directly acknowledging the player like he does in deltarune.
ALPHYS IS TALKING DIRECTLY TO THE PLAYER/DATA MINER LOOKING IN UNDERTALES CODE!
The only other person to directly talk to the player is Chara in the genocide route. Which implies Alphys knows quite a lot more than we thought she did.
It also strengthens the theory that she may have something to do with Gaster. And it is commonly assumed that Gaster has a connection with sans in some way.
AND WE KNOW FOR A FACT ALPHYS AND SANS ARE CONNECTED!
Sans has a quantum physics book and both he and papyrus have weird abilities/knowledge....
Alphys is a science and is capable of somehow leaving messages in undertales code
"what do you two think"
"You two"...
Alphys and sans...
With this new information to consider alphys and sans are truly the most qualified candidates.
Maybe this means alphys will have a Massive role in a future chapter of deltarune.
Time will tell....
If you have any information to bring to the table to support or debunk this theory, please do leave a comment or reblog. If I find something else I'll make an update post.

copy pasting my knight papyrus take from my main
ok so im bored and i know no one will probably read this so im gonna lay out my papyrus knight theory/au timeline
for simplicity ill break it into three segments: what happened before to set up this chain of events, how and why papyrus does it, and bare bones evidence
1 before deltarune
generally this is working off my "gaster is bad at math theory" which, to summarize, basically says gaster started as a scientist in deltarune with 2 kids (sans and paps) accidentily fucks up the math and teleports to undertale, uses deltarunes superior tech to create the core, fucks up the math and falls in, frisk/player pulls up, after a bit sans and paps dip but gaster fucks up the math postmortem and they get stuck in deltarune resulting in papyrus becoming a hermit who accidentally opens a darkworld in his closet and then does the fucking grinch smile and causes a ruckus
2 why tho
how papyrus does it: something something prophecy, destiny, gaster fuckery, what have you. effectively via the same plot convenient saving grace that allows us to close the darkworlds and control kris
why does he do it: same reason he spares frisk in geno. he sees that characters like kris, berdly, susie and noelle and knows that they can do better, they just need to try. and what better reason to try than life threatening adventure? (sidenote: i fucking despise when people make the excuse of "Oh HeS bEiNg ~MaNiPuLaTeD~ bY ______" like no shut up let papyrus be morally ambiguous dammit) he is also likely aware of the titan situation and is just deadass like "NO I CAN TAKE THEM IN A 1V1 I THINK" also it makes sense narratively due to his incomplete character arc
3 DA FAX
the closet the chapter 2 darkworld was likely started from can fit and i quote "a large person" (especially combined with the skeletons in my closet line in undertale), he has been set up by sans to have a late game appearance, no alibis in chapter 1 or 2, in chapter 2 the "trousling bones" mentioned when interacting with the door of sans' house grows distant as another darkworld closes, as mentioned in section 2 his arc is still incomplete and as mentioned in my papyrus backstory post we dont even have a clue as to half the shit he's hiding, as a more meta reason bonetrousle was originally the main theme of deltarune, the "secret name" line from papyrus qna 2, the jevil reference dialogue in papyrus qna 2, and probably the most solid motive out of the candidates. that being the fact he believes so much in that people can do good if they try, to exercise that from a more cynical perspective of these beliefs (i.e people wont try unless they have to) could look like forcing them by way of obscure supernatural prophecy and lifechanging perilous adventure
bonus: why other candidates are dumb
gerson is fucking dead
gaster, while likely behind the secret bosses, seems a bit occupied with fucking with reality and would rather cast someone else (like his son????)
dess is currently entangled in the code and likely cant have much effect on the actual world
mrs. holiday seems like a better candidate for character development by darkworld than creator of darkworld
asriel is at college
kris has been controlled by us for most of the game and i aint see them open a darkworld beyond the one post chapter 2
player, i dont know about you guys, but i have not opened a darkworld
new character sounds REALLY boring tbh
ralsei, rouxls, and any darkner candidate are ruled out due to queens speech
#deltarune#undertale#papyrus#deltarune theory#papyrus undertale#knight papyrus#papyrus is the knight#papyrus the skeleton#the great papyrus#knight deltarune#in this essay i will#essay

Hi! Do you have written explanations for the Cringetober themes? I understand you already have made a video where you explain the themes but because English is not my first language it's sometimes hard to understand everything from just speech.
I didn’t until 2 minutes ago, but here they are!
screenshot redraw - something easy we have screenshot redraw, this can be from a TV show or cartoon or movie or whatever. you can replace the characters or just redo it in your own style
tsundere - a tsundere is the trope where a character, usually a girl, pretends to find their love interest annoying out of embarrassment for their crush
oversized prop - pretty straight forward. love a good disproportional hammer
fursona / fursuit - first bit of encouragement to explore outside 2D illustration. i know full suits are expensive, so let this be your sign to make or design a partial yourself out of whatever you have lying around; cardboard, fabric and wire, even paper. of course, you can stick to drawing your fursona
gjinka - it's a humanization of anything, whether that be a pokemon or other monster character, an animal, a concept or emotion like inside out, an object or even something like an app
unnatural eye color - fairly straightforward, character with weird eyes
crossover - characters from different media interacting with one another
dead meme - perfect opportunity for people like me who see a meme or trend going around and then, by the time they get around to it, its well run its course
childhood videogame - this can be any game you played when you were younger, but i was specifically thinking of stuff like pokemon, sonic, mario, minecraft, five nights at freddy's, or undertale
ship dynamics - a relationship dynamic or overused cliche
5+1 things - fairly common trope in fanfiction, it refers to a character or characters experiencing 5 similar events that all go roughly the same way, as well as another similar event that this time ends up pretty different. it can be happy or sad, and of course you can stick to a comic or illustration, but fanfiction or creative writing in general is often looked down upon, so i think y’all should at least try to write something
hatsune miku / vocaloid - any vocaloid, doesn’t have to be part of the main vocaloid suite. people make cool interpretations of hatsune miku’s design specifically, but you can do any character you’d like
rule 63 - for every male character, there exists a female counterpart, and for every female character, there exists a male counterpart. basically, genderbends
incorrect quote - you can depict a character (original or not) saying any kind of iconic quote that you think suits them
animation meme - most classic animation memes are actually really simple with somewhat jerky movements, which is ideal for those just starting animation. if you've always wanted to animate but the concept seemed too daunting, here's the opportunity for you! of course, you can just reference popular animation memes with a still image if you’d prefer
something you've been bullied for - there are a lot of things that are considered cringe that a person can't change about themselves, even if they want or try to. i didn't want to single out any specific insecurities, so i left it broad enough for it to apply to everyone. it's kind of like a free space to celebrate anything about yourself that you've felt ashamed of
f2u base - f2u stands for 'free to use', basically an empty sketch you can use to draw whatever characters you want. this can be interpreted as either making or using a free base, so do whichever one you'd prefer. if you're using a base, just remember to credit the original artist if you post it
Fandom AU - good simple fun. draw characters you like from a piece of media you like in any alternate universe you like
alternative fashion - your opportunity to experiment with a fashion style you've always thought was cool but were too nervous to try. alternatively, (haha) draw a character in alt fashion
tumblr sexywoman - a female character that is, for whatever reason, incredibly popular and found attractive
closet cosplay - build a cosplay using only things you already have in your closet! I wanted to encourage people to get into cosplay since it’s such a fun hobby
candygore - gory drawings that involve pastel colors and sometimes literal candy iconography
adult cartoons - cartoons intended for older audiences, ex. Hazbin Hotel, Smiling Friends, Amazing Digital Circus

The Knight is Mayor Holiday
AKA “You might be overthinking the ‘Who is the Knight’ question”
One of the biggest discussions I’ve seen in regard to Deltarune relate to the identity of the Knight, the presumed main antagonist of the story and the one behind opening Dark Fountains in Hometown. Many candidates have been discussed, each with varying reasoning and evidence for them.
But all of the discussion feels a bit… reachy, at times. I think some people are expecting some crazy reveal that needs 4D chess analysis to figure out, when it makes more sense to simply analyze it from the angle of Deltarune’s overarching story and character arcs. In a good story, these kind of things don’t come out of nowhere, and Toby’s narratives are no slouch in being well structured and detailed.
Which have lead me to a pretty simple conclusion: the Knight is Mayor Holiday, Noelle’s mother.
But let’s back up a bit.
Before anything else– who Mayor Holiday is.
She’s Noelle’s Mom, Rudy’s wife, and the Mayor of Hometown. She’s responsible for organizing the Festival coming up later in the week that has been mentioned by multiple characters.

She has been mentioned to be a bit of a stern figure, hard on Noelle and making her home life difficult due to Rudy being on the hospital and unable to mediate things at home.
Her name likely starts with a C, as the letter on Asgore’s wall regarding his rent is signed with that as the initial. Her stern wording with Asgore here also makes sense for reasons I’ll discuss later.
That’s most of what we know so far. Plenty of stuff can be inferred from those details and other aspects of the story, but those are the main bits for now. Now, moving onto the Knight itself.
So far, in Deltarune, multiple times Darkner characters have referred to “the Knight”, specifically being implied to be the one creating dark fountains across Hometown.

So far, a few things have been made clear about the Knight:
1.) The Knight is a defined character within Deltarune and not just an abstract concept
One take I’ve heard being bounced around a bunch is that there isn’t one particular Knight in Deltarune, and that, in fact, there are multiple.
While I don’t think this is completely untrue, Queen’s dialogue positing that she could make Noelle into a new Knight shows that. However, this also shows that the Knight wasn’t a predefined role– the current, main Knight opened the fountains and became known as the Knight due to how they presumably presented themselves. Seam describes them as having locked away three of the four kings of Card Castle, meaning they have had direct interaction with the Dark Worlds themselves. This is how their title of “Knight” was known in the first place by King and Seam.
To me, this shows that, while the role of Knight is interpreted as a particular person. Queen wasn’t positing that anyone who opens a fountain is labeled as a Knight, but rather that she would make Noelle into a replacement, a new knight in the previous’s place.
One particular piece of evidence I want to point to is this quote from the UNDERTALE 6th Anniversary Stream, where Toby described an idea he had for an opening animation for Deltarune:

This is what makes me most strongly believe that the Knight is meant to be a defined character. If the Knight was a misdirection, and is rather a title used to refer to anyone who opens a Dark Fountain, Toby referring to a silhouette of the Knight looking down at the other characters wouldn’t make sense, because multiple people would be the knight and need to be there. His vision depicted one figure being seen as the Knight, opposing the characters atop the staircase and next to the door.
While other characters can and do open Dark Fountains (Kris at the end of Chapter 2 being a prime example) and this could make them knights in their own right, they are not THE Roaring Knight, the specific Knight that Seam, King, Jevil, the Swatchlings, and Queen refer to.
2.) The Knight is responsible for opening fountains throughout Hometown
This is a much simpler point to make clear. The two fountains we have thus seen in Hometown have likely both been opened by the aforementioned Knight.
In Chapter 1, it’s stated that the Card Castle fountain is recent, unlike the Castle Town one, described as being created recently by the Knight that put King in power.
In Chapter 2, the Swatchlings and Queen again refer to the Knight, saying that it was the one who created their world. Given Queen’s relation to King, it is likely they speak of the same figure, which is reinforced by the inexplicable appearance of the library fountain, similar to the storage room one. This creates a pattern indicating the same character is likely behind both.
“But how are you so sure it’s Mayor Holiday?”
Simple, she has all of the traits and narrative ingredients to fit the role in a satisfying manner that is coherent with the current story.
1.) NARRATIVE COHERENCE
Deltarune thusfar has had the relationship between the Dreemurr and Holiday families as a focal point of it, having grown apart ever since the disappearance of December Holiday. It is the reason for many of the occurrences in the story, like Kris and Noelle drifting apart, Asgore losing his job, and more. This conflict underlies much of Deltarune’s narrative and character arcs, and thus it makes sense for the Knight to relate to that conflict given its focus in the story.
2.) MOTIVATION
Mayor Holiday also has pretty clear motivation for WHY she would be the Knight. Her daughter, December, has been missing for what is presumably years after an event that clearly took a toll on her. It was shown in the Police Station that Asgore was removed from his role there:
The only person that would presumably have the power to do this would be the mayor, as the Chief would be the highest rank within the force itself.
Asgore failing to find December after her disappearance would absolutely be reason enough for Mayor Holiday to fire Asgore. She lost her daughter, and would see Asgore’s failure as unforgivable given his position.
Because of this, Mayor Holiday clearly has a vested interest in finding December. Finding December is still seen by those who know her as a possibility, specifically with the track “FINDHER” being released during the Spamton Sweepstakes. Opening the Dark Worlds makes perfect sense as a way for Mayor Holiday to try and find December.
Given what we know of the bunker incident, chances are her disappearance wasn’t conventional, and Mayor Holiday would realize finding her wouldn’t be conventional either. This would lead to her opening fountains, attempting to find December in the darkness. Her not finding December in the first few Dark Worlds could lead to her trying to go deeper, darker, potentially trying to bring about the Roaring via the Town’s festival she’s responsible for organizing. It makes perfect sense for why she’d be opening them up given what we know.
3.) PROPER BUILDUP
What’s important in a narrative is to build up ideas and characters as the story progresses. It’s why characters develop in arcs, change happens gradually, and thus it makes sense to gradually introduce concepts that will become important later.
The festival is clearly something that is being built up as what is likely the capstone for Deltarune, potentially the stage for the final Dark World or the Roaring itself, as it seems like it will take place at the end of the week, right before Asriel comes back home.
This is being done through small character dialogues, starting somewhat small with the characters at the Mayor’s office referring to it coming up and Mayor Holiday working on organizing it, to more direct foreshadowing with Susie talking about it with Kris in the ending of Chapter 2.
The slow buildup of the Festival directly parallels the slow buildup of Mayor Holiday herself, being mentioned in Chapter 1 to being given more references in Chapter 2, with Noelle’s arc of gathering the courage to stand up to Queen, who is clearly a stand-in for a mother figure for Noelle. Given how hard Mayor Holiday is on Noelle, it makes sense gathering this courage is something she would need in her personal life as well.
Noelle is going to likely stay a major character, too. She’s the centerpoint of the Weird Route thusfar, saying to herself in the hospital that she needs to find out what’s happening with Kris, implying she’ll have a major role in that story. Alongside this, the screenshot given of her in Chapter 4 also implies she’ll remain a major player moving forward.
If Noelle’s arc continues as it has, it only makes sense that she’ll eventually gather the courage to stand up to her mother in the light world as well, which would also flow well if Mayor Holiday ended up being the Main Antagonist, giving Noelle’s development a direct relationship to the main conflict.
Probably the biggest reason I think it’s Mayor Holiday: she actually has a connection to Kris and Noelle.
Like I said, the relationship between the Dreemurrs and Holidays is a focal point of Deltarune’s narrative. Given this conflict, it would give Kris and Noelle, two of the main characters, a direct relationship with the main antagonist. It sows seeds for how they develop, how they relate to the overarching conflict, and how it might be resolved. If the Knight was, say, Papyrus or Alvin, their identity as the Knight would have far less narrative weight.
I could talk more about why I don’t think it’s those two, but that’s probably the most concise way I can put it– it wouldn’t make for as interesting of a story. Papyrus hasn’t been given a meaningful connection to Kris, to Noelle, to that town, not that we know of. Him being the Knight wouldn’t make for an interesting reveal because we only know him in the context of Undertale. He has been given no stake in Deltarune thusfar, which wouldn’t make as much sense because Toby wants Deltarune to be seen as separate from Undertale. Mayor Holiday directly connects with the main themes and conflicts of Deltarune, and thus would make the most sense for being the main antagonist.
———
So, uh, yeah. It’s Mayor Holiday. Evil mom truthers can hop on board with me and be totally awesome and correct. Sorry if this was a bit long winded, figured I’d rather be concise than understate my ideas. Feel free to correct me on any front, or if you think there’s reasoning for another knight or how they would be more compelling.

I just think it would've been interesting if Gaster was an actual real person in the universe of the game rather than an entity that exists in some reality above it. Thats why i based the theory around that

quoting the wiki; "If Mystery Man is turned upside down, their clothing and hands resemble another face. Notably, before interaction, this face appears to be surprised, but after interaction, it appears calmer, contrary to Mystery Man's surprised expression."
This is yet another instance of UT/DR using the concept of "As Above, so Below". This time quite literally. Its worth mentioning how this sprite is also subverting the phrase, as each "face" is in the opposite state of the other.
(Btw this concept is also linked to Baphomet, depictions of the demon using both arms to point up and down.)
What I want to point out is the meaning of the phrase; The "below" is the lower realm/plane of existence, the "above" the higher realm/plane. What happens in one, is linked to the other.
This is most likely a reference to how the Dark and Light World works in the Deltarune universe...
But I also have a theory: While its possible this "Mystery Man" isn't actually Gaster, this may be an abstract representation of him?
A man that is linked to both the lower and higher realm simultaneously...
After all, we do know Gaster was a person in Undertale that at one point people have interacted with. We don't know about the Deltarune world's Gaster, but is he really a being in a plane above it, like we assume?
Could he not be in the same situation as the Secret Bosses and Kris? trapped in this world, yet aware of the 4th wall?
Only, he is the only one able to affect it

I made a post last year looking for rp partners, and I swear most (not all) people just read the "looking for people to rp with" and not the rest. I literally put what I'm interested in rping and my limits, yet when they DM me to plan one, they're always surprised by the key factor. And I quote:
"In regard to the harem aspect, I usually share the Canon romanceable characters with my partners. Which means my rp partner and I can both romance all the romanceable boys or just the characters we're both interested in."
So when they double check I'm good with a fandom I mentioned, and I bring this up, I usually get responses like: "I'm not comfortable with that," "that's not what I'm looking for," or nothing. Which is fine, but then why message me when I explicitly stated that I like to romance all the guys I like and share them? I don't understand.
Also, for clarification, the only reason I put "usually shares" is because some of my past rp partners only wanted to romance some of the guys, not all of them. Though I have had rps where my partner and I shared all the prospective romance options.
Point is, I want to rp with someone who doesn't mind sharing the love of these characters in rp format. Is that too much to ask?
If you're curious who the characters are, I'm referring to Sans, Papyrus, and their variants from Undertale, the turtle brothers (aged up) from TMNT, and the DCA bots from FNAF Security Breach.

So there's this really important rhythm in the UT/DR soundtrack that is as follows: dotted-eighth sixteenth tied to another eighth, followed by another eighth tied to a sixteenth, followed by a dotted eighth then two straight eighths.
This originates in Penumbra Phantasm, as shown here (doubled in length)
We (me and my insane deltarune theorist roommate, @bigsco-official) first realized that this was in ASGORE's bassline, seen here
It's already been shown (very well) that this rhythmic motif is in Hopes and Dreams
youtube
I was curious how many other UT/DR songs had this rhythm, so I started at the beginning of the complete piano score. Lo and behold, the main accent pattern for Enemy Approaching
This also means that anything that riffs off of Enemy Approaching also has it by default, including Dating Tense
Bring It In, Guys!
and maaaaaaayyyyyybe Rude Buster (this one's more sound based, but the rhythm is there source: trust me)
But there are some more interesting songs where it's prevalent, namely in Run!'s bassline (uses rests instead of ties, but the rhythm is still the same)
This leaks over into Battle Against a True Hero, where it comprises a significant portion of the main melody
While we're talking about genocide route, Power of "NEO" is ONLY comprised of this rhythm
Within Deltarune, Chaos King's bassline has this
It's also in Lost Girl (and by extension, findher.ogg)
and also Ferris Wheel
And Girl Next Door too
And of course because it's found in Power of "NEO", it's in Big Shot
So the full list of songs includes: ASGORE Hopes and Dreams Enemy Approaching (and Dating Tense and Bring It In Guys!) Rude Buster Run! Battle Against a True Hero Power of "NEO" Chaos King Lost Girl (and Ferris Wheel and findher.ogg and Girl Next Door) Big Shot
So what does this actually mean? It means Toby loves this rhythm and it sounds good @bigsco-official theorizes that: The data that we currently have, both narrative and musical leads us to a glaringly obvious but also fairly boring conclusion: Toby Fox loves to use the Doctor/Penumbra Phantasm motif. Considering that he has, in the past stated that George Buzinkai's Doctor was a "turning point for me as a musician," it feels like Toby has used this motif and rhythm out of a labor of love. For most of the songs in this list, especially those related to UNDERTALE, we are do not believe that the Doctor motif has major significance to tell in the story--it's just a neat part of how Toby uses and reuses motifs. When it comes to DELTARUNE, we might be able to extrapolate a bit more information as Penumbra Phantasm might have more connections. It's a stretch, but considering the name of the song (as well as Toby's automatic response to the song being "S H A T T E R T H E T W I L I G H T R E V E R I E," it is entirely plausible that it will end up having some connection to the game--and that's what we want to know. We're going to go through all three of the songs quickly and see what we can't extrapolate. BIG SHOT is easy to get out of the way. The only Penumbra rhythm is from the Power of NEO countermelody, so the concept of UNDERTALE songs being a labor of love to the motif applies. Chaos King is an interesting one. Centered as the rhythm in the bassline, it could show a further connection to the character that the Penumbra motif belongs to, although that is yet obscure. Obviously Chaos King references the Knight many a time--and perhaps could be some counter evidence to Nightmare Knight being the Roaring Knight's main theme. Now it's time for what you've probably been waiting for, which is the Lost Girl motif, present in Girl Next Door, Lost Girl, Ferris Wheel, findher.ogg, and the unused sneaking.ogg. While perhaps less direct than other quotes, it audibly riffs off of the main Penumbra melody and therefore seems to connect both Noelle (and by extension, Dess) directly to it. Some speculation (and some very nice fansongs) believe that Penumbra will be the theme for the final confrontation against the ANGEL'S HEAVEN, this could provide some evidence in that direction--especially considering Noelle being referred to as an angel multiple times over. It could also lead directly into a confrontation theme against Noelle, perhaps during future weird routes. Only time will tell how it specifically will come to use, but it seems that it is most intentionally used around Noelle (and again, by extension, Dess) and can be added to the insurmountable evidence that Noelle is going to be a main plot driver moving forward in DELTARUNE's story.

Why are A CYBER'S WORLD and WELCOME TO THE CITY... Like That?
[Title text: "Why are A Cyber's World and Welcome to the City.... Like that?" with the track names in all caps. End text.]
I know now is a weird time to come down with Deltarune Brain-Wormes (affectionate), but as is always the case when I come down with the Brain-Wormes, I rewatched the Andrew Cunningham video on Gaster's Theme, as if this time I'd make a new connection that somehow eluded me all six or so times before. Except... this time, I actually did realize something!
For context, Andrew identifies a Gaster's Theme reference in Welcome to the City with "low-ish" probability of brainrot, ie a relatively reliable quote of the leitmotif — and he finds this mildly vexing, as did I. Because Scarlet Forest has a very strong Gaster quote, and that makes two consecutive "second areas" in Dark Worlds with Gaster-y music, yet no clear thematic connection to the good doctor — unless you presume Gaster to be the egg man, who appears in both areas — but then A Cyber's World immediately quashes that connection, by sharing the Gaster-adjacent melody that Welcome to the City has, and we all know Cyber Field has no egg man.
So, like... that clearly begs the question, what's up with that? Waiter, there's some Gaster in my Cyber World! Is this not a reliable Gaster's Theme sighting after all? Did Toby just let it slide in by accident?
Well, I don't think so. And upfront, I don't actually have a lore explanation for the Gaster hints. But I do have evidence that Toby did it on purpose, for some reason — and that we might need to pay more attention to Cyber Field and Cyber World going forward. Because, I mean, just look at this:
[ID from alt: a screenshot of the 6th and 17th tracks in the Deltarune official soundtrack. They are A Cyber's World? and Welcome to the City respectively, both written in all caps. End ID.]
I don't even know where to begin with the weirdness of these two tracks, as they appear on the soundtrack. I mean, they're capitalized! They're the only capitalized tracks from Chapter 2 that aren't Spamton-related!
Gaster talks in all caps! The secret bosses, which are rife with musical and textual Gaster references in their own right, talk in all caps! The only Chapter 1 tracks in caps are Another Him, The World Revolving, and The Holy! Almost as Gaster-y as you can get! Yet while we're back in the Card Kingdom, neither Field of Hopes and Dreams, nor Scarlet Forest, are in all caps! So why are their analogues?
And if that wasn't weird enough... Cyber Field and Cyber City have the sixth and seventeenth track, respectively! You know, like stats of 666, like fun values in the 60s? Like Entry Number 17? Chapter 1's sixth and seventeenth track, Cliffs and Checker Dance, are neither in caps nor otherwise reeking of Gaster! Genuinely, what the hell is going on here?
...Did Toby literally just happen to notice these tracks were 6th and 17th respectively, and throw in the caps to fuck with us? The Gaster motif sightings make me seriously doubt it. And the fact that Kris and Susie's first foray into the Cyber World, walking on green platforms that by all means look identical to the Cyber Field proper is suspiciously silent, with no sign of the Cyber Field theme — until Queen shows up with two whole tracks, ensuring A Cyber's World gets pushed back to Track 6 — well, it could absolutely just be to build an unsettling atmosphere while the player is presumably disoriented. But there's so many Gaster-colored flags here that it needs to be examined, right?
The only other thing I can think of is how Gaster really put emphasis on "fields" in the Chapter 2 announcement... but that doesn't explain why Field of Hopes and Dreams isn't equally suspicious, nor account for the weirdness of Cyber City:
[ID from alt: a tweet from Gaster, via the Undertale account, reading: "The second field. The second connection." in all caps with a link to deltarune.com. End ID.]
Truly, I don't know. This seems like something we might not be able to solve with the information we have as of Chapter 2, but it's simultaneously hard to leap to that conclusion when this doesn't even look that much like a recurring pattern from Chapter 1. Is Gaster or a related entity naming these tracks — like how Gaster names certain "devices" in the code all caps, for things like the Goner Maker sequence? I mean, maybe, but then why? I have more questions than answers.
In summary, I guess... you know how Deltarune showed us that in hindsight, Waterfall in Undertale had been really freaking suspicious, in some ways we recognized but other ways that were right under our noses? I just think that Cyber Fiend and Cyber City might wind up in a similar position, after future Deltarune chapters.
#deltarune#deltarune theory#long post#i noticed the 6/17 and caps thing when ch. 2 dropped actually#but i didn't realize there was actual legitimate youtuber-verified (/hj) gaster inside those tracks yet#anyways! feels like something to at *least* put a bookmark in
