LAFGSLKRGHLSKGH THIS IS SO FUN HELP WHY DIDNT I KNWO THIS EXISTED-
ANYWAYSSSSS
i gto very little ships (sadly) so im gonna go with both platonic and romantic ehehehe
Annexander (is it how were calling it?? idk) (@holdmyteaplease ur the expert on this give me a feedback)
Alexander: Think you can answer some questions without the usual level of sarcasm? Anne: If you can ask the questions without the usual level of stupid.
Alexander: *shatters a window and climbs through it* Alexander: *turns around and helps Anne through it* Breaking and entering is wrong Anne. Anne: Okay. Anne: Shut it Alexander, I only shook your hand because I had to. We will NEVER be friends. Alexander: Lets survive this together! Anne: I HOPE YOU DIE. Anne: Fellas, I gotta know for science. Is the opposite of red green or blue? Alexander: Technically a mix of green and blue? Anne: So blurple. Alexander: That's implying you're mixing blue and purple. Anne: Would you rather have fucking bleen? MOTHERFUCKING GRUE? Alexander: You were confusing before but now I'm scared Anne, holding a scooter: Alexander! Can I go outside and play with this? Alexander: Sure, whatever. I'm not your parent, okay? Anne, running outside: Thanks Alexander! Alexander, running out after them and screaming: NOT ON THE STREET! STAY AWAY! Alexander: It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s free: pouring river water in your socks! Anne: Why would I do that? Alexander: It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s free!
HELP CAUSE WHY IS THIS SO THEMMMM AKFGASKJGF
Anne and Indigo (the absolute besties)
Anne: So... what would you do if you were in bed with me? Indigo: Depends. Is your bed comfortable? Anne: Yes. Indigo: I'd sleep.
*Anne sends more than 5 messages in a row* Indigo: I ain’t reading all that. Indigo: I’m happy for you tho. Indigo: Or sorry that happened. Anne: I have a plan. Indigo: Good! As long as we aren’t breaking the law again, I’m open to hearing it. Anne: … Indigo: … Anne: I no longer have a plan.
Anne: Oh, so when crows remember people who wronged them and hold grudges, its “intelligent” and “really cool”. Anne: But when I do it, I’m “petty” and “need to let it go”.
ok... this is scarily accurate...
Alexis and Claire (friends to lovers complete dumbasses edition)(they have exactly 1 brain cell and they take turns being the responsible one. most times i gets forgotten at home)
Alexis: My hands are cold. Claire: Here, let me hold them. Alexis: My lips are cold too. Claire: *covers Alexis's mouth with their hand* Alexis: You’d be stupid to lay a hand on me. Claire: Oh, you’d be surprised how much stupid shit I do. Claire: You either buckle down and do your work or you’ll end up at McDonalds. Alexis: We're going to McDonalds if I don't do my work? Claire: NO- Alexis: What do you do for a living? Claire: I exist against my will. Alexis: Claire, I have a question. Claire: What is it, Alexis? Alexis: What color is an orange? Claire: Alexis, you bonehead! Its color is the same as its name. Just like a lemon. Alexis: I hope no one lowkey hates me. Alexis: Highkey hate me. Hate me with every fiber of your being. Alexis: Go big or go home.
THIS IS FUN. VERY FUN.

ngl i think that if steve cobs had a tragic backstory it could've made ii so much better. i'm not saying he should be redeemed, i'm saying that among the sea of frenetic antithetic little iconoclasts, having one just straight-up be irredeemable would be nice to see. a tragic backstory is meant to make the audience sympathise with a character and possibly even justify everything that character does. but with cobs? hell nah, there is NOTHING justifiable about him. he is a shitty person on countless levels, he refuses to change, and giving him a sob story would give his character a moral for the audience: that it doesn't matter what someone's past is, if they refuse to change and continue to be shitty without even apologizing then they're a shit person.
if cobs had a tragic origin or something, it could also highlight the differences between (possibly) being a narcissist (taco, someone who COULD'VE been a shit person but she realized she was hurting the people around her and wanted to change) and just being a shit person (cobs) (also i know a lot of people dislike AE for how they treated gender and disability rep in the past, and this could be another way of them showing "we've changed from when we were 14")
also yes i do believe taco is a narcissist, not because "guys she's evil" but because my god does she have an inferiority complex and a black-and-white view of things not to mention this quote from mic: "you don't say sorry to make it better, you say sorry because it's the right thing to do." also because she is relatable as hell

ask game - top five favourite female characters :3
ok so we collectively decided that i will do top five from dramas and then top five from other forms of media, so this is gonna be a long post 😌
top five favourite female characters from dramas
number one. koh ae ri from the eighth sense
she is for real one of my favourite secondary characters of all time. she is so funny and i absolutely love the way she teases her friends, bullying IS a love language yes. i also love how confident and slightly over-the-top she is, she can really stand up for herself and other people as well, which is an admirable quality. also, i am side-eyeing her and her bestie. 🫵🏳️🌈⁉️ ykwim
number two. ink from bad buddy
we all know what i think about bad buddy but that doesn't mean there aren't any characters in that series who i still cherish, and ink is definitely one of them! i feel like everything in the world has already been said about her and i don't even have to explain myself. we all love her.
number three. hashimoto mio from kieta hatsukoi
she is an icon, she is a legend, etc. etc. she is so so sweet and wonderful but can also hit you across the face so hard that you fly away if you deserve it. i don't even think that's like dramatic effect exaggeration, she will kick your ass if you're acting like a fucking idiot and i love that about her.
number four. choi yu na from semantic error
true bicon of our generation. greatest fashion sense in the world. so very tired of your bullshit (and that's absolutely fair). a great friend. *bows fifty times in respect*
number five. sunny from our dating sim
she doesn't get too much screen time but i love everything about what we see of her. she is very no-nonsense and deadpan, but also very emotionally intelligent and compassionate (she literally helps lee wan figure out why he started drawing and why it's still important to him, like she literally changes his life with one small conversation). what a legend.
top five favourite female characters from other media
number one. brienne of tarth from game of thrones (tv show)
ok yeah yeah horrible tv show. ANYWAY. i am fucking obsessed with brienne. she is SO!!!! KDGJDFJGDFJGKDF. sorry. what am i even supposed to say. she is a warrior both metaphorically and literally. she is the most knight-coded character of all time. no man can compare to her in knightly qualities. she is noble, she is loyal, she is fair. she is fucking iconic.
number two. clementine from the walking dead games (video game series)
i grew up with clem, actually. i was just a couple of years older than her when i first watched a playthrough of twdg. i suppose we have to make some space for the fact that she is a protagonist in 2.5/4 games, meaning that every player kind of decides what kind of a person she is on their own. but i think overall, no matter what choices you make, she always remains a very strong and resilient person. despite everything she's lost, she doesn't lose her humanity and manages to take great care of her found family (and her adopted younger brother, shout out to our murder baby aj <3). i am very proud of her, almost like she is a literal person who grew up in front of my eyes.
number three. lae'zel from baldur's gate 3 (video game)
ok, now this one was hard. not because i don't love lae'zel so much, but because there is an insanely long list of female characters from bg3 that i absolutely adore, and choosing just one was hard. in lae'zel's place, there could have been shadowheart or karlach or jaheira or either isobel or aylin from everyone's favourite divine lesbian duo or nine-fingers or or or. i can go on forever. but i picked lae'zel for this post. so, first thing you should know about her is that she can step on you and you will be thanking her for it if she does. she is just 21 years old, yet she goes through a completely worldview-shattering experience and comes out the other side not just alive, but with her head held high. her quote "what good this heart of stone, for it to be shattered?" absolutely kills me every time. i'm gonna stop here, but i could go on forever actually yes.
number four. josephine montilyet from dragon age inquisition (video game)
very similar situation with the dragon age games and the amount of characters i could choose. morrigan, isabela, and sera in particular were very strong contenders for this space. but i ended up choosing josie for this post. she is a very sweet and romantic character. she used to be a spy (and she actually got into it because she thought it sounded romantic - she's whimsical like that), but then she ended up killing someone she knew and that experience changed her forever. she is now a very successful diplomat, determined to deal with world's problems through any means other than violence. she is very open-minded, understanding, and just an absolutely lovely person overall.
number five. anne elliot from persuasion by jane austen (novel)
choosing a favourite jane austen herione is like choosing a favourite child, but here we are. the photos are from two different adaptations, and i appreciate both of them in different ways, though i don't think we have a 10/10 adaptation of persuasion just yet. anyway, anne is naturally a rather timid and people-pleasing person, which i think a lot of us can relate to, but throughout the book she really finds her own voice and stands her ground, while simultaneously not having to completely change her personality, which i really appreciate. not everyone can be sarcastic or witty or strong-willed and that's ok. she also definitely shines as the undeniably smartest austen herione, as she figures out all the secrets, decidedly does not trust clearly untrustworthy albeit charming gentlemen, and is overall incredibly sensible, which means it's very easy to read her inner dialogue, because you never find yourself sighing at how blind she is at something that's happening. she sees everything. being inside her head is a great time.
#this is very rambly but you know kgjdflkjkfdlg#also can u tell im a gaymer lmao#archer responds#dee tag

Incorrect Quotes Tag Game
Thank you so much for tagging me @cheeto-flavoured-pasta!! Check out his post here! This was way too much fun, I almost couldn't stop playing around with it xD
[Rules: Use this site to make random quotes for your OCs.]
Tenebris:
Derian: I like your new pants! Elior: Thanks, they were 50% off! Derian: I'd like them better if they were 100% off. *winks* Elior: The store can't just give away clothes for free. Derian: That's... not what I meant. Elior: That's a terrible way to run a business, Derian.
Ravenna: If I ever had a child, I imagine they would be a lot like you. Kendra: Aww, thanks- Ravenna: Which is probably why I've never reproduced.
Darkness: You're smiling. What happened? Kendra: What`? Can't I smile just because I feel like it? Light: Arun tripped and fell down the stairs today.
Darkness: I called you like ten times! Why didn't you pick up? Calore: *remembers dancing to the ringtone* Calore: I didn't hear it.
Aeternum:
Zalen: Say no to drugs. Nevras: Say yes to drugs. Thanea: It doesn't matter if you say yes or no to drugs. If you're talking to drugs.. then you're on drugs.
Thanea: Do you think I'm ugly? Nevras: It's not about looks, Thanea. What's valuable is on the inside... Thanea: Nevras... Nevras: For example, someone's heart. Thanea: Aw... Stop it- Nevras: It could be purchased for more than a million dollars, you know. Thanea: Seriously, stop it. (Why could this be an actual conversation from them asjskjcjkas)
Nevras: Hi could I ask how exactly does one accidentally set a lemon on fire? Gwenny: Microwave for 40 minutes. Zalen: WHY WERE YOU MICROWAVING A LEMON?! Gwenny: I read boiling lemons helps cover up bad smells and I wanted to cover up the scent of burnt oranges, but I didn't own any pots... Thanea: Did you burn an orange, too? HOW?! Gwenny: Microwave for 40 minutes.

Who did what?
AE: I wrote the story after two years of heavy world-building with Sheep. Actually, I made the graphics first. I wrote the story almost all in one go because it was Nanowrimo and I was fed up with my actual Nano project and needed a palate cleanser. And then it went through like three more drafts after that with comments and edits from Sheep. Except The Lighthouse and The Signal chapters, which easily went through five drafts. God, that chapter was such a pain.
SL: I don’t want to speak for the both of us, but I think this is the most “refining through reiteration” project I’ve ever been a part of. I don’t know if it was because we hadn’t set out with the express goal of writing this Turn Supernatural Universe in mind or because the world-building was so interwoven with our regular correspondence or what, but the process felt incredibly organic, like the pressure was off; in a way, it was rather freeing. Maybe that’s just because Apfel did all the writing. [laughs]
AE: I see what you mean. On the one hand, writing multiple drafts and really polishing up the ideas that go into the story–including scrapping some wholesale or tweaking them and then rewriting other sections to make them fit–is very much how I write any of my fics. It’s a familiar, if time-consuming process. But also, it was such a relief to have someone else in my corner [laughs]. Pulling in ideas that weren’t mine and responding to things I never would have thought of made the whole thing richer and more interesting. And if you came up with something that was in contrast to something I had already written it was actually very freeing to abandon my idea and try to incorporate yours instead. I never thought I would enjoy sharing creative control like that.
Why didn't you include Hewlett? There's at least one moment in the show where he appears very feral and entirely suited to the Frontier concept.
AE: That's a really good question. Sheep, do you remember? I thought it was just because we didn't think his core personality was aligned with what the Frontier draws out of people.
SL: Oof. Did we actively decide to exclude him? It’s true that he’s difficult to picture in this setting; I don’t think I ever found myself doing so. Maybe there’s your answer. He is very much an adherent of “civilisation” throughout much of the show, I suppose - which is of course an incredibly destructive construct in its own right. It would be interesting to explore how the Hewlett of late season four would fare in the Frontier. I’m just thinking of his monologue to Simcoe on the hospital ship, where he decides that instead of continuing the cycle of destruction, he is making the conscious choice to commit himself to a path of creation, of regeneration - which means abjuring not only the violence of war but also that of English colonial civilisation, although I might be giving him too much credit with that one. In any case, he not only commits himself to that path, but Simcoe, too, which is god-tier writing, if you ask me.
Why didn't you include Abe? A spy seems like a good fit for a liminal realm.
AE: I actually have the Telegram messages in front of me, here, I'll quote:
🐑: Abe also doesn't appear at all skdfkfl is that intentional? XD 🍎: Well XD I dunno, is he part of the Frontier? His spywork depends on civilization and the information gleaned there 🐑: That's fair. It would be understandable and hilarious if you just didn't want to deal with him for a change XD 🍎: I confess I find him difficult to deal with in any story XD 🐑: Like I said: Fair XD We don't need to shoe-horn him in on my account.
AE: ...Poor Abe, we've maligned him so much.
SL: It comes from a place of love!
AE: And honestly, I think he dodged a bullet here. Though I'm happy to take suggestions as to what his undead persona would be.
Do you have any other hidden lore?
AE: Yes. One of the fonts I use in the promotional graphics is called “Glacial Indifference”. I thought that was very fitting.
Any chance of a continuation?
SL: Well, never say never, right? I think this ‘verse harbours immense capacity for further exploration. But like I said, this whole endeavour feels more like a companion than a bounded work. I couldn’t say if that makes us more or less likely to keep working on it, or to keep coming back to it in the future.

ꕥ — WELCOME TO NEFE COSMIA, ROBIN.
ꕥ — OOC INFORMATION;
name / alias: giselle/elle
age: 27
pronouns: she/they
ooc contact: cinderdrift @ tumblr, @VA11HALL_A on twitter
other characters in xc: stelle (honkai: star rail), byleth (fire emblem three houses)
ꕥ — IC INFORMATION;
name: robin
age: 24
pronouns: she/her
series: honkai: star rail
canon point: patch 2.2
app triggers: animal injury/death, mass manipulation, gun violence/gun related injury, religious themes/imagery, parental death, body image/body shaming/general celebrity gossip culture
personality:
“Miss Robin, the readers are just dying to know – how would you describe yourself?”
The songstress pauses. It feels strange to try to hype herself up through words rather than actions, but she’s all too familiar with tabloids, press circuits, the quotes they run - and so she keeps it simple.
“I’d say I’m determined. My brother says I can be headstrong at times, and I can’t say I disagree. When I set my mind to something… I just go. I’ve been this way since I was a little girl.”
something your muse struggles with:
“What would you say you struggle with?”
Her lips purse together. She hates these kinds of questions. They never let her be vulnerable in the way she wants. They spend all of their time answering it for her, anyway. Comments about her weight, how she has a penchant for sweets; she can answer this the same way she always does, but… She reflects on another answer she gave to another interviewer before returning to Penacony. How freeing it was to speak the truth, her truth.
“My voice, strangely enough. The meaning of why I sing. Is it to cover up the hardship of the world, or is it to try to spread Harmony through the cosmos?”
your muse’s greatest strength:
“Your greatest strength?”
She thinks about all of the smiles of the children she’s taught to sing, in and out of her disguise. How each one of them fuels her, pushes her forward even when she feels like she might struggle to take another step forward.
“My hope. My hope that my song will help everyone join hand in hand, raising up one another through the power of music.”
history / background:
Anonymous post from a Robin fanblog, circa 2158 AE:
I hadn’t even realized it was Robin at first. The Robin, sitting right in front of me. I’d just been sitting, drinking a delicious glass of SoulGlad™ when a woman asked if she could share the table with me. I said yes, of course, since it’s the Land of Dreams, and I’d hate to be a nightmare and turn away someone from something so simple. In time, we got to talking, and I asked her where she was from.
She seemed… hesitant, at first. From behind the dark shade of her sunglasses, I could see the longing in her eyes. Initially, she seemed reticent to share this with a stranger, but I promised I would be happy to listen; I realized I greatly needed the companionship at the time, so it was only fair to listen intently. After some time, she told me that when she was young, a great disaster befell her homeland. How she remembers praying to any God that would listen through grief, lamentation, and prayer. How she remembers her mother singing to her and her brother, trying to help ease their fears however she could. But to her, she could never make out the song – something I could tell still bothers her to this day – and soon her mother vanished into the Memory Zone, never to be seen again.
Despite all of this, or perhaps in spite of all of it, she still had a smile on her face. Even as she recounted something that would cause me to break down in tears if it happened to me, she was still smiling. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that.
She turned the conversation onto me, but I’m not really an interesting sort. It pittered out pretty quick, and I asked her what she does in the Land of Dreams; is she here to chase the sweet dream like I was? That smile still remained on her face, as she simply said: “I sing.”
I thought a lot about that as I heard her song – I think it was Hope Is the Thing With Feathers – ring out throughout Penacony. How I saw her dive after a figure without hesitation.
No matter what any tabloid rumor says, I will always think of that Robin - the one that helped break us free from the false dream, who chased after someone she clearly cares about without so much as a beat of hesitation.
powers / abilities:
singing: robin has both practiced the art of singing as well as studied the science of it all; she is a powerful singer who can connect the hearts of many. however, when the Harmony is in disarray, she often struggles to sing.
inherent abilities:
resonance: robin has the ability to broadcast her song to any lifeform, fan or not, through the power of Harmony.
singing: while robin’s singing is affected by the Harmony, she’s still a talented singer regardless.
items / weapons: N/A
starting ability: singing!
starting item: N/A
would you like this character to be housed upon arrival?: yes
extra:
she’s a lesbian your honor
her character onion goes Nuts it’s unreal

Hello! How are you? I would like to ask for a free reading on how A.E is feeling about me.
"Decision 3012"
Season 9 / Episode 3 (16:47)
Numerology: 3
Creative, outgoing, charming. Hypercritical , jealous, worried.
Quote:
So, I become ruler of Earth?
Indeed.
Yes! In your face, high school guidance counselor.
Interpretation:
AE feels like you're a winning bet after a lifetime of trauma. They feel you have what it takes to go all the way. You've got charm, wit, and a creative soul. You do need to stop listening to your inner critic, and go a little easier on the people around you. Set appropriate expectations and stop holding everyone, including yourself, to impossible standards. You can have what you want if you stop worrying all the time and take it as it comes.

LOL, I'm glad you understand the pain of the Kousuke train.
I relate to your experience on a spiritual level. And like you, it's because I know he can be better—do better.
There is indeed a sense of relief after getting to know what drove him and his fears. I felt like before we had to fight so many who thought that any criticism of him (not of the writing, just a natural frustration with him as character) was unwarranted ("You just hate him because he stands in the way of your ship!") or at times even "ableist" [to those who read Kousuke as having ASD.]
Now I just rest easy in 212 and feel good to look forward to what his future holds. I still have hope for him. More than ever before actually.
But yes, I'm going to ramble about Yui and Rand. Their relationship is so fascinating to me as a reader. There is so much that we don’t know despite the glimpses we’ve had into their family dynamic, particularly as it relates to their parenting styles and how each wanted to raise Kousuke. I suspect that this was the beginning of their marriage deteriorating, assuming it was ever whole to begin with.
For me, it’s clear Yui has something over Rand. Or rather she has the power to take away the things that he values—power and money being very obvious ones, but clearly Nol is another now.
"And you only have yourself to blame." ^ Imaginary quote Yui threw at him once in my brain lol.
Nol might be one of Rand’s greatest weaknesses which would explain why he’s tried so hard to downplay Nol’s significance (and I think he is also a reminder of everything Rand chose not to be, but I’ll get to that soon enough) and any affection he might feel for him.
When he’s trying to help Nol with his assault/drug charges, being far more active than he's been in awhile, Yui comments on it.
Rand claims his efforts aren’t out of sentimentality but that he's doing proper damage control to preserve their name and image.
Yui doesn’t believe him, of course.
Rand (just as she says) is someone who cares though he doesn’t show it. And he doesn’t show it because we see how Yui operates; she takes things people value and turns it as a weapon against them. Yui used Shin Ae’s loyalty and sense of integrity to manipulate her and get her to do exactly what she wanted. She’s used Nol’s kindness and charity—his desire to atone by making other people’s lives easier by letting them use him—as a way to take people from him, winning them to her side. She took Alyssa and I’m sure she’s aware Kousuke has Soushi. She taught him well, after all.
When Shin Ae defends Nol in their confrontation about her contract, it irks Yui. I don’t think she wanted Shin Ae to form an attachment to Nol, but will nonetheless use her because Shin Ae has become a valuable pawn that has power to influence both Kousuke and Nol.
Build one up, bring the other down.
Going back to Rand and their marriage arrangement... we have no idea if there was a more personal contract or particular clauses in the mukoyoshi arrangement .
Things that would leave Rand in a very disadvantageous position should something happen to their brand by his fault. Of course, the nature of mukoyoshi could also benefit Rand in ways that may displease Yui, particularly now that Rand has another son.
From what other readers have posted regarding the rules of this kind of arrangement, when the Hirahara's “adopted” Rand, they made him equivalent to a blood relative.
He is “their son” and his progeny has weight in the hierarchy of the heir stuff regardless of whether he has them with Yui or not. This may explain why she wanted more children; more heirs, more possibilities and not putting all her eggs in Kousuke’s basket.
According to these readers, Nol could become the rightful heir if a) Kousuke turns out not to be Rand’s biological son, b) Kousuke becomes unfit to lead due to health/mental incapacity.
I am not sure how accurate this information is, but it was discussed some time ago to explain why it was detrimental for Yui for Nol to even exist and why she would push the narrative that Nol is violent, mentally unstable from so early—almost as if to safeguard Kousuke’s position by making Nol seemingly unfit to lead if Kousuke couldn’t take the position.
As you said, a lot of readers downplay Yui actions.
They also dismiss her whole character as someone who is doing all of this just because her husband cheated and she was “saddled” with the mistress’ kid.
It’s such a huge disservice to her character and antagonistic role, and even Quimchee’s writing.
She likes taking tropes (the evil stepmother) and turning them on their head. Yui is so much more than a scorned woman lashing out and taking revenge on an unfaithful husband.
Sure, an affair could have bothered her.
Maybe not because she loved Rand, but just out of principle and ego. How dare you, a commoner I have allowed into my family, betray me publicly? But I don't think Nol's existence bothers her because he's the love child of her husband; it's because he's a threat to everything she's worked so hard to take back.
Yui is so much more than the fandom believes her to be.
Who she is was there before the affair was an issue; we see it in how she treats Kousuke and how she shaped him before that.
There is also this misconception that just because someone is a parent, they must love their child. That even if they do hurtful things, it’s out of twisted love. I’m sorry, but no.
There are parents who feel nothing for their children.
I cannot imagine loving my child (and I’m not a parent, mind you) and doing what she did to Kousuke. To see my poor child in distress after meeting Nol/Nessa and feel amused?
And we know she did it on purpose. She took Kousuke to the park that day on purpose—to begin working her manipulation against these two who threatened her plans.
Kousuke was still a child. He was not ready to take over the business. If Rand left with his other family, how could she push him to be this man he had always idolized?
No, she couldn't let Rand leave.
But seriously, what kind of "loving mother" tells her little boy that he needs to earn love? That he has to work for it? That he cannot just be loved? That he has to be this type of person to be worthy of love?
It's horrible!
We don't know how Yui grew up, I'll give her that.
That’s a huge mystery that would explain a lot of who she is and why she operates as she does, but it is still criminal what she’s done to Kousuke. Not to mention what she's done to Nol.
And yes, even Nol's perception of reality is skewed, as you said.
How does Rand get out of this? I do think he will have to fall and lose it all—lose everything he held onto for so long—for things to break.
I don't know if Yui counts with that possibility or if she's so certain he wouldn't want to lose his privileges. We also don't know if his counter attack would even work. And why now?
Like you said, it could be age. Maybe he's realized it's not worth it, especially now that one of his sons almost killed the other?
I really want to know what Rand was so afraid of losing.
According to Quim, Rand came from nothing. He was poor, but look at him now. Did he get to a moderate place without Yui? Did he take a lot of risks that ended in losses he couldn't recuperate from?
How did he even meet Yui?
Did he start a business that failed and Yui came along to offer him salvation in exchange for what she needed? Was he working at her family's firm, perhaps even for her father, and she decided this was the perfect nobody to puppeteer through?
Was marriage forced on her?
She said she chose him, but that could be a lie she’s used to not admit to him someone else had power over her.
To Rand, she might have been an alluring way to the top—an opportunity he would have been too stupid to pass up.
This might explain his obsession with image and also propriety; seeing Nol eating on the floor at the Formal might have triggered memories of hardships in his life that he’s worked too hard to overcome and erase.
(As Nol said, he feels Rand treats him like an unsightly stain on pure white fabric... is that partially why? Or was it all pretense?)
Did Yui ever like Rand as a person or a man?
I don’t mean love necessarily but more like attraction and feeling he was her thing, her pawn and toy? Or did she hate him from the start and resents everything about his existence down to how her family would rather bring in a commoner than break patriarchal traditions and let her run the show?
Her obsession with controlling everything could very well stem from the fact that she hasn’t been able to be who she wants to be. If she wanted to lead the entire family business but was forced to do it through a man, her playing these games might be her way of coping.
A bad coping mechanism (and Kousuke mentioned she gets out of hand when she drinks which makes you wonder if she had a drinking problem before—alcohol seems to be an issue with many of these characters, whether in favor or aversion of it) for sure.
I mean, she wears wigs to hide the short hair she prefers having in the privacy of her home where she can be herself and drop her mask. Who knows if she even likes her feminine outfits or would prefer business suits if she didn’t need to conform to her very gendered role. There is so much to dissect about her.
We know everything she does is self-serving but it’s always fascinated me that she tries to raise women, albeit in convoluted ways, and still mostly for her benefit. It’s like she’s trying to change the playing field.
At the same time, she seems to have disdain for certain types of women, as hinted by how she refers to Sang Chul’s mother, but she’s still obsessed with playing with women. The way she treats them vs the men in her life is also quite interesting.
She uses the men far more callously.
There is, even if only a little bit, a hint of softness when she’s manipulating the girls.
Almost maternal, almost caring, but so twisted in the end.
[Her smile when Shin Ae said she didn’t have a mother—sharpening her claws to dig into a vulnerable young woman who might long to have that maternal figure in her life. She always seems to go for girls that have some exploitable weakness.]
I do think Yui is feeling the heat...
She's been pissed at Nol's moves lately.
Despite all she’s done to break him down, he still shows more promise than her own son whom she’s crippled in many ways.
I think she realizes how badly her plan backfired with Kousuke and she’s now trying to bring people into his life to balance him out, but that she can control, as to know when to loosen and squeeze. This may be why she’s wanted Shin Ae at his side so badly.
If we assume that “producing heirs” tidbit wasn’t a joke, Shin Ae has the potential to be helpful to Kousuke in her eyes perhaps, but has no real credentials that would take control/resources/power away from the Hirahara’s. There would be no conflict of interest and she can build her up to make a name for herself; an heir with her would mean that power remains with the Hirahara’s for another generation and not divided with some other powerful family.
When Rand tells Shin Ae that Yui won’t let her go, it’s very serious. And Rand knows this from personal experience.
Nol isn’t wrong to fear what Yui would do to Shin Ae (or his friends) because he’s seen it happen before and knows her well enough to understand how perverse she truly is.
This isn’t just a “blackmail you to attend a party with my son” level of crazy—Yui is in a whole other ball game that is criminal.
I mean, she went to Japan and suddenly the CFO had a health crisis that forced him to step down? How convenient.
It’s as if she’s accelerating her plans before someone gets in her way; she's getting a little messy, I think. Because Kousuke clearly wasn't remotely ready to handle that charge.
[Which might be why she wants Shin Ae to stay—to see if she can keep Kousuke remotely grounded...]
I do think the boy's past has two stories happening.
One is the incident between Kousuke and Nol, but I do think Nessa's death is independent, yet tied to Nol.
It's pretty obvious he blames himself for something big. Maybe he feels responsible for whatever led to his mother's tragic end. It's hard not to get that impression given all he's said and the little he's shown us. That's something pretty serious—a very heavy burden.
There is speculation that Nol had a period of resentment toward Nessa because he was unhappy in Korea and maybe blamed her for the situation they were in as sometimes kids do.
Maybe he got teased at school for being a foreigner (we know he uses concealer to hide his freckles since it was leaking from his face when he rescued Shin Ae at the pool) or maybe the kids knew about his status as an illegitimate child and spoke badly of his mother—on top of the run-ins with Kousuke being hateful, of course.
Perhaps Nol did get into fights, as a child might who is pushed to their limits (and we saw the same with Shin Ae; she was just defending herself, but she got the bully label instead.) Maybe he defended himself and his mother from slander.
Nol could have tried running away (something Kousuke says he always does) and Nessa got hurt trying to find him.
The lines:
"Poor kid... no one is going to want him..." "Why not?" "Apparently he sent someone's son to the hospital."
I have a feeling this wasn't about Kousuke. I think this was an event that happened prior to that, but would aid the claims that he is very unstable later to warrant putting him in a mental health facility.
Kousuke says they weren't officially introduced until after his time at the mental health facility, yet Nol was taken away to that facility from their mansion.
[And we know they met prior multiple times, but not officially...]
At the same time, Nol claims they never lived in the same house, but that doesn’t mean the mansion didn’t have a separate guest house where they kept him after Nessa’s passing.
Technically, it’s not the same roof, but still close enough to have whatever happened that day occur and send him away.
Then he came out and returned to them, which is when he met Alyssa, and again—Yui was close enough to wherever he was living when she came over to visit him that she had access to her in order to absorb her into her bs.
The timeline is a bit blurry to me, but I think someone posted it in a concise manner; I'd have to look it up.
I guess it'll be uncovered in S2.
We're heading there pretty soon.
I do hope Nol finally accepts that "some mistakes are worth it."
I hope that what Nana, his friends, and Shin Ae have said reach him, but I do think it might ultimately be his mother who breaks through completely through those letters.
Most importantly, those letters might help him forgive himself for whatever he feels responsible for.
Rand might have felt the same guilt (for different reasons) during the time Nessa wrote to comfort him.
The message would reach Nol since both of them punish themselves, hide their true feelings, lie about what's in their hearts, etc. Rand was going through it and now Nol is going through it.
Nessa trying to comfort Rand, to inspire him to do the right thing, to keep fighting, to not blame or punish himself might be precisely the words Nol needs to get out of this horrible prison he’s put himself in.
And it might also be what helps him break the pattern set by his parents—which a Nol / Alyssa / Shin Ae situation would parallel.
Rand ultimately didn't choose Nessa.
Nol knows the price of that choice.
Yeah, maybe Rand "couldn't" but maybe he also didn't want to let go of the things he needed to in order to have that relationship either.
Perhaps Nol will face a similar choice.
We have seen that Nol has made different choices to Rand already.
An important example was the formal. Had Nol obeyed and stayed put, he wouldn't be in the predicament he's in, but it would have cost the safety of someone he cared about.
That is the price Rand paid for his choices.
He’s lost the people he loves.
He’s failed them all.
Nessa, Kousuke, and Nol.
And who knows how many others along the way.
I hope Nol breaks the cycle. I hope they all do.
Edit: After posting this I was reading back for an unrelated bit and found this tidbit which reminds me that Kousuke has also been part of the “you’re dangerous and cause others to get hurt” narrative Nol has for himself.
ILY FP 219 (or, The One That Went to the Top of My Favorites List)
Hehehe is that an enticing enough, non-spoiler preview for you? lol I want so badly to tell everyone WHY they should be sure to FP this episode, but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. Not that I think knowing what’s in there will ruin it, but I think the impact of going into it without knowing is just SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL. It’s BEAUTIFUL okay? That’s why you should read it - it’s beautiful!

Guys. Not saying Tuon isn’t problematic, but honestly? I think she’s gonna be fine, post-series. I think a LOT of things are going to change for the Seanchan. Tuon seems to be taking two steps forward and one step back. She’s fighting like blazes to keep her worldview from being completely shattered. Yeah, it needs to be shattered, but that’s a hard bit of growing. Necessary, but hard, and I can sympathize with her struggle. She’s been trained to believe bad things, but she doesn’t, I think, have a bad nature.
Three quotes that I think are important:
“She’s Aes Sedai, Mat told himself. Oh she can’t channel-she hasn’t let herself learn yet. She’s bloody one of them anyway. And I married her.”
“‘The...Aes Sedai...may not like this,’ General Galgan said. He too hesitated upon using the term Aes Sedai. They had started using the term...by Mat’s order, one that he’d expected Tuon to rescind. She had not.”
“’I suppose you give me the opportunity...perhaps the mandate...to follow where my heart would choose...”
Okay, so the first quote. Yeah, that’s only Mat’s pov, but I think the inclusion of yet is important. Because, that isn’t wishful thinking on Mat’s part. He hates being around the One Power. He’d be a lot more comfortable, if Tuon couldn’t channel. But, she does and he’s gotten to know her. He knows it’s a matter of time.
And that second quote really does validate his faith in her. She’s not insisting that the Aes Sedai are “marath’damane.” She’s acknowledging, if not accepting, their term for themselves and, with it, their world view. In an indirect way, yes, but that’s still significant.
She’s learning slowly, but steadily. I mean, the whole thing with Egwene! Mercy, mercy I LOVED the near cat fight they had. I love Tuon’s shock at learning that Egwene was once held as a damane. Tuon doesn’t wear her heart on her sleeve, but I think this moment rocked her more than it seems. I think, once the pressure of the Last Battle is past, she’s going to be doing some heavy reflecting.
How can you consider people who can channel dangerous animals, after Egwene’s noble and epic death? What sort of “omen” will Tuon consider that? I was sad to see Egwene die, but turned into crystal? She’s going to be the stuff of legends and that’s not something Tuon is stupid enough to just brush aside!
Also, does anyone else think Tuon is just not the type to turn down a challenge? She’s not easily manipulated, but can Tuon turn down being directly dared to do something? I can’t see that. Egwene dared her to put on a collar and I think that would have happened, if the later books had been written.
And that last quote! Man, that was such a beautiful moment. Tuon is torn between doing what is right for her nation, for the world, and her love and trust in Mat. After all, if she goes back, and they lose, there’s no more chances. But, she wants to go back and stand with Mat. No matter what she says later, no matter how she tries to bury her attachment to him, she really proves here that she does love him, even though her head and her training warn her against it. And she is just so relieved, and scared, that Min gives her an excuse to choose Mat.
And, last but not least, MIN. I love Min. Min, the girl who calls the Dragon Reborn a sheep-herder. A girl who wears pants and shrugs off social mores that don’t suit her. She’s Tuon’s Truthspeaker. She’s allowed to openly criticize and argue with Tuon. It’s a shame those later books weren’t written, because I imagine Min would have some saucy things to say about a’dams and dacovale and a ton of other things. I really think she’ll bring Tuon down to earth a bit. Honestly, she and Mat are the best things that could have happened to Tuon.

A collection of quotes from Chapter 27 that made me feel things (mostly rage):
"You are rudderless"
YOU ALL CAN PRY SIUAN'S FISH PUNS FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS. The fact she says them so straight faced is what gets me. I unironically love them so much. Anyway,
"Siuan told herself that she did not envy these women their ability to channel - she was past that, surely"
😢
"You might be fooling each other, and maybe even the Gaidin - though I'd not count on that, were I you - but you can't fool me"
YES! RIP INTO THEM! SIUAN MY QUEEN
""Do you agree with Siuan, Leane?" Anaiya asked mildly. Siuan had never been able to understand why Moiraine liked the woman."
I am frothing at the mouth. The way Siuan and Leane are treated like children now because they can't channel. AS IF THEY WEREN'T THE TWO MOST POWERFUL WOMEN IN THE WORLD LIKE TWO WEEKS AGO
""You do not seem to understand that you are not Amyrlin and Keeper any longer. You are not even Aes Sedai." Some had the grace to look embarrassed."
You could like idk, still treat them with respect tho? Just a thought? Instead of belittling them every chance you get?
"While what was done to you followed the letter of the law narrowly," Sheriam said gently, "we agree that it was malignantly unjust, an extreme distortion of the law's spirit." ... "Whatever rumor might say, most of the charges laid against you were so thin that they should have been laughed away."
"Not the charge that she knew of Rand al'Thor and conspired to hide him from the Tower," Carlinya broke in sharply.
Sheriam nodded. "But be that as it may, even that was not sufficient for the penalty given. Nor should you have been tried in secret, without even a chance to defend yourself. Never fear that we will turn our backs on you."
Okay but like you guys did turn your back on them? "We won't turn our backs on you." THEN STOP TREATING THEM LIKE BABIES!!!!! I realize that to have supported Siuan during the coup meant violent death at the hands of Elaida but like you guys could have at least like tried a little to make it seem like you liked Siuan...
""I headed the Blue Ajah's net of eyesandears, before I was raised Amyrlin." More surprise. "With a little effort every Blue agent, and those who served me as Amyrlin too, can be sending her reports to you, by routes that keep her ignorant of their final destination." It would take considerably more than a little work, but she had already sketched most of it out in her head, and there was no need for them to know more at the moment."
YES SHOW THEM! It'll be everyone else's downfall, underestimating Siuan.
It should not be difficult," Leane said diffidently, "to put myself in touch with those who were my eyes and ears before I was Keeper. More importantly, as Keeper of the Chronicles I had agents in Tar Valon itself." Startlement widened a few eyes.
Okay but actually how incompetent is everyone that having spies in Tar Valon is surprising?!?!?!
""Siuan." Leaning forward in her thick-armed chair, Morvrin said the name firmly, as though to emphasize that she had not said Mother."
THIS LINE!!!! THIS!!! THIS MAKES ME GO FERAL! I AM SEEING RED! I AM SEETHING! I AM LIVID!!! THEY WAY SHES RUBBING IT IN!!!!!
"Why should we allow you to do as you want? You have been stilled, woman. Whatever you were, you are no longer Aes Sedai. If we want these agents' names, you will both give them to us."
THE WAY THEY ALL SEE NON-AES SEDAI AS LESSER! Guys your prejudice is showing~~~
"Siuan watched them mull it over in silence. They never considered the possibility that she was lying."
Okay but Siuan just straight up lying to their faces is so funny. She can do that now! This chapter has really just been 30 pages of showing how incompetent the White Tower is as an organization.
Anaiya nodded. "We understand your reasons for disliking Elaida, even hating her. We do understand, but we must think of the Tower, and the world. I confess I do not like Elaida myself. But then, I have never liked Siuan, either. It is not necessary to like the Amyrlin Seat.
Not the way the other Aes Sedai are apologizing for Elaida and diminishing literally everything she did to Siuan and Leane 😭😭😭
I do feel really awful for Leane in all of this. Throughout it all Leane was kept in the dark of most of the plan of looking for the Dragon Reborn and yet she was stilled along with Siuan just for being her coworker. Like Elaida has had it out for Siuan and Moiraine since they were novices! But Leane has never (explicitly) done anything against Elaida to warrant anything like that...
"I will try to give good service." Myrelle did not have to nod in such a satisfied way. Siuan ignored a small voice that said she would have done as much or more in Myrelle's place.
ah
"It will mean that the Tower truly is broken," the greeneyed woman said sadly.
"It already is broken," Siuan told her tartly
The way the Aes Sedai don't want to or aren't really willing to make any move against Elaida and are just so passive makes me so angry. They just want everything to go away! And for everything to fix itself!
She would rather wade naked through a school of silverpike than have these women realize that she was trying to manipulate them.
DAES DAE'MAR QUEEN!!! The way Siuan has changed so much from being a simple fishermans daughter...
She and Moiraine had worked too long to find Rand al'Thor and prepare him, given too much of their lives, for her to risk the rest of it being bungled by someone else.
Siuan is going to keep going because she knows that's what moiriane would do and God they are both such echos of each other I just I can't. Not moiraine having that exact same thought a couple chapters ago. Where she couldn't give up cause she knew siuan wouldn't given up even when she thinks Siuan is dead 😭😭😭
Kiruna and Bera would surely be willing to carry a letter to Moiraine, and they had seven Warders between them to keep the Aiel from killing them.
She needs to send a letter to let her know she's still alive and still able to continue the mission!!!! And you know stay in touch and figure out what their next steps should be. I guess the one convenient thing about Siuan having been stilled is that she can now be significantly more open about the fact she is working with Moiraine. It'll be easier to get letters to her now without needing to hide the fact she's sending letters at all.
"We do not want to tire you and Leane," Sheriam went oh. "I will ask one of the Yellow sisters to look at both of you. Perhaps she can do something to help, to ease you in some way. I will have rooms found for you, where you can rest."
What are they now? Invalids?
Strange to think that she and Elaida had worked together then, bringing Morgase to heel.
Crazy to think that they actually had one positive interaction in this series.
