im wayyyyy overdue for a Full Re-Playthrough of ALL of ToT Main Story. partly because i adore main story so much and itd be super fun to play it all again in one go, but ALSO because i have a question:

what...is the timeline of the events in main story? like...how much time has Passed In The Story?

if im remembering correctly, there are some episodes are implied to have DAYS or even mere HOURS between them. meanwhile other episodes have a more unidentified duration of time between them, somewhere up to weeks or a month.

im curious because like, with the romance routes, time passes at the same pace as it passes for us. but main story is different. it's like

tot romance routes: a handful of years have passed mostly peacefully with lighthearted shenanigans here and there

tot main story route: The Most Stressful and Traumatizing 6 Months (???) You Have Ever Fucking Seen

Judging from these panels, would it mean that there's no other yorishima exorcist that's still alive (since natori said that the yorishima family "was once" a big name, past tense) in the canon timeline, and that the yorishima we know probably ended his family's exorcism business for good by retiring himself? If so, was the reason tied to the youkai living in his left arm, or is there another cause? And when exactly did he retire— was it before or during seiji and shuuichi's high school days, which was why his left arm appeared with the thick bandages when he gave them the loquats in the anime, but he still lived in the estate during that time, or was it after the two became legal adults, which lined up somewhat with him moving into his forest home, abandoning his family estate in favor of living in isolation?

And, speaking of retirement, I wonder if we'll ever know why midorikawa told us that the takis were "famous" (which presumedly meant they were strong enough to be well-known) as occult diviners, since tooru herself only ever mentioned what their previous family business entails, and never about their status in the exorcism community? We don't really need this extra bit if she wanted to further establish how tooru has an aptitude for spell-casting, either. Again, there's another "strong" family (whose members are still alive in canon) that went into retirement, but did the taki family lost their power because the ability to see (if they were needed for diviners) disappeared for at least the last three generations (if we assumed that tooru and isamu's parents couldn't see youkai too), or was it due to another reason? How close was shinichiro (tooru and isamu's grandpa) to the matobas that even the current clan head came to pay his respects during his sixth death anniversary; was his relationship with seiji's father strictly resolved around exorcism business, or was anything else involved? Does tooru herself doesn't fully understand the prowess her family once had, hence why seiji was the one who told takashi (and us readers) about it? What would this tiny bit of lore mean for tooru with it revealed this late into the manga, when tooru herself only talked sparsely about her ancestors in previous chapters?

There is a very serious problem with treating such patients. When such a patient was first cured, everything was fine, except for the fact that here and there he had small traces of the transformation. But it did not last long. Soon his behavior began to change for the worse, he began to WANT to go back, he had obsessive thoughts that he would feel better if he ate human flesh.

As a result, their further existence (you can't call it life) turned into psychological and physical torture, where they achieved their goal and again became a monster or, having broken down, left life voluntarily. And so it was over and over again: watching how you or your loved one suffers more and more from every minute of existence was unbearable - death was just a matter of time. Therefore, the ninja began to eliminate them immediately, so that they would not suffer and harm others. The first one tries to find a cure, but still to no avail, the only thing that slowed down the transformation was constant direct contact with the mask. And even then, a person won't be able to wear it for long for the same reasons as in cannon.

As for Randy, I can't say yet, but he is trying to solve this problem.

One final note, and then I promise I will go and do all the things I have to do today, but......I tend to side with the people who say that "being human" (with all its complexities, impulses, and shades of ineffable feeling) hasn't fundamentally changed in the last few millennia. The material conditions and basic, expected knowledge base absolutely have! I think it would be difficult to have a conversation, should I happen to bump into a woman from Neolithic Byblos at a party; I just don't think she's as truly alien to me as language/culture/history might make her seem.

Still, though....I do sort of envy people in the past sometimes. I think it's how much more laborious everything was, how much more time-consuming the daily routine would be. If I didn't live in the modern era, I wonder if I would have less time to---well, worry about living in the modern era.
