I got the shirt!! I love everything about it except for the fact that I had to cut a lot of it (length etc)…unisex is a hit or miss. This model was also meant to be “oversized” but it’s quite fitted…so it requires good posture if I want to avoid these squished “spojk” faces 😭

I’m excited to wash it because it supposedly becomes clearer in colour after the first wash! 🤩

I have wanted to get one of those ugly vintage bootleg shirts that are trending for a while now. Specifically one with Spock so I went on Threadheads and customised one and im genuinely so EXCITED? 😭

But I dont know if I can pull it off... Does anyone have any advice on wearing merch in public? I kind of get embarrassed by my own interests if that makes sense lol

My comic is so pretty...

The hiatus is letting me take a little extra time on these episodes, and I'm definitely putting it to good use!!!

#almost done with my 8th episode... which will give me. two weeks. of buffer...#id really like at LEAST a month... but to be more comfortable id like two #which means 2-6 more episodes before I come back!#I've got about 7 weeks so its possible. but i do still have to finish book 4 #so much to do ..........#I decided for my next comic im doing 3 updates a month.#having 10 days instead of 7 to make an episode is such a huge huge huge difference...#difference in quality and in my health!#anyways the comic is really pretty im really happy with the work im doing rn #the environments especially. im getting to spend a nice amount of time on them and theyre turning out so nicely #its nice to be able to write with a lot of different environments and not have to redo panels when I get to them cause of time #cause every time theres a wild angle? you need a new background...#so sometimes. often actually. there just isnt the time to make the backgrounds for those and i have to make them more flat...#which is fine. it doesnt really affect anything narratively. but. idk. it's kinda sad right?#anyways yeah! 10 days will be much better.#36 episodes a year is about what ive been uploading with my hiatuses on the weekly schedule anyways!#so might as well cut out that super stressful middleman and just commit to that #52 a year is just such a huge difference and i have to accept its not possible to me #i will hurt myself trying to do that. and i want to make comics my whole life!#so i cant push myself that hard now and sacrifice my future. we're gonna go slower after this...#anyways yeah cant wait to come back but also time. if I could get an extra week like a secret one just for me #where theres no chores no nothin just me and my work #thatd be great! so go ahead and do what you gotta do to give me a little pocket dimension #me: ugh i want to return right now...#the more logical me: NO we need the time to finish everything!!!!!! tbh my latest biggest theory for why HoO and onwards is such a dramatic drop in quality and consistency is just. Rick stopped making teaching guides.

Like, the Lightning Thief teacher's guide is SUPER in-depth with even stuff like sources about middle grade child psychology and exact specifications of where he's applying that, explaining what different character's goals/motivations are, their dynamics with each other and their environments, etc etc. Even specifying which specific myths certain plot elements are supposed to reference or be about.

That stuff just doesn't exist for later books. There's activity guides and smaller, significantly more simple teacher guides for later books but they don't go into anywhere NEAR the same level of depth. The TLT one is a full lesson plan that breaks down the book at every level and explains what's going on and more or less why Rick did that. The others are all basically just glossaries of terminology and some simple question guides.

And they didn't even use the TLT teacher's guide for the Disney+ show because they clearly aren't adhering to any of what's discussed in that breakdown of the book.

By creating a teaching guide alongside writing the actual book, that's forcing you to document what you're doing, why, your sources, and information about your characters and the story they're in. It's like an even more in-depth version of a series bible. But that's lacking for later books (and etc) and it shows because that level of thought and depth and attention just isn't there anymore.

#pjo #riordanverse #rick riordan #rr crit #< i suppose #imo one of the most damning parts of the drop of quality in the later books is you can tell exactly what parts of what books #Rick had planned in advance and which are just filler to get from point a to point b #because characters will jump in and out of consistent behaviors - particularly in HoO - and those lapses where they act weird #are almost always super disconnected from the rest of the plot or storyline or whatever arc that character is on #or are just so clearly sped through because they aren't important #Leo is a great character imo to look at to figure out if it's a filler scene or not lmao #if he's clearly masking being somber by putting on a silly act but dropping it quickly or otherwise largely acting serious/somber #then it's probably a more considered scene and actually paying attention to his overall character arc #or just remembering how the characters are supposed to act (in Leo's case - quiet/thoughtful/somber but masking it with humor/etc)#if he's 100% silly goofy depression arc nowhere in sight then its probably mostly a filler scene or at least his part in it is filler #anyways i highly recommend reading the tlt teaching guide its really interesting actually

Honestly, the biggest downfall in the writing of Hotd is that the writers seem barely aware of the actual politics behind the Dance other than the misogyny.

And even that they only touch on in the most surface level way completely divorced from the context of the actual feudal system it exists in.

Musical Touken Ranbu: Michinooku ~ Hitotsu Hachisu (Michinooku ~ A Single Lotus)

Here we go! Only a few days after the archive release and toumyu's ninth anniversary (congratulations!)

Michioku, or Michihasu, is a myu I have many conflicting feelings about, both positive and negative. However, I do believe that with the right amount of care in the next Mika-related story myu, the negative can still be cleared. Plus, I'm glad about a lot of things being re-established. The writer does need to step up her game a little on the plot-writing side of things, as well as the understanding-and-respecting-past-myu side of things, but as long as she does, this can still be given a proper place within what was already established.

Keep in mind that these are only the subtitle files, timed and tled to the DMM senshuuraku and the bluray respectively. The archive version will have a talk at the start, so the starting times of the subs will have to be delayed accordingly.

#touken ranbu #toumyu #water's translations #michioku #michihasu #how do I put this #seeing as myu's director Kayano has said in an interview right before Michioku that Kogi and Mika have a special bond #different from other swords-- and then they try to speedrun *Tsuru* and Mika having a what feels like it was intended to be #even greater relationship using a song called Kage Futatsu where KOGI'S signature song from Utaawase was Futatsu no Kage???#I SINCERELY want to believe it's incompetence rather than the writer deliberately pulling the rug from under Kogi's feet #bc the alternative is just cruel #I don't particularly mind the relationship Mika and Tsuru have in this play but I feel that not for a moment Kogi and kara respectively #were considered in the writing #anyway my final verdict is that this myu is what too many people think tsuwa is: the divorce myu (between Mika and Tsuru this time)#in all cases I hope myu can bring Shirakawa Yuki in again like with Datemyu just to offload myu's already deathly busy writer (she's done #5 myus in a month before which is just insane) because I feel this just isn't sustainable with the amount of carefulness a long-running #franchise like myu demands and the *writing* quality (not the production quality AT ALL Michioku's is great) is suffering for it.#like sure Michioku is loaded with references but they're references that either don't serve *Michioku's own* plot or their treatment shows #a lack of understanding of the work it's referencing-- for example Kashuu calling upon atsu's “This is how the shinsengumi fights!” actuall #goes completely contrary to the lesson he's supposed to have learned from atsuibun: that swords aren't disposable and that he has duties as #both soldier (captain in atsu) and as COMRADE and he makes the (already highlighted in Michioku!) dumb decision of butting in without #thinking-- and with that framed against manba's breaking trauma as well! He's supposed to have learned to stay rational and consider both #duties yet here he is ---BECAUSE of the reference--- completely leaning on the pre-atsu-development side of the scale #as if Ishi's words went one ear in one ear out. And yes the scene by itself could've worked as a subversion to show Kashuu makes the #'irrational' decision against what Ishi taught him to consider precisely because he cares for the people he's protecting but there is NO #groundwork laid at all for that in the rest of Michioku! This is what I mean with the carelessness of the references and the lack of #consideration for what prior myus were trying to SAY and ACHIEVE which is insane because she was the lyricist for those #it's more a collage of feelings provided through a set of characters calling back to the scripts of prior myu rather than #a story that evokes feelings bc the humans in it walk forward and act upon-- interact with-- the scenery on the road as left by prior human

i wanted to see what a piece would look like if i finished it in my three main mediums, pencil, ink, and watercolor (+colored pencils) >:*)

SO. i did these in the order theyre presented #which means that the pencil was done first #and by the time i got to the watercolor id drawn this same picture quite a few times #so if the quality seems to improve thats more than likely a matter of repetition and the benefit of past foresight or whatever #like yamatos shin is too small in the first picture.#and i noticeably lengthened it in following pictures. i also shortened kakashis thigh a little bit #yamatos torso looks really long but thats partially because he's slid back a little bit—his flack jacket is up high and you can see #it gapping at his shoulder #but ultimately that doesnt make the anatomical weirdness completely forgiveable so if i drew this again id do it differently probably #THAT SAID IM STILL SOOOO HAPPY WITH HOW THESE TURNED OUT #drawing the same picture over and over and over again? kind of great actually. i recommend it.#if you want to try doing this and you dont have a lightbox (u dont rlly need one) just like. take one drawing you like #and a blank sheet of paper #and tape it to a window thats getting a LOT of light #and then trace ur old drawing's bare bones (the forms. u know)#and then once you have that down. draw on top of it. or use new materials #it allows you to preserve ur previous drawing also which is great #once i was doing a commission and i realized i got the room i was drawing the characters in backwards #so i just. turned the paper around. put it against the morning window. and traced the now-mirrored image onto a new sheet of paper.#saved SO MUCH TIME LMFAO #the paper on the last picture is different and more yellow in tone so thats why the color is weird there ajxjskhfjahx #anyway happy testostone tuesday to all who celebrate 💚 love you
