Ok just to be parasocial for a second. Going into this episode of the podcast I knewww. I knewww that Dan Howell was going to be EXACTLY the right person for Tommy to talk to right now in his life. Because like. Goddd just. Tommy’s depressed. He’s in his 20’s. He’s been through shit. Him and Dan have similar humor and similar vibes, they both enjoy a sort of ironic style of being intentionally awkward in a comedic way. They both have done standup. And Tommy’s been so bitter about the YouTube culture and the YouTube space for a while, and a lot of people have sort of echoed that bitterness, but Dan and Phil absolutely give a very different perspective which is like. Doing your own thing. Ignoring the larger culture. Doing what makes you happy, finding your audience, and cultivating that audience. And this episode has absolutely confirmed ALL my suspicions, because Tommy latched onto every word that was said! The things that Dan and Phil (but I would say especially Dan) were saying were absolutely things I think were so GOOD for him to hear. And just. RAAAAAGHHH. I really hope that we can see more of this dynamic in the future because I found it so refreshing and so beneficial. Dan and Phil have truly been through it all, and yet they have landed in such a place of happiness and contentment! They’re happy, and they’re doing what they love, and they know what it’s like to be unhappy but they’re here to be like. Hey! We’ve been there, and it’s okay! It’s not all over! Like whateverrr man. WHATEVER. I just found it to be really really sweet.
