this is why i never read voltron fanfic 💀

#i decided to finally dip my toes back in the water and pulled up ao3. opened up what I thought would be a #nice pre-canon shiro & keith fic. only to find out partway through that shiro and keith start dating in the sequel.#this is not to drag up old shipping drama i normally just filter this ship out but in this fic it’s like #keith is twelve years old and shiro is the one trustworthy adult in his life and it’s cute. and then i hit ‘next work’ and they were DATING #like we all agree that’s weird right 😭😭😭😭😭#the worst part is that the fic is good. a little hamfisted but earnest in its portrayal of early childhood trauma.#so why would you make them start dating????! I’ve been pacing my apartment for the last thirty minutes

If We Are lands the ending, it will probably end up being one of the best GMMTV QLs of 2024.

#it’s ep 14 and i’m still falling more and more in love with this show #like with some of the other gmmtv qls i’ve seen this year #i kind of started getting bored with towards the end #but not this show like the pacing of the relationships is so good #also we are not really having a plot allowed it to focus more on developing characters and character dynamics and it’s just so well done #regardless of how this show ends i’m gonna miss it so much #we are the series #we are series #thai drama #thai bl #gmmtv

Short answer is maybe. Long answer is "I absolutely want to and have been scribbling down notes for a personal take on this concept ever since I joined the fandom months before the movie even came out, the idea is very much there but I can't seem to narrow it down to a feasible format that wouldn't take me forever to make and there's so much context needed to reach that point it admittedly feels a little overwhelming, so I honestly have no idea whether I'll actually draw it someday or not, BUT the inspiration for it has remained constant and I think about it on a fairly regular basis, so... That's good. I think?" 😅

If anything, the 1-UP mushroom will definitely at least be mentioned in my art eventually, but I can't offer any guarantee other than that. ><

so i've been trying to learn chinese The Conventional Way(TM) and i have all these apps and books and traditional resources and there are so many of them and theyre all really really great but.

i've realised the reason i began understanding so much korean so fast is bc i got embarrassingly obsessed with kdramas to the point that i lived and breathed them and it was all that auditory input that excelled my learning from 0 to 100

so i think what i need is to get absolutely hooked on cdramas. i dont need them caffeinated ones like that one cup of coffee every morning that wakes you up. i need to sniff that powdered white opium that straight up rewires your brain chemistry ykwim

so ive watched some romcoms and theyre fun and stuff but what really stops me from sticking with them is that there's no motivation to continue watching them when i'm not in the mood for escapist romanticism. my favourite genres lean into mystery/thrillers (those tend to be my favourite kdramas too - yk the stuff that really makes you think) and im looking for engaging thrillers, (not necessarily with, but would be appreciated if they have) morally ambiguous characters, modern setting, and good actors. but most importantly - short and sweet - if the show wraps up within like 20 episodes then i'll be more inclined to binge.

so. any recs?

#for example reset is a great example and im struggling to find similar shows #with the same pacing and show length i mean #bai jing ting is also a really great actor and the romance was minimal but so organic and like. everything about that drama was So Good #cdrama recommendations #cdrama recs #moon talks

maybe it's to maintain a sense of tension & turmoil that would eventually reach an explosive peak, a sense of tug-of-war, a back-and-forth to hammer home the ideals they want to deliver and for the viewers to chew on, but although these arguments regarding hiroshi & his stance as a man torn between his loyalty for his country & the loyalty for his Filipino friends and lover is of course important, how they write these scenes & the points they present from this week alone is getting too repetitive...? literally the argument scenes from last night & tonight between adelina & hiroshi is basically the same; the ideas were the same, the dynamics were the same: the aggressive, radical adelina, bristling rage and fear over the injustices she's seen thus far, and the cautious, inspiriting hiroshi, all hopefulness and reassurance one moment as a lover, defensiveness and sternness as a japanese soldier in another. this debate will be ever-present ofc, it is one of the series' biggest conflicts, but it is unfortunately so easy to tell when it is a.) being pulled up as a main topic to move the plot along / be a necessary conflict for character development/introspection / be the conflict to deliver the morals & messages the writers want to send to their viewers, or b.) when it is being pulled up only for the drama and filler to pass the time. like watching the characters sit down to argue for 10 minutes, do other things for the plot for 2 minutes, then sit down again to argue for the next 20 minutes. lol.

#lots of things i wish they would soon improve but this 1 bothered me tonight..stopped watching halfway thru #these scenes would be like excellent breaks for when we need to take a breather to digest what's been going on #but at the slow pace they've set it it's just...nothing's been going on since like...4 days ago #except for eduardo's plot #it's just arguments..everywhere....all the time....over the same repetitive things #no progress nothing new to chew on despite there being drastic changes to their situation...? same vibes from the time they weren't occupie #yet lol. same dynamics mostly #only new points of debate is regarding hiroshi & his country vs friends conflict #& carmela being desperate to go back to comfort & luxury vs her family standing as firm as they could against the occupation #ahhh i am sooo not eloquent enough to express my full thoughts but like!!! fellow viewers if y'all r here u understand me right lmfoskadhsg #finding it hard to criticize bc i'm trying to make sense of where they r coming from #a.) seeing as unlike mcai this is a complete original story it's hard to see what direction they'd like to take it to #b.) fil shows really find it hard to break away from their normal formulas of family dramas & bastard children & love triangles :'))))#god the opportunity to tell a refreshing diff story but this is like gma show 67627627th but set in the japanese era....then mixed with 50%#of the mcai show feel #the editing the visuals the acting = good. 60% of the story line = can be compared to the hundreds of gma shows we've seen be4 #anywy going off on a tangent...#c.) i can understand the slow pacing as them trying to establish the settings & the feel of that era so that the more intense tragedies-#later on would hit harder #but again. few scenes feel like they're dragging on for too long. some scenes & themes r too repetitive #need to see something differenttt something fresh something developing. something moving & feeling & connecting w/the audience #need to see more of the Philippines & the Filipino people in the 40s!! not the same afternoon prime drama shot in intramuros #need to see their messages staring into our souls instead of just being words uttered in tears #all this to say....flop era this week tbh sorry #EXCEPT FOR MAX COLLINS & HER LIKE. 3 MINS SCREEN TIME. #im watching slowly so i can savor it #i just got past claudias diary entry about charlie #im so obsessed #its the kind of adaptation i have wanted all my life #it goes up there with hannibal #these books were Formative to me as a young queer #and seeing how they've really embraced the queerness and the romance alongside the horror and historical fiction angle #auhg #im chewing on it #the casting is so fucking good the actors are SO so perfect for their roles and bring SO much life to the characters #the script is so good it is so fucking funny sometimes #like it occupies the space between drama and horror and romance and comedy that only hannibal has to me before #it is a gothic romance. it is a hilarious one also #anyways thats all. no one talk to me about it yet. i am watching at a leisurely pace

#God this episode is so so good.#Tachihara sweetie I'm sorry I never talk about you. I swear I love him so so much he's an amazing character. I love his story and conflict–#so much.#This arc is peak bsd writing / meta literature plot. The tearing page moment is insane. The sentiments expressed here are so–#deep and emotional. The theme of the ordinary man. God and the force of human spirit.#Fighting against one's own destiny and finding the reason for own's existence. It's all subjects that are so interesting to reflect over–#and they're elaborated on in such a cool and compelling way. I love Dazai's quote on the strength of humans who–#“are caught in the tempest of contingency and scream‚ run and shed blood” so much. It moves me deeply.#The animation was really neat. A lot of detailed sequences. The wind was animated beautifully. The colors were so pretty and the stained–#glass visuals still go so hard.#Again I love Tachihara's conflict so much!!! I'm so into tachi/gin too... I know it's more of a Tachihara x oc since. Well.#We know little to nothing about Gin. But there's still so much spice to it... What do you MEAN Tachihara stabbed Gin !!!!!!#I'm so into the drama. AND the kind of relationship born from the big brother complex™ they both (may) share. AND the work partners.#AND the hiding their true identities to the other. How could I not love them...#Still believe season 4 should have ended where episode 11 ends but spreading it all in 12 episodes to allow it all better pacing.#I really think this season is great but the pacing really is its weakest point.#Of the sky casino arc they could have made a movie if they wanted to. Reading GF fic is such a trip because one minute it'll be like "the brothers have a heart-to-heart about how they've wronged each other" and the next it's like "everyone is saved from a chupacabra attack by the princess of the manatees" and then sometimes it's like "here's some weird nightmare alien porn" before eventually the looming mystery gets solved like:

aaaaahhhhhhh he's convinced no one wants him cause his parents neglected and abandoned him as a kid and she's like 'i want to be selfish with you, you should be loved by many people but i want you all for myself,' and she says this while holding him!!!!! he must be so fucking high off of her jeeeesussssssssss, like being wanted is his deepest desire she's hitting him right in the gut

#and this after praising him for like minutes on end #i actually find this drama very weird #and oddly (badly?) paced #but the simplicity of the elemental aspects of the romance.....they're v good #like a different kind of drama (or a book really) would do so much gender fuckery stuff with how they live in each other's bodies #but this is a trendy that could just as easily be a 15 min an ep short drama so #the day of becoming you #ep16

#:)#still can't believe i ended up reading at a 1 chapter a month pace #i never even intended to liveblog umineko in the first place lmao #which you can tell because the first few posts are just like 'i'm gonna start umineko'#'hey maria is a really good character and is correct about everything btw'#'battler jessica and maria are the only bitches on rokkenjima i trust and care about'#'i'm going insane what do you mean there are chapters just dedicated to failsibling drama arguments'#and then i started note taking and then after the rose garden scene i fully lost my mind #funny skimming over the 1-6 thoughtdump and seeing less than 2000 words of bullet points lmao #i love how the first couple posts of my liveblog so perfectly capture the exact moments of my descent into derangement #iirc someone sent an ask like 'you should definitely try keeping notes when reading umineko and share some theories every now and then'#not knowing that i'd already started my ridiculously meticulous note document and that this pushed me to go all in on my thoughts #although i'm gonna be honest i think *the* moment my brain broke with umineko was that 1-7 scene with kanon #literally all of this is because i Paid Attention to the fucked up servant dynamics and had the most unhinged brainblast known to man #funny to look back and reminisce on all this now lmao

I read the epilogue chapter, and yeah, there is A LOT of misinformation and it's definitely not that bad. My biggest issues with it is that it was framed really poorly, esp on Ochako's storyline, and it's something beyond shipping.

my biggest problem with the ending as a whole has remained pacing, and the lack of some scenes we all assumed would for sure be coming. I think this chapter is overall fine and follows (more or less) the expected route, but how small the entire epilogue was make it stick out weirdly.

#i for one think ochako's storyline could have been handled significantly worse and that for a canonization of a m/f pairing in the last #chapter it's like. largely okay. but again i was predicting “hey kacchan we called our children himiko and tenko will you be my best man”#so like #and maybe im settling? or maybe im just good at and really enjoy filling in the blanks?#there are things i genuinely did not like beyond the pacing but i just dont like shitting on a story i like so much and an author i like so #much like these things dont ruin anything for me and i understand if they do for others but i do actually like the canon we have #(even if im going to be writing a few fix its lmao)#the only thing is i do think katsuki and izuku should've maybe had another talk but thats within the realm of there clearly wasn't enough #time slash space #i think izuku refusing katsuki's place at his agency is like. fine. because its a way to show they're not too codependent or whatever which #fits that whole avoiding drama thing horikoshi said 431 does #in general i think every single choice horikoshi has made could've been received better and in general /been/ better if he had more space t #develop it #and i think the reason why im fine with all of it is because it doesn't bother me to fill in the gaps with whatever i want #ask//#by the way i think everyone should in fact remember that thing about 429 being the epilogue and 430 being the curtain call #not necessarily as a way to see 431 as non canon (if it makes you sleep better tho do that) but as a way to remember that the ending #that is clearly intended to be read as the real ending is 430. what with all the wrap around moments and the final words etc #just. 430 is the ending that is called my hero academia etc. to me 431 is exactly what it's called: more. canon #but not the ending. extras.

I'm about two days away from finishing the third draft of chapter 27

#its definitely longer than i wanted it to be #but its not so long that i will have to split it up #which is good #i think this chapter works best all in one go #it was nice to have some shorter chapters for a while but i think ill stick with longer chapters again from now on #i prefer the way the story flows with longer chapters #ive always thought of this story as having a sort of k-drama pacing rather than anime pacing #as in a longer episode where more happens rather than short episodes that past in the blink of an eye and leave you wanting more #not a lot of cliffhangers in this story #maybe thats not a good thing lol #cliffhangers keep people interested #but i dont want to leave a cliffhanger for 1 to 2 months between chapters and i really cant post any faster than that

I tried to watch this drama many times in the past but was always put off by the length, the tragedy, and the really bad pacing of the early eps.

But if you can look past these things…

I think there are very few dramas like this one in the world

#ruyi's royal love in the palace #legend of ruyi #overall I still like Zhen Huan more I think #Ruyi has its highs and lows but towards the end it’s just one long painful negative spiral #and I think by the very end I don’t even have it in me to hate the emperor anymore #I remember really struggling to get into this show #but then settled into a slow comfortable pace of about 1 ep a day #sometimes skipping days #and then just obsessively bingeing the last 30ish episodes #there were some stresses and fandom dramas over the past few weeks #so this show became a comfort and place to escape to #(even though it was also stressful)#it was good. I enjoyed it #it’s a very different type of drama from yanxi palace #but they’re both worth watching #very curious about huan zhe ge ge drama now though!
