Darry/Ponyboy and Dally/Johnny parallels
When the Curtis Parents died, Darry did everything to keep his brothers together. He provided them a house and food over their heads. He’s stressed and that causes him to treat Pony differently than before because he wants what is best for his little brother. He’s in charge now and he feels obligated to make something out of him, something that Darry could never be.
When Johnny came to Dally after he killed Bob, Dally provided him with some money for food and a place to hideout. But when Johnny wanted to go back, there was a side of Dallas Winston that never appeared before. He begged Johnny not to go back to Tulsa because jail changes people and he didn't want Johnny to turn out like himself. According to Pony, whatever decision Dally told Johnny to do, Johnny would have did it because his word is law.
When Ponyboy ran away, Darry was miserable. In the musical, he wanted to give up, throw in the towel because this ontop of everything else was too much for a 20-year-old to handle. Thank goodness Sodapop was there to assure him that he wasn't alone and that Darry needed to keep his spirit alive and fighting. When Ponyboy met him at the hospital, it was the first time Pony had ever seen him cry.
When Johnny dies, Dallas is obviously a wreck. Ponyboy says that Dally’s face was sweaty, but what if that was an unreliable narrator talking and Dally was actually crying? (Just watch a clip of “Little Brother” and look at Joshua Boone! Musical Dally IS crying.) He didn't know how to cope with this much despair and why did the world matter if Johnny Cade wasn't in it? There was no one there to keep Dally afloat, except maybe Johnny’s words to him in the letter. Words, how little they mean when they're a little too late.
They are two older brothers just doing everything in their power to protect their little brother.

the outsiders musical rant !! sorry if this doesn’t make sense, i just had to get it out there !
i find it interesting that despite being the main character of the outsiders musical, ponyboy does a lot of harmonizing with others instead of just taking the melody
he takes the melody when he’s narrating,, especially about his problems (tulsa ‘67, his solo parts in i could talk to you all night and far away from tulsa, etc.) but when he sings with other people, he is normally heard harmonizing
he opts up in grease got a hold and great expectations, leaving everyone else behind as they sing the melody. this shows his yearning for a life outside of tulsa, and a life outside of his problems. he takes the lower harmony in i could talk to you all night with cherry, and the highest harmony in throwing in the towel. he is always consumed by the need to get away.
cherry keeps him grounded. he can relate and connect with her, but it’s not enough. meanwhile, pony is disconnected from his brothers, but with darry most of all (darry sings the lower harmony, musically the furthest away from pony) while soda is the connector between the two, which is why soda is the one who takes the melody during the chorus of throwing in the towel when all three brothers sing together— soda is literally in the middle of them, stuck between a rock (darry) and and hard place (pony)
ponyboy is almost always harmonizing with everyone, except for when he’s with johnny. johnny is who he sings of running away with. by killing bob (in self defense!!) johnny is the one who makes running away a reality, which is why it’s fitting that johnny is the one takes the harmony when he sings with ponyboy in far away from tulsa and death’s at my door. he’s the one that pony feels the most safe and comfortable to be himself around because pony knows that johnny always understands him.
it’s only until after johnny dies that pony begins harmonizing with him instead, jumping between low and high harmonies during stay gold. this shows how affected he is by johnnys death— his harmonies are as “unstable” as he is. he finally comes back to the melody when he sings the last line of the song by himself, internalizing johnny’s message: to stay gold, to be himself, and to learn that there are so many more reasons to why life is worth living.
during the finale, he lets darry and sodapop read out the narration, showing that he has successfully mended the gap between him and darry. he sticks to the melody throughout the entire song. he no longer opts up like he did in the beginning because he has realized that running away from his problems (and running away from the melody) cannot solve anything. by the end of the outsiders musical, ponyboy has finally grown into his own skin and is no longer ashamed of where he comes from.

Those memories, those moments, were what fueled your creativity.
You’d written about the way his fingers intertwined with yours during a late-night walk, how he always made you feel like the only person in the world when he looked at you. The way his eyes would light up whenever he got lost in a ramble, explaining some obscure fact or statistic with a passion that made your heart swell.
And then there were the nights where the world outside ceased to exist—the ones where you’d stay tangled in bed long after the sun had risen, whispering secrets and sweet nothings, your bodies and souls completely intertwined. The song came to an end, and you let the last note linger in the air before you pulled the headphones off, stepping away from the mic. The room was silent for a moment, the weight of what you’d just recorded settling over everyone.
Your producer leaned forward, a look of approval on his face. “That was perfect. I think we’ve got it.”
You gave a small, relieved smile, but you didn’t move from where you stood. The producer and sound engineer began gathering their things, the producer casting a knowing glance between you and Spencer. “We’ll leave you to it, then. Just lock up when you’re done,” he said. “Goodnight.” 
The door clicked shut behind them, leaving you and Spencer alone. The silence stretched on for a moment before Spencer pushed the button on the console to speak through the speakers into the booth.
“Is there something else you want to record?” he asked, his voice gentle but curious.
You hesitated, your fingers tracing the edge of the mic stand as you looked at him through the glass. “There is… but I’m really embarrassed to do it in front of other people,” you admitted, your voice just above a whisper, even though you knew he could hear you clearly.
Spencer’s brow furrowed slightly. “Embarrassed? Why?”
You took a deep breath, trying to steady your nerves. “It’s… it’s a song I wrote. It’s about… well, about us. Specifically, about our… sex life.” You could feel your face heat up as you spoke, averting your eyes to the floor. “My producer suggested adding some… um, moans in the background, but it’s really awkward to do it in front of anyone else.”
Spencer’s eyes widened slightly, but he quickly composed himself, understanding washing over his features. “So… you want me to stay and just press record and stop for you?”
You nodded, feeling a wave of relief at his understanding. “Yeah. I can’t do it with them here, but… I trust you. It’s just, every time I try, it either comes out flat or too breathy. I’m too in my head.”
Spencer’s lips quirked into a small smile, and he nodded. “Okay. I can do that.”
He walked over to the console, settling into the chair that the sound engineer had vacated, his fingers hovering over the controls. You adjusted the mic, closing your eyes for a moment to collect yourself before you spoke again. “Okay, I’m ready.”
Spencer pressed the record button, and you began. The first few attempts were rough, your voice coming out boring and flat, lacking the emotion you wanted to convey. Each time, you stopped, shaking your head, frustration building as you couldn’t quite get it right. Spencer patiently stopped the recording each time, offering you encouraging smiles, but the tension was mounting. After a few more failed tries, you couldn’t help but let out a nervous giggle, breaking the tension in the room. 
“This is so awkward,” you admitted, laughing softly as you looked at Spencer, who chuckled along with you.
“You’re overthinking it,” Spencer said, his voice warm and reassuring. “Just relax. I’ll even turn around.” 
You nodded, appreciating his understanding, and tried again. But this time, the frustration only grew. The sounds were either too forced or completely flat, and each attempt left you feeling more and more tense. Finally, you let out a groan of frustration, stepping out of the booth to grab a bottle of water, trying to unwind.
Spencer watched you as you sipped the water, his eyes thoughtful. “I think I know a way to help you get authentic moans,” he said after a moment, his voice low and careful.
You blinked at him, trying to piece together what he was suggesting. At first, you were hesitant, not quite believing what he was implying. But the way he looked at you, his eyes full of that familiar warmth and affection, made it clear. He was serious.
“Spence…” you started, your voice trailing off as you considered it.
He gave you a small, reassuring smile. “There are no cameras in here,” he reminded you, his voice soft. “And I’ll be very, very quiet.”
You felt your heart race as his words hung in the air, a mix of nervous excitement bubbling up inside you. Before you could respond, Spencer leaned in, his lips gently brushing against yours in a soft, lingering kiss. The heat of his touch, the familiar taste of his lips, sent a shiver down your spine.

When you showed Spencer the plaque for the double platinum record, his eyes lit up with pride. “So,” he said, a playful smirk tugging at his lips, “are you going to give me writing credit for this?”
You laughed, rolling your eyes. “I think we can keep that our little secret.”

natasha was raised to be observant. noticing the details many miss at first glance. her first impression of you was, clearly, shy. but she saw how loud your actions were.
when there were meetings and a question was asked there would be a silence for a moment. she’d see you inhale, about to open your mouth, when someone else answers and you sink back to your chair.
natasha notices the bouncing of your leg when it’s almost your turn to present the mission recap, and the gulp you take before speaking a few quiet words. but she also sees how you straighten your posture, more confident after a while.
but more so, how it’s rare to see you without your earphones. working out, eating breakfast, sitting outside, laying on the bed, there was always those wired earphones connected to your phone.
occasionally natasha could catch a glimpse of the album cover playing on your lock screen.
it was only recently when everyone was gathered in the common room, enjoying free time, when thor returned. you broke your right arm on a mission so you had a cast, unable to move it.
you had left your earphones on the couch while getting a glass of water when thor’s hand accidentally brushed it and a little crackling noise was heard.
natasha turned to the sound and frowned when she saw the white (really a little grey since it’s been used for so long) earphones turn a burnt brown color.
you returned and saw thor examining your earphones. he apologized over and over saying he would get you a new pair as soon as possible, you nodded, muttering a ‘don’t worry’, and took them as you left.
natasha liked that you didn’t say ‘it’s okay’, because you probably wouldn’t have meant it.
natasha decided to check up on you, knocking on your door. she heard a few grunts and things falling but the door opened as you pulled a sweater over your tank top. “hey natasha” you smiled, widening the door with your hand.
“you alright? where are you going?” natasha examined the room “uhh about to get some new earphones” “you’re driving with one hand to the mall” natasha raised a brow “perhaps” you shrugged, putting on your socks.
“i’ll drive you” natasha offered “no! i mean- no..” natasha squint her eyes “.. i don’t want to bother you” “i was bored anyways, see you at the front in 5 minutes” natasha winked and left with no room left to argue.
you laughed quietly before becoming a little nervous. you admired natasha, who didn’t? but you always knew natasha was an observer, you were too. you couldn’t help but feel a little shy as she read you like an open book, that’s what you thought at least.
you met natasha outside as she smirked in her chevrolet corvette stingray. you smiled, hopping inside as you put your seatbelt on.
“so what mall are we going to?” natasha asked “the closest one” you shrugged
it was comfortable silence for awhile until there was a red stop light and natasha fiddled with the screen in the car. she handed her phone to you and you looked at it confused. “play your music, sweetheart” she started the car again as the green light went.
if you were standing you would have fallen to the ground with that nickname. “thanks” you murmured, searching the songs you wanred on her spotify. you smiled already seeing fleetwood mac in her searched.
you played around with it a little, starting off with dreams, then drake’s passionfruit, and some daniel caesar songs. it wasn’t a long ride but natasha could tell you were biased daniel.
she watched from her peripheral as you mouthed the words quietly, gazing (gayzing) out the window.
the walk inside the mall was quiet. natasha insisted she come with you. you bought yourself the normal pair of wired earphones at apple but decided to spoil yourself and get a pair of wireless headphones, just incase.
she didn’t mind staying behind or beside you as you smiled hearing music, testing the different kinds of headphones. you turned around and tapped natasha’s shoulders, she looked at you expectingly as you turned one side of the flexible silver sony headphones to her and she pressed her ear against it. daniel caesar’s “do you like me” flooded her ears
“Is this one good?” you looked at her. she stood up straighter and nodded. “the rose gold one looked cuter on you though” she rasped out while you blushed.
you walked to the counter. you bought the rose gold ones. the ride home all you played was daniel caesar.
you hugged natasha with one arm as a thank you before hurrying to your room, eager to try your new headphones.
natasha wondered if it was a good idea to let you buy them because now, she seemed to talk to you less.
it had been 2 weeks later, arm fully healed when natasha asked you, personally, to assist her on her 3 day long mission. she just wanted to spend more time with you.
you nodded with a small smile and natasha was ecstatic. until she heard you at the kitchen. “hey! i was wondering if you wanted my daniel concert ticket? i don’t think i’ll be able to make it…” natasha saw you fiddling with the blue ticket, her chest tightened. “great! i’ll send over the tickets later, thanks!” natasha made her way to her room, to do research on this concert.
she kept a straight face as the concert was the exact 3 days she had just asked you on a mission for.
natasha would make it up to you.
right after the mission, natasha dropped the team off at the shield headquarters when she flew you both to the next location this daniel caesar was performing. “nat, where are we goin?” you laughed
“surprise” she winked
she asked you to change into your usual clothes and dragged you through the crowd. “oh my god” you saw the banner of the concert “OH MY GOD!” you shrieked as you walked into the theatre “NATASHA! you! i-! what!” you jumbled your words as natasha laughed at your antics, dragging you to good middle upper seats.
“no one has ever done this for me” you admitted, staring into her eyes. people started screaming as your favorite artist entered the stage. you still couldn’t tear your eyes away from natasha.
the song “do you like me” played and you sang quietly the lyrics to natasha ‘low on time i’d like to make a move’ you murmured, inching closer to you, as she did. when your lips met, you felt on fire.
“thanks for driving me to the mall that day” you said against her ear, grinning “thanks for being the music to my heart”

Moving from your old home is a scary thing, whether you don't care for the danger ahead. Change is different, it's an oddity.
So when you find an old soundtrack album of a kids show from the 70s when you were unpacking. You grow curious.
Noticing a dusty old record player in the farther corner, you try to recall how to even use one. Begrudgingly searching up how to work the machine on your phone. You smile in pride as the vinyl disc starts to swirl about.
Picking up the album cover, you look over the design.
A cast of colorful characters smiles on the cover. Their expressions are forever saved in place, at least eight puppet-looking creatures waved or paid attention to the viewer. Even a little odd house with windows for eyes.
As if they stared right back at you.
Ignoring your uneasiness, you place the item down near the record-player and continued unpacking the little items you brought. That moving truck better be here by tomorrow..
Your feet tap to a few songs, occasionally singing or humming along clumsily with your own made-up lyrics.
When it became nighttime, you were uneasy, the loud noises from outside, and your paranoid self couldn't handle the stress. Grabbing a random record, you place the needle on the disc and throw the covers over yourself. Trying to drown out the world for at least a little peace.

Waking up to bright lights and rainbow color schemes surprised you. Your legs moved on their own as they take in the sights and sounds of this weird dream.
Houses and streets greet you, along with music that you swore was playing before you fell asleep.
Coming closer to the source of the music, you were shocked by the characters on the album singing and dancing to the rhythm.
One of them notices you and waves you over to join them.
You smile, this was a dream you could get used too.
Joining in with your messy lyrics and footwork. The puppets greet you with open arms and cheers.
When the song finishes, one of them comes up to you. They smile gently, holding out their hand for a handshake, asking for your name.
You tell them, ask for their own.
Before they could say it, they were interrupted by a pink monster girl.
"My name is Julie! That frowny face over there is my best buddy! Frank Frankly! Oh! And over here is..." She continued as she finally finishes with the blue-haired puppet who was shaking your hand.
Not once letting his eyesight stray away from you. "He's Wally! Wally Darling!" Julie said.
She then whispers into your ear loudly. "He's a painter! He likes to paint pretty things.."
The rainbow monster giggles, nudging you coyly and side-eyeing the other puppet.
He appeared uncaring of his friends' teasing, he only smiles. His attention was solely on you, it made you feel... Special.
He made you feel special.
In the following days, you felt yourself changing, you were happier. Content with your daytime life and nighttime shenanigans with Wally and the rest of the puppets.
Hell, even your clothes were starting to change into a whole new style. The colors and lengths become more in tune with the type of clothes your friends wore in your dreams.
Yes. They were your friends, especially Wally, he had become your closest friend in your polychromatic fantasy.
And you couldn't be more thankful. At least, in the beginning...
The more you slept, the longer you stayed, it felt as if the world where Wally resided wouldn't let you leave. As if it was crying out for you to come back whenever you woke up.
You couldn't handle the newfound drowsiness you found yourself in day in and day out. It started to take a toll on you, to the point where you feared to sleep. Afraid that if you fell back into the fantasy, you may never leave.

So I have the musical as a private playlist on YouTube. I haven’t shared it to anyone, it’s just me listening. I haven’t been checking the views on the playlist but apparently there are 742 views AND ITS JUST MINE! In two months of this album existing I’ve somehow viewed 23 videos 742 times!! (I got the first version of GE and the MV of TITT and SG and LB on there twice so that’s why there is extra). My jaw dropped. It has to be wrong but I like…I believe it 😂

Characters:
Scaramouche — Owns the title of “wildest casting story.” During an interview, Scara stated that he threatened the scouting agent of filing a restraining order if they kept chasing him. Scara declined multiple times after interrogating the scouting agent why he should audition in the first place, but they were persistent. He finally agreed but the audition date overlapped with his exam day. So, the casting agents adjusted their audition schedule for him.
Venti — Looks like a cinnamon roll, will murder you. Venti is the scariest member of 5WIRL. No one messes with his group without paying for it. Once argued with the company over having creative reign for their future albums. The meeting went on for 5 hours. In the end, the company never questioned Venti’s decisions ever again.
Heizou — When he was young, his mother explained how she had a dream of watching him perform on stage with 4 other boys. But, Heizou was naughty and obnoxious growing up, who never fancied other people unless they had stories to tell. He brushed his mother’s words off, before running outside to play with his TCG cards. Little did he know, that adult Heizou would be playing those same cards with the 4 boys his mother saw in her dream at his hotel room after a successful concert.
Kazuha — Since debut, Kazuha has always been the mature member of 5WIRL. He has always maintained a relaxed demeanor during stressful situations. Fans have speculated where his supply of patience comes from especially when living with 4 bickering men. When asked, he always responded with, “Noise canceling headphones, yoga equipment, a locked door, and when times are hard, 🍃 works best — it’s a whole new world.”
Xiao — Looks scary, is a cinnamon roll. He never intended to be a part of 5WIRL. In fact he was promised to only become their dance choreographer. But the CEO insisted he train with the others to better “enhance” his dancing. Then, they trained him to sing to “better feel” the music when dancing. After 2 years of training, he made the official line-up. He swore he was scammed into joining.
Aether — Was supposed to be in the final line-up for 5WIRL, but decided to step-down from the group before debut to work as their producer instead. The 5WIRL members respected his decision.

Soothing, soft yet slightly calloused thumbs press up and down your lower spine. Skin buzzing as a hum to match the cicadas outside your window crawls out of your chest. 
Hazy, warm, and heavy summer air blows into the room, curtains dancing along to the quiet record playing. The heat of the fading day filling the room is your shared excuse to peel more and more layers off in front of each other. 
Well, and the high filling both of your bodies. 
Down to a pair of pajama shorts and a thin tank top, Eddie still in his jeans and a band t-shirt he's rolled the sleeves of. Turning to look back at him, you find his curls are sticking to his forehead, cheeks flushed pink, brown eyes roaming over your body, and a joint smoking in between plush pink lips.
It's unfair for him to look like that. Should be illegal for his thumbs to feel like they do on your skin and make you moan like you just did.
His eyes peek at yours at the noise, his cheeks flushing pinker and you steal the joint from between his lips and face the other direction again, blaming the heat and high for the way your body warms and not his blush. 
Inhaling slowly as rough pads of fingertips graze your sides, pushing your shirt up slightly as his thumbs roam higher up your spine. Exhaling as you both make a move you can't take back at almost the same time. His fingertips brush the sides of your braless chest as you push and roll your hips back, the curve of your ass hitting the erection he's been unsuccessful in hiding.
Record crackling as the album ends, both of you hold your breath waiting for the other to say something - do something. 
It's Eddie that finally acts first, fingers brushing back down as he clears his throat behind you, "Sorry."
Body thrumming with what could have just happened, you seize the moment and roll onto your back, playing coy, “About what?” you bring the joint to your lips and watch his eyes look anywhere but your chest, hands still suspended just over your hips like he was prepared to keep going with the massage. 
Eddie clears his throat again and tugs at the collar of his shirt as you sit up, legs relaxed and laid out between his folded thighs. Exhaling, you place a hand on the ripped denim of his knee and laugh, “Relax, Eddie.”
He rolls his eyes, fingers spinning his rings and finally makes eye contact with you again as he mumbles, “I am relaxed. Relaxed is my middle name. It’s just,” he tugs at his collar again as you catch his eyes glancing down at your chest. Wiping his brow with the back of his hand when he looks away, he continues to mumble, “Just hate how hot it is.”
Shrugging as you extract yourself from underneath him, using his thigh to hop off the bed, fingers dangerously close to brushing his hard length that he’s quick to place his arm in front of, you hand him the joint. Padding over to your record player to change the album, head and gaze cast down to the bright red polish stark against the carpet, fiddling with the needle as you try to hide the eagerness in your voice as you suggest, “Well, take your shirt off then.”
Eddie’s coughing fit causes your bottom lip to pull between your teeth as you start a new record. Turning to him and rolling your eyes, “Eddie, jesus, I’ve seen you without your shirt on,” you steal the joint back from him and laugh, “Remember the party at the lake last year?” 
He nods as you exhale, “You were in the lake, and I shotgunned with Warner Reed, oh my god, it was terrible, bad breath and just awful.”
Eddie’s eyebrows furrow under his sweaty bangs, his eyes stay focused on your lips as he bites at his thumb, mumbling a sort of hum from the back of his throat and shrugs.
Handing him the joint, you mimic his shrug, “What’s that? Why are you shrugging?”
Eddie’s lips mold around the rolled paper, eyes on yours as you try to keep your legs from pressing together at the image of his lips wrapped around the burning paper and his hollowed cheeks and jawline cast in the golden fading light. He speaks through blowing out the smoke, “I’ve never shotgunned, so,” he shrugs again, “I wouldn’t know what was good or not.”
A scoff falls from you, “What? You, Eddie Munson, have never shotgunned?”
He shakes his head no and your insides squirm thinking of how you couldn’t have planned it better if you tried. Your hand finds his shoulder and you sit next to him on the bed, bare thigh pressing against his denim one. 
Before you lose your nerve, you turn your body towards him more, leaning into his space, and he inhales sharply, “Wh-What are you doing?”
A timid smile falling upon your lips and you gesture to take the joint, “Shotgunning. I’m gonna smoke, and instead of blowing it out normally, I’ll lean in, close to your mouth, and you’ll inhale it.”
“I know how it-” he interrupts, rolling his eyes. 
Your fingers tap on his shoulder as you hum, interrupting him right back, “Sure, but you’ve never done it so-”
“Doesn’t mean I don’t know how it works,” his hand lands on your hip, finger resting on your exposed skin just under the hem, casual, like the skin to skin contact isn’t sending electric shockwaves through your body. 
Squeezing his shoulder, you laugh, “Alright, alright.”
Eddie’s brown eyes seem to grow larger - warmer. A fondness in his gaze as he watches you bring the joint to your mouth, an audible gulp from him as you slowly inhale. Your hand glides from his shoulder to curl around his neck, slick skin and tense muscles below your fingertips, playing with the edge of his collar. Peering into his eyes for a final confirmation, you tilt your head and remove the joint, leaning further into his space until he parts his lips as you open yours. Eddie’s eyes close as the smoke slips from your mouth and into his. Your lips brush his, a gentle and barely there pass, and neither of you move. His still closed, you let your eyes fall slowly as you hesitantly move your mouth against his, wrapping your lips around his bottom one. Not quite a shotgun any more, and not quite a kiss. 
Heart hammering in your chest as you wait for what feels like an eternity until Eddie’s hand squeezes your waist. His mouth moves against you, top lip pressing to meet yours and a moan escapes him as you squeeze the back of his neck lightly. Tongue slipping out, you lick across his bottom lip as his hands wrap around your back, pulling you closer to him. Reaching across his body, you peek an eye open to rest the joint in the ashtray, Eddie’s hands on your hips, the cool metal of his rings stinging your hot skin as you let your leg fall over his, straddling his thighs. 
You’ve wanted to kiss Eddie like this for years, and as your hands push his shoulders back down onto the bed, you’ve never been more thankful for Warner Reed, the Indiana summer heat, and your best friend’s job providing courage in the form of weed to finally do so. Bodies slipping together even with clothes between you, your hands dip under his shirt. Fingertips grazing up his side and he shivers despite the heavy heat filling the room, peeling his lips from yours as his hands squeeze your hips. Eddie’s eyes are dazed, a hazy warmth to them as he swallows harshly, tongue poking out to lick his bottom lip. His hands folded into fists, knuckles roam up your body and he closes his eyes, “We…” eyes opening as his hands find your neck, thumbs rubbing small circles, “We should stop.”
You can’t be bothered to try to decipher what he means, it doesn’t seem like he wants to stop. Your soft and thin shorts let you feel the hard bulge pressing into you as you roll your hips, nose rubbing along his sharp jawline, “What?”
Eddie’s breath is hot against your neck, goosebumps rising on your body as his whisper tinged with a whine hits your ear, “How high are you? Because I promise you, if you wanna do more of this, as soon as we’re both sober, we can do every dirty little thing you ever dreamed of.”
Your reaction is involuntary, a moan escapes your lips. At the sound, his is equally unable to control, a jolt of his hips into yours and squeeze of his fingers on your shoulders, a quiet, “Fuck,” falls from his lips. 
Pulling away from him enough to look in his eyes, your fingers in his hair tangle more, “I’m not too high to know I want this, that I want you,” nudging your nose against his, “I’ve always wanted you Eddie.” He sighs, his hands rubbing circles into your bare shoulders as your noses slide against each other’s. Heavy breathing, chests moving in tandem, sweaty skin pressed together as your eyes lock on one another, telling each other it’s okay to let this happen. 
A moment of freefall, the precipice of change, the minute the day dreams become reality - a charge to the air, a feeling you wish you could capture as you look into each other’s eyes, over too quickly and yet not quick enough. 
Eddie’s lips crash into yours, hungrier and sloppier than earlier and your body is rolling before you realize, his weight on top of you, pressing you into your bed. Mumbling against your lips, “Seriously, tell me to stop and I’ll stop.” 
Your fingers tangled into his hair tug slightly as you gasp around his mouth at the roll of his hips, “Don’t you dare.”
He laughs quietly, thumb brushing your jaw, his lips leaving one, two, three quick pecks before they move across your cheek. Wet and hot open mouthed kisses trailing down your neck. Wrapping your legs around his waist and back arching off of the bed as his mouth latches onto the sensitive spot you told him Matthew Jasons found at the Halloween party two years ago, body buzzing from the fact that he remembered. 
Large hands gripping at your stomach, shoving your shirt up as he continues to suck a bruise into your neck. The thought of walking around with his mark on you made a shiver run down your spine. His moan against your skin as his fingers brush the edge of your chest, this time definitely on purpose, causes your legs to tighten around his waist. 
Detaching himself from your neck, his kisses trail down your collarbone, meeting the bunched up shirt. Your hands locked around the back of his head and legs around his waist making him stuck halfway and he laughs against your skin, "Sweetheart, work with me here."
Sure, Eddie's called you sweetheart loads of times. But this was different, and he didn't realize the weight of it until your breath hitched at the petname. A little dizzy at his words, you watch his warm brown eyes start to be taken over by his blown out pupils, the golden light fading to oranges and pinks settling against his skin. Colors and the moment sweet like summer sherbert and you think you might just be in love with Eddie, but no way you're saying that to him yet. 
You think he knows though, as he reaches behind him, pulling your hand from his hair, bringing it up to his mouth. Silky lips pressing a small kiss to your knuckles and you practically melt underneath him. A confidence about his actions now that he’s seen the dazed and lovestruck look on your face. He finishes detangling himself from you, arms crossing and pulling off his shirt in a fluid motion. Palms finding his pale chest almost immediately again, you let them roam over his exposed skin, tracing the once hidden tattoos and start to pull him down to your mouth again. 
Lips salty from your sweat, sweet from the jolly ranchers you’d both been sucking on all day, and a hint of weed. Smooth and fluid movements, tongues sliding together, like your sole purpose in life is to kiss the other. Kissing that’s slow and patient, savoring one another as your bodies grind together. Your shirt finally pulled from you as you both whine in protest at the mere seconds your mouths and bodies aren’t connected. Eddie’s hands roam over your skin, calloused fingertips tantalizingly grazing over every curve, dip, and freckle like he was trying to memorize you. Lips detaching from yours only to pant your name against your still moving mouth. Begging him to keep saying your name as you roll your hips against his, fingers dipping down to work on removing his jeans. 
His hands rest on either side of your head now, he nudges your nose, your hands stalling as he whispers against your lips, “Can I take care of you, baby?”
All you can do is nod as his hands slide down your body, noses bumping together again as he presses one more chaste kiss to your lips before following his hands. Tugging your shorts off to reveal you hadn’t been wearing underwear either, almost a growl escapes him as he kisses your ankle, tossing the garment as his mouth moves up your leg, his voice cracking, “Jesus Christ.”
The sight of you laid out before him seemed to make him even more frantic, fingers squeezing your soft thighs, mouth kissing up them, nipping your skin gently. And when his lips finally make it to where you desperately wanted him, you squeeze your eyes shut, body tensing. Trying to relax, but Eddie was almost too excited. Nose and lips bumping just shy of where you wanted them, moving away too quickly. 
Legs sliding up, resting against his shoulders and you squirm against his harsh movements, “Ed-Eddie-” your hands in his curls, and he hums, refusing to come up for air and you tug on his hair a little, “Slow down, I think you’re-”
He pulls away, gazing up at you with big brown eyes, cheeks darkening, and the cool metal of his rings graze the outside of your thigh as he rests his forehead against the inside, and he sighs, “Not good, is it?”
Your bodies are barely lit now, an almost below the horizon pale pink sun casting you both in soft light. The way his clearly dejected face peers at you could have made your heart explode in your chest and you shake your head quickly, “No, no, it’s good, just…” propping up slightly, you push his bangs across his forehead and smile, “Just take your time, okay? Listen to the music, relax, no rush, I’m not going anywhere, Munson.”
He sighs again, but kisses your thigh before shimmying his body back down. You hold your breath, waiting, as you feel his own, warm and fanning across your sensitive skin. A barely there pressure, you hear him softly hum and your fingers relax in his hair as his nose swipes a straight line up, parting your lips and gliding easily through your slick. Moaning his name as his mouth sucks around your clit, you shamelessly scoot lower, pressing deeper into him, legs slowly falling back to the bed.
Eddie’s tongue swirls around the sensitive button under the seal of his lips, flicking along with the quiet music and you roll your hips against him. His hands find them, pressing you down gently and you whine, body filling with a warmth from your head to your toes. Body fully relaxing into him, his thumbs rub gentle circles into your hip as he slowly moves lower with his lips, nose bumping the swollen nerves now. Your body shivers against the pressure and he angles his head, hitting it again and your hands grip your comforter, needing to chase the feeling and run away from it all at the same time. Eddie’s mouth molds around one of your lips, tugging and sucking gently and your body convulses, shivering from the pleasure tingling throughout every nerve in your body. Encouraged by your reactions, his licks, kisses, and sucking only seem to get slower, relishing in every long sigh, gasp, and whine of his name that he’s able to pull out of you. 
It could have been minutes, it could have been hours that Eddie spent taking care of you. Your body melted into the bed, bodies wrapped together. Heavy and warmer than the summer sun that had disappeared, sweaty skin pressed together as your mouths moved in rhythm with the quiet music still playing. Humming into each other in tune with the cicadas that had only grown louder. Soft, soothing, though slightly calloused thumbs drift up and down your spine as Eddie whispers your name into the room now enveloped in a purple and blue dark twilight.

Thoughts on The Outsiders Album
Okay, as I said yesterday, I have a LOT of thoughts on the album and I decided to revive this page so I stop bothering everyone IRL with my thoughts about it 😂 I figure there must be a good amount of people on tumblr who are down to listen to my rants about the album, so here goes.
I'll put it under a cut so there aren't any spoilers for anyone who hasn't listened yet, and I know there's one or two things which I've heard about the prouction via other posts and such. But I will stress that I haven't actually seen it, I've only listened to the album and obsessed over it 😂
It's also below the cut because it's fucking LOOOOONG

I'm gonna go through the album sequentially, like track by track, because that feels like the thing to do, even though I will say right off that I definitely have more thoughts about some tracks than others. And I will also give my favourite line from each song. But for a just, like, general overview to begin with - I love the album so much?
I will fully admit that I was kinda preparing myself for it to be bad - it's a book that I love and I wasn't the biggest fan of the movie adaptation for a few key reasons, but I was so pleasantly surprised by the musical soundtrack.
I'm in love with the style of music, I love the entire cast (all of them have such different singing voices and styles and I think that they merge together so beautifully), and it has most of the things that I love in a musical - for me, it's got the right balance of the talking sections included with the singing, as well, which I know some people aren't huge fans of, but I might be biased because Soda is and always has been my favourite character and most of the talking is by him 😂 (I love Jason Schmidt, but we'll talk about that later), and as well as that the style of music and singing like gives me a good picture of what the actual choreography might look like, which I'm obsessed with, since I probably won't get to see it unless it somehow gets to the West End (🤞🏻)
Tulsa '67
Okay so this song is just like ✨exposition ✨ but it's done in a fun way, and I've decided it's worth it just for the finale reprise
I was also like stupidly emotional the first time I heard it and it opened with the opening line of the book
I was wary because of the immediate characterisation of Sodapop as being the brother "with a broken heart" (side note - does this mean Sandy broke his heart before the show rather than after it? I've goes QUESTIONS) - I'll go into it again when we get into Grease Got a Hold for obvious reasons, but I was worried that Soda was gonna be reduced into just being a womaniser again, which is something that bothered me about the movie adaptation
Favourite line: "all the girls are pretty there, and all the guys are mean"
Grease Got a Hold
right so it has no right to be as much of a bop as it is, it's been stuck in my head for the past week since it came out and I can't even be mad about it 😂
It's essentially just a typical "gang" song to introduce and characterise all the different members
Dally always saying "Little brother" got me so emotional like immediately
And I know I just said that I was upset with Soda's characterisation as a womaniser, but considering later songs, I will say I do find it really funny that he basically just goes "yeah I'm a greaser bc I love women 😊"
I LOVE TWO-BIT MATTHEWS - I would die for Daryl Tofa, just something soooooo good about the line he gives after Soda's verse
I have to admit, I was a little worried that they were gonna be pushing some anti-Darry propaganda, but I had no cause to worry, as he's an actual angel. Also it's so funny how fucking Done he is the moment he starts speaking
Something really funny about Steve not getting a verse, but something really sad about Johnny not getting one, but I don't have fully fleshed out thoughts yet so I'm gonna leave that there
But also there's just something about all of them trying to act tough, but all of them just have the voices of angels
Favourite line: "I'm a latch-key kid but they keep changing the locks" and also "you wanna be a fighter? then know just what you're fighting for"
Runs in the Family
I'm upset because this song has been such an ear-worm for me, but it's actually just so sad? There are a couple of these, but this is one of the main ones for me
It immediately makes Darry just such a sympathetic character - it's well documented that Ponyboy doesn't feel like he's enough of a greaser, but I don't think we talk enough about Darry is a reluctant greaser
Side note: but I'm really glad that they included Darry having dropped out of school to look after Soda and Pony, because that was kinda glossed over in the movie, which I felt did Darry a disservice
I just want to hug Brent Comer and tell Darry that he's doing a good job and everything will be okay 🥲
Favourite line: "I don't know what them boys would ever do without me - and what would I do on my own?"
Great Expectations
honestly this song deserves a post all of it's own, and maybe one day I'll do a full analysis of it
but in the meantime, it's fucking GORGEOUS, like Brody Grant has NO RIGHT to sound like this I'm so mad
THE FUCKING HARMONIES I WANNA SCREAM THEY'RE SO GOOD
One of the things I've loved about the soundtrack in general is how Pony in particular draws parallels and comparrisons between Johnny and the other greasers - here it's between Darry and Johnny, and I love it because Pony references in the book that he feels like he and Johnny are the outsiders in the greasers, he feels like neither of them really belong there, and they convey that so well in the musical with these constant comparisons in the songs and music
The continual return back to this idea of a self-fulfilling prophechy - trying to prove that they're not all the same just because they're greasers (like with the different verses in Grease Got a Hold), and this striving for individuality despite the overarching label they've been given
Favourite line: "It's hard to write this story, when this story's writing me"
Friday at the Drive-in
they all just sound so young - that's my main take-away from this song
I love songs in musicals like this where you're forced to be reminded how young the characters are and you have to humanise them a bit more - a bit like with "Drink with Me" in Les Mis
Also anytime that a soundtrack includes the dance-break it makes me so happy 🥲
Favourite Line: "Got no more stress, nothing to worry me - no more teacher's pet or trigonometry"
I Could Talk to You All Night
I need to say that I love this song, but the opening from Cherry is so fucking savage - like fucking hell there's no need to do that to Pony 😂
Again obsessed with Pony not feeling like enough of a Greaser
I'm a sucker for two people who feel lost in their own worlds finding each other and bonding because they can be themselves in a way that they can never be around their other friends
It's just such a pretty duet, and I want more of Brody Grant and Emma Pittman singing - we could have a million songs of the two of them and it wouldn't be enough
Favourite line: "I'd rather read then fight a rumble, but Greasers have to go along"
Runs in the Family (Reprise)
Dude it's such a serious song, and I'm obsessed that despite that there's just Soda being a little shit in the background
"I'll fold your laundry - I'LL FOLD ALL OF IT"
I love that even in this song it's like you can tell he's just so worried about Pony but it's coming out so angry and frustrated
So full of grief for the life he almost had
He's just so angry at Pony for still being able to dream, and it's like he feels like he needs to prepare Pony for real life, because he feels like he can't dream or wish for things anymore
And then just the screeching violin at the end of the song followed by DEAD FUCKING SILENCE, and then it switches to the next song where Pony starts singing acapella it's just herugighadlsiughukdhjsak, y'know?
Favourite line: "Whats the use in dreaming, about a life I'll never know? That ship sailed long ago"
Far Away from Tulsa
okay so I've already said that I'm obsessed with it beginning with Brody Grant acapella, and I know that the songs probably don't flow straight from one to the other in the actual production, but for the sake of the cast recording the effect is incredible
But also, there was absolutely no need to make this song so gay 😂 - Ponyboy, the bisexual icon we all need
It's very reminiscent of Santa Fe, with just kids dreaming for a life that they could have outside of their big city. Especially with the line "this place is real, it's not just in my head", which is VERY similar to "just be real is all I'm asking, not some painting in my head", but I'm okay with it because Brody Grant is incredible
But that line, as well as the one "'Ponyboy you're just a dreamer', that's what both my brothers say" are also really great links back to the previous song with the references of him being a dreamer, and that being what sets him apart from the other Greasers
I also just wanna say that I think it's criminal that there weren't more Pony/Johnny duets. Sky Lakota-Lynch and Brody Grant own my soul
Also catch me being emotional over Johnny's dream being wanting a family - he doesn't realise that he's already got one in the gang 🥺 (I could write an essay about this and Dally's continued use of 'little brother')

Run Run Brother
There's so much to say about this song, but I literally can't formulate the words, so it's probably gonna be one that I come back to and properly analyse later. so in the meantime, here are my key take-aways
right from the beginning, it gives just an "oh-shit" feeling, just so much urgency and desperation
All three of them have such different singing voices and styles and the combination of the three just makes me so happy and I don't even know how to like express what I'm feeling
Back to the thing about Dally always calling Johnny (and Pony, but we're emotional about Johnny here) "brother"
the music is just so fitting - I feel like I need to be up and moving every time I hear it, like if I ran ever this would be on the playlist 😂
And I'm going insane over the echoes of what has been previously been said - the "grease isn't given it's something you earn", and "let's leave this behind, let's just get up and go" like you're FORCED to face that they are being given what they want but in a really terrible way
Favourite line: "I hate to make you go, but there ain't no other way"
Justice for Tulsa
okay so I know that this is a really important song and everything, but I will admit this is the one I tend to skip most
I will say I think this song would hit harder if they kept with the themes of police brutality that there are in the novel and movie with regards to Dally's death (going off what I've heard about the script changes from people who have seen it, I can't verify myself)
The song feels very claustrophobic, with everyone just trying to blame everyone else, which I think is really well done. Especially with the multiple voices coming in with "you know just what you did"
And it does show the bias of the world trying to blame the Greasers just by reputation alone, which is thematically nice
and also just the kinda mob mentality of the whole thing, especially at the end, with a declaration of war
Favourite line: "or we could send them back a message, take an eye for an eye"
Death's at My Door
I think I've seen somewhere that this is the opening song for the second act and I just - fucking hell, what an opener 😂 they really just wanna destroy all of us, huh?
EDIT: I've been corrected, and it's Justice for Tulsa that starts act 2 - my bad guys, I don't know where I saw otherwise. JfT starting act 2 makes soo much more sense 😂
I wanted to like reach through my headphones somehow and hug Brody Grant, like holy shit
The first time I heard it all I could think about was how much he's going to blame himself when Johnny (and Dally) do die - especially with Johnny having comforted Pony about it
And I'm just emotional about the exploration of Pony thinking of himself as a burden on everyone he loves, especially going back to what Darry says to him in Runs in the Family reprise, just confirming everything that Pony already worries about himself
Favourite line: "I don't believe in the death that you're bringing - the reason I'm living is you"
Throwing in the Towel
I just love brothers okay? This song made me want to like message all my siblings and tell them I love them
I loved that we see Pony's inner thoughts and fears about being a burden on his brothers, immediately followed by seeing Darry's own thoughts and feelings - the two of them being so similar in how they blame themselves for everything
All three of the Curtis brothers being terrified of losing anyone else
AND THIS IS THE SODA CHARACTER REDEPTION I NEEDED - he becomes more than just the womaniser, you can see him having like actual thought and feelings, and the amount of emotion in Jason Schmidt's voice as he's trying to reassure Darry, like this song and Soda's letter gets across everything that makes Soda my favourite character
And there's something to be said about how they're finally like communicating their emotions 😂
Favourite line: "I know your head is full of doubt, but brother that's what love is all about"
Soda's Letter
Musical letters my beloved ❤️
I love songs like these - they're always just so vulnerable
It links to Tulsa '67 Reprise with the reference to how Soda kinda keeps the family all together. This song you can like see the strain that it has on him, trying to keep the brothers who he loves so much together, by trying to tell Pony that Darry does love him even though he shows it in a very different way
also anyone who has seen it and made it this far in the post can you tell me whether they keep in the bit about Pony reading this really heartfelt letter only to go "Soda's so dumb he can't fucking spell" because it's all I could think about when I listened to it for the first time
Favourite line: "Your brother needs you just as much as you need him, and brother we ain't doing to good alone"
Hoods Turned Heroes
The triumphant return of my beloved Two-Bit, and he's doing some king shit
I love him, okay?
This is another song where I know it's really important, but I actually don't have much to say about it, other than I do really enjoy it
Favourite line: "It's time to celebrate Greasers, take pride in the Greaser name"
Hopeless War
I love that it's just Cherry begging Pony not to change, and hoping that he's still an outsider of the Greasers like she is for the Socs, a hope that the two of them are still kindred spirits even after everything that happened
She knows that the rumble is gonna be where Pony loses that last bit of dreamer in him because he's holding just so much anger at the world - I dunno, there's something there I'm sure 😂
it's such a smooth transition into "Trouble" and I wanna SCREAM it's so good
Favourite line: "even if you win, it doesn't change a thing"
Trouble
It feels like a war chant or something
The music is just so agitated
It's like Run Run Brother where I feel the need to be up and moving
Favourite line: "Do it for Johnny, even the scores, time to rally the crew"
Little Brother
I get chills every time I listen to it
Something about Joshua Boone's voice guys, I don't even know like how someone goes about beginning to talk about it, but whoever takes over as Dally has got some big shoes to fill
It's a lament to Johnny, and I feel like I listen to it and I feel the same anger and indignation that Dally feels
It's a song where I listen to it and I know, even without having seen the production, how I'd stage it and that always makes me excited
The longer the song goes on, the more uneasy you feel listening to it
It links him and Darry together again, with how he blames himself for everything that happened to his little brother, he feels like he should have been able to protect Johnny, the way that Darry always tries to protect Ponyboy
The final tempo increase and the discordant violin at the end, and it feels like even just listening to it you're watching him fall into a grief-led madness, and his certainty that there's only one way that his story can end
Favourite line: "They can't take anymore from me - if I ain't got you, then I ain't got nothing else"
Stay Gold
It feels somehow criminal to put these songs next to each other, but I mean obviously they have to be - that's how they want you to feel, but it doesn't mean that I'm not mad about it
I've listened to it like a million times and it still brings me to tears every now and then
There's something about having the hopelessness of "Little Brother", with Dally bring so apologetic at having failed Johny, followed by Johnny asking Pony to tell him that there's still good in the world
Just how much everyone in this story needs each other and they don't realise that the others need them too, yknow?
Johnny being Dally's "gold" - a lot to say about that but yknow, this is already long as fuck
The simplicity of the music itself (same as with Soda's letter - makes them thematically the same blah blah blah with them both being letters and all that), but it makes the song much more vulnerable than some of the others - nothing for Sky Lakota-Lynch to hide behind
Also that line: "I have looked into a thankful father's eyes, telling me I've saved his daughters life", and how that links to what Johnny says in the book about the little girl's life being worth more than his - I dunno, it just got me emotional, okay?
Favourite line: "I hold on to the good 'cause I've made my peace with all the bad" and also "It's easy to forget when you're trying just to make it through"
Tulsa '67 Reprise
WE MADE IT BOYS (seriously though, for real, if you made it this far, thanks for reading through my descent into madness 😂 and please send your own thoughts and such, bc I'm desperate to hear other people's thoughts)
I said it at the beginning, but I think the reprise of this song makes the exposition at the beginning worth it
At the beginning we hear Ponyboy as a dreamer, and at the end he still has that, but rather than idolising and making everything spectacular, he sees beauty in the mundane - he sees it in his brothers, his friends, all of that
The call backs to the original song as well, which allow us to go back to the theme of looking at individuality - the Greasers wanting to be seen as more than just characatures, and by the end they are like fully-fleshed out people rather than just the basic stock figures we initially get them introduced as in Grease Got a Hold
The clearest examples are, of course, Darry and Soda
Darry goes from being "could have been a football star, people say he had a ticket out" to instead being "the toughest guy I've ever known"
Soda goes from "suffers from a broken heart" to "this family's life and soul"
and then it goes from "got no parents, we fend for ourselves" to "can you imagine how proud mum and dad would be"
just something so beautiful about that, I dunno
There's more I could say about the themes of brotherhood and individuality ("grease as their disguise", for example), but I'll spare it for now
Favourite line: "Just too damn good for growing old, and in his memory I stay gold"

The Drama. It's Jimin.

We don't know yet how Jimin will tie together that sheet of music La Lettra (The Letter), containing the music of The Truth Untold and the Legend of the Smeraldo flower in this album but he's named the album MUSE.
The Truth Untold lyrics
You know that I can’t Show you ME Give you ME I can’t show you my miserable self, so, yet again, I wear a mask and go to meet you But I still want you
A flower that looks like you bloomed in the garden of loneliness I wanted to give it to you after taking off this silly mask But I know that I can’t never ever do so
And the story it is based on, The legend of 'Smeraldo' about a flower created just for the girl the man couldn't reveal himself to.
Here is an excerpt from this link:
The man wanted to help the girl. He wanted to teach her every method of growing flowers he knew, he wanted to teach her how to grow beautiful flowers. But he couldn’t come forward to the girl. She would be scared of him, she wouldn’t love his grotesque appearance. In the end, the only thing he could do was to grow and take care of the flowers so she could keep coming to his garden.
The vibe of The Truth Untold is yearning, desperation, unfulfilled and unrequited love due to one's own inner turmoil holding them back.
The gist of the Legend of the Smeraldo is that you cannot remain withdrawn if you are to achieve the thing you desire most. If you wait too long it will be too late. You must overcome the negative perceptions of yourself in order to reach for the thing you desire.
"Muse" can mean what Jimin is to others and what Army is to Jimin, but Jimin's muse is most likely an element of his inner persona that he keeps to himself, that he draws on for his creativity.
It could also be the stage, the desire to visually express his creativity. I have heard music artists claim their muse or mistress is the stage, they cannot stay away from it, their passion, their obsession, their life's blood and breath to the point everything else is secondary.
The definition for the word muse is:
a person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist.
Muse is also related to Greek mythology. From wikipedia:
The Muses are the inspirational goddesses of literature, science, and the arts. They were considered the source of the knowledge embodied in the poetry, lyric songs, and myths that were related orally for centuries in ancient Greek culture.
Where have we seen this inspiration before in Jimin's creativity? I wrote about his Artemis/Apollo concept for his photo folio here.

I know too often Jimin is reduced down to his visuals and his singing...he is a walking melody-maker after all. But he's much deeper than that. He is well-read, he excels at math and science, he understands the human condition better than anyone else around him.
Perhaps in this project, he will explore something that expresses these concepts more deeply.

A field of flowers, not just any flower, a simple small white flower. Thousands of them. Do the flowers represent us?
I wonder what the blurred out center image of the album covers will reveal.
In his Sept. 1 live last year, among the things he spoke about (besides his Jungkookie's birthday) Jimin told us he was doing things differently, like starting from scratch.
During this live, commenters kept asking about his beat up knuckles and he said just wait and we will find out. He also showed us his workout room in his house.
He also showed us his solar system mood light casting images across the ceiling of his bedroom. He says he falls asleep with it on.
Yet he's an expert at talking to us for a great length of time without really telling us anything. Masterful in fact. He rarely reveals anything personal. We were astonished when he walked through his own home and showed us various rooms in it.
But he wasn't always like this. Whatever circumstances, whether it be outside forces or his own inner growth and maturity, he's changed over the years. He's an expert at hiding parts of himself and his life from us.
How difficult is it for any of us to be our REAL selves in front of anyone? How many of us hide the fact we are Army from our friends, family and co-workers? How many of us behave a certain way in certain situations in order to hide what we perceive are our weaknesses? How many of us are reluctant to speak out, even about frivolous things or dress a certain way or avoid wearing certain colors because what people might think or perceive about us?
Now imagine that you make your living by putting yourself on stage and in front of cameras for millions of prying eyes.
I do think Jimin loves the drama of it all, the mystique. I believe Jimin loves sensuality and provocation. And I think he loves creating visual expressions of all of it.
Many of us share the same inner muse but few of us possess the tools like Jimin does to express these inner musings outwardly. But if we did too, could we? Do we have the fortitude to put ourselves out there? Sure, it's easy to say "if I had a body like Jimin's I would walk around naked all the time." Would you really? Would you really invite the eyes to look and pry and critique? Would you welcome the amount of judgement that would take place? Because it never stops at just one thing. Offering yourself up invites judgement about everything, even things you don't have any control over, from the shape of your fingers to the tone of your voice.
Over the years, Jimin has shown how self-critical he is, constantly wanting to improve himself, always seeming determined to take it to the next level. Determined to show us another side of himself. Brave enough to keep revealing what he draws from his own muse.
MusE... blooming... ME
mUSe... serenade... US
Jimin's blooming and in this record, he will serenade us with his love. He really didn't want to leave us. Perhaps he felt he was just hitting his stride. I felt it.

Jakurai's A Majestic Figure
Title note: 4-kanji compounds are like the SAT vocab words of Japanese; they're not super common in everyday speech and can evoke a literary or sophisticated feeling. This one is...interesting. To the best of my knowledge, it isn't a standard compound (I'm also not getting any hits when I Google it) and I wonder if that's significant. It's just two words strung together to make the appearance of fanciness, perhaps. I couldn't say for certain. At any rate, both 威風 and (especially) 颯爽 describe a majestic, often captivating appearance. This isn't to say that such qualities of dignity or majesty aren't real, but I definitely feel like both terms are defining a subject from an outside perspective. These aren't terms I would ever expect someone to describe themselves with, which makes the song title sound like it's an outside observer commenting on Jakurai instead of Jakurai talking about himself. We see this happen a lot in Hypmic, with people putting Jakurai on pedestals or Jakurai struggling to see himself as the same grand figure others perceive him as. As a result, I wrote the song title as "A Majestic Figure" to emphasize the appearance of majesty, whereas the character of the figure is unknown. Anyway, let's dive in and see what this is all about.
(10 seconds in) Vibing with these instrumentals
(19 seconds in) Not vibing with these "ah"s... but we can't have everything in life
(43 seconds in) I'm a little too tired to fully keep up (I'll look up the lyrics when I'm done) but I REALLY like the urgency in the delivery, which is so at odds with the flowing, dignified background music. In JPN fiction as a whole, flusteredness/desperation is contrasted with calmness as a synonym for imperfection and perfection. Jakurai is, honestly, really kind of a desperate character...yet one that appears outwardly calm/perfect to most of the rest of the cast, so it's interesting that we get to see his desperate nature on full display right at the start of the song.

(End) Thank you uta-net for having the lyrics up already; ily. Let's see now... Interesting. I'll have to read them again in more depth later, but it looks like a call to forgive past wounds and seek out a better, less painful way of existence--in a societal sense, a religious (as in like, ascending or becoming enlightened) sense, and a personal sense. All great things to see Jakurai expressing. Again, it's interesting to see Jakurai expressing this with such urgency, even if these are things we know he really, really cares about. That coupled with the background music seems to match a bit in the lyrics that says "And [to end war within society, paraphrased] I take grand, dignified action mixed with the discord and noise of Shinjuku, a samsara spiral of cacophonous echoes." Mixing the stately and the chaotic, the "imperfect" and the "perfect." Really interesting stuff!
Hifumi's The Beginning of the Last Song
Title note: "Last Song" is English and written in katakana, which is a sharp contrast to the style of Jakurai's title. Creates a much younger and casual feel appropriate for Hifumi. Not much else to say here, so let's jump in.
(10 seconds in) Modern indie pop song on the radio feel. I'm not a fan of autotune in general so I'm not in love with this, but I'm hopeful it'll pick up soon.
(22 seconds in) I listen to so much "soft hiphop" (for lack of a better term) during work that my brain instantly catapulted itself into work mode and stopped paying any attention to the words. Coffee mug? Check. Emails? Check. Anxiety? Check. Let me rewind and listen to this properly.
(32 seconds in but for real this time) So far, very Hifumi. Opening verse has some fun figurative language but essentially says Hifumi's suit is pure courage he dons like a suit of armor. In doing so, it masks him and makes him become like a whole other person. From there, he switches to addressing a listener: "I want to soothe your mental wounds. I want to change your frown into a smile. I won't let go of your hands, and no, I'm not doing this for a reward." It's something that Hifumi should be saying to himself (something Hifumi wants to hear, maybe?) and yet he says "To [Host!]me, this is happiness."
(59 seconds in) Hmm... I was going to say this song feels sad to me, because all these positive messages of "Keep going! You're safe now!" are framed as being directed at other people, and I was like..."Hifumi, who's going to say that to you? Who's going to help you feel that way?" but then the line "You made me realize I'm not alone" radically flips the framing so that it DOES become things Hifumi is saying to himself, too. How nice. :) I would not want to translate this, personally... Haha it's using the vagueness of Japanese grammar and lyrical conventions to great effect, but I don't feel comfortable touching that personally.
(1:02) Hell yeah, belt that shit, homie
(1:32) So it's a last song in the sense that it's a farewell or the final song of his old self. Now he's the new, healing Hifumi. We love to see it 10/10 bravo. The song is also a happy, heartfelt thank you to the unspoken listeners (presumably Matenrou) who helped him feel less alone. That's cute! I like it. I probably shouldn't go here, but I find it intriguing how the vagueness of listeners is utilized. The first time the listeners are addressed, the language is...if not borderline romantic, pathos-filled to the point where it's definitely evocative of his host job (hence why he's not seeking compensation for handholding, an often romantic gesture). Yet it's borderline enough that it wouldn't be inappropriate to imagine it being addressed to Matenrou instead of his patrons. Hahaha. Again, another reason I don't want to go near this one.
(Overall) I like it! A nice ballad for Hifumi.
Doppo's Andante
(5 seconds in) For a song called Andante, this has a faster tempo than at least one other song on this album lol. But it's much less frenetic than Doppo's other solos, so there's that, I guess.
(7 seconds in) This delivery is giving me anime ending made by a 2010s rock band vibes lol.
(14 seconds in) Damn there's a baller line here that I'm stumped on how to convey in Eng in a way that's both baller and sensical. Meaning wise, it's like "I want to take back the things I shouldn't have said and give them as a present to you" and in figurative language it's like "Once, I used to fire words into the air [speak things in anger or carelessly]. Now, I want to gather them up [esp. like a bouquet of flowers] after their flight and use them to decorate you [again, like flowers or like a piece of jewelry--it's a positive connotation]" Pop off, Doppo
(40 seconds in) Oh this is killer and also going to need some major explaining. Doppo's name is literally "he who walks alone" which is usually considered a positive thing--someone who "walks the path of life" alone would have gotten there by outstripping the rest of the pack. In Doppo's case, though, this is a negative thing. I think it's not as obvious to Eng-only fans, and I know I didn't really think about it for a long time myself, but Doppo considers himself a "loser" bc he didn't follow a conventional life path. It's considered atypical to switch employers, especially very early on in one's career, as he did when he stood up for Hifumi and got himself fired at his first job. Part of why he puts up with shitty treatment at EL Medical is because it's one of the few places that would hire someone who switched employers at such a young age. (Sidebar: My (probably flawed, as I don't live in Japan) impression is that this is becoming less and less of a thing as time goes on and the economy goes to shit, but I think it's the self-stigma more than anything else that's affecting Doppo. To me, it feel similar to the societal pressures in the US to attend and graduate from a four-year college. Plenty of people don't for all sorts of reasons, but because that's so ingrained as the default life story for Americans in a lot of communities, Doppo's dealing with the kind of disappointment and self-hatred someone who dropped out before getting a four year degree might feel.) Doppo beats himself up about that a lot, but here we get that lovely line of "In the waves of people (hitonami) passing all around me, I no longer see anyone who looks like me. It's a shame, because I always wanted to be just like everyone else (hitonami)." Outside of that beautiful wordplay on hitonami, we're also treated to the figurative language of hitonami being literally "in line with others." Doppo, a character who walks through life alone, wanted to walk through life at the same pace/reaching the same milestones at the same time as everyone else.
(1:04 in) "Life is a tightrope act; it's like walking a balance beam [lit. "average beam" aka a beam where everything is averaged/balanced]. In a country where not everything can be average (narasarenai) and where even if the things that [I] can accomplish (narasareru) don't matter [in the eyes of society], sometimes the sounds I want to make don't come out right (narasarenai). When that happens, I can call myself pitiful--or I can feel the breathing of the beautiful flowerbed that is this city, and when someone's humming under their breath disturbs that short break [lit. breath], I ask them 'So, what is this happiness thing anyway?'" I would rather die than TL this song but I'm LOVING the creativity and depth of the lyrics.
(1:27) WILD! FUCKING! CHEERING!!! "You fake smiles in a mirror to make other people happy and call it love. It's a form of hypnosis, and I've made a go of falling under its spell because I just want to be equals [on par with, balanced], and so if you and I can walk these crowded streets together, then I think I don't mind as much that I'm always walking alone." THE GROWTH! THE GROWTH!!!!
Damn, this album's lyrics go hard. What a feast.
