He's QUICK to notice the signs when you're under distress, any slight change in your mood and he's on the case like Olivia Benson.

It's during times like these that he really clings to you and is an attentive partner because he's seen what the weight of stress can do to people close to him and he REFUSES to let them succumb to it if there's anything he can do to stop it.

He becomes so soft and vulnerable with you the moment he notices your eyes are a little too bloodshot

He turns into your therapist for the day and purposefully clears his schedule for the day so you can rant to him for as long or as little as you'd like. You can take it all the way back to drama from grade school if you wanted to and he'd listen genuinely to try and come up with solutions for you.

Nanami is a stressed out and overworked man in general so you would do your best to hide the fact that you’re stressed out to not add on to his stress, but Nanami isn’t falling for any of that “I’m okay, I swear (:” nonsense when it comes to you. He recognizes those bags underneath your eyes all too well. Not to mention that he can hear you typing away on your laptop and shifting around in bed checking your email at god forbidden hours of the night when you should be sleeping.

He moves in silence for real unlike the people who post those quotes on their IG stories, so you most likely wouldn't even notice that he knows how stressed and overworked you are. You should absolutely know better than to think you're tricking him, when this man gets partners he STUDIES them to a T!

You'll just come home from work and he'll have dinner already made for you along with special pastries that he prepared himself and a night of self-care prepped for you to complete; he's big on acts of service as a love language.

"But Nanami I have wo-" "You didn't ha-" AHT! He's not hearing that, he'll just gaze at you and then motion to the table with his head. You have no choice, this man is going to make sure you're stress-free for certain by the end of the night.

And yes, you are going to get a lecture on the importance of mental health and self care and no you cannot tell him about himself.

“Darling, why do you work yourself so hard when I can just take care of us?”

Mei Mei is a sugar momma and you can’t convince me otherwise. Half of that money she finesses out of others? Yeah, it’s going towards you and your expenses.

The first sign of distress and she’s sending gifts to your house that she knows will cheer you up. New shoes, a couple of new expensive outfits, some roses, etc, etc.

I also feel like she's a master baecation planner too, so don't be surprised when she sends you that "pack your bags" text at 8pm and the next thing you know you're in Aspen skiing with socialites.

Though, depending on how much she likes you and values you this could be a good or bad thing. If she's not really vibing you like that but thinks you're cute enough to keep around then she's doing all of this just to get you to shut up about ranting to her.

"Stress is just a mindset and one that causes wrinkles so knock that off."

BUT, if she reaaaaallllyy likes you then these are genuinely just the perks that come with having Mei Mei as a girlfriend. Best believe she'll find a moment in the midst of spoiling you when you two are alone to get to the bottom of your stress and help you figure it out.

TOJI FUSHIGURO

He don't give a FAWK what you got going on baby !

I'm just playing yall, he cares but because he's emotionally unavailable its very hard to tell that he cares sometimes.

Hit him with a "I've just been so stressed lately" and he'll hit you with a "So stop stressing 😐" he means well I promise.

It's when he sees it take a toll on your mental health that he gets concerned, or as concerned as someone like Toji can be. Once he notices the fatigue, lack of eating, and dark eye circles his protection instincts kick in. As someone who's traveled into the deepest and darkest parts of his mind, the last thing he wants is for someone he cares about to end up in a place like that because he knows how it feels.

Just like Mei Mei, his acts of service and the amount of support he gives you depends on how far along and serious you two are as a couple.

If you're casual he'll just give you verbal reminders like; "Don't you think you need a break?" "Go eat you look like a witch" "I would suggest a nap to help with those dark circles." He's apart of that sassy man apocalypse we're.

BUT, if you two are locked in then he'll go out his way a lot more to make sure you're comfortable like buying you comfort food, watching a movie or two with you, and fucking to keep your mind off of it.

He'll physically take your work laptop away from you and put it on a high shelf purposefully so you won't be able to reach it. Your job keeps calling you in on your off days? He'll pickup the phone next time and let them know the Toji way why you can't come in. Boss irritating you over a project? Don't let toji see him in person or get ahold of any office numbers!

The In-Depth Look at Julie-Su Part 7: Knuckles #24-28

The cover for issue 24 is a accurate portrayal of Julie's role in the issue. She hangs upside down then there's a explosion that frees her. There's a big plot hole due to the fact that when Knuckles & Julie-Su were kidnapped in issue 23 they were with the Chaotix. The Chaotix do not show up in issue 24 at all. They were just forgotten about again. Sigh.

Issue 25 takes place right after the events of the previous issue with Knuckles examining some robot head left over from the Dark Legion Headquarters.

Another plot hole I remembered while looking at this scene again is that Julie-Su has already met Knuckles's Dad back in issue 22. But according to this scene it seems like Knuckles didn't even know his dad was alive. Didn't Julie tell him? At all? It seems like a very important thing that she should have told him about.

Speaking of forgetting Knuckles leaves Julie behind. He doesn't rush back to tell her that something came up and they'll meet up later. He doesn't even bother to leave a note. Just walks away as if to say she's not of any importance to him overall. It's kind of similar to how Penders himself has treated Julie over various issues.

Needless to say she's enraged and I don't blame her one bit.

Issue 26 features Julie-Su on the cover drawn by Manny Galan. He does not draw the main story but the back up story instead for the next three issues.

The issue starts with Julie-Su still very angry at Knuckles for leaving her behind. (The editor's note on this two page spread explains what happened last issue.)

I went to look up to see if Julie's brown pouch with a strap was a actual product and it is.

Maybe it's just me but if Julie really wants to not think about Knuckles for a while perhaps walking into a city full of Knuckles knockoffs won't help.

Speaking of here's a Knuckles variant with a ugly green belt.

Ugghhh that summer hat does not go with her outfit at all. The colors clash too much. I would have picked this hat instead.

Awkward!

Onto to the back up someone who will become a important character in Ian Flynn's run reappears. She was last seen way back in 1995.

It's a little surprising that a character with such in a significant role in the main Archie Sonic comic emerged from a Knuckles back up story. Along with Julie-Su I miss Fiona so much.

A stealth type Knuckles certainly isn't.

Looks like the setup for a stage play production with that lighting and color choice.

End of issue 27. Issue 28 starts up with Lara-Le visiting Julie first thing in the morning.

I'm not going to lie in the summer when it's extremely hot & humid during the night I'll also wear a very long pajama shirt that goes past my knees. It's much more comfortable then wearing short shorts. Although it doesn't make sense that she's still wearing her gloves.

Lara-Le with miscolored red hair makes her look way to similar to Lien-Da in my opinion.

After their talk Julie-Su gets ready for her date with Knuckles. But what he doesn't know is that she's actually preparing to take him to a surprise birthday party.

The next scene would have made me so happy if it wasn't drawn the way it was. I remember back in the day fan artists redrawing this exact scene because while the idea behind it is sound the execution is not.

It looks like he's trying to eat her face. Nom nom nom.

Meet Whoever's In My Head #3: Austin Shinsuke

I liked my drawing from the other dump too much, so I just made a copy, isolated him and finished it up.

Backstory

I don't remember an exact moment where Austin became separate from me, but I know that there was always some part of me that acted a little extra grown-up than the others. And I guess after whatever led me to develop differently, it grew into him.

He's a caretaker, one of two significant ones. A lot about Austin came from traits I found grown-up and impressive, such as height and glasses. Most of the time, he's either in turtlenecks or a loose outfit with the big sleeves that's almost like a choirboy or some other church person. The scarf is also there almost all the time.

Although I think of him as older, it's a childish sense of older, like the things I'd note set Mari and Hero apart from my friends in the same grade. He doesn't actually know much more than me about things.

Austin always excelled in trying to fix my messes. He's very anxious and finds it hard to talk, especially as he largely wanted me to present as normal most of the time (though he was gentle with the rest of us and would tell us that if it hurts us to hide we should find a compromise). When he'd be in control, he'd do things like tidy up, check on my friends if I hadn't talked to them in a while, read, do homework, and ask for help if we needed it (like in math). He's kind of a team with another presence of mine, coming in after the big feelings (like tantrums or panic attacks) or just before them to try and mitigate them. He's also very much involved with engaging with Haru, and is to him a little like Mari was to me.

He was really helpful to me and important, especially when I'd feel helpless or disconnected, but I did find him a little annoying sometimes as he'd start listing everything I could have done to avoid a bad outcome or finding solutions when I just want comfort. But he's comfortable, and nice, and knows when he's gone too far or listens if I can't take it right now.

Austin also really likes puzzles and mystery books, and he's the best gamer. He keeps trying to get the rest of us to start a more private journal to keep myself oriented, though I rarely have blackouts during important times these days (right now Austin is telling me that therapy counts as "important times", hah).

Design

He's grown-up and black and white as the rest of us, but has soft edges. Most other design choices are in the above. His eyes and Haru's are also different from the others as I used to draw them differently and they're the older ones.

His name in English and Japanese is both new. I let him pick a name and he did a bit of reading and came back with it. Though Austin's mostly happy to present as Sunny to help not confuse people.

6. Venue - Where is the ceremony and/or reception? Inside? Outside?

I think a cave that has an opening to the heavens or a disused temple, so it’s a bit craggy and ruinous but you can see the sky, there’s vines growing down the walls and moss covering the floor. Basically, while they were wandering around Rosymorn Monastery, Lilith was like ‘Hm, this would be a nice place for a wedding. Once you clean up the skeletons.’ The celestial sky seems to be an important thing and I think it’s something Lilith would really love about Gale, given how important night was to her and the moonlight was the only real source of beauty and comfort when she was younger. 

9. Decor - What kind of notable decor is there at the venue? Do they have something like an arch, a carpet aisle, fairy lights in the trees, or other elaborate decorations? Did they choose to decorate at all?

Stars baby! In the form of those paper lantern ones and gold ornaments hanging from the roof. There’s also dark blue curtains hanging down the walls and lots of taper candles on the tables. I imagine Lilith went for some jewel tones with the flowers too, so lots of deep burgundy red roses. So it’s basically a little galaxy in a room. 

13. Outfits - What is the married couple going to wear? Is there special significance in the outfit choices, colors, jewelry, etc?

So Gale would wear purple, but I think it’s embroidered with silver rather than gold and I feel like Lilith would buy him a new cape and embroider it herself with lots of meaningful symbols on it for both of them, stars, moons, a tiny tressym, books. Gale is in love and loves the cape. For Lilith, I’m thinking a navy dress covered with gold stars that is backless, but it comes with a long gossamer cape and sleeves. She’s a tiefling with purple skin, so she likes wearing black and navy to really stand out. She has long, black wavy hair, so she’d wear it down with little silver and gold stars and moon hair pins decorating it. She had discarded most of her jewellery a long time ago because it was gift no longer wanted and it felt like blood money. Yes, she’s an assassin with honour, what of it? So she wears a simple silver and onyx necklace that Gale gave her. Either way, they both look beautiful.

a/n: lmk if you want me to turn this into an actual fic!! I enjoyed writing this little excerpt so if you want, I can spice my profile up and actually write this idea out!!

“This isn’t going to hurt me, you know?”

“Oh yeah?”

He stopped clutching the golden cross dangling from around his neck, building the perfect contrast to the crimson of his leather clad suit. The irony of the Devil’s horns paired with the religious piece of jewelry went straight past him, but never past the woman standing right before him on the steps of the small, abandoned chapel in the heart of New York City.

“Aren’t vampires supposed to burn at the sight of a crucifix?” He realized that burn might have been too strong of a word. “…or something equally as dramatic?” he added, the hint of a dark smirk gone lost in his voice.

She chuckled. The sound bounced off the high walls decorated with poison ivy and cobwebs, and the cracks in the stone were prove of the significant age of the catholic landmark. “That’s what humans like to believe,” she said. “In your pretty little heads it goes something like this: If the sight of Jesus on a cross can make the undead shake in their boots, God must surely be stronger than the evil lurking in the dark. I would know, I used to be like you once. A long time ago. But no, that’s actually a common misconception. The only emotion this crucifix elicits in me is pure, unbridled rage.”

“And you really think I’d believe that?”

“I would say take a look in the mirror, but,” she clicked her tongue, “I don’t think you are going to see anything. Not because the mirror would be empty but because you can’t see. That’s important to clarify.”

He chuckled. “Okay, I get it. You also have a reflection. You know, you could tell me anything you want, that still doesn’t make me believe you.”

“You don’t have a choice though.”

“Oh, I do. I always have a choice.”

“What, you want to throw garlic at me next?” The silence told her that he played with the thought. “Sweetie,” she cooed, condescension in its rawest form, “That’s not even going to leave a rash. Don’t like the smell or the taste, but then again, I do not require sustenance, so nobody cares that I don’t like garlic on my food.”

“So, no fear of crucifixes, no allergy to garlic and you have a reflection. Is anything they teach us about vampires real?”

“Fair question, but no. No matter how badly you want those myths to be reality, they’re just myths. Stories. Retellings. Children of the human imagination.”

“Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”

“Classic literature without meaning,” she said. “But it’s a good book, nonetheless.” He could hear the smile on her voice, which was about the only thing about her that was audible to his ears.

There was something terrifying about acknowledging the existence of vampires. They were dead, abominations, creation of Satan – vampires were unnatural, born from the deepest, darkest pits of hell.

Her lack of bodily functions made it almost impossible for him to anticipate her behavior and it had him right on the precipice bothering on insanity.

“You’re very educated, Matthew. I’m impressed. I like that I can talk to you on an intellectual level, although that outfit of yours is a disgrace hiding behind my favorite color.”

“Why,” he asked, “because blood is red?”

“Perhaps, or maybe it’s just because red looks good on almost everyone.”

He scoffed.

“Dear Matthew, I know I’m currently breaking your mind, but fear not! I don’t want to kill or eat you,” she said. “Not your blood anyway.” Her eyes trailed over his body. Needy they were. Aroused, even.

He caught up on it. The longing glance, the lick of her lips, letting the saliva drip from her tongue to her bottom lip. He didn’t need to see to imagine her wild eyes undressing him.

“What do you want?” he asked. The last thing he wanted was for her to get the wrong idea.

But that dangerous woman already had the wrong idea. In her head, it was the right one. An attractive man entering her temporary stay… she would be the last person to say no to that.

“Nothing,” she stated. “I don’t have an ulterior motive. I know you want to have a reason to hate me other than the fact that I stand against everything your little catholic heart stands for, but I can’t offer you that.”

He scoffed. “Yeah, right.”

“Myths, novels, folklore and everything else that even remotely borders on fantasy is something that feeds your human brain with things you understand. You want to believe what you know to be true in order to justify my untimely death if you were to drive a stake through my heart or something equally as dramatic. That way, you wouldn’t have to feel guilty for murdering me, but since you can probably tell that there is a faint heartbeat in my chest, it’d still be murder.”

“Untimely?” he scoffed. “I doubt that a vampire’s death could ever be untimely.”

“Three and a half centuries is actually pretty early for my species. Equals about the age of twenty in human years.”

“I don’t understand,” he expressed, desperate and he looked so small then, standing below her.

“My advice,” she said, taking a step down from her pedestal, “delete everything you think you know about vampires from lore or mythology and start making up your own mind.“

“Why?”

“Ask yourself this instead, why not? Why believe anything you can’t prove to be either false or true just because you have a gut feeling, or your world views are different? Isn’t that called prejudice?”

“Prejudice?”

“Yes. I know big words too, Matthew. I mean, I am very old.” Her smirk told him she took this anything but seriously. “Well, you are catholic,” she said. “Catholics thrive off of prejudice.”

Matt shook his head. “You have no right to judge me.”

“I’m not judging you. I’m simply telling you to open up your mind to the possibility that there might be actually a power that’s even stronger than God. Just the possibility. Consider that. Rethink the world, rethink your religion, even. Rethink everything and reconsider what’s really important. Once you’ve done that, come back and have tea with me. If we’re still not on the same page then, you may drive that stake through my heart after all. I know you want to. God knows you want to. The only person who doesn’t know,” she said, tilting her head to the side as if she was talking cutely to a child, “is you, Matthew.”

“Deal,” he spoke before his brain even got the chance to think about it. “But don’t think for a moment that you’re in control of me. I can make my own decisions, and if I end up deciding to get rid of you, that’s my choice too.”

The vampire shrugged. “That’s fine by me. I do not fear death in the way you humans do.”

“Oh, sweetheart,” he chuckled breathlessly, “When I’m done with you, you’re gonna wish I’d been so merciful as to kill you.”

“Feisty, I like it,” she said, a smirk dancing on her lips in a heated salsa. “I look forward to talking to you again, Matthew.”

Her heels sounded faintly against the stone floor as she disappeared into the darkness of the abandoned church walls.

“You’re going to sleep in your coffin now?” he couldn’t help but toss after her.

The sweet sound of her usually so dooming laugh filled his ears. “Bed, actually,” she said, not even raising her voice from wherever she stood to stop and listen to him. “Coffins are so eighty-seven.”

Matt shook his head. He had always feared the creatures of the night, like the sisters at the orphanage told him to, and the priests at church always taught God’s disciples to be weary of Satan because Lucifer hides behind the most beautiful faces. The snake lurks in the dark and every person, male of female, represents Eve in the Garden of Eden, submissive to the silver tongue of the devil. That’s why you have to be on the lookout, they told them. He’s in people you don’t expect, and the creatures of the night wait for you to let them in so they can corrupt you.

Somehow though, this one was different. She was much different from what he expected and somehow, that intrigued him more than it scared him. She could have killed him but she didn’t. She could have eaten him but she didn’t. She had the opportunity, yet she chose not to.

He left the church instead of following his instincts to trap her and lock her away. He left and he decided to rethink everything, like she told him to.

I'm having an interestingly hard time getting started with this and I wonder whether that's a little bit to do with the fact that Princess Marina [Hyde] hates Guy Richie soooo much and is soooo disparaging about him on The Rest is Entertainment?

So, rushing to get to the <3 of the matter: We watched TMOUW on the first day it was released and found it... stunningly boring for a movie that involved so much gunfire and so many things blowing up.

Our immediate reaction was: SAS Rogue Heroes did it (much) better.

Then, this week we watched it again and it... had got better? It hadn't, naturally, changed at all, but we enjoyed it considerably more on the second viewing. I guess that's because we'd adjusted for all the things we knew it wasn't going to be and that left more space just to enjoy the structure and delivery of the story on its own terms.

I also had headspace to notice that the first third of the movie was IMO focused, purposeful and pacey and Worked Really Well. There was a pre-credits cold open action sequence that I found genuinely gripping, then a well-positioned, not overly long recap ("I guess you're wondering how we got here..."), and into another obnoxious, against-all-odds, enjoyable-on-its-own-terms, action sequence, this time the storming of a prison camp to complete the crew.

All much more impressive and high octane and unlikely than the real story where the members of what would become SOE (Special Operations Executive) were notably less impervious to bullets.

In the cold light of day, I'd mutter something about the real missions of SOE were quite dangerous and adrenaline-fuelled and didn't necessarily need to be 'sexed up' but horses/courses, genre choices.

Side note - one of many reasons we expected to be the perfect audience for this movie was S's abiding interest in all things WW2 and with particular interest in the exploits of the SOE.
