i will start by introducing my cat, tomato first since she’s the real star here, obviously 🙄.

Tomato showed up after my beloved mother passed away. i found her living under my shed infront of my home and i decided what better way to cope than to make a new friend, and so i did. heres a picture of our first introduction;

as you can see, tomato and me have became best friends since we have met eachother, now im going to give you the whole backstory of how me and her became best friends.

it all started the week of November 13, 2023. my beloved mother had just passed away and there was a kitty hanging around our shed for months prior, so i decided what better way to cope than to make a new friend! and so i did! i started by leaving food and water for her and i took a picture and posted her on my local fb group to see if she belonged to anybody, to my surprise, this very sweet and loving cat had no home. she was also really tiny when i met her. A lady reached out and helped me get her up to date with shots and spayed, so they tipped her ear. I also found 2 more kitties but i let my roommates claim them. ever since Tomato moved in, me and her have been best friends. She loves to watch me play games on my PC, and sleep on my bed, she evem meows at me when she sees me grabbing my shoes coat and purse, and she meows when i come home and doesnt hesitate to jump into my arm for me to hug her, and she loves tight hugs! everyone of my friends loves her and its just because she’s so sweet amd affectionate and she really helped me cope with my mothers passing, and she came in my life at the perfect time. I hope you guys love tomato just as much as i do as she is truly so so special to me. she evem has her own theme song she replies to (classified information)!!

i only just start really getting into anime last month after my fiance showed me Erased, it reminded me alot about life is strange and i thought the story was amazing. Im also really into SAO but trust me i look over the weebish parts in the first one (if you seen the first SAO you know what im talking about), I also just recently finished death note.

-Kazutora one time scammed Baji in Meep City by offering a “legendary for legendary'' trust trade and Baji ended up getting temporarily banned from ROblox text and voice chat for the things he was screeching.

-Mikey and Draken don’t play Roblox (Draken will if Emma wants him to though). They’re probably on Val or something. Mikey blows up team/party voice chat literally the entire match while Draken only says one thing; “gg” at the end of the game LMAO

-Kazutora, Baji, and Chifuyu have a Minecraft server and the stuff that goes on in that server should not be spoken of, but can be summed up with one event; the piston dungeon.

-one time, Mikey spent the night at Baji’s house and had access to his PC. Mikey got on the BajiTrio server and blew up Kazutora’s house and that’s when all the beef started. (Shinichiro is alive and well in this universe!!)

-Mitsuya doesn’t game much, but when he does it’s because Luna and Mana want to play. Accordingly, he’s goated at games like Fashion Famous (pro model) and is pretty popular in any Royale High server he joins LMAO

-Hanma plays CSGO. And he’s reaaaal toxic on the game LMAO. Can see him 100% being one of those “drama” YouTubers who talk shit online while playing various video games. (Think Old Leafy or some shit.)

-Smiley and Angry are an inseparable Fortnite duo. Angry is overly nice and courteous, often handing off his really good weapons to his teammates when they ask for them, while Smiley is literally being toxic the ENTIRE time. Think of him saying stuff like, “Dude, you’re so ass.”, “Imagine whiffing every shot LMAOOOO”, and “BROOOOOOOOOO we lost because you suck!” at every given moment of a match. Accordingly, not a lot of people play with them so they usually fuck around in duos.

-Shinichiro grew up on OG Nintendo and struggles to really understand newer games because he stopped playing when school + work got busy for him so he didn’t have much time. He tries his best though when Mikey wants to play games with him, even if his best is pretty mid.

-Yuzuha and Hakkai play a lot of open-world RPGs, like Zelda, Genshin, and Star Rail. They especially like Genshin because they can play together. Hakkai mains Yelan and freezes up literally every time she says one of her voice lines. But Yuzuha is really into Yae Miko (or really any electro woman.)

-Emma mainly plays cute mobile games like Love:nikki, Hello Kitty World, or Happy Camper. She likes being able to make cute outfits/sets. She got a Switch so she could play Minecraft and ACNH, but she got into these games because of the PE edition and Happy Camper.

-Emma actually recommended ACNH to Mikey, who ended up getting addicted during COVID and literally could not peel himself away from his Switch for the entirety of Quarantine. But was he simply docile while playing? No, of course not. He was insanely aggressive with Tom Nook.

-Mikey actually forced Mitsuya to make Toman jackets in Animal Crossing. (Mitsuya also made all the boys’ MC skins.)

Completely unrelated, but I’ve had the random urge to play animal crossing all week. And I’ve felt this weird connection to Isabelle. Strange. /s

i definitely think they have all their dreamies!!! dustin absolutely makes his own amiibos so i think he helps everyone get who they want. i also think he gets involved in a lot of discords and treasure islands so even for the 8 new villagers that didn’t have amiibos at the time, he def had a billion nmt and was very lucky with villager hunting lol. in terms of who their dreamies aaarrrrreeee…

mike: lucky, ankha, wolfgang!! i think those are the only 3 he super cares about and likes to have a rotation + enjoys villager hunting. he just vibes with whoever and isn’t super picky but i think he’s attached to the 3 i picked because he had them in new leaf and they’re his Friends.

will: ruby, coco, sasha, gaston, teddy!! i know that him being bunny coded is affecting my vision but i’m correct. he lovvveeeesss bunnies and i think he’d love ruby and coco so much bc they’re cute but also a little creepy looking so he’d feel bad for them. and i think gaston is so silly looking that he is obsessed with him. teddy is bc he reminds will of a real life walter :)

max: agent s, hazel, keaton, katt, bob!! quite a few but she’s definitely super picky. i think she hardcore judges villagers for being ugly but has also decided some “ugly” ones are so ugly they’re cute (hazel and katt) and they are her ride or die’s. she didn’t seek them out they sought Her and she vibes. definitely hits villagers she hates with a net and sends them hate mail even though that increases friendship with them lol. hates sheep villagers.

el: dotty, audie, pekoe, beardo, greta, scoot, tia, faith, dobie, papi!! obviously a full list but she went through and made sure she had one of each personality type and doubled up on her fave types (normal and peppy). she is def into aesthetics but also thinks some of them are funny!! like scoot with his hat and beardo (who reminds her of hop)

lucas: benjamin, lucky, daisy, butch, shep, cherry! truthfully i think he loves dogs and would have a whole dog island. the ones listed are his absolute faves and the other spots he kind of just rotates as necessary until he finds a personality combo that he likes!!

dustin: raymond, marshal, shino, sherb, zucker, merengue, julian, judy, roald, pietro!! sorry that he is the way he is. he sells villagers on the black market and then just puts them back in his town. it’s not my fault (it is).

2 me they all share a nintendo switch online family plan, so they all technically have hhd! i think mike, dustin, and el are the only ones who actually really play it tho. el tells will he would love it and will doesn’t listen but he might suddenly have another interest in acnh and specifically hhd starting in september 2023. who knows. (i know.)

I don't think RPGs have anything to do with stats.

I think an RPG, or whether or not a game counts as one, is more about how you can affect it's world or environment beyond just winning or losing.

Like, Skyrim and space Skyrim, for example,are not RPGs. They are a very shoddily made, medieval & sci-fi themed amusement parks.

But neither are any Final Fantasy games, Legend of Zelda games, Shadow of Mordor, the Assassin's Creed series, Genshin Impact, God of War (any of them, even the new ones), Kingdom Hearts (any of them), Diablo, Transistor, or any Pokemon games. These are lovingly crafted roller coasters with various themes, with different additional genres of games therein, unlike most Bethesda games, but not roleplaying games. They're gripping movies, comics, art exhibits, and dioramas with well done and utilitarian world-building.

Or visual novels. And that's not me disparaging these games, just hopefully pushing our evolving language for discussing games in a better direction?

I guess the next question is probably- "What is an RPG by your call then?"

I'd say games like the original Deus Ex, Stardew Valley, Fallout 1&2, Undertale, Pathologic, literally every single Animal Crossing game, Pathfinder/DnD (if your DM has a stable sleep schedule), and Shadow the Hedgehog.

The difference between these two groups is:

group A: Interactive media (games) that are stories, or Games(under the cut), with worlds that only exist to tell their stories or for the player's convenience.

group B: Interactive media that is a world the player is encouraged to interact with as a consistent Character within, or where the player's avatar & actions exists as a character within the world and not just an artifice of design or play.

There is nothing you can do on Final Fantasy VII's Gaea that will impact any part of the rest of the world, besides succeed at a given challenge or die and have another go. Nor in X, IX, or VIII. Locking a world's keyhole in Kingdom Hearts 1 doesn't change the game's state it's the next part of the story and the success state that follows defeating most level's final bosses (or after figuring out a clever puzzle in Traverse Town). Riku can't fail to save Sora at the end of Kingdom Hearts II, you fail to rescue Riku's man, and the game lets you try again until you catch up with canon. Transistor does not care whether you collect certain programs/citizens, the Process [REDACTED] no matter what. Zelda can't not be rescued in any of the series' games where she appears; there are no ways to save the land of Termina except by assisting its citizens in a very specific order. In Pokemon, Team Rocket cannot successfully kidnapp someone's Pokemon on screen, and Team Aqua cannot successfully flood the world.

But in Shadow the Hedgehog; the president can be spared and his life determines how the rest of the game's story plays out; you can steadily work to destroy the world with the Black Arms and feel the progress of the invasion as you complete more of their missions. In Pathologic, failing to cure a patient doesn't send you to a game over screen, the patient just dies. Sometimes your patient is important to you and their death will have disastrous consequences, sometimes not. In ACNH, everything you can do changes the game's state in a meaningful way, there are almost literally no meaningless actions you can take in that game (or any animal crossing game). In a solid Pathfinder/DnD game, unless your party fights and dies to the last man, failing to kill the Lich or Evil king means that they get to take over that town or city. Some tables don't even run TPKs back, that specific world just gets worse and you either abandon it to its fate or have to make new avatars to re-enter a world that's likely grown more hostile because of the failure. In the original Fallouts, the only real "game over" fail state in those games is dying. Everything else is simply a choice to make, or a consequence to avoid. Likewise in the original Deus Ex, JC Denton's actions decide whether the [REDACTED it's old but go play the game] play out as planned, whether [seriously go play it] live or if the [please, you won't regret it] get their way. Each potential reality in these games, doesn't meaning you just lose, but that you now have to account for new circumstances in the world of your own making.

I don't think a game doesn't become an RPG because it has stats, or levels. Those are just conventions of the media of games as a whole. A game is more or less of an RPG based on how internally consistent and independent of the player its world is. I think our language should reflect that that too, but considering that this genre of game comes from the original pen and paper RPGs, I don't like giving the most faithful successors to their heritage a name that doesn't include the words RPG in it. I'd rather call the first group of games "Immersive Movies" and give the term "RPG" back to the second group. But if we must call both groups kinds of RPGs, I want to suggest replacing WRPG vs JRPG, with RPGs vs "VRPGs" or Virtual Ride Playing Games (or Vibe Role Playing Games), seeing as the first group is more akin to a book/movie/play/amusement park ride that you read or ride through than they are games where you meaningfully play the role of a character.

If that makes sense? Replies/rb as are welcome as comments, I had the thought on stream and I've spent all day working to make it more coherent than the babbling that usually rattles around in my brain, but I couldn't make it any shorter than this. So idk, let me know what you think. I'm eager to hear from other devs, or just players for that matter.

Also, I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH, this isn't me shitting on any game I've mentioned except for Skyrim and space Skyrim. I'm not using RPG as a title of prestige, or saying any of these games are worse than the others except for Skyrim; I'm only saying we should probably re categorize them. Roller coasters are good things when they're well made.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs – Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Analyzing how the game can be interpreted:

Physiological Needs:

In ACNH, you are immediately provided with a tent that includes a bed as shelter and rest. You can upgrade your shelter by purchasing a house and continuously playing off your loans to upgrade your house. Although it is not an absolute necessity, the player can eat food in the game, which increases their strength to complete tasks like cutting wood from trees. If the player has a toilet, they can also use it to dispose of said food. The player is always provided clothing to start with and can purchase clothing for themselves. They can use their bed to sleep.

Safety and Security:

The player can be stung by wasps, and their face will be inflamed. However, it is possible to both craft and purchase medicine. If villagers on the island get sick, the player can also give them medicine. The player always has a job on the island because they have to take care of villagers’ needs and customize the island, including terraforming. 

Love and Belonging:

An integral part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is having a sense of community. The player can have up to 10 villagers on their island to talk to, give gifts to, invite to their house, and visit in their homes. Villagers will actively come up to the player and interact with them. The player can also visit other player’s islands, invite others to their island, and add other players to a friend list. There are always avenues for the player not to feel alone. The villagers also have varying personalities. When it is the player’s birthday, the villagers set up a party to celebrate, which is a nice touch. 

Self-Esteem:

There are several methods for the player to feel a sense of achievement, but I believe the most obvious one is the ability for the player to catch fish, bugs, and sea creatures, as well as collecting fossils. They can fill up their collection and ,granted they do not time skip, this will occur based on the season and time of day. The player can gaze at their achievements by contributing to the museum, and seeing everything they collected on display. It is a great addition to the island, both aesthetically and for the player to feel proud. Villagers and other players can also enjoy the museum. 

Self-Actualization:

Personally, I believe self-actualization is when the player no longer plays ACNH with a particular goal, but simply because it makes them feel good. It is the type of game where you can just spend time exploring, customizing the island, creating designs, visiting others, etc. even after the initial goal of the game (getting KK Slider to visit the island) has been reached. When a player is content with the state of their island and plays the game just for fun and to feel relaxed, that is self-actualization. 

2. How the game mechanics can be modified

Overall, I believe Animal Crossing: New Horizons already fulfills Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs because of the nature of the game as an easy-going, daily life simulator. However, a feature that could be added to improve this could be the addition of other, perhaps smaller islands, instead of the player only having just one. That way, the player can experiment with different aesthetics, maybe have a different ‘holiday’ island for each seasonal event, without having to drastically change their entire island when they want a change.

Mine is either Bonbon or Frita, Bonbon was one of the 3 villagers that you get near the beginning of acnh (shes one of the main things stopping me from resetting my save augh) and frita i got from an amiibo card but before acnh came out my fav from new leaf was Poncho hands down. Not sure why tho tbh i just liked him :>

Mine's probably a hard tie between Spork, Rodney, Savannah, and Hans!!

Spork and Hans were part of the First 3 villagers to move into my island besides the starting Jock and Sisterly (mine were Muffy and Poncho 🙏) and Spork was just- RAHHH he had my heart immediately, I love how goofy and silly he is, made sure he had the nicest plot 🥰 Hans was also an immediate like from me, he was always so friendly and running up to talk to me and visiting my house :D

Savannah moved in a while later, and she was kind of the same as Hans ^-^ I accidentally let her move out (wrong button pressed-) and I literally went to Nookazon and spent like, an entire day trying to get Petri to move out so that I could buy back Savannah and get her to my island hjgfss.

(Side note but Nookazon is so friendly when I use it, love using it to sell stuff I don't need / rare events like shooting star nights ^-^)

Rodney...? I could not tell you a single reason why I like him, he just has the vibes that made me like him, devastated when I found out people hate him 💔💔

Because of the headmaster's poor excuse of a joke, he ended up as some trusty herbivore for a radish sprout that looked like he'd pass out if Leona got too close. What a joke! All he wanted to do right now is go to the botanical garden and-

Hm. He's got a little issue. Idia's little sprout brother stood between him and the botanical garden doors and, by the looks of it, Ortho wouldn't let him pass by so easily.

"Aha! There you are, Leona Kingscholar!" Ortho hovered over to him, displaying a rather cheerful expression, "Niisan has given me a request to go find you, so here I am! Will you spare us a moment of your time? I promise it'll be worth your while!"

Leona didn't want to go and see what Idia was up to, but if it was for that yule thing he probably had to, "Why does he want to see me?"

"He wants to show you a super cool mount he made to make Yuletide a little easier for you two to navigate."

"Alright, fine." Leona stepped aside for the little guy to show the way, "Lead us there."

"Roger!"

Leona followed Ortho for a long while, leaving the botanical garden and his morning plans far behind him. They walked past the school and several dozen trees, finally arriving at some discreet clearing far away from campus. A rather large sleigh sat in the middle of the clearing, filled to the brim with a generous amount of gifts and a single radish sprout.

"Oi, radish sprout." Shouted Leona as he walked closer, the sleigh seemed surprisingly new, "What's all this about?"

"O-Oh Leona..!" Idia fumbled with his tablet for a brief moment before holding it in front of him, letting the device do all the talking, "Fuhihihi! Welcome, my trusty reindeer, to the most exciting event of your week! Do you like my sleigh?"

"It's… nice. I don't have to pull it around, do I?"

"Sevens, no! We're not going to do something so cringe! We're in the future, Leona, we have no need to use such a slow method of transport. Instead, I got us a mount that…" Idia pointed dramatically into the air, "Can fly!"

"Fly? Really?" Leona leaned against the sleigh, "You made a sleigh that could fly in two days?"

"It's easy to do, I just didn't sleep. Ezpz." Idia seemed pretty smug about his terrible sleep schedule, "Anyway, do you know how to properly drive a flying car? It's easy if you don't know, I can teach you the basics in under an hour."

Unexpectedly, driving around in a flying car with Idia and Ortho is… fun. Well, fun enough. Leona got free rein, so he could fly anywhere on campus that he wanted, but he had to listen to Idia talk about fifty different video games. The only thing they've done together game-wise is chess! Not videogames, chess! It's rare to see Idia so animated, though, so… whatever. He could listen to more nerd facts as he drove around if it meant that Idia wouldn't freeze in fear at every little thing.

"- and so, that's how you can get a total of ten cupcakes during your ACNH birthday party." Explained Idia as he shuffled through his bag, gripping his tablet in one hand and pulling out a bundle of crumpled paper with the other, "Anyway, you drive fine now, so we can get on to the main event."

"The main event wasn't me doing a couple loops with this car?" Questioned Leona as they passed by the top bit of NRC for the sixth time that afternoon, "I thought that was thrilling."

"We almost lost a couple presents!" Exclaimed Idia, smacking Leona lightly with his tablet, "And that stunt wasn't it! We need to test this sleigh and deliver a few gifts."

"Why?"

"I want to see if we can go no contact and just drop gifts on people, that's why I have Ortho in the back." Idia flipped through a couple of the pages in his hand, "You probably shouldn't run over anyone, but I encourage scaring people to death by nearly running them over. Particularly Azul, he beat me in Monopoly last week through dirty tactics-"

Yep. Nothing like walking through the snow miserably. Against all odds, Ruggie found himself running late. Not that late, but still, pretty late. His class went on past the bell, the line at Sam's store took forever, and now the hyena found himself crunching through the snow with Jack. He met up with the guy on his way out of the store but… still. It feels a little awkward that he's making Jack lug around all the laundry stuff he bought earlier. Jack was super willing and everything, but still. The help is appreciated at least.

"So…" Starts Jack, perhaps uncomfortable with the silence between them, "Have you heard what has been happening today?"

"Are you talking about the murder sleigh?" Questioned Ruggie, "Yeah, it would be pretty hard to miss the gossip floating around the halls about the mysterious flying vehicle that nearly mowed down a couple students today."

"Yeah, that sleigh." Jack keeps on trudging ok through the snow, "It didn't kill anyone yet, but it tended to target students who were alone in open spaces."

"... Yeah?"

"And we're alone… in an open space. We won't get run over next, will we?"

"Huh." Ruggie hadn't thought about that before, but they sure are walking in an open space with nobody else around, "Probably not. What's the chances that the crazy murder sleigh would want to-"

"Wait." Jack paused with a small twitch of his ears, "Do you hear something?"

Ruggie stopped in his own tracks, trying to catch on to the mysterious sound Jack was referring to. He could certainly hear something… it's faint, like the jingle of bells and the clunking of several… boxes? He wasn't sure. It was nearly impossible to hear the bells over the crunching of snow and their idle chatter, he's surprised Jack hear the noise at all. Still, why does it sound like that bell jingle is getting louder by the second?

"Where is that sound coming-?" Ruggie turned to look behind him, coming face to face with a sleigh in the sky that's coming straight at them, "Jack! The sleigh! It's coming for us!"

"What?!" Jack hauled the bags he held over his shoulder as he started running for it, "We have to go, Ruggie! Run-!"

"Don't run!" Yelled something from the sleigh that's hurling itself towards them, "Duck! Get down!"

Jack and Ruggie were on the ground in seconds, holding their breath as the sleigh sped on by over their heads. Part of him swore that he saw the vehicle graze the top fluff off of Jack's ears, it went way too close to them!

"Great seven…" Ruggie cursed as he slowly lifted himself up from the snow, "Are you good, dude?"

"I- Yeah." Jack's gaze seemed to follow the retreating sleigh that flew off into the evening sky, "Are you good?"

"Well, I'm certainly not roadkill." Ruggie spun around briefly, looking at their surroundings, "The stuff I bought isn't crushed or anything but- hey!" Ruggie pointed towards two neatly placed present boxes that had somehow appeared behind them, "Look! Did the sleigh drop these?"

"Maybe?" Jack carefully approached the gifts, grabbing one and flipping it around, "There's a tag here, this one says 'For Jack, from the green one and his reindeer'. Wait, it's for me?!"

"Does that mean the other one is for me?!" Ruggie quickly picked up the other box and grabbed the tag, it had his name on it, "Dude! It is for me!"

"Should we open them..?"

"Why not? It's not like the sleigh is coming back for them."

Jack merely nodded in agreement before tearing open his present, "No way! Succulent crochet for beginners, I was looking up this book last night!"

Oh boy, Ruggie was looking up different types of laundry detergent last night. He really, really hoped he wasn't about to get laundry detergent. Maybe he should save this thing to open later-

"What did you get?" Questioned Jack, eyes brimming with curiosity.

Well, no avoiding it now. Ruggie carefully undid the neat ribbon before tearing apart the wrapping paper, revealing… four dozen doughnuts? Oh yeah, the other thing he was looking up last night, how to easily make four dozen doughnuts while hungry. He never managed to accomplish that, mainly because the BOOgle results sucked, but now he got what he wanted with zero effort. Ruggie popped open one of the doughnuts, expecting to get some plain ones, but what greeted him instead were twelve doughnuts that seemed to be individually decorated to look like spotted hyenas. That's… really cute, actually.

Jack leaned over his shoulder to look at his newly acquired doughnut haul, pointing at one of the various hyena doughnuts, "Hey, Ruggie, that one looks like you!"

"Did you see their faces?!" Idia seemed close to tears besides him, face adorned with a huge grin, "Gold! They're expressions are almost as good as Azul's look of pure panic!"

"I got a pretty good shot of their faces!" Exclaims Ortho with his camera, "We can print you a copy if you want, Leona."

"Sure, why not." Leona couldn't help but smile as he saw the Shroud brothers do a fist bump, "Who are we scaring to death next?"

"They were the last people we had on our test run list, actually." Idia leaned back in his seat, "Can you land us near the botanical garden? You'll be free of your reindeer duties for the day afterwards."

"Oh. Yeah, sure." Part of Leona had hoped that this would last longer, for he's having a better time than expected with the Shroud brothers, but he shouldn't be selfish, "You don't want to land where we started?"

"Nah, too far, the botanical garden is closer." Idia grabbed his discarded tablet and held it up to his face, letting the device do the rest of the talking, "We can take the long scenic route to the field if you want to spend more time with me!"

"Hah, you wish."

Idia huffed behind his tablet as it continued to rattle out words, "You'd definitely fail if you were in an otome."

"Good thing I'm not in one then, yeah?" Leona landed the sleigh with ease outside of the botanical garden, "Here we are, radish sprout. Anything else you two need before I get goin'?"

Idia lowered his tablet to speak with his own mouth once more, "Yeah, I've got one more thing." Idia motioned towards Ortho with his hand, "You still got it?"

"Yep!" Ortho produced a present, dropping it onto Leona's lap, "Happy Yuletide, Leona!"

"Happy Yuletide, Leona. I had to get my trusty reindeer a little something so… tada. Take it with you as you get off, ok? No throwing it away!"

"Alright, alright." Leona carefully held the gift as he got off of the sleigh, "Are we still goin' to have our chess rematch this weekend?"

"Oh defs. " Idia did a little finger gun as he slid on over to the seat Leona once occupied, "This Yuletide job of ours won't stop me from kicking your ass." He quickly left after saying those words, guiding the sleigh off into the sky.

Right. What did Idia get him anyway? Leona tore open the wrapping paper, revealing a rather soft pillow with a nice silk pillowcase folded to the side. This is nice, it could probably replace his usual nap pillow as well…

→ literally acts like he doesn’t care about the game but has 395+ hours game time

→ uses the excuse it’s to play with kenma but kuroo actually got into it before kenma had the chance to look at it properly

→ fishing tourney KING

→ has multiple gold trophy’s and built a whole extension just to show them off

→ also treats all his villagers equally

→ he was a bit picky and only wanted cats and dogs on his island though

→ if you’re anything but a cat or a dog, i’m sorry but kuroo will timeskip you tf off of his island

→ has a soft spot for lucky but doesn’t admit it

→ he likes to come across as a “fair dictator of the island”

→ just admit luckys your fav and go oh my god

→ his house is really nice too

→ pretty much paid off all his debt and is financially responsible 😼

He literally chose the most inconvenient layout when he started. His resident services is right smack in front of his airport so there’s like barely a sliver of walking space AND it’s slightly to the left so it ain’t even centered 💔

When the rest of inarizaki comes over to visit, he ends up getting slaughtered for his lack of “appealing scenery” and influx of weeds 😭 Osamu, Suna, and Aran are leading the revolution

Do NOT invite this mf over to your island he will trample all over your flowers, INCLUDING the hybrids. Isn’t even aware of the damage he’s caused until you’re chasing him with an axe and gifting him trash every day for the next two weeks

Gets on his knees and begs you for spare 30 iron nuggets 🤲🏼🥺

Listen he knows all villagers are created equal✨ and whatnot but he still screams every time he sees an ugly villager arrive at his campsite. He saw Limberg once, said No ❤️ and immediately closed out of the game

Horror themed island!!! He gets real creative with it - everything’s strategically placed and he’s got all sorts of rare and hacked items to work with, courtesy of Kenma’s activities on the black market. He has a lot of references to Japanese folklore sprinkled throughout his island

Naturally, Lucky’s his favorite villager; also has a soft spot for Kiki

But he actually loves spending time on yours bc its such a change from his usual Eeerie one

He’s got a european town inspired theme going on - the color palette throughout his island is immaculate

It’s infuriating how perfect his island is when he isn’t even a time traveler. It took you months WITH time traveling to achieve an island that you’re somewhat satisfied with and he’s sitting there like yeah I hit 5 stars after three weeks❤️

His museum’s fire; every time he collects a species for the first time, he immediately takes it to blathers. His fossil collection is also like 99% complete. The only thing that bothers him is how dry his art gallery is, so you always have to text him when redd’s on your island

Sorry this one is so late!! I write a lotta Seb headcanons in general so it was kinda hard comin up with these. Hope you enjoy!!

Sebby Headcanons!

The farmer, Robin, and Sam are the only ones that can call him Sebby. Abigail tried it once and got a snowball thrown at her face. Sam occasionally calls him Seabass, too. Seb doesn’t care for it.

Sebastian’s love for frogs started as a child. There was a little creek near his house, so everytime it rained, he would see a frog. He and his dad used to go looking for them late at night and early in the morning. He misses those times.

Sebastian is really good at cooking! I can’t remember if there’s anything in canon about this, but who cares! He learned how to cook when he was younger. Now, since he rarely eats with the rest of his family, he cooks for himself, usually just making instant ramen or cheap microwaveable dinners. His talents are totally wasted smh.

Seb dies for those stupid Hallmark movies. Only Sam knows about this because he forgot to knock and saw Sebastian crying over a romcom about a generic hetero couple with basic problems that could be solved with the tiniest bit of communication. He makes fun of him for it years after. (As he should. Hallmark movies suck ass.)

Sebastian plays Animal Crossing New Horizons but his island is ,,, less than stellar. He has the museum finished, but his island is a mess. He doesn’t really care about making it look good, he’s just about completing the game. He has loads of other games (all gifts from Sam for his birthday), but he prioritizes ACNH.

Seb sucks at first-person shooter games. Abigail likes to play them and always tries to get Seb into it, but he’s not good at reacting to things quickly. He likes more lowkey games where he doesn’t need to like,, think all the time.

Sebastian was terrible at school. He was put into all of the advanced and honors classes in highschool, but he hated it, so he tried to fail his classes. He ended up getting straight A’s because Demetrius yelled at him whenever he got a zero on something. He’s still mad about it. He won’t admit it, but part of the failing was to spite Demetrius and Maru, who are always praised for their intelligence. He needed something that separated him from them, even if it was negative.

Sebastian got his ears pierced in Sam’s room when they were thirteen. Sam got one of his ears done before he backed out, but Seb went all the way. In highschool, he got his tongue pierced in some guy’s basement during a party. It got infected within like, a week. He still thinks about redoing it sometime.

Sebastian’s favorite show is Avatar: The Last Airbender. No I’m not projecting onto Seb what? He loves TLOK too, but ATLA is his favorite.

Sebastian likes lofi music better than anything. Like, emo music is great and all, but he loves laying down with the lofi music playing in the background and taking naps. It’s relaxing!

Hopefully that was good enough for y’all ! I love writing for Seb soso much. He’s one of my favorites. Maybe I’ll post smth else tonight too!!! I’ve been in a huge SDV mood since my partner starting playing it too. :)

7. Most disappointing game you’ve played? 

THIS i have an answer to. ive said this before in ranty posts but animal crossing new horizons is the most dissapointing game ive played. obviously ive played worse games but i had such grand expectations of acnh that what it ended up being was such a disappointment. to sum up quickly, gutting the content and dripfeeding it back in updates only to focus on a decorating element that’s tedious and not rewarding makes for a major disappointment

Sunday 22/8/21 - Media Recommendations #16: Top 3's of Right Now

In terms of new media to recommend this week, there is none. So this week I'm gonna do a bit of a recap/best of media thing. From the categories of Music, Anime, and Videogames, I'm gonna list my top 3 of right now.

What do I mean by Top 3 of Right Now? Well, personal taste in consumable media is very malleable and subject to change over time. So today, I'm gonna quickly highlight what I can declare my Top 3 Favourite Songs, Anime Series, and Videogames are, as the Mitchell of August the 22nd, 2021.

Some of these things I'm recommending I will have discussed in a previous Media Recommendations post, but my discussion of each of the things I talk about today will be very short. So without further ado, let's start with music.

● Top 3 Favourite Songs

▪︎3rd: Caramelldansen - Caramella Girls

I can't really explain in words why I like this song so much, but it's just really good. I am not fluent speaker of Swedish, so I do not understand much of anything in the lyrics, but that's the magic of good music, you don't have to understand. If a song bops hard enough, the lyrics can be complete nonsense and still make worldwide charts even outside their native tongue. Caramelldansen also manages to capture that quintessential excitable weaboo nerd energy that I've come to accept is definitely part of my being.

This spot was the hardest to place out of any other placing in this post. There was about 6 songs I could declare as being my 3rd favourite song of all time, but at the very second I'm writing this, midnight on Sunday, I decided that Caramelldansen is my third favourite song.

▪︎2nd: Foolish Heart - Nyanners

One thing that will always make me enjoy a song is a funky beat. Music that just pumps and jams. Foolish Heart is fun to groove to and there's not much more to it. I also have a soft spot for bitter-sweet lovesongs, and there aren't many songs I know that are as bitter about the sweetness of love than this. I follow the artist who does this song on many of her socials and I was a fan of it the second it came out, and it will probably stay in my regular rotation for a long time.

▪︎1st: I Want You - Savage Garden

I had actually heard this song a bit when I was much younger, but it was only recently I became obsessed with it. It is the song used in the closing credits during JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4, and I instantly fell in love with it. It's just so funky and goes so damn hard. It's a soft song, but also very powerful. The vocals are so smooth and the instruments are so sexy. It's been my favourite song for many years in a row now, and I think it's gonna keep that number 1 spot for a while longer yet.

● Top 3 Favourite Anime Series

▪︎3rd: Darling in the Franxx

Darling in the Franxx just vibed with me on an emotional level. My very soul was touched by how much love this anime exudes. Studio Trigger are known foremost for their intense action and over the top characters, and sure this anime has those in spades. For someone who hasn't watched it, it may appear to be a cosmic mecha anime, but in fact, it is a romance story first. I can't really explain it well, but Darling in the Franxx just punches you right in the soul with how much emotion there is. It is a beautiful anime.

▪︎2nd: Food Wars - Shokugeki no Soma

There's just something fun about rooting for a snarky protagonist who is overconfident. Especially when, most of the time, they are precisely big enough for their boots. Food Wars is a complete 3 course dinner that fills many different niches of anime. It's a lesson in many different cultures, it is food porn, it's a battle shonen, it even has light romance, but never lets that take centre stage over the journey of the protagonists. I'm admittedly a lover of tasteful fanservice here and there, and Food Wars delivers just the right amount of echi to entertain those into it, but no more than necessary. Food Wars is just... a lot. And it's great.

▪︎1st: Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

FMA is just such a full package. It has a fun and interesting cast of characters. A complex and vast setting that is neither overexplained nor underexplained. A cast of villains that are all unique and the perfect balance of sympathetic to hateable. And most importantly, it does not outstay its welcome. I was very much considering putting JoJo's Bizarre Adventure up here, but the issue is that like, many other series, a series can be too long. A good anime has to be long enough to sink your teeth into, but if drags on for too long, it can become exhausting. FMA spends the perfect amount of time building up the plot and ends where it should. Edward and Alphonse Elric are the perfect dynamic duo, and every character has such fun designs and personalities. I could blab on for ages on why I love Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, and I have in a previous post. So go search that up in my pinned post if you want a longer breakdown. It is an anime MUST WATCH.

●Top 3 Videogames

▪︎3rd: Super Smash Bros Ultimate

The very idea of Super Smash Bros is something that appeals to gamers everywhere. A suite of characters from all over gaming that are all playable in one huge game. You get to play that classic "my favourite character could kick your favourite character's butt" in real time. I'm not a big fighting game guy, but Smash has a very accessible jumping off point, simple controls and a system of combat that's only really as deep as you need it to be. Smash Bros is also a very important game to me socially, since I owe all my current closest friends to meetings I had interacting with the competitive scene. I used to be really into competitive Smash too, and Smash Ultimate in particular had a fairly balanced cast, in that if you were committed enough, you could dominate with any character. But even if I've grown exhausted with that scene, and only ever play the game casually now, I owe a lot to this series.

▪︎2nd: Animal Crossing New Horizons

As of right now, Animal Crossing is not a game I play.... at all. But for the few months after the game released, ACNH was a religious dedication. I'm in a pretty shitty place these days. Can't see friends, can't even go to work, the world is falling apart as our leaders can't get Covid under control. But while I was playing ACNH, it brought structure and purpose back into my life for a while. I had villagers depending on me, museum collections to complete, flowers to breed, an island to transform into my vision of a nice place to live. It was nice. This number 2 spot might be taken by a different game in the future, but this year, Animal Crossing New Horizons was a very important game for me.

▪︎ 1st: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

Despite Zelda being a huge part of my identity, I didn't actually get into the series until my mid teens. By that point, most of the later games were very formulaic and linear. And sure that can make for a very compelling story and experience, but BotW just threw that idea out the window. Breath of the Wild is a game you can just get lost in. Spend an hour just dicking around in the middle of nowhere and it's a blast just to move around. The world is tranquil, and also exciting. The game is gorgeous and fun to play and there's just too much to talk about. I've played the game from start to finish at various levels of completion about 5 times now, (one playthrough being a 2 hourish speedrun to the final boss) and every playthrough I found new locations, puzzles, interactions that I never encountered before. It's a game that just matched my being perfectly and I doubt a game will leave an impact like that for many years to come.

Been Awhile... So ACNH Brewster

It has been a long while since I posted any art here, and to be honest I don’t think I can bring myself to doing such in a constant manner again. I have moved completely to twitter and even wiped my toyhouse until I can find motivation again. If you want my twitter it’ll be in my bio in a few minutes after posting this. So I heard Brewster was coming to Animal Crossing... that is fantastic! However- what will be his function? I’ve wondered this since months ago and even wrote a... nice lengthy document to express in what ways Brewster could be utilized, so enjoy this bit.

“Having him in ACNH wouldn’t really provide much at least necessity wise. In my personal opinion if Brewster was to be added, he’d have to have a much bigger role in his own cafe like Mable and Sable, Timmy and Tommy, and Tom and Isabelle. A part-time job wouldn’t really do much in the modern age of NH as quite literally everything can be sold, even your soul, but it could be a big opportunity to have something fun or casual to do with a friend visiting your island. A way this could done: If you have a friend over when the cafe is open, you both could work for exclusive items or resources from Brewster, working together to make coffee and maybe even pastries (as most cafes do include breaded-treats) to villagers, npcs, or maybe even to other player characters in your friend list acting as npcs coming in for a coffee. Another way it could be fun is designing your own coffee preference through Brewster, and if coffee is not your style, maybe a certain tea preference, or since it is pretty popular, a preference for a boba. Another way he would be cool to have on your island is the aesthetic he brings. Having a general store and clothing store are great and all, but sometimes you gotta just have different stores for different things. Having a cafe for coffee or even treats, could expand not only fun eating options in the game because why not, but if you can have a take out coffee or pastry, it could be a very good gift for your villagers at random, or maybe even a perfect gift for their birthday party so you aren’t completely empty handed, or just plain bored of giving them furniture that screams “I hate you” in the most colorful way without becoming demonetized. If this was how he was injected into the game, it would make buying that online Nintendo subscription worth it just a little bit more than what we actually got in the game. So personally, Brewster would add a little flair to the game if implemented correctly, and I wouldn’t mind at all if he came with perks like that and was a DLC for a few dollars.“

As you can tell towards the end that I did not find the online subscription worth it. I love visiting people and seeing their island and it definitely helps for the Stalk Market trades and sells/buys. I also mentioned that I wouldn’t mind it being DLC, because let’s be honest here, the game doesn’t make a consistent flow of money besides one type of flow, and that's buying the game. Not a lot of need to keep going on the game if all you get out of it is a sparse buy here and there of the game itself with no further support (like geez make a kickstarter for some of the things you took away, you are sure to get thousands like c’mon)

Well that was my take on Brewster and I hope he has some function similar to what I had wrote months ago, but hey if it doesn’t, it doesn’t can’t complain about it now.

ACNH DIRECT RECAP 2/20/2020

There was an animal crossing: new horizons direct today! Here’s the biggest hits from it! Also, this post is very, very long and very in-depth (i spent well over an hour on it) so there is a cut in the beginning to save your dashboard!

First of all, you can pick your island (and further customise the terrain but I’ll get to that later)

And you can pick the northern or southern hemisphere! You’ll be able to experience all four seasons regardless of your pick!

You start off with two villagers! You then get an orientation from Tom Nook, Timmy, and Tommy!

You can pick where your villagers live!!! You can also see the borders of how much space the tents will take up.

Facilities

The plaza (the leaf on the map) has Resident Services, which is run by the nooks to provide, well, basic services. They sell tools, flowers, and medicine for wasps! There’s also a crafting table to make more stuff! And it’s open 24/7!!!

Crafting works by learning the recipe, and then gathering the crafting supplies to make it! You just make it at the crafting bench in the top right corner.

You can customize furniture really easily in this game! And, Custom Designs Are Back! (more on that later)

The Airport! It’s also open 24/7 and you can travel to other islands and send letter to your residents here! Also it’s run by the cutest dodo bird

You can have 8 people on one island!

Nook Inc. Special Services

The Nook Mileage Program is a lot like MEOW Coupons from acnl! Do some tasks to earn miles, to then get rewards! They’re also used to pay off the Getaway Package cost! (yall gonna need 5,000 miles for that btw)

Wasps, scorpions, and tarantulas are back y’all! Ya know how when you got bit by a tarantula or stung by a scorpion in new leaf you’d just pass out? Well wasps can do that now so #YouCanDieInACNH kldkfjdlfjfhjdffj

My boy Wisp is back! It looks like you can collect ghosts in this game (which you could do in older games as a friend informed me)

Get those snazzy houses! It appears you can have 4 rooms in your house (the main room, one to the left, right, and back)

You can use Nook Miles Tickets to go on Island Tours! You can do things like the acnl island tours, along with picking up some animal friends! There’s multiple islands and it seems to be random every time.

Apparently you can jump over small rivers to escape the tarantulas and scorpions fvbvsjfbvjlsfbvhj

Party Play lets you call residents who live on the same island as you for some local co-op!

Creatures found by the people you’re playing with are stored in the recycle box at resident services!

The Nintendo App finally has a gosh damn use! You can scan qr codes from happy home designer and new leaf! As well as talk to the people you’re playing with!

Part 2 of the Presentation 

Ya’ll you can decide where your new residents will live before-hand! You can invite some residents to live on your island as well!

More Facilities!!! The facilities shown in the direct were: the museum, nook’s cranny, able sisters, the campsite

You can move your house AND the shops and facilities once they’re built it seems!

Town services is supposed to expand into a town hall and ya’ll know what that means!!

ISABELLE!!!

Some other fan favorites will also be visiting the island! These include: Label, Harvey, Celeste, Saharah, Daisy Mae (more on her in a bit), and Kicks!

Celeste can give you a magic wand that lets you select outfits!

Daisy Mae is a new NPC who sells turnips! I speculate she’s the child of Joan, but we don’t know yet.

Fishing Tourneys and Bug Offs are now hosted by CJ and Flick! Flick is my entire aesthetic I love him!!

Free updates are coming with seasonal festivities! My main man Jack is back yall!

Island Customization is expansive! Rip homebrew bc there is no need anymore! We have easy paths, bridges, ramps, river customization, cliff customization, AND you can make your own damn waterfalls! (i’d recommend watching the direct starting at 20:49 to fully grasp this bc it’s a lot)
