I need to yap desperately about one single gripe I have with this game. MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD read at your own discretion
The first half is me ranting about how much certain things mean to me and how impacted I was, and the actual gripe comes closer to the end.
I'll preface this by saying this post is about Varric's death and my rage and despair regarding it, but more so about my Rook's.
I've seen people who said they picked up on the hints about whatnot, who knew before the Fade Prison. I was not one of those people. I was so relieved when I saw him after the Prologue that I didn't think twice, because I knew that it would destroy me the second shit started going wrong.
I was already not having a good time when I started the game simply because Varric was getting older. I don't handle aging well or death, and his design showing his age, and the comments he would make about "getting too old for this" just made my heart break.
And then shit got worse. I sobbed disgustingly when that knife went into Varric's chest.
After Rook woke up from talking to Solas and she heard Varric, I was so gods damned relieved. And my Rook was better taken care of by Varric in that year she spent with him than she was in the rest of her entire life.
I cried from the end of Ghilan'nain's fight until the romance scene and on and off after that. I got so used to visiting Varric just to be comforted by his presence. Inquisition was the biggest part of my life for a year and a half when I was just a kid.
I did really bad middle school age writing for it but regardless of the quality, those characters were built up in my head becoming even more than they were in the game. Varric was my biggest support character through everything I was going through at the time.
I don't talk about it much, but I didn't have a great childhood, and I know a lot of people didn't, but I coped with it through writing and video games. Varric was the one supporting me through the abuse I suffered and writing was the way I processed how bad things really were.
When Rook was in the prison she said "What am I going to find here?" And Varric said "I think you already know, kid." I DIDN'T until he said that. The second he said that my entire chest tightened and I just said "No" out loud as I watched Rook find his body.
Now for my real complaint!!!
Rook never gets the chance to grieve Varric. They go from talking to him every day to finding out he's dead and it was all a lie. I have personally never been more fucking pissed at Solas than I am now. But Rook comes back and they have that kind of "closing off" scene with Varric's empty bed (which was so hard to go through btw). And then they fuck their pookie LIKE I CANNOT BE THE ONLY ONE UPSET ABT THAT
FYM I gotta find out my dad is dead and then Rook is up for boning like there's no fucking way unless it's to cope. And at least pertaining to the Lucanis romance, Rook is processing everything that happened and they can say "So much has happened, I just don't know how to feel."
And rather than getting to process that in some kind of way, the devs said nah this scene serves one singular purpose, and Lucanis says "I do" and then dicks them down.
Personally, I felt very dismissed despite being overjoyed about finally having the romance scene, I couldn't even enjoy it with everything that happened prior.
Rook deserved the chance to completely break down after everything they went through. Tbh i don't know how they kept it together. Varric said "don't get all misty eyed" and i thought to myself that's way too delicate a term for what's happening here, I was fully ugly crying.
Fuck your "I had a good run" I still need you bitch.
All this to say I'm very upset, and I'm running my second playthrough and every time I look at, hear, or talk to Varric I tear up again. Wtf Bioware.
Rook should've gotten the chance to actually talk about what Solas did to them, especially in the sense that he made them believe Varric was still there. Or at least get to properly grieve the person who was their closest friend for a long time.
I have very strong feelings about this obviously

Can you do a transmale!reader x Harry Hook/Uma
(if you do multiple characters)
Where reader is chosen with the main four in the first movie (kid of Jack Sparrow) and leaves. Heâs part of Umaâs crew. And when heâs chosen in the first movie, heâs pre-T or anything like it.
Then the second movie comes along and reader goes back to the isle with the others to bring back Mal. But he really goes because he wants to see his pirates. Except now heâs been on T for about a year now and had his surgeries. So they donât recognize him and kidnap him along with Ben.
Anddddd I canât really think of anything else after that. SoâŚhave fun with it! Preferably a happy ending, with lots of fluff and sweetness.
Pre-established Uma/Harry and Reader didnât come out to them before leaving so as far as Uma/Harry know, Reader is a cis woman. So itâs a surprise when he finally tells him who he really is.
And yeah, thatâs all. Itâs alright if you donât write it, Iâd understand. Thanks!
Are we supposed to know you? (Uma x TransMale!Reader x Harry Hook)
Summary: You were sent off with the other Vk's to Auradon and when you come back to retrieve Mal, you're changed. You of course go back for Mal, but it's mainly to see the people you left and to tell them you're home. What happens when they don't recognize you and see you as a threat, just like Ben. How will they know you're who you say you are? Pronouns: You/Yours, She/Her (In mentions from Uma and Harry), He/Him Warnings: None Word Count: 2.7k A/N: (Long A/N) Act like Jefferson doesn't exist, I forgot he existed lol. Also, I won't lie, I started this at one o'clock in the morning, and was contemplating how on earth I make this fluff when they don't recognize him and kidnap him. So, unfortunately I didn't get lots of fluff into it, I apologize, I will write a part two to this little thing just for you with only fluff in it. I hope I did the general idea justice, if I didn't, I apologize. Lots of love! <333 (Even if I explained it, you guys would not understand how frustrated I've been with tumblr and my computer. I'm so sorry for how late this is, I've been upset because I had to delay it. It's here now though.)
When Mal came to you , talking about the Isle, you couldn't help but get excited. Your eyes lit up and your smile got wider at the thought of discussing it. Mal noticed your obvious signs of wanting to continue the conversation so she sat down next to you on the bed, looking out the open curtains where the students of Auradon Prep walked. The blonde girl looked over to you, the tips of her hair their typical purple. She sighed and looked back down, messing with her fingers, âDo you ever feel likeâŚâ She paused, unable to express how she felt in words. It wouldâve been easier for her if you were the first person she went to, but you werenât.
She went to Evie, Jay, Carlos, but none of them could understand where she was coming from. It was as if everyone was happy with their new lives, but her.
Mal groaned, putting her head into her hands, unable to speak anymore.
You looked at her curiously, placing a hand on her back and rubbing small circles into it. âYou wanted to talk about the islandâŚright?â You asked her, tilting your head to see her expression. She removed her hands and nodded, not looking at you. âYeah.â
âIs it becauseâŚyou miss it?â
There was a pause, as if the room itself stilled, as if the world stopped. You moved your hand a bit just to make sure it wasnât some sort of magic freezing everything.Â
Mal sat up straight, swallowing hard, âI donât miss the island itself.â She confessed, making eye contact with you, âI miss who I was.â She explained, taking a deep breath, âDo you get what I mean?â
You looked at her blankly, tilting your head as you looked down at yourself.Â
As you did so, she opened her mouth before closing it immediately. She shook her head and laughed, slapping your arm lightly. âYou know what I mean!â
âHey, I didnât even say anything!â You chuckled out, putting an arm around her, placing your head on hers. âButâŚâ You began, rubbing her arm softly as she leaned into you, âI do get where youâre coming from.â
Mal looked up, her eyes a bit water, âYou do?â
You nodded with a smile, âWe went from a life of no no structure, doing whatever we want, enjoying life toâŚâ You blew air out of your mouth, sighing heavily, âRules, etiquette, expectations.âÂ
The girl next to you stiffened at the last word before she relaxed, leaning more into your shoulder. âI just missâŚ.â She trailed off, shaking her head.
âYou miss the freedom.â
âYeah, I miss the freedom.â
You nodded, thinking for a moment. Soon enough, you removed your arm from her and turned to her, âThen, get it back.â
âWhat?â
âShow everyone that you still deserve your freedom.â You explained, moving your hands with your words. âWe didnât stop being villain kids just because we started going to Auradon.â You continued watching as her eyes got bigger, âYou donât have to fit into these boxes people are trying to force us into.â You told her, shaking your head, âIf they donât understand that, then they never really understood you.â
Your words seemed to have gotten to Mal as she stood up quickly, a small smile on her face. âI needed that, thank you.â She told you, inhaling softly as she turned to the door to walk out.
You waved and mumbled a small âyouâre welcomeâ once the door was closed since she gave you no time to.Â
You didnât think much of it, you just assumed she would do something to show people that she was still herself even if she wasnât âevilâ, or necessarily âgoodâ.Â
Well, you didnât think much of it until the next day when the VK group and Ben bursted into your room. You jumped, shoving a paper under your pillow as you clutch your chest. âLast I checked, knocking wasnât a foreign concept.â
Evie mumbled a small apology as the rest stood with apologetic but serious faces.
You sat up since the air was so tense, tossing your legs over the bed to stand in front of them, âWhatâs up?â
âMal left for the Isle.â Carlos blurted out, blinking rapidly as he looked everywhere but you.
Ben looked down with a guilty face, a frown placed on his lips. âWe had a fightâŚâ He mumbled, âShe said I didnât understand howâŚâ He paused, clearing his throat, âShe said I didnât understand her.â
Your eyes widened and your mouth fell open at the realization and of the conversation you had with her.
Jay noticed your expression and knitted his brows together, âWhat?â
A harsh cough left your throat as you looked away from them, âI mightâve had something to do with that.â
The group simultaneously yelled, âWhat?!â
Your hands raised in an automatic surrender, âHey, she came to me talking about the Isle,â You began your explanation, âand I miss my
Evie wasnât pleased to say the least, she crossed her arms with a raised brow. âWe are your people.â
You almost laughed, but given the situation you decided not to. âI miss my people.â You specified, your words reminding the group that all of you werenât exactly the bestest of friends back on the island.
They couldnât say anything, they knew you were right. Ben didnât exactly get the message, and that reminded you all of why you were gathered in the first place.
You agreed to go to the Isle to help Mal.
You agreed, but you werenât really going to help Mal. She lived there her entire life, you knew she would be fine. She knows her way around the island, she practically ran it. You werenât going to the Island to help Mal, you were going home.
Once all of you reached the island, you thought you would all spread out to find MalâŚthat wasnât the case. You all went in a suspiciously large group to find the daughter of Maleficent, something you thought was stupid.
You thought it was stupid, but you all still found where she was hiding out and Ben went to talk to her.
Evie, Jay, and Carlos all talked to each other as you scanned the area, kicking the ground slightly as time passed by. You were barely on the island and now you all were going to leave. It wasnât how you wanted things to go, nothing was how you wanted to go.
Ben walked out and before anyone could question him, he walked straight past you guys. Everyone looked at each other and you sighed, âIâll get him.â You grumbled, jogging after him.
âBen!â You yelled, trying to catch up to him. âBen, wait up!â You yelled once again, finally reaching him, placing a hand on his shoulder. âWhat happened? Why are you so upset?â
âShe doesnât want to come with us, all of this was for nothing.â Ben spoke harshly, ripping his beanie off his head and throwing it to the ground.
You sighed, picking the beanie up, dusting it off. âBen, do me a favor.â
âWhat!â
âLook around right now.â You told him, gripping the beanie tightly. He looked at you confused but you repeated, âLook around right now.â
Ben regulated his breathing, calming down enough to look around. It was cramped, cluttered, dirty even. It wasnât properly cared for but the people around seemed to be having a good time nonetheless.Â
When he looked back at you, you were looking at the children running around, trying to find a way to pick-pocket Ben. âThis is how we grew up BenâŚâ You mumbled, finally making eye contact with Ben, âYou canât expect Mal, the daughter of the biggest villain who was on this island, to just snap into a princess.â You explained to him, shaking your head.
Ben turned, looking at the area around, âI didnât realizeâŚâ He whispered, eyes flickering to something new the more he looked.Â
When the son of Belle and the Beast turned around to face you again, you were nowhere to be found. He turned around quickly, breath picking up the pace as he looked for you, âWhereâd you go?â He called out, spinning in a circle until he felt a tap on his shoulder. He let out a sigh of relief, âCome on, that wasnât fun-â The next thing he knew, everything went black.
Blurry eyes opened, a dry throat let out a cough, and vision restored. Ben looked around for a moment before his gaze fell on you. You were sat with a blank expression, seemingly uninterested in your current situation.
Ben muttered a few incoherent sentences but you cut him off for a moment.
âGetting kidnapped was not on my vacation bucket list.â
Neither of you could even begin a conversation after your words when someone started laughing. The two of you looked up and saw someone had walked in, seemingly amused at your situations.Â
âAbsolutely hilarious, youâre quite funny.â The male said, looking you over a bit before turning his attention to Ben to do the same thing.
Your brows furrowed as you broke out of whatever âtranceâ you were in. âHarry?â You asked aloud, adjusting yourself to get a closer look at him.
He pointed his fake hook to you, placing it under his chin. âHow do you know my name?â
âHow does who know your name?â A voice called from behind the boy, footsteps getting louder as they neared.
Harry tilted his head, âThis one.â He spoke, moving his hook from under your chin to step back.
The person that walked in was a girl, she had light blue braids and brown eyes. She stood tall with the hat of a pirate on.Â
Your brows furrowed once again, your mind still a little fuzzy from your current situation. âUma?â You mumbled out, tilting your head.
âYou know these people?â Ben suddenly spoke out, trying to get out the rope that tied his hands behind his back.
You looked over at him, a bit unimpressed. âI was raised here, I know everyone here.â
Harry gasped falsely, fake hook over his heart, âYouâre a VK?â He asked, not expecting you to answer, since he didn't believe you.
You nodded, forgetting that you look different so they donât recognize you. âUh, yeah.â You spoke as if it were obvious, âBorn and raised.â You spoke, trying to jog their memory. âUma, I was in your shop every single da-â
âOh, and are we supposed to know you because of that?â She asked with a straight face, squatting down to bore her eyes into yours.
You took a deep breath, closing your eyes before opening them again, âIf you said you didnât, Iâd be questioning our friendship.â
Your captors both laughed, looking at each other, âFriendship?â
Ben decided to give up, still listening to the conversation. So much was running through his mind, he was trying to figure out how to get out of this situation untilâŚhe realized something. You knew these people, you guys were friends, they just didnât recognize you. If Ben reminded them, maybe they would let you guys go.
He thought it over before blurting out, âHeâs the child of Jack Sparrow, so yes he is a villain kid.âÂ
Everyone went silent, their laughs were quiet, and your breathing stopped at Bens sudden exclamation.
You looked over and Ben looked you up and down, and that is when you realizedâŚthey donât know who you are. You had changed so much in the past year, even your voice was different. How did you just expect them to recognize you?
When you looked back at the two pirates, they were staring you down. If looks could kill, you would be six feet under.
Uma squatted down in front of you, glaring harshly, âDonât you ever disrespect her like that ever again.â She whispered to you seriously, her head whipping to Ben, âDonât you ever mention her in front of me, again.â
Harry took a few deep breaths, âShe wouldâve been fine here, and you took her.â He told Ben, poking his chest with his hook. âIf you ever try to lie to us, I will gut you like a fish.â
Uma nodded to the statement, âYou think we wouldnât know her family?â She asked you, tilting her head. âJack Sparrow had one child, a daughter, and sheâs never coming back.â She paused, biting the inside of her cheek, âFor you, a preppy, to just try to claim her father as your own for some sense of freedomâŚitâs disgusting.â
The blue haired girl stood slowly, keeping her eyes on you. You finally released the breath you were holding, when she removed herself from your space.
You blinked back a few tears as they turned to walk out the door. Harry gently took Umas hand, whispering some things that you couldn't hear.
They were so good together, they still defended your name even if they thought you weren't there. You didn't expect your chest to hurt so badly when they protected you, even if they believed you were gone for good.
âI wouldâve joined your crew even if I lost that race.â You mumbled, looking at their backs with sad eyes.
The two paused before turning to you, âExcuse me?â Uma asked, standing in place.
âThe race..â You trailed off, âIf you won I would join your crew, if I won you would have to spend a week proving to me how much you wanted me to join and then Iâd give you my answer.â You continued, nodding with your own words. You didn't notice how they continued to walk towards you. You continued on, âUnfortunately, I was dragged to Auradon before I could answer you, so Iâm doing it now.â You told them, looking up to see both of them analyzing you with parted lips, âI was going to join your crew anyways.â
Umas eyes were focusing on each of your features before she cupped your face, looking at you more intensely.
Harry looked up, making eye contact with you, âYou have her eyesâŚâ He muttered, taking off his hook to trace your cheeks.
You swallowed harshly before breathing out a chuckle, your cheeks warming a bit. âI would hope so, I was born with my eyes, guys.â
Uma shook her head, âBut sheâs⌠youâre notâŚâ
âA girlâŚI know.â You whispered out, looking down, or trying to. Harry picked your head back up swiftly.
His eyes were watering slightly, âYouâre telling the truth arenât you?â
You nodded as best as you could with his hands on your cheeks. âI know I donât look the sameâŚâ
He shook his head, âBut youâre still youâŚâÂ
Uma quickly untied the rope keeping you tied up, trying her best to go quickly. She had ordered her crew to tie your guys up from your arms to your legs, and now she was regretting it. Harry noticed her struggle and began to help untie you, muttering curses when he got to harder knots.
Once you were untied, you rubbed at your wrists, looking down for a moment at the burn.Â
You looked up, finally, and were met with Harry and Uma on their knees, staring at you. Their eyes were teary, their chests were rising and falling deeper than ever, neither could speak.
You felt your own eyes begin to water as you rushed forward, wrapping your arms around the both of them.
Harry's arm immediately went around you, he began to cry into your shoulder, holding you tightly. âWe thought weâd never see you again.âÂ
Uma, on the other hand, was hesitant. She slowly wrapped her arm around you. When she did, she felt a rush of familiar comfort, a heat rushing through her chest, something she only felt with Harry andâŚyou. She bit her tongue so as to not cry as she buried her nose into your other shoulder, âWe wouldâve found a way to you anyways.â
The warmth of the two enveloped you as you finally got to be near them again, as you finally got to feel their comforting arms again. âI have no doubt in my mind that you wouldâve found me again.â You whispered to them, trying to hold them tighter.
Harry rambled on about never leaving them again, Uma ran her fingers down your back, both of them weren't letting you go anytime soon.
Uma sniffled a bit, "We missed you so much."
"I missed you guys too, more than you'll ever know."
You were finally with your people again. Now, you didnât have to stare at a picture of the three of you, wishing they were in your arms.

âSAVE YOUR TEARSâ
theodore nott x reader
content warning : extremely toxic relationship, cursing, public sex, mature language, explicit adult content, rough sex?, degrading, theodore nott x female reader, oral (f receiving), toxic! theodore nott.
parts : 1,2,
You're sure that if you were to ask anyone with common sense what they thought about you and Theodore Nott's relationship, they'd say it should be against Wizarding law.
"I don't want to talk!" You reprimanded, folding your arms over your chest with a huff. Theodore Nott simply rolled his dead-like blue eyes at your enraged lie.
Looking up at him, you could've sworn a twisted smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. "C'mon baby, you're hurting my feelings." He mocked your soft voice.
"You don't have feelings." You mumbled, frustration growing in your voice. Theodore lowly chuckled, leaning his face down to kiss you but you turn away. "Get off of me, Nott, I need to go to Transfiguration."
Theo wrapped a veiny hand around your forearm when you tried to push past him, pulling you back to the stone wall. This time Theodore placed both his hands aside your head, trapping you between him and the wall. From the look on his pale face, you could tell that he knew you were still upset.
But how could you not be?
"Go back to wherever you were last--" Theodore scoffed loudly, drowning out the seething words leaving your lips.
"Are you kidding me?" He snapped. Even though you hated when he used that tone towards you, you weren't to back down. No, you were not about to apologize to Theodore and end up on your knees seconds later just to stop his yelling this time around.
"Funny. Those are the same exact words I repeated last night as I waited around thirty minutes for you." You shot back. "You know, Theodore.. I really do hate y--"
"Watch your mouth." He warned.
"What's her name, huh?" You continued. Theodore's jaw clenched from anger. He can handle every insult you threw his way, but Theodore really hated when you accused him of being with someone else. "Is it Greengrass? She didn't learn from the last time I dragged her by her root--?!"
You recalled the last time one of Theodore's hook-ups confronted you, and the amount of Slytherin's it took to get you off of her. As previously said before, you were a sweet girl, but the side of you that Theodore brought out, wasn't as friendly or sweet..
"Shut up, you're not even that type of girl." Oddly enough, Theodore was right, you were not the type of a girl to threaten to physically hurt someone, especially over him. The more you thought about it, the more stupider that you sounded by saying that.
You were so stupid.
Had you not been stupid you wouldn't be in this predicament with the emotionless Slytherin brunette. You would've ran for this hills the moment he made it clear your relationship was just a friend-with-benefits dynamic, knowing you wanted more. Theodore knew you were stupid, so vulnerable, and he took advantage of that.
And that made your eyes began to well with tears, eyesight becoming blurred. Before you could even get the chance to control yourself, you began sobbing loudly. How could it even be possibly to hate someone yet love them as much as you do Theodore Nott?
Lucky for your image, everyone else was in class, or you would've looked like a complete maniac to the bystanders.
"Fuck..." Theodore deeply exhaled. The sobbing only became louder as he wrapped his arms around your figure, the heat from his body which was usually comforting seeming insufferable. "What's wrong..? What did I do?"
"Everything!"
You pushed yourself away from him, completely catching your lover off guard. During the years that you've known each other, never have you pushed him away. Even if he was the reasoning behind your distress, you still allowed him to comfort you.
"My best friend hates me!" You cried out, sadness easily detected in your tone. "She won't even talk to me!"
"Why would she hate you?"
Hate was complete exaggeration and you definitely knew that. Hermione Granger actually doesn't hate you. But you don't doubt for a moment she was extremely upset and disappointed with you; You, and everybody else could see the anger on her face when Theodore walked with you, hand-in-hand, inside the Great hall the morning following your rekindling at the Black lake.
"Umm, because I keep putting myself in the same unhealthy situation with you--" You said the obvious and your voice cracks.
Unhealthy situation (toxic).
Despite you being upset in the moment, you knew to avoid having Theodore's patience with you snapping, you shouldn't call it that.
He hated when you or outsiders would name your relationship that.. He claimed that although it had its flaws-way more than the common couple, it wasn't toxic.
But it was!
"Merlin." Theodore hissed, irritated. "Why does it matter what she thinks, Y/N?" Theo's continued rambles make you frown. "Granger and Weasley can not even admit they like each other--Why would she even care?"
"Because she's my friend!"
You could tell he wished she wasn't..
"Friends care about each other, Theodore. Unlike you and yours, me and Hermione are not just friends because it makes us look good." You started hypocritically, and a small frown spreads on the brunette's lips. "So of course she's not going to want me to be with someone who treats me like.. crap!"
You were telling the actual truth. The little patience that he had for you during your outburst has fully vanished as he grabbed the back of your neck, harshly forcing you to look into his dark blue eyes. "Don't say that, Y/N."And you could see the anger rising in his face although he had no right to be mad,
Hermione would tell you that the worse part about you and Theodore's situation was that you knew he disregarded your emotions yet you still went back. It ashamed you how Theodore had you wrapped around his finger. And you fully knew that a toxic relationship was bad enough, but it was even worse if both parties knew the reality of it.
And perhaps that's what led you sob even louder in the moment. Or why you wrapped your arms around Theodore, letting your emotions off into his chest. The brunette's hands slides up from your neck into the back of your head, rubbing you in comfort.
"Aren't the two of you suppose to be in class right now?" Flinch, who guarded the corridors questioned nastily.
If looks could kill, Flinch would be unresponsive on the ground from the way that Theodore turns to glare at him. You pulled away from him, despite the protest your body was giving you, and wiped your tears. There's Concern is written over the squibs face as he watched pull yourself together.
Your attempt to walk away and to Transfiguration fails against when Theodore repeated his earlier action by pulling you back to him. "Stop crying." Theodore's large hands cups your face, bringing you to meet him in a gentle yet powerful kiss.
Merlin, you really hated Theodore, just everything about him. But unfortunately for your sanity, you found yourself loving those same things undefinably.
Did Theodore Nott love you?
You found it sad that you knew the complicated answer to that overly question. Yet here you were standing, knuckles practically forced between your lips, one leg pressed into the wooden bookshelf as Theodore ate you out like a starved man.
His tongue was roughly swirling against on your clitoris, annually sucking up the juices he earned from you. Your heart was beating rapidly, chest heaving up and down. And you didn't know weather this adrenaline rush was from the pleasure you were feeling or because you were in the schools library.. Or because on the other side of the bookcase was Harry Potter and Hermione Granger.
A person who Theodore had just wrongly accused you of flirting with and wanting to fuck, and the other who probably wishes upon a well that you'd leave him alone. Clearly, the brunettes motives behind wanting to take you right here were clear. And had he not preformed a silencing charm on the two of you, your sure they would've heard your whining and his sucking, slurping, and curses. But a silencing charm wouldn't have stopped someone, anyone, from walking by and seeing the two of you in this obscene state, and that makes you throb, lowly moaning.
"Theo--" You sob.
Theodore growled against your wet flesh, bringing your body closer to him by the hand that he had on your waist. "You want more?"
Despite it being so sick, you nod.
And you knew the sickness behind this situation was what caused that large smile to smile across his full pink lips. He pushed your leg further back into the bookshelf, allowing himself more access before burying his face in-between your thighs once again.
You were absolutely terrified of what would happen had somebody saw you like this, vaginal area on display as the same boy you'd just been fighting with in the courtyard made a embarrassing mess out of you, the rumors that would be spread about you would tarnish your reputation for sure.
You squeeze your eyes shut, butting down further on your knuckles as you roll yourself against his pleasuring tongue.
You could feel your release approaching, probably only one tongue swipe away from getting it out of you. But Theodore ripped his mouth away from you, like you did not deserve your release, and it's gone with the wind. He was such a tease, and you really hated that. Theodore slapped your hand away when you tried to pull his head back between your thighs. Theodore stands to his feet, towering over your height like a tree as usual, and you watched as his fingers frantically went to unbuckle his belt. The desperation clear, the burning fire, behind his eyes as he started at you lets you know that Theodore Nott was seriously about to fuck you until were completely incoherent.
Harshly, Theodore manhandled you around until your back was facing him. Now, your chest was pushed up against the cold bookshelf and due to a few missing books, you could currently see both Hermione and Harry sitting down at a table, studying. Had one of them looked up and stared in your direction, your sure they'd see your face. This makes you hiss out, wanting to look away but Theodore roughly grabbed your jaw, keeping you in place before you could even get the chance.
"Hold it," He breathed out, and without a second thought you scrunched up the plaid school skirt you wore in your hands. Your breath hiked, "'He's no good for you, Y/L/N'" Theodore gritted in your ear, mocking your best friend. Before you could defend her honor, you felt him buried deep inside of you.
"Why don't you fuck my other best friend instead?" Your body knocked into the bookshelf at every hard thrust he gave you. From the way Theodore had you stretched around him your jaw drops, a strangled moan escaping from it loudly. "But you'd like that wouldn't you? He's what you want?"
You would admit that Harry Potter was an attractive boy. He was nice to you, always offered to help you with things, or walk you back to your house after class. And to say that you never thought he liked you would be a lie. But why would you want anything to do with Harry when you had Theodore?
Your eyes squeezed shut. At your lack of response to his question, Theodore pounds into you painfully harder, no doubt realizing that you are actually thinking about the question. "But I'm what you need, Y/N. He can't ever do the things that I do to you, remember that." You whine like a neglected infant at that, for more perhaps?
You stand up on you are tipped toes, attempting to brush an little bit of the pleasuring pain you were feeling but Theodore wasn't going for it. He wrapped his hand around your throat, forcing your back to his chest, whispering harshly in your ear, "Stop running, Take it."
Your pull your lower lip between teeth, attempting to stop yourself from screaming as you finally came undone. Tears began to fall from your glistening eyes, landing on the white button up blouse that were wearing.
Theodore ruts himself into you even harder, holding you in place by your throat to get himself off and nearly cutting off your airway. Although you didn't entirely mind.
As previously said, you enjoyed everything Theodore Nott had to offer you, even the not exactly mentally sane stuff. Theodore finally pulled himself out of you, and you were that he was about to finish. That was until he spun your around to face him, placed his hands underneath your kneecap, and hauled you up. Without even having to be asked, you wrapped your legs around his waist.
You also took Theodore's lips into yours without having to be asked. Your trembling hands catered his face, tongue sliding over his in an extremely sloppy manner.
But the kiss was disconnected, your teeth baring with a hiss when he slips back in you. Theodore was pace was different this position, a lot more slower and deep, almost meaningful. "You think he'll still like you if he saw us?" He challenged, panting heavily.
"You wouldn't even care, would you?" He chuckled, giving you a smile that displays all his pretty pearly white teeth. "Because I'm all you need, right?"
You nodded your head, agreeing.
"Merlin Nott, you're such asshole!"
You had not even realized that you were crying.. not until you felt Pansy Parkinson hands brush against your cheeks. Her other hand was on your back, attempting to soothe you but it was failing to work.
Theodore looked at you with dead eyes. Yet even then you could see the amusement behind them, almost taunting you. And that made you that much angrier. You picked up an object from the table, launching at the brunette. "I...I hate you! S-So much!"
Theodore dodged it, the same way he does every time you tried throwing something at him while arguing. "Crazy little bi--"
Crazy?
Truthfully, you were in disbelief at the word that just escaped Theo's mouth. How dare he have the nerve to say you were behaving crazy? How dare he? Not when Theodore just basically called you clingy and told you to fuck off in front of his friends.
The embarrassment hurt just as bad as any other time he denied your relationship in and out closed doors. How could he just call things off whenever he felt like it? And you realize that you gave him that confidence by crawling back each time he did.
You're the reason that Theodore felt so comfortable treating you like something off the bottom of his shoe whenever he felt like it. And who was to say that that would change if there was a label on your situation?
"Why do you keep doing this to me?!" You spoke to him and his jaw clenched. "Merlin What did I do to deserve this?" You cried more to yourself this time.
Ever since you welcomed Theodore back in your life at the Black Lake, you have found your self crying so much more. Why did you have to love someone so nonchalant? So evil Why couldn't you love someone like Harry.. or even Draco Malfoy would be better.
Anything was better than someone that was selfish like Theodore Nott. You have dug yourself into this to insane misalliance because you have allowed him to be so selfish with your love that he didn't even deserve.
âY--You donât even deserve me...â You admitted said to him, sniffling. âSo hey Nott, fuck you.â You wanted to launch something else at Theodore, shout, cry some more but that was the reaction that he wants from you. âFuck you, Theodore Nott!â His jaw clenched at those words, expression twisting.
He wanted to see you insane at his hands, break yourself until you had other choice but to come to him comfort.
You snatched yourself out of Pasnyâs grip, Theodore wore an expression that you couldnât quite read because itâs so unfamiliar. Regret? Confusion? You couldnât tell.
And for that you could not contain yourself from throwing a pillow at him. âYou will never find someone better than me!â
You both knew that.
Then you breathlessly laughed, âAnd thatâs disappointing because youâll never ever have me again, Theodore Nott.â

Wednesday: Don't be ridiculous Thing, Enid is worth more than any mere dia-
Thing: Oh no, i know that look.
Wednesday: Thing you are a genius.
Thing: ...This isn't going to end well.
1 Hour Later...
Wednesday: Enid, a family matter has arisen that i must attend to, I will be back by the end of the weekend.
Enid: Uh yeah sure, everything okay?
Wednesday: (Pause) Yes, it cannot wait. Don't wait up and if i shan't return, burn this school down and everyone inside.

Two Days Later...
Enid is stood in the common room of Ophelia Hall, watching the news with Yoko and Divinia.
News Presenter: ...We have some upsetting breaking news, The Tower of London was broken into last night where thieves took the Koh i noor, a diamond that was set in the crown of the Queen Mother. With an estimated value of Three Hundred Million Pounds, the jewel is said to be priceless. The Metropolitan Police in conjunction with Palace officials have confirmed that currently there are no suspects, this is without doubt one of the greatest heists in history, although authorities are baffled that only one item was taken.
Enid: Wow... what kind of person would steal from a dead woman's crown. (Shaking her head) Anyway laters, Wednesday is due back at any moment!
Yoko: (Grinning) Like a puppy eagerly awaiting their owners return at the door.
Enid: (Blushing) Shut up. Anyway i'll see you later!
Enid rushes up a flight of stairs, two steps at a time, a bounce in her step. She had missed Wednesday. She had missed her so much. She pushes open the door making Wednesday flinch.
Enid: Wends!
Wednesday: (Turning around sharply, hiding something behind her back) Mi loba.
Enid: (Narrowing her eyes.) What's behind your back?
Wednesday: ...Nothing.
Enid folds her arms with a pointed glare and tilt of her head.
Wednesday sighs, knowing she can't lie to Enid, not anymore, brings the item in front of her.
Enid: Wednesday... please tell me you have a really, really good reason for having the fucking Koh-i-noor in our dorm room???
Wednesday: (Weakly) I stole it for you. I planned to give it to you this coming full Moon. To court you.
Enid:
Enid: Wends... all you had to do was ask me out for a coffee or something, not commit the greatest heist in living history! (Tearily) But oh em gee, you did this? for me?
Wednesday: I would do anything for you, my fierce, fluorescent wolf.
Enid: (Preening and blushing) Oh my gosh... I'm going to have to get used to that huh?
Wednesday: (Striding forwards) As long as I breathe every breath will be spent making sure you never feel unloved ever again.
Enid: (Squeaking as Wednesday gets within several inches of Enid's face)
Enid: You...I...uh... you love me?
Thing:
Thing: Oh fer fuck sake, just propose already!
45 Mins later...

One hour and fifty three minutes.
Rounded up, because all things considered, he should round it up, that's two hours.
Two hours. Like the blink of an eye in the scope of a whole life. But a very long time when you sit and count it out.
One hundred and twenty minutes. Seven thousand, two hundred seconds. He's always counting two hours, seeing exactly how long it feels like, how he can fill that amount of time. Seconds pass like a steady heartbeat.
He can do a lot in two hours.
Oliver tries to occupy himself nowadays more than ever, and really tries not to be alone, but it's hard. Farleigh left for Oxford. Venetia, before she decided to backpack across Europe and find herself, wouldn't let anyone touch her anymore.
Oliver doesn't like leaving Felix alone, but sometimes he has to be. You're laying cold in a family crypt somewhere next to a grandfather you never knew, and while Elspeth and Sir James don't comment on it, they both scowled when your parents sprung the announcement on everyone at the funeral.
Felix spends a lot of time alone at the edge of the maze. He's making a fairy garden where you had waited. Sometimes he'll drive into town without telling anyone, and come back with quaint, second-hand miniatures to add. It's beautiful, shining with greens and golds when the setting sun hits it just right.
So Oliver finds time to occupy himself, when he's alone and all he can think about is you sitting by the maze. You laying by the maze. You alive when he'd run from the maze. And the two hours that followed.
Sometimes he leans out of his window and shouts to the gardeners so far away they look like ants; even at this distance, his voice carries, and he sees them turn, search for him, ask if he's okay. He is, and he apologises, and he think about how far his voice carries.
On occasion, out of the blue, he'll lift Felix up when he hugs him, able to get his feet off the ground as Felix wriggles and clutches him out of surprise. Of course Felix lifts him with ease in return, spins him around, but that's not the point. Oliver is stronger than he looks; he wonders if he could lift you, could carry you far, if he could have dragged you if it had come to it.
Some nights he wakes up in a fright, your rapid heart rate beneath his fingers and he swears he could hear you whispering for help amid your shallow breathing. Please. Pleading. Begging. You were alive when he'd left you. He presses two finger to Felix's pulse point beside him, and tries to calm his breathing, to focus on Felix's slow, steady heartbeat.
And some days he sneaks into the computer room and curses how long webpages take to load when he looks up statistics on overdoses. Symptoms. Niche forums where he can learn what it felt like from survivors. People luckier than you. Their words, their stories, the recollections of those horrifying sensations stick with him, even as he diligently erases any trace of his browsing history.
And he thinks about how fucking long two hours is.
"Nan's coming over later," Felix tells Oliver idly one Sunday afternoon, "we're having tea of you'd like to join us." They're laying out in the grass, Oliver in the grass finding shapes in the clouds, Felix on his side, chewing on the stick of a lollypop he'd finished an hour ago and gently tracing abstract patterns on Oliver's chest.
"I thought you said your granny haunted Saltburn," when Oliver looks at Felix, he still can't help the way his heartrate picks up. Felix Catton touching him in the most gentle, caring way; he'd never stop feeling lucky for getting here, and never forget what he did to earn it.
Felix's gaze moves with his fingertips, up Oliver's warm, bare chest, twisting two fingers in the delicate chain around his throat. He looks pensive; but shakes his head after a beat.
"Different nan," he says distractedly, plastic straw trapped between his teeth. He tugs the chain experimentally, like he's forgotten it's attached to Oliver at all. He's in his head again; Felix is always in his head nowadays, but there's still often echoes of who he was, echoes of what Oliver has fallen for in the first place.
And he's finding himself falling more and more for this version of Felix too. So he tell himself that it was all worth it.
"Love," all these pet names - Love, Darling, Sweetheart - because if he slips up, tries to call him Fi, Oliver knows he'll only get ice in return, "is everything okay?" Oliver carefully reaches up to cover Felix's large, warm hand by his throat with his own. Felix meets his gaze, and gives a faint smile, an attempt to reassure him when he says he's fine. It doesn't work, but Oliver lets it go, and lets Felix tug him in by his chain for a kiss.
"Tea sounds lovely," Oliver murmurs against his lips.
There's something about this visit has Felix alive and buzzing the he way he hasn't in a very long time. Still he's quiet, but his eyes are bright as he follows behind the staff members setting up tea and biscuits in the garden. He goes through all the DVDs the family has and picks out a stack he thinks would be suitable, making sure they're all perfectly stacked by the DVD player. Oliver floats along behind him, and simply allows himself to admire Felix's energy.
Still, Felix finally takes a moment to breathe right as it becomes noon, and decides to have a bath to freshen up before his guest's arrival; two hours before she'd be here, Felix reminds him.
Two hours.
Oliver feels drawn to his own room. He doesn't allow himself to be alone in Saltburn often anymore, doesn't like the thoughts that crop up when he does. Perhaps it's a kind of punishment, a painful reminder, penance for what he's done.
There's a scrap of paper that he keeps tucked in a book in his nightstand, his own handwriting stuffed amongst a collection of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories, words he'd clung to and scribbled out the minute he'd gotten the chance so he'd never forget them exactly.
From the coroner's report, according to Duncan and Sir James. Time of Death; around 2am. Cause; narcotics overdose, and there were signs of alcohol poisoning.
On the back, he'd written '12:07'.
"Mum and dad both say it was a tragic accident," Felix's voice in the dead of night, the night they'd gotten the full report, riddled with guilt and unspilled tears, betrays his disbelief regarding the sentiment. Felix doesn't talk about how his last words to you were shouted with anger. Felix doesn't talk about how your last words to him were a desperate plea for him through tears. Felix doesn't think that it was an accident; only Oliver knows that he's almost right, just not in the way he thinks. Or dreads. But he has to bite his tongue on the truth, and let the man he loves live with this unjust guilt.
The water starts loudly draining for the tub, and Oliver isn't sure how long he's been sitting on the edge of his bed with his eyes squeezed so tightly shut, but he scrambles to stuff the page back into the book, and toss it back into it's drawer. He can smile again, and admire whatever outfit Felix chooses for the rest of the day, and pretend like he doesn't feel your rapid heartbeat or hear your shallow breathing every time he touches that paper, like he had the night he left you.
With the hour drawing ever closer to two, Felix keeps checking his watch. The minute he deems it to be time, he gives up all pretence of small talk - which had been another thing severely lacking as of late - and snatches Oliver's hand, pulling him through the house. They even outstripped Duncan and the footmen by the door when there comes a firm knock. Its the only time Oliver has ever seen any of the Cattons open the doors for themselves.
And it's not Felix's grandmother.
"Hi, nan," Felix sounds so genuinely happy as he hugs the older woman at the door with a warm smile and your eyes.
Oliver feels like he's frozen, like he's seeing a ghost. Out of the corner of his eyes, he sees Duncan actually standing aside, giving Felix and your grandmother a quietly fond smile.
"I swear you get taller every time I see you, oh, my lovely boy," she says with a warm laugh that sounds so damn familiar, "or maybe I've been shrinking, you get to my age and people tend to do that," and Felix laughs, actually fucking laughs. Oliver realises it's been a long time since he'd heard Felix give a proper laugh like that. As the hug ends, Felix let's her tuck her arm in his as she continues, "just you wait, one day you'll only be six-foot tall." Another laugh, and Oliver can see how genuine and broad he's smiling, how his eyes shine when their gazes meet. She's surprisingly sprightly for her age, it seems. Oliver recognises your grandmother from your funeral, but hadn't made the connection at the time, so he's surprised when Felix goes to introduce him and her eyes sparkle with recognised.
"Nan, I don't know if you've been properly introduced, but this is -"
"Your Darling, Oliver," and it's said with such warmth; her hug feels almost like home, "you strange, little thing," she laughs, "it's called a hug; are you not a hugger? I should have asked," but she doesn't apologise, nor does she let go for a few more beats. Oliver gives into this moment, closes his eyes tightly and hugs her back.
"Our Darling Oliver," Felix echoes with such admiration, and when Oliver opens his eyes, it's the first time since you'd passed where his gaze has held only the love and pride Oliver had been craving since he'd first laid eyes on him.
Once Nana - she'd insisted Oliver call her that too - lets him go, she tucks her arm in his, and is waving Felix over to her other side, briskly asking where tea was to be held. Duncan leads the way and she fawns over him too, apparently downright overflowing with love for Saltburn and everyone and everything in it. She talks more than she doesn't, but considering who Oliver is and who Felix has become, that suits them both just fine.
It's been too long since they've had tea together, she insists, and doesn't talk about why exactly that would be. She doesn't bring you up, not while you were all making your way through the house, but once she's settled outside, she takes a moment. The way she looks at Oliver in this moment makes him queasy; the smile, that look in her eyes, the way her gaze takes all of him in. A woman, whose time is so precious to her, taking her time to make him feel seen. Felix is quiet, intrigued by the exchange.
Your phantom heart beats beneath Oliver's fingertips.
"You're Y/N's grandma," Oliver says quietly, breaking the tension. Present tense still, they all play pretend. She smiles, and finally leans back. The moment is broken; Felix pours them each a cup of tea. Nana takes a jammy dodger and looks over the gardens with a smile.
"Of course, dear," she says sincerely, taking a bite of the biscuit, but being so eager to talk that she spoke through half a mouthful, "and when they were thirteen they told me I was Felix's grandmother too, because they'd overheard Felix's mum talking about how she hoped they'd get married some day." Felix snorted a laugh at that, turning pink around the ears as he prepared everyone's tea, as if on autopilot.
"Does that -" Oliver begins awkwardly, but he tries to smile, "do you think in time, they would have ask the same of you about me?"
"Considering how they spoke about you," there's a twinkle in your Nan's eyes as she turns back to him, smile knowing, "there's absolutely no doubt in my mind, my dear." All you had ever done was love him; love him and stand in the way of the love he desperately craved.
Oliver watches his tea for a long while, spinning the ornate cup on its matching saucer, while your Nana almost immediately picked hers up and took a tentative sip. Watching out of the corner of his eyes, Oliver notes the way her face goes on a journey of emotions, from pleased, to confused, to a sudden realisation as she looks to her cup.
"I should have asked you how you liked your tea," Felix realises too late, apology in his voice as Nana puts her cup down with a forlorn, yet fond look.
"No, darling, it's nice to know you know how my grandchild liked their tea," and she holds her cup delicately, looking into it's warm, brown depths, "just the same as I always made it for both of us when they were much, much younger."
"I am so sorry to ask," Oliver hears himself blurt out, unable to help himself, "but how does all this love just skip a generation?" It comes out far worse than he intends it to; he means to ask how someone so loving as you come from parents so uncaring, yet how did either of those parents turn out the way they did when the woman in front of him was clearly bursting with just as much love as you had been. Thankfully, instead of being offended, your grandmother laughs.
"My daughter is a wonderful, intelligent, compassionate, impressive woman," she begins, but sighs with unmistakable disappointment, "but my late husband was never capable of even trying to be a father over pursuing his own interests, and it's one of the few traits she actually inherited from him," she shook her head, "and she went on to fall in love with a man who loved her but suffered from that exact same defect," after a beat, she looked up with a warm, reassuring smile, "it's why I love Y/N so fiercely, and so hard," her grin turns soft and adoring, looking between the two boys before her, "the only way my daughter has ever disappointed me is as a mother, but I will never be disappointed in Y/N as my grandchild."
Oliver knows there's tears in his eyes, and Felix has ducked his head. Immediately Nan begins apologising, realising she'd set both of them off. Despite this, Oliver tries to wave her away, insisting it's fine, before he asks about her; he's heard bits and pieces he thinks, but Y/N had always been so cagey about their family. Honestly he's surprised that your grandmother knows so much about him when he feels like he's barely heard about her.
Despite turning out to be an incredibly decorated artist, with paintings selling for more than Oliver's pretty sure his own family's house is worth, your Nana is quick to downplay her own successes, simply insisting that it took decades of hard work. Again, he sees you in her eyes.
"We've got a few up around the house," Felix adds, "most of them actually from before we even met Y/N," and your Nana gives him a shove, as if flustered and embarrassed by the idea. But Felix is beaming, happy to be showing off her accomplishments, just as he always took joy in celebrating you; "there's one in your room."
"What?" Oliver asked, and your grandmother also seemed surprised, though touched by the thought.
"It used to be their room, actually, but Ollie moved in there, so Y/N was staying with me," he explains a little awkwardly, wanting to skim around as many implications as he could. Thankfully she doesn't comment. All she asks is which one. Felix and Oliver both think about the room; Felix about the few pieces of art on the walls, Oliver about your time of death in the drawer. You were alive when he left you -
"That one of the stars, and that person smoking; I think you actually gave it to them as a gift," he frowns for a beat, "for when they turned seventeen, I think?"
Oh, Oliver knows that one. It's enchanting, blues so deep, so rich it's like you could swim in them, stars that seemed to actually glow on the canvas, and the hazy, dark outline of the window in the foreground, and part of a figure against the windowsill, lit cigarette the lone spot of fire, of red or orange, that makes everything else warmer for it.
"That one really surprised me actually," Nana admits, giving Felix a shrew smile, though he only seems confused, "did they ever tell you anything about it?"
"Said you painted it for them; pretty sure I remember them crying about it," he says fondly, reminiscing, "one of the best gifts they ever got, I'm not lying, they say it every year. It's beautiful." Then, as if recalling what she'd actually said, he looks at her curiously, "surprised you?"
Her smile widened into something both knowing, and endeared.
"I asked them to send me a photo, a postcard, their very best drawing, anything, as long as it was their favourite place in the world - do you really not recognise it?" The tea and biscuits are gone by now, the tea portion of their afternoon is coming to a close. Felix shook his head, almost looking like a lost child, as if he was aware there was something he was supposed to be understanding but couldn't quite get it, "Felix, my dear boy, they sent me a photo of you; that's their dorm room window from boarding school."
Felix looks winded, and a bit like he's about to cry.
"Oh you two were impossibly sweet," she reaches over and holds his hand tightly, looking over to Oliver earnestly, "you take care of this dear boy and his heart, you hear me?"
"Yes," Oliver all but trips over his words to agree, "of course, nan." And she gives him a pleased grin.
They move indoors after this, Felix quiet but lending his arm to Nana, which she takes, while she explained that usually you and Felix would visit a few times a year when they were on break, but she thought it would be best to come to Saltburn this time, given the circumstances.
"You should come see the place when you get the chance," she insisted, patting Oliver's hand.
"It's mostly where Y/N was raised before they ended up staying at Saltburn," Felix supplied with a grin, piquing Oliver interest.
"Y/N's childhood home? Oh I have to see that," he grins, and your grandmother grins brightly for a long moment.
"I'm sure Y/N would love that, they can give you the grand tour -" but her face falters, falls, as if she'd just remembered. Sombre silence, the spell is broken. "I'd love to have you around, dear," she corrects, much softer this time.
Felix lets her pick a movie, while Oliver settles himself awkwardly on the sofa. He wants to reach out to Felix, to touch his cheek, feel his boyish smile and know that it's real. But Felix isn't really even looking at him. There's something childlike about his enthusiasm here, about how he sits on his knees on the floor, watching with rapt attention as your grandmother pores over them. He practically glows as she praises his choices. When she picks one, she hands it over and he scrambles on all fours across the short floor space to the DVD player, fumbling with the case like he can't put it in fast enough. There's a softness in your grandmother's eyes as she watches the boy who has seemingly forgotten the man he is; when she looks at Oliver, its like he sees her asking how easy is he to adore, what a beautiful young man.
"You don't mind watching a movie do you, Oliver, dear?" She asks, though it's clearly an afterthought. He's already shaking his head, assuring her it's fine. Felix is already scrambling back, remote in hand. Oliver tries to make space for him on the sofa between himself and your Nana, but he seems content to sit on the floor in front of her, leaning back against the sofa with her knees gently pressed against either of his shoulders. Handing her the remote, Felix twists to give Oliver an expectant smile.
"Come here, mate," he insists, patting his lap, his legs kicked out in front of him. At Oliver's obvious confusion, Felix blinks for a few moments. It's like he's waking from a dream. His face falls, he goes to apologise, strained smile on his face, "sorry, I know that's weird, you don't have to -"
Slowly, Oliver moves from the sofa, sitting beside Felix on the floor. Your grandmother's knee is pressed gently to his back, but he's not quite sure if he's capable of relaxing enough in this moment to mind. She's playing with Felix's hair, having already started the movie.
"This is what you and Y/N would do," Oliver said softly, and rested his head on Felix's shoulder. Felix takes his hand, and laces their fingers together.
"Do you like it when people play with your hair, Oliver?" Your grandmother asks idly.
"Um, sometimes," he answers, still feeling rather awkward. He hears her chuckle warmly.
"It's okay if you don't want me to; Felix likes it so much he lets me braid it when it's long like this."
"Oh, I know Felix loves it," Oliver hears himself agree, "if he were a cat he'd be the kind to purr any time someone scratched between his little cat ears." And while both he and your grandmother share a fond laugh, he can hear Felix's smile in his words. He gives Oliver's hand a squeeze.
"I can't even argue; I wish I could purr right now."
Oliver wants to bottle this moment forever, keep it locked tight in his chest.
But the movie is a long one. One hour and fifty six minutes. Two hours rounded up. A whole two hours. Enough time to fall asleep with his head in Felix's lap the way they both said you used to. He wakes with your heartbeat in his ears, rapid, alive, left for dead.
"You okay buddy?" Felix looks at him with genuine love and concern; it's been such a long time since he'd seen that look, even with everything that had been happening, "I'm here, you're okay," he assured. Over by the television, putting the remote back, your grandmother glances over at the interaction with a warmth that makes Oliver feel queasy in this moment.
And he'll look up from the book, from his notes from the coroner's report crammed in, obscuring the end of one story while The Tell-Tale Heart begins on the other. Felix will be getting ready for bed in the other room, but he won't sleep there. He can't sleep there. Can't sleep in that bed without you, can't move the costumes from that night that hang side by side as a reminder of the hole you'd left behind in his life. Oliver will read approximately two am in his own messy handwriting, and look at the digital clock on his bedside that had read 12:07 when he'd crashed into his room and locked the door and sunk down against it. The numbers had been shining red in the darkness. On the wall behind, that starry night sky and the hint of Felix and his cigarette; a home you'll never return to hung up in the home you'll never truly leave.
He put enough coke in that bottle to kill a fucking lion. He'd given you the bottle. He'd told you he loved you. He'd left you like that.
He knew you were dying.
He'd left you alive.
Two hours.
The book snaps shut. In the silence he thinks he hears your breathing. Please, Ollie, help. Paranoia is a cruel thing, he has to tell himself; paranoia and guilt.
"Can I ask you something?" Felix joins him just as he's putting the book back in it's drawer. Oliver, heart beat racing - never as fast as the memory of yours, oh now it's all he can think about again - nods quickly. Felix sits on the end of the bed, clearly preoccupied, fussing with the buttons of his pyjama shirt. The days are getting cooler now; Oliver misses his bare skin against his, but he still feels too precarious to make such an observation.
"It's about Y/N," Felix swallows, can't meet his eyes, "about that night." Oliver feels his mouth go dry; the worst fucking night of his life. The night he doesn't know if he'll ever figure out if he regrets all he'd done.
He nods again.
"Were you the last person they spoke to?" It's like Felix is forcing himself to not shy away from this moment, giving Oliver the attention he thinks he deserves for such an important question. Then, after swallowing hard, he can't help but drop his gaze, "why," he can barely get it out, there's already a lump in his throat, "didn't they come into the maze too?" Oliver can't even give him that.
You'd been such a mess on your way to the maze, even with Oliver supporting you. Crying, furious, apologetic; you were everything at once. Even when you couldn't bring yourself to go in, everything about you had been sliding from one emotion to the next. But then it had stopped.
"I can wait for Fi here." It's the most sure that he'd seen you all night. It's when he knew. It had to be you, even if he loved you too. He'd never forget how clear your smile was, how sincere you'd urged him into the maze to follow the tail of what he thought was right. The sight of you, waiting, obedient and loyal for your master to return; "I'll be here, I promise; I'll wait."
Oliver knew before he'd even entered the maze that Felix's return to you would be too late.
In the present, Felix waits too, diligent, expectant. Oliver thinks about lying. Oliver thinks about how the truth will break his heart. Oliver thinks about how close Felix will hold him in his guilt riddled grief.
"I don't think they wanted to interrupt -" Oliver tries to start, but Felix immediately swears, hangs his head.
"Can't fucking believe I did that," he spits, "I was angry, and off my fucking face, sure, but that was fucking low, even for me," he admitted, pitching himself back on the bed, whole face scrunched up with guilt, barking out an upset fuck far louder than the others, prompting to Oliver to tentatively ask what he means. Felix took a moment, as if forcing himself to calm down, before he admits, voice low like he was sharing a secret, "I never even took Eddie into the maze," he sighed. After a beat, he conceded, "no, okay I did, but we didn't do anything - we made out a bit, but -"
"You didn't fuck you ex-boyfriend in the maze," Oliver connected the dots quickly, "but you did fuck your best friend's ex-not-girlfriend who you kind of stole from them, out of spite after kicking them out of your the bed you've been sharing all Summer?"
"Fucking hell, Ollie!" Felix sounds especially wounded when he lays it all out like that.
"Sorry," immediately, Oliver apologises, knot in his stomach when he hears Felix's pained tone. He wonders if this was what it was like for you all through the night of his birthday. Fuck, he can't think about that.
"No, but you're right," Felix admits, eyes finally opening, looking all hurt and vulnerable. Oliver lays himself down next to Felix, going the other way, both of them looking up at the ceiling. Oliver's hands rest on his chest, trying again, softer this time.
"So was a special place to them?" He gets no response other than a guilty nose from Felix, "you think that's why they wanted to wait by the entrance?"
"They wanted to wait for me," Felix says weakly, clearly in his head about that night once more, "didn't want to interrupt even as I was fucking defiling our-" but he catches himself turning bitter again, mouth snapping closed, "after everything I said that night," he mumbles, "fucking hell," he chokes out. The pain in his voice is audible. This is the sweet spot, Oliver thinks.
"I can wait for Fi here," Oliver whispers amid Felix's faint sobs.
"What?"
"You asked me what their last words were," Oliver told him as softly as he could manage; Felix sits up, eyes wide, distraught, so full of guilt and love and - "only thing they were properly coherent about; waiting for you," Oliver props himself up, reaches out to wipe a tear from Felix's cheek.
"You're not- Ollie, please tell me you're not kidding," Felix practically begs.
"I can wait for Fi here," Oliver reiterates, making sure to meet Felix's gaze as he holds his face, "'s the last thing they said- they said; I'll be here, I promise; I'll wait."
God he can see it in Felix's eyes; it's like the man's entire world crashes down around him. But he clings just as Oliver had hoped he would. As Felix holds him tightly, Oliver can't look at the glaring, red numbers of the clock on his bedside, the constant reminder of the two hours where he could have done something. Two hours and those wouldn't have been your last words.
He looks at the painting. At the stars. At Felix and his cigarette and your idea of what home looks like. The stars look just like they did that night. Just as bright. Oliver closes his eyes. Guilt twists people into shapes they don't often recognise; Oliver just holds Felix, hopes they twist into something together.
Except Oliver's guilt isn't the kind that twists, it's the kind that bites. It's like moths, eating him from the inside out. The guilt leaves him with jagged edges and thoughts he'd rather not be having; there are shades of Felix Catton that he loves, but shame and revulsion bites just behind the guilt as the months pass and he realises more and more this is not what he wanted. This is not the Felix he wanted.
Felix is like an echo, like the sun without it's warmth; he can look just the same, smile, talk, charm just the same if it was required of him, but there was something clearly missing from every interaction. Guests to Saltburn would pull his parents aside and ask if everything was alright. He is, but he is not the same as he once was.
Every day Oliver looks in the mirror and sees something grotesque behind his eyes that no-one else seems to notice. Felix Catton was meant to be the prize, the one who tossed aside everything but the best, the one who made the world fight for his attention, and feel heartbroken when he merely looked the other way. After all this, Felix Catton was not someone Oliver expected to be bored by.
Oliver Quick had lied for, lied to, betrayed the trust of, worked to gain the trust back of, loved, made fall in love with him, and literally murdered the love of his life who he also loved and was themselves also in love with Oliver while still considering Felix the love of their life, just to get a chance to spend his life by Felix fucking Catton's side. He wasn't allowed to not want this.
Felix smiles at him, says he loves him, fucks him, but it's not the dream Oliver once had. Something is always missing. No. Oliver deliberately took that thing away. But he can never admit that, nor can he ever regret that; too far gone. Oliver doesn't want to talk about the past, Felix can't being himself to talk about the future. Trapped together in the present, living lives that no longer feel like enough. Their routine becomes suffocating. Even Venetia, the few times she's stopped back at Saltburn, can barely manage a disdainful look, as if merely inconvenienced by Oliver's presence.
The growing apathy of the estate and it's occupants is exhausting. The cost of this lifestyle has long since surpassed it's value. He's even bored of being haunted. Two hours feels like fucking nothing when the days drag on the way they have been. Behind his eyelids he doesn't see you begging for help, you hiss for him to run, to get out.
He should have listened.
"Ollie, can I show you something I found?" Felix sounds bright today, and though Oliver wants to roll his eyes at the idea of anything in this house being new or novel enough to show off, he smiles back instead.
"'course Felix, what is it?"
Except Felix isn't smiling at him. Felix is looking far more serious and determined, sitting on the edge of their shared bed. Oliver immediately frowns.
"Have you been hiding something from me, Ollie?" It's a trap; a forced confession. Oliver shakes his head, plays dumb. Felix takes a deep breath, the kind that shifts his whole body, his expression remaining firm, "before I show you this thing, I want you to be honest with me; you promised you wouldn't lie to me anymore, you remember?" Oliver tries to lighten the mood, leaning against the window with a warm smile.
"Of course, my lovely Felix, no more lying," he assures, but the hairs on the back of his neck stand up with the way Felix remains quiet.
"What's seven-past-twelve mean?" Felix is watching him closely; too closely. Scrutinising his every move. It's like Oliver's been doused in ice water, even his tongue frozen in his mouth, "and what's it got to do with what happened on the night of your birthday?"
Felix doesn't even look at the night table as he opens it; his gaze is solely on Oliver. It's clear he'd done this before, pulling out the book, flicking through it's pages, and pulling the delicate, incriminating piece of paper out from where it had been safe for so many months.
"Felix, I-"
"What does twelve-oh-seven mean?"
Oliver is the deer again, trapped in Felix's accusatory gaze. For just a moment, Felix's voice drops, pleading with him for some other explanation, that Oliver wasn't somehow caught up in what happened, more closely, more malevolently than he'd ever said -
"Tell me," there's tears in his eyes, the furious kind, the ones where he's desperate to love and hope against all odds, "Oliver," he pleads through gritted teeth, "tell me you didn't know."
"Know what?" Oliver's voice is a hoarse whisper; he knows he is caught, all he has left now is borrowed time and a desperately silver tongue he doesn't know if he can rely on anymore. But Oliver's tragically weak denial is enough for Felix to all but jump to the right conclusion.
In a rush, Felix has Oliver by the collar of his shirt, pressed to the window -
"You knew they were dying and you fucking left them there."
This is the tipping point, the end of whatever good this had been. Felix could hurt him, Felix had hurt countless people on your behalf, he'd seen it himself. But Felix had always been the bleeding heart; you were the one who had to be kept on a leash. Felix could hurt him, could probably maim him for what Oliver was about to say, but he never shared your stomach for true Machiavellianism.
"Of course I knew," Oliver managed coldly, despite Felix attempting to crush all the air from him, "the amount of coke I gave them in that champagne could have killed a rhino-" it needed to be unforgiveable, the confession, so Felix would let him leave, would never want to see him again. He hadn't expected the force of Felix's rage to have the glass behind him give out.
Oliver falls from the second story window into the hedge garden below. Felix's shouting is tearing through the whole house it seemed, making his way downstairs, while Oliver tries to regain his breath and figure out if anything's broken. He's pretty sure it's not, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt as Felix drags him by his feet from the hedges, demanding at the top of his lungs that Oliver get the fuck out of Saltburn.
Every single person who'd been in the house comes outside to view the commotion, to see Oliver struggling to his feet, to get away from Oliver. Elspeth looks helplessly between the two boys, wondering what happened -
"Tell her what you did," Felix demanded, once more getting into Oliver's space, jabbing at his chest, "tell her what the fuck you just told me -" and Oliver's strength isn't insignificant, but Felix is in a fury, flooded with rage and adrenaline, and he grabs the back of Oliver's shirt like he's scuffing a cat, shoving him towards his mother like an offering. Oliver struggles because he feels like he has to, feels wild, feels feral, but it's the most of anything he's gotten from Felix in so long. His mouth stays shut, won't give him the satisfaction of a confession.
"He killed them," Felix doesn't even let Oliver have his power play before he grows bored. He shoves Oliver just a little, grip unyielding despite Oliver's best efforts, like he means nothing to him. Elspeth and Sir James are confused, looking between them both, but Felix isn't done with stringing Oliver up for all of Saltburn to see, "Y/N; he intentionally dosed their drink and left them to die outside the maze."
The Catton parents immediately look crestfallen; it's the first time in months Oliver's felt genuine guilt again. Oliver stops fighting. Felix lets him go. Elspeth asks him if this is true; that heartbroken hope is going to make him sick.
"Just send me away already," he drops his head.
"Oliver," Elspeth's voice is firmer this time; when he looks up, she's stepping towards him, tears in her eyes despite how hard she's clearly trying to hold herself together, "is Felix telling the truth?" Is this it? Is this the final gate to his freedom from Saltburn.
"Yes."
Elspeth slaps him so hard her ring draws blood. Oliver hadn't thought that was even possible, but his head is ringing from the collision.
"Get. Out." She hisses with absolute malice as he's hunched over, clutching his face. Felix is by his mother's side in a heartbeat, arm around her, looking at Oliver with contempt. Behind them, Sir James is ordering Duncan and the other staff members to get Oliver off of the property as quickly as possible, but the look in Elspeth's eyes is burning, "this is my family, you monster."
At first, it almost feels worth it to leave Saltburn. To leave the Cattons and their bullshit and their games behind. He thinks he knows them well enough to trust that they don't want the kind of scandal a murder on their hands would be, and for the most part, he's right.
It's not the Cattons who haunt him after Saltburn, though they may be pulling the strings. It's you. It's you sitting on Felix's bed in his dorm room reading every single detail of Michael Gavey's file with threats on your tongue. It's the casual way you talked about being able to access his academic files to change his grades if he wanted. It's you, tipsy at Saltburn, admitting that you got Eddie transferred without his consent to a university on the other side of the country after he cheated on Felix with Venetia.
There's no place for Oliver to return to at Oxford... He's not entirely surprised about that, however, there's also apparently no record of him ever attending. Any calls or enquiries he makes are shut down with the kind of immediacy that seemed reserved for shows about government conspiracies. When applications open for other universities, it seems websites shut down the minute he fills out his damn name. Nowhere in the world seems willing to consider him.
Having him audited seems like overkill. When it happens the next year, despite no employer willing to even consider him for an interview, the existential dread of his situation sets in.
Felix never had the stomach to finish the job; he'd let you haunt Oliver forever.

i bet you've seen this one plenty of times before, but:
can you rec some drarry fics where jealousy is an important motif? it can be infidelity if they're an established couple, or just getting with someone else while the two of them are dancing around one another. would be great to see recs both where harry is jealous and where draco is jealous. i prefer a happy ending, but i'll be grateful either way.
since i'm here let me also say i admire what you do, your incredible ability to recall and sort through so many stories. this fandom is lucky to have you! <3
Hello friend! Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it â¤ď¸ here are some fics centered on jealousy. I did a few other lists for this trope over the years, you can find them here, here and here.
Jealous Harry:
Hourglass Heart by @bixgirl1 (E, 5k)
It only happened once â depending on how Harry counted.
Utterly Yours by @lazywonderlvnd (E, 6.5k)
Draco gets back at Harry for his late nights as an Auror by flirting with the new Arithmancy professor. Harry's not usually the jealous type, but he has his moments.
Intention by @the-sinking-ship (E, 7k)
Harry really ought to listen to whatever Ron is saying, but it becomes impossible to focus when a familiar figure across the pub curls his fingers around another manâs tie. And when that man leans in with a wolfish smile, Harry sees red, and all he can think is mine.
on the divine agony of longing by @flimsi (E, 25k)
Speaking to Draco is like poking a beehive - and Harry is a glutton for punishment. In which Harry makes some serious blunders and then tries to fix it. Somehow.
Around You Moves by ignatiustrout (E, 29k)
Harry knew Draco was gay when he invited him to move in. Heâs never had a problem with this. So why does he feel so weird about Draco bringing men home all of a sudden?
Two to Lie and One to Listen by @fluxweeed (E, 84k)
Itâs weird when Hermione announces that she and Ron have broken up. Itâs weirder when this is followed by the revelation that sheâs already moved onâand the new object of her affections is Draco Malfoy.
this heaven of mud by @garagepaperback (E, 94k)
A love story told in two somewhat unreliable parts, over six years. Featuring secret shagging, to friends, to the 'how is it fair for someone to say your name like that' sort of friends, to, finally, someone you could call a home.
Grounds for Divorce by Tepre (E, 122k)
Malfoy finds a coin. Harry finds a letter.
Jealous Draco:
Packing the Flat by marguerite_26 (E, 6k)
Months after their explosive break-up, Draco insists Harry return to their flat to remove his belongings.
Don't Stop It Before It Begins by mischieviolet (E, 19k)
âI donât understand how this is of any concern to you, Malfoy,â Harry said, crossing his arms over his chest. Draco blinked at the use of his last name, something that Harry only used with him in jest these days. âIâm merely spending time with my Auror partner, who is from another country, and has no one here. I would do the same if it were you.â âItâs not me though, is it?â Draco all but shouted, unable to stop himself.
The Partner, The Rival and The Very Big Case by oceaxe (E, 24k)
When Harry and Nott are paired up to go undercover as fake boyfriends, Draco is disappointed not to get the assignment. It's just professional jealousy that's making him feel so upset. Obviously. He's engaged to be married to Astoria, after all.
(The Piece) I was Missing All Along by lauren3210 (E, 30k)
Draco and Harry have been flatmates and best friends for years, and Draco thinks life is just perfect that way. But when something comes along and threatens to take all that away, Draco has to decide what it is he really wants, and just how hard he's going to work to get it.
Make Me a Headline (I Want to Be That Bold) by @dictacontrion (E, 31k)
Draco never expected to see Harry doing that again. Especially with someone else, in a grainy photograph that's landed on his desk one Monday morning.
Nights With You by @the-sinking-ship (E, 58k)
Draco is mortified when moments prior to departing for the most anticipated destination wedding of the year, he is cruelly dumped. But when he learns that Harry Potter has, at long last, split with his horrible boyfriend, Draco is certain his luck has changed.

slow dancing in the dark Âť bae irene
pairing ⼏ joohyun x reader
genre ⼏ angst (fluff + smut)
summary ⼏ on her date, joohyun comes to the realization that there's nobody that she wants other than you. hopefully, she's not too late.
warnings ⼏ dom reader, sub irene, oral (idol receiving)
WC ⼏ 5.5k
part 1 | part 2
joohyun watched junmyeon's lips move as he talked on and on about his business deals at work. she would say she was listening to him, but she knows better than to lie. to be completely honest, her mind was in a different place.
this date was way different than the first.
their first date had felt so much more easygoing and fun, but only now she could tell the romance was missing. it felt like he was only talking about himself. she adjusted her hair and her dress, feeling oddly uncomfortable. this is not the same sweet charming guy she talked over phone with, and she was starting to see through his facade.
she was thinking of inviting you to join them earlier, before she had left, but obviously she wasn't going to make you tag along on their date because she didn't want you to actually meet him until they were officially dating like she had done with her other relationships. seeking your approval was always her number one priority because you knew her more than she did herself, and you were a little protective. nevertheless, you always closely examined each guy she brought to you, making sure that they had good intentions, checking if she had misjudged their motives. you were like the shield to her warrior.
maybe that's why she felt a little more awkward, or uncomfortable. she knew your presence made her feel safer and she was starting to feel uneasy with the man, sensing that he was slowly getting cockier and more rude as time passed. you never made her feel like this, never made her feel so little or inferior. clearly, he was trying to do that by flaunting big business words and bringing up his famous clients.
she knows that if you were here, you would've set him straight and told him off for making her feel upset. she blushed as she thought about you defending her like you usually did, always being straightforward and scolding someone if they even dared to hurt her. you were always the one to protect her, so of course she would've wanted you here tonight. she also would've enjoyed the dinner more if she could hear you talk about something dumb rather than this snooze-fest of a topic.
she also thought about whether you did want to come and were just afraid to ask. she's brought you on dates before, usually when she meets up with someone she doesn't know well. though, those relationships never lasted, they always ended it because they "knew her heart belonged to someone else".. anyway, you usually did everything together so it wasn't that odd for that to be the case. you did look quite down when you left her place.
"joohyun? you okay?" startled, she was brought back into the moment when she heard him.
joohyun locked eyes with the man in front of her, "hm? yeah i'm fine, why do you ask?" she put on a forced smile, trying to pretend like she wasn't ignoring his rambles.
he inspected her face. "it didn't look like you were really listening." because she really wasn't. this entire time she had been trying to figure out why this date was just boring. she hated to admit it, but this was not what she expected the date to be like. she thought it would be like the movies where she'd come to the conclusion that she had finally found her soulmate.
she could tell that he wasn't anywhere near to having that title. she needed a way out of this, any second longer hearing about how his business clients tried to finesse him and she may go crazy. "junmyeon, you're a good person but i really can't sit here and waste your time." she sighed at his shocked face, his ego clearly damaged. "i don't think this is working out for me."
"what? wait hyunâ"
"don't call me that, there's only one person who's allowed to call me that." she said sternly. his eyebrows shifted and he wore an upset expression, but she didn't care. that was the nickname you gave her, so she never allowed anyone but you to call her that. not even her parents. it ticked her that he did, she always made sure that the precious nickname was reserved for you.
"joohyun," he corrected himself, "can't you just give me a chance? for me, this date has been great and i think ending things here would be stupid! i'm really the perfect boyfriend for you." he pleaded before reaching for her hand, but she dodged it, scoffing at his childish behavior.
she begins gathering her belongings, trying so hard to not roll her eyes at him. "who are you to decide what the 'perfect boyfriend' is for me? maybe i'm not wasting your time but rather my own." she stood up, looking down on him like he was scum.
he clicked his tongue in annoyance. "should've known a girl like you was only good for her looks." he muttered under his breath and leaned back in his chair.
she's fuming. "don't call me or contact me, or else." joohyun took her bag off the chair and began to speed walk away.
"or else what? you're going to get your loyal puppy you call your best friend to come and fight me?" that made her pause and she could hear him getting closer as he followed. "she'd probably do whatever you command her to. after all, she clearly just wants to get in your pants just like the rest of us."
a slap echoes in the now silent restaurant.
everyone watched as joohyun struck junmyeon right across the face, the sound of her hyperventilating and a couple of murmurs the only audible noises to her. she was mad, livid even.
"it is not your business what y/n does, nor is it okay for you to judge her like you know anything about her. you must have some nerve to think everyone is as much of an asshole as you. i've known her for years. i've been her best friend for years, and i've seen every side of her. i'll decide what her intentions are with me." junmyeon held his hand right over the cheek she slapped, bewildered by how hard she hit and how defensive she was of you. she muttered some other insults under her breath as she collected herself.
she took a deep breath and looked around, realizing that everyone was looking at the two of them. she felt a little embarrassed, not about defending you, but because she was disturbing the innocent bystanders who were just enjoying their dinners. she gave a small bow to apologize for making a scene, and glared at the man who was still standing there not saying anything.
she needed to leave asap. she felt so angry that she wanted to cry, so upset that she got involved with someone like this. at times like this, your consolation was all she needed to make the anger dissipate. "once again, don't try to contact me." joohyun made clear before storming off.
the moment she reached home, she took off her heels, switching them with house slippers, and threw her purse onto her counter after she got her phone from inside of it. she called her only pinned contact and waited to hear your voice.
instead, she heard her own voice in the form of a custom voicemail, the same one she made for you when you both were still in high school. "hello! if you are trying to reach y/n, she can't pick up the phone probably because she's too lazy to... anyway leave a voicemail or call again later!" why was it sending her straight to voicemail? joohyun was confused because you would always wait for her call, especially if you knew she was going out with someone in case of an emergency. it wasn't like her calling you was out of the blue, it was a regular thing. she could even recall the days you stayed up all night, saying you couldn't sleep because she didn't call.
she called once more and ended up with the same outcome. at this point she was already extremely upset, mostly with what went down at the date, and she wanted your comfort. she grabbed her keys and decided she would just go to you. either way, she wanted your presence, no, she needed it. it was like an urge that she could just not brush off, she needed to talk to you. without changing into her shoes or even changing her outfit, she got into her car and drove off.
once she reached your street, the first thing she noticed was that your car wasn't in your driveway. when she typed in your passcode to your door, she also noticed your shoes were also missing. usually when she came over, she would scold you for leaving your shoes all over the place as she put them away.
but this time, there weren't any shoes for her to pick up.
where could you have possibly been at 9 pm? the fact that you were more of a homebody made it even more odd.
joohyun went to your bedroom to lay on your bed, planning on just waiting for you to return. minutes that felt like hours passed and she felt herself nodding off, your comforting scent on your pillow lulling her to sleep. she was out cold by 11, still in her red dress as she didn't bother changing because she thought you'd be back sooner. otherwise, she would've just slipped into one of your baggy tees.
but as the sun rose and shone through the window of your room, you were still nowhere to be found. she shot up in a daze, looking around to see any trace of your return. nothing. you were still missing and she was starting to get nervous.
joohyun opened her phone and tried your number again, the same outcome. she called your parents, thinking it was probably the only place you would have been overnight, but even they said they had no clue where you were and that you weren't answering their calls either. joohyun apologized for calling so early in the morning and it was probably nothing to worry about, hanging up. she didn't want to drag them in and make them worried too, ultimately deciding to search for you on her own.
she was out of ideas, she had no idea where you were and joohyun was sick to her stomach just thinking about what dangers you could be in. you could be lying dead on the floor for all she knew. she curled up in your sheets and snuggled close to your pillow again, seeking comfort in it by hugging it and smelling it, imagining it was you. praying you were safe, she took a nap despite having just woken up.
five days had passed and joohyun was still in your bed. she only ever got up to cook something to eat using what you had, which was mainly instant foods because you relied on joohyun as she loved to cook you your favorites. when she met your mom for the first time when you were younger and she learned about all of your favorite dishes, she promised that she'd make all of them for you even if you grew up and learned how to cook on your own.
great. now she was crying again, it's like she was reminiscing memories of someone dead. she hugged her knees to her chest and sobbed. her worries got the best of her and she was not only worried now but also scared. it had been almost a week and there was still no sign of you anywhere, on your socials, your dms, nowhere. she felt like she was dying not being able to do anything but wait in your home.
she already called the people she knew and they didn't know, called your favorite places to go and they couldn't recall you ever showing up, and she didn't know what to do other than wait. was she supposed to report you as a missing person? joohyun was so lost, not knowing what to do. she sniffled as her tear ducts were completely drained and a wave of sleepiness hit her like a truck. your pillow was decorated by her tear stains and she just hugged it closer, wishing you would just send her a message that you were okay.
she fell into a deep slumber as it felt like the only thing she knew how to do in this state of mind. not even the sound of the front door being opened woke her.
when you had returned, you spotted joohyun's car in your driveway almost instantly having seen it so many times. what was she doing at your place? why wasn't she out with her boyfriend?
you quietly entered through the main entrance. even if it was your house and you could've come in as loud as you wanted, you wanted to avoid startling your sensitive best friend, assuming she was somewhere in here. there, you were at it again, unconsciously caring for the girl who belonged to another. reality sucked and you felt embarrassed that you cared so much when she didn't reciprocate your feelings after all.
the house was dead silent so with soft footsteps, you walked around in search of joohyun. as you passed the hall leading to your bedroom, you noticed how the door was wide open when you remembered shutting it when you left. for a second, you thought about the possibility that she had brought him to your house, but she knew you rarely let people into your house, let alone a total stranger.
you peered through the open door and saw a joohyun sized lump in your bedsheets with one of your pillows missing. silently, you fought the urge to just jump on top of her and throw away the five days of your friend's "therapy sessions" (you just cried on their couch and explained everything in incoherent words). you were supposed to be working on moving on, but seeing her again made it feel impossible.
you approached her as quietly as possible as she was quite the light sleeper, sitting on the empty space beside her. you gently peeled the blanket from her face, praying you won't be stepping over any new boundaries. she was just as pretty as you thought she was, but her eyes were puffy and a little red and there were faint tear streaks on her cheeks. you found your missing pillow, but it was stained with tears as well. not only that, but joohyun was still wearing that red dress she looked so beautiful in. that was what she was wearing when you last saw her though..?
before you put the puzzle pieces together, joohyun began stir awake. she felt the bed had sunken into and turned around to see you sitting there with a confused look. she stared at you blankly for a moment. "hyun?" it took a second for her to process that you were finally home and when she did, she launched herself at you, wrapping her arms tightly around your torso. you were taken aback by the force of her tight embrace, but you melted in her arms, rubbing her back as she started to cry into your shirt.
"you're back.." she mumbled into the fabric, inhaling your natural scent mixed with the scent of fresh laundry.
in a sudden burst, she put both her hands on your chest and shoved you back, forcing you to get up off the bed and stand as her breathing got heavier. her sweet expression quickly switches to an angry one and you are so confused by the change in her demeanor. you try to get closer to her given the distance she made, but she moves farther away on your bed.
shit, you should've known you were getting too cozy when she's already taken. you've gone and made her uncomfortable. nice one, dummy.
"hyun, i'm.. i'm sâ"
"how could you..?" joohyun asked, her voice quivering as her eyes brim with tears. you felt a tightening sensation in your chest at the sight of the distressed girl. and to even think that you had hurt her when you worked so hard to protect her heart from all pain.
"hyun, i'm sorry. iâi truly didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, i was just thinking about myself."
she furrowed her brows. "what?"
"there's obviously a line and i didn't mean to overstep it, nor did i mean to disrespect junmyeon. i was just so used to our usual skin-ship that i wasn't thinking about it" once you say that, joohyun begins seething.
"are you stupid?! that's not the problem!" she blows up. "the problem here is that you decided to leave out of nowhere without even calling me or messaging me once! i called everyone, even your parents!! and i felt so hopeless not knowing what to do."
she had it wrong, you didn't think it was going to be this hard on her. you just wanted to fix yourself and heal your broken heart. "hyun, i wasn'tâ"
"i was here panicking when you were probably frolicking around, partying with other people, enjoying yourself. you just disappeared and i was worried.. i was so worried." the tears spill over, and she's now a crying mess. the gears in your head went into overdrive trying to understand her. she thought you were out having a blast, being a party animal? you..?
now you're upset. "me? 'frolicking around'? what, you think i was out clubbing or going to bars, doing something fun?" you asked with a mad tone.
the switch in your vocal tone caught her off guard."yes.."
you scoff. "seriously? that's not even close to what i was doing, but okay, whatever you want to believe joohyun." you ran your hand through your hair, sighing deeply, trying not to get mad with the way she accused you of something stupid. she was clearly not okay and you weren't going to get upset at her. "i'm going to leave, call me when you want to talk."
she fist tightened, her nails digging into her palms. "of course you are, you're good at leaving." she felt a surge of emotion through her veins. anger, sadness, she felt it all when you said that and she gave up. you bit your lip, feeling like you were about to boil over. she read into your expression of disbelief, "you know how hurt i was?"
"you were hurt?!" you yelled. joohyun flinched at your volume, which you noticed, but you couldn't just bottle this up forever and act like you were okay just to protect her. "what about me? i was hurt too when you made me sit through that date, watching you flirt and laugh with some man you met a few days ago. i was hurt when i watched you talk to him over the phone when we were supposed to be hanging out. i was hurt that someone you spent so little time with managed to steal you away from me so easily, even though i've been by your side for years."
you quickly tried to wipe the streams coming from your eyes, but they just kept pouring. joohyun sat there so lost, perplexed by your shouts.
"what.. what are youâ"
"for years, i've been in love with you, joohyun."
joohyun's eyes widen and her arm that was holding her up gave out for a split second. her puzzled face made you want to laugh in pain. you spun around and made your way out of the room, desperate to get out as quickly as possible.
you snatched your keys off your kitchen table and stuffed them into your pocket, slipping on your favorite pair of shoes that you left randomly placed at the front door.
before you could even put on the first one, joohyun slammed you into the wall, pinning you against it. if it were any normal day, you would have let her do her thing and just stood there flustered, but you were over it. "joohyun, move." you command, trying to gently pry her off of you.
"no!" she cried, doing her best to prevent you from slipping out of her grip. she was really afraid that you were going to leave her this time.
"joohyun."
"so stupid.." she mumbles and you furrow your eyebrows. soon, you were going to get wrinkles.
"me, stupid?"
"you are! you really think i want that bumbling idiot?" she growled.
"well, yes? i saw how bright your eyes sparkled when you talked to him. you love him, i can tell." you remembered how stoked she was after the first date, spending her days on her phone, talking to him.
obviously, that's not how she recalls it. "how are you going to tell how i feel?"
"i'm not stupid joohyun."
"well maybe you are because i'm in love with you too."
you both just gaze into each other's eyes, feeling the tension lingering in the air. your eyes slowly shifted down to her lips that were slightly apart, listening to her breathing pick up its pace. you wanted to kiss her so badly, her plump lips so tempting to taste. seeing that you weren't going to make the first move, joohyun placed both of her hands on your cheeks and inched forward, capturing your lips into a kiss.
the leisurely kiss slowly turned into a heated make out. the sounds of your wet kisses were deafening, the entire place dead silent otherwise. she was starting to pin you more by leaning her body onto yours, pressing you completely into the wall as her hands snaked around your neck. it was making you dizzy, feeling her body on yours. you tilted your head and bit her lip, allowing you to slip your tongue in to explore her mouth. joohyun let out a small moan in return, surprising you.
you broke the kiss, your lungs crying for air as you try to figure out if this was going the way you hoped it was. scared she did something wrong, joohyun looked down and frowned. you put a hand on her chin, lifting her head up so you could continue. "joohyun. do you really want this?" she nods eagerly, her excitement showing through how quick she responded. "i need you to say it out loud."
"yes, please, i want this." she pleaded. without wasting a second, you latched onto her neck, sucking and biting, leaving purple marks behind. she tried not to moan in fear of making you stop again, which she did not want at all. the pleasure was overwhelming for her, overwhelmingly good at least. you picked her up and she yelped as she wrapped her legs around your waist, your hands supporting her underneath her thighs. while you carried her to your room, she pushed back your hair and pressed kisses on a sensitive spot under your ear.
you opened your door with your foot and went straight to the bed, laying her down on her back. "turn over." she listens to you and flips onto her stomach. you go for the zipper of the dress and slowly pull it down, revealing her silky skin and pink laced bra. you hum in approval of her choice on undergarments, enjoying the view from behind. she whines, protesting your speed, urging you to hurry up.
she brings her hand to yours on her back to take over, but you slap it away. "don't rush me, joohyun." the authority in your voice makes her quiver, the heat between her legs intensifying. "i'll make sure you know how to be patient by the time we finish here." you say with smirk, loving how you can affect her so easily as she lets out a breathy sigh.
once the metal reached the end of the zipper, you placed your palm on the lower part of her back, making her flinch at the contact. you pulled down the sleeves of the dress and undressed her, revealing her pink lingerie set which amuses you. you toss the dress to a corner, careful not to ruin it as it was a cherished gift of yours. your eyes traced her fame, admiring how gorgeous her body was in pink.
"you wore this to your date with that douche? you got all prettied up for him?" you ask, a little mad just thinking about her wearing such a lewd thing for someone other than you. she nodded and pushed herself up with her elbows, shifting to face you, a little shy that you were seeing her in this. she puts her arms over her chest and groin. you grab her arms firmly and move them out of the way, allowing you to see her completely. "funny you think he deserved any of this."
you let go of her arms and grope her right breast, to which she lets out a squeak. "this," you give her a squeeze, making her moan out. "is mine. understood?" she just nods again, eyes closed as she focuses on the works of your hand. you move your hand around to her back and feel for the hook of her bra, undoing it with one hand. you tugged it off, the sight of a topless joohyun absolutely one of your favorites.
you forced her back until she was laid down flat, latching your lips around her perky nipple. the new sensation made her throw her head back, her nipples very sensitive. she felt your teeth gently bite on her nub and soothe it with a swipe of your tongue. at some point, she stopped caring about being loud or not, it was very obviously going to be impossible to be quiet when you knew how to pleasure her so well.
your lips left her chest and slowly worked its way down to her stomach, leaving a trail of kisses every inch of the way. you looked through your eyelashes and saw that she was just watching you so intensely, clearly waiting for you to relieve the ache that was only growing the farther down you went. just to tease a little more, you started to go the opposite way of where she wanted you to go.
joohyun whined for the nth time and pushed your shoulders back until you were face to face with her clothed pussy. there was already a wet spot forming on her underwear, the smell of her arousal intoxicating. with your pointer finger, you press onto the wet patch. her whole body seems to react as she tenses up, crying out, and you snicker at how sensitive her body was.
"stop teasing me, please." she begged.
"fine." you began rubbing her heated cunt through the fabric, and all the tension left her body. her small whimpers fueled you to get straight to the main course. you take her panties and rip them, tearing them off of her so you could have full access to her sopping pussy.
"hey!" she sits up halfway using her elbows, "do you know how much this set was?!" it was like steam was coming out of her ears. joohyun always valued everything and took care of her stuff with care so that they would last longer. you just laugh and look at her, the fact that you didn't give a shit was written all over your face.
you hold up her torn underwear with one finger, "baby. i can buy you as many as you want, but you are not keeping this." you take the pink laced set and tossed it to the side. "as if i would let you wear this lingerie after you bought it with the intention of having someone else take it off of you." you muttered.
your eyes take in the sight of her fully nude with her legs spread open, her wetness glistening in the light. once again, she felt shy under your gaze and forgot that she was even mad in the first place. she tried to close her legs, but you palmed her crotch, your hand getting covered in her juices. the pressure you apply makes her moan as she slowly begins moving her hips, grinding against your hand.
you let her do her own thing for a moment, taking the chance to get impossibly closer. you remove your hand and replace it with your tongue, giving small kitten licks to her bundle of nerves, each paired with a small whine. joohyun gasped as you sucked her clit and swirled your tongue around it.
"fuck! h-haah, why are you so good at this.." she asked between breathy sighs. you let go of her nub with a small pop before dragging your tongue down her slit. she was soaked. you slurped up her wet, slick juices and dipped your tongue into her, making her emit sounds at a pitch you didn't even know she could reach. you pick her thighs up and put them on your shoulders. as you devour her, you circled her clit with your thumb.
her mind is foggy, the unholy thoughts of having you ravish her all day, every day being the only thing she can think about. no one knew how to treat her like you do, how to pleasure her, how to make her feel good. comparing you to her past relationships and few one-night stands, there was really no one better than you.
you pausing made her perk up, unhappy with the loss of contact. "no one better than me, hm?" your teasing smirk infuriated her, realizing that she let her last thought slip out. she put her hand on your head and pushed you back down.
"shut up, i didn't say that." she lied.
you took it as a challenge, a taunt. "oh really? so you need me to prove that there will never be anyone to please you like i do? consider it done, bae joohyun." you stopped talking and dove in, clamping your lips around her engorged bud. without warning, you plunged two fingers into her sopping pussy. she screamed out in surprise by the complete 180, going from soft and gentle to rough in the blink of an eye. the mix of your fingers thrusting in and out of her with the biting and licking of her clit brought her closer to her climax within minutes.
"fuck-!!" she put both of her hands onto your head, raising her hips trying to press herself harder against your face. "gonna cum, i'm gonna cum!" she warns, but her higher pitched tone with her antsy movements gave it away already. you sped up and curled your fingers into the spongy flesh. you pressing onto her g-spot sent her over the edge, her back arching as she gasped.
she went silent before her body started shaking violently, her soft, warm thighs crushing your skull in order to keep you in place and she came. you removed your fingers, but continued to lap up her gushing juices, making sure not to let a single drop go to waste. coming back down from cloud 9, she loosened her hold on your head, scared she hurt you because she needed an outlet for the pleasure.
all worry was wiped clean as you came upon with the biggest smile on your face, looking like a kid on a sugar rush. around your mouth and on your chin were the remnants of her orgasm, the thin coat shining in the light. she hummed, "i think you got a little something on your face." she joked, pointing to you. you poke your tongue and cleaned your lips, wiping the spots you couldn't reach with the back of your hands.
"all gone?" you ask. she shakes her head no and leans in, licking a strip on your face.
"there, all gone." she says innocently as she bats her eyelashes at you. she was so close that you could feel her breath on your face. she was so clearly staring right at your lips so you close the gap, smashing your lips into hers, allowing your lust and love take over. when you broke it to prevent yourself from suffocating, you saw how she's surprised by your energy. "what?"
"you thought i was done with you, hyun? i still have years of daydreams and fantasies that i need to fulfill. unless you're too tired?"
her surprised face transitioned to a snarky one, her energy matching yours now. "i'm never too tired to make up for lost time." she shoots back before pouncing onto you like a hungry fox hunting its prey.
the whole night was dedicated to you showing joohyun just how much you needed her, wanted her, and she got your message. she felt it in every touch and in every whisper.
you finally got the chance to express your deep and unwavering love for her. no more slow dancing in the dark.

Final stretch! 25 please!!
"Why do you guys all look so different?" Frankie asks, hands on her hips as she stares at the family photo.
Cody shrugs. "That's just how siblings look."
"No," Frankie says, crossing her arms. "It's not. Siblings look like each other. Siblings don't each have a different eye color!"
"That's-" Cody's shoulders rise to his ears. He feels oddly defensive about this, but his siblings are all his siblings! "That doesn't make us not siblings!"
"That's not what I'm saying," Frankie says gently, and her hands go back on her hips. "I'm saying I think at least three of you are adopted."
"I'm not adopted," Cody snaps.
"I think you're the only one who isn't," Frankie replies, cool and calm despite Cody's aggression. "Remember that time you got turned into an adult? You looked exactly like him! Everyone else, though..." she trails off with an abstract gesture of her hands, and Cody takes a second to consider her point.
She's... she's kind of right. He really looks nothing like his siblings. None of them even have blond hair!
Cody taps his fingers together. "You might have a point," he concedes. "I'll ask my dad."
"Good." Frankie grins and punches his shoulder. "Make sure to tell me what he says, okay?"
-----------------------------------
"Is Kade adopted?"
"Am I what?"
Cody decides to pop the question at dinner, just in case his dad tries to dodge it. After a little more talking with Frankie, they'd decided the best way to frame it would be to ask if Kade's adopted, what with the flaming red hair and all.
Graham briefly chokes on his food and Dani starts laughing, but Dad puts his fork down and sighs.
"Oh, I figured this would come up eventually," he mutters, while Kade is spluttering. Dad slaps Graham on the back, who's hacking up a lung now.
"I'm not adopted," Kade finally settles on, seeming more offended than anything. "Dad, tell him I'm not adopted."
"None of you are adopted," Dad assures him, then addresses the table. "But even if you were, that wouldn't make you any less of a part of this family."
"Then why do we all look so different?" Cody asks.
"Well..." his dad taps the tips of his fingers together. "You all have different moms."
"Knew it," Graham mutters, but Dani's jaw nearly hits the floor.
"Really?" she asks, then starts rapidly pointing between her and Kade. "We don't-?"
"No." Dad sighs heavily. "But you're all my kids."
"Now that that's out of the way," Kade says loudly, dropping his chin into his hand, "I've been meaning to ask this for ages. Are there any more of us?"
"No!" Dad snaps, clearly offended. "My own children think so little of me," he drawls, actual annoyance melting into a teasing tone. "Do you really think your own father a-" he stops suddenly, gaze drifting to Cody. "A- uh... would I lie to you?"
"Yes!" Dani pipes up, crossing her arms. "I thought Kade and I were full-blooded siblings this whole time and you never bothered to correct me?"
Dad shrugs. "You never asked. I didn't want to upset you. Which I clearly have."
Dani splutters again, then sinks back into her seat, muttering.
"I've always had a hunch," Graham says, voice still a little hoarse. "Like, look at us. There's no way."
"I do find it funny, sort of," Dad hums, picking up his fork again. "All these kids and only one of you ended up looking like me. Although," he says, nodding towards Kade, "to this day, I still have no idea where that hair of yours came from."
"Maybe you are adopted," Dani teases, and Kade kicks her chair out from under her.
Cody settles back into this chair and goes back to eating while his siblings argue.
It feels nice to know that even though he knows the truth now, nothing's really changed at all.

Something that I couldn't put into words but now I can about the Chaggie conflict in "Rosie" and one other reason it hurt: Charlie questioning Vaggie's loyalty. Yes, I know it wasn't because of Vaggie's origin but because of the lie itself but still hurts and clearly hurt Vaggie - she has been nothing but loyal and honest in Charlie's dream and has only ever done 1 lie in all of that. And when it's revealed, Charlie is now questioning everything - Again, I understand but it still hurts. And I know this might be redundant, I WANT this moment to come back again in S2. I don't know how but I want Vaggie to admit how angry/hurt it made her that Charlie questioned the loyalty she has given without asking for anything. What do you think?
i don't think Vaggie was even slightly angry with Charlie until her girlfriend made a magically binding pact with an unrepentant serial killer the second Vaggie wasn't looking XD
......we're asking a bit much by expecting the woman who hates and judges herself over her own mass murderer past... to then be upset that her girlfriend was also hurt and angry about that and reacted badly to randomly having all that dropped out of the clear blue sky in the middle of an already terrible day...
so in that ep got the vibe Vaggie spent the entire time feeling sick and guilty over the whole thing tbh. As usual
(and her feeling very very not good about seeing Alastor getting all creepy mentor with a Charlie who just got a wedge driven between her and her main emotional support- im 100% sure Vaggie's "Charlie can we talk-?" following Alastor's "good girl" thing was her wanting to know EXACTLY what deal her gf just made with Alastor and what the hell she was thinking and charlie are you sure Vaggie can't just stab him a little as a warning-)
But Vaggie, she's also not really uh. Not got a good track record of wanting or letting Charlie know about her feeling bad about stuff, emotions wise. Even when Charlie is right next to her reaching out. That's not her thing???
ah what the hell tangent time
like one big reason Vaggie DIDN'T fess up her past to Charlie was her being scared Charlie would be hurt by it and actually hate her for having done that, because Vaggie is being hurt by her past and hates herself for having it (re: every time she's called angels like herself deranged), so even though the blackmail against her made NO real sense and Adam's threat was just him not understanding that someone (charlie) could ACTUALLY believe in redemption for LITERALLY anyone (she does), it still pinged Vaggie's fear right in the heart, making the stuff like how Charlie is letting a known serial killer live in the hotel and help out with her and Vaggie's dream go RIGHT out the window-
(to be fair from Vaggie's pov there's probably a BIG difference between ending someone's mortal life on Earth (a la normal sinner seral killers) and presumably destroying their entire soul forever (re: exorcists) so like, that's kinda fair, but it still doesn't include how Charlie is WILLING TO WORK WITH AND THINK THE BEST OF HEAVEN AND THE EXORCISTS ANYWAY which is WHY she thought going to heaven to talk with them could work in the first place)
(to be extra fair it doesn't MATTER how much Vaggie trusts Charlie bc Vaggie had body parts ripped off and her eye permanently gouged out and was abandoned in hell by someone ELSE she use to trust once and THAT means really trusting people not to hate or abandon her is gonna take her putting some more blame on Adam and Lute and co and less on herself, because as long as she focuses on what SHE did (murderer) to make all this happen TO herself (filth like you doesn't deserve-) she's never gonna fully get that what happened to her was a choice shit people made (let's exterminate ppl for fun! let's rip off our comrade's wings and eye without hesitation!!!), one they didn't have to make, one she didn't make for them- meaning non-shit people like Charlie probably won't do that to her, actually, bc people like Charlie will care about Vaggie as a person outside of her being useful or being exactly what is wanted. Like how Charlie was more worried about Vaggie at the end of ep 3 than anything else and wouldn't let Vaggie blame herself and was fine with things being hard as long as she and Vaggie could face them together. Like how Charlie was calmed in the More Than Anything reprise not by Vaggie promising to fix everything but by Vaggie saying Charlie is important and wonderful to HER)
if anything Vaggie might be upset if she found out Charlie had less of a problem with the Exorcist thing than with the lying thing
If you (Vaggie) think you still need to EARN redemption, then having someone say your sins don't bother them so much can ironically make you panic and either think they're lying to you OR it can make you worry you've downplayed what you've done and are somehow tricking the person you love into believing you're a better person than you actually are and therefor might be taking advantage of them, which of course you don't want to do because you love them, which is a pretty big contradiction you probably won't notice is there
Sooooo i could see Vaggie spiraling into something like THAT but,
her be angry at Charlie for being upset over the thing Vaggie hates about herself? the mental health levels aren't good enough for that one yet XD
basically both Vaggie and Charlie got to live through the very fun experience of being trapped in your own head and trauma
anyway, the fact that Charlie didn't ask or want or LET Vaggie do an apology for any of that at the hotel gates says more than enough for me, for both of them. Just like with Vaggie putting her own fear and self-loathing onto Charlie, most of Charlie's pain in that ep didn't come from Vaggie's past or Vaggie's lie.
I've said Charlie's bad at figuring out what she's feeling and ep 7 is where it really bit her in the ass- she got hit with an identity crisis (turns out the one person who always believes in her didn't trust her enough to tell her this) (this on top of the epic fail of their shared dream to save sinners from extermination and the looming destruction of the hotel that represents that dream) and trauma trigger (what if Vaggie lied about all of that too, what if she never really loved or had faith in Charlie, what if Charlie is going to be alone again) without understanding that's what was going on or that it was something coming from herself as much as from Vaggie.
Being away from Vaggie didn't reduce Charlie's stress during that ep, it made it worse, until Rosie had to yoink her in for an emergency counseling session. Before that Charlie vents about how she told Vaggie everything and shared everything with her (the exorcist thing gets a TINY throwaway mention it is NOT the focus here) and when you add the lie revelation to how Vaggie asked to be alone on the roof in ep 3 instead of letting Charlie be there for her, it stops being about ONE lie TO Charlie, and turns into YEARS of lies ABOUT Charlie's place in Vaggie's life.
Which was terrifying and painful and... went away the MOMENT Charlie realized Vaggie did actual love her and believe in her, and was not actually going to leave her.
If actions mean more than words then their reunion at the hotel gates is them both saying the only thing either of them want to hear- I missed you, i love you, i want to be with you. Here's this horrible souvenir i picked up for your while we were on opposite sides of town and thanks babe im gonna fling myself into your open arms about it.
Vaggie hates herself too much to feel like Charlie owes her an apology for being hurt and angry at the Exorcist lie. It was a pretty big thing to keep hidden
i mean murder aside, Charlie had no idea Vaggie's opinions and advice about heaven was from personal experience, she probably assumed it was just normal sinner bias against the people who kill sinners and not, you know, Vaggie secretly dissing on how terrible her former boss and co-workers used to be. Maybe Charlie would've approached the talking to heaven differently if she'd known. Maybe she would've tried strangling Lute's hologram in ep 1. we will sadly never know
we DO know that Vaggie ran to hug Charlie right after the secret was revealed, which means Vaggie was mainly worried about Charlie being hurt by it, which doesn't really leave a lot of room for Vaggie to be upset at Charlie when Charlie does turn out to be hurt by it
so Vaggie wanting an apology from Charlie? I see her more wanting a very, very, VERY long hug
but if Charlie ever tries giving an apology anyway (a la the balcony scene in ep 3), that might just freak Vaggie out and fuck her up with "oh no my gf doesn't understand how bad the things i've done are am i tricking her am i using her would she be better off without me" issues for the foreseeable future ^w^;

always hold you
pairings â tasm!peter parker x bff/gf!fem!reader
summary â in which, she needs her boyfriend's support more than anything else, after another particularly bad fight with her father.

warnings â a little bit of angst, use of pet-names [dove, sweetheart, darling, love, bug], reader calls peter pete, lots of fluff and this is basically just a hurt/comfort fic, protective/soft!peter, this is also sort of similar to my other peter fic (take as a part two that one), peter comforting reader, mentions of the reader's low self-esteem issues and it being explained a bit more, both physical and emotional abuse (manipulation and gaslighting, but not from peter), hugs and cuddles, forehead kisses, peter just taking care of the reader and showing her the love that her family refuses to do, gwen is in here for a second and being the comforting platonic best friend that she is to reader, peter comes off as a little harsh and scares reader a little bit but he makes up for it in the end.
notes â hi! so, this is really more of a vent fic. i know i've written in the past about dealing w/ a toxic family member and how i really enjoyed writing fics similar to my experiences with my favorite comfort characters to comfort the reader because that would usually help me deal with everything. but recently, the abuse that me, my mom, and my brother have been experiencing has become a lot more complicated and traumatizing for me to deal with. and things have only gotten worse. so, i figured i'd do another comforting fic like the other peter fic i wrote about going through that said abuse. i really just feel that it's important to not hide my true feelings and act like everything's fine behind a screen and i just want to be able to talk about this topic a lot more (especially in my writing), because it's so serious and not nearly talked about enough. but, nonetheless, if there's anyone out there that sees this and is a victim of abuse (whether it's emotional/mental or physical abuse, or both) please don't feel obligated to read this. i really don't want to trigger or upset anyone who's dealing with this situation in a very heavy and overwhelming way. just remember though, no matter what anyone says or does to you, you ARE strong and deserve the entire world. i love you all <3. anyways, i hope this makes up for the lack of posting anything (i've been really struggling with a lot, but i'm trying!). gif and divider creds to owner!
p.s., feedback is very much encouraged and appreciated <3.

IT'S OBVIOUS NOW THAT SHE was stupid to think that he could change. it was even more stupid of her to go back to that apartment.
but, she's always been one to see the best in people â in her case, it's come to bite her in the ass.
even now, as she awaits her boyfriend to return home from his nightly patrol around the city, [y/n] knows that she should've known better.
she trembles as she sits on their shared bed, one of her legs bouncing anxiously â the thought of how peter will react to her foolish decision and the outcome from it is stressing her out, beyond words.
after how he responded the first time he found out about the truth about her father's cruelty and what she'd had to go through, she's worried of how he will react this time â it took almost everything in him to not confront her father, when he first found out.
she abruptly jumps when she hears the front door of the apartment shut softly.
a shaky breath leaves her lips, wondering if it's too late to try to hide the marks on her face and body.
but, when she hears him call out her name from the living room, she knows that it's too late â there's nothing she can do now to hide this.
and even if she wanted to for a split second, she promised peter she'd never lie to him again â after the last time, they promised each other that they'd never hide anything from the other again.
so, with another shaky breath, [y/n] sighs and hesitantly pulls the bedroom door open.
she keeps her head down, her hair falling around her face and covering the marks as she walks out and into the living room.
"sweetheart..." peter's voice trails off, eyes wide with shock and worry.
her breath catches in her throat as soon as she finally looks up at her boyfriend and sees the intense, protective look in his eyes.
"iâi'm sorry, peter." she whispers, voice too raspy to get any louder.
a flash of anger fills his eyes. "please... tell me that you didn't go back to him!" he exclaims in a quieter tone of voice as he pinches the corner of his eyes.
[y/n] flinches at the amount of frustration in his voice.
"peter, iâi'm sorry... " her voice trembles, guilt and regret quickly filling her â she just feels so stupid.
peter sighs, regretting taking his anger out on her.
his eyes immediately soften. "sweetheart, i'm sorry." he murmurs, before starting to walk over to her.
but, before he can reach her, she flinches and winces.
he stops short, freezing in place. more guilt fills him as he realizes that in this moment, she's scared of him.
"look... iâi know that i shouldn't have gone back," she whispers, tears clouding her eyes as she remembers the anger and hatred in her father's eyes.
peter's silent for a moment, waiting and giving her time to explain more â if she's able to.
"i'm... i'm so stupid, peter." she whispers, too ashamed to talk any louder.
peter's eyes widen in shock, not expecting that statement to come out of her mouth. "wâwhat? darling, that's not true."
this time, a tear falls down her cheek. "yes, i am. peter, who's stupid enough to choose to believe that their abusive, monster-of-a-father can change? me â it's me!"
the rambling and the self-loathing words coming out of his girlfriend's mouth becomes incredibly clear to peter as he walks over to her.
this time now, he doesn't hesitate to pull her into his chest as her voice becomes more trembling and wavering, "this is on me â it's my fault."
"it's okay now, love. don't blame yourself." he murmurs as she stops holding herself back and breaks into breathless sobs into his chest.
after a while, her crying slows and quiets down with her tears now dried on her cheeks.
she faces him and takes in a deep, calming breath as he wipes away the remaining tears away and looks over her bruises more intensely.
"i wanna kill him for doing this to you â again." the venom in his tone sends shivers through her spine â knowing what he would do to protect her comforts her.
but, on the other hand, she also knows that hurting her father isn't going to do anything for them or fix anything.
"no, peter. i know you don't mean that." she murmurs seriously.
an angry frown places itself over his lips. "no, i do."
she sighs. "okay, maybe you do. but, it won't fix anything and we both know that," she says, moving one of her fingers up to smooth out the crease in between his very furrowed eyebrows.
"it's okay now â i'm okay." she whispers seriously, grabbing his hand and rubbing soothing circles over his thumb.
you'd think from how she's comforting him that peter was the one that got hurt, not her â that's just how she is; she always finds herself taking care of everyone else, when she really should be taking care of herself.
maybe that's why they're such a good pair â while they're taking care of everyone else and their loved ones, they can trust the other to take care of the other.
"that's the thing, love. it's not okay! you shouldn't have to go out of your way to avoid him, just to protect yourself." he exclaims, ripping his hand out of hers and this time pacing around the living room with his hand now gripping his hair in frustration.
she sighs, frowning â this is exactly why she didn't want to tell him because she hates worrying him like this.
"it may not be fair, but if it's what i have to do to protect myself, then that's what i'll do â i should've kept doing that, instead of being an idiot to believe he'd change." she admits, shrugging, trying to play this all off, as if it's not that big of a deal.
"don't say that â don't do that!" he abruptly yells, turning around to face her defensively.
she flinches â once again â at the volume of his voice. "don't do what?" she asks meekly, her voice too soft.
he sighs in regret. "i'm sorry. i'm not trying to scare you." his eyes are downcast at the floor, before he looks up again, the guilt clear in his irises this time.
"it's okay, peter." she gulps, berating herself for some part of her being afraid of him â after all, she has no reason to fear him because he'd never intentionally hurt her.
"it's not. i shouldn't have gotten so angry â i'm not mad at you, i promise," he says in a much more quiet voice, sighing as he sees that look in her eyes â the one that she always has when she feels like a burden and feels like she should be apologizing.
"sweetheart, don't even think about apologizing. none of this is your fault."
[y/n] sighs in exasperation. "maybe it is. i'm the one that is always making a fool out of myself by believing in the best of everyone."
she sighs when a flash of irritation shows in his eyes. "what?" he whispers, his eyebrows furrowing together.
she takes in another breath when he walks over to her and hesitantly places his hands over her cheeks.
[y/n] sighs again.
"this isn't your fault, love. know that," he murmurs, his eyes searching hers for some kind of understanding. "please, tell me that you know that."
she sighs again, noticing the tears filling his eyes â it becomes incredibly clear to her how much the man in front of her cares about her.
"peter... " her own eyes fill with tears, even spilling to her cheeks.
without another thought, he gently wipes away her tears. "promise me that you understand me."
she sighs again. "yâyes, i understand," she murmurs, hating the hope that fills his eyes. "but, i just don't believe it."
he opens his mouth to object, but she interrupts him before he has the chance to say something, "i want to. but, i can't just shut off the way i feel â i was raised the way i was and with the trauma i have gotten along the way, i can't just forget it."
more tears fills his eyes, before he moves incredibly closer to her and brings her close to kiss her forehead. "knowing you want to believe it is good enough for me."
when he pulls away from her he smiles warmly at her. "let's go cuddle now, yeah?"
the softness in his voice makes her smile. "sounds like a plan, pete." she murmurs with a nod and leads him to their shared room.
once they're inside of their bedroom, [y/n] walks over to their shared bathroom, to change into her set of pajamas she set aside earlier in the day, after she had just gotten back from her father's home â she used to call it her home, but that all changed once her once-very-close relationship with her father changed.
after she changes and brushes her hair and teeth, she takes in a deep breath and tries to mentally prepare herself for the rest of the night.
but, when she shuts off the light and opens the door, she comes to realize that the bedroom is empty.
she walks out of the bathroom and looks around, her eyebrows quickly knitting together in confusion.
and just as she's about to call out her boyfriend's name, she hears hushed voices outside of the room.
with much more confusion filling her body, she slowly walks out of their room and into the living room, only to see peter standing at the door, talking at the door in a hushed voice.
"pete? is everything okay?" she asks as she walks up from behind him.
he jumps a little in surprise, before motioning towards the door.
the blond hair of their current guest surprises her.
"oh, gwen. hi." she greets her best friend and then her boyfriend, wrapping her arms around his waist and leaning into him with her chin resting on his shoulder.
"what are you doing here?"
gwen shrugs. "i just wanted to check up on you â your dad called me, yelling at me because he thought that you'd left to go hide at my apartment."
the words that come out of one of her best friends' mouth shakes [y/n] to her very core â anytime she hears anything about her father, she gets easily nervous and scared.
in a matter of seconds, [y/n] slowly pulls away from her boyfriend's body.
she knows that she should try to pretend everything's fine and as if her friend's words don't affect her, but she can't help it.
if she had a few more seconds, she'd probably fall into a state of mind where she'd completely shut down.
but, when a light touch to her shoulder by peter shakes her out of her daze, she sighs and nervously finds her boyfriend's eyes on her.
"what's going on, guys? did something happen?" gwen asks worriedly after seeing the tense look on [y/n]'s face.
peter doesn't speak. he doesn't even look away from his girlfriend â his eyes simply say that the decision is all hers.
despite the fact that him and gwen are pretty close friends, he's always respected [y/n]'s choices.
with a sigh, [y/n] turns to gwen. "i kind of had a run in with my dad earlier."
as she hears that statement, gwen begins to notice the bruises on her best friend's face.
she frowns. "are you okay?" she asks, but after a moment, she groans and rolls her eyes at herself.
"i'm sorry. that was insensitive â of course you're not okay."
[y/n] laughs, despite the seriousness of the situation. "it's okay."
gwen gives her a pointed look, not believing for one moment that what she asked was okay.
"really, gwen," she says, finding some courage inside of her. "i'm probably not okay. but... " she trails off, suddenly feeling like everything is going to be okay with the ones that truly love her by her side.
"for the first time, i think i'm going to be okay â that everything will be okay." she says confidently, moving even closer to peter and practically burying herself into his arms.
gwen smiles. "good. i'm glad."
âââââ
AFTER A LITTLE BIT MORE of talking, they all finally say their goodbyes and peter shuts the door gently.
they move over to the couch, peter covering them â mostly [y/n] â with one of the fuzzy throw blankets that was lying over the front of the couch.
"you doing okay?" he asks softly as she lays her face into his neck.
she smiles, feeling reassured for the first time.
she lifts her head back up to look at him.
"i know going back was stupid. i doâ" before she can continue, he interrupts her with guilt evident in his brown eyes. â"i'm sorry, bug. for how angry i got earlier."
she tilts her head in confusion. "what do you mean?"
"i shouldn't have gotten upset with you. and i'm sorry for startling you. i was just worried." he murmurs seriously, frowning at her confusion.
"i just... every time i think about your dad being near you or hurting you, well, it drives me crazy, sweetheart." he says, trying to ignore the anger in his voice every time he thinks about the type of person his girlfriend's father is.
"pete... it's okay. i'm not going to go back â i learned my lesson." she says, cupping his jaw with one hand, in order to try to calm him down.
he sighs, leaning into her hand and covering it with one of his own.
"that's the point, sweetheart. you shouldn't have to be cautious and scared to avoid him, so that he doesn't act like that. it's not okay."
she frowns, wishing that she could stop him from worrying.
but, she also knows that he needs to get these feelings out and off of his chest.
"tell me, peter. what is it?" she asks, being the understanding girlfriend that he loves â no matter how cliche that actually sounds.
"i love how good-hearted you are, sweetheart. the way you always see the good in everyone, despite what they've done to you â it's amazing," he starts, pulling her hand away from his jaw to hold over one of his legs.
"and i never want you to stop being that person. but, i also hate that you have to avoid him. you shouldn't have to give up your happiness and peace."
she nods in clear understanding.
he groans again, leaning his forehead over hers.
"it's okay, peter."
he pulls away and opens his mouth to say something in defense, but she stops him by speaking before him, "peter, i know it upsets you that he doesn't get to be punished for his actions and i get that."
he stops short, giving her a chance to finish talking.
"i know you hate that. but, i know that you love me more than any urge that you have to give him what he deserves â and that's what i need you to do, okay? love me more than you hate him." he frowns at her words.
as if noticing his hesitation, she says, "for me. please?"
he sighs in defeat and nods. "fine. for you." he murmurs as he pulls her closer into his embrace and body.
she smiles in victory as she lies her head on his shoulder. "i love you, peter parker. you know that?" she murmurs, cuddling up close to him.
"i know i can always count on you." she says, once more, smiling as he chuckles and stretches over to kiss her on the forehead.
"good. because i love you more and i'll always hold you when you need it, dove." he murmurs, smiling at her calm and at peaceful face.
and like that, they cuddle until they fall asleep with peaceful expressions on their faces.

This is going to be my only post I ever do THIS. It needs to be said (if even only for me). Be warned. (& I'm totally being a little funny & unserious with my words, but I also mean it). but really I just need to be so silly for a moment..
I've been in some fandoms and every fandom goes through this, but...There's no fandom on earth that quite literally walked in with no changes to the picture of the Community meme like the Bridgerton fandom. yayyy! we made history again We are the exact same picture, because it wasn't that bad! I can nearly guarantee you, people noticed the quality change, but it literally wasn't bad like you say! Some of us truly stumbled in here like wtf, and still haven't gotten the answer. Stumbling into Part 1..was stressful, but Part 2 was actual insanity!
like, I honestly don't think some people watched it all the way (i saw something about ppl finishing in 2 hours)! If they even went back, who knows?! But the takes are just literal fables!
I actually think the blind trolls coming back from the dead & thin air for part 1 have deluded some of you into thinking that part 1 was bad (it wasn't; it was good), and as a result made you think that part 2 was worse than it is. I totally respect your differing opinion, but you're wrong!
There are 2 real "issues" with this season and the other stuff is artificial grass.
#1 The lack of happy couple moments that get replaced by boring side plots (part 1 was actually enjoyable to me, but this one I actually almost fell asleep watching Benedict before I was awoken by his bi awakening). But to be frank, it's always been an ensemble, and I find it funny that people forget: People bitched about polin season 2; they bitched about Penelope since season 1.
The fact that they don't get a full episode 8 of being happy in love was criminal (but i will admit my wrong expectation, because this is Bridgerton (what else is there to expect, lol). However they are cute! Naysayers, deny it all you want, but they are literally perfect! They are literally a cute engaged couple, the moms including Lady Danbury cannot help but squeal over them, and the only thing holding them back is that this conflict is seemingly dragged on, BUT it doesn't even go on long! (perhaps it felt that way because there were only 4 in this batch of eps). And I get you can be upset, but stop the bullshit because "WE WERE ROBBED." You are lyyyyinnnnnggggg.
He finds out in 6! Anthony was with her sister for 6 eps ... Simon....avoided her til she had to make the move at the end. If we're including Queen Charlotte, George got the most cohesive story, but we'll chalk that priviledge up to the fact that he got only 6 eps; and also don't lie, the recycle-rinse-repeat episode was boring(!!!!) minus the last scene & the visitation of his trauma (u can disagree w/this, but I was bored the first time watching and didn't ask for the copy & paste same episode).
#2 is the pacing (really the last 1â
-ish episodes is the problem)- because I wish they made up by the end of 7, which is really more of the same of what I said about them being happier in the final one. However, (which brings me to my point) if they'd shifted him finding out earlier... (again they only had 1 episode prior to do this in (because there was no way it was happening in part 1 even if the 2 part split never existed), ...it could have fixed most likely all of this: if everything was moved up an episode (+ they switched Cressida's reveal + Colin finding out), they'd be fighting in 7 but united for Cressida's lie, then they'd make up by the end, and they wouldn't still be struggling with differences between them in the first part of episode 8 at all, thus there would be the happy couple moments from my point #1.
And I newly realized how this aspect of polin's season arc compares to the others. The conflicts of the other 2 seasons have been more heavily external obstacles preventing them from really getting together, while visiting some internal demons later after the drama; but this season is pretty much just them with internal conflict between them (if not for all of part 1 then for the entirety of part 2! (i personally think that the Debling stuff is less love-trianglry than what they've done in the past & fr he is in 2 eps really and not even fully courting her for majority of it)! Enemies to lovers does have internal conflict between them in the beginning, but it's not something actually between them that's "preventing" them from riding into the sunset (other than fake fighting like they hate each lol i say w/love 4 the characters & E2L). But since Colin and Pen's conflict is actually her (Whistledown) it maybe feels like they are more at odds than what is truly going on under the surface. Because they are established to love each other already unlike the other couples, who you are seeing the journey and getting to the end. While Part 2, you are seeing the unraveling of an established couple even though the love is there and the only important reason you need to get how they can work it out. We won on complexity and realness harder than the people w/bad takes can fathom, they have to make stuff up!
The other (kind of related for some) stuff:
The sex scenes: I get it! They lied (lol)! I hope we get them! But we know why it's lacking; they're deleted scenes; they exist! But the carriage scene - HOT. The mirror - HOT. The 30 second scene (lol) - HOT. But again: K*nthony got 2 spicy scenes their season! S*phne got a montage but it kind of sucked looking back (i'm not seriously hating but you know that it was too much, literally even then i think ppl knew) but plz don't start the ship discourse again & PLZ DO BE LOUD ABOUT THESE SCENES THO, I NEED THEM (lol)
But the love confession.....sssssssss. There were so many!!! *that book one is not good, i'm sorry (i'm being lighthearted here; you can disagree w/it but I do kind of hatttte it!)
"They didn't include..." don't know if you know but the writers make the story. Their story is not the book. You knew what you jumped into. (you can be sad but..) [i am not touching the conversation on Fran. But if we're really being real that side shouldn't wanna be grouped w/the side of The Departeds who are forever the head of online harrassers....by - now causing official pages to disable their comments (you don't have to tell me it wasn't all of you. I know đ). it's actually kind of funny how I did not know like 95% of the actual discourse those first couple days (and there's a lot of discourse to see). but, anyway my main concern this whole post are my top 2 mcs. [ps the Departeds I meant traveling; i'm not that mean]
The misinterpretation of Colin: if you hate him, then go away! Thnx 4 the record-breaking views!
The baby? Cheers to 2 years in the future w/baby No Name! *lol* I'm not gonna say you shouldn't be upset about the name. For me, it was fine, because I knew they'd be back for s4. Also, preparation guys, I doubt we will even see the child that much if Daphne is any indication.
This show has never been comparable to your favorite Oscar-worthy film (literally obviously!), but the show is not terrible like some very widely popular of what's out there (and i'm not even talking about bad shows that everyone knows are bad). There is some depth to the characters and some ingrained-trauma to living in a male-dominated society with no autonomy, and traumas to the men as well. Re: the choices and drama every season. It's... a drama show! People need to go re-read the fantasy books if they want happy, lack of conflict all the time (and men yanking their wives by the wrists)... Go read fanfic if you don't like the show and a certain couple. Bridgerton is escapism and in some crazy overtaking of loud voices in the fandom, this fandom has been one of the least escap-ist fandoms ever. Because people will be like "*suspending my disbelief*" every 2 secs, but ...babe that's not doing what you just said. There's embellished "Based on a True Story" documentary fans that do this better than you tbh (i'm being a lil funny here, but honestly)
And I simply need to say this, regardless that it won't change, I need the acknowledgment jokes and the mental cleanse. if u don't want to read Ă The fandom...bro. I'm not even upset, I actually laughed at some of this - like, there's 3 types of people:
#1 offended people responding to op posts, because they don't like what they said; lol, the hypocrisy! The amount of people in my comments in this past month alone if I said something positive...abt the show, abt the characters...anything (new posts, old post) is more hatred than ever ever. The good polin fans are sensitive, but any and every bad typists in the comments are so easily offended...over positivity. Why.are.you.bitter?
"I'm bitter cause.." I literally don't care
#2 people reblogging things they hate to say what they hate. thnx for the notes??? bro, some comments on other ppl's gifs (rants on what they didn't like, crying abt a character/why they hate a character, and sometimes it has nothing to do with the scene gifed).
#3 "I'm allowed to be upset." why are you fighting for this? You can! Go in peace. Some people had no issues with what you say, but you are fighting this because you are determined to make people agree with your negativity no less. If you cared about the courtesy (i know that you don't) you'd let some ppl bask in what they weren't disappointed in & were excited to end the journey with (*and i expect nothing from the haters, but some of this was coming from inside the house lol). The reason you were wrong for this is because YOU WERE WRONG! There are ppl that liked it. You have no control; I get it. dw i'm sure you'll be fine.
Anyway, if anyone even read this far, you rock 4 that. If you got it, we're healing from this dumpster fire together; and if this even made 1 person laugh or feel better, it's worth it. I'm actually good now but it was rough that first stepping into the chaos and I had so many thoughts at first, so i wrote a lot from the initial shock those moments, [and now i'm in the laughing about this bullshit phase] so if u get it u get it (and can maybe have a chuckle) >>> This is literally just your neighborly (if ur nice here) joke!post *we're laughing thru the pain* / w/e to you (if you're not because i need to & this stuff isn't new & that one goes for all divisions of the fandom not just the main contented one of this post)
#tags for your enjoyment >#i had to be petty; it's the principle#welcome to the jungle if ur new here#bridgerton#bridgerton spoilers#polin#colin bridgerton#penelope featherington#penelope bridgerton#update i'm kind of laughing and crying (at the same time) through the pain#becuz i wasn't gonna post any of this rly#i do not expect the ppl i'm talking abt to be kumbaya abt this but the alternative is bad so y not b funny#i'd love to open my asks to talk with you all but i might be stupid to do in this climate#i'm usually so nice#but i need the laugh#ps ps. the departeds i meant traveling! The contrast in how Daniel and Robby talked about each other in s2e10 really sticks out.
The morning after Moon's party, Daniel and Amanda realized that Sam hadn't come home.
Amanda: "It still keeps going to her voicemail." Daniel: "Robby's not picking up either. You think they're together?" Amanda: "Well, they are teenagers who have been living together all summer." Daniel: "No way, I'm not ready to go there. You know, I... Trusted Robby. Sam better be okay."
Daniel didn't just get upset that Robby may be dating Sam. Daniel immediately believed that Sam might not be okay because of Robby. Instead of thinking that maybe something bad might have happened to both of them, Daniel was already thinking poorly of Robby; that he was responsible for Sam not coming home because of some wrongdoing on his part. Little did Daniel and Amanda know that Sam had been the one to pursue Robby after he'd turned her down because he didn't want to ruin his relationship with Daniel. Yes, it was Robbyâs decision to eventually date Sam, but Sam knew how precarious Robbyâs situation was and he had even reminded her of that, but she still led him to believe that she was now interested in him, despite her still having "complicated" feelings about Miguel. Before the party, Amanda told Sam that Amanda knows she can trust Sam to make good choices. (Ha! They still haven't learned. They later listened to Sam about Miguel being a good choice.) Overall, Daniel and Amanda didn't believe Sam would make bad choices. They only believed that Robby would.
After Daniel said that he had trusted Robby and that Sam better be okay, Amanda got into Sam's laptop and saw Aisha's messages mentioning that Sam had gotten drunk and the cops had shown up at the party. Daniel then thought to locate Sam's cell phone and found out that she's in Reseda.
The scene cut to Robby looking through some of Johnny's things and finding his childhood drawings. Robby then came out of the room to talk to Johnny.
Robby: "Hey. Thanks for letting us crash here last night." Johnny: "It's no problem. But, look, I'm gonna have to tell LaRusso about this. It's his kid." Robby: "Look, please don't. If he sees her like this, it'll crush him. Let me take the blame. I'll say I got drunk and told Sam to bring me here."
Robby's main concern was that Daniel not see Sam "like this". As a kid with two alcoholic parents, he knows what it's like to see a loved one "like this". He wanted to spare Daniel from that. Robby knew he would have two strikes against him with Daniel if Robby lied to protect Daniel and Sam from this experience: (1) Sam not coming home that night, and (2) for getting drunk and putting her in that situation.
Johnny said that he had to tell Daniel about it all. But, Johnny shouldn't have been okay with Robby taking the fall for Sam. Johnny showed that he respected Robby for his decision to protect Sam and Daniel in this situation, but Johnny should have said no. I know some will say that Johnny doesn't know how to be a dad so it's okay. But Johnny is the adult here and Robby's parent. He shouldn't let Robby take the fall for Sam, or for anyone. Johnny should have told Robby that it's nice that he wants to do that, but Sam has to come clean about getting drunk.
After this, Daniel showed up, and Johnny told Robby to hide in the room while Johnny dealt with it. Johnny of course mishandled it and Daniel became understandably more aggravated and panicked because of Johnny. They got into a fight, and Sam and Robby came out and stopped them. As Daniel asked Sam if she was okay and why she didn't call, Robby tried to take the fall, like he said he would. He didn't expect Daniel's reaction, though.
Robby: âMr. LaRusso, it was my fault. I brought her here.â Daniel: âWait, now, don't even start. I gave you a second chance. This whole thing was a mistake. You know, you wanna end up like him, that's up to you.â
It's important to note that Robby didn't even get the chance to lie that he had gotten drunk. Before Daniel cut Robby off, all Robby said was that it was his fault and he had brought her here. Earlier, Daniel had told Amanda, "I⌠Trusted Robby. Sam better be okay." Then, from Aisha's message, Daniel had learned that Sam had gotten drunk. Before getting there, Daniel had already assumed that Robby had not only gotten himself drunk but had gotten Sam drunk too. Daniel finding them with Johnny, and Johnny blocking and fighting Daniel to stop him from entering made things worse. Daniel's false assumption about Robby getting Sam drunk, plus Johnny's actions, led to Daniel's outburst: "This whole thing was a mistake. You know, you wanna end up like him, that's up to you."
The next morning...
Daniel: "If you wanted to drive your own car today, you wouldn't have done what you did."Â Sam: "Dad. How many times do I have to tell you I'm sorry? I made a mistake."Â Daniel: "Everyone makes mistakes. But when you get in trouble, you come to me or your mom. Not that guy."Â Sam: "Iâm sorry I didn't come to you and Mom. That was my fault, not Robby's."Â Daniel: "I thought I could help him. But he's got his own family. I need to focus on mine. Just do me a favor, okay? This year, just concentrate on precalculus, okay?"
Here, Daniel makes it clear. He's done with Robby. He's given up on him: "I thought I could help him, but he's got his own family." Daniel had called Robby family in s2e5, but now Daniel clearly said "he's got his own family. I need to focus on mine." Robby was no longer part of Daniel's family. Daniel's belief of Robby being a lost cause, with too much of Johnny in him, had started before the school fight.
Johnny: "You okay? You nervous about your first day?" Robby: "No, but... Just feel bad about Sam and the LaRussos. Johnny sighsâŚÂ Robby: "I know you don't wanna hear it, but Mr. LaRusso was good to me. Miyagi-Do Karate helped me out a lot." phone rings⌠Johnny rejects the callâŚ
Robby: "Look... All I'm saying is, maybe you guys can learn a thing or two from each other."Â Johnny: "All right, you better go."Â Robby: "Thanks for driving me, Dad."
Daniel's and Johnny's animosities for each other are apparent in these two conservations with their kids and have an impact on how they are with Robby. In Daniel's case, he projects his issues with Johnny onto Robby and easily gave up on him. In Johnny's case, he's dismissive of Robby's feelings and words about Daniel and about Miyagi-Do.
Meanwhile, Robby praised Daniel to Johnny and said that Johnny and Daniel could learn from each other. Robby was grateful to Daniel and was sad about losing him, but he didn't speak ill of him. Just like after Daniel had thrown him out before hearing him out in s1e9, Daniel had thrown him out again without hearing him out. In both instances, Robby didn't speak ill of Daniel or get upset about Daniel kicking him out without hearing him out. Robby was aware both times that he had screwed up and was remorseful. In this instance, that's why Robby also came clean about the medal in his conversation with Sam before the school fight.
Robby: "I have to tell you something. Miguel gave me the Medal of Honor. And I put it in the backyard so someone would find it." Sam: "Why would you do that?" Robby: "I didn't want him to earn any points with you. And we'd just kissed and... I guess I felt insecure." Sam: "Thank you. For telling me the truth." Robby: "Well, it feels better to get that off my chest."
Robby is a great portrayal of healthy masculinity. Not only did he take accountability, he unabashedly admit that he had felt insecure. Even in his conversations with Johnny earlier in the episode, Robby was expressing humility and vulnerability.
I know people really praise Robby and Daniel's relationship in s1 and 2, but I think Daniel's always had his doubts about Robby since s1e9, after finding out that he's Johnny's son. Daniel goes back and forth on his faith in Robby. Moments like those in s2e10 really stick out. Yes, Robby had screwed up, but Daniel's the adult. Daniel so quickly thinks the worst of Robby and discards/dismisses him without understanding more about the situation from him.
In s1e6, after Robby had fallen for Louie's first prank and started the car in the dealership and Daniel yelled at Robby, Daniel followed Robby as he walked out, apologized to him, and told him that he should have heard Robby's side.
Daniel: "Listen, I'm sorry for calling you out inside. All right, that's on me. I should've heard your side of it. You're not the only one with a temper around here."
But, Daniel still didn't hear Robby's side after this. Not in s1e9, not in s2e10, not in s3e10, and not in s4e9. Daniel's temper got the better of him each time. Daniel made judgements on the spot about Robby. Daniel loses his balance because of his issues with Johnny/Cobra Kai.
Also, Robby's reactions to Daniel in s1e6, before Daniel said his apology, were indicative of what he expected from Daniel (and any adult) at the time. When Daniel grabbed his shoulder, Robby immediately raised his fist to fight. Robby was expecting Daniel to hurt him. After Daniel put his hands up in surrender, Robby quickly said, "You don't have to fire me. I quit." Robby also expected immediate rejection and expulsion from Daniel. My post The Neglect of Robby Keene talked about how ingrained it is for Robby to expect abandonment and neglect as punishments. He didn't expect Daniel to hear him out, apologize, or allow him to keep the job. Sadly, since Daniel found out that Robby had hid his original intention for getting a job at LaRusso Auto and that he's Johnny's son, Daniel doesn't hear Robby out before laying down judgement on him. Daniel told Robby that he can learn from his mistakes. But, Daniel himself doesn't make the effort to recognize and learn from his own mistakes with Robby.
In s1e7, Daniel had said "He's a good kid who's had a rough go of it", before Daniel had found out the truth about Robby's parentage. After everything that happened since then, in s4e6, Daniel only remembered to warn Robby about Silver after Amanda talked about teens with anger issues being thought of as lost causes. In s5e6, when Robby called himself a "messed up kid" while giving Daniel validation that he didn't fail Robby (which Daniel did), Daniel didn't correct Robby about his negative view of himself.
In s2e10, after Sam didn't come home after Moon's party, Daniel immediately assumed Robby had done something to put her in a bad situation. Ironically, Miguel is the one who had kissed Sam while she was drunk at that party, whereas Robby did what he could to take care of her. He tried to stop her from drinking more, tried to get her food, helped her get out of there so she wouldn't get arrested, and took her to a safe place to sleep off the alcohol (although, yes, he should have taken her home). In the school fight, Miguel was the one who had attacked Robby, stopped him from protecting Sam, given Tory more of the opportunity to hurt Sam, and kept attacking and antagonizing Robby to the point that Miguel was going to break his arm for no reason at all. Miguel was the threat to both Robby directly and Sam indirectly that day in school, but Daniel doesn't seem to know any of these details. In s3e9, all Sam had to do was tell Daniel to trust her judgement, and Daniel forgot his own question about how Robby would feel if he found out about her and Miguel. Daniel also didn't think much of the fact that Robby had come to Miyagi-Do after all. Daniel was immediately ready to give Miguel a chance and even said "From one All Valley champ to another" after his first conversation with Miguel, now recognizing him as a "real" champ. This is in stark contrast to him calling Miguel "Mr. Cheapshot" after the tournament. It's hard to believe that Daniel would be okay with Miguel if Daniel knew that Miguel had kissed Sam while she was drunk. So, if Daniel doesn't know that Miguel had kissed Sam while she was drunk, that means Daniel doesn't know that important context and likely other important details about the school fight. Because that kiss did come up between Robby and Miguel during the fight when Robby asked Miguel why he had taken advantage of Sam. Also, before the school fight, Miguel told Hawk that he shouldn't have cheated on Tory, but Miguel never once considered that he shouldn't have kissed Sam while she was drunk. Makes his "She doesn't love you. She loves me." line even worse. This isn't the only instance of Miguel not respecting Sam's boundaries because he feels entitled to her. Daniel thinks of Robby as more of a negative influence/threat to Sam because he's Johnny's son so Daniel vilifies Robby so quickly, while Daniel so easily accepted Miguel once he was no longer "Cobra Kai's number one bully", even though Miguel hasn't even taken accountability for his past actions or grown since leaving Cobra Kai.
In s3e2, after seeing Johnny almost kill someone in a rage, Daniel made sure to call the cops before he could even talk to Robby first. I know people side with Daniel in how he handled the situation, but there's a huge difference between giving someone emotional and mental support while showing them that you really do believe in them and don't believe the worst about them as you help them turn themselves in, as opposed to calling the cops on them without properly talking to them first, giving them emotional and mental support they truly need, and understanding their side of what happened. Daniel didn't care about what had happened in the school fight and believed that juvie would "help" Robby, although it had been an accident. Daniel could have at least tried to put up a real fight for him, but Daniel limited his fight to what he believed would "help" Robby based on what Daniel believed happened ("I can't believe Robby would do this", Daniel said with a tone of disbelief that indicated that he did believe Robby did do this on purpose because he has too much Johnny in him). Daniel didn't give Robby the help he really needed based on what had really happened (Robby had a "fight" trauma response because he had been attacked and antagonized to his limit and was going to have his arm snapped for no reason at all by a crazy kid, all while trying to protect Daniel's daughter).
Although most love the Daniel-Robby scene in s5e6, I was saddened by it. Daniel still believes his worst assumptions about Robby, still believes all of his own poor decisions were right, that how he had handled that situation had been right. Daniel had fought for a lesser sentence for Robby, but Daniel never fought for him or his side of the story for the school fight. Robby put all that aside to be the emotionally supportive one, to be the "emotionally mature adult". Daniel was happy to accept Robby's emotional support while also being happy that Robby validated his decisions when Daniel had failed him. But, Daniel hadn't given Robby the emotional support he needed after the school fight and wasn't the "emotionally mature adult" for Robby then, when Robby really needed it. Robby is always expected to be the more emotionally mature one in his relationships with Johnny and with Daniel, but they are the adults and they need to be the more emotionally mature ones with him. And sadly, Robby's humility back in s2 had now crossed over into unhealthy people-pleasing in s5.
I wanted to talk about the contrast in s2e10 in how they spoke to and about each other because it really stood out to me on a recent rewatch of these scenes. While Daniel is rash, judgmental, and dismissive with Robby when he screws up, Robby is humble, accepting of his faults, and is open to hearing what Daniel has to say to him, that is have a real conversation with him (ever since their first conversation in s1e6). Daniel went into that conversation thinking worse of Robby, while Robby just wanted to spare Daniel seeing Sam "like this". The sad thing is that Daniel had spent so many months with Robby before Moon's party, but Daniel treats any mistake by Robby as egregious enough to warrant rejection and removal without any explanation. Daniel told Robby that his mistakes aren't who he is, but just like Daniel doesn't follow the teachings "let go to find balance" and "don't put passion in front of principle", Daniel also doesn't follow the teaching "your mistakes aren't who you are" when it comes to Robby.
Robby has such a good heart, but sadly, he's surrounded by people who don't truly care about him. His emotions and mental health are part of him, but the people around him, including Daniel, don't validate him or his experiences, especially since the school fight.
(As always, please don't comment or reblog with dismissive comments about the nuance in the story. The nuance is part of the story, and the story is exploring important topics like trauma, bullying, dysfunctional relationships, and abuse.)

My Biggest Regret
Part two:
**
Fate was on her and Chan's side. She knew it. She felt it and she could taste it. Even if It had been 3 yearsâŚ
3 years.
The calls were now non existent and the texts were now disappearing. She knew the only way to know if he was okay was through social media so she kept checking all her socials to watch over him.
She had accepted the fact that he was now a busy idol. He was making hits and creating a big name for himself and his group. He was now basically non existent in her life.
Donât get it wrong, he would try to call her here and there but it was so awkward that she just stopped picking up once and for all. He also saw that they had nothing in common at all so he also stopped calling.
They had grown apart. It was painful but that was reality.
She still visited his parents and his sister once in a while just to check in but it would end up with a lecture about how they are very upset with Chan for not keeping in contact with her but they would eventually get over it by the end of the evening after some tea and cookies.
Hannah on the other hand was so upset and angry at her brother but Y/n couldn't blame her. He had missed every important mile stone in her life (not intentionally Ofcourse) but still how "dare" he be so busy and lie.
Y/n knew she had to be her rock though. She knew she had to step in and take care of her.
"My love, you'll get wrinkles on your forehead if you continue to be upset," Y/n tells the young girl as she slowly helps apply Hannahâs makeup for prom. They were sat in her room on vanity.
"I don't get it! How are you so okay with what he has done?" The younger one whines like usual. To be honest Y/n was a mess inside. She was constantly sad and even though it had been years she still felt really sad and upset. She had lost her bestfriend and she didn't know if she would even be around when he came back.
"Hannah, you should be proud of him and not upset. Look at how much he has accomplished. He has grown so much and made a big difference in the industry. We should just be patient with him and we shall all be back together again." Y/n smiles as she finishes the makeup look. "There you go, so beautiful!" She claps and admires the work she had created.
âLet me see! Let me see!â She squeals and turns. Hannah gasps when she looks into the mirror shocked.
"I love it so much Y/n! Thank you!" She squeals again and held out her phone to take a few selfies.
Y/n loved seeing her happy. She was like her little sister and she since she didn't have siblings of her own she put her everything into Hannah.
"Here let me take a picture! Turn around and say Cheese!" Y/n takes a short video of her beautiful dress and posts it on her instagram. She had a few followers not as many as a normal teenager would but she was satisfied with her small account. It consisted of people she loved only.
"Oh I think my dates here!" Hannah smiles and grabs her purse then Y/n's hand. They all walk down stairs where Chan's father had the camera out.
"Oh my girl! You look beautiful!" Her mum coos and stared at the both of them. Hannah and her date took a few pictures and finally left, Ofcourse after Y/n gave them a long lecture about protection and drinking which left Hannah completely embarrassed.
"Thank you for helping her Y/n, you really have her wrapped around your finger," Chan's mum says while pouring some water for Y/n in a cup.
They were sat on the dining table having some dinner since his dad had insisted.
"Oh it's no worries! I love her like my own little sister," she gives them a genuine smile before grabbing her chopsticks and starting on the meal.
"How is medications going? What has the doctor said?" Chan's dad asks turning the atmosphere all so serious. He always had a soft spot for Y/n ever since his bestfriend (Y/N's mum) pushed her out, he had admired her, loved her and cared for her like his own. He was the only father figure in her life.
"It's okay, just trying to push through everyday. The doctor says that the tumor has decreased but he isnât sure by how much or if it'll stay like that," Y/n shrugs and continued to eat her ramen. This topic wasn't new for her. She was used to the question. She was used to the usual nagging from both Chan's parents and her mum reminding her to take her medication or to go for her appointments.
She was now used to it all.
"That's good sweetheart. Keep taking care of yourself please. I donât want you to end up in the hospital again.â He tells her softly almost as if he was scared to bruise her with his words.
âI will uncle-â
âSpeaking of that,â Chanâs mum interrupted the small conversation. He groans knowing exactly where the conversation was going and he automatically felt bad for Y/n because they had been through this for the 50th time, âDid you ever tell Chan about it? He keeps asking me about you Y/n and I want you guys to get to talking again. I feel bad for lying to him.â
Y/n let a sigh out. She hadnât told Chan about when her condition got worse. She hadnât even told him about her ending up in the hospital for months and she wanted to keep it that way.
âNo I havenât told him yet, I just donât want to put a lot on his plate plus Iâm fine now and out of bed rest,â
âI know sweetheart but-â
âMy love! Donât get involved in their love life, I keep telling you this,â Chanâs dad interrupts his mum. Y/n had always admired and craved their love. They were such a cute couple, such a happy couple.
âI know darling but if they wonât even talk, how will they get married?!â She exclaims causing Y/n to choke. Married?
âLook at what youâre saying now! Youâll chase the poor girl away. Let them be please!â
âFine, Fine. More dumplings?" She asks dumping a few more dumplings on Y/nâs plate.

Was It A Mistake - Part 2
Pairing: Bucky x Fem Reader Chapter Summary: Bucky is trying to wrap his head around what Y/N, while Nat tries to console him. Things come to a head after a date night. Warnings: Angst, some cursing and arguing, manipulation?
Series Masterlist
--
Bucky felt about 20 different emotions at the same time as he walked to his room and closed the door. He was so confused about this entire situation. You just made it seem like you didnât want to break up with him at all and only did because he pushed you away. But when he was planning to propose, Nat told him that you had expressed no longer being in love with him. That you wanted to end the relationship, thus causing him to push you away. Did Nat lie to him? Are you lying now? What was going on?
God how broken you looked just now that all he wanted to do was hold you. He's still completely in love with you. Yes, he started to develop some feelings for Nat, but in his mind, it will always you. You will hold his heart forever. Even if it's been crushed. He sits on his bed with his head in his hands as thoughts kept rushing through. Nothing was making any sense. Then he hears a knock on his door and hopes it might be you, coming to explain more, but when he opens the door, it's not you. It's Nat.
âHey baby. You okay?â Nat asked with a small smile.
He doesn't return the smile and walks back to his bed. He sits down with a sigh and looks up at her, âI⌠something doesnât add up,â he says.
She frowns, looking confused, closing his door and sitting next to him. She grabs his metal hand, âWhat do you mean?â
He pulls his hand away and stands, needing some space. âY/N made it seem like she never wanted break up with me. That she only did because I became distant,â Bucky turns to look at Nat, frowning. âBut I only became distant after you swore to me she wanted to break up.âÂ
Nat doesnât show any emotion on her face as she looks at Bucky, making it hard for him to read her. Then she sighs shaking her head, âBucky, she is upset right now after finding out about us. Of course she'll lie to have you believe it's your fault. It's to protect herself since it's you and me,â Bucky thought about what she is saying, but you never lied to make other people feel bad for you. In fact thats a pet peeve of yours.
âI mean⌠I donât know. That's not Y/N. Something's not matching up here. I mean, I understand her being upset since you're her best friend and I'm her ex, but she REALLY made it sound like she didnât want to break up with me and that I hurt her by the distance,â Bucky says.
Nat stands up and walks over the Bucky, sadness in her eyes, âSo you think I am lying to you?â Nat asks, tears coming to her eyes. "I don't understand what you are trying to say. I mean... I-I told you what was going on to protect you. I didn't want her to hurt you, and then I've sat here listening to you cry over her for so long. I've been your shoulder, the one you've trusted, and NOW you suddenly think I'm lying? Do you really think that little of me?"
Bucky panics for a moment before bringing Nat into his arms and kissing the top of her head. âIâm sorry. I didnât mean anything by it. I'm just really confused by her reaction. I'm sorry.â
Nat looks up at him, tears still in her eyes. Buck strokes her face and kisses her softly on the lips. âI meant it when I said I am falling for you Bucky. I hope you know I would never do anything to hurt you. You mean so much to me.â
Bucky give her a soft smile, "Yea, I meant it when I said I was falling for you too.â
Nat pushes up and kisses him again, giggling against his lips.
You are standing outside Buckyâs room, listening to their entire conversation. Rage is flowing in you. That FUCKING bitch!! You couldn't believe that Nat had manipulated both you and Bucky. She caused Bucky to distance himself from you, then convinced you to end it. THEN had the audacity to be his shoulder to cry on, while also being yours, and took advantage! Just swooping in and being his new girl. You want to tell Bucky everything, but at this point, with Nat lying so well, would he even believe you?Â
Is it even worth it to try? Maybe you and Bucky are not meant to be together after all. That thought hurts.
â
Over the next two weeks you decide to keep your distance from Bucky and Nat, while you contemplate what to do. Nat seemed to be handling it fine, didn't even try to reach out to you. Bucky, however, was absolutely miserable. He still needed you in his life more than he was willing to admit. Now not having you as at least a friend was more painful than the break up, because now he doesn't have you at all.
He kept going to the gym in the morning, hoping you'd be there, but you never showed up. You changed the time you go to the gym just to avoid him. You stopped eating with the team too, so he couldnât even see you in a group setting. He missed you. He needs to see you.
âEverything okay, Buck?â Steve asked one day while they were sparring in the gym. Steve was able to knock Bucky down four times, while barely breaking a sweat. âYou seem a little off your game lately?â
Bucky sits up on the mat, after being taken down again. âNo, Iâm fucking miserable. I havenât seen Y/N in weeks. She's purposefully avoiding me and I miss her.â
Steve sits down next to Bucky, âI mean do you blame her? You're dating her best friend.â
Bucky looked at Steve with pain and confusion in his eyes. Steve frowns in concerned for his friend after seeing that look.
âI know," Bucky said, "but, I think itâs more than that. She made it seem like she didnât want to break up with me in the first place. That-that she only did because I distanced myself from her. But I only did that because I was told that she wanted to break up with me! I'm just so fucking confused.â
Steveâs eyebrows were now raised. âYou never told me someone said Y/N wanted to break up with you. Who was it?â
Bucky shrugged. âDoes it matter? She still broke up with me, so they were right. I just don't know why Y/N's acting like she didn't want to. I mean you should have seen her face,Steve. She's devastated.â
Steve shook his head. He knew that you didnât want to break up with Bucky. He knew you were hurt by how distant Bucky was, and thought ending it and being friends would be better than nothing. Steve tried to get you to talk to him, but he knows his friend didn't make it easy for you.
Bucky sighs in frustration, âAnyway, I gotta go. Iâm taking Nat on a date tonight.â
Both men stand up. âWhere you going?â Steve asked as they walked over to grab their water and towels.
âOh⌠uh⌠that steakhouse on 43rd,â Bucky said quietly, avoiding eye contact with Steve.
âWasnât that yours and Y/N's place?â Steve asked, surprised.
âYeah, uhâŚ. I tried to convince Nat to go somewhere else, but she was adamant she wanted to go there⌠so,â Bucky shrugged and headed out of the gym, leaving Steve shaking his head. Something was not right about this whole thing.
â
Later that night, youâre sitting in the common room watching re-runs of âThe Officeâ. You knew that Bucky and Nat were gone, so you figured it was safe to come out of your room for a little while. You didnât realize how long you were sitting out there though, cause you suddenly heard the ding of the elevator, giggling and kissing sounds coming from the elevators.
You look down the hall and see Nat pressing Bucky against the wall, kissing him passionately. You quickly close your eyes, and fight the nausea. You just prayed they would go straight to one of their rooms and not come into the common room, since you could not get back to your room without passing them.
Luck, however, was not on your side, as they made their way to the common room and kitchen. They both stop short when they see you sitting on the couch. Bucky feels relieved to see you, as he takes a small step toward you as he whispers your name. Nat, however, is completely expressionless, as were you. You look down at her hand and see she has a to-go bag. Nat sees what you are looking at and turn the bag to show you the label a small smirk on her lips.
Your eyes widen and shoot up to a smirking Nat then to Bucky, anger and hurt evident in your eyes. You can't believe he would take her to your place! Maybe he really was stupid enough to believe Nat's lies, and doesn't care about you or your feelings anymore. Bucky realizes what you saw and wants nothing more than to comfort you. The guilt he feels is suffocating. He knew he should've taken Nat somewhere else.
âDoll, please, let me explainâŚâ You lift your hand to stop him, not wanting to hear an excuse from your ex. He takes another step closer to you, but you quickly get up from the couch, further away from him. The action makes his heart break, "Doll, please -"Â
âDonâtâŚ. you... fucking... dare!â You yell angrily, your voice steady with rage.
Bucky closed his mouth and swallows the lump in his throat. God, he wants to just die seeing the pain in your eyes.
Nat takes a step toward you, slowly, âY/N, you need to calm down.â She says the words softly and calmly, like she was talking to caged animal. It pisses you off even more, if that was even remotely possible.
You look at her and point in her face, âYou, donât fucking talk to me, ever again, bitch! You're a liar and a manipulator! You think I donât know what you did? Do you really think I donât know how you lied to the man you're supposedly falling for so that we could break up? You think I don't know your whole plan was take Bucky for yourself!â Nat showed no emotion, but Bucky looks between you both confused.
âY/N, you are not making any sense. You need to calm down. We can talk about this like adults,â Nat said calmly.
You laugh, âFuck you! You think I'd ever believe anything you have to say? You're the one who told Bucky I wanted to break up with him! Itâs because of you that he distanced himself from me! Then you told me to break up with him because of how hurt I was. It's because of you that I've been even more heartbroken. Trying to pretend that I could just be friends with the man I love more than anything! I mean you really thoughts this plan through. I guess I should commend you on your success, but at the end of the day, you're nothing but a second fucking choice!"
Bucky is shocked by your words. Is everything you're saying true? Did Nat manipulate this whole thing and he fell right into her trap? He looks at Nat, who is just staring at you, not letting any emotion leak from her features.
âNat?â Bucky whispers, hurt in his voice.
Hearing Bucky, you deflate and run from them to your room and slam your door. You collapse on your bed openly sobbing.
Meanwhile, Bucky's still looking at Nat, who still hasnât turned around to face him.
âIs it true?â Bucky asks, his voice softly stern.
âOf course not!â Nat yells turning toward Bucky, her eyes tearing up and looking... crazy. âShe's lying to break us up, Bucky! And I understand that she's hurt, but to come up with this absolute absurd story is just hurtful! She was supposed to be my best friend!â Nat starts crying. Bucky just stands there looking at her, stunned to silence. She also runs from the room, leaving Bucky to his thoughts.
He doesnât know what to think. He, honestly doesnât know what he would do if you were telling the truth. To know that he was manipulated, again, especially by someone he is supposed to trust, would completely break him. On top of knowing that he broke your heart in the process. He doesn't know what to do.
Steve's in the hallway and heard the whole fight. He canât believe Nat would manipulate you and Bucky like that. It makes him angry, and sad for his friends, who are meant to be together. Bucky had bought a ring and everything. He had to help them, whether they end up together or not, he knows Bucky deserves to know who Nat has become.

Part 1 / Part 3

Confession: I like the ending of Guardian drama.
And yes, whoever just thought "because you like angst, you sick cryptid, you" - yes, yes, guilty as charged.
But there is more to it than just "my favourites die and I like that for some reason", and I would like to share my other reasons.
Now, those of you who don't like it because of the emotional impact it caused them - I hear you and I won't attempt to change your minds, it is upsetting when people who deserve everything don't get it, especially if it's because they are not the "correct romance". So this is not me trying to convince anyone that this ending is *happy*, far from it. Or that you should like it, you do you.
I just want to tell you what I see in it. Spoilers under the cut.
Sorry, no pictures because I will try to be concise.
See, Priest is a fascinating author who not only weaves amazing stories with endearing, complicated characters, but who also aims her pen at different injustices and flaws of the reality she observes. Whoever read Mo Du, or Guardian, probably noticed that she points out different social issues that she finds concerning or worth talking about. Some of them even made it into the drama, and got elaborated on.
An incomplete list:
- illegal immigration problem (Dixing/Haixing tensions)
- nepotism (ZYL, GCC)
- children left with elders not equipped to care for them (Li Qian)
- healthcare that depends on money and connections ( the Zu Ma arc, the entire Merit Brush arc)
Just to name a few.
Now, one of the things that is shown to be a big problem from the very beginning is the Xingdu Ministry - they want ZYL to stop causing trouble, to keep the existence of Dixing hidden, they conduct their own shady experiments on Dixingren and Haixingren too.
Now, when Ye Zun starts appearing in Haixing and the team already knows that his goal is to incite the Dixingren to attack, ZYL goes to the Minister and tells him that he wants to warn the people, to prepare them for what's coming and to try to dissipate the tensions before YZ comes.
The Ministry declines.
They try to cover it up, even when the Minister gets kidnapped, even when Zhao Xinci was kidnapped, the Ministry's policy is: deny, deny, deny. "Let's wait it out, let's not cause panic, let's not make any hasty movements"
Then Ya Qing uploads the files and reveals everything about the SID to the world and... Xingdu Ministry allows the hunt for everyone in the SID.
And then, the finale happens, Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei give their lives to save the two worlds and...
Nothing changes.
Dixing and Haixing are separated, and yes Dixing gets light again, the clock starts, but these two worlds did not learn to co-exist, no.
The Ministry didn't change their tune any - they cover up the cost of victory. Shen Wei is no longer a concern anyone speaks about for long, and there is a stranger walking in Zhao Yunlan's body, assuring people a year later that everything is fine, that the crisis will not be repeated, that the heroes of the day, the SID, are still here.
That's the tragedy of the ending and also the part that points an accusing finger at the people in power. The real heroes are swept under the rug, the word 'sacrifice' is not uttered in the open, it's a 'victory'. Sounds familiar, if you look at history.
Lin Jing and Da Qing come to Yunlan's flat because this is the only place where they can still mourn, where they can say out loud "these people are no longer here and we miss them."
But the official narration is different.
According to the official version of events, there is no professor Shen and Zhao Yunlan is alive, the hero is still here.
Except he isn't. The drama ends up in a lie, Dixing changed but Haixing didn't. Officially there is no one to mourn.
I am aware that I am approaching it through the lenses of someone who watches propaganda pieces and analyses them for fun, but I find this ending really interesting, because it is a real tragedy consciously wrapped into a pretty present - "look, nothing happened! No one died, life goes on", but the inclusion of Zhang Shi walking around in ZYL's body with a heartbreak on his face is here for a reason, I believe.
This is a propaganda in the making, happening before our very eyes.
And I think it's a very Priest thing to do, to draw our attention to how horrible it is. Because we, the viewers, know the real costs - Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan, Sha Ya, Wang Zheng - we know these characters, we spent 40 episodes getting to know them and care about them. How dare you say they are acceptable numbers. How dare you say there were no sacrifices?
And yet that's what the Xingdu Ministry wants you to accept.
And yeah, we, the viewers should absolutely be angry about that.
