Evie's Class Schedule for the OG HSS Trilogy school year! With Headcanons and Meta below the cut!

Yet another set of details that working on the HSS Adaptation Fic has helped me think more deeply about hehe <3

Meta Details:

I was initially unsure what course/subject Ms. Maddox was teaching in the OG trilogy, since I don't think it's ever explicitly confirmed. The background used is clearly for an English/Writing classroom (albeit it is technically a very stock background, but still), but there's also a later scene where Evie accidentally takes Brian's Math textbook during homeroom. But Ms. Maddox also gave me History teacher vibes at first for some reason.

The English classroom background won in the end, especially since Evie would be taking Algebra Honors while Brian would definitely think that that's for "nerds". I figure Evie accidentally taking Brian's Math textbook is something that could still happen in an English class.

In Book 2, it's confirmed that Gym is MC's last class of the day.

In Book 3, when MC and friends hang out with some Hearst kids at lunch, it's mentioned that both Emma and Cameron take a Creative Writing course. Evie loves Creative Writing too for sure, so there was no way I was passing up that opportunity.

As I'll mention in the next section, one of the books Evie reads in English 10 is Julius Caesar. I picked all of those books because they were what I read in my English 10 class, but Julius Caesar is also fitting considering the Book 2 conflict with Isa taking over, which I think would be happening a few months after the Julius Caesar unit. Evie, being freshly familiar with the play and also being a huge Mean Girls fan, will absolutely make a lot of "We should totally just stab Isa!" jokes to herself in Book 2.

All teachers' names besides Diana Maddox and Ricky Burke are of course made up rather than from the story. Same with all the room numbers besides 225B.

A moment I may include in the first chapter of the Adaptation Fic is, when Evie is in her Gym class, Coach Burke reveals that in 5th period Julian told him about the race that they did with Caleb and Brian at lunch (as per the jock minigame in canon) and Evie's performance in it, and thus he encourages her to try out for the team.

Headcanons:

Evie is quite good at Math and Science subjects. They're usually her favorite subjects, and I say usually because thanks to Creative Writing, Math and Science hold the second place spot this year. Scott is a mechanical engineer, so he was able to give Evie a bit of a jump-start in those subjects. He of course never pushed Evie to pursue those kinds of fields, and Evie does genuinely enjoy Math and Science as a result of how he taught her. Especially Science, it's cool to see how things work.

History is probably Evie's least favorite subject genre. The topics are very hit-or-miss, and a lot of the time it can feels like it's just learning a bunch of facts, unlike in Math and Science where there was also a sense of *how* things worked. So unless those facts are about interesting things... it can be kind of a drag for her. Berry's History classes, however, would try to put more of an emphasis on analyzing the history facts and timelines rather than just memorizing a bunch of facts-- which Evie would still struggle with, but would ultimately feel more engaged by.

Evie is neutral to English, probably. She loves reading, but the actual books themselves can be hit-or-miss for her. And even when they are hits, it can sometimes be difficult for her to keep up with assigned reading. Literary/textual analysis is also an area that is new to her when she starts high school, but in 10th grade she starts to become increasingly more proficient at it.

The books Evie will read in English 10 at Berry are: Sophocles's Oedipus Rex, Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Elie Weisel's Night, Alexander Solzhenitsyn's One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, and Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns. None of them become major favorites of hers (except maybe TSS), but she does consider them all well-done for what they are, as well as important to her for kicking off her skill in textual analysis.

Evie enjoys stuff like mile runs and warm-up runs in Phys-Ed, but at the same time she takes running very seriously and so she tends to get a bit more nervous about them than she probably needs to. Ever since 9th grade, she'd always be keeping track of her times and trying to improve on them.

The units Evie has in Phys-Ed this year are: Tennis, Soccer, Volleyball, Flag Football, Badminton, Basketball, Softball, Field/Street Hockey, Swimming, and Track. Evie of course excels at Flag Football, Basketball, Field/Street Hockey, and Track. She's pretty good at Softball and it helps kick off her interest in joining the Baseball team later in the spring. Badminton is fun but frustrating. Soccer is decent. She could be better at Volleyball. She has a lot of trouble with Swimming.

Creative Writing is one of Evie's favorites of all time. She's loved writing, coming up with her own stories and characters, playing imaginary games, playing dolls, etc. ever since she was a little kid. There was this one time in second grade where she was allowed to join a middle school level Creative Writing course, and it was great until the very kind teacher retired a month later and the school ended up dropping the course entirely. Evie was an uncontrollable sobbing mess that entire night.

Jojo directing an action romcom about assassin brothers (Khao & Joong) meet a tattoo artist ex-booster (First) and a mechanic (Dunk). I'm highly amused that Joong plays the older brother to Khao, and that we have a at take on Taming of the Shrew for that pair. I like that everyone is morally gray. This has all GMMTV's best chemistry in one BL and some fresh concepts that I've only really seen tackled in m/m romance (check out Amy Lane's Racing for the Sun, thank me later). I'm excited my only quibble is Jojo, I like his style but his characters can get unreliably messy so...

I genuinely dithered over whether this one should be first. Still it was the only trailer I grinned the whole way through, and had to watch 2x, so it takes top spot for me, but closely followed by a surprise silver medal...

Thame-Po (Heart that Skips a Beat)

A boy band member and his documentarian start a forbidden relationship. I LOVE Est and am delighted to see him at GMMTV but I've been getting a fatigued by celebrity BL of late. However, after watching the trailer I'm 100% in on this show. I've been waiting for a Blinding Lights style idol romance and this looks like it might be it (Korea, Japan, and Thailand have systemically disappointed me over the past 2 years). Bring it, boys.

GMMTV have taken on this IP about a vampire prince and the human who awakens him that was with WabiSabi. Interesting that GMMTV are bring out two vampire BLs as a result. This one involves a coven (hello, who called it way back in 2019? Me. I DID.) Anygay, coven includes Santa (no lies spotter with that one).

Wonder if they will tank that JossGawin one? There'd likely be rioting in the streets if they did. But they might just let it fade away.

Also, Jimmy is there, primarily to give me second lead syndrome. It looks silly but kinda earnest, I'm intrigued.

JuniorMark are doing popular sunshine meets lonely sad boy (the only interesting pair IMHO).

Not sure if these will be interwoven (My Engineer style) or shorter stand alones (Y-Destiny style).

WHY MUST THIS BE?!! I really don't like this IP but I still HAVE OPINIONS (of course I do) Look, I doubt even legendary EarthMix can save Ossan for me.

Shall I explain? Too much, let me sum up:

It's a terrible script based entirely on an unsympathetic love triangle, the viability of the whole show actually hinges on the boss character so he MUST be likable, because the lead is an unsympathetic looser (and user of people), and the roommate/love interest has no personality. Looks like this version is doing the same. ALSO Earth is grossly miss-cast. (On the other hand, maybe I'll like it more because of that, I would rather my H were toned down a bit.) Finally... where tf are my ladies? The female characters were the best thing about the original.

Of course I'll still watch it. I'm trash.

The amount of care that has gone into the game so far is incredible, from the character designs to the Easter eggs sprinkled around throughout - there's so much to explore and interact with alongside the actual plot!!

Speaking of plots... I won't be spoiling anything, but having talked about the plans for all the directions the game can go in, I'm very excited for certain plot twists >:) this is a game with lore of its own on top of the og mechs lore, so you nerds (affectionate) are gonna love piecing it all together

605 Pop Con was AWESOME!!!!!

I got to talk with some members of the 501st and learned some great cosplay tips and tricks. I might even join the local legion if I can improve my costume to meet the standards.

I saw lots of cool nerd stuff! Lots of Funko Pops, action figures, and statutes. Look at these Og, Kenner Star Wars toys! I'm not even a collector, but I know how valuable these are! Super cool!

I saw lots of people with super cool cosplays! Here are some people I got pictures with. It was awesome to meet other cosplayers!

I GOT TO MEET MATT WOOD!!!!

He was so nice! In addition to acting, he also does a lot of sound design in movies. I got to talk to him about his work, and he listed like a ton of recent movies he's done sound work for. I can't remember them all, but there were a lot. 😅 He sounds like a busy guy! He did the Greivous and battle droid voices, too! I didn't even ask! He just did it! He seemed to really like interacting with fans.

I also got to meet Sylvester McCoy!!!

He was the sweetest guy! He had some sort of brace on his hand, so I asked what happened. He said it was from signing so many autographs. I couldn't quite tell if he was serious or joking! 😂 I got to hear how he first learned to play the spoons! And I heard later that at the panel he did, he actually played them! Man, that would have been cool to see!

Speaking of panels, I got to go to this one and hear some super cool behind the scenes stories about the making of "Andor"! It was so cool hearing their stories and insight about the show. There are scenes I can't watch now without thinking about what was happening behind the scenes! Especially with the alien granny in season 2 episode 10! 🤣 I'll have to tell that story sometime.

I took a bit of video of the panel, so if you guys are interested, I can totally post that later.

Got to talk to the people who made this R2! They had this one and another purple astromech rolling around. Neither of them had any background in mechanics, they just figured it out as they went along! So to all you fandom nerds out there, you don't need to know what you're doing to start creating! I think back to my first cardboard mandalorian helmet and cringe a little. But it's what got me started! Just do some research and go for it, friends!

He loves the long chain with the initials of his lovers he wears 24/7, yet he wants to own something closer to his collar that he can use when he's not at home.

Sweet Billy T. with his love for mechanics, sees the advertisement for the first ever Lego set sold in Britain (1960) and falls for it; he doesn't care that it's for children, it is fascinating! Tommy B. would like to drag you and Billy on a holiday somewhere in the Continent where no one would look at three of you funny, because of your relationship.

Michael? His ideal gift is simple and easy to obtain: become the dean of Oxford and kick out all the vapid cunts who buy a placement in one of the courses; easy, isn't it? Ever since he's adopted Tornado, Billy W.'s ideal gifts are all related to the doggie; the latest is a very pricey agility course to show the world how smart and agile his best friend is!

My Thoughts on Linked Universe Pt 5! The Hero of Hyrule!

Here we are with my 2nd fav Link, Roolie!!! He's so cute I could just squeeze him to death 🤗. Unfortunately the Traveler does not have much lore. So most of this this will be my speculation and what I think on him. LETS GO!!

Okidoki, I know most new Zelda fans haven't played the og games but, I did sooooo call me a nerd is ya want but they were actually pretty good. REALLY hard but I enjoyed them, both Zelda 1 and Zelda 2. It took me so long to beat them but it was so worth it. They are some of those games that when you beat them you feel so good and smart. there's not much to talk about them in terms of game play and mechanics so right into the story.

Zelda 1 follows a young boy on his quest to save the princess of his dying kingdom. His quest starts off with him meeting an old man who gives him a sword and tells him of his destiny. The young boy, whos name is Link goes off to many dungeons and trials. Though out it all facing many monsters and bosses. Link eventually fights Ganon one on one and wins. Puting an end to cycle in the Downfall Timeline (almost). The Taveler is most likely about 10-12 in this game and is one of two heroes who doesn't wield the master sword.

Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link follows the same hero from Zelda 1. The Traveler is probably about 14 or 15 in this game, so a descent amount of time has passed. This adventure is very similar to his last only now he has to prevent Ganons return. He also must wake a princess from her ever lasting slumber. The Traveler also gains a blood curse placed on to him by Ganons minnions. If you die in game a screen will flash saying " Game Over, Return of Ganon." Link also has assassins chasing him all over to kill him and bring Ganon back to life.

Both games though have incredibly hard puzzles but have relatively easy fights and bosses. The Ganon fight in Zelda 1 is super easy. When I played it for the first time I though it would be a somewhat long fight with multiple stages. But it took like 4 hits with the Silver Arrows and he dies. Like damn, not only did this man fumbled in ALttP he fumbled in this games too. How you going to let a kid beat you twice, when you killed the Hero of Time smh 😒.

Anywho, I think these easy fights are the souce of Roolie's insecurity with the Cain. He even says in the comic that he 'must of had it easy.' I don't think he has much confidence in his abilities or his accomplishments as a Hero of Hyrule. Speaking of the title the heroes all share. That might also be a souce of his insecurity. He doesn't have another title like the others. He might not think that he is worthy of standing next to the others.

The man needs to cut him self some slack cause his magical prowess is leages above anyone else of the Chain. He's got that cool sword beam and his lightning attack is probably one of the best amoung the group. I would go as far to say that his magical ability is better that his skill with a sword, which is by no means weak. He is worthy of his title and to stand next to the other heros, he just needs to see it.

Some more of his magic is his ability to transform into a fairy! I already talked little about transformation magic in the Old Man's post, but I'm going to reiterate some of my thoughts. For starters to me transformation magic is really powerful. I mean it changes the shape of your body for a prolonged period of time. Anything that does that can't be weak. As we've seen with the Smith, Old Man, and Rancher, it will leave a mark. Either an actual physical marking on the boday, or permanently changing your form is probably up to the user and what type of transformation magic it is.

The Travler does not have a lot of realationships, we could argue that he has a very nice relationship with Both Zeldas, but it's probably nothing more than him being their protector. His Era is not the best. It takes place after the Downfall of Hyrule. This period most likely happens millennia after the Era of Legend. There arn't many settlements, and those that are there have a limited population.

Speaking on the Downfall of Hyrule, it probably had something to do with their ecomony and agricultural practices. I know theres a recuring joke about The Traveler and Champion eating anything they can get there hands on, but this most likely a survivle habit learn from their post apocalyptic Kingdoms. I actually really like the headcanon of Roolie being able to eat almost anything because of his ability to transform into a fairy. It suits him and opens a lot of funny opportunities for him to feak out his brothers

To expand on the Downfall of Hyrule I feel like traveler would speak about his home. Not in great detail but he would talk about the state of his kingdom. I also think that the Veteran would be absolutly horrified to learn what his predecessor had gone though. Traveler would reassure him that it was nothing that he could stop and that the events that lead to the Downfall happened a really long time after he dies.

Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky wants to bring back the smartwatch his company invented. He wants to build a simple smartwatch with an e-paper screen that's hackable, doesn't do too much and has a long-lasting battery.

He doesn't want to do much to fix or upgrade the original Pebble because he says it still works just fine. Indeed, he still wears one, and has a boxful of spares.

I'd be a potential customer if they can get it working well with the iPhone. I love my Apple Watch, but I only use its most basic features: Notifications, weather, very basic fitness tracking, telling time and alarms.

I don't do anything fancy with my Apple Watch, and I'd be happy with something that does a lot less, costs a lot less, and has much longer battery life.

Also, the Pebble was and still is a nice-looking watch. Cute and gadgety. Not a piece of fancy jewelry like a high-end mechanical watch, but it looks nice for everyday wear. Having one of those on your wrist brands you as a nerd, and you can instantly bond with fellow nerds.

I cleared the tail end of Book 4 and all of Book 5 two days ago so fair warning, I'm still not completely aware of all the ins and outs of Ortho and Idia. And I might have to redo some of my Pomefiore headcanons with Book 5 in mind, namely Rook??? Whose apparently from Sunset Savanna??? Anyways, onto the designs...

Ah, the most relatable character in Twisted Wonderland...

- I don't think I really changed a whole lot about him physically, tbh. Gave him slightly bluer skin and dark makeup. I figured he's kinda one of the closest characters to like alt fashion and stuff so I slapped some piercings on him.

- You can't see them with his GIANT MESS OF HAIR but I gave him some piercings. I'll just grab a pic of them rq.

No bald Idia today guys.

- He's autistic. Is that even up for debate at this point? Either way, I feel like he'd actually hate having hair against his neck and typically put it into a ponytail or something. That shit would be hella warm otherwise, fire or no.

- He plays dating sims religiously but god forbid someone ACTUALLY flirts with him. In the unlikely scenario that he actually realises they're hitting on it, he just freaks out and runs, physically if possible. I think he's unintentionally shut people down hard because he cannot fathom why anyone would like it.

- He has to fight his demons whenever he see any of the people with cat ears which me too me too. Ignihyde actually has a bit of a stray cats issue, namely because Idia sets out food and water for them and refuses to let anyone take them away. They never get into the workshops or anywhere dangerous and Idia has named all of them.

- He has unique names not only for the stray cats of Ignihyde but also for all of the ones in his games, in specific his Minecraft cats.

- It's actually in the process of making a robotic cat as a sort of emotional support animal since a live cat isn't allowed in classes due to allergies (which Grim is exempt from due to him not technically being a cat and not producing allergens, fun fact).

- Oh! And I headcanon him as Greek and Japanese. Forgot that oops. Nationality-wise he'd be Australian though.

I was struggling to think of things that were just canon facts of his character already, which, to be fair, some of this could be but moving onto...

🦾Ortho Shroud🦾

I actually adore how they came out omg. I have no really experience with robot/cyborg character design so I gave myself some liberties.

- First and for most, I made a lot of its robot features more obvious with panelling that would make it easy for Idia to access any brain or vocal mechanics. You cannot convince me that Idia, known for liking video games and anime, would pass up an opportunity to make Ortho look cool asf. Or maybe Book 6 can but for now, panels.

- I don't know if it's ever brought up in detail Ortho's like material components and stuff but I think they're made with the anti-magic stuff Charon's ferrymen have, further enhanced and durable. His freckles help with sensing particularly smell and temperature.

- His eyes took a bit of inspiration from Genoa, I just though a black sclera would look super cool tbh.

- It's hair is a bit crazier and I wanted to lowkey emulate Medusa vibes with it and the soulless eyes lol.

Not much else right now but I know damn well Book 6 will make me cry... Time for the ocs!

- So, a bit of a disclaimer, I've never actually seen Hercules because I was a Greek mythology nerd and was offended by the inaccuracies lol so keep that in mind with the ocs for this dorm. Fuji is my Cerberus character!

- He's the vice-housewarden of Ignihyde and tends to help out with Ortho's upgrades by moving the heavier parts that Idia can't lift.

- Since I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, Cerberus means 'spots', I wanted her to have a ton of freckles as an omage.

- She's fully Japanese and has been a childhood friend of the Shrouds, with both families going way back. He was kind of Idia's emotional support before Ortho was allowed as well as a bit of a bodyguard. She and Ortho were the reason Idia didn't have to attend with a mass guard force.

- Quiet and seems quite menacing at first but is a huge softie and loves to be around other people. She and Jack are workout buddies and bond over common music tastes in the J-Pop and K-Pop genres.

- When she's talking to Idia or Ortho, it tends to be in Japanese (neglecting that the game is set to Japanese, imagine the default is like a common tongue or something lol).

- He specialises in heavier mech tech, developing protective wear and other durable things to work with. She hopes to intern with Charon eventually and work to study the containment of blot.

Now for another set of triplets, these ones all in Ignihyde...

🕰️Ye-Jin Ryu🕰️

Second Year - (she/her) - Sapphic

So these next three characters are representative of the Fates, they're Korean.

- Ye-Jin is my 'past' character. I styled her hair is an older-fashioned wavy cut and gave her some classy pearl earrings to give that 🌸vintage aesthetic🌸.

- Her primary skill set and interest is in re-purposing older things and upgrading them i.e. keeping the older aesthetic but making the mechanisms modern and remove the fear that it'll break down from overuse and whatnot.

- As such, she's a sucker for antiques and older fashion trends, mostly consisting of long skirts and formal wear. That being said, she still wears properly protective gear w an working on one of her projects.

- A hobby of hers is photography and she loves both actually taking photos as well as experimenting with different kinds of old cameras. She's a part of a photography club and also has a photo wall in her room.

- Never one to slack, she enjoys journalling and writing letters in her pass time as well. A hopeless romantic, she and Chanda share a class and Ye-Jin writes little posty notes for her.

Now for the present..

Second Year - (she/they) - Heteroromantic Bisexual

- Ji-Ho is the present and reflects a more modern Korean makeup style and haircut. I think she'd have reading glasses but only wear them when necessary.

- She has an interest in modern technology and pushing its limits. Adding more storage to a computer than typically offered, making a car even more gas efficient, that kind of stuff.

- They like a combination of things but are actually a part of the Spelldrive Club. She wanted to try something new and expand their bases. It gave her some insight for a recent interest in prosthetics she's developed.

👾Dae Ryu👾

Second Year - (she/they/it) Agender - Pansexual

- Dae is the future! I gave her more sci-fi-y makeup and a bit more flare in its hairstyle. Some piercings and ta dah!

- They specialise in bio-tech. Looking at nature to modify scientific approaches and being more environmentally friendly. Sustainability is a top priority for Dae.

- She wants to eventually make basic resources easily accessible to all and is doing its best to work out a solution. They're connecting the dots lol.

- Dae is a part of the hiking club and loves being around nature as much if not more than being in her lab. They often go hiking with Chunying on weekends.

💀Cooper Benoit💀

First Year - (they/he) Nonbinary - Queer

- Cooper is twisted from Barrel and is the last of the Benoit family to be introduced. They are a very booksmart person and a math nerd.

- He's also disabled and typically uses a wheelchair. As such, they have been working on trying to improve the school's general accessibility as even with magic, NRC's campus can be difficult to navigate in a wheelchair.

- Similarly to Idia, Cooper is a total cat person and he and Idia take care of the strays together. Cooper's slowly memorising the names lmao.

What I think each Version of Simon Petrikov would wear for Halloween:

Winter King: He's going as Count Dracula. Nobody is stopping him, not even any of the actual vampires. If he, for some reason, cannot get his hands on a vampire costume (which is highly unlikely), then he'll settle for a witch costume. Not a wizard costume - a witch. He believes there is a big difference between witches and wizards. Since he's already a wizard, he can't pretend to be one.

OG Simon: He wants to dress up as Sherlock Holmes. He loves that book series, which is probably hard to come across in the Land of Ooo due to the Mushroom War destroying basically everything, and wants to keep it alive somehow. He'll throw together the best costume he can afford to make, and no matter how shabby it may look, he'll simply be proud that he had the motivation to make it at all.

M&S Simon: He's going to embrace the fact that, for now, he's stuck with Ice King as an alter ego and dress up as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Well... technically just Dr. Jekyll, but he counts anytime that Ice King takes over during the holiday as him being Mr. Hyde. He kinda uses it as an odd coping mechanism, as well as a way to ensure that others around him (who don't know if the fact that Ice King is his alter ego at the moment) don't panic as much. They might just think he's doing a play on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but with him pretending to turn into the Ice King, instead (at least, that's what he hopes). Ice King doesn't get it. He's horribly confused. Why does he look like an even bigger nerd than before? What is happening? Simon's going to ask Marceline how Ice King reacted, since he wants to know how much Ice King remembers the books he reads and to see if Ice King knew that he was at a costume party.

OG Shephard (he/they) is a thrill-seeker. Quiet, kind, and observant. Not the brightest bulb, joined the military bc he's shit at school (and for funsies). Friends with Tommy & John Freeman. Passionate about animal care and mechanics. Sticks to taking orders, only really stands his ground when they're fed up/annoyed. Casual gamer, good at flappy bird. nerf darts are scattered around his living place. he likes to stay busy with tasks.

Mindrian (he/him) is a disney princess. He's also a theater kid and took improv classes (he says "yes, and..."). Jocky nerd. God's nappiest soldier, he loves naps. Friends with Barmey, Martini, & Benrey. Awkward in large groups but knows how to enthrall small DnD parties with whimsical tales. Keeps dice on him. Sentimental. Despite how he carries himself, he is a dorky loser (with a semblance of charisma). PC gamer

Slaydrian (she/her) is quiet. She's strong-willed, not afraid of speaking her mind, and does so bluntly. Powerhouse. She's not mean, but comes across as dismissive because of her rbf + harsh way of speaking.  She's only visibly excited when Creatures are involved. Usually hangs out with Corp. She'll garden with them, and loves to take care of animals/insects + research about them. the person who has the wikipedia article for "ants" on their phone

Corporation (they/them) is pretty silly. Something about Corp is really endearing to those around them. Short and chubby. They love to garden, paint, do crafts, and cook! Always busy with something. Hates oil companies to a comical degree. they're very persuasive, despite speaking muffled gibberish. the others suspect them of being an eco-terrorist. Stays mostly with Slaydrian or the other GTE guys, but occasionally hangs out with Freemind & Martini for anarchy reasons.

Soaring Ever Higher - companion post

Hello!

I've decided to write this post detailing my motivations and explaining the realities of my fanfic crossover between Modern Warfare reboot and Ace Combat 7.

Do you need to read this in order to enjoy the story? No. Are you going to have better idea of what's going on and who's who (including Soap's new callsign being Trigger) if you do? Yes! And for those of you not familiar with AC, it might be a reason to play it, and I'll be very happy if you do, because it's a great game.

So, without further ado, let's get to it!

Jets are cool!

Let's start with obvious. Jets are cool. As-in, "one of the pinnacles of human ingenuity combined with unique and often genuinelly pleasing aestethics" cool.

There's also prestige and, obviously, a huge popculture cult surrounding Top Gun and being a fighter pilot. The fact that I've loved planes since I was a kid also played a role.

Soap or Trigger?

Trigger is a silent, faceless protagonist of Ace Combat 7. Now when I say he's silent and faceless, that doesn't mean he doesn't have a personality. This is mostly conveyed through the other characters (with the most prominent being his wingman Count and a mechanic Avril) that either talk to him or about him.

Trigger is an outstanding pilot, an ace, he's a daredevil but also has a strong moral compass. He owns his mistakes and does what is right. Since he's a fighter pilot, he's also very independent and can sometimes come off as defying.

Long story short, I think he has a lot in common with Soap. But since there's virtually no information about Trigger, it made most sense to me to create a crossover where Soap would take on that role.

That's how John "Trigger" MacTavish came to be. The "three strikes" on the tail of Trigger's jet, that's also AC thing but I will address that in the story, so... no spoilers.

So I basically took Soap off of 141 and made him the AC Trigger, including characters from AC that are now part of RAF, as is Soap. The rest of 141 stayed the same, but they are one Sergeant short. If only there was a character from OG MW that Activision deleted from the reboot, huh...

MW vs Ace Combat

There's a lot that MW and Ace Combat share, too. Of course, both deal with military themes, even though Ace Combat takes place in an alternate universe called Strangereal. Countries on Strangereal Earth are fictional but they are historically and politically mashed up from our reality. The jets, however, are 100 % licensed "real deal" stuff.

The similarities don't end with military themes. Most notable is an anti-war message. That is not really that strong in rebooted MW, but in OG, it was pretty clear. Ace Combat is very, very vocal about it's anti-war sentiments. While Ace Combat adores the "warmachines" it condemns their purpose. Think of Gundam or Metal Gear.

Ace Combat tells the story of war and combat through the eyes of individuals affected by it. Soldiers and civilians alike. That is a little bit closer to the rebooted MW that focuses on the individual characters way more than OG used to do.

So, all in all, both games give me kinda similar vibes of "it's cool to play soldiers and acknowledge the heroism of people fighting for peace and freedom, but killing is still wrong and war is in itself a crime against humanity".

And... that's it. Thank you for reading and if you're videogame music nerd, absolutely go dig that Ace Combat soundtracks (at least all the way to Agnus Dei from AC4) because that stuff is really good.

Ya know reading up on lilybug's hollow knight comic

God I'm glad this game still attracts new fans

I still remember when i first got into the game back in late 2017 thanks to my homie Doku and slowly but surely falling deeply in love with not just the game, but the world and characters Hollow Knight had set up as well.

I joined up with a bunch of fucking nerds from /tg/ to help in the creation of a table top RPG format for Hollow Knight dubbed UHKRPG, or just the Hollow Knight TTRPG

And while I may have only contributed to some minor things - worldbuilding on aspects of the OG kingdom we designed for the game's basic setting, to some lifeblood and void-related mechanics that the homies did their best to iron out

I got to meet some genuinely awesome people that I'm still homies with to this day.

I think it's safe to say Hollow Knight had as much of an impact on my autistic ass as Undertale did, but in a much larger way compared to the latter.

I will still advertise the HELL outta this system too for anyone that wants to explore this Fandom more (here, I'll even leave it here, and the official public discord here.) because genuinely

It holds a special place in my heart.

God, I love the bug designs, and the kingdom of Hallownest with its history stretching back ages, even millenia with ancient void-worshipping civilizations

I love the Fandom coming up with shit like food and meals that bug villagers would make, various kingdoms with their own rich lore and art

I love how it brought me together with friends that have fundamentally changed my life, cause were it not for them, I don't think I'd be better off mentally or emotionally.

I love the creativity this Fandom can bring. The shear passion everyone can bring to this wonderful little metroidvania, the lore nerds and artists that bring out fucking adorable vessel designs and what not

I fucking love this game and this community.

FotW: SDMI - In Fear of the Phantom

Welcome back to Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated, and now we're getting into a problem many reboots and adaptions face - what happens when you try something different. Today's episode isn't really that special, serving as a bridging point between the next stint of episodes focused on the gang's love lives.

Except for featuring the Hex Girls of course.

Not to overshadow the main villain, which would be extra funny considering their backstory, but come on that's what y'all are here for.

Yeah, they got a bit of a redesign since their last few appearances in the two billion direct to DVD films. Fans DID NOT like this, and in a later episode they had to actually address the backlash while also scrapping these outfits for the original ones. They also steal Luna and Dusk's hair dye and gave Thorn's highlights a diminished role.

My personal opinion? Eh, I would've preferred a middle ground between the two, but for reboots I encourage designers to go all out since it's their own thing. So for Mystery Incorporated I would've either kept the redesigns or gave them completely brand new looks a second time. The OGs have a more cohesive aesthetic, but I like how MI experiments by giving each girl their own Alt style. It's probably Dusk who could probably use a new outfit though, since her Tank Girl getup doesn't mesh as well as Thorn's "Pagan School Girl" and Luna's "Lesbian Thespian" outfits do. Actually, maybe one of those Scene Kid reconstructions of School Uniforms would've worked better?

Oh yeah, this nerd.

Backstory: Like most lesbians Velma is a massive fan of The Hex Girls, snagging front row tickets for the Scooby Gang just in time for them to witness a "Phantom" try to murder Thorn on stage. As with every mystery the gang decide to take it upon themselves to do the cop's job to keep the concert going while protecting the band.

This leads to an exploration of the show's two main ships, Fredphe and Shoob - again, yes really.

This show is really good trust me on this.

Scooby outright calls Shaggy a cheater for going to prom with Velma instead of hanging out with him like they always do, and replaces Mathew Lillard with a wooden dummy much to Shaggy's chagrin.

Fred meanwhile comes out as nonbinary a teenage boy with emotions as he finally grasps Daphne's romantic interest in him. All thanks to an entire song written by Daphne where she uses Fred's special interest to get through to him.

Behold, one of the best songs made for a television show in history.

Before this spectacular moment of audio interposed with occasional Zelda CDI-level animation (to be fair are you even looking at the animation in the first place) we got some Phantom shenanigans. Mostly him responding to Scoob and Shag's ability to warp time and space by just setting them on fire, probably the most effective thing one these guys have attempted so far.

Design: Obviously a homage to The Phantom of the Opera, and as we go through the series, you'll start to notice a lot more homages that Wikipedia will kindly point out for you. Though you can also see a bit of Comic Supervillain in his design, so much so that he doesn't seem to fit with the show's own aesthetic. He wears a black full body suit with a gigantic, taller than his own head, Dracula collar and grim reaper-esque hood. He has a fabricated piece of his outfit that goes over his shoulders like Football Pads, but with a sleeker design as it attaches his cape to the main costume. His cape is black but its interior is lined with a sparkling holographic material.

His mask, belt, boots, and glovers are all made of golden mechanical pieces, as they actually allow him to charge up bolts of electricity to fire at the teens in our show. This tech is never explained, and he really only uses it a few times before forgetting he has these weapons at his disposal.

His mask is the best part of the outfit, legitimately cool while evoking a gas mask. It's almost like it was made out of several pieces asymmetrically stuck to each other with large bolts, like if C3PO was mangled in an accident and put back together with recolored bits of R2-D2. There are several short, cylindrical ports on his gauntlets, boots, belt, and mask that occasionally glow green.

Reveal: Shaggy, with an extensive knowledge of obscure musical groups as we'll be shown time and time again, recognized the shiny material of The Phantom's cape as belonging to a One-Hit Wonder named Fantzee Pantz. And once that's discovered it's pretty obvious that the other suspect, The Hex Girl's manager, is not the culprit as he was just as responsible for Fantzee's obscurity as THG.

No, the true culprit is the girl's songwriter, who first attempted to sabotage them through badly written songs but was thwarted by the girl's talent and popularity - So he then turned to just trying to kill them, and Daphne. He ends up taking Scoob's dummy to jail with him, but the original duo patch things up by then - letting us look back at Velma who got sidelined so badly this episode.

2/5 Goofy as hell design for a goofy character, probably the most "Villain of The Week" we've encountered so far. In fact, he'd probably fit in better in Miraculous Ladybug than this show. Not that bad otherwise, just not as impressive.

Like honestly a lot of ffvii's og is about Cloud reclaiming those part of his life i'd say?

because Cloud is heavily traumatized and put on a tough face like he has no emotional investment in anything, but as the OG goes he ends up experiencing so much that he gets to figure out what he actually loves. What he is outside of his dream of becoming a Soldier which have been crushed long ago.

And you see it in the little things. The way he finds it so cool to play around with his sword. The way he gets so impressed by seeing Cid's mechanic inventions. The way he was very happy to steal a bike for himself and enjoy the biker life. The way he likes to be a chocobo jockey, or how he jokingly talk with them. Later in the game he also have fun doing snowboard and stuff. In the Remake he also likes to breakdance. Like... He discovers so many things that make him happy and it's so cute to me.

There was the pain and everything but Cloud could find a bit of himself in all that noise again. And he's a nerd about it. that's so cute.
