You are not Alone - Process

I'm finally organizing a post to show you guys a little of my process. I thought it would be a good start to do it with an personal piece that could got me open to more experimentations :)

This is a personal piece I created for Cynthia Sheppard's "Illustrating the Emotional Narrative" Class. I had an idea of Medusa and the illustration would be about a friendship that overcomes the character's curse. 

Based on the method Cynthia presented to us, I structured a briefing for my image focusing on Medusa's character as it follows:

GOAL/MOTIVATION

Being relaxed with her friend's visit.

OBJECTIVE

To feel happy and cared for by her friend regardless of whether she is a monster.

ACTION

Relax, rest, to let her guard down.

TONE/MOOD

Medusa feels calm with the presence of her friend.

Melancholic and grayish colors in the surroundings to represent Medusa's lair. But with room for hope that she will not live a life forever alone.

Based on this infos, I made some thumbnail tests where Medusa's friend would be visiting her in her lair.

From here I asked some colleague's opinions and we came up to the conclusion that thumbnail E would be the best. Then I started testing light and values.

Next, I colored the thumbnail and made some adjustments. I usually sctructure my thumbnails up to this point so that I can be sure of how I am going to paint the scene definitively later on.

Now for some ref time! I took some photos to simulate the light so I could answer any doubts about anatomy, light and shadows. I won't post the images since they are a little too personal :) In addition, this step helps me with a clearer ideia about interactions between the two characters. With organized refs, I was able to start definitively structurig the piece. Next, time for sketch the characters.

After the characters start, I focused a bit on the background to help me moving along with the image.

Back to the characters. I always begin with a lighter base for them to keep the shadows from getting too dark.

After starting to paint Medusa, I thought it would be better to change the angle of her face a little to make the details of the side wings and the orange eyes clearer from afar.

And to finish it off, the final rendering and polishing phases :)

I saw that you've read "The Chalice of the gods" so I was curious.

Do you think you will ever write something about Apollo and Ganymede? They could have an interesting relation based on how they feel about Zeus.

+ Ganymede's from Troy and Apollo was on Troy's side during the war.

It would probably take Ganymede some time to trust Apollo fully since Ganymede seems to be afraid of everything (especially the gods) and Apollo can be very teriffing (especially in the myths) but I think they could make good friends.

Also the fact that Ganymede was turned into a god against his will and Apollo was turned into a mortal 3 times (both done by Zeus)

There is some good frienship potential here.

i have definitely thought about Ganymede and Apollo having some type of relationship. i love to write Apollo in all types of situations with all types of people so shsdjekwska.

what personally interests me about them is the idea that their friendship would go against Zeus’ preferred order of things. Zeus’ strategy, at its core, is a Dividi Et Impera one. he doesn’t want the gods to rabidly kill each other but he doesn’t want them to be friends, either. mistrust and jealousy go a long way to make sure no one ever allies to take him down. it’s not exclusively his fault/his doing, but it does benefit him.

Apollo mentions multiple times that it’s hard to trust his fellow Olympians in Council and that backstabbing is a regular occurrence.

Zeus’ boytoy and Zeus’ most rebellious son being good friends would at the very least make the king wary.

ogmios is definitely an interesting asteroid to look at in a synastry chart where friends are involved. so i’m going break down some aspects i have with friends and my experience of them.

note: in synastry you always want to check according to not just planets and their meanings but according to house rulers too. in this instance, the ruler of the 11h: if positively aspecting ogmios: the planet person likely sees ogmios person as an ideal friend and group leader - ogmios person could be seen as a hero from the planet person's perspective. if negatively aspecting ogmios: planet person sees ogmios person as someone with a superiority complex or someone who is extremely manipulative.

ogmios-heracles: positive aspects: you may feel like you are the same people in different fonts. you could have a lot of the same values and benefits. negative aspects: the ogmios person may find the heracles person egotistical. the heracles person may find the ogmios person controlling. either way you too may be very similar but feel like there can only be one of you in this scenario (very friends to enemies OR enemies to friends at some point - could be like a cowboy showdown).

ogmios-ogmios: positive aspects: you likely feel like soulmates or like you are equals. you may experience very similar situations and have a lot to talk about regarding them. you may find this is the friend that it doesn’t matter how much time passes - you both pick up just as you left off.

venus-ogmios: negative aspects: venus person has high expectations of ogmios person in terms of their morality. venus person often believes that if ogmios person is going to be in-charge or the leader of the group then they should be honorable and have everyone's best interest at heart. ogmios person may see venus person as someone who is lazy or lacks maturity within a group setting. venus is also the planet of friendship so venus person may not want just a friendship with ogmios person or they may not want a friendship with this person period.

When they introduced Lena with Eddie I began to worry but she kept saying about her Captain and I was like...oh, maybe. Then the fight club and the 'I don't have a cat'. Lovely.

Just now I've read about the idea behind them and I was so glad they changed it because it was, clearly, not working. They would've been so good besties, you know, the f/m friendship, that myth figure.

And then I think about how they could and would possibly ruin it again, imagine:

the buck and maddie working out but with lena and eddie where there's 'a moment' and a kiss shows up - f/m should kiss every time on screen...it's a rule basically.

But they worked so much as friends (that's not really her fault if he decided to keep fighting) that they had to write her off lol.

People are trying to convince me that I’m not a lesbian and that I’m bisexual or something other than a lesbian so I’ll hook up with/fuck/have sex with guys. I can’t even have a female mentor. Im always paired up with guys because most people around me are religious and they’re trying to get me to end up with a guy. So they’re preventing me from having any female friends/mentors/etc unless there is a man involved

Oh, friend. I’m so sorry. Your sexuality is valid and real, whatever anyone says. You know what’s in your heart, and your feelings are beautiful and true, whatever anyone says. There is nothing wrong with being attracted to or loving women, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to form friendships with them. How they are treating you is wrong.Even if you were bi or pan (which you’re not), that absolutely doesn’t mean you have to be with guys, at all, EVER if you don’t want to, or didn’t find a guy you liked IRL. Attraction to men does not entail an obligation to be with them. Hell, I’m attracted to them, but men I think are worth being with are few and far between, and I got mad when people tried to pressure me into dating. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be when you have no interest in men at al and everyone is trying to police your life. You deserve so much better, and I hope that with time you manage to find somewhere more supportive where you can be yourself and spend time with whoever you choose. You never need to have sex with anyone, of any gender, and I’m so sorry that people are trying to persuade you that sleeping with men is going to correct your lesbianism. I hope that you are safe, and that they aren’t going beyond just suggesting you sleeping with guys. I’m horrified that they are trying to take away your right to form female friendships and mentorships. We all need rich and varied relationships in our lives and the support that comes from; LGBTQ girls very much still need friendships with other girls, and mentorship from strong women they can go to for advice.  They have no right to stifle your development as a person like this.  This happens to a lot of young LGBTQ people but it doesn’t last forever;I hope you can work on a plan for when you can be independent and can regain some control of your life.I’m so sorry that they are making your life harder. You shouldn’t have to deal with this at all, but I hope you can be free of it one day, as soon as possible. Homophobes fear that LGBTQ people are predatory; that they can’t be with another person of that gender without something happening. It’s plainly not true; being LGBTQ doesn’t make someone hypersexual or unable to maintain friendships with any gender. But really, this toxic belief just says a lot about how they see heterosexual interactions; that if a man is friends with a woman, he’d sleep with her if it was possible. I abhor the ‘wisdom’ that ‘men and women can’t just be friends’ because it’s just so stupid and wrong. Haven’t we all had meaningful friendships of the gender(s) we’re attracted to where there was nothing sexual involved? What does it say about people who believe that if you interact with someone of the vague gender you are attracted to, you’re bound to either sleep with them or fall for them? Do they see their frienship groups merely as potential fucks rather than real people they have shared interests and experiences with, and warm platonic feelings for? Do these people really not value the women in their lives unless they can see them on sexual terms?! This thinking, in every form, is horrifying. And hey, haven’t we as girls had wonderful, meaningful friendships with our lesbian and bi friends without sexuality getting in the way?We need to make sure that the myth of the predatory LGBTQ is shut down. So many LGBTQ people are made to feel predatory for their feelings and that’s not right. What makes anyone predatory isn’t the gender they are attracted to, but whether they view people of those genders as a piece of meat; and frankly, far more heterosexual men fit that bill than lesbians. I couldn’t imagine my life wihout my LGBTQ friends and it makes me so mad that people are trying to police your friendships and keep you apart from people. And you know what, even if you wanted to sleep with every single cute girl you met, it’d be none of their damn business, anyway. What consenting adults get up to is none of their concern. They have no right to police your frienships, your mentorships, your sex life, or your relationships.

i thought that when people say they broke up they meant they did somewhere in 2011 and thats why they had that gap where they werent really a duo, they had time to rebuild a good frienship and understand why things didnt work. thats what the past tense in dans mean. he meant it was obvious they were in 2009-2011. of course this is probably bullshit but isnt there 1% of possibility ? also that can be a au for a fanfic lmao.

That can be an AU for a fanfic, sure; I haven’t heard that for a theory but obviously the “2012 breakup” is a popular phanti myth and so I focus #justexthings primarily on things they’ve done in the past few years. I'm honestly not sure what you’re referring to in 2011 in terms of a break for them to rebuild; do you mean before they moved in together? And before they started Super Amazing Project? I wasn’t in the phandom in 2011 but it seems like a lot of relationship progress toward joint branding and really combining their lives.

But regardless of 2011, my #justexthings interest is in pointing out all the recent things that remind us that their millionnaire lives together don’t make any sense through the lens of even an extremely amiable exboyfriend relationship.

Just an Update

Hey y'all,

I tried to post earlier this week but I legit deleted before I could so gonna post this!

Firstly, I have been trying to stay positive about stuff but I've been stressed and depressed like a mug. Fortunately, I still got to go out this past Friday which REALLY improved my mood!

Why I'm sad...

Sooo I have really been feeling distant from my friends and while part of it is just bc I been busy, I just can see little cliques forming within groups that I am just not really a part of ya know?? I understand that people vibe better with certain other ppl but gosh darn it sucks to feel excluded.

Honestly, I am beginning to realize the truth in my mom/friend's belief that POC solidarity is a myth because there is some obvious preferential treatment towards members in the same race group. I love people but it hurts when they don't want to answer your messages/calls, forget to invite you, and can't vibe with your interests/hobbies. I need some black friends I guess because no one seems to understand ME.

I want to thank the Lord for the good memories and for allowing me a period of ignorance from these realizations. Now that I am back to reality, I know I just need to cope with this all.

Plans Going Forward

There is some GREAT news! Summer is less than 2 weeks away and I will also be studying abroad the fall semester which means I don't have to see people from my school for a WHILE! However, that also means I can't seem of my good friends :( (shockingly I have a few). Tbh I think the distance is what I need because if it is meant to be, we will reconnect in the second semester when I am back! Gotta stay positive and ENJOY life.

I thought college was where I would meet my besties but it might just be a time for me to truly understand how cruel and disappointing the world can be. Time for me to find good CHRISTIAN friends who will care about me and support my aspirations. I find it laughable that I felt so close to the people around me just a little bit ago and now it's like WHO YOU 🤷🏾‍♀️

Lowkey this really hits my feels HARD. I want to cry about this basically on a daily but don't want to appear weak to others. I made a post about it and my mom was like don't post nonsense like this again because it makes you look weak. (Newsflash. I am weak!)

The only way to overcome these emotions is to detach from the world and connect with a higher power at this point. People will never be able to truly solve your problems. It sucks that I am just now realizing that now. Better late never though.

Also, with the SMALL amount of time I have left, I am going to study, sleep, and enjoy the company of my friends who I don't have to stress myself out to be around. God reveals people's true colors and I think I need to stop trying to get close to people who don't want to get that close to me. I see the signs of then pulling away and I stress myself out trying to figure out what I did wrong. But I have just been being myself which will never be enough for some people.

I'm gonna pray to not be so sensitive because it's been messing with my mind for a while now because I keep thinking something is the matter in my frienships when it is just certain people's personalities. God PLEASE help me understand this and grow thicker skin. I am tired of being a weak guhh out here.
