Tumblr media
a night out without the kids. almost an unheard of event. but tonight corroded coffin were performing their annual concert the night before halloween.
sissy & oz toted their overnight bags up the paved sidewalk to grandma and grandpa’s house— the same house you had once called home when the wheeler’s took you in as a teen.
reaching the front door eddie squats to eye level with the twin three year olds. “okay you two,” he says in his fatherly tone, “last time you stayed the night grandpa said you terrorized the cat.”
“i no do it daddy,” sissy speaks her little voice high pitched and tattling, “ows chaseded hims.”
a frown spreads on her brothers face his brown eyes pleading, “i did not! sissy made tinky swim in the potty!”
eddie bites his lip to hide a laugh and you take a deep breath, “that’s another thing, the cat’s name is bruce, not stinky.”
“but mama,” sissy complains, head held high in a defiant pose— one eddie recognizes as a mini version of his wife, “boose 's hard to say.”
eddie ruffles her hair and stands up, talking out of the side of his mouth, “always arguing like someone else i know,”
his large hand slides down the curve of your ass pinching the leather fabric snug on your skin, giving it a tight little squeeze.
“eddie!” you scold, swatting his hand away, “not in front of the babies.”
he grabs your waist and pulls you back into him before you can rap your knuckles on the front door. his mouth is hot in your ear, “sorry mama,” he purrs, dancing his tongue on the shell of your ear, “you just look so fucking hot tonight.”
sissy and oz are both slapping the door with both palms as it swings inward. “who’s makin’ all that racket?!”
“gwampa! it’s us!”
“issy and ows!”
wayne smiles as big as he always did when his grandbabies visited, “are you sure y’all ain’t no robbers are ya?”
“gwampa’s silly, daddy!” oz squeaks, squeezing wayne tight around his leg.
eddie grins and chuckles, “aww nah buddy that word is ‘senile’”
you smack eddie in the chest and usher the kids inside to play with their cousin, alex. “thanks for watching them tonight, we really appreciate it,” you say to wayne reaching through the threshold and giving him a hug.
“ah, ain’t no problem,” wayne says flipping eddie the bird behind your back, “karen and i love these little turds.”
“u too oh two be good for grandpa and grandma okay? eddie hollers, “be nice to the cat, sissy… i’m talkin’ to you.”
her little nose wrinkles into a pout and her brows furrow together.
“swear to christ himself, that kid is the spittin’ image of you, tooty.”
“god help me.” eddie pouts, “i’m gonna go gray before i’m forty.”
you kiss the kids goodbye and wave from the windows of your jeep before heading to the hideout. eddie looked particularly good tonight, leather pants, a cut off shirt, he even let you smear some eyeliner on his eyelids before tonight’s gig.
“nervous?” you ask, carrying some cords from eddie’s old van that now belonged to big d.
gareth walks past you with an amp, “not really, the hideouts like home away from home, makes me feel 18 again.”
you smile and ruffle his still thick curls, “will coming tonight?”
a sad look replaces his smile, “haven’t talked to him in a week… last i heard from jonathan he was staying with joyce and hopper.”
“he’ll come around man,” eddie says coming through the back door, “he loves you.”
“yeah, i hope.”
the boys— men now— rocked a killer show, fans still screaming for the band even though half of them were married and the lead singer had two kids.
you were front in center, in your designated spot that you always stood after the first show where eddie sang ‘lady evil’ just for you.
now you were sporting a new homemade shirt, ‘sitter’ crossed out with ‘mama’ his old leather jacket on your shoulders.
a hand sits on your lower back you giggle, “jeez nance, how drunk are you?”
only it wasn’t nancy, but a random guy. burly and tall, a thick beard on his face matching the short hair on his head, balancing a cowboy. you didn’t recognize him from anywhere and you pull back with a shocked face,
he smiles and you can smell liquor on his breath as he leans in real close, “been watchin’ you all night little darlin’ looks like you need a drink.”
you scowl and turn away from him, looking for jonathan and nancy but they’re nowhere to be found.
“hey,” he blunders stumbling towards you, “you like cowboys?”
you don’t want to give him the time of day or even the satisfaction of a tasteful retort so you do your best to ignore him, looking at eddie as he turns to thrash the guitar riff with jeff.
eddie turns back around to continue the song and shoots you a wink, the same time a big sloppy pair of lips press on your cheek, hard and unwelcoming.
you didn’t see eddie’s eyes turn to black or the way he dropped the neck of his guitar hands balled into fist, you were seeing your own scarlet red, turning and slapping the face of the drunk asphalt “cowboy”.
eddie cuts the band and grabs the mic, “hey fucker!” he pushes his lips in a smooch and whistles like a dog, “here boy, up here.. yeah you— the guy who just got slapped.”
cowboy slap face looked up to the band, “what?”
“you must be new to town, huh? a drifter maybe?”
he lifts his head and spits on the ground, “what’s it to you?”
eddie laughs a little crazy-like, “… that,” he says pointing to you, “is my wife… and i’m sure you don’t know this or maybe your marbles are a little rattled up there with the cobwebs, but..” he jumps from the stage in a dramatic flare, wet hair bouncing behind him, skin slicked in sweat.
he tossing the mic behind him, standing tall and flicking the brim of the guys hat, toe to toe. “i’m not afraid to kill a man.”
“you’re bluffin’,”
“wouldn’t be my first, and for her,” he says moving you behind him, “won’t be my last,”

Righteousness of Man: Kappa x Y/N- Mini Series PRT 03

Y/n had become a big part of the community in the next few months. People looked to her when Kappa wasn't easily accessible and she was always happy to help. The one thing Kappa noticed more than how well she had acclimated into the family is how she showed them all affection.
He would never admit that he was jealous of how they leaned into her touch when she gave them encouragement or how she would kiss their faces before they all turned in for the night. Kappa would never admit that the idea of her sharing her kisses and touches with anyone other than him made his blood boil in a way it never had with any of the other women he had relations with. He wanted to reserve all of her intimacy for him and him alone.
He approached her as she held the face of Epslon in her hands and tugged on her elbow. She turned to look at him confused slightly before she gave a sweet smile and walked off towards him.
"Why are you hovering today?" Y/n asked making Kappa glance at her unimpressed.
"Why can't you seem to keep your hands to yourself?" Kappa answered her question with a question and she chuckled.
"Didn't you just get blown by one of those little peaches just a few days ago? Am I not allowed the same fluidity as you?" Y/n cocked her eyebrow at Kappa who narrowed his gaze.
"I do not share you." He spoke firmly and Y/n turned her body towards him.
"And you expect me to share you? You expect me to be this kept woman who only recieves intamacy from you whenever and however you want it?" She stepped into his space and he took a deep breath. She smelled sweet, like cherries or strawberries. It was intoxicating.
"I expect you to mother these people. Show them grace and love in a more appropriate way." Kappa's voice almost seemed like he was chastising her. She let out a laugh and gave him a playful shove.
"Is that what you do? Make these girls suck your cock and call you daddy?" She teased but Kappa rolled his eyes.
"Why do you feel the need to buck against everything I say? Is it so hard for you to listen to a simple command? Keep your fucking hands to yourself and there won't be any problems." Kappa said again and Y/n pouted.
"What kind of problems am I causing exactly? Last I checked, you like when I put my hands on you." She ran her hands down his chest and he watched them slither all the way down to his belt.
"Me...I like when you put your hands on me...only me." Kappa put his hands on top of Y/n's and she licked her lips.
"You know what you have to do if you want me to behave. I'm not going to share my body with you and have you whore yourself to everyone in this community." Y/n explained. Kappa didn't like her giving him ultimatums.
"You don't make the rules here sugar. I do. Who I fuck is up to me." Kappa's words made Y/n sigh as she took her hands off of his belt.
"How disappointing." She patted him slightly on the chest before walking back over to the others, spinning one of the girls around as she danced to the music coming from one of the vans. Kappa continued to watch from afar as she moved about the camp. She had completely disregarded what he had said about keeping her hands to herself.
"Would you like a massage Kappa?" One of the girls had approached him as he sat in a chair and he shook his head. She wasn't the only girl he shooed away that day. He continued to reject the advances from the other women until she he saw Y/n enter his trailer. He walked in a few minutes after her and she turned to face him.
"Would you prefer to bring your girls in here tonight or will you be fucking them in their own beds?" Y/n asked, a hint of a challenge in her tone. Kappa clicked the lock on the door behind himself before pressing his body against hers.
"You don't listen to anything I say." He gripped her neck, letting his palm hold her jaw.
"I have a daddy, I don't need another." She replied tilting her head away from his hand. He responded by gripping her jaw tighter.
"I don't want to be your daddy. I want to be yours...and you mine. Only mine....only yours." Kappa had conceded to her. She smiled slyly moving his hand from her jaw down between her legs. She had already gotten rid of her panties and allowed him to dip his fingers into her wet pussy briefly. Kappa pulls his hand back and looks at how wet she already is.
"You want me to be all yours, make me yours then." Kappa dipped his wet fingers into her mouth and she sucked her own juices from his filthy fingertips. Her hands yank his belt open and he pushes his pants just far enough down to free his cock, lifting her onto the counter and letting her guide him into her dripping cunt. They both make noises of pleasure, as this was the first time he had actually fucked her. She wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her hands into his greasy hair.
"That's it. Just like that. Make me yours." She moaned letting her head fall back against the cabinet, banging it roughly a few times as he bucked his cock up inside of her.
"You were made just for me. No one else will ever feel you like this." Kappa bit her breast and she groaned.
"Show the world I am yours Kappa. Show them why they can't touch what's yours." She praised him, running her hands down his back and grabbing his bare ass cheeks to try and shove him further inside of herself.
"I'll kill them. I'll kill them all if they ever touch you." Kappa's thrusts started to become sloppy and Y/n knew he was going to cum soon.
"I'm almost there. Fuck me harder Kappa, please!" She begged but Kappa couldn't hold off any longer as he came inside of her milking his cock inside her walls before removing his spent cock and replacing it with three of his fingers.
"Come on baby, cum on my fingers. You can do it. I want you to cum." Kappa held her gaze, one hand on her throat, the other shoving his cum inside of her pussy and expertly using his thumb to circle her swollen clit. Her moan turned into a scream and he felt a rush of her own release running down his palm. He quickly slipped back inside of her with his semi hard cock and her legs started to shake atop the counter.
"Shhhh shhh it's okay. It's okay. I've got you darlin." Kappa cooed at her as he slowly pushed his cock inside of her to keep both of their cum inside of her, a squelching noise vulgarly filling the silence of them trying to catch their breaths.
"Say you're mine." Kappa rested his forehead against Y/n's, feeling her breath against his face.
"You say you're mine first." She demanded making him chuckle.
"I am yours, only yours." He bumped his forehead against her own. She was hardheaded but he liked that about her. She opened her eyes and kissed his lips softly. It was a sweet gesture that they had skipped right over in the beginning of things but now felt so loving.
"And I am yours, only yours."

Y/N POV
The same comforting feeling floods my body as I knock on the door of my closest friends house, Joshua. We'd been attached at the hip ever since that one fateful day i joined a theater summer camp in my hometown of Frankenmuth, Michigan. I was 9 years old, scared shitless, and looking for a corner to hide in, a empty table to sit at, or a vacant wall to lean on. I'd been home schooled since I was old enough for school and never really had any interaction with any kids my age. My parents noticed i had been suffering with anxiety, so they did everything they could to get me out of the house. homeschool clubs, youth groups, you name it and I was there. They finally felt hopeless enough and signed me up for the summer camp where I would spend 2 weeks "getting out of my comfort zone" they said. Right. The first day everyone sat on the field and i tried my best to create the biggest gap I could between me and the other kids. I was humming a song when i heard a sound that made my head turn. A small mini van did a hard turn onto the road next to the field and stoped abruptly. i could hear muffled arguing before a small curly headed boy of about 9 or 10 was shoved out of the van by a kid the same age, I would later learn was his twin brother, Jake. The small boy tripped over his feet slightly before composing himself and flashing the huggest smile that made me feel immediately at ease. It was like strange, i had no idea who this boy was, but I felt as though he had erased every nervous thought I had in my brain.
He made his way to the middle of the field where everyone was congregating, looking around for somewhere to sit. I caught myself looking at him far too long before i returned my gaze to the trees surrounding the area, trying my best to distract myself from the overlapping conversations happening. after a little while of getting lost in my thoughts, i heard a voice to the left of me. I turned my head to find the same curly headed boy i saw earlier. "Hey, I'm Josh, can I sit next to you?" I stared at him before nodding my head and watched him as he sat next to me, crossing his legs together. I tried to think of something to say but became frustrated with myself, as i didnt have any idea what to do. It's like he read my mind as he started again "what's your name?"
"Y/n."
He smiled at me and nods "it's nice to meet you. Wanna be friends?" He extended his hand out for me to shake it, which I thought was weird as I saw only grown ups doing it. Still, I smiled and gave him my hand, and from that first touch grew the first, and strongest friendship I would have with anyone else. We grew up doing everything together and even after he graduated and i was still in high school we hung out every single day. He's still living in Frankenmuth, working on his band and film. Josh and his twin turned 21 last month and I turned 18 a few days after him.
My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door creaking and opening wide. "Hey kid, come in I have everything set up." Josh says as he flashes me that same smile that made me tied to him all those years ago. I walk in, making sure to bump his shoulder as I walk by and laugh "I told you already stop calling me that"
"I'll stop calling you that when you grow three years older, how about that"
"Fuck off" I laughed at his ridiculous offer and plop myself on the couch. I see the popcorn on the table and our favorite movie, Labyrinth, paused and ready on the TV. We watch a movie every Friday night and haven't missed a night since we were young. Even when Josh broke his leg and was in the hospital, he made me come over and watch Madagascar, because it was the only thing on.
"Where's everyone else? It's strangly quiet." I ask him as he grabs drinks from the fridge
"Dads at business meeting which mom decided to tag along on, Ronnie's at her friends house, Sams upstairs, and Jake is with 𝘝𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦 again" Josh says as he wiggles his eyebrows.
"Ah, I should've known. Why don't they just get married already? They've been together for what, 4 years now?"
"You're asking the wrong person, kid"
Josh chuckles as he puts the drinks on the table and takes his seat next to me and presses play on the remote. About 10 minutes in, I see him starting to doze off which makes me laugh as he has never made it through an entire movie in his life. he notices me laughing and punches me in the arm which makes me laugh even more.
I turn my focus back to the screen and watch for a good amount of time before I jump at the sound of a door swinging open upstairs. This makes Josh stir from his sleep as i see his brother come down the stairs.
Sam.
The youngest in the Kiszka family circus.
The most aggravating
My sworn enemy
And
My first kiss
I came to Josh's house for a party when i was a freshman and he was a junior. It had a decent amount of people, as far as high school parties go. I stuck with Josh and watched as Jake hung with his crowd, the band kids, and Sam hung with his, the asshole stoners. Fitting. The night went on pretty smoothly and we all found ourselves in the basement playing the most adolescent game known to man.
7 minutes in heaven
Everyone took their turns spinning the bottle and disappearing into the "love shack" as Josh called it. When it was my turn, I spun begrudgingly and my heart stopped as it landed on Sam. Long story short, we went to the closet, kissed once and ONLY once, and returned to the circle. Later on in the night, i was sitting on the couch as I heard Sam talking to his friends, trying to be quiet but failing miserably.
"So what happened in there man? Did she, you know" one friend says as he brings his mouth to his hand, mimicking what looked like he was shaking a salt shaker into his mouth.
Sams breath caught in his throat as he responded simply with a shurg and a smug grin. His friends began whooping and hollering, patting him on the back and laughing.
My jaw dropped to the floor as I saw the scene play out. I felt a deep wave of anxiety fall over me. Why didn't he correct them? What are they going to think of me? What is Josh going to think of me? My mind spiraled and spiraled untill only one emotion consumed me wholly.
Pure. Fucking. Rage.
Grabbing my drink, I got up from the couch, nearly knocking myself over with the amount of force used, made my way across the room to Sam and tapped on his shoulder, making him turn and throw on that same smug grin he had used just moments before. It quickly faded as I threw the contents of my cup directly into his face. He was livid.
And I was satisfied.
I tried my best to avoid interaction with him after that point, but we're in the same grade which makes it hard. Not to mention I'm over at their house basically daily with Josh.
I groan as I see the raven haired boy descend down the stairs which gets me a glare from him as he continues to the kitchen getting a glass of water. i ignore his presence as I check my phone. 11:07, shit. "Josh it's getting kinda late I have to get going"
He looks at me with his biggest puppy dog eyes "not yet y/n please we haven't finished the movie"
"You act as if we haven't seen it a million times" i say, letting out a chuckle.
He sees I'm not going to budge before nodding and getting up to walk me out. As I collect my things, i become aware of Sam's presence again, hearing him quietly laugh. I whip my head around to look at him, leaning against the fridge, his water in hand. "What's so funny?"
he returns my glare, his dark eyes piercing into mine, "oh nothing, you guys are just so pathetic. Watching the same movies over and over every single Friday. It's insane"
"Well lucky for you, you're not invited so you don't have to be 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘦 with us" I say as I send him a fake smile.
"Thank god" He rolls his eyes.
Josh scoffs as he opens the door for me and on my way out I make sure to flip Sam off, an action which I'm sure he reciprocated, but I couldn't find myself to care enough to turn around and look.
Josh follows me to my car and stops me before I get in
"You know life would be so much easier of you both could get along. Maybe not even that, just acting... Civil?"
"He started it with that fucking comment. Who does he think he is?"
"He is kind of right, I mean you said it yourself, we have seen some of these a million times"
"Yeah but it's Sam, we can say that stuff, he can't"
Josh shakes his head and smiles softly "look, all I'm saying is maybe try to ignore him at least? Maybe if he sees you stop reacting, he'll stop, and we can all sing kumbaya and hold hands and all that shit" he laughs again and starts singing kumbaya.
I laugh at him and shove his shoulder. I accept his idea, I could never say no to him "yeah okay I'll try, but no way in hell I'm singing that"
"Worth a shot" he puts his hands in his pockets before gasping "oh I forgot to ask, is there a chance of you auditioning for the play this year" he says with a mischievous smirk.
"Aha. That's hilarious. Might actually be the funniest thing you've ever said" I say as I get in my car laughing dryly.
"Aw come on kid. It could be fun? Besides, guess who they asked to be assistant director" He says with a proud smile
"Jake?"
He laughs and playfully shoves me "Yeah basically. Seriously though I'm really excited. I was really upset i wouldn't have any more stressful opening nights, bittersweet closing nights, dress rehearsals that go until 10pm, last minute freak outs before you go on stage." he pauses for a moment smiling to himself "but now it's like I'm not leaving at all"
I smile at him and find myself admiring the way he's so passionate about theater. Some people were just born for it, and that's exactly what Josh was. Born for the spotlight. He always got the lead role, partially because no other guys auditioned, but mostly because he was the best actor that school had. And they knew it too. If Josh wasn't more passionate about his music, I could see him going on to Broadway and shining even brighter there. This town didn't deserve him. Hell, I don't deserve him. But somehow I got him, and he has me.
"Im really happy for you Josh, but I don't know if I even can audition. I don't even know what the play is to begin with"
He smiles at me and grabs my hand "Romeo and Juliet. It's one of my favorites so you have to audition for me, please? i would die from heartbreak if you didn't." he says fake crying.
I shake my head laughing at him "fine fine I'll give it a shot, but you have to help me out."
"But of course madam. You will have the best teacher," motioning to himself and bowing, "and you will take my place as star of the school"
"No one can outshine you Josh and you know it" I say as I laugh
He smiles warmly at me "thank you y/n but you know what? I think you can. It's just prevented by this" he says poking his finger on my temple. "Thats why I'm here. To support you and make sure you know you can do anything you put your mind to."
I can't help but look at him lovingly before getting out of my car to wrap my arms around him and hug him tightly, almost as if he was being pulled away. He rests his chin on my head and copies my action. We stay like this for a minute before i finally let go, realizing im really late. "I love you Josh thank you."
"I love you too kid" he says as he smiles
"So I guess I'll see you at school tomorrow then? Or are you helping from home?"
"No, yeah I'll be there tomorrow." He smiles "get home safe and save me a seat at lunch, it'll be just like old times"
"Always Josh" i say, flashing him smile before getting in my car and begin driving home. My mind races between the new stress of auditioning, and the old stress of Sam as I finally pull into my driveway. I open the door to my house to find it completely silent. my parents must've gone to bed. I take off my shoes and climb the stairs before closing myself in my room for the night. And as I doze off, i remember Josh's words which give me comfort and more admiration for the curly headed boy, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰.
JOSH POV
I watch as y/n drives away before walking back inside to see sam in the same position as before. I take my shoes off as I start to speak "you know-"
"I really don't have the energy for a lecture from you josh" sam says rolling his eyes.
I finish taking off my shoes and walk to the stairs, giving up on the conversation before i even try to start it "yeah apparently you don't have manners either. I would suggest trying to get some before you go too far one day and make me lose her."
"Yeah right, like you guys would ever spend a moment apart" Sam says scoffing.
"You sound jealous Sammy" I chuckle
"Shut the fuck up" sam says as he slams his glass in the sink and pushes passed me, speeding to his room and slamming the door. I can't help but laugh at his childish display. I make my way to my room and have no energy to change, so I just climb into bed. I scroll through Instagram for a bit before deciding it's time for bed, but quickly shoot a text to y/n

Time: July 30th, the day after the sleepover Content Warnings: None.
“There is peace even in the storm." - Vincent van Gogh
Mackenzie needed to get out of town, at least for the day. The previous night's events had left her reeling, and if she had stayed cooped up any longer in a wrecked house that still had reminders of the disastrous sleepover, she was going to lose her mind. Paranoia was real for her, but instead of facing her problems, like she should've done long ago, she decided furthering her state of denial was even better.
Hopping in her Mini, after making sure the doors to her house were securely locked, the young dead actress peeled out of the driveway and headed down the road towards a destination she had found online.
With her windows down and sunglasses on, driving up the coast of Maine had felt like she was back in California. Her Spotify playlist dedicated to Brody could be heard briefly as she passed sporadic cars and beach houses, the sound drifting out into the open air only to fade away. And the scent of sea water seemed to permeate her senses, even if it had been only a memory from her past life.
An hour of road behind her, Mackenzie found herself pulling off at a small gas station that looked as though it had been built many years before she had even been born. It was a great place to grab something to drink and just for old time sake, some road trip snacks. The elderly man working the counter smiled softly at her as she laid her finds up on the counter. There had been something so familiar about him that seemed to bring her peace and a smile to her own sad features.
"Thank you." Her words were somewhat quiet, but genuine as she grabbed the small paper bag and glass bottled drink and headed back out to her car.
The road had been somewhat hard to find, but as she pulled into a gravel driveway, Mackenzie's eyes lit up with the first true bit of joy she had experienced in quite a while. The sign above the entrance gate read Sunshine's Llama Farm.
She had made it.
Sprinkled throughout the gentle rolling fields behind the wire fencing were hundreds of Llamas enjoying their day. It was like pure bliss for the undead girl, and in that moment, nothing else mattered.
Mackenzie slowly pulled up to a house painted an inviting shade of yellow, before shutting off the engine and getting out of the car.
"You must be, Mackenzie. I'm Angie. We spoke on the phone earlier." The woman had kind eyes and a sweet demeanor.
"Thank you so much for letting me come visit. You don't know what this means to me." Mackenzie walked forward sticking out her hand to greet the older lady.
After getting acquainted, she followed Angie towards the barn and was given the low down of interacting with the creatures. There had been some concern that the animals wouldn't take well to Mackenzie considering she didn't exactly have a heartbeat, but upon first meeting with one that had seemed to nuzzle her immediately, she knew she had made the right decision.
"Well, you know the rules. I'll leave you to it, and if you need anything, I'll be up at the house."
It was like her own version of Heaven and without any fear whatsoever of the creatures that outweighed her quite a bit, Mackenzie took to the fuzzy animals immediately.
She spent hours walking with them, taking pictures with them, and finally laying in the grass with them staring up at what she could only assume was a bright blue sky with white clouds sprinkled about, "Look Brody. I finally did it. I became an honorary llama just like you said I would." She laughed softly as one of the creatures laying beside her nuzzled her cold, pale skin.
Time passed with Mackenzie finding peace in a place she had longed to stay in, but she knew that the sun was starting to set and sweet Angie would be wondering where she was.
It was almost bittersweet saying goodbye and parting with the animals and the euphoria she had found in being out in the middle of nowhere with her favorite animals alone. She had even forgotten about being a zombie and all the heartache that existed within the four walls of the real world. But she had known where to come to escape and feel free from everything that fate had thrown at her, and she would be back.
With an almost tearful goodbye, Mackenzie pulled down the long gravel driveway watching the inviting yellow house, sweet Angie, and the llamas fading in the background. It was hard making the drive back to Wicked's Rest, but she didn't want to taint her new found safe space with regret and neglect knowing she'd have a place to go back to when everything felt so heartbreakingly overwhelming again.
Pulling into the driveway of her house, Mackenzie sat in her car flipping through the videos and pictures she had taken with her new furry best friends as a single tear rolled down her cheek.

TCAW - Gratitude Post Part 1
I know that Tobias & Casey will never be my most popular pairing, but I adore them, and I know there is something special about them. That has been made abundantly clear to me because several other creators have included them in their own worlds in some way. I want each of you to know... you have NO IDEA how honored and happy that made me. I always say it's not about big numbers of notes; it's about knowing you impacted someone somehow and bringing my crazies into YOUR worlds? That leaves me humbled. THANK YOU! So very much!

I loved Bryce x Jensen before, but now, we're family! I have GOT to bring some of that AU to the page, whether Jensen dropping a "Condoms Prevent Mini-Vans" T-shirt on Casey's desk or THE ICE SKATING! dfkadsjadsifdkfjdskj!!!!! THE ICE SKATING!!!! It's just too good. Thank you, MJ! :)

Bryce & Joshua being silly with Tobias & Casey - art by @bayleedrawsx, commission by @icecoffee90
Another one that just made me squeal! The idea of these four handing out and Casey and Joshua being their goofy little selves just warmed my heart! This commission will always be precious to me!
Open Heart Drabble by @lilyoffandoms
Valentine's Day Drabble by @lilyoffandoms More squealing. Y'all have made me squeal a lot! lol But I was so excited when I read this adorably fun drabble, Ethan x Merida, meet up with Bryce x Olivia, and Tobias x Casey - the idea of these three worlds converging is as much fun as it sounds. But I have to wonder if poor Olivia agrees! (Ethan, too, for that matter lol) Lily, I'm forever grateful to you for creating the first, and indulging me in the second!
Texting Gone Wrong by @storyofmychoices
And thanks to @lilyoffandoms genius, we were treated to this masterpiece by @storyofmychoices. OMG, I laughed SO HARD. I felt for poor, sweet Olivia, but I laughed SO HARD. lol This was/is/always will be the best! I love that we've intertwined our little worlds!
Seriously, to all four of you, I have these tucked away and pull them out on rainy days to bring a smile to my face. They mean so much to me.

~~~Meanwhile with Akiko~~~
She was happily humming and giving Fin and his fraction presents for being such good boys. Even if his team was twitching mentally scarred for life after dying and coming back alive. Yeah, he was NOT going to recover from that for a while.
"...H...How horrible..I..I Just died and then came b..back. What the fuck?" Fin said with eyes wide.
"Welcome to the club.." Rust and Maggie said with T-bone still rubbing her back worried even if he was worried too.
"Soooo better?" Akiko asked to make him jump and stand up.
"WITCH!!! GET BACK YOU WITCH!" he cries but he got sit down with guards keeping a eye on the treated ones.
"Oh come now. It was not that bad. You guys are healed at least!" she smiled even when she just finished Guam's fraction but everyone was looking deadpanned terrified now. They did not wanna remember this ever!
"..Though, we are still missing a few people.." she said but as the others look nervous to her, the doors open once more seeing the water snakes carrying Ashley and Rex's fractions. "Oh nevermind!" she smiled but they got set down tired up while Akiko smiled walking over to them. "Welcome my dears! I'm so happy you came for your check ups."
"P..Please spare us! I don't wanna go under the knife!" Ashley cries but Rex struggles glaring.
"What sort of doctor are you!? How is killing someone then come back to life good for you!?" he said.
"Because it heals you 100% like nothing happened! It'll be quick and painless for a moment so....It's hard to pick to go first so.." She picks up Ashley happily. "You first dear!"
"EH!?"
"NONONONO! PUT MY BABY SISTER DOWN!! PUT HER DOWN!" Rex said but Ashley got taken in the room as Hiroshi was taken in after with the two struggling to hear the door slam shut.
"WAIT PLEASE!! PLEASE DON'T DO THIS! I DON'T WANNA DIE! I DON'T WANNA DIE!!!!" she screams crying and struggling.
"Oh come now! It's not that scary just relax and it won't be long!" Akiko said laughing as Ashley screams.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!'
"ASHLEY!!!!"
Rex looks worried but then angry. "DAMN IT NAVARRO! IF I EVER SEE HIM AGAIN, I'M GOING TO BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF HIM!" he shouted but Rust sweatdrops. Yeah..he was not happy they got caught before he winces hearing Ashley's scream of terror in the room and HIroshi's scream.
~~~~~In the lower parts of the hospital~~~~~~~
"K...Kali, easy please calm down!" Wes was seeing Bernard and some of the other boys holding a very angry but growling Kali back from Navarro who was scared seeing her that angry.
"I'M SORRY ALRIGHT!? I'LL FIND A WAY TO MAKE UP FOR THIS!!"
"YOU MADE US DITCH MY BOYFRIEND YOU!!! AND ASHLEY TOO!" she said while Joshua was worried about Ashley.
"I said I was sorry! Look, this is to try surviving to get out! I'm sure we can find a way out and save the others-"
"Navarro, by the time we find them, they already got treated you idiot! Besides, you know your ass is dead if the others meet us with us again." Echo said with arms crossed.
"Yeah, I know.." he said back to her. "And your against me too on this!?" he said.
"No, even if I don't approve of you ditching our friends just to get out of here. That's still low even for you....though, I will say one thing." That's when Echo grabs his shirt to pull him close glaring at him.
"If you did ditch me, I would kick your ass myself and make you regret your choice....." she snarled that Navarro sweatdrops to hear that.
"Uhhhh r..right.."
"Wow, Navarro. Even I'm not that low-"
"Oh shut up! You joined Akiko and Ophelia back then to catch us! So don't you start!" he said back to Shdwkyz.
"Ahem, shouldn't we keep moving? We got away but for how long." Vivi said seeing the hospital lower rooms or the small boiler room. It was a wide area but it seems it was not as bad.
"Vivi's right. We need to keep moving." Yuu said but the group nods to walk forward again. They tried to keep together and keeping a eye out just in case. So far, they were able to stay hidden for some time but it was scary. Being hunted down by their friends and the younger members.
As they keep going, Willow keeps near Ethan but as she walks, her eyes spot some frost on a pipe. "Hmm?"
"What's wrong Willow?" Ethan asked.
"That's strange...their some frost or ice here but it's warm here.." she mutters looking to the ice. The others saw but something was..off. It was indeed warm down here and it wouldn't be that bad. So who....as she thinks, Willow's eyes widen to figure it out. "Everyone get back! "she said before moving Ethan back when some ice comes around to trap her.
"Willow!" Ethan said but he looks seeing someone but Tsulu, Enya, Mitena, and Tayen felt the sudden chill in the air while they got trapped in ice too.
"What the hell is that!?" Ethan said but Willow looks to see one of her members.
"So that's where they were. You were right Gerald!" Maki Riverbird or the ice sparrow on Willow's team said while looking ahead holding the teddy bear. His head was hidden thanks to the hoodie but he was wearing a over sized hoodie with a smile.
"M..M..Maki.." Willow was cold but she saw Ethan trying to free her by trying to smash the ice.
"Don't worry Willow, I'll get you out of this! Everyone help her team!" he said seeing everyone doing just that. Navarro saw Maki freezing the area to make it cold with the young ones showing up.
"Ethan, we gotta go!" Navarro said.
"I AM NOT ABANDONING WILLOW!" he said in a serious tone but that's when he saw the others rushing at them. "Just go! We'll keep up after we get away from them!" he said.
"But we can't leave you both here!" Yuuka said but Ethan deflects a gust of ice to see the young ones shielding their faces. "NOW! Just go!" he said.
"We are not leaving you Ethan! We can-"
"You heard him! Lets move!" Navarro said getting everyone out. Wow, he did it again ti seems!
"Navarro seriously!?" Yuu said but everyone quickly rushes out of the area back to the upstairs that Ethan was defending Willow as she was trying to melt the ice. "You guys wont' take us to the doctor! We are fine!" he said but the young ones looks to him before he saw they didn't move.
"We know..but you'll have to go either way." Taz said before yellow glowing feathers start falling around them. What the heck is this? As he looks to the feathers, he slowly felt sleepy?!
"The hell..." He held his head but he saw his fraction trying to fight it but slowly falls to sleep. He even saw Willow falling to sleep. "N..No....dang it.." he said but saw Swan showing up with feathers showing from her body as it made everyone fall to sleep.
"Sorry Ethan, you and the others are getting checked on. It won't hurt." she said as he falls knocked out. Upstairs, the remaining fractions were out to close the door panting.
"We were too late! They got them!" Yuu said but Ink and Jinx looks seeing it was down to Kali, theirs, and Joshua.
"This is bad. Were losing everyone!!" Joshua said panicking but he felt Kali grab his shoulders to shake him.
"Hey SNAP OUT OF IT! We gotta focus on getting out but we gotta find the others and get them away from that crazy doctor!" she said.
"Again, we will find a way-"
"YOU DON'T TALK SINCE YOUR THE ONE THAT DITCHED THE TWO IN THE FIRST PLACE!" Kali said to Navarro. He stops but sweatdrops worried.
"Again, I'm sorry!" he said in a panic. "Look, we are back in the main hall. We can just go and try to find a way out!" he said turning to walk but he got pulled back by Fosh and Jaron who saw something block their way.
"There you guys are!" Gerald said happy while he brings a wall down to look. OH come on! "Come on, we gotta take you to the doctor!"
"NOOOOOO!!" Now the remaining ones were running away from him as he chases them happily laughing. In a way, this was a game to him and it was helping him get better at it.
"Shit shit shit shit!!" Navarro said running with everyone else as they get to another room. However, it was blocked off. "It's blocked! Now what!?" he said.
"W..we can crawl through some of this! We can get out!" Melinda said as everyone was trying to crawl through. They had to be quick knowing Gerald was closing in on them. Navarro gets up but saw the remaining ones coming up.
"Come on you guys! Come through!" Jaron said reaching to help some. Kali was climbing up but that's when something was shaking the boxes to look down. It shows some of Taz's Kinfolk again but they were reaching to climb. Kali keeps away from the Kinfolk. As she gets to the opening, something tackles Kali down and with her fraction.
"THE FUCK!? GET OFF!" she roars as her fraction was taken. "GUYS!!" she screams as the cursed vixens heard going to try to help. Vivi got some of the Kinfolk away thanks to her void chains. They were clicking struggling as Jinx and them help Kali's fraction up.
"Hurry go!" Jinx said seeing Kali go through but as the vixens go that's when one grabs the vixens!!
"NO! Vivi!!"
"Melinda!!"
"Mouse!!"
Jaron, Shdwkyz, and fosh was shocked seeing the Kinfolk talking the vixens. Even Echo was kicking in ones arms while she was struggling.
"Let us go!" Vivi said.
"Guys help us!!" Mouse cries.
"Stop no!!!" Melinda said.
"Let go! Guys, help!" Echo said looking at them.
"We gotta help them!" Fosh said as the group was about to help.
"But we got to-"
"We are NOT leaving them Navarro! We already had us ditch too many because of this!" Fosh said worried but he only glares to look down seeing the vixens caught. He quickly pushes everyone out. "Come on, we gotta keep moving!" he said. He heard some protesting to not leave but he got the remaining fractions through before hearing Echo's voice.
"NAVARRO, YOU FUCKING TRAITOR!! HOW DARE YOU LEAVE US HERE!!! I'LL KILL YOU FOR THIS!! I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR THIS!" Echo shouted before the door slams shut before the three fractions got caught. Navarro knew she would kill him but he keeps getting everyone through to another area.
They were safe. But at what cost?

Today is being wildly eventful and I'm just high enough to spill on here
So
- Woke up at 4am after going to sleep at 2 and couldn't fall asleep again because stress and lack of meds and also sperm donor being an egotistical ungrateful piece of shit
- A friend paid for my meds so I went to the city to get them
- Got an email from shitty prof saying we have classes tomorrow but I can't fucking go especially since it's not even a real fucking class and I don't have money to come to the damn city again
- For some reason ADHD meds are hard to get without ordering them and it was sold out or something in 6 different pharmacies. Save for one who miraculously had one bottle
- I was crying by then and had to walk a lot
- Decided to go to a church to feel the energy maybe shake off the goddamn evil luck
- Unsure if that worked
- Walked to get the meds and had to keep focused all the way because everything was overwhelming
- Got meds, then went to sit and have some tea
- While having tea a guy and a girl sat down at the table in front of me and started talking about the wildest stuff while the meds hit for me. She looked and by the sound of it was some sort of mini IG model and he looked like he was part of a podcast. She was wearing foundation two shades lighter than her skin (she was white, mind) and it was absolutely caked and I don't mind saying that because she randomly started slut shaming other women while the guy just laughed awkwardly. Then they started talking about jail and torture. I think they both had ofs because they kept talking about taking pictures and "doing things for money" before the random jail talk
- I wasn't hungry at all so all I had was a cup of caramel coffee and a cookie from Subway
- Decided to take the bus because it was cheaper than the Uber and I was in no condition to walk more especially considering that I still have to walk home (on the train rn)
- At the bus stop I stood up to let this old lady sit and she was very grateful
- Lady didn't know my gender and said like 'oh thank you sweet girl or boy I can't tell but you look lovely'. Made this miserable week feel less shit. Yes it's only Tuesday. Pray for my ass I guess lol
- Went to get some drawing paper for my brother. Some old man at the shop was asking the clerk for glue and she pointed him towards the glue but apparently he wanted dentures glue lmao and was trying to get it from irl AliExpress
And that's all for now, let's hope the rest of the week is mostly uneventful because I'm losing my mind already
My phone also said: gender.
Tumblr media
- Adding because it's still going. Someone on the train is becoming the joker over a cancelled appointment very eloquently calling out incompetence absolutely spitting bars still going slam poetry who barely even stuttering goddamn power to this person. And someone was singing the Homer Simpson Spider-Pig song and is rooting for this person.
-Update: Made it home. But not before more wacky stuff. Saw this old lady who had some cats and was doing crochet in her van and said my sperm donor should die while saying she hoped god blessed me my brother and my mother and also my uncle and showed me this religious pamphlet thing. Then right after I saw a man training some sort of bird to be outside. After that I saw a man with his goats and finally I got in the house intact somehow.
Nobody cares but look at the goats. Yes I'm very rural and my phone's quality is pretty bad. Adds to the charm. All the goats had bells.

Mini Reviews: From Scary to Festive
November always feels like an in-between period. You're not quite ready for Halloween to end, but the commercial world is steamrolling to Christmas. And I think that's reflective in the mini reviews for this month:
Great Balls of Fire: I still don't know how this movie was made. Jerry Lee Lewis deserves the Priscilla treatment, because there's no way you can watch the scenes with Dennis Quaid and Winona Ryder without wanting to vomit. Even if Ryder was older than the real life cousin/wife.
Swingers: A group of friends (Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn, Ron Livingston, and Patrick Van Horn) wander through single life during the brief period in the '90s when swing music was cool again. I never saw this movie before, and it was better than I thought it would be.
F9: Okay, the part with Helen Mirren stealing the necklace was funny.
The Invitation: So glad to see Missandei get to be a Final Girl. Even this was better written than the last season of Game of Thrones.
A Million Miles Away: The life of Jose Hernandez (Michael Pena) who worked hard and beat the odds to become an engineer and astronaut for NASA. If you haven't seen this yet, definitely watch it on Prime.
Rustin: Holy crap. We should have learned about Bayard Rustin (played by Colman Domingo) just as much as Martin Luther King in school! If this movie doesn't get any nominations during award season, I'll be pissed, though I'm sure Domingo will at least get nominated for The Color Purple.
Good Burger 2: No matter how silly this sequel is, I'm just so happy to see Kenan and Kel do stuff together again.
Leo: Adam Sandler seems to be on a roll with good movies lately. It's not perfect: some of the songs were ridiculous, the third act faltered, and why the hell did they draw the kindergartners like they were hyperactive fish? Still, the movie on the whole was cute enough for me to overlook all that.
Genie: Melissa McCarthy plays a genie that helps a guy (Paapa Essiedu) reconnect with his family. Is it corny and silly? Yes. But no cornier and sillier than the Hallmark Christmas movies we get, and this was cute enough for me to overlook that. And I couldn't help laughing at the Tom Cruise jokes.

Get-Away Car [Ficlet]
(Inspired by the Criminal Masterminds Doomsday Heist Part 1 video) “Look,” Gavin began, his voice taking on a high-pitched defensive tone. “You said you wanted something inconspicuous!”
“Yes,” Ryan said, still staring at the car behind Gavin. “But I meant “four guys driving to a football game” inconspicuous, not “soccer mom on her way to Costco “inconspicuous.”
“Why is it beige,” Michael asked, frowning as he leant closer as if the car would suddenly change color upon closer inspection. “Who buys a beige mini van?”
“Gavin did,” Jeremy supplied helpfully. Gavin glared at him and Jeremy shrugged his shoulder with a grin. “I told you dude, you could have just stolen something. But no, you insisted on actually going to that car dealer and…”
“Wait, wait,” Michael said, snapping his attention from the car to Gavin. “You actually own this piece of shit?!” “I can’t steal the inconspicuous get-away car, can I?!” Gavin yelped.
“I would have,” Ryan said. He kicked one of the wheels, an expression on his face that indicated he somewhat expected the car to fold like cardboard and reveal the actual car behind it.
“At least I would have bought something that can do more than 120 mph!” he then added.
“Oh my god,” Michael suddenly said, his eyes sparkling with a sadistic glim. “That’s why you asked Geoff for that money, right?”
“I told him it was for heist expenses!” Gavin’s voice had turned so high he was almost squeaking.
“You asked Geoff for money so you can buy a fucking mini van! He is going to love this!” Michael was almost cackling with how hard he was laughing.
“At least he has insurance for the next year,” Jeremy threw in from behind. Michael’s laughter turned into outright howling.
“And the salesman also threw in some free floor mats,” Jeremy added.
“How do you know this?” Ryan asked who had stopped kicking the car and had returned to just staring at it in disbelief.
“Don’t…” Gavin began only to be interrupted by Jeremy.
“Thank you for asking,” Jeremy said, a broad grin having appeared on his face.
“Jeremy, don’t,” Gavin begged.
“Gavin took me along as support.”
“Come on, don’t!”
“And considering we were two guys buying a beige mini van, the guy thought we were about to adopt.”
“This isn’t that funny!”
“Which Gavin only realized when the guy asked if we already had kids or if it would be our first.”
Michael had bent-forward, hands resting on his knees as he was almost crying from how hard he was laughing. Even Ryan cracked a smile.
“It’s just a car, everybody can buy that,” Gavin huffed. “And your ideas for children names suck, Jeremy.”
“Tim and Rim are amazing names, you’re just a shitty husband.”
Michael had managed to stop laughing and opened his mouth to no doubt add his own take when something suddenly exploded behind them.
“Oh right,” Ryan said, a frown appearing on his face. “We were supposed to not be here anymore when that went boom.”
Burning debris started raining down on them. Behind them people were screaming and an alarm sounded. With a few quick steps Ryan made his way to the mini van, opening the driver’s door.
“I can’t believe I am saying this,” he then mumbled gravely. “But everybody, get in the van.”
And with that a very inconspicuous beige mini-van left a burning scene of crime.

For the fic asks, people probably beat me to them but: 🤡✨🦅 and just for funsies... 🧠 for Jesper since I'd love to know some of your thoughts on him
Cat, my beloved! Have some answers (with a bonus Kaz/Jesper friendship ficlet at the end, because I love these fools)!
🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?
Maybe this errs on the sweeter side of funny, but there’s one tiny exchange in “what a mother wants” that I’m really fond of.
The backstory is that a few summers ago, I babysat quite frequently for some dear friends of mine. Their kids have an impressive collection of stuffed toys, and of course, each and every one of them has to have a name—and to my surprise and amusement, these little fuzzy pandas and sloths and such are often named after fully-grown, real-life adults in their lives. Like, first AND last name and all. 😂
SO. All that to say, I’m very very fond of this exchange between Kaz and his daughter, which I not-so-slyly slipped into a parenthetical aside near the end of the fic:
Say thank you to Aaji, Kaz had instructed her, and when Lieze complied, he’d asked her, What will you name it? Lieze had contemplated for a moment, face taking on an expression reminiscent of her father. Jesper Fahey, she’d finally declared decisively, and Kaz had groaned.
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it.
Oh goodness! Okay. Um…
Well, I’ve always been fond of this line near the very end of “someone to watch over me:”
When she entered her room, she noticed that the four showy flower arrangements had been removed. Instead, atop her pillow sat a small bouquet of geraniums, clearly hand-picked, and tied with a single red ribbon.
Inej opened the small note attached to the ribbon, already grinning widely, her heart fluttering like petals tossed to the wind.
I drew the imagery of “petals tossed to the wind” from that (iconic) scene where wild geranium petals rain over her when Kaz rescues her at the Goedmedbridge in Crooked Kingdom. The simile felt quite apropos for a fic scene where Kaz is leaving a little geranium bouquet for her. 🥰
🦅Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?
👖👖👖My fics usually come together in patches—I’ll have a scene here, a scene there, a scrap of dialogue, a concept of a given’s scene choreography… but then all the connective tissue between those points isn’t determined until I’m actually writing. This is part of why I mostly write one shots; I think outlining a multi-chapter fic would be a nightmare for me. 😅 (And also, the time constraints of law school make it hard for me to plan ahead that much.)
I really enjoy the freedom I have in this creative process. For me, writing fic is a total escape from the strictures of academic/professional writing, and I worry that holding myself to a strict outline would suck a bit of the joy out of it. But I know that for other people, it’s just a helpful organizational tool! I spend more time on the back end of fic writing (editing and revising and figuring out how to piece existing scenes together) than on the front end (planning and outlining). Everyone’s process is so different!
🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them. - Jesper
(why did this turn into a mini-fic? why do I do this? ….here, have a thing:)
Jesper is the first person to whom Kaz confesses that he loves Inej.
The moon is high and the bottle of whiskey is running dangerously low. The two of them are sprawled out on the grass of the Van Eck garden looking at the night sky, because it was suddenly very important for a very drunk Jesper to point out all the constellations Colm Fahey taught him, and to pass along the stories Colm had learned growing up on the Wandering Isle.
The first mistake Kaz makes is disputing Jesper’s account: “No, you’ve got it all wrong,” he slurs, “My Da told me and Jordie this other story about those three stars on the right…”
And because Jesper knows a bit about Jordie by now, he becomes solemn and quiet; sobered, even in his utter drunkenness, as Kaz tells the story.
“I’m sorry you lost him,” Jesper finally whispers, and for a long moment, the trickle of the water in the nearby canal is the only sound between them.
Kaz grumbles something unintelligible at first, refusing to meet Jesper’s gaze. “It’s been ten years,” he finally articulates, and Jesper can see him clenching the grass at his sides with his pale, ungloved hands. “It shouldn’t still hurt. If I were stronger…if I were stronger, it wouldn’t still hurt. I got even with Pekka Rollins. I got my revenge. What’s left?”
“What’s left?” Jesper retorts a bit too loudly, pushing himself up to sit on his elbows, then immediately collapsing back to the ground at the wave of dizziness that follows. “What’s left is that you loved him, Kaz. Like I loved my Ma—like any of us still love anyone we lost. The love doesn’t just…fade away, just because they’re gone,” Jesper spits out, gesturing wildly with his hands. “And you’re an even bigger podge than I thought if you think that makes you weak,” he finishes resolutely, waggling one drunken finger near Kaz’s face.
Kaz rolls his eyes at the insult (and the finger), but seems to let the words sink in; the expression on his face tells Jesper how intensely he’s turning them over in his mind.
“Ugh,” Jesper groans, “what are you scheming about right now?”
“I love Inej,” Kaz starts simply—and it is a simple statement; a simple truth; one that neither Kaz nor Jesper is really surprised by, even if Jesper is a smidge surprised Kaz is actually willing to admit it out loud. “But I haven’t told her. Just in case…” Kaz’s mouth clamps shut, then opens once more, as though he cannot resist the drunken spill of words from his mouth at this moment. “I don’t want to be left alone with that kind of hurt ever again.”
And the pain, the fear, that washes over Kaz’s face for an uncontrolled instant—too long to believe Kaz doesn’t feel anything, even if he tried to deny it—has Jesper sliding his hands over the pearl-handled revolvers at his hips, trying to resist the urge to reach out and do something stupid, like hug his best friend.
“You wouldn’t be left alone,” Jesper promises fiercely. “Not this time. Not ever again. I haven’t always made myself trustworthy, but tell me you trust me about that much?” he pleads.
Kaz nods slowly, his throat bobbing as his gaze remains fixed determinedly on the sky.
“Good,” Jesper breathes. “That’s—that’s good.”
When their voices fade to silence once more, something like relief rises in the quiet that they’ve left behind.
“Kaz?” Jesper can’t help but ask a few minutes later.
“Hmmph.” The hangovers are going to hurt tomorrow.
“You’ve gotta make me your best man, okay?”
Kaz shoots up in a panic. Jesper maintains his position on the ground, arms tucked lackadaisically beneath his head. “We’re not getting married, Jesper.”
“Of course you aren’t,” he laughs airily. “I mean, you’d be a real asshole if you didn’t tell her you loved her before you proposed.”
“Fuck you, Jes.”
“Love you too, Kaz.”

Defender, Protector, Keeper
Part 3
A/N: This is the 3rd part of the mini series! Here is part 1 and part 2 in case you missed it or would like to reread any of them :) Here is my rdr2 masterlist in case you haven’t checked that out!
Warnings: nothing outside of canon for the game, name calling, Micah being Micah
Word Count: 1.9k
Summary: Arthur comforts you after you’ve had a rough day.
***
A cool breeze blew through Clemens Point. The leaves in the treetops rustled as they swayed.
You watched from the edge of John and Abigail’s tent as Abigail tucked Jack into bed.
The two youngest members of the Van Der Linde Gang were having a sleepover, or as best of one as they could do with living in the same area. Ben was spending the night in Jack’s tent. The boys would often switch back and forth between the tent you shared with the girls and the one the Marston family stayed in.
Abigail smiled at you as she left the tent.
“I ain’t seen Jack this happy in a long time.”
“I’m glad he’s gotten along with Ben.”
“He was asking me earlier how long you two would be staying.”
You looked out across the camp, your eyes coming to find the fire that you were heading towards.
John, Charles, Sean, Micah, Sadie, Bill, Javier, Karen, and Arthur sat around the fire.
“I’m not sure, Abigail. I hope not for long. I just want to be able to get somewhere better for him, for Ben.”
“I know.” Abigail nodded. “I’ve been telling John that since he came back. I don’t want my boy growing up in this.”
The topic was dropped as you neared the fire.
“Ah, Miss Y/L/N!” Sean waved you over, motioning to the empty seat beside him. “Come have a drink with us!”
You would have happily gone and sat next to him, but then that would put Micah Bell on your other side.
Arthur noticed this before Sean even finished his sentence.
“Here, Miss Y/L/N.” He stood up, placing his hat on his head. “Have my seat.”
“Oh, Mr. Morgan. I couldn’t do that–,”
“It’s quite alright. I’m gonna go over here and sit with Sean.” Arthur took the drink in his hand and walked around the fire.
“Come on over, Y/N.” Sadie motioned to where Arthur had just been sitting next to her.
“Why didn’t you just get up so they could sit next to each other?” Karen whispered to Sadie.
“If I sit beside Micah, someone might get hurt.”
“I hear you did rather well on the job yesterday, Y/N.” Karen looked around Sadie to you. “How well did you handle the boys?”
“Oh, they were rather well.” You smiled, brushing your fingers along a stitch on your skirt. “I think everything went smoothly for the most part.”
“Except when Sean decided to announce to everyone in town that we were there to steal from them.” Javier grunted.
“Hey! Everyone made it back in one piece!” Sean proclaimed. “If anything, I think what I did helped us. Had to do all the hard work myself. As always.”
“Miss Y/L/N had to do all the work, Sean. Talkin’ sweet to that old man.” Arthur chuckled. “That ain’t something you can do, friend.”
“Gimme a pair of high heels and a skirt, and I’ll show you!”
“Last I knew, we didn’t go around praisin’ people who did nothin’ but lay on their back.” Micah stood up and moved to put a piece of wood on the fire.
“Choose your next words wisely, Micah.” Arthur warned him, flicking the ashes from his cigarette on to the ground.
You watched as Micah tossed the chunk of wood into the fire, drawing thousands of fireflies from the flames.
“Y/N’s put in more work than you, ya lazy bastard.” Abigail snapped at him.
“Of course you think she does. You workin’ gals gotta stick together, don’t you?” He laughed.
“Watch what you say to my wife, Micah.”
“Oh, come on, Marston. I’m just joking with the ladies. Don’t mean any harm.”
“You’re doing a fantastic job at working your way to a broken nose, Mr. Bell.” Sadie told him.
“There’s no need to talk down on Y/N or Abigail, Micah.” Charles said. He was going to make an attempt to settle things between everyone before it could get out of hand. Micah was just looking for a way under everyone’s skin. “Their jobs are just as important as mine or yours.”
“They’ve earned their stay.” Javier agreed. “No need in bothering them about it.”
Micah returned to his seat, displeased with how things had played out.
The tension that still resided in the air made your stomach twist up.
You stood to your feet and began to leave. But you didn’t get more than two steps before Sadie was stopping you.
“Where are you goin’, Y/N?”
“I have a few things to finish up before bed.”
“Don’t let Micah Bell being Micah Bell scare you away.” Sean shook his head.
“Mr. Bell doesn’t scare me, Mr. MacGuire.” You gave the Irishman a little smile. “I want to finish the chores before I get too tired to do anything else.”
Arthur shook his head, dropping his gaze to the fire as you left.
“Bastard.” Sadie cursed under her breath.
“Now why do you have to be like that, Micah?” Karen sighed.
“‘Cause he’s a sad little man, Karen.”
“What did you just say?” Micah jumped to his feet, ready to jump over the fire to get to Charles.
Arthur stood up, ready to step in to help Charles if needed.
“Sit your ass down, Micah.” Javier said.
Arthur left the fireside as Micah slowly sat down. Arthur just wanted to get away. Maybe he’d throw in the towel early tonight.
As he was crossing the camp to get to his tent, something moved out of the corner of his eyes.
You were folding down the laundry that had been handing on one of the clothes lines.
The gunslinger came to a stop for a moment, letting out a sigh. He knew he wouldn’t be able to sleep if he didn’t at least check on you.
He took his hat off as he approached you, fixing his dirty blond hair.
“Miss.”
You turned your head, a light smile coming to your lips.
“Mr. Morgan.”
“It’s awfully late. You don’t gotta be doin’ anyone’s chores at this time of night.” He noticed that the shirt you were folding belonged to Dutch and the pants on top of the pile that was already folded belonged to Lenny.
“You should be sleeping. Getting some rest while Benny’s over with Jack.”
“I’ll sleep when this is done. There isn’t much more left.” You assured him. “Besides, I wouldn’t want anyone to think I wasn’t pulling my weight.”
“Ignore anything that comes out of Micah’s mouth. That’s what I do. Hell, I think most of the gang does. He’s just a sour bastard.”
“I know.” You placed Dutch’s shirt on the pile of clean clothes then picked up one of Jack’s shirts. “I know his kind. I just don’t want to stir up the waters.”
“The only ones whose opinions matter are Dutch and Hosea’s, and as far as they are concerned, you pull your weight just fine. In my opinion, you pull more than just your weight.” Arthur pulled out his carton of cigarettes and offered you one when your eyes flickered to him.
“No thank you.”
“I never see you sittin’ down.” Arthur lit his cigarette and tossed the match aside before putting the cigarette between his lips. “Every time I see you, you’re movin’ around camp carryin’ somethin’ or cleanin’ somethin’.”
He took the pants from you that you were folding and put them aside.
“This ain’t a labor prison, Y/N.” His words were a bit muffled by the cigarette he held between his lips. “Why don’t you come sit with me? That way we don’t gotta deal with Micah or nothin’?”
“I’m…. I’m not sure, Arthur.” You rubbed your hands together nervously, bringing your eyes back to the clothes that still needed to be finished.
“Trust me, pumpkin, these fellas here don’t mind unfolded clothes.” Arthur took your hand and tugged you gently away from the mess of laundry.
When you began to willingly walk with him, he let your hand go and instead shoved his hands into the pockets of his jacket.
He led the way down to the edge of the lake, opting for a seat on a washed up log. You sat next to him, resting your hands in your lap.
A silence filled the space between you and Arthur Morgan. Crickets chirped quietly over the sound of the water brushing against the shore.
“You know…. I, um, I wasn’t always….” You trailed off, unsure how to word what you wanted to say without being too blunt. “I wasn’t always like this.”
Arthur took the cigarette from his mouth, steadily blowing smoke from his lips.
“I-I mean, I guess I was. That’s how I met Ben’s father….” A sad smile tugged at the corners of your lips. “When I found out I was pregnant, he insisted that I stay with him. He took care of me.”
You dropped your eyes down to your hands.
“While he was around, I never had to be that way. But after he passed….” You trailed off.
“M’sorry for your loss, Y/N.”
You turned your head to look at Arthur, a twinkle coming to your eyes even in the dim moonlight.
“Everything happens for a reason.”
He nodded softly.
“Can I ask you somethin’ about Ben?” Arthur asked, his eyes flickering up to meet yours. “I-I don’t want to cross any lines, so just let me know if it’s–,”
“You can ask me anything, Mr. Morgan.” You smiled gently at him.
“Has he always been…. Has he always been so quiet?”
You shook your head a little.
“No. He was a talkative little boy for a long time. Ever since he started babbling and cooing as an infant. But…. A few months ago, he stopped talking. He’s been through a lot.”
“Oh, I don’t doubt it.” Arthur nodded his head gently. “He’s a strong boy.”
“He is. We’ve…. We’ve come far, you know.” You looked across the lake. “I-I’ve tried to do everything I could for him.”
“You’re a great mother to him, Y/N. Don’t doubt that.”
Your eyes briefly met Arthur’s before you shook your head, tears blurring your vision.
“He deserves better than this. Better than…. than this lifestyle. But this…. Arthur, this is all I can give him right now. This is the safest place we’ve been in a long time.”
“You are doing your best, Y/N. Sometimes the best ain’t ideal but it’s all we can do. You are trying and that’s all that matters.”
You shook your head again, brushing the tears from your cheeks with the sleeve of your coat.
“What kind of mother lets their child stay in a camp of wanted folks?”
“You know, my mother died when I was young. My old man never tried to take care of me.” Arthur flicked his cigarette on to the ground and stepped on it. “There are parents out there that don’t give two licks what happens to their children, Y/N. I know this place ain’t much at all and it ain’t ideal for a young one, but that little boy has a place to lay his head at night, he’s got food when he’s hungry, and he’s got a whole handful of us lookin’ out for him when he needs it. That’s all because of you.”
You took a deep breath through your nose, sitting up a bit straighter as you forced yourself to stop crying.
Your eyes found the thin, crescent shaped moon hanging above the lake. You reached over for Arthur, your hand finding his forearm. Your hand traveled down his arm until you reached his hand. Wordlessly, you laced your fingers together.
Arthur let out a small breath and gave your hand a squeeze.
“People like us, like you and me, we do what we got to do so we can survive. Sometimes it ain’t pretty and it ain’t what we want, but it’s what we have to do.”

JJ laughed in your face. “You’re a real fucking idiot, you know?”
You took a step back from him, shaking your head.
He wasn’t real. This wasn’t real.
He came closer as you tried to move away. “Why would I like you? Why would anyone like you?”
He wasn’t real. This wasn’t real.
“You should have quit while you were ahead. If you could consider anything you did being ‘ahead.’”
He wasn’t real! This wasn’t real!
----
“Y/N, please. You have to get up at some point.” Kelly’s voice drifted through the door as you closed your eyes for the tenth time within a minute.
You didn’t trust yourself to speak properly as you tried desperately to wipe any memory of your dreams. Nightmares, more like it.
Your door creaked open and you simply turned so that your back was facing it.
“Y/N…” You mom walked in slowly, sitting down on your bed softly right behind you. “Please talk to me, sweetie.”
It had maybe been a week since you had been to the boneyard. It had been a week since you saw your friends. Since you saw him. It had been a week since you entered your room and decided to not come out.
You threw off your blanket abruptly and turned to your mom. “What is there to talk about?” You didn’t mean to snap, but you couldn’t hold back. Not anymore. “He never wanted to date me. It was all some stupid joke so he could get paid.”
No tears could leave your eyes anymore. You were just so sick and tired of crying.
Without letting her say a word, you turned your back back on you mom and laid down.
You could hear her sigh, as if what she wanted to say wasn’t what she should say. “That can’t be true, Y/N/N.” But she said it anyway.
How could your own mother be defending the boy that broke her daughter’s heart?
You let out a scoff, and that was it. Anything else said or asked fell on deaf ears.
----
Di yanked your arm, pulling you out the front. “You’re up and dressed, you’re not turning back on me now.”
“You sat on me until I agreed to get up…” You muttered in a grumbly manner. If it was up to you, you’d spend your dying breath lying in bed.
She rolled her eyes and glanced back at you as she unlocked her car. “That’s because I know what’s good for you. Moping around like Tom Holland will come and make you feel better if you wait long enough is not good for you.” She brought you around to the passengers side of the car and forced you in like a mother forces her child into a car seat.
You were going to grumble some half-baked comeback, but your mind couldn’t even think of how to start a response. You were just going to go along with everything Di said until you could go back to your bed.
“Where are we going?” You asked after Di pulled away from your house.
“You’ll see.” The smile that creeped onto her face was hard to miss.
You groaned, complying in a slow manner - you took your time putting your seatbelt on. When Di pulled up to the boneyard, you took even longer to get out of the car.
“I don’t want to be here…” You whispered, eyeing the place like a monster was going to creep out and attack you.
Di rolled her eyes as she got out. “You don’t want to be anywhere but your bed.”
“Di.” You gave her a look.
She sighed and lightly pulled your arm. “Look, Y/N, I know. But you this is the only place we could think of coming.”
“I-” You started before pausing. “We?”
The smile reappeared on Di’s face. “Yes, we.”
Just then, the chatter of two girls came closer to you. You could just barely grasp what it was about.
“That’s not very reasonable.”
“Hey, it wasn’t my idea.”
“But you’re the one who agreed with it.”
“So did you.”
“I can’t believe we’re doing this for him…”
“Kie, Sarah? What are you two doing here?” It was a stupid question, as the boneyard was free for anyone to go to.
They both smiled, completely discarding their previous conversation.
“Di said you could use some girl time.” Sarah answered, lifting up an eight-pack of beer.
Kie nodded, lifting up a cooler. “And what better way to enjoy ourselves than a little picnic?”
The smile that was slowly creeping around her lips vanished completely at that one word.
The three girls exchanged looks, having a mini conversation within their eyes before any of them tried to diffuse you.
“Come on, Y/N/N. Let’s drink and have some fun for once.” Di says as Kie starts handing everyone beers, starting with you.
----
“This isn’t going to work.” JJ muttered as John B peeked out the van’s back door.
John B rolled his eyes and looked towards his friend. “When did you turn all lovey-dovey?”
“I could ask you the same.” JJ shot back, deflecting the question.
“But you didn’t,” Pope entered, turning around to look at JJ from the front seat. “So spill.”
With a sigh, JJ slumped back against the van’s sliding door. “I don’t know, man. I didn’t even know who she was until Gavin…” Trailing off, he shuddered. “I’m such a fuck up…”
“No doubt about that one…” Pope muttered, only to be hit by John B. “Okay, sorry.”
John B pushes JJ to the side so he can open the sliding door. “Look, dude, you gotta confront her and tell her the truth.” He hopped out of the van.
JJ groaned as Pope followed John B out, hitting JJ on the shoulder. “She’s not going to listen to me.”
“Yeah, she won’t if you sit on your ass all day moping around.” John B said, banging on the side of the van.
JJ groaned again and practically fell out of the van.
----
Sand collected in your shoes as you and the girls walked down the boneyard, full up on food.
Sarah stopped at one point and looked towards the horizon. “It’s getting late…”
There was something in her voice like she was expecting something. Like something hasn’t happened that was supposed to. And that made you nervous.
“Well, I really did have a good time, but I should get going… Di?”
You looked towards your best friend, who’s face seemed to resemble that of how Sarah’s voice sounded.
“Di?” You asked again.
She gave you a sheepish smile. “Let’s just wait a moment more.”
A moment more? Did they plan something else?
You opened your mouth to ask Kie something when you heard a boy’s voice.
“We’re already late, dude. I wouldn’t be surprised if they left.”
It took you a moment to connect the voice to a face. John B. AKA, J’s best friend. If John B was here, JJ couldn’t be far behind.
You turn you back towards where the voice came from, looking directly at your friends. “I have to go. Now.”
You just had the first decent day in a little while - you couldn’t have that ruined.
No one made an attempt to leave. To usher you away. They all just gave you apologetic smiles, looking at a presence that stumbled behind you.
The urge to just walk away was almost too strong. But you pushed past it to turn around.
The boy before you didn’t look the greatest. The blonde hair that could never get messy was completely unkempt. The blue eyes that were always shining were dull and looked like they couldn’t shed a tear, even if in desperate need to.
You stumbled back. You couldn’t decide if it was because he was standing in front of you, or because he looked so different.
“Y/N…” His voice was quiet, as if afraid of breaking something if he raised it. “Can we please talk?” There was something shaking within his being that transferred through his voice.
You shook your head. And shook your head. And shook your head.
You couldn’t do this. Not here, not now.
“Red, please.”
He took a step towards you and you immediately stumbled back again, tripping over your own feet.
He moved to help you up, but someone you couldn’t see stopped him.
You scrambled to your feet, moving backwards. “No…” You shake your head, trying to string together your words. “No. You don’t… You don’t get to do that…”
He tried to reach out to you.
“No!” You snapped, balling your fists and biting the inside of your cheek to bite back tears. “I woke every morning wondering what you saw in me. Wondering why suddenly, one day, the guy every girl at school wanted asked me out. Gave me the time of day. I couldn’t sleep some nights because all I could think about was you, JJ!”
You didn’t know if it was your blurry vision, but it almost looked like he was breaking as much as you were.
“You’re a real jerk, thinking you can toy with someone’s feelings like that, JJ Maybank. A jerk I would do anything to go back in time to stop myself from falling in love with.”
When you felt a sob suffocating you, you turned your back on JJ. You wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing you this way. That’s why jerks did this right? Hurt people? To see them upset?
Everyone, not just JJ, seemed stunned by the mention of love. You couldn’t blame them. If you had been told you’d fall in love with the bad boy only for him to break your heart, you wouldn’t believe it either.
But the mention of love seemed to make him more determined. “You have to let me explain…”
“No, I don’t,” you couldn’t stop your voice from shaking. “I don’t.”
You couldn’t turn to even give him a look or say goodbye to anyone as you started to walk away.
You didn’t care if Di was following you or not. You’d walk home if you had to. They had to have orchestrated this on purpose.
----
You hadn’t talked to anyone since then. You had your mom drive you to school and home everyday. As much as you could, you made sure to either be alone or away from the participants that made your heart hurt more.
They seemed to get the hint after a day or two, leaving you alone. For the most part.
Every now and then, you could catch a glimpse of Di and Kie looking your way in the hallways or in class.
At lunch, you either sat alone or went off to the library. When you were in the cafeteria, you noticed that Di seemed to replace an empty seat.
It had now been two weeks. Maybe three. You couldn’t tell anymore. Every day just blended in at this point.
At your locker, on the Monday of the third week, you opened it to find a note fall out on the floor. Looking around, you couldn’t tell if anyone stood out in the crowded hallway.
You stooped down and picked it up, looking around once more before you read it.
“I’ll use you as a warning sign.”
With furrowed eyebrows, you looked around once again. This had to be in the wrong locker.
You sighed and shook your head, placing the note in your book and walking off to your next class.
The next day, when you went to your locker at the end of school, another note slipped out to your feet.
“That if you talk enough sense then you’ll lose your mind.”
This note left you even more confused than the last.
The next day, you got two notes in one day.
“And I’ll use you as a focal point.”
“So I don’t lose sight of what I want.”
A feeling started in your stomach after reading Wednesday’s notes. The lines felt familiar, and you felt like you knew who they were coming from.
Again, the next day, there were two notes.
“And I’ve moved further than I thought I could.”
“But I missed you more than I thought I would.”
The last note had hit you hard. Harder than you thought a note could.
You knew who was giving you these notes. You knew who, but you couldn’t figure out why. You knew who, but you couldn’t bring yourself to throw them away.
On Friday, you walked to school. You were going to have to walk home too.
You went through the whole school day like normal. Each time you stopped at your locker, which was almost after every period for some reason, there was never a note.
You wouldn’t admit there was a sinking feeling replacing the other feeling in your stomach.
When the bell rang to signal the end of eighth period, a glimmer of hope tapped you on the shoulder. Asked to be seen. Heard. But you ignored it.
Once at your locker, you froze for a moment. You didn’t know why. If there was another note, then there was another note. If there wasn’t one, why should it matter?
You opened it slower than you wanted, messes up on the combination three times.
There was a moment's pause before you flung the piece of metal open. Nothing came out. There was just no note today.
Why should you even care? It was just the lyrics to a song, written on a post-it note. Of all the kinds of paper he could have used, he chose post-it notes. That has to mean he doesn’t care.
Why do you even care? It was him who was the jerk, only dating you for a quick buck. Of all the kinds of ways he could have gotten money, he chose to break a girl’s heart. That has to mean he doesn’t care.
You put away the books you don’t need and grab the ones you have to take home. It was going to be another long weekend, and you knew you couldn’t do it without some distraction.
You closed your locker, only to jump at the sudden appearance of someone behind it.
“I’m really really really sorry, Y/N, but not being able to talk to you has been killing me!” Di did look upset - her usual complete peppy personality was obviously crooked. Like something was tipping it off to the side.
She spoke again before you could start anything. “I know we shouldn’t have gone behind your back like that. We - I thought it would be a good idea and it was the total opposite.”
You sighed a little and shook your head, throwing your backpack on. “I just wasn’t ready to face him like that...”
“I know, and I should’ve known then too.”
“Promise me one thing, Di.”
Di nods. “I’ll promise you almost anything.”
You couldn’t help but smile a little bit, as you knew what she couldn’t promise you. “Promise me you’ll stop intervening with my love life. That’s something that should be just my business.”
She looked to be thinking it over for a second before nodding again. “I can promise you that.”
You smiled as she hooked her arm in yours, dragging you outside to her car like she used to.
As soon as you got to the parking lot, feet away from Di’s car. You froze.
There was a path laid out right in front of you. A path of ripped up pieces of paper. Each piece of paper had something written on, but you’d have to stoop down to see it all.
The back of Di’s car had a giant piece of paper taped to it. It was the note you didn’t receive today.
“I found love where it wasn’t supposed to be.
Right in front of me.”
“Before you say anything,” Di started to whisper as she walked off to the side. “This was already put into place before I made that promise.”
She was completely out of your line of sight, but you didn’t care. You were too caught up in the boy that was walking into your sight, right next to the note.
You didn’t know what to say. Seems like JJ didn’t know either.
Biting the inside of your cheek, you said, “Who picked out the song?”
Lame first question to ask him after everything that’s happened.
He was a little caught off guard you spoke first. “Kie…”
“She has good taste…” You trailed off, biting your cheek harder as your vision threatened to block off JJ’s image.
He simply nodded, as there isn’t much else you could say about that.
“So you were the one leaving the notes in my locker…” It wasn’t a question, as after the third note you knew who it was.
He nodded. “I didn’t want to get you upset again…”
“JJ-”
“Y/N, look,” he took a step away from the car. “Please just let me explain my side. Then you can yell at me as much as you want. But I just need to tell you my truth.”
You shut your mouth and nodded. You might have been a little bit of a bitch for the past couple weeks to him, but you had good reasoning. Nonetheless, you thought he still deserved to explain everything to you. You deserved it.
He took another step, this time towards you. You didn’t move away.
“This kid named Gavin came up to our lunch table a couple months ago, wanting one of us to do his dirty work. None of us were going to do it. Even me. But I took it. That was the day I came up to you at the kegger.” He paused, running a hand through his hair. “I never thought any of this bullshit was gonna happen. On our first date, I was going to tell you everything. I really was.”
He paused again, so you asked a question. “Why didn’t you then?” Your voice was quieter than it had been minutes prior.
He took a second step towards you. You didn’t move away.
“It was like when I took the stupid bet. I looked at you, and it felt like John B was going to shoot me in the gut with a paintball gun if I ever ruined that glint in your eyes when you just smile.”
You couldn’t look at him, so you tried to read as many of the notes on the ground as you could. “You’ve done worse than that…”
JJ sighed. There was more in that sigh than just, “oh well,” or anything like that. It was shaky. “I know… I’ve been beating myself up everyday about it…”
“As much as I hate admitting this, I was scared. Scared of this way you made me feel. That’s why I kept pushing back telling you the truth. Because I was afraid, if I did, you would leave.”
This is when you decided to look at him again. But not just look at him. Really look at him. And he looked how he did at the boneyard, yet somehow worse. There was a sense of vulnerability in the way he stood and the way he looked at you and the way he talked to you.
He was opening up.
You took a step towards him as he began to speak again.
“I don’t expect you to forgive me. I don’t expect you to ever want to talk to me again. But I needed to tell you this. Because I…” He couldn’t find the right words. “Fuck it,” he muttered his breath. “Because I love you. I fucking love you, even when I didn’t mean to.”
You froze in your spot.
JJ loved you.
And that look on his face told you he couldn’t be lying. He really loved you.
A new wave started to wet your ankles - guilt. You had yelled and screamed at him. You had used loving him as a grievance while he used loving you as a defense.
There was still validation behind your acts, but your heart doesn’t always care about that.
You took another step, forgetting to keep in mind the shakiness of your legs. The notes cluttered around your feet didn’t help either - you almost tripped. And you kept note of the way JJ flinched, as if going to catch you.
“Talk some sense to me…” You whispered, mustering a small sad smile as you felt your cheeks grow wet.
He chuckled weakly, but it was a weakness that was slowly getting stronger. “I’ll do more than talk some sense to you…”
You laugh was something caught between a laugh and a sob. “Just not in front of everyone.”
That comment brought attention to the crowd of teenagers that had found itself in the parking lot.
“Ignore us!” Di called out from beside Kie.
“Just kiss already!” Sarah called out from John B’s side, who was next to Kie. Pope was behind her.
You blushed a little and JJ set his hand on your chin, making you look at him. “I can’t say no to that bet, Red.”
You laughed and rolled your eyes. “The next time you bet something, I’m going to make sure you lose.”
“Well, I’ll just have to consider the win to be you.”
He leaned down and captured your lips before you could interject.
This kiss was explosive. There were no fireworks. It was comforting. Soft. Like a warm fire gracing your lips. It was a kiss you had missed.
Who would have thought the good girl, so caught up in her practical ways, could make the bad boy, who sleeps around and doesn’t listen to anyone, fall in love with her?

description: it’s been five years since the Miroh Heights murder cases came to a close — and five long, bittersweet years since you’d caught a glimpse of Han Jisung. Things in Miroh Heights have changed drastically since then — but when Felix sets you up on another blind date in an attempt to help you move on from the past, you realise that, once again, you’ve signed up for much more than you bargained for.

epilogue.
“See ya, Miss l/n!”
You turned to wave back at the little girl who had called your name, her round eyes visibly bright from the waiting room of your clinic. Seven years old, front teeth just beginning to come in. One of her hands clutched a half-unwrapped lollipop as her mother held onto the other.
The first time you had seen them, the child had been unwilling to speak — bullied relentlessly at school, her mother had informed you through a veil of desperate tears — but now, her laughter filled the warm air, traumas that had once been etched into a too-young face already beginning to heal and fade.
Evening sunshine warmed your cheeks the moment you stepped out of the building’s doors, a light breeze rustling the papers in your hand as you quickly tucked them into your bag. “Five years of graduate school hasn’t made you more organised,” Felix often teased you, and you would smack his shoulder in retaliation.
Five years hadn’t changed your friendship in the slightest, either—and you had to admit you were beyond grateful for that.
As always, the city around you was humming with life: evening rush hour, with people darting here and there, frantically flagging down taxis and catching their buses. Usually, on days like these, you should have been hopping into the first cab home and collapsing like a corpse as soon as you reached your apartment. But today, you remembered with a sigh, was not going to be one of those days.
“Hey, Doctor l/n!”
You whipped your head towards the voice, a smile spreading across your tired features as you saw who it belonged to. In a slightly jaded Mini Cooper—second hand, of course, but worked just like new — Yang Jeongin waved at you from the driver’s seat.
“I’m not a doctor, ‘innie,” you reminded him playfully as he unlocked the passenger door and let you climb in.
“Not a doctor yet,” he corrected you, grinning. “Besides, ‘child therapist’ doesn’t have as much of a ring to it.”
You rolled your eyes, laughing, and waved at another one of your patients as Jeongin started the engine. “You really didn’t have to offer to drive me, you know — the streets are a nightmare during this hour.”
“It’s not that far,” Jeongin protested, “Plus, I barely get to see you now, you’re so busy.” You didn’t have the heart to argue. The kid loved being behind the wheel so much, he made it seem like you were doing him a favour.
You watched Jeongin turn onto the main road, squeezing the car in between a van and a motorcyclist. He really had grown up over the last few years — his hair was darker now, remarkably sharp cheekbones overtaking his once-rounded cherub cheeks — but in some ways, nothing had changed at all. He still had that natural knack of brightening whatever room he stepped in — the Yang Jeongin effect, Hyunjin called it. And his heart was still too big for his own good: you remembered how he had adamantly refused to take the money Jisung kept offering him after the case had finally closed, and when Hyunjin had asked him why, Jeongin had simply replied, “After everything that’s happened, it doesn’t feel like he’s the one who owes me.”
On the other hand, Jeongin had been more than happy to take Prosecutor Kang’s compensation money instead, and had finally visited a car dealership with you and Hyunjin.
The moment he had seen the Mini-Cooper — a beat-up thing from the 90s that you were amazed was still running — the younger boy’s eyes had lit up. “It’s just...it looks like the one our family used to have, before...the incident,” he had explained sheepishly, making you and Hyunjin exchange a look. And so, after a fiery back-and-forth between you and the salesman—not to mention a few sleepless nights at the mechanic’s — the rest was history.
The light turned green, and you spotted a photograph wobbling on the dashboard — a laughing child you recognised immediately as Jeongin. Behind him, a woman with a familiar wide smile had her arms around a man with eyes resembling a fox’s, with none of the slyness. “How’s your dad these days?”
“Mostly stays at home taking care of my mum, but he swears he wouldn’t have it any other way.” Jeongin turned his head to you excitedly, as if a thought just hit him. “She got out of bed a couple days ago, you know? The first time ever since my dad left.”
Your mouth fell open in a surprised smile, and Jeongin continued, “He’s real excited he got to teach me how to drive, too. I think he feels like he missed out on a lot of things, like...walking me home from school. Teaching me how to ride a bike. Graduation.” He shrugged. His words might have sounded sad at first, but you could see the way the lines of Jeongin’s face were more relaxed now, at peace.
“Mind if I make a quick stop?” Jeongin asked abruptly, and you checked your watch before shaking your head lightly.
“I’m still about twenty minutes early. We’ve got plenty of time.”
He turned onto a familiar street, and you rolled down the window as Glow Cafe slowly came into view. It was just as busy as it had ever been — even the cars were stalling by the curb — but Hwang Hyunjin spotted you almost immediately, waving through the glass window. Quickly hopping out, Jeongin popped the trunk open, and you watched him haul two crates of coffee beans into the bustling cafe. The once-famed “delivery boy” of Miroh Heights only really did deliveries for Glow Cafe now, after Hyunjin had offered Jeongin a position as a barista until he graduated—and although he wasn’t the best with his hands (or his memory, for that matter), Hyunjin didn’t mind in the slightest.
“Him being here is more than enough for business. You should see the students flock in here every morning just to catch a glimpse of him.” The former barista snorted. “What’d I tell you? They’re eating him right up.”
They waved at Jeongin now as he jogged obliviously out of the cafe, Hyunjin’s laughs muted by the glass as he threw you a knowing wink. He had graduated himself, two years ago, officially inheriting the business after his grandmother had passed away. Glow Cafe had since come a long way, with Hyunjin always at the forefront of new design ideas and enthusiastically telling you about his plans to expand even more in the future.
“Get this: ‘CEO Hwang, the most eligible bachelor of Miroh Heights,’” Felix held up his hands as if picturing a giant headline, giving his signature wolf whistle as you burst into laughter and Hyunjin kicked the blond man in the shin. “Ow!”
“How did you even get into the press with those cheesy titles?” Hyunjin  groaned.
“Not just ‘get into the press’, ‘jinnie,” you reminded him, giggling, “he’s the head journalist now!”
It was true—with his impeccable wit and seamless way with words, it came to nobody’s surprise when Felix maneuvered his way to the top of the local press in a matter of years. The head of the press still loathed him with a biting passion— “I can feel her glares all the way from her office,” Felix retorted — and rumour had it that the two seemed to fire shots at each other all day long. The image of a powder-faced, middle-aged woman bickering with your notoriously insufferable best friend made you laugh, but you also knew deep down that Felix always took his job more seriously than he let on. His eloquent articles had gotten his name out across the city in no time,  and so you took comfort in knowing that — no matter how hard the head of the press bared her teeth—nobody could touch Lee Felix now.
Five years, you thought to yourself wistfully, eyes catching a familiar detective’s office as Jeongin drove past. What a trip down memory lane. You’d seldom come by this part of town since then, and seeing the familiar buildings sent a flood of memories and mixed feelings stirring in your chest.
The well-loved Detective Bang, much to the disappointment of adoring students and professors alike, had moved abroad to a bigger city—whether he had been taken by a new precinct, or a new big case, you couldn’t be sure. “Rumour has it he’s doing undercover work now,” Seungmin had mentioned to you once in passing, “We haven’t heard from him in a while, but he’s making a big name for himself out there, that’s for sure.”
The District Nine police station whizzed by you in a blur, and more of the prosecutor’s words rang through your head.
“Meanwhile, the chief of police keeps insisting he’s glad to be rid of him, but we all know he secretly misses Chan.” Seungmin had shaken his head, and you had smiled at the image of the stoic police captain—chief, now—grudgingly sulking over the loss of his best friend.
Jeongin made one last turn, and the narrow buildings opened up into the heart of Miroh Heights—the oldest part of town, where the roller rink, record shop, and the diner were. The sight of Mia’s Diner made you sink down instinctively in the passenger seat, and you couldn’t keep the raw dread out of your voice as you let out a long sigh.
Jeongin gave you sympathetic look. “For someone who’s going on a blind date, you don’t sound too happy.”
“That’s because I’m not, Jeongin. I don’t even know why Felix keeps insisting on these. The last time I agreed to one was—” you broke off before you could finish what you were saying, the unspoken words echoing in your mind. The last time I agreed to one was when I met Jisung.
That’s right—the last official blind date you had been on, you had met Han Jisung — and he had turned your entire world upside down. For years afterwards, you had told yourself that you wouldn’t take that day back for the entire world, but now...now, you weren’t so sure.
After all, how could you be sure of someone you hadn’t heard from in over five years?
The rehabilitation centre didn’t allow letters in or out— you had learned that the hard way after your first letters had been sent directly back to your doorstep. Usually, they had told you, if things went well, patients could start correspondence again after a year or so—but you had gotten absolutely nothing. Not a single word.
Five years—he should have been out by now. He could have been anywhere, doing anything—but he certainly hadn’t remembered to write or even call you.
Had he really forgotten about you?
“Five years is a long time, y/n,” Felix told you gently, after you had adamantly refused the blind date he kept insisting on. “People...change, and maybe he’s—moved on.”
Moved on.
You didn’t know how to tell Felix how much the thought of that hurt more than you were willing to admit, how this was the sole reason why you hadn’t been able to go on a single date for the past five years. You didn’t know how to tell him that Jisung hadn’t left your mind since the moment he had disappeared from your sight, five years ago, in the corridor of that courthouse.
“I’ll be waiting,” Jisung had said.  And yet he was nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Felix wasn’t taking no for an answer.
“You’re in your mid-twenties now, y/n. Loosen up a little, yeah? You’re allowed to go on dates, for goodness’ sake.”
“I’m hopeless, ‘lix. I’m pretty sure the stray dog on the street has a more interesting love life than me.”
“Maybe,” Felix mused, “I think I saw it running around with a litter of puppies the other da—ow!”
“You okay? You look kind of sick,” Jeongin remarked, pulling you out of your thoughts. “Got everything you need?”
You resisted the urge to laugh. If only Jeongin knew how you had prepared for this date—by mapping out all the ways you were going to end it as quickly as possible. Faking food poisoning? Check. Arrange a time for a friend to call you and pretend an emergency came up? Check— although Hyunjin had had a strange glint in his eyes when he had agreed to it. Worst comes to worst? Pepper spray, check. You let out a slow exhale. “Sure. All set.”
You thanked Jeongin with a hug and hopped out of the car. Just as you began walking towards the diner, you heard him call out behind you.
“Oh, yeah, Felix told me pass on a message — from him to you.” You turned back, and Jeongin gave a boyish grin that was half apologetic, half laughing. “‘Go get ‘em, tiger!’”
You gave an exasperated cry and yanked open the diner door.
━━━━━━━━
You were beginning to wonder if you’d been stood up.
Mia’s Diner was usually busy, bustling with students and townspeople alike, and tonight it truly was: booths packed with couples both old and new, laughter and the smell of food wafting through the warm air as friends and families celebrated the start of summer. The jukebox was on and playing an old disco song you liked but didn’t know the name of, the checkered floor tiles clicking with the sounds of brisk waitresses’ heels and dancing feet.
You didn’t know why Felix had insisted on coming here, of all places, what with the mixed emotions and memories you had tied to it, but you had to admit that the jovial atmosphere of Mia’s Diner on a Friday night never really disappointed. You found yourself relaxing slightly—just slightly, bobbing your head lightly to the music.
“Mia’s Diner?” You repeated incredulously. “Seriously, Felix, do you only know one date location? For the so-called ‘Matchmaker of Miroh Heights’, you’re sure lacking in the variety department.”
“Easy, tiger. Just trust me on this one, okay? You’re gonna owe me one.”
“I’m not—” you began indignantly, but Felix continued.
“Plus, the poor guy in question hasn’t been on a date in years, either. You both need this.”
“Years? Are you setting me up with a hermit?”
“Oh, yeah. A big-time loser, seriously— but don’t tell him I said that. Just — indulge him a bit, okay, y/n? I promise you won’t regret it.”
And so, for the second time, Felix’s schemes and pleading puppy eyes had gotten you here—sitting at an empty booth, waiting for a blind date. He hadn’t even bothered to show you a picture of the man in question. You couldn’t help the smile from slowly slipping from your face as each minute passed, and you nibbled your lip anxiously.
Your date was thirty minutes late.
You peered out the window, at the lights of the town glowing a faint neon  against the clear evening skies. Each time a car filled in a parking space, you sat up, craning your neck to see if it was him—before slumping back down in disappointment. Five years, you thought to yourself glumly. Five years, and you still had no luck with dates. Maybe you just had no luck with love, you thought dryly. You imagined Felix laughing later when you told him about it and sighed, a twinge of worry replacing the dread in your gut.
Had something gone wrong?
After turning the waitress away for the eighth time, you fished out your phone from your pocket, tapping on the foreign number Felix had given you. Zero new messages, zero missed calls. At least I can tell Felix I tried, you thought glumly. Maybe I should just call Jeongin again, and ask him to pick me up. And then you could drop by Glow Cafe for a bit, before trudging back to your apartment like a fallen soldier.
Just as you were punching in Jeongin’s name, feeling a sense of guilty relief wash over you, you vaguely registered the diner door swinging open beneath the lively music, and a pair of footsteps trying to shuffle past the dancing couples.
For a split second, you thought you saw a pair of tattered black Converse—laces untied, soles worn—but the mirage disappeared, and was replaced by a pair of dress shoes that eventually came to a stop at your booth. You sighed, fighting back the tears that had suddenly threatened to well in your eyes. Shit. This is not the time to be thinking about him. Why were you still thinking about him? And why on earth had you agreed to this?
You lifted your gaze, trying to muster up a smile, hoping your disappointment didn’t show on your face—
And immediately froze.
“Hello.”
Standing before you, looking almost like an apparition — a golden silhouette against the backdrop of the dim diner — was Han Jisung.
You had to blink several times to realise you weren’t hallucinating again. He looked...different, and yet in some ways, he looked entirely the same: his hair was shorter, but tousled as it had always been, cheeks flushed and breathless as if—as if he’d been running through a storm.
You felt your body moving before any intelligible thoughts could form in your head, pulling you forwards like a magnet until you were standing face-to-face, your shaky eyes darting across his features, not daring to believe what you were seeing.
All of a sudden, the glint in Hyunjin and Jeongin’s eyes made sense, Felix’s words replaying in your head as overwhelmed tears began welling in your eyes without warning.
“The poor guy in question hasn’t been on a date in years, either.”
“A big-time loser, seriously — but don’t tell him I said that. Just — indulge him a bit, okay, y/n? I promise you won’t regret it.”
“Y-you—are such a dork,” you stammered out, one hand weakly hitting Jisung’s chest as you felt the tears finally spill down your face. “Han Jisung, you are such a d—”
Your words were cut off when Jisung pulled you into his arms, his head falling to rest in the crook of your neck. Your shoulders shook with muffled sobs as you buried your face in his chest, memorising everything about this feeling, not wanting to take a single second for granted, memorising everything about him. Jisung no longer carried with him that scent of gasoline and fire — instead, he smelled faintly of lemongrass, and a hint of warm, fresh laundry.
“I missed you,” you finally whispered hoarsely, “I just—missed you, so much.”
He chuckled in your ear, the low, familiar hum stirring faint, faraway memories in your head, and you gripped onto his shirt harder, as if he would disappear completely if you didn’t hold on tight enough.
Jisung had found you in the crowded diner before you had seen him — just like the first time he had met you. And just like the first time, he had felt his breath hitch in his throat, hands hesitating on the door, wondering if he should turn back instead. He had watched you bob your head gently to the music, a small, tentative smile on your face.
You looked good — no, amazing. Different, and yet entirely the same. Kind, worried eyes catching him completely off guard, like the flash of a camera.
Just as bright.
Just as brilliant.
The truth was, there hadn’t been a single day where he hadn’t thought of you — of your voice, your touch, your laugh. Jisung had asked Felix for help the moment he had gotten released, but what he hadn’t forseen was your reaction.
“She won’t go on a blind date, mate,” Felix had informed him exasperatedly, “Took weeks of convincing. Good news, though — she finally caved. You sneaky, hopeless romantic bastard.”
She might have forgotten me, Jisung had thought. And even if you hadn’t, you might not even welcome the sight of him—after all, he hadn’t been in touch since he had left, all those years ago. But in the end, the inexplicable pull in his chest had grown unbearable, and he found himself walking towards you, wading through the crowd, feeling the ache in his heart softening with each step he took. All the way back to you.
You pulled away slowly, vision blurry as Jisung lifted a hand to cup your face, never taking eyes off yours. He had grown in the time you had been apart—he was taller, his once-lean frame stronger—and, most of all, there was a light in his eyes that hadn’t been there before.
“Hey, pretty girl,” he murmured softly, and you laughed in disbelief, “I think you’re my blind date.”
“How—w-why—”
“I told you I wanted to do this all over again, didn’t I? And I promised that I would try to do it right this time.” Jisung smiled apologetically, wiping your tear stained cheeks with his thumb. “I’m sorry it took so long.”
You shook your head, eyes widening when you saw what he had been carefully clutching in his other hand: a small bouquet of sunflowers, their golden yellow petals as tousled as Jisung’s own blond locks.
“Apparently they symbolise new beginnings,” Jisung said, pulling a stray petal from your hair and chuckling, “Keeping promises. Eternal happiness. That kind of thing.”
“Why didn’t you write?” You whispered, as Jisung tucked the bouquet into your hands.
“I wanted to...to heal. In every sense of the word. I didn’t want to show you, until I...knew I was really better. Believe me, I wanted to.” Jisung’s voice dropped to a whisper, as if he were fighting back tears. “I wanted to, so, so badly.”
You shook your head, mumbling something about how much of a stubborn idiot he was, and Jisung’s laugh made a hesitant smile tug at your lips. As if sensing the lightening atmosphere, the waitress had promptly appeared behind Jisung and meekly cleared her throat, setting down the menu. Jisung turned back to look at you, his grin growing playful.
“I hope you’re hungry?”
The diner seemed to come back to you all at once in a flood of senses, the music and murmur of restaurant goers sending a pleasant hum through your veins as you and Jisung sat down. The night went by in a warm blur, Jisung telling you about his life at the institute, the unlikely friends he had made, the dreams he hadn’t realised he had.
“I’m going to go back to school,” he admitted, one hand rubbing the back of his neck shyly. “I’ll be a bit behind, but...I want to study something I actually like this time.”
You had told him about how you had been working in a child therapy ward ever since you had graduated, about all the children you had met and loved and cared for. As you talked about them, you saw a wistful look in Jisung’s eyes, and a thought crossed your mind. “Have you heard anything from—from Minho?”
He gave a small smile, but shook his head. “Rarely. It hasn’t been long since he was released, but he said he was planning on going abroad. Doing some travelling. I think...he’ll reach out when he’s ready.” He then added, as an afterthought, “And if he doesn’t, I wouldn’t blame him.”
The sad simplicity of Jisung’s words stirred a strange feeling you couldn’t quite place in your chest, and your mind flashed back to the cold-eyed coroner and his stiff smiles; then, to the raw pain that had cracked through his strained features the last time you had caught a glimpse of him. Maybe you would meet again one day, or maybe that truly would be the last you ever heard of him.
Healing of the mind, you knew, was a strange process—one that always took much longer than you would expect. There were always scars that reopened along the way, old hidden wounds that surfaced right when you least expected them. There would always be answers you might never find, you mused sadly, closure you might never get.
But sometimes, you thought as you listened to Jisung talk, memorizing the feeling of his fingers interlaced with yours, sometimes we can only hope to hold onto what we already have.
The end of the night drew closer, and when Jisung and you had stepped outside the diner, the city was swimming in the dark ochre of the setting sun. Eventually, the two of you ended up back in the wide garden behind the hospital, your laughs and giddy conversation slowly hushing into softer murmurs. In the distance, the rush of cars on the main road grew sparser, the windows of the buildings around you flickering to life one by one like young stars. Here, though, as you rested your head on Jisung’s shoulder beneath a willow tree, the world seemed to stand still, and all was quiet.
You heard Jisung yelp suddenly and looked down to see a familiar dog pattering around your feet—a stray, with scraggly fur like an overgrown teddy bear that had been through the wash one too many times. It immediately pounced onto Jisung, beginning to lick your boyfriend’s face like no tomorrow.
“Oof! Hey there, old buddy.”
You laughed, scooping the dog off—only after it had gotten a few slobbery licks in—and shivered slightly as a cool night wind swept past you. Noticing, Jisung shrugged off his jacket, draping it over your shoulders as you raised a teasing eyebrow at the cliche move.
“It looks good on you,” Jisung insisted, and you laughed incredulously.
“Your jacket?” You asked, ruffling the dog’s ears as it curled up at your feet.
At that, Jisung looked back up at you—seeing the faint outline of your smile in the dark, your eyes sparkling as you looked back at him expectantly, obliviously—and in that moment, Jisung wondered what he had ever done to deserve someone as perfect as you.
After a beat, he replied, “Happiness. Happy looks good on you, love.”
Your mouth parted in surprise—both at his words, and at the unexpected name—and Jisung took the chance to lean in and kiss you, pressing his soft lips to yours. Gently, at first — carefully, but as you began to kiss him back, you felt Jisung slowly relax. You kissed him the way you had wanted to for so long, feeling the years of distance, of heartache, of endless waiting finally unravel beneath your lips. His hands reached up to gingerly cup your face, pulling you closer into him as if he never intended to let go.
Happy looks good on you, too, Han Jisung, you wanted to say once you pulled away, forehead still lightly pressed to his. And you deserve it, more than anything. You watched Jisung’s features come back into focus beneath the dim moonlight. His gaze was fixed on yours, filled with nothing but pure adoration, and you felt a sudden surge of warmth coursing through your chest.
I love you, you wanted to tell him, more than you could ever know — but something in the warm yet playful look in Jisung’s eyes told you that he was already thinking the exact same thing.
So you just smiled, and leaned in to kiss him again.

Open My Eyes
Tumblr media
Apocalyptic AU.
Dean gets increasingly jealous of your bond with Gadreel and things come to a head after a misunderstanding on a run
Dean had known you for years. Long before the dead started to rise and the world as it was previously known came crashing down. He knew you inside and out, you were one of his best friends. Maybe that was why it was bothering him so deeply to see you get closer with someone who was fairly new to your group. Gadreel had come in with the Banes twins. They’d gone through Bobby’s usual line of questions without missing a beat and had fit in smoothly enough with everyone else. That had been nearly six months ago which was a lifetime nowadays.
He tried to get you out of his head as he walked across the field that stretched between the outer fence and inner fence of the compound all of you now called home. It’d started life as a high school but with some hard work and a lot of blood, sweat and tears it was now a suitable place to survive the new world. Unfortunately before he could reach the sanctuary of the building where Bobby, Sam and Jody were waiting to talk about the new run that needed to happen he heard the all too familiar sound of your laugh.
He turned and found a small smile working its way onto his face when he saw you walking with Alicia and Max. You had your arm around Alicia’s shoulder and was laughing at something Max had said. He started to call your name but before he could he heard it called from a different direction and felt his mood immediately sour when you pulled your arm from Alicia to greet Gadreel as he made it to the three of you. He watched you pull the other man down to whisper something in his ear and felt anger flick at his mind. Especially when Gadreel laughed then whispered something back to you. Dean spun on his heel, he didn’t need to see any more.
------
The door to the meeting room slammed open but luckily for the three people sitting around the table it took a lot more than that to rattle their nerves. Bobby barely glanced up from the map “Nice of you to join us Dean now how about leaving the damn door on the hinges?”
Sam watched his brother drag a chair out and flop down into it. He wanted to ask what was wrong but knew that they needed to get this meeting through and that Dean was prone to shut down if asked directly what was wrong. He always did better with letting it slip through cursing whatever had soured his mood.
“From what we can figure there’s a couple veterinarian clinics along the route as well and considering the fact that people medicine isn’t actually any different than animal medicine they may have supplies there and it wouldn’t hurt to check” Jody spoke tapping a few different places on the map. Bobby nodded then cut his eyes at Dean “You and Sam up to taking a team and checking it out? We need the supplies to winterize this place once and for all, not to mention having extra medical supplies on hand wouldn’t hurt”
“Yeah we can handle it Bobby” Dean promised although it was apparent his mind was still not focused on the meeting. “All in all it’ll probably take about a week or so considering the ground you’ll have to cover so I’d pick a good team. Take Y/N with you too she hangs out with Alex and Kaia enough she can spot anything that has medicinal usage from a mile away” Jody added with a wink to Bobby before pushing away from the table to head out. She’d be gathering supplies for whatever team was picked and wanted to get it together.
Bobby watched her leave then turned back to his surrogate sons. “So I was thinking Y/N, Alicia, Max, Gadreel and Charlie would be a decent team to take. Ain’t like any of those girls can’t handle their own in a fight. Max can get through any tight spot and Gadreel is strong as a horse” Dean scoffed at that which earned him a look from Bobby “You got an issue with any of that son?”
Dean shook his head “Nope” then pushed his chair back “I’m going to gather my gear, you two can make sure everyone is up to the run” with that he walked out leaving Bobby to throw a questioning look at Sam who simply shrugged “I don’t really know what that’s about either” “Make sure he keeps a clear head. There’s a lot of dangers out there and not just the biters got it?” Sam nodded “Yes sir”
------
You were helping Jody to gather supplies for the upcoming run after she’d come out of the meeting with Bobby, Dean and Sam. “Do you know anything that could be bothering Dean?” She asked, holding out a pack of dried meat. You took it and shook your head “Not that I know of but I could always just ask him?”
She shrugged “No he’ll tell you or Sam if whatever it is gets to bothering him too much” You would hope so anyways. You always went to Dean if anything was bothering you. He’d offer advice if that’s what you were after or simply offer comfort or a place to vent. “I’m gonna grab my jacket and go bag from my room then I’ll meet everyone by the front gate” she nodded to let you know she’d heard you so you turned to head towards the living quarters.
The halls that had been transformed to be mini dorm rooms were actually quite comfortable considering. You considered yourself lucky that you’d been close with a lot of your group before that fateful day that a widespread virus was alerted in the news. You could still remember Sam’s phone call to you “Pack just what you need. Dean will be pulling up at your place any time”
You’d hastily thrown clothes and the contents of your medicine cabinet in a bag. Before you were through grabbing what you deemed necessary you heard a heavy knock on your door followed by Dean’s voice “Come on sweetheart! We gotta go!” When you opened the door your eyes widened when Dean shoved a gun into your hand. “Dean, what’s going on?” you asked and he took a deep breath “Long story short? The dead are rising. True, blue zombies. We gotta go cause shit is hitting the fan fast”
You gripped the gun noticing the one in his own hand and nodded “Lead the way Winchester. You know I trust you”
------
You shook yourself out of thoughts of the past. You needed to focus on this run completely. You grabbed your go bag from the floor checking what ammo you had and slipping a machete at your side. You glanced at your bat leaned next to the bed but decided against it. It was better the few times you’d go out solo or with just one other person. From what Jody had said there was a full team going after the winterizing supplies.
You slipped your jacket on then slid the strap of your bag across your chest. You walked back towards the doors that led outside. The electricity that the compound ran off of came from a mixture of solar panels and generators. The good part? Bobby knew enough to be able to brew enough corn liquor that the generators had fuel for years.
The only downside was that meant the few vehicles you had could only be used in moderation. Short runs horses were used for but considering this one would take about a week and would be gathering supplies for all the black panel van that was used for such runs was parked by the front gate awaiting those going.
You walked towards the gate and smiled when you spotted Dean standing with Bobby and Sam at the front of the van. They were clearly going over the mapped out areas one more time but you knew neither of them would mind you inserting yourself into the conversation. Since Dean’s back was to you and Sam noticed you first so you raised one finger to your lips. He quickly turned his attention back to the conversation so you wouldn’t be noticed.
You quietly took a few steps forward and slid your arms around Dean’s waist and leaned your head on his shoulder even if that meant you had to stand on your tip toes and still barely reach “So where are we going?” you could see the corners of his mouth tick up and knew he was fighting a smile “We’re going to a few different places sweetheart. You wanna hang off me like a spider monkey or you want to actually look at the map?” you feigned a pout “Why can’t I hang off you like a spider monkey and look at the map?” he rolled his eyes with a laugh “Get down”
You pulled your head down from his shoulder and moved your arms from around his waist to step slightly in front of him and look at the map Bobby had laid across the hood. Sam went over the stops with you, highlighting the couple where you’d be taking the lead since you knew more about what was needed for medicinal purposes. “Sounds good to me. Who’s the rest of the crew?” you could’ve sworn you saw a look be passed among the three of them before Bobby said “Alicia, Charlie, Max and Gadreel” you nodded approvingly at the choices “All good picks”
You heard a sharp whistle and turned to see Charlie walking towards the four of you trailed by the rest of the crew. “What’s up bitches? We ready to ride?” “Of course dear” You replied meeting her halfway.
------
Dean watched as you greeted the rest of the crew going on the run. Charlie was like a sister to him, Alicia and Max were cool but spending the next week in close quarters with you and Gadreel? Yeah he may look for some biters just to have an excuse to kill something.
“Alright! Everyone load up!” he barked out and you cut your eyes up at him “Depends, can I have shotgun for the first few miles at least?” He barely glanced at Gadreel before saying “Of course sweetheart” . You shot him a wink then walked around to the passenger side of the van along with everyone else who was climbing into the back.
Sam didn’t miss the look Dean threw at Gadreel or the way his brother had bristled anytime over the last few weeks when he’d see you with the other man. Was that what the attitude was about before the meeting? Was Dean jealous? He chose not to say anything for now and instead simply walked around to sit next to Gadreel on the middle seat since Charlie had taken up the backseat along with the twins.
------
Your destination was two states over. It was a contraction warehouse that had fallen early. Bobby kept an eye on the amount of biters in it versus the prospects of anyone actually getting inside.
Considering the zombies had lightened up in that area and everything needed to finish winterizing the compound and green houses could be found there it was worth the risk to go. That way you'd have running water and fresh food no matter how severe the coming winter got.
You were curled up with your feet under you watching the road whip by as Dean drove. You had a shoebox full of cassette tapes in your lap looking over them to see if any peaked your interest. You plucked one out of the box and stuck it into the player simply to see Dean's reaction when it started playing.
When the first few notes of It's My Life started playing he cut his eyes at you "Bon Jovi really?" You grinned "Hey Bon Jovi rocks...on occasion" then started singing along and couldn't help but laugh when Sam, Charlie and Max joined in.
No matter the music or the company Dean couldn't fight the smile that worked its way onto his face. You had shifted to have your legs out in front of you and were now drumming on the dash along with the music and had everyone in the van either singing or laughing along. Why had he never realized how amazing you were before? Why had it literally taken an apocalypse to open his eyes?
He watched you turn in your seat and bump Gadreel's leg as You Give Love a Bad Name started and felt that same flicker of anger. Maybe he'd waited too long to see what had been in front of him for years, maybe Gadreel had realized it a lot sooner.
Tumblr media
The first day on the road was pretty uneventful. There were no stops to be made marked on the map so it was filled with just driving besides stopping for everyone to find a tree.
Considering the route was figured to be about three days there and three back (giving plenty of leadway for any issues that might arise) you asked Dean once the sun started going down if he was ready to pull over somewhere for the night or if he wanted you or Sam to take over driving.
He glanced in the mirror at Sam "What do you say Sammy? Wanna take the wheel for a while?" "Sure" Sam agreed so Dean stopped dead in the center of the road..not like there was a lot of traffic.
"Well I'm gonna climb in the back and get a little sleep" you announced after realizing Charlie, Max and Alicia were all knocked out. "Yeah Gadreel you wanna hop up here man? I'm pretty wiped too" Dean suggested and Gadreel replied "Sure. I already caught my few hours"
Gadreel held the side door open so you slid under his arm with a smile "Thanks '' he smiled in return. When Dean walked around he grabbed the door "I got it. Thanks" Gadreel simply nodded and climbed into the passenger seat.
You were already slid in next to the window when Dean climbed in next to you. You waited until Sam had started driving to turn so you could curl up next to Dean. He looked down at you with a raised eyebrow "What are you doing?" You grinned "Sleeping. Now hush and be a good pillow" instead of pulling away like you half expected he raised his arm slightly to pull you closer to him "I'll be a good pillow if you be a good pillow" you smiled when you felt him lean his head over on you and whispered "Deal"
Tumblr media
"Look alive. This is the first of two vet clinics we gotta hit on this trip" Dean spoke as he pulled the van to a stop and glanced around. "Seven people so I'm thinking three teams of two and leave one person behind the wheel in case we need a fast exit?" You suggested and he winked at you "Just what I was thinking"
You slid your gun into the holster on your thigh but grabbed the machete from your floorboard as first line of defense. Guns were loud and the last thing you wanted was a herd of amped up zombies descending on the group before you could even go through the clinic. You turned and looked at everyone then nodded to yourself “Ok so Charlie you up for setting this one out?” She shrugged “Sure but I get to help clear the next one”
You shot her a smile then said “Ok Max and Alicia, Dean and Sam then Gadreel you’re with me..everyone good with that?” Everyone nodded but Dean who just walked to the back of the van to grab the canvas bags out without so much as a look in your direction. You raised an eyebrow to Sam who shrugged so you followed behind Dean keeping an eye out to make sure all of the commotion hadn’t attracted any undue attention.
You stood slightly behind him hearing him mumble to himself before he turned around and realized you were standing there “Son of a bitch Y/N. Make some noise sweetheart, the point is to not blend in with the dead” you grinned playfully “Is that your way of asking me to bite you?” he rolled his eyes but you could see just the barest hint of a smirk trying to work its way onto his face “Just be careful in there. Sure you trust him to have your back?”
You cut your eyes over to your group where they were all watching the woods line that bordered the back parking lot of the clinic “Yeah, I’ll be ok. Not gonna lie I don’t think I’ll ever trust anyone to have my back the way I trust you or well Sam but Gadreel has proved he’s good in a tight spot”
He nodded and for a second you thought he was going to say something else but he simply held out one of the bags “Remember get in, get out” you took the bag with a small smile “Aye aye” then walked back over to the group.
Dean watched you walk over to Gadreel. You said you’d never trust anyone the way you trusted him..that meant a lot didn’t it? He shook his head then walked over himself to pass Max then Sam a bag before nodding at Charlie “We’ll be out in five”
------
The clinic had three entrances. One to the side of the building, one to the back and one to the front. You and Gadreel took the back entrance, the twins took the side leaving the front to Sam and Dean.
You touched the handle of the door then looked at Gadreel “You want me to pull and you be ready or vice versa?” “Ladies choice” he replied with a laugh. You nodded then motioned to the door “In that case you pull and I’ll be ready”
He got into position but waited until you gave him a nod to open the door. You hoisted your machete but no noise came. You leaned inside and stomped your foot a few times “Hello? Anyone home?” You cut your eyes at him and he shrugged. “Maybe no one ended up here?” “We can only hope” you replied before walking further inside.
You could hear the rest of your crew checking but it appeared the clinic was well and truly empty. You picked a room and waved to Gadreel to follow you. The moment you stepped into the room you pulled your flashlight out of the pocket of your jacket and saw that from the looks of it you’d picked the operating room.
You motioned to the wall of shelves in front of you “I hate to ask but do you think you can give me a lift to the top one so I can see what’s up there?” He laughed lightly and you could feel the short jokes coming but instead he simply pointed to the machete in your hand “Lay that down so I don’t accidentally get stabbed and I’d be glad to” you laid the machete down on the silver table that was in the middle of the room then turned back to Gadreel “Better?” he nodded “Turn around so I can give you a boost then I’ll keep one hand on your back to steady you” you turned towards the shelves like he said and felt his hands around your waist a second before he lifted you into the air.
You climbed onto the highest shelf that normally would take a step ladder to reach then smiled over your shoulder at him “Thank you.Now get ready so if I find something good”
------
Dean and Sam had cleared three different cabinets. They’d found a good amount of first aid supplies ranging from suture kits to wound cleansers. “I’m gonna check on Alicia and Max” Sam said so Dean replied “I’ll check on Y/N and Gadreel”
Sam headed towards the back of the clinic where the twins were so Dean headed towards the operating room where you and Gadreel had gone into. He could hear you laughing right before he opened the door to see Gadreel putting you back down on your feet, his hands were still on your hips and you were smiling up at him with your hands against his chest.
Dean felt that same flicker of anger but this time it was mixed with more emotions than just that. He almost felt sick with just how angry he felt, not to mention the hurt. You weren’t even kissing Gadreel but he felt as if he’d walked in on a lot more intimate moment than he had. Luckily he was able to reel it in and sounded emotionless when he waved a hand towards the two of you “Didn’t know I was interrupting something. Times up, we gotta go so whatever you two are doing, stick a damn pin in it or something” then turned and walked out without saying a word.
------
Gadreel watched Dean walk out then looked back at you “What was that about? I was just helping you down..he doesn’t think we..?” you weren’t sure what to say. To anyone else Dean would’ve sounded almost bored but you knew him well enough to know when he was blocking emotions. You weren’t sure what was going on but when Dean sounded emotionless were the times that his mind was being his worst enemy “I have no clue honestly Gadreel. Don’t worry about it though, I’ll handle it” “I’d never disrespect you or any woman for that matter. I mean well don’t get me wrong you’re a beautiful woman but I thought..” he trailed off and looked again at the door when Dean had disappeared out of then shook his head “Just know if I did anything wrong I apologize” “You didn’t Gadreel. Don’t worry Dean just gets a little antsy on runs” you explained with a strained smile.
By the time you and Gadreel made it to the parking lot everyone had loaded their bags and only Sam stood outside the van. He took the bag from Gadreel then glanced at you, You followed him to the back of the van and watched as he added your bag to the bunch. After he shut the door he turned around and leaned close to you. “What happened in there?” You groaned slightly “He didn’t make a scene did he?” he shook his head “No but I know him like you know him. Now what happened?” You took a breath running your hand down your face “I think he got the wrong idea when he saw Gadreel with his hands on me. He was helping me down off a tall shelf that was it Sam I swear! You know me I wouldn’t do anything on a run and honestly? Yeah Gadreel is a good looking guy I have eyes but that doesn’t mean I’d screw him on a run for fuck’s sake we both have sleeping quarters back at the compound..I don’t know why Dean acted like that! Nice to know one of my closest friends thinks so highly of me that he thinks I’d risk anyone's life to fool around on a run”
You were starting to move past confused onto anger the more you spoke and Sam knew that so he reached out and squeezed your shoulder “Breathe, ride in the backseat with Charlie and Alicia. I’m gonna ride up front with him and Max is riding in the middle seat. I’ll try to talk to him ok?” you nodded, not trusting your voice at the moment because you were highly conflicted.
Finally you managed “Ok” then walked back around the van to climb into the backseat with Alicia and Charlie. Charlie raised an eyebrow at you not riding upfront with Dean but welcomed you into the conversation she and Alicia were having.
Tumblr media
The third day on the road meant clearing the second vet clinic. You were going through a list of top things to look for with Alicia. All of you had stopped a few miles from the clinic to clear the road of an overturned tree. You and her were keeping an eye out for any dead that may be attracted to the noises. So far you both had killed one a piece.
“All clear ladies!” Charlie called out so you both headed back to the van. You wanted nothing more than to ask Dean why he’d acted like he had but refused to start an argument in the middle of a run. You’d push it down until all of you got safely back to the compound then you’d confront him about it.
You climbed into the backseat silently sliding between Alicia and Max. You didn’t really want to spare a word for anyone but since Bobby had been clear the clinics were more your wheelhouse everyone was looking at you as to what to grab for human use and what could be left behind.
You finally spoke as Dean was pulling into the overgrown parking lot of the clinic “I’ve went over the list with Alicia and Sam so they both know what to look for” Dean knew you were talking to him in particular and barely cut his eyes at you in the mirror before saying “I’m staying behind the wheel this time. Charlie can go in with Sam” you nodded more to yourself than in response to him. Why was he being so damn infuriating? If he’d just talk to you then...well what exactly would you say?
You climbed out and once your feet hit the dirt you turned to Gadreel “Ready?” he nodded so you looked around to everyone for their acknowledgement that they were all set.You shot one final look at Dean before falling Gadreel across the lot.
------
“Son of a bitch that damn thing came out of nowhere” you cursed kicking the now permanently dead zombie at your feet. Gadreel pulled a bandana from his pocket and held it out “You’ve got some blood smeared across your cheek” you wiped at it and gave him a small albeit appreciative smile “Thanks and again I’m sorry about how Dean acted” he shrugged “It’s ok really. It’s understandable”
You laughed harshly “Accusing us of screwing around literally on a run? That’s understandable? You’re a little too zen” he looked at you for a moment as if there was a second meaning to what he’d said but if there was you couldn’t quite grasp it. He shook his head after a moment then held a hand out “I’ll carry the bag”
------
Dean was watching the door of the clinic closely. Max and Alicia were the first duo out followed by Sam and Charlie. You and Gadreel bought up the rear.
He tried to bite his tongue but when you started to climb in considering you were the first one in the van he couldn’t stop the words before they came out “You and Gadreel didn’t get into anymore tight spots did you?” He regretted the words the moment they left his mouth but it was too late to pull them back then. He could see the shock in your eyes when you froze halfway into the back seat and slowly turned to look at him the shock quickly turning to anger “Believe me Dean if I was to fuck Gadreel I’d wait until I had longer than a few minutes to try him out” before either of you could say anything else Sam opened the front door and Charlie stepped up to climb in behind you.
Dean was still staring at you in the mirror when he heard Alicia ask if you were ok since you were balling up what looked like a bandana in your hands. “Yeah just took out a biter so Gadreel gave it to me to clean the blood off”
------
You purposely turned to stare out the window and cursed the moment you’d agreed to come on this run. You wouldn’t cry. Hell you couldn’t afford the luxury of hurt feelings these days but knowing that didn’t exactly take the sting out of Dean’s words. You looked down at your hands as you tied Gadreel’s bandana into a loose knot then untied it and repeated the process. You just had to get this run over then you could distance yourself from Dean. You’d said the first thing that had came to mind that would hopefully hurt him the same way his words had hurt you..what had exactly become of yours and Dean’s friendship over the last few months?
Tumblr media
Day four meant the last leg of the run before the turn around to head home to the compound. You hadn’t spoken a word to Dean and hadn’t really spoken to anyone without them saying something to you first. Dean hated that his jealousy because whether he liked it not he was jealous he hated that he’d let it put a wedge between you and him,
He had no idea what he could do to even slightly make it up to you. He spotted the turn off for the construction warehouse so he cleared his throat “Charlie you wanna be a wheelman again?” she glanced up from her spot next to you and nodded “Sure!” “Then we’ll do two teams of three that good with everyone?” he was hoping you’d say something but instead of what he wanted you to say you looked up “I’ll be on the team with Alicia and Max. I have the list you said we needed. I’ll tear it in half and hand Gadreel the other half. You, him and Sam can find that stuff”
Dean didn’t attempt to argue with you and only nodded instead “Sounds like a plan” Sam cut his eyes at his brother not really being used to him being ok with someone else calling the shots but it was you after all. “You good?” he asked quietly and Dean replied “Yeah” then pulled into the parking lot of the construction warehouse.
------
You were out of the van the moment it stopped rolling. There were two zombies shambling around the lot and you took them out in tandem. You turned to look at everyone as they climbed out of the van and managed to crack a smile when Charlie teased “My oh my someone woke up on the wrong side of the apocalypse” you shrugged “Hey beats any other stress release there was pre-z”
A small chorus of laughter went through everyone and you were glad for that. You didn’t want whatever was happening between you and Dean to affect everyone else. You winked at Alicia “Grab your brother and lets go shopping” she laughed and grabbed Max by the arm then motioned to you “Lead the way”
------
Sam could practically feel the tension in the air between Dean and Gadreel. He had thought for a while Dean’s feelings for you went deeper than friendship but it hadn’t been as blaringly apparent until Gadreel came into the picture. He was a good guy, he got along well with everyone in the compound. He respected that the women helped keep everything going and always managed to pull a smile to your face over some small joke. Dean was threatened by him because up to this point there hadn’t been any other guy that garnered any of your attention away from Dean not one anyone that you would be a possible match with.
The three of them were working in silence quickly gathering what was on their half of the list. Sam was personally just hoping no fight broke out that he’d had to break up. He noticed that Dean kept cutting his eyes at Gadreel and said a prayer under his breath that just for once Dean would let it go.
He had no such luck because although Dean didn’t say anything Gadreel cleared his throat “Dean” Dean raised his eyebrows in response to the other man “Yeah?” “Just so you know nothing happened between me and Y/N. She’s a beautiful, amazing woman but...”
Dean cut Gadreel off before he could finish speaking with a shake of his head “I was in the wrong man...to snap at either of you. You’re both grown, what you do is your business and I trust the fact that neither of you would do anything on a run to risk your lives or anyone else's”
Sam watched the both of them for a moment trying to decipher if they were actually trying to get along or mutually waving the white flag for your benefit but the moment was broken by Alicia’s scream of your name. No words had to be passed amongst the three men; they all started running towards the sound.
------
You were following behind Alicia and Max trying to keep an eye out for the last couple items on your half of the list. You glanced up at a shelf that ran nearly up to the high ceiling of the warehouse and decided to check it out. Max stopped when he saw you looking and offered “Want a hand getting up there?” you shook your head with a slight smirk “Naw I think I can handle it but stay close just in case”
You made it to the halfway point and had even grabbed a few things you knew were needed when you went to step on a board and felt it crack under you. One minute you were standing the next you felt yourself falling and only barely managed to hold onto the backpack you had been storing supplies in.
You hit hard behind the shelf and heard a low growl. You pushed yourself to sit up and saw three biters shuffling towards you “Son of a bitch” you groaned trying to get to your feet. You went to push yourself up but felt a gush of blood from your left arm so you used your right to get to your feet just barely avoiding the chomping teeth of the zombie that was bearing down on you. You could hear Alicia scream your name but couldn’t spare a response. You had to show attention to the threat in front of you. You slammed your machete into the skull of the first one in front of you and cursed again when you realized that while you’d killed it your blade was stuck. You reached for the knife at your side knowing it was your only chance. You kicked the second one square in the stomach knocking it back long enough you could stab the last one in the eye.
You pulled your knife free and felt the one you’d kicked grab your jacket. You struggled to get out of it before the zombie sank it’s rotting teeth into the material. You slammed your knife into it’s skull then leaned heavily against the wall. The shelf slid away to show you an exit route. You ran towards the sunlight now streaming in and saw that Dean, Sam, Gadreel, Max and Alicia had all worked to get the shelf pulled out.
The moment Alicia saw you she looked at the guys “Turn around let me help her check herself out” the men all quickly obliged so you let her pull your shirt up and check across your back, stomach and both arms to assure you hadn’t been bit. “Didn’t you find a few suture kits at the last clinic?” She asked and you nodded then spoke loud enough the guys could hear “All clear boys. You can look now”
Dean’s eyes were glued to your left arm where the sleeve of your grey shirt was soaked with blood “Please tell me that’s a cut sweetheart” you smiled slightly “Bastard tried to bite me but only got my jacket” “Thank god” he breathed. You simply nodded and looked around “Did we get everything we need cause I’d really like to go home to the compound now. It’s been a long week” Sam laughed lightly and nodded “Yeah we got it all but first someone has to help stitch you up before we roll out”
------
Charlie had been nominated to help you stitch up your arm so you were sitting in the back of the van while she worked. Everyone else was keeping an eye out to ensure no more biters made their presence known. “So are we gonna talk about some of the weirdness?” You raised an eyebrow which made her nod in response whether at you or at herself “Ok then guess not” she tied off the last stitch and snipped it “I don’t have to tell you to keep it clean” you slid your shirt back on fully and gave her a small smile “I know aftercare instructions ma’am”
------
Dean watched you in the rearview mirror as he drove. You’d fallen asleep in the jacket Gadreel had given you to wear considering yours had been turned into a zombie chew toy. He couldn’t find it in himself to be angry that you were leaning against Gadreel asleep. He’d nearly lost you. Nothing else mattered. Why had he acted like he had towards you? Why couldn’t he just tell you he had feelings for you? Why hadn’t he realized it before Gadreel joined the compound? He let out a breath which made Sam look his way. “You good?” He nodded “Yeah be even better when we get home”
Tumblr media
A few days had passed since all of you had made it back to the compound. You had barely spoken to Dean since getting back. You were still conflicted about the way he’d acted on the run.You were walking through one of the greenhouses checking the medicinal plants. You could hear someone walking behind you but didn’t have to look to know who it was. You’d know Dean’s footsteps anywhere.
“What’s this one?” He asked stopping at the plant furthest away from you “Echinacea, it helps for colds and flu” you replied barely looking in his direction. He walked a little closer to you and touched another plant. “What about this one?” You sighed loudly before answering “Ginger, it has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral property and helps with nausea”
You finally turned to look fully at him “Can we not act like you actually give a damn about any of these plants? Why are you here Dean? You’ve avoided me for days, hell I’ve avoided you too so why are we talking now?” he took a few steps towards you stopping only a mere foot away “I miss you, you’re my best friend and I acted like an idiot..” “And practically accused me of being a whore that couldn’t even wait to get back to safety to fuck someone” you added and he chuckled lightly “That too”
“Why Dean? Why have you been pulling away from me for months and why did this run just cement the fact that our friendship is apparently broken beyond repair” you felt your voice break but didn’t try to hide it. You cared about Dean even if you’d resigned yourself to only being a friend to him because he’d never see you as more. Now you’d even lost that.
“Please, don’t say that Y/N. I was an asshole I’ll admit. I never should’ve acted like that towards you or Gadreel..it’s just..” he trailed off and you were too tired of beating around the bush by that point so this time you were the one to snap “Just what Dean?”
“I saw you getting close with him. I saw the way you two looked at each other then seeing his hands on you and the way you were smiling..I knew I’d lost any chance with you. It took me seeing you with him to open my eyes to just how much you mean to me” you were stunned into silence at his words. After a moment without you replying he laughed bitterly “Yeah and now I look like an idiot to add to it. Look I just wanted to say sorry and I hope you’ll forgive me”
He turned to walk out and only then did you find your voice “You are an idiot” he turned around to face you “Excuse me?” You crossed the space to stand in front of him “You’re an idiot Dean Winchester. I've had feelings for you for a long time. Yeah Gadreel is a good looking guy and a sweetheart. We’re good friends and I like spending time with him but as far as who I want? It’s been you, it’s always been you”
A smile slipped onto his face “Well does that mean we’re gonna give this a try?” you shrugged nonchalantly “I don’t know. Are you gonna be a jealous ass if I have male friends and hang out with them?” he laughed “No, I promise you my days of being a jealous asshole are over. If you’re sure you want me I know you only say what you mean” you tapped your chin in mock thought for a moment before saying “In that case why don’t we seal it with a kiss?” “Thought you’d never ask,” he replied, pulling you into his arms.

No one’s POV
Y/n stood there in shock as she hugged Bailey close. “Y/n! Y/N! GET YOU AND BAILEY OUT OF HERE NOW!” Ten yelled. “But!” You protested. “Y/n get out of here, you need to get to safety.” He said. I began to shed tears. “Ten..” Just then, all security guards and the people Jacob called bursted in the house. “YOU GET DOWN! NOW!” One of them said. They hit Ten in the nose with their gun and he fell on the ground.
“TEN!!” You exclaimed. “GET OUT OF HERE!” Ten yelled. A guard began to grab on you but Ten shot the guard in the head making him fall. You rushed out of the living room to the kitchen to a closet. You could see the action happening from there.
Ten stood up on his feet and wiped his nose. “Okay... Let’s go.” He said. Everyone began to run to him but he began to shoot them dead. He grabbed a guy by the arms as they tried to push him and twisted their arms, breaking them. He pushed them on the ground and ducked, avoiding a bullet. He swiped two men by tripping them up and took their weapons. He stabbed one in the chest and shot one in the head. He sensed bullets behind him and he flipped over, blocking himself with the stabbed body. He shot at the two men who shot at him.
He pushed the dead body on the ground and ran to attack the other four. He shot one of them and broke one of the other’s neck. As he was fighting, one of the guards snuck towards the closet you and Bailey was in and snatched you out of it. “DADDY!” Bailey shirked. Ten turned in your direction. He he shot the one that he was fighting and ran to you both.
He grabbed the guard by his neck and snapped it. He flipped the man over, trowing him on the ground and grabbing Bailey. He took Jake’s car keys and rushed to the garage. “Get in the car.” He ordered as he put Bailey in the backseat. He shut the door and got in the driver’s side, starting the car. The garage door lifted it up and he quickly pressed on the gas, backing up. You gasped and held onto the dashboard.
He turned the car around and stepped on the gas, rushing down the roads. As he was driving, he saw two black cars and a black van rush behind. “FUCK!” He yelled as he hit the wheel, speeding up. Bailey was in the backseat crying. “Daddy slow down! I can’t put my seatbelt on!!” She cried. “Daddy can’t slow down right now. Just hold tight.” He said as he peeked up in the rear view mirror.
“DADDY! SLOW DOWN! IM SCARED!” Bailey cried. “Damn it, Y/n quickly strap her in.” He said. You quickly leaned back and put her in the car seat and strapped her in tightly. You fastened the actual seatbelt over her completely to make sure she was okay. You seen that she was secured and sighed. You leaned back up into your seat a breathed out.
“Ten, please slow down..” You panicked. “Does it look like I have time to SLOW DOWN RIGHT NOW?!” He yelled in annoyance. He turned a corner hard, making you and Bailey scream. The cars behind him followed suit and they began to pull out guns. He seen and cursed. “Shit...” He pulled out two guns from the seat and loaded them both. “Take the wheel.” He said as he let down the window. “That’s dangerous!!” You exclaimed. “Life is dangerous! Now take the fucking wheel!” He yelled. You sighed and leaned over and began to drive, worried out of your mind.
He pulled his body out of the window and they began to shoot. He shot a bullet in the tires one by one, making the cars fall off the road. The van pulled out a gun and aimed it at Ten. The bullet reached Ten’s arm. “FUCK!” He yelled. He pulled himself back into the car and crawled to the backseat. “Daddy, you’re hurt!!” Bailey said. “Daddy’s okay, sweetheart. Cover your eyes for me.” He smiled. She did so and he began to punch the back of the window of the car.
You switched over to the driver’s side and began to drive. Ten kicked the back window open and pulled out another gun, way much bigger. “WHERE IN THE HELL DID THAT COME FROM?!” You exclaimed as you looked behind you. “Your husband.” He replied. He loaded the gun and pointed out the window. The shooter shot at the window in front of Bailey and she cried. Ten grabbed Bailey from her seat and held her close.
“Your eyes still closed?” He asked her. She nodded her head, sniffing. “Ten! My daughter!” You yelled. “She’s fine! Keep driving, baby.” He said. He began to shoot the gun at the drivers in front. After they were dead, he aimed for the shooter in the rooftop, killing him as well. He shot the tires and they went down the hill, tumbling. “Woowww...” Bailey said as she peeked up. Ten smiled and kissed her forehead.
He turned around and crawled in the front seat with Bailey in his arms. You peeked over and seen his bleeding arm. “Oh god, Ten you’re bleeding!” You exclaimed. He laughed. “I’m fine, turn right here.” He said. You did so and you all out of sight. You stopped the car and breathed out. He took off his jacket and tore a piece of it off. He wrapped it around his arm to stop the bleeding. “Hold on! I can clean it.” You said reaching in your emergency purse and pulling out a cloth and medicine.
You untied the fabric and lifted his arm up. He hissed in pain, making you immediately stop. “I’m sorry! Sorry!!” You said. “It’s alright. I’ll be fine.” He laughed. You poured the medicine on him. “How can you laugh at all of this? What are you, Joker?” You asked, cleaning the wound. “Sometimes you got to laugh to keep from crying.” He said. “Crying? Why would you cry?” You joked. “Because I’m putting the woman I love, her daughter, and my baby in this mess.” He said.
You looked at him. “Ten-“ “Chittaphon.” He corrected. “Chittaphon..it’s alright. You didn’t do this, my husband did. You’re just protecting me.” You said. “Besides,” you giggled. “I think this baby likes danger.” You said patting your stomach. He laughed and placed his hand on your stomach. “Does she now?” He asked. “She? How do you know if it’s a she? She could be a ‘He’” I said. “No..this is my baby girl. I know it is..” He mumbled.
You smiled and placed your hand over his. He leaned over and kissed you softly. “Ew...” You heard Bailey say. You both pulled away, laughing. You bandaged his arm up and put away the supplies. “So you came from a rich family?” You asked. He sighed. “Yeah I did.” He said. “But you’re an assassin...” You trailed off confused. “My parents was just like your husband. Snobby, rich, thinking they were better than everyone else. They also thought they were ‘too good’ for a son so they treated me like shit. Finally one night, I couldn’t take it anymore. I went to my grandmother’s house and stayed there. My grandmother was also rich, but she was humble. Like me. After three weeks of staying with my grandmother, I found out that my parents was in a car crash. At the same time, I was being bullied at school. After six years, my grandmother was becoming sick. I took care of her, feed her, bathed her. I was wishing to God that she wouldn’t leave. But, she then passed. I was angry at the world, I hated everyone. So I became an assassin to vent out my anger. I was given assignments to kill important people and then, I was assigned to you. I fell in love with you. I felt as if I was living again when I laid my eyes on you. You made me feel love again.” He shed a tear and smiled.
You smiled back and wiped his tears. You then frowned as you thought of something. “What happens if you don’t kill me?” I asked. He sighed. “That’s why we’re leaving.” He said. “WHAT?! LEAVING?!” You exclaimed. “Yes, we’re leaving.” He said. “But, you killed Jake. Shouldn’t that work?!” You asked. He chuckled.
“Not with my clan. You see, Jake was like our boss and his murder would cause this much commotion as you can see. I’m supposed to move in silence and not get caught in daylight, killing anyone and I murdered my boss.” He explained. You shook you head. “So are they looking for us?” You asked. He hummed. “Oh my god...” you said in disbelief. “So we need to go. Now.” He said “Where are we going?” You asked. “My home in Thailand.” He said sitting up. “But you’re hurt! You can’t drive!” You said starting the car. “Fine. I’ll just direct you.” He said.
“Okay.” You agreed. Before you can start pulling off, there was a load bang. You screamed and ducked your head. He only sighed. “Chittaphon. Get out.” You all heard a voice say. You panicked. “Calm down..” He whispered. Just then you were snatched out of the car. You screamed and kicked. “MOMMY!!” Bailey cried. Bailey was taken into another person’s arms. “Bailey!” Ten exclaimed. He got out of the car and seen you held a gun point and Bailey held.
“Lucas, let Y/n go.” Ten growled. “No, asshole.” He replied. He turned to his other members. “Xiaojun, put her down. Give Bailey here.” He said. “Hell no.” Xiaojun spat back. Kun stepped forward. “Let them go, Kun!” Ten yelled. “Chittaphon. You had one fucking job. How do you manage to FUCK IT UP?!” He yelled. “Kun-“ “You fell in love with her? I knew it, I knew you were lying from the start. You put a baby in her Chittaphon. A BABY!! I GAVE YOU A SIMPLE RULE AND THAT WAS WHAT?!” Kun yelled at Ten. “WHAT WAS IT?!” Kun yelled again.
Ten sighed. “No relations with the targets.” Ten said. “And what was that punishment if it was broken?” Kun asked. “The target will be shot 16 times.” Ten said. Y/n gasped and began to cry. “Lucas.” Kun motioned Lucas. He pushed Y/n on her knees and cocked her gun back. Bailey began to cry. “Shut that baby up!” Kun yelled. Xiaojun put a hand over Bailey’s mouth. “Say goodbye to Y/n and your baby, Chittaphon.” Kun said.
“Wait!” Ten said. “What?” Kun asked. Ten dropped his weapons on the ground and held his hands up. He walked over to Lucas and Y/n and helped her up. He moved her out of the way and lifted Lucas’s gun to his head. “I sacrifice myself for Y/n and Bailey.” Ten said. “Chittaphon, NO!” Y/n cried. “Get back, Y/n.” He said to her. The members looked at each other and at Kun. Kun smirked. “You heard him, get back. This will get messy sweetheart..” He said. “CHITTAPHON!” You yelled. “I said, get back Y/n. That is an order.” Ten said through gritted teeth.
You did so, tears streaming down your face. “Let Bailey go.” Ten said. Xiaojun put down Bailey and Y/n ran to her picking her up. “DADDY!” Bailey screamed. Ten turned is head slightly to her. “Daddy’s gonna be alright, Bailey. Go and get in the car.” Ten said. “Chittaphon...” You whimpered. “I will meet you in Thailand. I love you okay?” He said. Y/n sat there. “I can’t lose you!” You cried. “GO! THAT IS ANOTHER ORDER!” Ten yelled.
You rushed in the car and placed Bailey in the seat and strapped her in. You turned around to look at Ten one more time. “Go.” He said. “I love you..” You said. He smiled. “I love you too..” You got in the car and started it. You began to pull off down the road from the tunnel. As you were driving down the road, you heard gunshots. You flinched and cried.
He’s gone...

See You Again (English version) Newt x Reader
(English is not my native language so excuse me if there is any mistake)
Tumblr media
Finally they had made it. The Right Arm, the end of the Scorch, the end of hell, the end of WICKED. They didn't believe in it anymore and yet here they were, all sitting on the rocks high above the ground, contemplating the people who were gradually packing up the camp in order to leave tomorrow at dawn.
Y/N had delicately placed her head on Newt's shoulder in order to make the most of their newly acquired freedom. She could finally allow herself this simple gesture without having the impression that it was not the moment. Indeed the blond had confessed his love for her just before they fought the grievers to get out of the Maze but with the battle, Chuck's death -at this thought the girl's heart tightened- and the crossing of the Scorch they had never had the opportunity to live their relationship fully. And here, with her cheek on his warm skin and her nostrils impregnated with his masculine scent, she felt like she belonged. On top of that she was with her friends and that's all that mattered. Rather with a part of her friends sadistically reminded her brain as if to tarnish her sudden joy... It is true that many of her companions had died so that they could get there and she could not forget it. First there was Ben, a close friend of Minho and her, as they were all runners; then it was Alby's turn, their leader and their guide, to disappear. Then Chuck's sacrifice, which she still had a hard time getting over -maybe not as hard as Thomas, but still- and at the same time Gally's death, which saddened her, and then the last death, Winston's. Y/N still remembered his death and the way he had been treated. Y/N still remembered his screams when those damn cranks had lacerated his belly and that tragic gunshot that meant the death of their friend. At the thought she couldn't suppress a shiver.
-Y/N, Newt's voice suddenly rang out, waking her from her lethargy. Are you all right ?
He was surely aware of her silence and her shivers.
-Yes do not worry, she answered by playing gently with the fingers of the blond whom she fixed with a nostalgic face. I just thought of all the sacrifices which we had to endure to arrive here and of all the close ones that we lost.
Newt looked at the girl pressed up against him with a mixture of love, compassion and sadness in his brown orbs. He understood exactly what she was getting at, after all Alby was one of his best friends and he would never know they were out of the Maze. Yet he also knew that if he could do it again he wouldn't change a thing if it meant he could be here with her. It was with this thought that he gently lifted her face with his fingers under her chin to plunge his eyes into her Y/E/C ones.
-I know how you feel, we all feel it here. But you know as well as I do that we wouldn't be here without them, and maybe what I'm about to say will sound completely selfish, but I'm glad we're both here.
As an answer she gave him one of her sincere and radiant smiles that illuminated her beautiful face damaged by the dust and the sun. The blond wanted to bend down to kiss her sweet lips but Minho didn't count on it and took the girl by the armpits and made her turn in the air.
-Did I hear Princess depressed ?
-Minho ! Y/N shouted, ripped from the sweet embrace of the former second in command. Put me down right now or I swear I'll throw up on you !
-Better you throw up on me than on your loser boyfriend's mouth, said the asian boy proud of him. Don't you think ?
-Her loser boyfriend fucks you.
Newt had wanted to take a stern voice but he failed miserably far too happy to see his girlfriend and his best friend playing like children and laughing so lightly. It reminded him of the happy times he had spent on the Glade away from the horror of the outside world. Frypan must have been thinking the same thing because while the two of them were still running around behind each other the former Galder's cook approached the blond.
-I miss the Glade.
-Me too, Newt admitted. But now that it's all over I'm happy.
-Yes, it's all over, Fry murmured with a smile.
As the two troublemakers returned to sit with them breathless from their childishness Thomas arrived to join them, Chuck's statuette clutched in his fingers. There was a sudden silence as nostalgic thoughts undoubtedly resurfaced.
-If only Chuck could have seen this.
It was the brown man's voice, full of immeasurable sadness. Slowly Y/N put his hand on his shoulder in compassion as Newt cleared his throat.
-He would be so proud of you, Tommy.
The nickname made Thomas smile softly as he murmured a "yeah" in response. He missed little Chuck terribly, but was grateful to have Newt, Minho, Y/N, Frypan and Teresa by his side. He wondered where Teresa could be. He felt the need to see her and to hold her in his arms as the blond did with his friend. He was going to ask where she was but he was cut by Frypan who greeted Aris by shouting.
-l kinda like that kid.
Minho gave a septic look to Fry showing his disagreement with him.
-Yeah. I still don't trust him, though.
His remark made the blockards laugh, recognizing the typical suspicious behavior of the Asian.
-Minho in all his splendor, ladies and gentlemen.
The former keeper of the runners looked at the only girl of the group by raising his eyebrows then he smirked which never announces anything good.
-You, he began, pointing at her. Believe me I smell you ! You smell like klunk !
Suddenly a mini scream was heard coming out of his mouth as Y/N had just hit him in the shoulder.
-I call mistreatment of Asians racism, Frypan said.
-Thank you bro, Minho thanked him, pretending to cry. We understand each other !
After a new laugh from the blockards, Thomas remembered the question he wanted to ask before they debated Aris. He then turned his jet-black eyes towards his comrades.
-Hey, where's Teresa ?
Y/N frowned a little at the name. From the moment this girl arrived, she had found her strange and her doubts had been reinforced during their crossing of the Scorched Earth, but except for Minho and Newt, whenever she talked about it with someone, they told her that her suspicions were simply based on a feeling of jealousy because she was no longer the only girl in the group. Nonsense! The proof was that she got along very well with Brenda. But the girl with Y/H/C hair preferred to keep quiet and ignore the question unlike her boyfriend.
-Yeah, the blonde answered, pointing to a sharp rock in the distance behind them. She went up there.
The brunet thanked him with a nod before leaving hurriedly to meet her. They were all aware of Thomas' feelings towards his blue-eyed goddess and although the others didn't care -except maybe Minho who didn't hold Teresa in his heart- Y/N had a bad feeling.
This was confirmed when shortly afterwards bergs belonging to the WICKED began to arrive in the distance. The girl's heart began to pound ferociously as adrenaline and fear mingled within her. They had only just regained their fucking freedom!
The gladers only reacted when the first bombs hit the camp floor.
-Let's get moving, Minho yelled at them as he got up and headed downhill right into the action.
Y/N followed him after a last loving and fearful glance at Newt. Screams, blood and fire surrounded them now as they made their way to Harriet and Vince in search of weapons to fight with. Vince handed the gladers guns.
-Can you use these ?
They nodded and prepared to fire.
-Cover me, shouted the leader of the Right Arm.
So it was with fear but adrenaline that they stood around the van containing the machine gun and began firing at the WICKED soldiers. The rage of life they felt left little room for guilt, even though they would have deaths on their conscience.
-There are too many of them, Minho despaired.
They were running out of munitions and the asian's realization gave them an extra wave of fear... This was the end, WICKED was winning. As Y/N searched her pockets for ammunition she heard Vince's deep voice ringing in her ears just before she felt a wave of electricity run through every inch of her body and then she fell into unconsciousness.
When they woke up, the gladers were in a line, among the other WICKED subjects, kneeling and weakened. Y/N stood between Minho and Newt and looked at Rat Man with all the rage she felt. She had to look away, however, when a soldier came up behind her, scanned her neck and announced.
-A3.
This is what she was reduced to. A fucking number, like an animal. They were dehumanizing them as if they were nothing more than livestock. WICKED was intentionally forgetting that they were just teenagers. This realization made her clench her fists and teeth. Her impulsiveness was getting the better of her.
-Where's Thomas, she heard Rat Man ask.
And before she could stop herself, her rebellious and impulsive side surfaced.
-Up your ass, you rat-faced bastard !
A silence was created on the battlefield. Newt looked at her reproachfully as Janson turned red with anger. He approached the girl and before the gladers could react Rat Man took her by the arm and threw her into the middle of them all. And as she tried to get up from the ground, she was kicked in the abdomen, making her regret her stupid behavior.
-You want to play it smart ? Well you're going to regret it kid, he then turned to one of his colleagues. Did you say that we had almost all of them ?
Y/N saw the guard nod as she began to get really scared.
-Good, Janson seemed to be pleased as he loaded his gun and pointed it at her. I guess no one will mind if I kill one of them then ?
The salt-and-pepper haired man was preparing to shoot under the incessant shouting of the gladers and the threats of Newt when Thomas appeared.
-I'm here.
Janson then diverted his attention from the young girl who went to snuggle in the arms of her boyfriend. The latter held her against him as if his life depended on it.
-Everything's fine, he whispered in her ear, trying to reassure himself. I am there.
During this time the brown one also took a blow of the part of the Rat Man then was placed at the sides of Minho who looked at him dazed.
-Why didn't you run ?
-I'm tired of running.
His statement seemed to cast a sort of veil of hope over the blockards and Y/N lifted herself a little from the blond to give Thomas a discreet smile. He was right, they should stop running. However, her smile quickly faded when another berg appeared and landed a few meters away from their position, bringing a sense of fear back to the group.
Ava Paige. The woman with platinum blonde hair who was supposedly dead and was the head of the WICKED. Their worst enemy was standing in front of them, staring at them like the test subjects they were in her eyes. She ordered Janson to start the boarding and that's how the different teenagers were dragged towards the berg. So far, none of the gladers had been taken. However, Ava stopped in front of them and made Thomas stand up.
-Good evening, Thomas.
Was she making fun of him? She put him in a damn Maze, sent him to a city full of cranks and hunted him down to say a simple good evening ? The only thing the brunette could think at that moment was "go to hell" but he preferred to keep quiet and look at her, a defiant glare stuck to his face. However all trace of insolence flew away when Teresa appeared at the side of this woman.
-I don't believe it, said Minho, standing up.
-Teresa, Frypan murmured in astonishment.
-But what's going on here ? asked Newt lost.
-She's with the enemy, Thomas suddenly said in a voice devoid of emotion.
Y/N couldn't stop a nervous laugh from coming out of her lips as a huge hatred took place in her heart.
-I knew it, she whispered, realizing she was right all along. You are a fucking traitor !
The blond realizing that his girlfriend was once again going to put herself in a sensitive situation placed his arm in front of her as if to protect her and prevent anyone from hurting her. He would not allow it.
That was the moment Janson chose to intervene.
-Teresa's always had an evolved appreciation of the greater good. Once we restored her memories, it was only a matter of time.
-I'm sorry, she began as the gladers looked at her accusingly. I had no choice. This is the only way. We have to find a cure.
Thomas lowered his head feeling his heart tear as the girl he was in love with drove the stake of betrayal deeper into his heart. He wanted so badly for this to be just a nightmare yet he knew it was real.
-And a cure for your bullshit ? Minho interjected with his usual sarcasm. Didn't you find it ?
-Drop it, Minho, added Y/N. All it would take is a little loyalty and humanity.
The dark-haired girl looked down but ignored them royally as Ava confirmed her words. The latter was trying to convince them that she was not a monster and that she just needed more time. But Marie, the camp doctor, spoke up.
-And more blood !
-Hello, Marie, said the blonde woman as the female doctor approached. I hoped we'd meet again. I'm sorry it had to be under these circumstances.
-I'm sorry about a lot of things too, Marie cut her off. But not this. At least my conscience is clear.
Unlike Teresa, Y/N thought furtively before concentrating on Ava's answer.
-So is mine.
A shot rang out, cutting short the exchange between the two women. And the said Mary collapsed on the ground under the desperate cries of Vince and the murderous glance of Janson. While looking at this scene with teary eyes, Thomas understood what he had to do. At this thought his breathing became more panting and the tension in his muscles more oppressive. He waited for the WICKED to begin boarding them before pulling out a bomb and threatening to detonate it.
-Everyone stand back, Janson ordered his soldiers, his stress mounting. Hold your fire !
-Let them all go, Thomas shouted as Rat Man tried to talk him down.
Janson, Ava, and even Teresa all began to talk to him to make him listen to reason, not realizing that they were only reassuring him of his decision. Moreover, the gladers, at first overwhelmed by the events, began to understand why their friend was doing this and it was resigned that Minho came to Thomas' side and nodded to show his support. He was followed closely by Frypan, Newt and Y/N who hold hands with the blond man.
-We're with you, Thomas, said the latter, taking his girlfriend in his arms for a last embrace.
-Do it Thomas, added the asian to cover the protests of Teresa and Ava.
-We are ready, made Fry by holding the shoulder of the brown.
-It's the end, finished Y/N by pressing a little more strongly the blond in her arms.
After a last glance towards his friends Thomas turned to Teresa.
-We're not going back there, he declared while shaking before preparing to release the bomb. It's the only way.
Suddenly, as Ava Paige's scream resonated as if to prevent the explosion, a horn went off, stopping Thomas in his tracks. It was Jorge who drove like a madman into one of the WICKED helicopters, leaving the members of the Right Arm the opportunity to disperse and defend themselves.
-Are you all right ? asked Newt, concerned about the well-being of his beloved.
For all answer Y/N nodded her head before joining the others and suddenly getting down on the ground while Thomas had just thrown the bomb on the members of the inter-governmental organization. As they got up, they went in search of weapons to fight with. Brenda was defending them from the top of the cliffs like a sniper. She had managed to hit Janson in the shoulder, which made Y/N smile and find a gun. Hope made her heart beat again and gave her enough adrenaline to fight.
As for Vince, he went back to his machine gun, shooting at the WICKED soldiers and at the same time quenching his thirst for revenge for Marie's death. It was total chaos. The gladers were running for cover, covered by Minho and Y/N who were the only two of the group to have acquired weapons. They found some debris to hide behind about hundred meters away.
-Keep going, the asian shouted. We got you !
-Be careful ! Newt asked worriedly as they ran to their hiding place.
-Don't worry about us, the girl tried to reassure him.
Thomas suddenly arrived running, he passed behind his two friends to join the others. It was the last one they could retreat. Y/N then began to run towards her friends when she realized that the asian did not follow her.
-Minho, what are you doing ? she shouted to him already six meters away from him.
-Go ahead, go ahead, he replied, shooting at a soldier. I'll catch up with you !
She continued her race trusting her best friend when she saw him taking an electrifying ball of the WICKED and falling on the ground shaking of spasms. She shouted his name and asked him to get up and join her. She heard her friends in the distance doing the same but the former keeper of the runners was close to sink in the unconsciousness. She then turned her gaze to her friends in the distance and then to Mihno who was beginning to be carried away. One last time she looked into Newt's chocolate eyes and mouthed a final "I love you" as he understood her intention and shouted at her to stop. It was too late, she had made her decision, we don't abandon our friends. She then faced the asian and started to run towards him as fast as she could. She could feel her heart racing as she shot at the two guards holding her friend. Once she reached him she let out a sigh of relief and with great effort and a few more drops of sweat she managed to lift Minho off the ground. She then looked up at her friends' hiding place and began to sprint. However, as she saw the hopeful looks on her friends' and Newt's faces, she felt an excruciating sting in her back and electricity paralyzing her. She then fell on the sand and dust while letting out a cry of agony which was replaced very quickly by the cry of despair of her favorite blond boy.
The latter seeing the girl he loved being taken away by the WICKED wanted to intervene but his friends understanding that it was over held him back with tears in their eyes and their hearts in pieces. And it was under their desperate looks that the berg enclosing their friends started to fly away while Janson threw them a last triumphant smile while holding firmly the unconscious body of Y/N in his arms.
-Bastards, Newt shouted, on the verge of a nervous breakdown. You bastards ! Bring them back ! Come back ! Give her back to me !
Thomas went over to him to put his hand on his shoulder, but as surprising as it may seem, the blond threw himself into his arms and cried against his shoulder. Usually the second in command kept everything to himself and did not share his sorrows. He never expressed his sadness, but this was too much for him to bear. When Y/N had arrived in the block just after his suicide attempt, she had been a breath of fresh air for him. She had been his little dose of hope and he needed her. He couldn't lose her.
-Tommy, he said in a firm voice, looking into Thomas' wet eyes. Promise me we'll get them back.
-I promise, Newt.
