A Descriptive List of Celtic Fiction Podcasts
Reminiscent of fiction podcasts like TMA, Jack of All Trades etc... If you enjoy anything horror-comedy, general horror or narrative podcasts check these out!
note: Thank you for the reccommendations! I've added them to the list.
Scottish
Middle:Below by Tin Can Audio - A horror-comedy about a fella called Taylor, he can travel inbetween the regular world and the 'middle' realm, and seems to be the only one...until!! He has banter with a charismatic ghost man called Gill and has a pet cat named Sans(?). Good sound quality and fun times.
The McIlwraith Statements by Ghostly Thistle - A monologue narrative about Sarah McIlwraith, recounting her mysterious involvement in the famous 'IPP' study. Dark academia vibes. The narrator has an absolutely lovely voice and accent!
Caledonian Gothic - Descriptive like HFTH, storytelling but the serious tone borderlines silly. If you like I Have Seen Niagara, you might like this! States it's true crime, true stories, but also promises magic and narratives aswell.
Irish
Neighbourly by Matthew O.K Smith - A horror anthology podcast about a creepy neighbourhood and the residents within. Stunnin' narration, with really good stories. I got pretty far in and it uploads every Monday. Great stuff.
The Switchboard by Hog and Dice Productions - A 'daily radio show' horror podcast set in a LIGHTHOUSE. HELL YEAH. It's got some funky sound design and some good stories. Both this and Neighbourly have lovely Dublin accents, and nice stories as usual.
Petrified by Peter Dunne and Liam Geraghty - An award-winning horror anthology podcast with very captivating and realistic dialogue. Unsettling and uneasy feeling it gives me. Main guy Teddy from the 'Dead Air' prologue is defo northern! I want to emphasize the realistic dialogue, it's great. Haven't heard him yet, but this podcast also has CECIL BALDWIN acting in it. Give it a shot!
In Darkness Vast by Hammergrin - A sci-fi podcast with some characters with funky names like Doombuggy, Earthfrank and Nervejump. Wolf 395 vibes, Nervejump is a silly AI lady up to shenanigans. Has some fun voices and sound design. Don't know much about it but it's made in Cork!
The Outside Tapes by Liam Brett and Evan Daly - Classic casette tape horror drama. Alfie Greaves is a journalist investigating a bizarre series of events that are all somehow connected. I love Alfie's voice because he has the same accent and inflection as me so it's very lovely to listen to! He is investigating deaths, so it seems to be a nice mix of Magnus Archives and Death by Dying.
Welsh
Seren by Robin Howell - A short sci-fi about Seren flying through the stars to terraform a new planet. Going by the trailer, it sounds great! Some Cymraeg right off the bat. Great stuff. Gives off some melancholy vibes, and has a funky spaceship AI voice.
Gather the Suspects by MadeUp Audio Productions - A groovy-opening theme mixed with a promising murder mystery. Set in Wales "during a very boring apocalypse". Promises relatable characters, procrastinators, mystery and humour.
This Foul Earth by John Tucker - A comedic, easygoing series (from what ive heard so far) in which everyday Welsh people describe a story they believe deserves to be archived for future generations. Clever writing and good vibes!
as always if youse have anything to add rb and pop it in the tags, these are all very underrated and theyre all quite good and high quality! have a good evening yall

M is for The McIlwraith Statements!
Sarah McIlwraith was part of an infamous paranormal research study when she was a PhD student. 15 years have passed since this study, and Sarah hasn’t spoken about what happened during that time. She has a big secret - she can actually see ghosts.

*foams at the mouth at the mention of the Black Tapes*
Ghosts! - Unwell, The McIlwraith Statements
Something's not right - Palimpest, Mirrors, Greater Boston, Girl in Space, Greater Boston, The Far Meridian, my great unfinished love The Bridge, The Bright Sessions
I don't know what category - Mabel
Other: Thirteen, it's anthology horror so every episode is a standalone
Alright kids it's that time of year, I need a good spooky AD. Or five. Here's what I have in mind, but recs outside these categories also much appreciated!
Ghosts! (Rural Haunted: The Barn, This House Will Devour You, Shadows at the Door, LifeAfter kind of)
A monster is stalking me from slightly off-screen (The White Vault, Down, Carrier)
Something's not right but the full extent of the f*cked-uppery is not visible until it's too late (Red Valley, The Magnus Archives, Subsister, Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature, Archive 81)
Found footage, I just think it's neat (The Black Tapes, Video Palace, What Happened in Skinner, Lovecraft Investigations, Blackwood)
I don't know what category to put I Am In Eskew into, unsettling and emotionally devastating prose?

Supernatural Fiction Podcast Recs
Happy halloween! I wanted to put together another rec list to get out today.
Supernatural fiction includes some fantasy, some horror, and something all on its own. Here is a rec list of some audio dramas I enjoy in this genre.
The Antique Shop
The audio journal of Maya, a university student who takes a job at an antique shop. The shop contains strange and magical and cursed items. It also contains Madam Norna, who can help people with supernatural problems but there is always a cost, and the Madam must work with fate and not against it-- something Maya doesn’t agree with. There is also a great enemies (or acquaintances with animosity between them) to friends relationship that makes me happy.
What follows is the strange stories of those that come to the shop and the slow corruption arc esque change as Maya becomes closer and closer to Fate and the role of the Madam.
The Bridge
Watchtower 10 sits in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, keeping lonely watch over the Transcontinental Bridge. Our main character Etta broadcasts stories, often strange, that happened on the Bridge. Meanwhile, some of her backstory begins to be revealed, and the sea creature in lower level 3 has people coming after him.
Etta and the other people who work at Watchtower 10 are all delightful characters.
McGillicuddy And Murder’s Pawn Shop
The podcast is set in 1921 taking the format of the diary belonging to Melinda Maudie Merkle. Maude has a terribly boring life as a typist, and one of her only sources of joy is going every so often to a pawn shop, McGillicuddy & Murder’s. One day, she comes across a broken piece of china with a blue eye on it. After coming home with the eye, strange things begin to happen, and she finds herself immersed in a world of wonder and horror and magic. An adventure, at last. Though perhaps not quite how she imagined it.
A lot of healing into a new person, leaving behind bad relationships, and surrounding one’s self with trusted friends and community. And, of course, adventure.
The McIlwraith Statements
15 years after the fact, Sarah McIlwraith is making her statements regarding the infamous IPP study. The IPP study was a psychology-focused scientific study into mediums, hauntings, and the paranormal. It lasted three years before it was revealed to be a hoax, ruining the careers of those involved. Sarah was a phd student working on the study. But here is the thing: the study never found anything, but Sarah has always been able to see ghosts. And many of those haunted locations were indeed haunted.
Sarah is a great character, and the stories she tells are all very interesting as you hear about how the study worked, the ghosts she met and helped, the mediums that always seemed to be faked. Meanwhile, Sarah is looking into the mysterious funding the projects got, which keeps a good meta plot going.
Kane and Feels
Lucifer Kane and Brutus Feels, paranormal investigators. These two are chaotic, absolutely insane, and fantastic. Great use of narration with both characters alternating narrating. They are buddies, your honor. Horror! Weird things! Dream logic! If it’s a demon, Feels will probably punch it. The little one helps, and the big one makes tea.
The Hidden People
More on the urban fantasy side than the horror side, this podcast follows Mackenna Thorne. It’s very self-aware and has a lot of fun bringing in other genre bits (the hacker, the funny guy, a fair amount of Buffy references I enjoy immensely). Mack’s parents are murdered, apparently by none other than Mackenna Thorne. As this mystery unfolds, a world to the hidden people (the unseelie court) is opened.
Mack has such an incredible character arc.
There is a demonic narrator who is constantly amused by everything the characters do wrong.
The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity, and Mortality
Let the AI Audio Tour Guide take you on a tour of the museum. Hear the stories - some horror, some soft, some strange, and some tragic - of the various exhibits. If your Audio Tour Guide is behaving... strangely, you should deposit your audio device in the nearest incinerator.
The Audio Tour Guide gets so much character development, and it is an utter delight.
Beware the man with a voice like honey and chocolate and coffee all at once.
Jar Of Rebuke
Dr. Jared Hel works at the Enclosure, which studies cryptids (for lack of a better word). Jared works there after having amnesia, and he only remembers the past two years. And always wears a key on a necklace. They have one skill that makes him very useful for studying cryptids: he can die and revive.

I need help finding a podcast or I will never sleep again
I listened to the first episode around the beginning of the year and spotify has since banished it from my history.
It had 2-3 narrators; the protagonist they were describing was a woman who was hunting a creature that only came out when a mist comes over the sky and blocks out the sun or something. She had a dog that was lazy and the monster was a translucent creature that she wanted to skin for its hide.
And i think the narrators mentioned the end of the world was coming.
Please help I want to rest.

Podcasts I Recommend Part 7:
Among the Stars and Bones
An absolutely beautiful podcast about a group of archeologists studying alien ruins. Not only is it amazingly well written with great voice actors, but I loved the characters, which to me is immensely important. Despite there being so much going on, not once did I find myself screaming at a character for missing the obvious. The story does not rely on charscerts being stupid or missing the obvious, which is an all too common trope that I absolutely hate.
The Antique Shop
My mother once told me about how, when she was young, she discovered the chrinocles of Narnia at the library, and she loved them. She couldn’t understand how no one had told her about them. That’s about how I felt when I started The Antique Shop. I fell in love with the first episode and I am already watching my feed for the next episodes.
The McIlwraith Statements
Sarah McIlwraith records statements of her time as part of a university research team attempting to disprove the existence of ghosts. But Sarah McIlwraith can see ghosts, and is trying desperately to hide it. It’s by the same person who made the Antique Shop, and I am happy to report it is just as good. The stories hold my attention, and it makes my time at work pass much faster listening to a podcast like this.
Warning: Some strong language in later episodes
Janus Descending
Janis descending belongs to my recently discovered podcast genre of space archeology. I liked Janus Descending as a podcast the same what I liked Frankenstein as a book. Nothing called to me specifically, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. That being said, it is written in a very unique way. We get one characters records in the correct timeline, while the other character’s is more or less going backwards. Both are tinted by personal bias and its up to the listener to patch together the truth.
Warnings: frequent strong language
Fairy Tales for Unwanted Children
The title says it all. These episodes are very short, so its probably not reasonable something you can put on before doing yard work, but it is something I recommend trying when you have a few minutes to listen in, these are incredibly good short stories. If you like creepypasta, you will probably like this podcast

ok i was gonna publish this list of interesting podcasts after the Podcast Marathon (of first episodes) but i have been too busy to do more listens recently so i will just update this as i gradually listen to more. it’s an ongoing project.
(for context i was looking for full-on sci fi and/or fantasy, but some of these were more ‘real world with One Bit of Genre thrown in’ which is not what i am after right NOW but still good for later)
ones i think i like (EDIT now with ‘ones i Super Duper Like’ and ‘ones i think are pretty good, still better than list two but did not hook me QUITE as hard as the Very Much Ones’):
ones i Super Duper Like:
the godshead incidental
saffron and peri
the rest is electric
hit the bricks
arin key and the runaway corpse
pod to pluto
project ozma
where the stars fell

here be dragons
what will be here
camp here and there
brimstone valley mall
midnight diner
ones that i like a regular amount:

discovery park
in transit
untypical
all’s fair
the 12:37
wizard seeking wizard
the tower
desperado
the never rad miscellany

monstrous agonies
ones i think i might possibly like, but that require further investigation:

kakos industries
mount olympus university
the after disaster broadcast
directive
red valley
the prickwillow papers
solutions to problems
2298
and 195
magic king dom

the night post

the graveyard tapes (rly very conflicted abt this one, requires MUCH more investigation before i decide)
paired
the vanishing act
the gray line
inco
moonbase theta out (genuinely a v good show, just not yet sure if it is fun & funny for me, but also a good chunk of my podcasty followers will enjoy this)
ones i can see other ppl liking but i am not quite feeling (further listening miiiight win me over if they get better but... eh.):
cybernautica
valence (ok these first two i actually went through the first 4/5 eps bcos i did them before i decided on the one-episode thing but also... they just did not click)
sayer
startripper

Going through a tag and I found a list of media you recommended. How on EARTH do you manage to listen to all those podcasts???? I want to try listening to more because they sound so cool but there’s just so much to get through lol
Hehe I'm glad you found my rec list! I worry sometimes that I send those out into the void.
I am also taking your question literally because I know a lot of people who I try to get into podcasts who think they don't have time to listen or are intimidated by the amount of content.
I listen to ... a lot of podcasts. Like, a goodly number. Honestly, for me what makes that work is that I am a multi-tasker and a binge-watcher by nature (what's up adhd). So I like to have a show or podcast going while I do things. I tend to have a different thing for different shows (not always, but it happens).
Examples:
- The Magnus Archives and crocheting. (Cannot recommend getting into crocheting, knitting, or quilting highly enough. TMA took me through an entire blanket and several scarves besides. It is a task that can give you a visual stimulus plus something to do with your hands that lets you process the words in the podcast better without it getting tedious.)
- Alice Isn't Dead and sewing. (Another strong visual and physical activity)
- Welcome To Night Vale and painting. (When it rains, I like to go and paint, so I bring Night Vale with me.)
- King Falls AM and math. (For me, because the numbers occupy a separate part of my head than words, this was a good activity for the same reason as the crafts.)
- Hello From The Hallowoods and cooking. (Same reason as before, plus it is an incentive to try out more complex or time consuming recipes without it getting tedious. A lot of soup. A fair bit of curry.)
- Midnight Burger and making seitan. (Same reasons as before. It's a good thing to do while - um - rinsing dough.)
- The McIlwraith Statements and washing dishes. (A necessary task incentivized.)
- The Hidden People and live tweets. (Sounds silly, but I will reply to the show's twitter with my reactions as I listen because it is fun and keeps me occupied for listening to one episode at a time.)
- Patient 33 and breakfast. (Yeah, just picking a meal and listening to a new episode every Wednesday while I eat.)
I also know people who listen during a given car ride (ex. to and fro work) or while doing other necessary tasks.
If you struggle with long shows, go for shorter ones! If you struggle with long plots, try out anthologies like Hubris! If you have a menial task that you hate doing, incentivize it with a podcast you are intrigued by!
There are many great places to get recs (me of course, Audio Drama Infinitum on Twitter, @boombox-fuckboy , and more), but they can also get overwhelming. I tend to subscribe to a lot of podcasts on Google Podcasts (my podcatcher of choice) and just scroll through my subscriptions when I am in between shows until I find something that fits the vibe I am in the mood for.
I also, of course, recommend all the podcasts mentioned above.

Gas prices are shooting up faster than the Biden vote count at 2 Am shirt
To maintain their popularity or not falling down from the height they climbed in the light of Putin’s war, they need more actions and that can lead to full scale war! Half of what hes doing is unnecessary why try to destroy nuclear power plants? That really doesn't make sense unless Putin is out to make the Ukraine uninhabitable for centuries. With fall out from the reactors. It's sad the way the Russian army is behaving. Can anyone tell me where I can get the Russian perspective on this? The BBC and UK Media are not disclosing anything Sergie Lavrof is saying and only giving us selective snippets of his statements! Thomas Mcilwraith There are two Russian perspectives. One is official propaganda which claims that civilians are not killed and Russian soldiers are not dying there.
Buy it here: Gas prices are shooting up faster than the Biden vote count at 2 Am shirt
