The more romance anime I watch, the more I realize nothing will ever hit as hard as Sasaki to Miyano. Those two perfected anime romance tropes. Something that almost every romance doesn't seem to understand is pacing. Either the characters will fall for each other immediately (or one will fall immediately and the other has to figure out if they like them) or they take an entire season to figure out they're in love.

The reason Sasaki to Miyano works so well is because they start as friends. They share common interests and slowly get to know each other. And when Sasaki confesses, the drama comes from Miyano coming to terms with the possibility of liking a boy and the image he has of himself. It's Miyano's personal journey about being a fudanshi that creates the conflict. It's not just a case of "Oh, idk if I like you like that so I'm going to take the entire season to decide whether or not we should date." Like, yes Miyano's inner conflict goes on for a long time, but I feel like it kind of needs to. Nobody else can do the "I need time to think about it" trope as well as them. It always ends up looking like one person is stringing the other along for no reason until they're prompted to realize their feelings through jealousy. It's fine to take time to figure things out, but when the characters are being wishy-washy for no reason (and they don't get the idea that it's okay to go on dates with someone to figure out if there's chemistry), it drives me fucking crazy!

Watched Mamma Mia and its sequel for the first time this past weekend and how come none of yall told me the main selling point of the first movie was a middle-age woman re-finding the love of her life and her daughter completely accepting the fact that she has three dads?? All while dancing around a gorgeous Greek island and singing Abba songs??

I understand being critical of remus but there's a real lack of understanding for his lycanthropy that comes as a reason for it on your blog. Kind of weird considering it's often depicted as an allegory for disability and the discrimination that comes with it

i don’t really touch the allegory part of it for…reasons but i’m gonna argue that i’ve never undermined it either. i do not like remus, but most of that is kept in dms and rant channels. what u guys see here is a very sanitised, nUaNcEd version of it. most of what i criticise him for is very like. individual choices he makes.

and ofc i realise that personal actions don’t exist in a vacuum, that those are informed by the structural conditions around him, but at most they can explain what he did, not justify it, yeah?

there’s hundreds of blogs out there that are real sympathetic to remus for precisely this reason. the entire reason i even started being critical was because THAT entirely ignored the fact that his behaviour had consequences for others. perhaps i swung too hard towards the other side but i think i keep it remarkably even here, on my blog at least, considering how much i actually dislike him lol

I do wonder how they'll handle MC returning to the present. If we go back. I kinda feel like they'd wipe/alter their memories so they forget us so when we roll up on them in the future everything in OG still can still happen. It'd kinda suck that they're undoing their character development and leaving some boys in worse states (Belphie becomes racist again, and Beel is forced to continue living with his guilt) even with the knowledge they do get better.

Like to me the most memorable and interesting alien sapients are the ones where the author sat down and really tried to work out what life would be like if you had these specific traits.

Telling me tiny bird people or giant spider people had lives and social systems basically identical to humans* is the laziest most boring shit!!
