A handful of songs for Mono and Seven, but let's let Six have some glory and discuss a song for her:
Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day.
This song might fit multiple LN characters, but I think it fits Six the most.
You said that Six is a lone wolf, so the song's constant theme of being alone suits her. The 'what's f*cked up' bit could reference her being repulsed of screwed up things like her finding out that kids are being cooked and served as food in the Maw (cannibalism), and she has to choose picking between the sausage she knows is made of human flesh or a Nome (just a critter as far as she knows and that she may have hugged up to 12 of before).
And the line from the song that's made for her is 'My shadow's the only one that walks beside me', because of Shadow Six.
Ah, a Six playlist!
Yes, Boulevard of Broken Dreams... the lyrics fit well. Great choice! ~~~
Ruins (Ella Isaacson) - Voices in the head, trapped in a madhouse, burning betrayal, the ending is an escape... walking away from the ruins.
Blood // Water (grandson) - Sacrifices, corrupt systems, the price of greed, poisoned.
Without Me (Halsey) - Supporting someone you feel left you behind. In a way, that person moving on to bigger more powerful things because of what you did for them... even if the context for this is wrong.
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (XYLO) - Circling tides like time, drowning, needing saving; the choice between the chaos of the land or the chaos of the sea and being stuck amidst both of them.
Run Boy Run (Woodkid) - Also befitting of Mono and Seven... Fleeing from a world not meant for you. People trying to catch you. One day you'll grow up, but for now you are young and must flee when you are powerless.
Living in the Shadows (Matthew Perryman Jones) - Confused on who the enemy is. Shadows. Feeling like something was taken from you. Seeing a truth others can't. No longer hiding from one's dark side.
Falling Inside the Black (Skillet) - Dreaming of the way things used to be. Having a connection with someone. That someone leaving you in some way. Begging to not be alone. Falling into darkness.
Youth (Daughter) - Those who still breathe are lucky, because you breathe through corruption. Shadows settle in after someone left. Chasing the future. One day revealing the truth that could threaten your life. Apathy. Old memories recollected. Destruction caused by someone important, a shocking revelation. A silhouette, a shadow of yourself than you were before. Bitter feelings. Perhaps still missing the one who your feelings have soured for.
Vandalize (ONE OK ROCK) - Safety, rebuilding... caught off guard, broken heart, betrayal, marked by those you once knew.
Goodbye (Ramsey) - Memories of bloodshed; smoke up ahead. No longer recognizing one's home... wondering where your childhood friend disappeared to. Deciding its time to say goodbye to it all.
Fault Line (The Rigs) - Standing up to a world as a hero, only to flee and hide when the world bites back. Crushed dreams, caught in the wreckage, unable to tell friend from foe. Caught in the crossfire of the war inside one's soul. Searching for that someone... no matter what side they are on.
Living Hell (Bella Poarch) - Don't let people close. Threaten to make one's life a living Hell. Won't change. Always been cruel.
Two Birds (Regina Spektor) - Two friends. One rambunctious and free. The other promises they too will be like this... but lies.
Carousel (Melanie Martinez) - Round and round like a time loop. No turning back. Running through playland hand in hand. Freakshows together. Disappearing act.
Tag, You're it (Melanie Martinez) - Playing tag. Rough housing. Getting kidnapped.
Milk and Cookies (Melanie Martinez) - Lunacy, craziness. Singing a lullaby where you die at the end. Cookies baked sweet and poisoned for you. Never want to see you again. Ashes burning down.
Playground (Bea Miller) - Playground of nightmares and fantasies. Welcome to the lost and found. Prices to pay, sinking into the wasteland.
Mountains (Message to Bears) - (Also works for Mono and Seven) Running away into the night, always could have. Maybe never could have.
Gasoline (Halsey) - Been insane, been in pain. Wasting a pretty face. This isn't a dream. Part of the machine. Not human. Living on a screen. A face made up. Lighting matches. Pointing fingers. Voices in your head. Heart of gold, but hands are cold.
Season of the Witch (Donovan) - Things to see. Strange faces, strange places. Witches and stitches. Surreal and paranormal.
DARKSIDE (Neoni) - No heroes or villains. Shadows in your head. Phantoms. Monsters and demons. Darksides. Embracing madness. Living in nightmares.
Dolls (Bella Poarch) - Cute, polite doll. Deranged and backstabbing beneath. Knife under the sheets. Bitter and Sweet. Provoked and then attacked. Walking all over those who went after you.
INFERNO (Sub Urban, Bella Poarch) - Sweet but villainous. Run away. Be afraid as she loses her head.
Evil Spider (BENEE) - Tangled together. Never letting go. Won't bite unless you hurt me or struggle. Fangs out. Run and hide.

I'm here for your follower event! My name is Mint nice to meetcha!
Regarding the event here my request.
Character: Kazuha
Song: Carousel (Melanie Martinez)
Lyric: "Why did you steal my cotton candy heart? You threw it in this damn coin slot."
Plot: Reader has an unrequited crush on Kazuha. Everytime they get try to tell him, he responds by saying" You're such a good friend to me." Reader is disheartened by this but doesn't want to give up trying to win Kazuha's heart. So Reader is stuck in a loop trying to win something that will never be theirs. (Also Kazuha is the type to me to not get attached romantically to someone. All people the man had loved has died so I think someone loving him will make him anxious)
Sorry I should have double checked if you can do angst. If you can't and need me to do a happier theme dm me☆
Hage a nice night or day!
WHY DID YOU STEAL MY COTTON CANDY HEART ?
Ships..? Kazuha x Reader
Warnings. Hurt / No comfort, angst, rejection. inazuma archon quest & kazuha backstory spoilers!
A/N. Hi Mint!! I hope this fic I wrote is good enough for your brilliant idea ♥. Also, don’t worry about the angst!! This is practically an angst blog at this point anyways LMFAO
This was originally going to be a modern au but I think this works better :)
"...WHY DID YOU STEAL MY COTTON CANDY HEART?"
"YOU THREW IT IN THE DAMN COIN SLOT."
Why?
Why couldn’t he see how much you loved him?
Every time you tried opening up to him, tried confessing your feelings for him, he… turned you down.
You understood his pain, of course. You were just as good a friend to Tomo as he was. You had felt just as much pain when he died to… well, that part isn’t very important.. But… this was too far, even for Kazuha. Kazuha was destroying himself in his grief for someone that was… gone, no matter how much he mourned. Attempts at comfort were pushed away, Kazuha being scared that he would lose whoever was with him.
Every time you saw him, a sense of dread filled your chest as he stopped being his past self.
It was terrible; and affected anyone and everyone who knew him.
Every time he boarded the Crux again, you saw him. You saw him, looking better, but still with something missing from his past self.
Beidou couldn’t have noticed. She didn’t know him before the incident happened. She noticed your caution and hesitance around him, though, yet… still didn’t question it. She knew you two had things that you had experiences that she couldn’t understand in the past, so she… left the problem to you, but you knew you could always talk to her if necessary.
Day after day after day, Kazuha became better at hiding his pain… until suddenly, one day he met an anomaly.
The Traveler, who could wield whatever element they chose, without a vision… could possibly awaken the dead vision of his lost friend. A spark awakened in Kazuha’s eyes… but was quickly extinguished when he realized they didn’t need to use any vision..
You were with him, Beidou and the Traveler when they made the long journey across the ocean to the land of your birth-- and long lost memories in the land of Eternity, where you would see the omnipresent god who killed your friends- one his life stolen from him, the other one the light in his mind, the glimmer in his eyes.
God, you hated him so much.
So why did you keep returning to him?
reblogs help more than likes!

♡ Melanie Martinez Prompt Writing Masterlist ♡
Note: This is for Akudama Drive and I may add or take away lyrics at some point depending on what I write. These are just what I already have done or planned. Feel free to make suggestions or tell me if there's a specific song you'd like to see! I use the same song with different lyrics at times, so don't be alarmed!
"We paint white roses red, each shade from, a different person's head" ♥️
A poem inspired by Alice in Wonderland where the reader stumbles upon a path previously painted red by Cutthroat.
"But you already bought a ticket and there's no turning back now." ♥️
Alice in Borderland inspired writing where Hacker and the reader have to play a carousel like roulette.
"Someone told me stay away from things that aren't yours"
Yandere headcanons for Hacker, Doctor, Cutthroat, and Courier
"Pretending everything's alright is detention." ♥️
Headcanons for what make the Akudama upset and how their s/o can cheer them up.
"If I share my toys will you let me stay?" ♥️
Scenarios for Cutthroat, Hacker, and Courier where they give or let the reader use one of their possessions
“Imperfect and human are we?” ♥️
Courier delivers the reader away from human traffickers
"And my one true love called me a monster." ♥️
Cutthroat kidnaps the reader, keeping them in a cage where he brings them jars of red
"But was he yours if he wanted me so bad?" ♥️
Courier and Hoodlum have a fling they can't even begin to explain. Parting their separate ways and finding themselves in their own relationships, one day Brawler pounds down Courier's door to inquire about an affair.
"Your skin is warm like an oven, your kiss is sugary sweet." ♥️
Fluff headcanons for the Akudama and their s/o's...more fluff than I am used to at least—
"Don't wanna leave this playdate with you" 💔
Headcanon like scenarios for a date
"I wanna break you in pieces."
"You pull me by my hair, so I don't go nowhere."
Yandere hcs with Hacker, Courier, and Cutthroat with a famous reader.
"I'm tired of being careful, tip toe, tryna keep the water warm. Let me, under your skin."
"Running through the parking lot, he chased me and he wouldn't stop."
"Can't you see? I only want the ones who never see me. But I'm happy, I love playing these games until my heart bleeds."
"You're filling up my senses, with empty calories"
“Tell me you love me, but you treat me like I'm never there.”
“You say the cruelest words, and yes, they break my heart.”
"I feel like I'm just missing, something whenever you leave."
"Don't let them see what goes down in the kitchen."
"I wish I had monopoly over your mind. I wish I didn't care all the time."
"Love me harder and don't be nice please."

Melanie Martinez songs and the meaning behind them
I’m not gonna put them in order, but since Melanie’s single out is coming out on Friday, I’ve seen tweets saying how Melanie “sexualises babies” which is 100% false. Let’s begin the meaning of her songs starting with Orange Juice. Orange Juice tackles a very serious issues which is eating disorder and bulimia. Nurse’s Office is bullying and tired of ditching school because of the people who are making ur school life a meeting.
Strawberry Short Cake is about sexualising young girls and how no one taught Boys not to touch them without consent. This song tackles sexual assault. The Principal is about powerful (mostly men) who abuse their power for their own gain but ignores the suffering of those around him especially his own country. Mrs Potatohead is about the expectation and what society is accepts as what is seen as beauty by getting cosmetic surgeries on yourself. Mrs Potatohead is a children’s toy where you can change her whatever you want. Show and Tell is about how we put celebrities on pedestal and treat them object for their own entertainment. The ones behind the scenes are putting them on display for their own greed.
Class Fight is about how women compete against each other especially in the music industry and how they fight over the same thing which is mainly attention from a boy. This is also how women tend to be mad at the other woman despite their partner was in the wrong as well. Wheels on the bus is about how there are people who who inappropriate behaviour in the public eye, but many chose to ignore it rather than confront it. Teacher’s Pet is about the romanticisation of the student/teacher relationships. This song also tackles down the power dynamics involving age difference and grooming. Drama Club is about pretending someone you’re not in order to avoid drama. You’re feel pressure to be someone else when you would rather be yourself and live your own life.
Lunchbox Friends is about toxic friends who only use you and judge for the things you do. They would talk to you in school but ignore you outside. This song is about rather having true friends who understand you. High school sweethearts is about wanting to have a partner who is honest and true loves you. It’s about wanting a committee relationship and hope that the relationship last forever then what you’ve experienced in the past. Recess is about letting go of harmful and toxic people since it’s important to improve your mental health. It’s also artists not having to time take a break because the fear of being replaced. Detention is about how nobody cares about how your feeling unless your making money and the mental torture of pretending to be happy. Dollhouse is about the perfect family outside but behind close doors is different. Dollhouse is a toy that are mainly used by girls who play the games like ‘mum and dad’ to vision their perfect family. Cry baby is a character that is based on Melanie Martinez herself. It’s about how people see cry baby as sensitive due to her empathy. Melanie described cry baby as “a child who experiences adult things”.
Sippy Cup is a story connected to dollhouse's lyrics "don't let them see what goes down in the kitchen". The song is about the lack of being willing to acknowledge reality. Carousel was song that was used for AHS 4th season, 'Freakshow'. The song is about how toxic one-sided relationships can be hoq trying to catch up to love but can't seem move forward. Alphabet Boy is a break up song where you used to date someone who thinks he was better than everyone and try to "teach" you things that you already know. Soap is about being vulnerable and being express deeper feelings such as love. Training Wheels is about moving on to the next step when being a committed relationship. Madhatter is a reference to fictional character from the alice in wonderland stories and some of the lyrics do make a reference in the books. It's about accepting who you are and not caring what anyone thinks even though people may describe you as 'crazy'.
Teddy Bear is about being in an abusive relationship and trying to figure out what went wrong. The person that you were in love was your whole world and even treated you right, but now he hurting you and even going as far as trying to kill you. Playdate is about being in love with someone who only sees you as just a friend so you act like you don't care either. Cake is about having a relationship with someone who just wants to play with your feelings. They just want one thing from you and believe that you're an esay person to manipulate. Fire Drill is focus on fake friends, childhood bullies and attention-seeking. Copy cat is about people in music industry who steals other artist's creation and act like it's their own.

A Comprehensive Guide to Melanie Martinez Alternatives
This is a months-late masterpost for anyone who enjoys the musical style and visual aesthetic of Melanie Martinez, but has misgivings about supporting her in light of her catastrophic horse shit handling of a rape accusation, or for anybody uncomfortable with her sexualized baby thing. This is NOT a claim that Melanie is ripping off or copying the following artists. Artistic influence is a beautiful thing, something to be encouraged. This is a list of alternatives for anyone who feels they need one. If you question her ability to give a truly satisfying, well-approached pop-surrealist analysis of cultural issues, or if want to find other musicians who are doing just that, come in!
I see a lot of masterlists of this nature suggesting alternatives to Melanie’s music. I’m making one of my own because I feel that some valuable artists have been left out, and hype/album rumours around Melanie seems to be stirring a little again with her Instagram updates. Common recs are Halsey, Marina, Lana, Lorde, and lesser-known female artists with a general indie/electro/bedroom pop sound to their music. I could take hours writing another post about why I love these artists, and you definitely should check them out! But I’m not going to get into them here. I’m specifically choosing artists who match very closely with Melanie’s artistic style (ie music box melodies, cute vocals, screaming, creepy-cute, smooth spooky production, cabaret vocals, and sugary pop hooks), so you can hopefully find new people to provide you with a similar listening experience. I’ll try to explain why somebody who was moved by Melanie’s music might love these artists.
Melanie’s artistic style fuses visual and thematic elements of creepy cute pop-surrealist artists (specifically Mark Ryden, who she’s named as a favorite, and Nicoletta Ceccoli), harajuku fashion, specifically lolita fashion (which draws inspiration from victorian and roccoco aesthetics), creepy doll horror stories (she likes the Chucky movies), American female led goth/punk bands, horror in general, dark cabaret (less visually evident, but her vocal style makes it crystal clear. Her voice also draws from jazz), aaand the 2012-ish explosion of pastel goth fashion which helped propel her to a semi-mainstream level of fame. She juxtaposes the cute and creepy in her production and lyrics as well, and uses this to talk about uncomfortable truths, dark subjects, and personal feelings.
Mark Ryden
Nicoletta Ceccoli
Ok, so going from there, these are some musical artists who were doing what Melanie Martinez did YEARS ago!
Emilie Autumn describes her music as “fairy pop” and “victoriandustrial,” including influences from cabaret, classical (she’s a classically trained violinist), pop, and electronic music. All 3 of her albums are concept albums that tell elaborate stories, and her writing is deeply personal to her own life. Her life shows feature backup dancers that are trained circus performers who also do burlesque, and there’s audience participation as well. She wrote a book called “The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls” accompanying her third album Fight Like A Girl. It’s a semi-biographical/psychological fiction thriller which includes tons of bonus material like her own drawings and diary entries.
Here is her song Swallow. It’s a good introduction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rlDFsExijo
Here’s Emilie covering Bohemian Rhapsody: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCcnubpAtYg
Her song Gothic Lolita strikes me as one example of everything Melanie could have been, but then wasn’t! It’s a gorgeously produced creepy pop song with dark jazz vocals about the sexualization of girlhood, culminating in violent revenge. It’s a very personal song about her experience as a csa survivor that took her a while to be able to perform live.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIFtG4JIaHE
Here’s a track from her first album, Enchant. It’s a concept album Emilie wrote from the perspective of a fairy character based on herself, and there’s an overarching story made up of strong individual songs with fairy, fairytale, love and fantasy themes.
How Strange is a song about loving yourself for your strangeness. The production is like...Destiny’s Child, but goth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nv6G305tKY&list=PLXqdmjQes3y4BhxiYgF5GMMo3zpQV5lGv&index=2
Hannah Fury describes her musical sound as “as a carousel in deep, warped space or a carnival underwater – something dense and ferocious with thin, shimmery tendrils shooting out from it in all directions." It has a haunting, dreamy quality, and her visuals include beautiful dresses, creepy dolls and puppets, occult and vintage motifs, and flowers. She has released six albums on her own label, MellowTraumatic Recordings. She also wrote a concept album for the novel “Wicked” before the Broadway musical even existed, no kidding.
Here is one of her album covers, inspired by a dream she had.
Hannah Fury isn’t well known. She didn’t do any big tours because she’s very shy. She’s an angel to her fans though, she even responded to me on facebook once, rip.
This song is called Carnival Justice (part II) and it’s a murder banger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSEz7o-BcpU
Never Look Back’s production is simple and beautiful. One of her best. If you like music boxes I have great news for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtU3IVhIwAk
Defenestration, another gem, similar to Carnival Justice. Dreamy and beautiful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbEuICTv_lw&list=RDAbEuICTv_lw&t=6
Jack Off Jill was a riotgrrrl band in the 90s founded and led by Jessicka Addams. They’re not active anymore, although they reunited for some shows in 2015. They merged riotgrrrl punk and feminist politics with creepy, dark themes. Their live shows involved shit like actual blood and candy getting thrown onstage & into the crowd. Jessicka was kind of an early icon for body positivity, too.
“We are all candy-covered on the outside, peel away the shell, and we’re rotten on the inside.” Lollirot fuckin slaps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmYZpsLD08k
Girlscout, ft sweet cute vocals and shrieking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0NnukrY0Jk
My Cat. Surreal, punk, cute vocals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6-ZccfRrIo
Strawberry Gashes is probably their best-known song. HUGE sensitive topic trigger warning on this one, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m6m9tMdca0
They have an album cover illustrated by Mark Ryden! (Tove Lo has a tattoo from it on her shoulder)
The Birthday Massacre is a gothic electronic/rock band that makes gorgeous, dramatic melodies with great beats. Their lead vocalist, Chibi, says their title “works well for the music [they’re] making. Sort of contrasty, you know? Birthday, and massacre. Light, and dark. Cute, and evil."
This is their very popular video for Blue. When I watched it in like 09 at like 14 it blew my baby mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp1FRKc24Zk
Looking Glass also has a visually amazing video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SREZ-ggSDjM
Divide sounds amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1ci7m6-H6Q
I’ve been told by friends that TBM live shows were their greatest ever concert experiences.
Kerli tends to make a lot of these lists, and for good reason. She’s sometimes described as bubble goth.
Walking On Air, one of her hits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXMeZwO2qZ0
Tea Party is a song she did for the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland Soundtrack. It’s hit or miss but if it’s not Melanie-ish i don’t know what the fuck is dude: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY58uPtAM68
Bonus Artists (aka artists that fit this list but I don’t know as much about)
Cindergarden
Hex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9A5Wtr_X9I
Playthings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPYWT2W0Db0
Nicole Dollanganger
Beautiful and Bad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2HttcXtiCg

Survey 6
Put your music player of choice on shuffle and list the first 10 songs - Betty by Taylor Swift - Broken by Lovelytheband - Make Me (Cry) by Noah Cyrus - One More Weekend by Against The Current - When We Were Young by Adele - Honestly by Gabbie Hanna - Carousel by Melanie Martinez -Brokenhearted by Karmin - Ashes by Celine Dion - Lover by Taylor Swift
If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Would you take anyone with you? - I’d love to go to NYC, because it’s a place I’ve always wanted to go and it seems so inspiring and lively there. I’d take my mom and sister with me.
What is your preferred writing implement? (eg. Blue pen, pencil, green pen) - Blue or black pen, and I like for my ink to feel super flowy and smooth.
Favourite month and why? - I love December because of Christmas time but I also really like May because the sun feels so much brighter and it’s starting to warm up.
Do you have connections to any celebrities (even minor)? List them. - When I was a kid, my dad’s cousin knew Michael J Fox.
Name 3 items you could pick up from where you are. - My phone, my notebook, and my headphones.
What brand logo is closest to you currently? - Asus (the computer I’m currently using. Don’t know about a “logo” tho. Just a brand name.)
Do you ever play board games or other non-computer games? Got any favourites? - YES. I’m obsessed with matching games on my phone. Right now I love My Home, Property Brothers, and Design Matters. I love them because they make me not think and then when you win levels you get to decorate your home which I find totally fun.
A musical artist you love that isn’t well known - Of Monsters and Men. I think they’re a little known, but not overly. One of my fav bands of all time.
A musical artist you love that is well known - Taylor Alison Swift
What is your desktop background currently? - A portrait of trees in the mist
Last person you talked to, and through what you talked to them - My mom and we talked in person.
First colour name you can think of that isn’t in the rainbow - White
What timekeeping devices are in the room you are currently in? - My phone, computer I’m currently using, and my switch.
What kind of headphones do you use? - The apple ones that came with my phone.
What musical artists have you seen perform live? - Lmao the Jonas Brothers when I was 10 and Marianas Trench when I was 15.
Does virginity matter to you? - Yes, but I don’t care what others choose to do.
What gaming consoles do you or your family own? - Switch, WiiU and PS4
What pets do you have? What are their names? - 2 Siamese cats, Archer and Misty.
What’s the best job you’ve ever had? - Sephora as a cashier, which I’m currently at. Obviously it’s not a dreamboat but they’ve treated me the best and I’m not totally miserable there.
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had? - Chapters. I feel like it had potential to be a good job, but I was in a really bad place so I feel like I didn’t perform to the best of my ability, but in saying that, they also lacked community there. I could go in and out of that store during my shift and no one would say hi or bye to me. I didn’t have any work friends, and I found management not that nice. Whereas at my job now, it has its flaws but I do feel like we’re kind of a family which I never would have expected because of my experience at chapters.
What magazines do you read, if any? - I don’t read magazines unless it’s an article about Taylor Swift because I love her lol
Inspiration behind your URL? - I have three blogs, so the inspiration for this one was just to the point; I do surveys. My main blog @autumnsletters was inspired because I love words and love letters and autumn so I just threw them together and then my Taylor Swift inspired blog where I geek out about Taylor was inspired by a lyric from a song called I Think He Knows. (@sixteenavenue)
Inspiration behind your blog title? - For this blog, it’s a spin on a Taylor Swift song called All You Had To Do Was Stay where I just inserted the word survey, not that smart lmao. On my main blog my title is “Give you my wild” which is from a song called Peace from Taylor, and then on my Taylor blog, it’s “You’re not my homeland anymore” which is from her song Exile. So I’m very Swiftian.
Favourite item of clothing? - My turtle neck sweater from Dynamite. (I bought three just in diff colours but my favourite is the red one.)
Are you friends with any exes? - I don’t have exes, but I always find it kinda weird when people are friends w their exes because I feel like you can’t come back to friendship once you’ve crossed the line but what do I know.
Name at least one book you loved as a child. - I’ll Love You Forever by Robert Munsch. (I think that’s the title but I’m not totally sure.)
What’s your native language? If that language has distinct regional variations, which variation? (eg. AU English, US English) - US English
What email service do you use? - Gmail
Is there anything hanging on the walls of the room you are currently in? - I’m in the family room so there’s a few things. Some canvas’s of random patterns, shelves, a nyc painting, and then a big rustic canvas of a bible scripture.
What’s your favourite number, and why? - 22, because of Taylor has a song called 22 (surprise surprise) and it’s also doubles and an even number which I like.
Earliest moment in your life you can remember? - I always have this random, very faint memory of being in this double stroller with my sister when I was probably 2 or 3 and she was in the seat in front of me and I was in the back and my parents were behind me talking and it was sunny outside.
What did you have for dinner yesterday? - Chinese!
How often do you brush your teeth? - Morning and night. Sometimes I escape to bed before brushing my teeth if i’m super tired but definitely every morning.
What’s your favourite candy/chocolate? - Maltesers
Have you had other blogs on Tumblr? Do you have any other blogs currently? - Yes, I talked about them just a few questions ago. I have this one, my main, and my Taylor inspired one lol. My main blog has gone through a series of phases throughout the years lol.
If you were suddenly really hungry, what would you choose to eat? - I like to go for easy to grab food. So bagels, muffins, cereal. Something super quick.
What fandoms would you consider yourself a part of? - Swiftie and A Court of Thorns and Roses fandom
If you could study anything, what would it be? - English and Communications, but I’ve always stayed away even though I’ve wanted to study those because I’m terrified of public speaking and I also feel like I’m not quite smart enough. Sad but true.
Do you use anything on your lips? (eg. Chapstick, gloss, balm, lipstick) - I like wearing Fresh watermelon lip balm when I’m not wearing makeup or I have my mask on. Generally when I have a full face of makeup on, I gravitate to lipsticks or lipstains.
How would you describe your sense of humour? - Dry/self deprecating and sarcastic.
What things annoy you more than anything else? - Kanye
What kind of position are you in at the moment? - I am sitting on my couch with my legs stretched out in front of me and resting on the coffee table.
Do you wear much jewellery? - I never wear jewelry but I’d like to start wearing necklaces and getting my ears pierced so I could wear earrings again.
Who is the leader of your country, currently? Any other levels of government with leaders? (State, region, province, county, district, municipality, etc) - Trudeau
Last 3 blogs on your dashboard, not including any of your own - I won’t name them, but one was a Taylor related blog, one was a writing blog, and another was a literature blog.
What do you carry your money in? - My wallet/debit card
Do you enjoy driving? Why or why not? - I don’t mind driving, but I’m obsessed with other people being angry at me for some reason so sometimes driving is stressful if I make a mistake or when people are behind me, I’m constantly checking my rear view mirror so they won’t think I’m bad at driving. It’s dumb, I know.
Longest drive you have ever been on? - When I was a kid and we drove to BC and stopped at literally every freaking town on the way there.
Furthest away from home you have ever been? - Victoria BC
How many times have you moved house? - Once and I was like four lol
What is on the floor of the room you’re currently in, not including furniture? - A blanket, suitcase that needs to be put away, some cords from the lamps, and a random canvas that hasn’t been hung up yet.
How many devices do you own which can access the internet? - Four, I think.
Is there is anything that is guaranteed to always make you happy? - Feeling creative and Taylor Swift music. Money, too lmao
Is there anything that always makes you sad? - Books where the two people pining for each other don’t get/stay together, getting super existential, seeing homeless people on the street, thinking about my dad who passed away.
What programs do you currently have open? - Tumblr and Word, because I’m avoiding writing because I don’t know what to say.
What do you associate the colour red with? - Taylor Swift lol. But also Christmas and passion.
Last strong smell you can remember smelling? - My garlic knots coming out of the oven <3
Last healthy thing you ate? - One (1) apple slice lmao
Do you drink tea or coffee, and how much per day? - Neither, both are gross.
What do you associate the colour blue with? - Sadness or gloom, usually.
How long is the closest ruler you can find? - I don’t think we have a ruler and if we do, it’s in a drawer upstairs somewhere and I don’t feel like digging for it.
What colour pants/skirt/etc are you currently wearing? - White sweats.
When was the last time you drank water? - Probably yesterday yikes.
How often do you clear your browser history? - Never.
Do you believe nude photos can be artistic, rather than erotic? - I guess it could be interpreted that way, but nude photos just kinda annoy me.
Ever written fanfiction for anything? - Yes and I’m not telling you for what.
Last formal event you attended - Oh, I don’t even know. It’s been YEARS. Probably my cousin’s wedding way back when in 2014.
If you had to move your birthday to another date, which one would you choose and why? - December 13 so I could have matching birthdays with Taylor Swift
Would you prefer to be at a beach or in the countryside? - Countryside. I hate the beach. The idea is nice, but I hate feeling hot and then I’m surrounded by people with nice bodies and I’ll just start to hate myself, and I never feel like I can wear the summer clothes I want to so it just makes me spiral.
Roughly how many people live in your town? - I have no clue. Thousands maybe.
Do you know anyone with the same birthday as you? - Yes. A girl I went to school with and also Jensen Ackles and Justin Bieber
Favourite place to shop? Can be a certain store or a place where there are multiple stores - Dynamite and Colourpop.
Do you have a smartphone? What kind? If you don’t, do you want one? - I have an iPhone 11 Pro.
What is your least favourite colour, and why? - Navy blue, because it’s ugly.
How do you spell grey/gray? - G R E Y
Go to your dashboard and describe the image shown in the radar section (below the “Find blogs” link) - N/A
What difference is there between how many followers you have, and the number of blogs you follow? - I have 1,374 followers and I follow 1,969 blogs.
How many posts do you have? - Good lord. Too many.
How many posts have you liked? - Not sure.
Do you post mainly reblogs, or your own content? - Mostly reblogs and occassionally I share my writing but I do this thing where I share my writing and I get 2 notes and then I start re reading my writing over and over until I hate it and delete it and fall down this spiral of shame.
Do you track any tags? - no
What time is it currently? - 6:17 pm
Is there anything you should be doing right now? - I’m supposed to be writing because I’m trying to turn it into a routine so I can be more successful with it, but I’m avoiding it because I get so overwhelmed with how little I’m writing/what I’m writing/not knowing what to say, etc.

Crybaby, the twisted fantasy world of Melanie Martinez
I discovered the music and visual artistry of miss Melanie Martinez two years ago, when I first heard her song “Dollhouse”. After watching the video to said masterpiece, I was hooked. Not only are her songs incredible lyrically, they have amazing beats and you find yourself singing along. The album “Crybaby” came out in August of 2015, and it took the music industry by storm with her creative, cohesive lyrics and story-lines in her videos. Each song from the original album has its’ own video, they are all intertwined, and they are all childlike with extremely dark undertones about love, hate, sex, self-image, drugs, and even murder. All of her music and videos can be found on YouTube, and I suggest you find them...Especially if you are into the macabre (which if you’re reading my blog, it’s safe to say that you are). The “Crybaby” album track-list goes as follows:
1. Cry Baby
2. Dollhouse
3. Sippy Cup
4. Carousel
5. Alphabet Boy
6. Soap
7. Training Wheels
8. Pity Party
9. Tag, You’re It
10. Milk and Cookies
11. Pacify Her
12. Mrs. Potato Head
13. Mad Hatter
These videos, if watched in order, tell the story of a troubled young girl named Cry Baby (Melanie’s alter ego). In the first video, “Cry Baby”, Cry is born to an alcoholic, abusive mother and virtually nonexistent, cheating father. In “Dollhouse”, You see the turbulent upbringing Cry was forced to endure, alongside her drug using older brother. “Sippy Cup” tells when it all unravels, with Cry’s mother killing her father and trying to poison Cry. “Carousel”, “Alphabet Boy”, “Soap” and “Training Wheels” are all about toxic relationships and the effects they can have on young girls mentally. “Pity Party” is about Cry Baby inviting all of her friends to her house for her birthday, and nobody shows up. Upset, Cry goes to the store to try and clear her head, and as she’s walking back she is kidnapped by Big Bad Wolf which is the premise of the “Tag, You’re It video. “Milk and Cookies” is where she is forced to bake for Big Bad, and she ends up poisoning him and escaping. She tries to steal another girl’s boyfriend in “Pacify Her”, but he ends up picking the other basic bitch instead. She starts to think that she needs to alter her own appearance to gain the attention of boys, but she quickly changes her mind after seeing what became of “Mrs. Potato Head”. “Mad Hatter” rounds off the album by letting everyone know that everyone goes bonkers eventually, and that’s perfectly okay. Very gruesome, visually stunning videos that any fan of the dark and unusual should take a gander at.
Sickeningly yours,
LivingDeadGrl93

a while back i said i was going to write out all the reasons i don't like melanie martinez and her music. well, here it is. everything is under the cut, but beware, this includes ableism along with abuse, suicide, and csa/rape mentions. also, uncensored slurs. be safe!
ill be going by songs, starting w the crybaby album, because i don't have much to say about melly herself. thatll be at the end. this is HEAVILY opinion based, so take it all w a grain of salt.
- crybaby is ok to me, nothing super terrible.
- dollhouse is the first song i don't like; it presents nothing new, because the whole "abuse/other bad things wrapped in a cute package" thing isn't a new concept. i also don't like the line "i see things that nobody else sees" because yes, while crybaby is a character, shes not said to be psychotic or have hallucinations, and i feel like that line was just thrown in to make her sound "crazy".
- sippy cup is like dollhouses terrible older sibling tbh. within the first verse, we have an ableist slur and plastic surgery shaming. real nice. also "silly girl, with silly boys" just rubs me The Wrong Way(tm). then theres what sounds like romantiziation of eating disorders, which as far as I know, mel doesnt suffer from (if youve heard otherwise, please send me an ask abt it!) sippy cup is basically saying "bad is still bad even if its presented in a good way!!!!" and its just...not good.
- i don't have any strong feelings about carousel. tbh, it has a nice tune and its actually one of the few decent songs on crybaby.
- confession time: i LOVE alphabet boy. if i had to pick a melanie song to listen to, itd be alphabet boy. its really catchy and fun to sing (plus im a slut for alliteration,) and i don't have many personal complaints. though i do detest the whole "baby" theme she has, esp in this song.
- soap is just...eh to me. i really don't like the causal suicide line as someone whos attempted So Many times, and the whole fake-deep thing just amounts to "i fucked up, i feel terrible".
- training wheels is a CLUSTERFUCK. as i said, i hate the "baby" theme, when mixed with adult stuff. this song is undoubtably about sex and relationships, but shes using things kids can relate to and its just...feels bad, scoob. "i love everything you do, when you call me fucking dumb for the stupid shit i do" is a one-two punch of emotional abuse implications and a slur. its just...all around bad.
- pity party is...decent. the "im laughing, im crying, it feels like im dying" lines are suspect to me, because they sound very bpd-ish and idk how i feel abt that.
- tag youre it is just. BAD. mel herself had the ADACITY to say its supposed to be ~whimiscal~, such with crybaby being kidnapped by the "big bad wolf". that may be the story, but putting a song about your childlike character being kidnapped and implied to be raped? is so fucked up.
- milk and cookies is also fucking terrible. "im fucking crazy, need my perscription filled" nice job implying all csa survivors are crazy, melly babe. gg.
- i dont have strong feelings abt pacify her. just that its some infantilizing bs as usual.
- mrs potato head is somewhat decent? i dont have strong feelings about it either
- mad hatter, and i know everyone and their mom have said this, is an ableism filled fucker. from the first lines, when i first heard it, i thought it was a harmless alice in wonderland inspired song. cute! and then the next lines played. im gonna go line by line and say what implications/statements bother me. "now i'm peeling the skin off my face" as someone who has pretty severe skin picking issues, this rubs me the wrong way. its basically just there to make crybaby ~weird~ "'cause i really hate being safe" oh, bc safe is SUCH a bad thing to be? this is just a bad line. "the normal, they make me afraid, the crazies, they make me feel sane" holy ableism batman! the normal? like psychotic people arent ~normal~? also, i love (sarcasm) how she says "the crazies". mel, honey, you have no grounds to say that. "i'm nuts, baby, i'm mad / craziest friend that you've ever had / you think i'm psycho, you think i'm gone / tell the psychiatrist something is wrong" do you think mel even thought about how fucking assholeish and downright insensitive she sounds abt mental illness right here? because she sounds like she did one (1) google search about psychosis and wrote down everything she could. "oh, off the bend, entirely bonkers / you like me best when i'm off my rocker / tell you a secret, i'm not alarmed / do what if i'm crazy? the best people are" okay, so, im 99% sure mel is NOT psychotic in the fucking slightest. hey babe, youre not ~crazy~ and you dont get to appropriate our oft reclaimed slurs. this is just. so insensitive and fucked up.
- cake isn't that bad. i find myself humming it a lot.
- teddy bear is decent as well, kinda edgy tho.
- now for the only one of her unreleased songs that bothers me: a million men. (major csa tw for that song) she wrote it after watching a documentuary about sex trafficking and csa, and while its not bad lyrically and a few lines are relatable to my csa survivor ass, but shes not a csa survivor, and i don't feel like she should have written and sang it.
- my personal problem with melanie is that she has her "crybaby" image all the time. shes tweeted saying she broke her nail trying to open her sippy cup, she poses half naked in bibs with a pacifier, etc. it just feels wrong to me, as i had my childhood and innocence and childhood things torn from me and sexualized very early on in life.
- so thats all! i may or may not update this if anything else comes up. thank you for reading this far.
(please be aware that i do not hate melanie as a person, and that i don't wish her any ill will. i just have problems with things shes done. and i am not saying you need to drop her music completely; just be critical and use your brains. and be respectful if someone says it bothers them!)
#melanie martinez#ableism //#abuse //#rape //#csa //#captain screaming#pls rb...validate my hour or work#*of#if you have any complaints im glad to hear them just be polite

mvs im kind of in love with (a wip)
#wyd by ikon - i love this one because i feel like with boy band mvs they often fall into the weird “6 boys (sometimes literally) chasing the same girl which proves most writers and directors and stuff are male because any woman would know that said girl would be scared for her life)” trope and this mv is the complete opposite, and portrays romance, or rather the cutesy precursor to romance (yes things aren't/shouldnt be inherently romantic but the vibe and interactions and overall feeling of the this song/mv hints at romance so well, i’m more than okay with it. it’s romantic, but this kind of romantic i support) so well. it’s rarely dramatic (or at least not the mv type of dramatic) and there’s not usually a GROUNDBREAKING moment where you confess your undying love for each other and live happily ever after. those kinds of stories can sometimes feel like more of a caricature of real life, whereas this feels like a snapshot of real life. it does an excellent job of showing those small little moments in the honey moon phase that lead up to romance. the characters are tiptoeing around each other and there’s nothing explicitly romantic but the combination of the music and visuals are enough; nothing needs to be explicitly romantic. one of my favourite things about mvs like this is that i don’t feel like i need to know the words theyre singing in order to understand. it just sort of speaks for itself in its own way and it portrays the emotions its trying to show so well since it doesnt solely rely on the lyrics. airplane (which i also really like, but not enough for it to make it on to the list “officially) does a similar thing, and i like that it has more of an arch than this one, but i do feel like looking up the lyrics for that made a lot more sense. at first i felt that the third wheeling/””friendzone”” (for the lack of a better word) thing felt a bit out of place and like they were trying to tell 2 different stories at once but now i feel like it’s just trying to portray a more fleshed out relationship
i am you, you are me by zico - this is my favourite music video of all time (i love the entirety of inu/run/the prologue etc more but that counts as more of a ‘mv series’ in my mind and you cant compare the two since they’re trying to achieve such different things). i feel overwhelmed by how much i love this mv every time i watch it. i genuinely can’t handle it and i have so many thoughts, starting to talk about it is kind of intimidating and i’ve been putting it off for ages. several months later: OK I REWATCHED IT LETS DO THIS. every time i watch this mv i am overwhelmed by how much i love it. every time im like “it cant be as good as i remember” but then it is. watching it just makes me feel so soft and warm and quiet. there’s nothing in the whole mv that feels out of place. i love the clothes, i love the hair, i love how natural everything feels. the set is phenomenal, it creates this strange, distant, otherworldly, completely independent little universe. the products that are perfectly lined up and the lights and the way colour and the flickering of the light/the tv is being used makes it feel a bit like a dream. the sparkle at the beginning also gives it a fairy tale kind of vibe. it just feels surreal, blending reality and fantasy in a really god way. the close ups of the people/the sets are being used in the perfect moments, it just creates this beautiful balance that just works so well together. there’s a lot going on, but it never feels like its too much. i love love l o v e the two characters interactions. the mv feels like a whole story that says soooo much without having to say anything at all. the exchanged looks and the gradual development and the interactions are just so perfect. its one of those things where things dont need to be explicitly romantic to be romantic, the combination of the visuals and the song just conveys this very specific feeling extremely well. i love the way they toe around each other and test each other a little bit, how it feels very careful and new at first but then gets more familiar. i love how they look at each other. i love the parts where they sit back to back and the camera spins around them. i love the part where you have a red close up of zico and she's layered above in blue. that could have looked strange but it works extremely well. everything in this mv feels like it happens or is there for a reason. it feels very intentional, but in a casual way, if that makes sense. i love the pace. i think this is partly caused by the fact that it looks like everything is just slightly slowed down, so it feels more relaxed and gives off this “we have all the time in the world” vibe, and also similar to the otherworldly feeling i mentioned earlier. i love how the sign went from opened/closed to opened/opened.i just dont even know how to say it but from 0:16-0:22, the way the perspectives are shown is just wonderful. i love the way its blurry for a split second at 0:12. i just love all the details. i love how this mv makes me feel. i want to live in this.
sentimental by winner - ngl i just love the way this is shot and the colours and the styling and chilled and lazy and careless atmosphere that the visuals and the song create, but also how it somehow shows this underlying frustration? looking up the lyrics helped with this one - i kinda guessed the whole “i miss u” thing because of the title and it has this bittersweetness to it? i just think that this is a great example of a series of seemingly borderline nonsensical/weird/”random” things (eg. the lobster, the bathtub, the guy dancing around with the cat or the guy riding the bike whilst lying on the floor) but it made sense, somehow? it felt like all those little details just showed the frustration and boredom and that they’re not quite sure what to do with themselves and how missing someone can drive you a little bit crazy. not to mention that the cat is a metaphor for “im going to die alone with 18 cats” and the bike thing reminds me a little bit of carousel by melanie martinez, in other words just feeling like you/a relationship is going nowhere. i also love the repeated use/portrayal of musical instruments (even/especially the ones where they go a bit crazy) because it feels like that shows working through your feelings through creativity and expressing yourself. and i also love the couple making out in random places because that’s essentially what it feels like when you like someone who likes someone else, them being with that person is always just sort of... there... i like the almost intruder-like portrayal of it here. i also love the separate rooms because they’re such a cool way to show the characters’ isolation and give them a bit of individuality, whilst still tying it all together with the band/kitchen sequences.
you’re the best by mamamoo - i like this one because it’s a great example of “we all like the same person but not in a way that suggests we want to kill them and wear their skin”. also, i love the song and the styling (mamamoo are the only people in this world that can pull off bootcut jeans) and the colours and the choreo and the set and the retro/vintagey vibe it all gives off and how the music video perfectly compliments the song and every things so bright and wonderful and i love the dorky moments and i love the scenes under the white sheet (one of the weirdest things ive said in a while) but theyre just so radiant and soft and i love the little animations, they’re so subtle it took me aaaages to see them and theyre so small and cute and fit really well (its not like lalaland floating galaxy dance that feels out of place) and its overall just such a wonderful experience to watch the mv and also i am in love with every single one of these girls
why so lonely by wonder girls - this one borders on including random things just for the sake of including random things, but it does it so well, i honestly dont care. you do need subs, i think? but its overall just so good that it doesnt matter too much. it just has this “i dont give a shit” in such a classy, controlled, badass lana del rey way. i watched this for the first time when it first came out, i think, about 9 months ago? and i still haven't stopped thinking/forgotten about it, simply because it was so unlike anything ive ever seen before and i honestly wasn’t even sure whether i like it or not. but i do. i love the blocky colors and the styling and the set and the actual format/size of the video and how you have the black borders on the side and how they all fit together perfectly to create this vintage/retro/strange different reality or its own world. the fact that they all perform/sing with this deadpan face and intense eye contact is also that perfect kind of strange that just goes really well with the entire mv. i love the ending and i love that it has this little arch to it, even if its kind of a crazy one, but i love that it’s not wannabe badass (like me lol) or cutesy, it’s just so fucking cool and well made in its own way.
fine by taeyeon this is the one. the mv that will be the death of me. i love how simple this was and that the way it was shot and the variety and the colours and how pretty it was in a soft, subtle way made it really really interesting or ’’’moving’’’’ i guess. (i always say the same thing, i know, but these are just the things i love about mvs??) the underlying theme/repeated use of photographs and that type of imagery to indicate the passing of time and memories was just stunning and perfect and added this feeling of nostalgia and missing someone/something and perfectly complimented the song. i love that this is another one that just feels really sincere and real and not dramatic at all, all the interactions between the couple are just really really cute and i love that one moment where she's just in the kitchen drinking a glass of water because (at least i think that) it’s this strange relatable feeling of being a bit lost and just thinking and wandering around the house and drinking a glass of water and thinking about stuff. it’s just overall wonderful.
never ever by got7 - this is just beautiful. that’s the only way to describe it. all the scenes are gorgeous and well balanced, if that makes sense? i love the colours and the contrast between the white and the bluish black with just enough vibrant colours to make it interesting and the smoke thing and the outfits its all just well rounded, somehow. id be OBSESSED with this band if they were on spotify
fxxk it by bigbang - this ones slightly different bc i saw the mv a while back and i thought it was alright but then i went to hoho’s k pop shop in london and picked up 2 like, credit card sized poster type bigbang things so i was like “guess i should give them another try” and i listened to more of their stuff and i really really really like this song (and a lot of their other songs, actually?? i had no idea that they’ve recently been making so much chilled music?? i guess i just kept thinking of fantastic baby when i heard bigbang) and i think its just another instance of the mv matching the song really well. and i love the styling and colors. i say that every time bUT JUST LOOK AT IT ITS SO COOL
crooked by g-dragon - i just kind of assumed ive already talked about this because its one of my favourites and it has been for like a year or something?side note before i rewatch it and give my detailed opinions: coup d’etat reminds me of a very specific couple of weeks of my life. it basically just feels like walking to the my best friend’s place in may or june in the evenings last year and its still light and really nice and warm and im wearing ripped jeans and doc martens and my leather jacket and me and my best friend hang out and watch a movie or walk around while we’re ”””””studying”””” and its just a. lot. but ANYWAY i just love this so much. i love the song and the music video s o m u c h. not just because i have this weird sentimental connection to it. i just feel like it conveys this feeling of helpless, reckless, careless, self destructive badassness so strongly that there is no doubt about it, regardless of the lyrics. i looked them up once and i forgot and im sure theyre good but i just really feel like the sound and the visuals combine so well that theyre a bonus rather than something you need to understand. it just makes me feel this strange sense of pity and it has that kind of underlying sense of sadness and despair and loneliness and not being sure what to do with yourself and not quite belonging but covering it all with this appearance of not caring even though you care so much at the same time and i just love it so much. all i know is that walking places whilst listening to g-dragon is a very unique, specific feeling that i love
she's a baby by zico - since i am you, you are me is basically my favourite mv ever i put off watching this for like 2 weeks. i was kinda nervous, ngl?? idek know why tbh? i guess i didnt want to be disappointed? but maaan. i was not disappointed. of course i dont like it as much as i am you, but i love love love that it has the same gentle pastel vibe and it just made me feel all soft inside and it made me smile and i just love it. im not gonna go on about how much i love the colors and the way its shot and stuff bc i say the same thing every time but jusT LOOK AT IT. its GORGEOUS.
rumor by kard - this looks cool as fuck on your phone, i really really like the song and just generally love that kard always does completely new, different stuff and does it super well. (i just love their music in general bc their lyrics mean soooo much to me whenever i feel A Lot)
neverland by holland - boy where to even start with this one. to begin with, i want to take the first 30 seconds and hang them up on my wall. tattoo them on my body. they’re just so quiet and pretty and perfect. i love the yellow neverland font. and just the contrast between the dark scenes where he’s alone and the brightness of the beach and the sky when they’re together???? SO damn good. the combination of the two makes the mv feel like it’s like a memory - when you think of someone you used to like, you think about all of it. it’s not just the good and it’s not just the bad, in a way, you’re brain smashes it all together. it just does such an excellent job of making you feel something. and the interactions between the two boys. they’re so cute and soft together but the mv also manages to give their relationship a bit of depth and it’s just great to watch. and their kiss might be my favourite “tv” kiss ever? i usually just find kisses in movies and tv shows (especially dramas) very “whatever” but this one was just so cute. they’re so cute. it’s just great. and i love the sound of the actual music so much? i’m usually not into soft music but this is actually so damn good????? im honestly just dying for holland to make more music

Having just finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, I felt inspired to make a playlist dedicated to Erin Morgenstern’s beautiful work.
And to pay proper tribute to the book in the form of music, I have tried to find songs with melodies and lyrics that really embodies the ‘feel’ of the book. I hope you guys listen to each song and really think of Le Cirque Des Reves when you hear they lyrics and melodies.

highkey really dislike melanie martinez && how she uses the trauma of people for ~shock factor aesthetic~ when she hasn't experienced it herself??? dollhouse is honestly really disgusting lmao
i’m….. very conflicted about this because i know people have mixed feelings on the whole album Crybaby, but I enjoyed it. I don’t think Melanie was using anything that many others artists don’t when they write lyrics. Not everything happens to the lyricist personally. It’s like writers. Many are inspired by those they know or stories they’ve heard. I’ve written my fair share of things from experiences I never had but heard from others or seen secondhand. I don’t understand what you think is disgusting about Dollhouse when the song is generally about a dysfunctional family that puts on a painted face when the curtains open. Yes, she might not have experienced this dysfunction and i can see where some could be uncomfortable who have experienced those things, but it’s not something foreign that people write about or sing about or even draw about. There’s songs, there’s movies, there’s drawings that depict what Dollhouse says. And if you think all those people experienced it firsthand, then that’s a bit naive yeah? I just don’t think it’s exploiting a situation for “shock value” on her end when her whole album is a concept album about a child growing up in a dysfunctional family home.
Crybaby opens the album with introducing the character which is crybaby herself. She is teased for her constant tears. Then Dollhouse is next where it depicts how her mom is an alcoholic, her dad is seeing a mistress, and her brother smokes weed in his room. They paint on their perfect faces for the public but when the curtains are closed they aren’t the perfect dolls everyone thinks they are. Sippy Cup talks about her mom finding her dad with the mistress and she murders them both. She drugs crybaby to help her lose the memory of it happening. Then as crybaby grows older she falls in love with a boy in the song Carousel. He always seems too distant from her and their relationship never connects because it keeps going around and around. Alphabet boy is about a boyfriend up and leaving her to get his music degree. He comes back to teach Crybaby how to write real music which offends her and she basically screams “fuck that i know how to write music. just because you have a degree doesn’t mean you can tell me how to write my ABCs (music).” Soap talks about Crybaby finding another boy to fall in love with. She wants to confess that she’s in love with him but overanalyzes it to the point where she keeps her mouth shut instead and says she would rather wash her mouth out with soap then confess. Training Wheels is the one real love song of the album. Crybaby finally finds a boy to settle down with and love. The training wheels is symbolism for not being afraid to fall and being ready to take that next step with someone. Pity Party piggybacks onto Training Wheels. Crybaby gets up the nerve to ask the boy she wants to take her training wheels off for to her party. He ends up not showing up. Crybaby keeps the party up for herself only since no one else came. Tag, You’re It is a very dark song that teeters on the edge of rape. When the predators see that crybaby is single they try to take advantage of her. The way Melanie sings this track gives crybaby a personification of fear. Milk & Cookies is a tale about her poisoning her abuser with milk & cookies- leaving him for dead. Pacify Her is the part of Crybaby’s story where she is so numb to love and pain that nothing fazes her anymore. She doesn’t think too much about things and the next man she wants to fall in love with, she ups and does it. She “pacifies” his girlfriend and steals him away. She seems to not care what anyone thinks about her anymore. Mrs. Potato Head is a song of realization for Crybaby. Mrs. Potato Head depicts a woman with many plastic surgeries. After crybaby has been in pain so many times she wonders if pain is beauty. She realizes it isn’t worth the money for those to give her compliments and maybe there is beauty in the darkness and pain of crybaby’s life experiences. And the album rounds out with Mad Hatter. Throughout Crybaby’s emotional rollercoaster of a life she accepts that being called Crybaby isn’t an insult to her. She loves who she is no matter if others deem her crazy. She might find love one day or maybe she doesn’t. Maybe crying a few hours a night is her thing. but all in all she’s done trying to chase that picture perfect image of alice everyone wants her to be and accepts that she is the mad hatter.
((this got super long jesus but tbh i really thought the concept behind the album was great but i know why it makes some uncomfortable. I just don’t think it should be as controversial and venomously hated as i’ve seen it be.))
