I do my absolute best to!!! The main reason I write fanfic is because I love the community around it! But sometimes I have to choose between responding to comments or working on the fic they commented on and I get the feeling that people would prefer that I write the fic rather than respond to their comments XD

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I’m not much of one for angsty endings, I love angsty beginnings/middles, but I like to end on hope. So that being said, I do have an incredibly angsty ending that I might write for worth living for i might also go the sappy happy ending i originally had in mind. i might do both. who knows.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

since I already answered the previous one with a fic that doesn’t have an actual ending, i’ll avoid saying how like home for this one since that technically does not have an ending. instead, i’ll say This Is Our Salvation a real world-ish drarry AU that’s kinda weird but is the second fic that came to mind and not enough people have read it to be able to contradict me so yeehaw baby

much less now that I moderate comments on how like home! but yeah I do still sometimes get it, and it’s a bummer

not often, but like I love the community around fanfic, and people are weird about commenting on and interacting with explicit fics so it’s just not what I gravitate towards with my extremely limited writing time these days

gonna combine these previous two into one because i once had someone use google translate to translate my fic into spanish and then posted it to wattpad (all without notifying me, as i request in my permissions statement on ao3) and what’s hilarious is spanish is the one language i’d be able to tell that it’s google translated rather than earnestly translated. i’ve had other people request to translate hlh to other languages, i gave them the go ahead, but as far as i can tell, nothing ever came of that

a couple times! the longest fic I co-wrote is no longer on my ao3 for various reasons, but I also worked with minryll on the aforementioned phoenixes are pests and @yes-i-am-happyaspie have a fic we’re co-writing that i SWEAR i will get back to!!!

i don’t like… go that hard for romantic ships.

i will finish all my wips i swear to god. i will be eighty fucking years old chipping away at these bitches if i must, but they WILL be finished.

introspection baby! unfortunately that means my characters are probably way more emotionally intelligent than they should be based on canon but such is life

I haven’t really run into this issue, but hypothetically I’d need to find a confident speaker of the language to give my dialogue a pass before I’d be willing to publish it

For clarification: Same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states right now based on the 2015 Supreme Court ruling. But, with the court standing as it is and with Roe being taken down, codifying same-sex marriage in law would mean that the Supreme Court would have a much, MUCH harder time stripping away the right. This is important. Marriage as a legal binding is critical to allowing spouses to visit each other in the hospital, make medical decisions, share assets, adopt and form families, and more. We need TEN Republicans to support the bill, so far there are FIVE likely supporters - we need AT LEAST FIVE MORE.

What is the muse that you write for the longest?

The muse I've written the longest that's currently on my blog would probably have to be 2im / Palindrome since they're both different versions of Zim from, well, Invader Zim and I've written Zim (along with different versions of him) on and off for years. Or it would maybe be Willow from Don't Starve? A while back I was an avid Willow roleplayer on another platform but quit roleplaying as her aside from small things until recently.

Though, in all honesty, it's kind of hard for me to say which came first since I believe I've been writing both since 2016-2017? Maybe one might have been earlier but it's difficult for me to remember.

What are the trends when it comes to writing that you adore?

I actually don't know a lot of roleplay trends when it comes to writing on Tumblr. I honestly don't tend to pay attention enough to really notice any.

However, if it counts, I will say I enjoy the trend of writing becoming more holiday based as specific holidays approach. I think its nice to see my mutuals be able to enjoy the holidays via writing their muses. I also used to love how on how an app I used to roleplay on it was a trend for people to start hosting group roleplays themed around the upcoming holiday and it'd be stuff as small as just a Christmas party roleplay to stuff more complex like Halloween themed murder mystery game / roleplay hybrid. It's just all always fun to participate in in my opinion and, back on that app, sometimes even host since I used to love hosting roleplaying "events".

Revisiting an old and familiar favorite for this week’s Monday Philm — Happiness (1998), dir. Todd Solondz.

I’ve been meaning to watch more Solondz movies and get familiar with his style so today I made myself a little sick on him tbh — three of his feature films (Welcome to the Dollhouse, Palindromes, Wiener-Dog) and all of his NYU short films, then tonight’s screening of Happiness (my first time watching it on DVD instead of a low quality torrent!). While that crash course was... a lot, it also very clearly defined his work. He has such an easily identifiable style, you may not like it, but no doubt you can recognize it within 30 seconds.

I honestly don’t like Solondz’s films very much, the humor isn’t my style and the fucked up stuff seems more cynical and outlandish for outlandishness’ sake than witty or valuable social commentary. But I’m glad I watched them to get a better sense of how Happiness fits in. It’s definitely my favorite of his films (heavily biased by PSH as Allen Mellencamp, obviously). But it’s also... bolder? than many of his other movies. If it’s going to go there, it goes there fully, recklessly, which I respect — it’s much more biting than Palindromes a few years later, for example. Which makes it funnier, too.

Happiness is also Solondz’s longest film, which is a benefit. Aside from maybe Dawn in Dollhouse, these are his strongest characters because you get a chance to really know them. Many of them are disgusting, despicable people, or sad and lonely, but we see them for what they are. And the cast is especially wonderful anyway, I really loved Camryn Manheim as Kristina (so sensitive) and Lara Flynn Boyle as Helen (so vain) this time around.

It’s impossible for me to be normal about Allen so I won’t even try. It feels way too reductive to call him “the incel blueprint,” a description I’ve heard before — he’s like every stereotype of the horny, nerdy, socially awkward computer guy yet he bodies it in a totally original, fleshed-out way. In one of his interviews with NPR, Phil talked about developing Allen’s voice and his physicality, picturing him as a guy just collapsing in on himself. His voice, his hunched-over posture, his gaze down, just totally withdrawn and therefore only reaching out in obscene ways. Allen can’t even keep up the charade over the phone after he’s called out. Maybe I’m projecting bc I know I could fix him 😌 but his weird little... partnership with Kristina is touching, and one of the “happiest” endings a Solondz character gets (Life During Wartime doesn’t exist to me.), no matter how brief.

At any rate, some of PSH’s best work — there’s an early moment in the therapist’s office where he does such a classic Phil gesture but otherwise he’s totally Allen (he looks like he constantly has a headache, brow furrowed and eyes screwed up with concern), one of his most iconic, well-remembered performances and rightfully so.

Trying to articulate how much I love Mr. Allen Mellencamp who works in data resources always comes out messy but he is just a weird guy who rocks <3 He seems like one of the strangest PSH characters to get mushy about but after a rough week it was just good to see him again. “I was pretty heavy, and I was afraid that people would laugh at me... Sometimes, acting is a really private thing that you do for the world.”

So I have this MARVELOUS template

And I thought :"Oh what about I do that with IwaOi, because why not !?" and um... Long Story short I decided to do more than IwaOi...

So for now I've only done my top 3 ships (because when I tell you I HAVE A FAV SHIP DYNAMIC) but I will do more :3

One of the other things I've noticed - now that I'm deeper in, I spend a lot less time "just trying to figure shit out." If I can't solve a problem in 15 minutes or so, I'm much more inclined to just read the solution and implement my own version, as opposed to sweating it out.

A few reasons for this: for one, most of the low-hanging fruit is gone. If you consider my knowledge as a set, and the stuff I can conceivably figure out in a reasonable amount of time as a "closure" of that set, the difference between the knowledge and the closure has shrunk a lot, and I have a much better sense of knowing when I'm missing something important.

For ex: today I ran into a palindromes problem that is only solvable if you know Manacher's O(n) algorithm for finding the longest palindrome in a string. I'm not going to rederive that shit in an hour, let's be real - I'm better off giving up, reading the solution, and committing it to memory.

The other issue is speed - I used to do at most one practice competition per day, which meant I didn't mind spending the full 90 minutes on it. But now that I'm so much faster, I might do 3 competitions, each taking 30 minutes, in a single day. Struggling with problems breaks the flow and sucks up time for practice, so it's better to take the L and move on.

10. How do you stay motivated to finish what you’ve started?

I mean the answer I don't, always! I have plenty of stories that I've started and never finished, or half-formed ideas and scenes that will probably never turn into a whole fic. I just tend not to post anything online until I'm 90% sure I'll be able to finish it. Knowing how a fic is going to end is what keeps me moving towards that ending - even if I don't know the exact details, I have to know stuff like "character X has to learn lesson Y" or "conflict X will be resolved" and of course, "these characters are going to get together and live happily ever after."

11. What’s your longest fanfic?

In Orbit, at 69,093 words (actually I was really annoyed because when I first finished posting it was 69.096 which is a lovely palindromic number, but then I had to fix a continuity error that removed three words).

48. What is your favorite sentence that you’ve used in a fanfic?

Ahhhhh I definitely can't pick just one but let me find a good one. Okay, this is actually two sentences from Always Has Been that I'm very happy with: "Kurt has seen this smile a million times, but it’s always striking - Sebastian smiles as though he knows a secret, as though he has all the power in the world. No wonder everyone orbits him, like desperate celestial bodies."

Town native - her family has been here for as long as anyone can remember

Known for smoking in the grocery store, championship sewing competitions, tea readings, knocking over china in the vintage shop 

Owner of Rise N’Dine, delightful off kilter bed and breakfast; good for a cozy weekend, a coffee and a peak into the large, eccletic library into the sitting room, and third in the united states for ownership of decorative plates 

She’s not quite a loner, but she drifts along in her own world - comes crashing to earth now and then, with varying results 

The Yelley’s are known for being odd, not that its a bad or unique thing in Pleasance; tea-readers and fortune tellers for the longest time, before they jumped into more traditional jobs - but their reputation, remains. They’re not sure who started it, but it’s family mandated, that everyones name be a palindrome 

Hannah’s never left Pleasance (beyond brief trips) and never plans to - Pleasance is her everything; she needs the town, and likes to think the feelings mutual 

believer and seeker of the unnatural - claims to have a loose friendship with the Alby Bride, loves and operates with the oddness. for whatever reason, she and her family are attune to the supernatural and other-wordly; if you’re a ghost hunter, she’s an uncanny resource if you wander into her b&b

Friendly, eternal optimist and eager to talk, though abrasive if her beliefs or stance on Pleasance lore is challenged - prone to screaming matches with the town’s young mayor. Her father passed three years ago fighting a fire, and she’s convinced, along with her mother, that he haunts the garage

Despite her cheery demeanour, she’s drawn to the dark and grizzly - keeps her own binder and running tab, of the seedy goings on (supernatural or otherwise)

3. Believers/Non-believers: she’s here to basically be an ally or a pain in your ass

Soured relationships - can go for romantic entanglements, friendships, family (!?! tbd). hannah’s heart is in the right place, but her distance, and her unwillingness to sometimes work with reality, can drive her and others apart; maybe she let them down, burned them, vice versa - gimme angst of any kind !!!  

5. The institute tin foil hatters - she tends to be a lone wolf as far as her beliefs, and so she’d gravitate towards those tho mirror her beliefs, that the institute is up to no good (and in her mind, trying to harness whatever power lays here)
