In my TD Wicked au, why tf do I think Heather should be Elphaba instead of Gwen??

Just a little post I thought I should make after going through the Wicked tag on here and thinking that I should probably explain myself when it comes to the character choices; and ultimately this is just for some fun character analysis and discourse.

Why I think Heather is more synonymous with Elphaba’s character than Gwen is

Yes, Gwen is a loner with rebellious tendencies; not to mention she was the outcast goth girl in season one. Not to mention she and Courtney are a popular Yuri ship in the same way Elphaba and Glinda are. Also, while we’re playing off of Courtney being Glinda, then that would make Duncan Fiyero, both of which are initially in a relationship with Courtney/Glinda, but then after some character development end up falling for Gwen/Elphaba. 

The problem I have with this is, simply, I am not a Gwuncan fan; I respect/tolerate it more than I did when I was a teenager, but I am still a Duncney Stan through and through, thus in my heart they are endgame. So, no, Gwen cannot be Elphaba, not while I’m the master of this au.

Now HEATHER on the other hand can still work just as well, if not better and here’s a little on why.

First off, Heather is mostly a villain throughout the show, but like Elphaba she wasn’t born evil; in fact they had a pretty similar upbringing all things considered.

Both characters were born to wealthy households, but were ostracized and bullied throughout their childhoods; Elphaba for being green and Heather for being overweight, and neither got the parental love that was deserved. Elphaba’s father blamed her for the death of her and Nessarose’s mother and for the latter being born paralyzed, and from how they act in the video call from home, both of Heather’s parents clearly communicate that they don’t miss her in the slightest and it is popularly consensus among the fandom that they were negligent/emotionally abusive to her growing up.

So we have two characters who were told nonstop growing that they are unable to love or be loved; unworthy, and the source of everyone’s problems around them. Eventually they are going to give in and start playing the part. Of course Elphaba was/is never truly evil and this is only propaganda employed by the Wizard, whereas Heather obviously starts out as a bully and gives other characters plenty of reason to hate/distrust her. However, she does lighten up as the show progresses, and a big parallel I see of her and Elphaba’s character is how when she tries to warn other contestants in World Tour about Alejandro’s true nature, everyone blows her off, just as how Elphaba has no chance at convincing the citizens of Oz of the Wizard’s lack of real power and hidden agenda, because they are already weary of her as it is, which makes it so easy for his cabinet to employ such a powerful smear campaign against her and make her out to be a ‘Wicked Witch.’

Now onto Elphaba x Fiyero….as I’ve said before under a previous post, Alejandro is DEFINITELY Fiyero. I’m still giddy from all their interactions when I watched the movie and I just love how they were able to flesh out the relationship a little more since they were not limited to a live stage production.

What does everyone at Shiz view Fiyero as? A perfect, charismatic prince who has it all; albeit also shallow and self-absorbed.

What do the other contestants view Alejandro as? Perfect, charismatic and charming; but it is made no secret to the audience how conceited he is.

Elphaba and Heather see right through their facades that neither these men are who they make themselves out to be with only one person seeing the real them from the get go.

2024 Wrapped!

I've seen these posts floating around the site, and they look so fun!

2024 was a big year for me, for fandom. I made so many new incredible friends on here and Discord, got more involved in events, and participated in a few fests. I also finished the longfic I'd started in September 2023, which I honestly still can't believe is finally going live in less than 48 hours.

My best estimate of how many words I wrote this year (I cut a long in editing, so this number will actually be higher) is somewhere around 370,000.

This post got extremely long, so I've put the majority of it under the cut. I don't write very often (on Tumblr, anyway) about my process, or consistently promote my work. So, hopefully y'all can forgive me for indulging this one time at the end of the year.

In order that I wrote them:

🎉 Spiral Dynamics (Draco/Harry; 21.1k words)

This one was for the Fellytone game on the Drarry Discord server! Based on this stunning art by @appleslightning, there's basically some Friends to Lovers hijinks with Draco and Harry, as Draco's probation officer retires 7 years into Draco's 10 year term, and Harry volunteers to take the spot 'as a favour' without having consulted Draco first. Drama Draco's dramatics ensue. The fic also inspired this by @maesterchill, and I am grinning and kicking my feet all over again looking at it. THESE TWO, I love them, your honour.

✨ The 'Two for the Triwizard' Trilogy (Draco/Harry; 3 fics totalling 9.3k words)

A Triwizard Tournament AU, but make it Drarry. This small series was also born on the Drarry Discord in a fun game of 'haha what if'.

In Fraternizing With the Enemy, Harry sees that Draco has come to the Yule Ball with a boy from Durmstrang (Volkov? Vikhrov?) and totally only chases his date off because said date is from a rival school. Harry and Draco end up dancing and chatting, and Harry ends his night feeling like a complete goner ensnared by Draco.

The Fourth Hostage skips to the Second Task, where Draco has replaced Ron as Harry's hostage at the bottom of the lake. Under weight afterward of Harry trying to figure out What's Going On between himself and Draco, Draco takes some initiative of his own to remind/inform Harry that he couldn't have been chosen as a hostage for the Task if he didn't agree to it. They get together. 🥹

Little Hangleton and Beyond is another skip. I wanted a happy ending not just for Draco and Harry, but Sirius and the Malfoys as well. I'll expand on this later when I reflect on my favourite themes and character propaganda, but the premise for this one is Lucius Malfoy changes the course of the graveyard scene following the Third Task. Draco's been writing home about his new boyfriend, and Lucius just...can't let anything happen to Harry, lol. So, Voldemort is immediately cast back into Undeath, Wormtail is so shocked that he's easily apprehended, Sirius' name is cleared, Harry goes to live with him, blah blah, Happily Ever After.

🎉 Full Indulgence (Tonks/Fleur/Bill; 14.7k words)

This was written for @hptransfest! The prompt was basically exploring Tonks' Metamorphmagus abilities during sex, and I'd had an idea rattling around for some Tonks/Fleur that I was very excited to finally have a chance to write. The premise was that in Half-Blood Prince, Tonks wasn't coming to the Burrow in the summer to get sympathy from Molly about her feelings for Remus. She was there to ogle Fleur, and then it turns out Fleur wants her, and Bill's cool with it, and Bill gets involved, etc. It was a great excuse to write 15k of very indulgent smut.

The thing I was most proud about in this fic was that (despite me using she/her pronouns in the paragraph above) I wrote 15k of 3rd person POV smut and didn't use one single personal pronoun for Tonks. It was a challenge, but so fun and validating for a character who identified as having no gender at all.

✨ Something About Malfoy (Draco/Harry; 3.2k words)

This fic spawned as a short and sweet AU from Draco Malfoy and the Descent of the Feathered Serpent (TL;DR, the longfic I'm just about to start posting, which is Order of the Phoenix from Draco's POV).

Some backstory: when I was rereading Spinners of Fate to start preparing for the sequel fic, I was hit with the realization about Draco that, my god, this kid is such an egg waiting to crack lmao. Folks who follow the Canon in Draconis Major series will see the Trans Draco Malfoy tag on 5th year's fic. I've read multiple metas here on tumblr about how Draco (among others) are 'fem-coded' in HP, and so it makes sense to me that Draco be some shade of genderqueer along with being gay lol. He's a mean girl, and a Mean Girl™. But also still a boy.

He ended up bigender in my head, keeping his name and pronouns while just sometimes Switching Things Up externally as he pleases. This ended up a big deal in Feathered Serpent, since Umbridge takes cue from Dumbledore's insistence that BCJ snuck into Hogwarts using Polyjuice Potion that magically changing a person's appearance ought to be banned (but of course, as it truly goes with her, the control is the real point).

ANYWAY, in this fic, I pretended for 3200 words that Voldemort never came back, therefore Umbridge never taught at Hogwarts, therefore Draco could come out as trans/bigender/genderqueer exactly when he felt like it, which coincided with the Gryffindor-Slytherin Quidditch match. Poor Harry, he was not prepared for that.

🎉 Twilight Eternal (Draco/Harry; 23.9k words)

This was written for @hd-tarot, and was another fic that I had an idea rattling around for, looking for an excuse to write lol. Those who've been following me for a long time and have the sharpest of memories might remember this post from a year ago. There was an ask game regarding names of WIPs, and @omgkatsudonplease asked me about this one. I finally got to write it!!!

It's also very interesting to me to reread that ask and see how differently the fic wound up. I hadn't conceived yet that Hermione was involved, or that she and Draco were Unspeakables. I also thought it would be a Getting Together fic with Draco and Harry, but ended up with them already established in a relationship. I'm very happy with it, even if it (comparatively) didn't get much love.

🎉 WARNING: May Contain Pollen (Draco/Harry; 2.9k words)

Honestly, this is basically a crackfic lol. It started as a joke: what if there was sex pollen, but either Draco or Harry turns out to be allergic to it? And uh, yeah! That's the plot!

🚧 Beyond the Scuttling Void (Harry & Sirius, eventual Draco/Harry; 54.6k words and ongoing)

A crossover fic, using the Veil in the Department of Mysteries as means for Sirius, Harry, and Draco to isekai into another world! Surely this has never been done before! (heavy /s lmao)

2024 has been a year of getting back to fandom roots for me. One of the things I wanted to unlearn was the 'I must complete my fics before I begin posting them' mentality. This fic, since the crossover material (Skyrim) is an open world RPG, basically translates to Harry, Draco, and Sirius being able to do whatever they want. Well, Sirius ended up the prophesied Hero from the game lol. But since Harry follows Sirius through the Veil after a ten year long timejump (canon-based space/time shenanigans in Elder Scrolls/Skryim lore) the Main Quest™ is already dealt with, and Sirius is just a happily-married hero with a house he built himself, tons of friends, and two sons who he took in as orphans. Harry has to reckon a lot with feeling like a bag of dicks for asking Sirius to help him get home once they're reunited.

It's been really fun writing this fic as Harry learns how to navigate a world where magic is different, and which is basically medieval Scandinavia with dragons, elves, vampires, a pantheon of trickster gods, and spiders the size of horses lol. The lore runs deep, and Harry keenly investigates it for means to reverse his having been dumped here through the Veil. As far as I've posted, Draco hasn't shown up yet. Harry doesn't even know he's there, and likewise: Draco has no idea Harry and Sirius are there. I know where Draco is, and look forward to the three of them rolling up together like the pointing Spiderman meme. What I can say about Draco at the current point of posting is that at least now....he is safe, haha. He had to grow up very quickly all of a sudden to have made that happen for himself. He's Seen Some Shit.

So what were the most common themes in my work this year?

Established Draco/Harry. As seen in: Little Hangleton and Beyond, Twilight Eternal, and WARNING: May Contain Pollen.

I feel that for me, shifting from more Getting Together fics to Established Draco/Harry fics is a natural progression as I write more Drarry fics. Mutual pining, Draco and Harry pursuing each other, and proving themselves to each other are fun, but so is skipping all of that and letting them focus on whatever's threatening their happiness in the fic lol. Or, like Little Hangleton and Beyond, just letting them have their happiness while the rest of the plot ties up.

2. Sirius & Harry, and Harry living with Sirius. As seen in: Little Hangleton and Beyond, Something About Malfoy, and Beyond the Scuttling Void.

I really, really wish that Sirius and Harry had gotten the godfather-godson happy ending they deserved in canon. This is one of the greatest tragedies of the Harry Potter series to me (does that mean I would've trusted JKR to write it any other way? Ummm no lol). So, where possible, I set them up in a post-Goblet of Fire AU to have a happy future to look forward to.

As for Beyond the Scuttling Void, let's just say it's my post-Order of the Phoenix coping mechanism. Sirius isn't dead! He's just gone to be a hero and kill the big bad dragon. He's married and everything! He's fine, guys. Don't worry about it.

3. Lucius being a good dad for Draco. As seen in: Spiral Dynamics, the Two for the Triwizard trilogy, Something About Malfoy, and Twilight Eternal.

OKAY, this is my self-confessed delusion, my fight against the tide, and my drowned out truth lol. I love Lucius Malfoy. I hate when he's abusive to Draco, and I've just gotten numb to the prospect of him being killed off, in Azkaban, or...whatever...in post-war Drarry fic. I love when Lucius remains a hurdle to Harry because Draco, uh, kind of really loves and admires his dad.

There was a tumblr post about power fantasies that really spoke to me. Essentially, for some people killing/beating up the bad guy is the power fantasy. For some, love changing them. For some, the bad guy getting to run wild to their full potential. For me, Lucius is #2. I love writing him as a good dad, or at least trying his best through the war years, and having to reckon/own up with his failures in the end if he wants to restore full trust from Draco. I love when he learns something about Draco and will rewrite his entire worldview to suit his beloved only child (Draco & Narcissa based morality, rather than pureblood supremacy morality - although these certainly overlap a lot of the time). And, honestly? I think I love it (and him) so much because he's so underappreciated in Drarry fandom and fic. I have to feed myself on this one, guys.

So...this was 2024 for me! And I didn't even wax lyrically about the 291,000 word behemoth that is Descent of the Feathered Serpent lol. It was a very busy year for me, and fandom (especially all the new friends/acquaintances I made) helped me through some trying RL stuff. Your AU has done what only the best can and that is made me appreciate the original art in a different light.

Because normally in Shrek I don't understand Charming at ALL. He's loud, entitled, obnoxious, and just a generally a very unpleasant person. I can't see him as anything but a villain, at best a pretty face for someone worse to hide behind.

But Princess Charming turns it from "ugh why the hell is everyone so enamored with this guy?" to "I am not immune to propaganda" and I think I get it now

It is SO REWARDING to hear, you don't even know it!!!

I think the problem here is me, hahah. Even I am not immune to Princess Charming's well... charm.

I, like you, am also very much not of a fan of the original Prince Charming, so when the idea of Princess Charming first came to me, I thought it would just be a funny ha-ha character. Right up until I actually sat down to draw her. She had me ready to risk it all for her after the very first sketch.

After that, I couldn't help myself, but give her an actual story to tell, because I loved her so much and saw greatness in her. I wanted to see the roots of her flaws, see her motivations for her devious acts. And I also wanted to find some positive sides to her. And thus her lore kept expanding until it became what it is today. I gave her a lot of my own struggles (I'm very sorry btw, my baby Charming), explained some things through my own experiences. She's very much her own alive and complex woman today.

I think my biggest accomplishment with her - apart from making literally everyone fall in love with her - is giving her an actual character arc. It starts in Shrek 2, where her backstory and behavior is being presented and partly explained. But then it continues into Shrek The Third where she gets to find her own purpose outside of the inflicted by her mom and society one, fight her demons and go through personal growth and transformation. Love that for her 💖

Don't get me wrong, she's still spoiled and arrogant and whatnot, but in a more nuanced way. She's not being herself or making decisions out of nowhere. All of her actions have places from which they come.

Welp. I really am not sure how all of the above translates into art, but somehow I managed to put the love that I feel into this little drawn woman from my nogging.

(A sort of idea for the Adamsapple Little Mermaid AU)

*Adam sobbed as he clutched the stone carving of the face of the human King named Lucifer, somehow Sera had found out about the collection of human objects Adam had and proceeded to destroy them including the statue of Lucifer that his childhood friend Eve helped him find, his mother had been strict with him, but this was cruel, just then a merman with a blood red tail and hair the same color swam up to him*

Alastor: Poor sweet prince, you deserve so much better than what life has given to you.

*Adam looked up, if he hadn’t been under the ocean his would have had tears streaming down his face*

Adam: Who are you?

Alastor: My name is Alastor, I work for great Lilith.

Eve: You mean the evil sea witch.

Alastor: Propaganda created by Queen Sera, Lilith just wants to help poor unfortunate souls like our dear Prince.

*Alastor had an unnatural smile with yellow fangs, but all Adam could think about was being a human, exploring the surface world and being with the man he loved*

Adam: Please take me to Lilith.

*Adam followed Alastor while Eve followed Adam begging him to go back, but Adam was resolved to get what he always wanted, he was lead to a dark castle that had a garden filled with polyps, some reaching up and trying to grab Adam and the sounds of screaming could be heard, once inside Adam was greeted by a slim and elegant woman with long blonde hair and violet eyes, her lower half was like an octopus making it look like she was wearing an elegant gown*

Lilith: Prince Adam, my poor unfortunate soul has come to Lilith for help. What do you desire?

*Lilith already knew what Adam wanted because she had Alastor spy on him, but she wasn’t going to say that*

Adam: Recently I saved a human King named Lucifer and I have fallen in love with him. I want to be a human so I can get him to love me too and marry him.

*Lilith smiled, it was so ironic that Adam fell in love with her ex husband, he was indeed very attractive, but she got bored of him after she had his child*

Lilith: I can create a spell that will let you be human for three days and if you can get that handsome King to give you a kiss of true love, you will be human forever.

Adam: What happens if I fail.

*Lilith led him to a window so she could see her garden of polyps*

Lilith: You will belong to me and become part of my lovely garden.

*Adam’s eyes widened in horror thinking of his body being transformed into one of the ugly polyps that Lilith used for her garden*

Lilith: But I don’t think we need to worry, you are quite the catch, it won’t take long to win the heart of this Lucifer. We just need to talk about the price.

Eve: I knew that this would be too good to be true, we should go home.

Adam: What is the price?

Lilith: Your voice.

*Lilith touched Adam’s throat*

Adam: Without my voice how will I tell him how much I love him?

Lilith: Don’t underestimate the power of body language.

Eve: Don’t accept the deal, please.

*Adam just thought of having Lucifer love and the ability to be human which he wanted long before he knew who Lucifer was*

Adam: I accept the offer.

*Lilith smiled as she made a contract appear and had Adam sign it in his own blood, she then started to make the concoction that would remove Adam’s voice and make him human, Adam was then told to sing, Adam started to sing as a pair of hands emerged from Lilith’s cauldron and shoved themselves down Adam’s throat, it hurt so much as a glowing orb that was Adam’s voice was his voice, once the voice was stored in Lilith’s necklace, the hands pulled Adam towards the cauldron so he was right above it, the pain to extract his voice was nothing compared to this, it felt like his lower half was being cut in half, Eve watched in horror as Adam’s gold tail transformed into a pair of human legs, Adam clutched his throat now that he couldn’t breathe under water and Eve grabbed him and started to swim towards the surface, along the way they ran into Lute who helped Eve in getting Adam to the surface, suddenly Adam could breathe again and he smiled thinking of how he would soon be with Lucifer*

(In this story Eve will be a mermaid who was Adam’s childhood friend and this fic is 100% Adamsapple)

thinking about how soren in the king of daein au might interact with his uncles

so, because in this universe ashnard decided to keep soren around to groom into his heir, almedha never called to rajaion to save him, meaning that he was never warped into ashnard’s mount and therefore is still acting as crown prince of goldoa. seeing as he and kurthnaga are both goldoan princes and laguz, there probably weren’t any direct interactions during ashnard’s reign— at least, there were no official records of contact between the crown prince of daein and the princes of goldoa.

anyway, i’m imagining something like almedha sneaking soren out of daein keep every once in a while to meet with them because she wants him to learn his heritage and come to a better understanding of laguz as a whole, outside of the propaganda taught to daeins. a version of soren who is fully aware of his branded nature and his black dragon blood and what it entails, but who learned of this through family who still loved him above all else, versus canon soren having to learn it in the face of years of abuse by the world would be interesting.

i guess that could be a reason for why i’m envisioning soren as a little more calm and level-headed in this au even though he grew up directly under ashnard’s thumb. despite ashnard’s attempts to mold him into a pawn to be controlled, soren having support systems in both his mother’s side of the family as well as ike, mist, and their parents could help him be a bit more well-adjusted.

Prey have become rare and therefore are prized possessions. They've all been hunted and sold into slavery until, eventually, they end up safe in a predator’s belly. It's their sole purpose and what they're meant for, at least that's the propaganda that predators feed them.

Only the royals rolling in wealth can afford such feasts. Jungkook is the richest predator, a massively over-fed wolf, because he gets anything and everything that he wants. It's a perk of being King.

Jimin is so sweet and dumb and plump. A happy little slave to the King on high. He's so lucky to be owned by such a wealthy predator.

Jungkook is overly indulgent to his dumb bunny. So doting. Constantly pampering Jimin. Despite his royal status, Jungkook always keeps Jimin in his grasp so no one can steal what is rightfully his. Jungkook isn't a fool to the hungry stares directed at his tubby prey. He only made that mistake once, when he was a prince, haughty and proud. He had paraded his prey at the time with abandon. All it took was for one hungry predator and Jungkook never made the same mistake again. Now, his meal is safely collared and leashed, content to live right on his lap as Jungkook dotes on him and feels the soft chub slowly thicken in his hands.

It's such a honor to be the high-King's meal. Jimin is treated like a princess himself and is kept blissfully unaware, only spoiled by everyone in the court. All of the rich predators compliment their King on Jimin's size as he grows, like the sweet, fattened pet that he is.

Jimin is fed cake and sweets at parties, kept happy and dumb. Jungkook shows off to his ostentatious court of predators by stuffing the bunny until he's heavy and round, lazy and forced to rest. After each party that Jungkook hosts just to fatten his prey in front of everyone, he's rewarded with the currency of lust-filled admiration for his treat. His plump dessert. Lush and luxerious, destined to feed the King's gut. The predators drool as their King's prized prey slowly rounds and fattens, getting more dumb and delicious by the day.

Jungkook smirks as predators offer him gold and jewels for his favor, using the prey to further his own wealth. He purrs at the many gifts rained down upon him, with the fattened bunny kept in his claws. Jimin is destined to only feed the King, and there's nothing that the greedy lords and ladies can do about it, unless they want to experience the high-King's anger. Just like Jungkook, they've learned their lesson. All it took was that one time for them to all understand that staying in the King's favor meant security. They're all slaves to him, in a way. Societal slaves to the rich, cunning tyrant.

It's such a boast of status, a display of wealth to fatten a prey so heavily, only to eat them and devour all of their riches. Jungkook keeps Jimin much longer because of it. It's in fashion to test the limits of how big a prey can be grown. Stretch marks and ripped skin are a thing of beauty.

Jungkook's dumb slave can barely move by the time he's buttered and sprinkled with sugar, just how the King likes. The immobile prey permanently lounges against the large King's belly and listens to the greedy gurgles that he don't know to associate with doomed hunger.

Jimin doesn't have anything to worry about. His predator takes such good care of him! He's such a lucky bun. Spoiled and clearly adored by everyone. The richest, fattest jewel in the whole kingdom, Jungkook says. Perfect in every way. His favorite slave. His prized possession...

Until Jungkook decides that his prey is better-off settled deep inside of his hungry gut, of course.

First Prince Week 2024 - Day 6 - Sour Soulmates

Before Alex's twenty-first birthday, he fully doesn't like the idea of soulmates, mainly because he's been burned before, but what he doesn't know is that he's already found his soulmate, he just doesn't know it, yet.

Alex never really liked the concept of soulmates.  It might be because he doesn’t like the idea of some unknown entity deciding his fate instead of getting to make his own choices, but ever since June’s twenty-first birthday and discovering that the girl he’d been sort of seeing (and really starting to like) on the campaign trail (despite still being in high school, he did campaign things every weekend) was his sister’s soulmate instead of his, he’d hated it.

It didn’t help that Liam wasn’t his soulmate either as discovered about six months ago. 

He’d been hoping that someone he already had a connection with would be his soulmate because he hated the idea of someone being all excited for their soulmate to be “the first son” and only care about his celebrity status rather than him.  He didn’t want whoever it was to have preconceived notions about him before ever meeting and getting to know him.

He doesn’t want that.  He wants someone that likes him for him and not because of his status (which is temporary at best).

It's why he’d been disappointed when June’s soulmate’s name appeared on her wrist as his girlfriend’s name (Nora) and why he had hoped that maybe fooling around with Liam senior year was a sign, even if they had grown apart with him in D.C., only to be even more disappointed when Liam’s mark read Spencer Haynes.

It's part of why he tried to hold himself back from Henry.  He always felt this connection with him since they first met despite the terrible first meeting – it was then that Alex figured whatever thread of connection he was feeling was wrong and made them enemies until cakegate. 

Once he realized the misunderstanding and they became actual friends, Alex could feel the hope building… especially when June was so excited for him, something about them being a match (or so she thinks), but Alex knows better.

Henry’s a year older, so he already knows his soulmate’s name.  It would be written on his wrist just like everyone else’s and no matter how much Alex may be secretly hoping that it was his, he knew it couldn’t be… Henry would’ve told him, right?

So, as his twenty-first birthday approaches, Alex is determined to ignore it.  All he has to do is just pretend like it’s any other day and when he’s ready he’ll look at it, but he doesn’t want confirmation that it’s not Henry because he wants to enjoy this thing with Henry for a little while longer.

Henry, on the other hand, appears determined to see Alex on his birthday.

First, he’d asked about if Alex was going to some gala.  When Alex said no, he then asked about Alex just visiting for a “international relations” propaganda so they could see each other – Alex had teased him about not getting enough dick to which Henry had replied You’re more than just your dick, Alex.

Alex refused to acknowledge the flush that spread across his cheek at Henry thinking he’s more than just a dick to blow. 

Unfortunately, Alex had another engagement with the campaign trail in NYC and was surprised when Henry texted that he'd arranged business in New York and would be seeing him the night before his birthday and the entire day of if Alex was amenable to that.

Alex was not going to turn Henry down, which is why they met in front of the Met and quickly disappeared to be alone as soon as they could.

Hours later, Alex is being treated to a bubble bath with Henry.  He’d gone all out to pamper Alex and he can’t resist saying, “Man, I feel like I’m the prince here, getting pampered.”

Henry hums.  “Well, it’s a special day.  You deserve the best.”

Alex hums.  “Technically, my birthday’s tomorrow.”

“Yes, and tomorrow’s going to be even better than today,” Henry states with assurance.  “It’s a special birthday.”

Alex shrugs.   “I’ve been drinking illegally for ages… being twenty-one wouldn’t change much…”

Henry makes a strange sound that Alex can’t decipher, before saying, “I was referring to you receiving your soulmate mark.”

Alex huffs.  “Everyone makes such a big deal about soulmates but honestly, fate shouldn’t get to decide who I’m destined to be with.  And just because there’s someone out there with my name on their wrist doesn’t mean squat.  They’re probably some fan that will be thrilled to have me but not really care about me just who I am.”

When Henry makes some sort of strangled sound, Alex figures that he hit the nail on the head for Henry’s soulmate, hence why Henry wasn’t with his soulmate.

Alex shifts so he could look at Henry in the face.

“I mean, you get it, right?  It’s probably worse for you because you didn’t suddenly become famous at seventeen, you already were, so all along you probably figured that would be your terrible fate… I mean, otherwise you’d be with your soulmate living happily ever after –”

“Who says I’m not?”

Alex stops speaking.  Is Henry saying that he’s been cheating on his soulmate with Alex?

“You – I thought you said you weren’t seeing anyone else?”

“I’m not,” Henry states.  “I’ve been seeing only you since the New Year.”

Confused, Alex asks, “But then…”

The clock strikes midnight and Henry takes Alex’s lapse in words to turn Alex left hand over and reveal the words that are being written across his wrist.

Alex’s jaw drops.  He’s so confused but also elated, everything he’d been trying to hide behind since Henry first kissed him to protect himself when Henry eventually left because they weren’t soulmates… it didn’t matter because … Henry is his soulmate.

He wants to kiss him; he wants to celebrate but he also wants to know why the hell Henry had hidden this from him.

“You… why didn’t you say something?  You’ve known for a year.”

Henry gives him a soft, slightly heartbroken look. 

“Alex, you hated me up until six months ago… I didn’t know why until we were forced to play nice and then… I thought – at least my soulmate didn’t hate me anymore.  I would take just getting to be friends with you … I couldn’t stand the thought of forcing it just because some unknown entity said we’re soulmates and then, I couldn’t take it anymore and kissed you and you kissed me back and I - you – I could have told you but every time I’ve brought it up you’ve been rather sour about it and I didn’t think it was the right time so I let it go but it’s your birthday and I knew that my name would appear…”

“And you wanted to be with me when it did.”

It’s not a question.  Alex knows that’s why Henry’s pushed to see him this weekend.  Henry wanted to know how Alex felt about being his soulmate the moment that he discovered it.

He pushes forward and kisses him, deeply but quickly. 

“I can’t imagine how hard it’s been for you to think I hated you and hold yourself back because I said ‘friends with blowjobs’ since I figured you had a different soulmate and I didn’t want to get attached, but I’m going to make it up to you, baby.  Be the best soulmate ever.”

Henry gives him a soft smile.  “You don’t have to make anything up to me, love.  Fate or destiny or whatever unknown entity out there that decided that we were fated to be together knew what it was doing, and we just took a detour …”

“… our story was determined to be enemies to lovers rather than friends to lovers,” Alex teases. 

Henry smiles at him, pulling him into his lap so he’s straddling Henry and facing him.  “Does this mean that you’re no longer my sour soulmate?”

“Sour soulmate?” Alex chuckles.

“Yes, I’ve been calling you that since your name appeared on my wrist.  First, due to the fact that I had no idea why you hated me.  Then, when we were forced to be friends due to cakegate and you were super sour until you asked for number and teased about ‘no booty calls’…”

Alex laughs.  “Now I understand why you reacted like you were strangled or something.  Not only did you fancy me, but at that point, you already knew I was destined to be with you.”

Henry flushes and nods.  “Yes, and you, at that point, barely liked me.  So, I was attempting to try and keep myself under control.”

“Must’ve been hard,” Alex offers, running his hand down Henry’s chest.  “Crushing on me, knowing I’m your sour soulmate and also knowing that I … was getting over my confusing rivalry with you and not in a place for more.”

Henry hums and nods, “But you’re worth it, love.  You just needed a little more time.  At least we were already together and it’s not that much of a shock to you as it was to me.”

Alex hums.  “Would you have chosen me if – if fate hadn’t declared me yours?”

Henry laughs.  “Alex, I’ve felt a connection to you since we met, and I was … afraid.  The queen took the first opportunity that she could to suggest that I was wrong about my interests and my soulmate’s name would prove her right, but I knew that if I went there with you… I wouldn’t be able to let you go and if you weren’t my soulmate, the queen would rain terror on both of us…”

Alex smiles, “So, you didn’t kiss me because you knew …”

“… I kissed you because I always wanted to, and I felt safe enough to do it – you’re my soulmate and there’s nothing that the queen can do about that.”

“Good.”

The next kiss turns passionate and could easily become something more if not for Alex’s phone going off.  They would ignore it, but it’s ringing for more than a text.

Alex huffs as he looks at his phone and sees June written across it.

“She’s been more excited about my soulmate mark than I have been,” Alex admits.  “I’ve been sour about soulmates for a long time.”

Partially because she feels guilty that Alex had been starting to feel something for Nora when June ‘swooped in to steal her’, which wasn’t her fault, but Alex was seventeen and more than a little sour at the thought that it had to be his girlfriend of all people.  But also, because she really wants him to find his happily ever after and she secretly (or not-so-secretly) thinks it’s Henry and wants to be right.

“You should answer it,” Henry offers.  “Tell her you’re celebrating your birthday with your soulmate.  She’ll be thrilled – I know Bea has been just waiting to squeal excitedly about it all but keeping it a secret for me.”

Alex grins.  He loves the idea of June and Bea just squealing about him and Henry all excitedly – they are their brother’s biggest fans.  “Should I tell her that we’re naked, too?”

“I think she can piece that together.”

Alex laughs.  “Yes, I’m sure she can.”

He answers the phone quickly.  “Hi, June, kind of busy with my soulmate, so –”

“Henry’s your soulmate?  I knew it!” she cheers.

“Yes, he is and we’re very happy, now we’d like to go back to celebrating.”

June laughs.  “Well, have fun and happy birthday, little bit.”

“Thanks, Bug.”

He hangs up and looks back at his soulmate.  “Where were we?”

Henry touches his finger to his lips, “Right about here.”

Alex grins and leans forward, “Oh… yeah.”

When Alex wakes up with his soulmate spooned against him on his twenty-first birthday, all he can think is maybe soulmates aren’t so bad. 

… and he finally gets a happily ever after, too.

The Unhinged Tournament Propaganda. It was literally only written for the tournament, but it got feedback on both AO3 and here on tumblr.

6. Favorite title you used

pack up the moon - pour away the oceans

It's a reference to W.H. Auden's Funeral Blues and perfectly fits the fic and Feihua's vibes in general. I've loved the poem since high school and was very proud of myself for remembering it when it came time to name the fic.

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?

I'm using I'll Be Good by Jaymes Young for most of the Prince/Bodyguard AU.

8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year?

Feihua/Dihua was the only pairing I wrote for.

Technically it's the Unhinged Tournament Propaganda. Total it's 1087 words (making it actually the second shortest) but each "chapter" is only a couple hundred words each.

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

Mainly the Prince/Bodyguard AU. There's still a lot of work to be done, since only 2 of (initially planned) 16 parts have actually been finished.

Post-Canon, Not Beta Read, POV Di Feisheng are the top three.

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

Di Feisheng. I just love him so much.

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

Fang Duobing. Mostly when it's his POV, because there's how I'd like him to act/react, and there's how the character would actually act/react. And often those two things are in direct opposition.

19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?

Zhan Yunfei/Li Lianhua. I was going to write their part earlier this year but got distracted by other WIPs first.

Which Moment, which was actually written and posted last year, but most of the works this year have been short and angsty, and it was the fic that helped me regain confidence to keep writing. Because if I could write a 21k word fic out of nowhere, then maybe I could write those other ideas I had.

There's a few but I'll go with this one from the 5+1 Yingzhu Armor fic.

Hulijing snuffles at the silk looking for her promised snacks, and whines when she doesn’t find them. He reaches out to pat her head as a reassurance, then narrows his eyes at her. “Did you know about this?” he asks, pointing at the pup with an accusatory finger. “Did you know he had this?” Hulijing tilts her head first to one side then the other and licks at the end of his finger. Di Feisheng huffs a laugh and then sighs, “No, I suppose not."

I just like the little bit of playfulness from Di Feisheng, since it's not something we get to see much from him (if at all) in canon,

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

That I was actually able to stay engaged and excited for most of the year. Usually I'll write a couple things, get distracted by other things, and then disappear for a couple years. But I didn't just give up and I'm hoping I can continue that in the new year.

Thinking about the dumb little kinda AU where Su's kids (including Kuvira) meet prince Wu as kids. And they all go on a big adventure in Ba Sing Se. They're all sheltered little rich kids, except for Kuvira, who immediately becomes the leader of the pack. Little Wu getting his first friends and first taste of freedom! They raid a Zoo and free all the Badgermoles!

Meanwhile Su is being a distraught mother and the court are losing their minds over losing the crown prince.

At some point Opal just bites the Earth Queen. She latches onto her hand with her teeth and won't let go. This is more feral Opal propaganda.

hello....... xiyao hunger games au........ pls say more

are they both tributes

hello anon u have opened a can of worms i have been thinking abt this au for over a year. my xiyao hunger games au.... theyre technically both tributes, just not in the same games..?

they meet each other as victors, a few days after meng yao wins his games, as he waits for his victor interview with ceaser flickerman.

lan xichen had won the games previous to this, dominating both the in-game and out-of-game play, his early life career training from belonging to district 1 combined with his 'prince charming' aura makes him a favourite for the capitoltes, who clamour to sponsor him, and a BEAST in the games.

meng yao, who was not of a fan of the games as so much he saw it as an egregious feat of capitol power, and a fascinating lesson in propaganda, watched this with both awe and an analytical eye.

he would not volunteer for the games (he's neither stupid nor suicidal), but if the opportunity came to either rise up from the poor life he's living in district 11, or give his mother one less mouth to feed, he'd grab the chance with both hands.

they won in contrasting ways, due to their very different backgrounds and personalities

lan xichen won with honour (as much as children killing other children can be considered honourable). mainting his single alliance with his district mate until the end, winning with a final sword duel that had the capitolites swooning in their seats. he's the image of perfection, a low kill count leaves little blood to mar his image.

meng yao won with deception, almost all his kills coming from either literal or figurative backstabbing. as one of the underdogs, and malnourished 15 years old from district 11, he wouldnt win in a straight fight with most tributes, let alone the careers. despite this, he left a bloody trail behind him to become victor, with 2 direct and 4 infirect kills under his belt. (he's still a capitol darling, as most victors are, but in a more - we like you right now but we can and will turn on you if you make a slight mistake)

meng yao did not expect to win once reaped and is struggling to deal with being alive when he thought he'd be dead, so is having a minor breakdown waiting to be interviewed.

lan xichen decides to visit the new victor and give them some advice on how to deal with the victory tour and [gestures vageuly to capitol] that, and kindly interrupts the start of said breakdown. this somehow leads into mimicking the iconic hand-caressing-intense-eye-contact-meeting scene from cql (i love the scenet too much not to include it).

ANYWAYS this is getting too long now, but just know that meng yao had a MASSIVE crush on lan xichen as he watched him win his games, and if it weren't for his mini breakdown whilst waiting to be interviewed he would totally be internally fangirling, and that lan xichen is completealy enamoured with meng yao after meeting him once.

they become a favourite capitol pairing (not couple just yet), constrasting heights and images creating a perfect pair (this is self indulgeant).
