Killer’s Song

Appearance:

A worn suede hardcover book torn down the spine. The cover features the book's title and an image of bagpipes with four different knives plunged into the bag.

Though cleaned the book remains heavily stained with blood from its acquisition (see document #9931907). Several pages of the text block are torn or missing entirely, with bloody fingerprints scattered throughout, most prominently on the two centre pages.

Content:

Killer’s Song is empty. 100 blank pages, with no text or images. Efforts to uncover hidden text or symbols have so far been unsuccessful. There is no evidence to suggest the book ever held content, despite its worn appearance.

It has been theorised that the destruction and dispersal of its power resulted in any existing content simply disappearing leaving its pages blank.

Abnormality:

The book appears to have been rendered inert due to the damage it sustained before acquisition. Exposure to architecture and opposing forces has not triggered any activity.

According to witness statement #9931907 the book once caused individuals to rampage attacking anyone nearby in frenzied violence, mutilating one another without regard for injury or death. It is currently unknown if this effect can be reversed.

Whether the book needed to be read, touched, or destroyed to activate its power remains unclear. It is theorized that the book’s destruction amplified its influence, infecting over 16 individuals instead of a single person.

During the event all radios within the area of effect played bagpipe music. It is theorised that victims also heard this song, which may have been the mechanism for altering their minds. The witness statement describes hearing the music faintly at the site of the book’s destruction.

Acquisition:

The book was retrieved from the evidence locker of the North Highland Police following the Lanncraig incident, in which an entire crofting community tore each other apart. It was found torn in two, still clutched in the mutilated hands of the mobile lending library's owner.

Classification:

Music and violence makes this an obvious manifestation of butchery. It will be stored in the respective wing but fortunately it appears to have lost all power. Nevertheless, it should be monitored closely in case it is merely dormant waiting to cause another sudden massacre.

A proposal to repair the book to see whether its power could return has been submitted and swiftly denied. Why risk another Lanncraig within the Library?

👀 don’t mind me, just saving this as a fic idea ~

relistening to TMA, and I think I need a prequel. I need a prequel about jurgen leitner discovering these books, finding out what they are and building a safe haven. being so determined to make this library to keep these things safe and then for all hell to completely break loose and for him to get chased the rest of his life, like I need that prequel. i need to have all of these different assistants we come to know and love and to see him throw them aside and sacrifice them to these entities, i need to genuinely see how oblivious and arrogant this man was.

The Queen & The Egg Sac

Appearance:

A soft saddle stitched pamphlet bound in worn leather. The cover is green and speckled with light and dark stains from an unknown source. It is 54 pages in length with every page contaminates by the same fluid staining the covers. The book appears to have been hand written.

Content:

The book is announced as “The methodology of attaining pure nigredo under the Great Putrefaction”. The initial section has the author explaining how they have found the magnum opus through nigredo alone by constructing something called the resurrection mound.

Following this they leave some notes about the physical appearance of the mound and its inhabitants. Apparently a Queen nurtures an egg sac that holds great power inside while workers assimilate flesh in to the mound and puppeteer the dead as guards.

Most of the book is alchemical equations of the methodology for constructing the mound, creating the Queen and safely extracting the Egg Sac. Most of these alchemical equations are nonsensical with unclear instructions speaking more conceptually than scientifically.

The final few pages suggest that the author gave themselves to the mound entirely.

Abnormality:

Two separate powers have been recorded from this book. The first can occur in any reader, shortly after exposure the victim will feel as though they are being stung by insects over the following few days with this escalating to actual physical injuries if exposure continues. This has yet to be found to be fatal.

The second power has only been confirmed based off the investigation associated with its acquisition. Certain people who resonate with the book are capable of following the book’s methodology to create the resurrection mound. All attempts to perform this during testing has failed.

Acquisition:

The Queen & The Egg Sac was found in the back offices of ███████ ████ pest control in ████. The search was performed as a part of an ongoing investigation where it was discovered the pest control building was being used as a make shift laboratory for experimentation on vermin and insects.

The investigation started after child protective services were called to ███████ where they found a large pile of rotten meat and bones in the back garden surrounded by a vast number of dead hornets. When questioned the Mother blamed the exterminators for it.

Neither of the exterminators have been able to be located and have been listed as missing person cases.

Classification:

“The Great Putrefaction” just another name for the crawling rot to add to the list. Another soul who stumbled on something they could not understand and tried to make it conform to their pre-existing beliefs.

It will be stored in the appropriate wing. Testing will not be performed for this book as it describes in great detail what the mound is and it does not sound beneficial in the slightest.
