Being a HEMA fencer, I’ve wanted a story semi-based on actual swordsmanship and actual fencing techniques.. but fantasy.

It’s a story like… Spiderverse meets Steven Universe meets Owl House meets She-Ra.

It’s called

The Knight’s Handbook

It’s modern Earth but there are supernatural people who protect it like guardian angels called Knights: Humans who’ve died via sacrificing themselves for someone else, and have been revived (not by choice). They protect humans from things as small as tripping over to protecting them from demons, dragons and other dangerous entities.

A Knight can pull their weapon from a magical, glowing scar called their Mortal Wound, the injury they acquired and a sign of the end of their mortality, like how SU Gems can pull their weapons from their gems. A Knight’s weapon can be anything including guns and crossbows, but these shoot magic/energy bullets or arrows.

Knights have their own realm to go to just for each other, (Gallantia) but can live on Earth hiding as normal humans if they wish (so long as they hide the magic scar!)

They function a bit like bees in that there is a Queen, chosen instantly when someone dies by sacrifice according to ‘qualifications of their soul’ (So not completely random like other Knights). Of course, this only happens when the former Queen is killed. Never have there been two Queen Knights at once, so written history goes. Like bees, that would create a huge issue!

Here is the main character and the main antagonist. For the first time apparently ever, there are Two Queen Knights. A mistake of nature, perhaps?

Sidra Saiffudeen

Our main enby is Sidra, she/they. A normal teen turned Queen Knight chosen right after her death, impaled through the chest (where you can see her Mortal Wound symbol) by saving her father. Her design is based on a bee! Not all Knights’ designs are, but I thought I’d lean into Queen Bee stuff.

She’s the ‘Acknowledged’ Queen. Most Knights, ones in support of the past Queen who just died (it’s a mournful period), back Sidra, but think she’s a bit immature. Sidra adores her new people though and vows to be a good Queen. Knight Queens don’t just sit back like Earth Royalty, they’re the most powerful and therefore in battle a lot. The past Queens tended to be adults (The Captain of the Royal Guard was in love with the past Queen (sapphics >:) ) and so having Sidra around is painful but they do their best to teach her.

Then there’s Juliana Fontana, always called Jules. She… is also a Queen Knight. You can tell this because a Queen’s mortal wound symbol is always the same as the Knight Symbol, a sword. Some Knights went traitor to back Jules rather than Sidra. Jules is a very very tired and sneaky girl, but more academically intelligent than Sidra. She’d be a very different Queen, and that’s why the Knights that took her side did so! She hasn’t figured out how to access her weapon or knight form.

The twist? They haven’t seen each other for a long long time… but Sidra and Jules know each other.

Lastly, The Title’s “The Knight’s Handbook”… what are Knight Handbooks?

Well, for Knights, along with a weapon you can pull from your Mortal Wound, you also have your Handbook! Every Knight has a Handbook with their symbol on it. Like I said, Queen Knights don’t get their own unique personalised symbol, rather they get the default symbol representing all Knights as a species (unfortunate!).

Every Handbook is personalised except for the first couple pages and chapters. The first few pages *always* contain The Rules of Knighthood. One of which is that there Cannot Be Two Queens. But… have these Handbooks with their strict rules on who your friends and enemies are and what you can or cannot do always been a part of the Knights? Or did someone *write* these books for their own purposes? Control?

Handbooks also contain info on how to fight/fence, how to defeat certain entities, anatomy, etc (I’ll figure out more). But, Handbooks also serve as phones! You write something in your handbook for someone else and your writings will appear in *their* handbook! Not sure, but I imagine handbooks can also be used as little sketch hologram projectors (you sketch a map for example or a plan and project it into the air using your book.)

Sidra and Jules may have this giant plot going on around them because they happen to be Queens, but that doesn’t mean they’re not teenagers who want to have fun. A lot of Knights are kids and teenagers and still have their senses of fun, much to the dismay of the serious adult Knights. But they’re all immortal so they’ve got plenty of time to grow up before they hit an age to stop. Being a Knight is tough and scary cause you *could* die at any time in a fight, so adult Knights tend to protect the teens from going out before they’ve trained properly. Queens are not afforded such a luxury and besides, a lot of teen Knights are totally reckless regardless of what the adults say!

So yeah!

That’s an intro to The Knight’s Handbook. I’d love for people to join in like they did with GunnTech and make their own Knights for this, if you feel inspired. It’s kinda like a DTIYS but instead of Draw This In Your Style, it’s… Draw Your Sona for this concept? Working title… /j If you wanna do something, I suppose tag it with “The Knight’s Handbook” with the apostrophe and whatnot, but I do not expect anything, you guys already do so so much 🧡.

She’s an older knight who lost her head during her death!! She doesn’t like leaving the knight realm often since she can’t replace her head in anyway.

How’d she die? Well she got caught in a giant fire trying to help people escape, she was the last person stuck in there, while she tried to exit she tripped and rubble fell onto her, destroying her head, she burned in the fire and died 😓😓🔥🔥

Her head is now fire 😝😝😛😛!!!

I made some ocs for @elmushterri 's The Knight's Handbook story. I'm low-key obsessed.

TW for Guns, Blood, Tobacco, Violence, and Strangulation

First off, Credence Gallo He/him. Born in 1878, Credence moved to New York at a young age and quickly became involved in mob life, especially after the "no booze" act was passed. He began helping his "family" with bootlegging. His real family never knew until his sister found out. Unfortunately, when she discovered his secret his boss was present! Both the boss and sister pulled guns on each other, forcing him to choose a side. He chose his boss, and was killed saving them from a deadly bullet from his sister. He hates who he was in life, and for a long time he didn't feel deserving of his role as a Knight. His weapon is a gun, and for a long while it takes the same form as the one that shot him.

Eunice Simon, they/them. They were born in 1968 and died at 15. They were an 80s kid! During the time their story takes place, I imagine that they only recently became a knight, and Credence is forced to take them under their wing. Their weapon is a comically large sword made of crystal, which is used more like a club. They died protecting a kid from some bullies. In the drawing they're getting choked to death, but I think in reality the killing blow would be an unfortunately placed kick to the neck. It took a long time for Eunice to accept that their death was an accident.

Big parent/child vibes from these two. Once Credence really accepts his role as a Knight, his gun changes form.

Eunice stops aging in their late 30s.

In the actual Knight's Handbook story, I imagine that they'd both side with Sidra. They both appreciate her spunk and energy and think that she'll make a great queen.

Finally, we have Tierney Shepard, or Tyr for short, He/They/It. He's based on the Norse God of War and is VERY old. This guy is from the Middle ages. He died at 36, defending his flock from a freakishly large wolf and losing his hand in the process. His weapon is a large scythe that resembles a Shepard's staff. He can form a magical hand to use the scythe. The hand can only touch the scythe, it's useless for anything else. Other than regular Knight powers, they also have the ability to talk to animals most notably sheep, which are easiest for him to understand. Because of how freaking old he is, he has an awakened form, which is on the right. He doesn't use it often as it's very draining to use. It also has the epithet: The Shepard Knight (very creative, I know). Tyr will probably side with Jules or remain neutral. He thinks that Sidra is too headstrong, and the Jules is too bitter. He's not a fan of dogs.

My oc

(First, let's say that I can't draw. This was made by first using my laptop as a copying board to draw a body, than, color it in MS Paint, and add the features. But let's get to the fun stuff, which I have quite the hand for, the story! I wrote this for @elmushterri in private, but I wanted to share it with y'all.)

Name: Ivan Berilov

Age: Early 20s

Height: 175 centimeters

Appearance:

Knight form: (seen on the drawing) He is a slender humanoid sea creature with light blue straight hair which is glowing lightly, blueish gray scaly skin, blue eyeballs with white irises, two holes for his nose (forgot to add it) ears like fins that are the same color as the skin, gills on the neck, and neck ends in a neck-piece which translates into a whole suit of medieval knight-like armor with Spartan elements, and only a fish-like, scaly tail of the same color as the skin is out of the armor (a bit chunkier than on the pic).

Advanced Knight Form (or as Ivan calls it, the Apex Predator): His hair glows blightly along the lines on his armor, fangs grow instead of his human teeth, claws come out of his armored hands, his tail gets a stinger on the end which can be used to bash or sting enemies.

Human form: He has dark brown, creoleish white skin color, is around the same height and figure as his knight form, has a weak moustache that teens have. He wears brand-new sailor clothes in human form.

Backstory:

Early life: He was born to two rich spice traders, and he was rolling in dough since the craddle (his parents literally filled his craddle with paper money). They were the avarage 8-hour work parents with the added benefit of a whole estate and cash. That meant he had a normal upbringing, and went to a public primary school. In 8th grade, on his last class field trip, the school put his class on a boat which he knew was a cockleboat. He insisted on asking his parents to lend one of the boats from the trade flottila, but the school said no. And well, the boat sank, but the lifeboat only held 20 people, and there was 21. He was put into the boat, with the captain willing to sink with the ship, but he jumped out, and shoved the captain into the boat as it was lowering (lore tidbit: the captain was the father of one of his classmates). His last words were: Warn the principal that my parents are gonna sue the sh*t out of the school!

Life as a Knight: When he was reincarnated moments later, he was dumbfounded. And it seems that the gods gave him a reminder of his death, because he became the fish-human he is now. He decided to settle into the sea he drowned in and where his parents' estate are. (The sea is about the size of Tokyo Bay, and it is more of a bay.) He quickly made friends with the fishes and the whales who live there, and was declared the protector and ruler of his home sea. And that meant protection from fishermen. He attacked the big companies, stole their loot, and scared away those who did it for survival, but secretly giving them the loot he stole. With these acts, his former home country banned fishing or harming the sea in any way, not to anger the "sea monster". This caused a rift between him and upper circles, and when he was called to Gallantia to answer for his crimes, he dug his claws into the cover of his handbook, and made two claw marks on it (this became his symbol). He rules the sea ever since, mostly uninterrupted.

Habits: He is mostly a vegan because of his pact with the sea creatures (and it's not appetizing when your dinner begs for mercy), but sometimes, he still eats meat. In the past, he used to flood entire cities for some cuts of beef or a piece of salami, but only like an inch to basically force them to evacuate. Now, he found another way to fulfill his cravings, thanks to another one of his hobbies. He, being a history nerd (more about that later), started collecting ancient treasures and put them on shore in a specific valley. This was soon discovered by archeologists, and for their gratidute, they left some gifts for him, including some meat. His last hobby is writing. Like some form of Knight Wattpad, he writes his stories to all who like it, and he garnered quite a fanbase, including the former Queen, which made along with his loyalty to his cause quite a beloved figure except in higher circles (they still hate him for killing humans who didn't run).

Personality: He can be defined as a loner, living in his sea, and only coming to shore or Gallantia for fan meetups or world-ending dangers. But with him missing his family for the latter half of teenhood, he is still unstable, reckless and can be quite agressive when angered (that being hurting his loved ones or himself). But he is brave (he didn't even fear death), and when warmed up to someone, he is loyal and kind. But thanks to his duty, he is slowly shedding his unstable nature, and becoming wise and strategical.

Likes and hates: He loves history, fighting, meat, duty, loneliness (but sometimes, he enjoys the fan who visits him), writing, his moustache (it looks out of place on him), and his family (lore tidbit 2: sometimes, he specially leaves gifts on the seaside beach of the family estate on special days of the family, like his or one of their birthdays). He hates his former school (lore tidbit 3: he flooded it after he got revived and the court case where their parents demolished the defence of the school), men who exploit the sea, his higher-ups (except the old queen), and sea demons.

Abilities: He has no Mortal Wound, but as a replacemnent, his gills function like it. His weapon is a trident, and he can also pull a shield with his symbol, an old helmet he excavated from a ship (it's a Spartan helmet without the colorful top). He, along with his transformation, can control the seas, create air bubbles, and talk to all sea creatures.

Fighting style: He starts out mostly defensive, with quick flurries for the win. But when he gets angered, his attacks become really agressive, but he still holds back, and tries to be merciful even when killing sea demons. But when they won't go down, he transforms into the Apex Predator, and goes nuts, while laughing and berating them, reveling in the carnage (lore tidbit 4: he was questioned for using it on humans, but was pardoned by the queen as his regret was genuine, and this caused the ongoing shift in him, but when in need, he still uses the Apex Predator).

Speech: He is really vulgar when just chatting with someone, using it to emphasize his point, with him even using swear words from his original language (that was Hungarian), much to the annoyance of others. But he can speak quite selectively, evident in his writings. He is also self-depricating and sarcastic, but he only uses it to not harm people, only for lightening the mood (except when hurt, he can be quite sharp). He also uses jokes, mostly sea puns.

Stance on the main plot (Sidra vs Jules): He is at the time, saddened by the former queen's death, as she was one of his most loyal readers (lore tidbit 5: he rushed to finish a story which the queen loved when he heard she is on her last legs), but he couldn't care less about the new conundrum. As long as he is not evicted out of the sea, he is willing to help both of them, and can be still called upon if a threat arises.

This is Mekhi (Prounounced “Mech-Eye”)

His Mortal Wound is located in his eye and died protecting a child in a school shooting as a teacher. He was friends with the late Knight Queen and was a close advisor. Mourning is hard, and the political unrest resulting from two Knight Queens takes a toll, but he is supportive of both of them and keeps his cautiously optimistic outlook for the future

Uhh, he’s very bird themed, no real reason, but ravens (what I based most of the bird accents off of) are known to be pretty intelligent and I always thought they looked very regal and fit for someone like Mekhi who is very wise and respected by all :)

I feel like I made him a bit too tied into the plot so I feel like I’m overstepping, so I don’t know if you’ll be okay with that 😭

Antoine Ojigkwanong Guillaume Dubois

His father was a French Canadian bûcheron (lumberjack) and his mother was Algonquin native.

He was raised by his father since unfortunately his mother died of puerperal fever, which was super common at the time of his birth (1809)

As such he became a part of the logging community pretty early on and faced his unfortunate end saving another lumberjack from a tree falling the wrong way. His mortal wound is on his back.

His death being in 1834 makes him technically the oldest of my ocs. But he stayed physically 25 so he’s also in the middle. He rarely leaves Gallantia because the world is very different from the one he knew and even right away after his death he only went back to visit his dad as he felt more in place in Gallantia then back home.

This is Rain Riverion, she is kinda based off of northern cardinals cus i thought her looking like a bird would be cool. She died from getting stabbed in the chest protecting her brother (dramatic much?) but what she doesn’t know is here brother also died protecting someone and is also a knight (this family needs to stop protecting people). Rain is one of the older knights nobody seems to know when she died because i haven’t decided yet. Her main weapon is a giant sword (probably a pain to pull out) and her super awesome magic power is “i don’t know yet stop asking me questions”

this here, is Asta's human form, disguise if you will. She wears sunglasses to hide her burnt eyes, and wears the biggest coat known to man because she always feels like someone is staring at her

Before you ask, yes the 'I'm on Fire' shirt is irony.

Fun fact! Asta's main power is Water pressure. She can increase temp and pressure on water.

Now, here's a little deep dive.

Asta, is on Jules side

Ik Elm said some knights would be on Jules side. So I imagine Asta is Jules right hand woman. The reason Asta is on Jules side is how logical Jules is, and how she uses it. But the main reason is that Jules reminds Asta of her older sister.

Asta's older sister was extremely smart, and ran away to pursue a education. The way Jules acts reminds Asta of her dear older sister. That's why Asta also wears braids (besides the fact that she's Noridc and from trying to study braids are very common in Nordic culture) is because Asta looks up to Jules

Asta, will literally do anything for Jules. She may be young, but she has extreme loyalty, and was forced to become smart and strategies. If Jules gets kidnapped? Expect Asta being the one in charge of the rescue party. If Jules is sad? Expect Asta to bring her comfort food. If Jules needs a plan? Asta will help plan it with her.

If Jules needs a Sacrfice? Asta will do it willingly

(I like to think Asta sew Jules a coronation dress and made a coronation look alike crown and hosted a small coronation in her honor. Atleast tried too until others ruined the dress and crown.)

So no art for this post as I'm a writer and not gotten back into art in a while and need to find time to improve my art skills.

So I did a team of 6 knights that would all occasionally come to earth to fight monsters from different backgrounds and due to their unique injuries they never stay long and have to find new and creative ways to stay on earth and experience it.

I hope that a few aren't breaking canon and that people dig them, took me a while to make these guys, really fun writing them and I'll be writing a short story based on them in a few hours on their daily life as knights.

Amara is an anthro hybrid transfem enby that lived in Nigeria till they sacrificed themselves for a dear friend that was in danger, they took the attack of some monster and had their body severed.Thanks to that they have multiple weapons, but a single hand book.Arms, neck, torso, tail and legs got severed in a devastating slashing attack that killed them almost instantly.Thanks to that though they got to leave their boring job of working in an office to fighting monsters, they had pondered on what it would be like to be one of those heroes.

Yuuki is an anthro man from Japan with a tendencies to get into trouble and had dealings with the mob/ criminal gang and usually watches over one of the bosses children. One faithful day they came under attack by a demon and having grown attached to the daughter he's watched over the past few months he managed to defend her at the cost of his life. Firing a hole in his abdomen he dead on the floor with the cries of the little girl.When he woke up he vowed to never again turn a blind eye to evil or wrong doings.

Ava Managed to save a stranger in need of her assistant from a monster attack and then meeting their end but got clocked in the dome by a stray bullet that hit her.

Dee saved someone before falling down a great height and having her head crushed from the impact and now have a scar along their head. Dee and Dell are twins.

Dell young demi boy that died a few months after their sister did saving a bunch of comrades from a monster attack and had their gut split and bled out.
